KEYLESS REMOTE SYSTEM ISSUE, APPARENTLY THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES AFTER 36,000 MILES. I'M UNSURE IF THE ERROR WILL CAUSE THE CAR TO JUST SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC OR MAKE IT JUST NOT START WHEN I TRY TO START IT. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED VIA A RECALL IF THE ISSUE IS THIS COMMON. THERE IS NO OPTION WITH THIS VEHICLE TO ACTUALLY USE A KEY TO START IT, IT IS ALL REMOTE.
THE ERROR MESSAGE 'KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM' APPEARS ON MY DASHBOARD. I KEPT REALLY THE HONDA SERVIXE TECHNICIAN AND THEY TOLD ME THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. BUT IT DOESN'T GO AWAY. IT KEEPS COMING BACK.
When going a consistent speed, the engine RPM flutters up and down which jerks the car back-and-forth while going around 40 mph. Independent mechanic said there’s something wrong with the VTEC system and one of the cylinders is not getting enough air
TL* THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER OWNS A 2016 HONDA PILOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER DAUGHTER'S PUSH START FEATURE FAILED TO OPERATE AS NEEDED WHEN DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN A SERVICE REPORT, IT WAS STATED THAT THE KEY IMMOBILIZER CODE WOULD APPEAR ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO LEJEUNE HONDA CARS (2221 N MARINE BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, NC 28546) WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH A DEFECTIVE TIRE PRESSURE MOTORING SYSTEM (TPMS) CONTROL UNIT, WHICH CAUSED HER FAILURE. SHE DECLINED TO HAVE THE PART REPAIRED AFTER GIVEN AN ESTIMATE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT CERTAIN IF HER DAUGHTER HAD REACHED OUT TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE KEYLESS START SYSTEM IS SHOWING A PROBLEM AND IS NEVER GONE, MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS ISSUE WITH HONDA VEHICLES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA PILOT. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HEATHER CANNON HONDA (3415 N 14TH ST., PONCA CITY, OK) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT AN EMISSIONS SYSTEM UPGRADE WAS NEEDED AND FIVE OF THE SIX FUEL INJECTORS WERE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
I'VE HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES INCLUDING FAULTY FUEL INJECTORS, FAULTY COLLISION MITIGATION SYSTEM, FAULTY HOMELINK TRANSMITTER, AUDIO BLUETOOTH THAT RESETS ON ITS OWN AND NOW THE LATEST ONE IS A KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM. IN ADDITION, I CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS ISSUE THAT WHEN I AM DRIVING THE CAR SENSE SOMETHING IN FRONT (WHERE THERE IS NOTHING) AND IT BREAKS, ALSO DRIVING IN HIGHWAY OR ABOVE 50 AND TRY TO PRESS BREAKS, THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES. MY CAR HAS A LITTLE OVER 36K MILES AND ALL THESE THINGS HAVE HAPPENED SINCE 34K MILES.
MOONROOF EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF WEAR AND THERE WERE NO CHIPS. THERE WAS A LOUD POP AND GLASS STARTED FALLING DOWN FROM THE MOONROOF. WE WERE LUCKY NOT TO HAVE GOTTEN HURT. MY CHILDREN HAD GLASS ALL OVER THEIR CAR SEATS.
AN ERROR STATING "KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM" APPEARED ON MY DASHBOARD. I ALSO NOTED THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING ROUGHLY WHEN IT SHIFTED INTO HIGHER GEARS. A SECOND ERROR MESSAGE AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, STATING "EMMISIONS SYSTEM PROBLEM" MY MECHANIC FOLLOWED THE HONDA TROUBLESHOOT RECOMMENDATION INSTRUCTION SHEET, AND REMOVED THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE, BUT TWO DAYS LATER THE ERRORS REAPPEARED. UPON TAKING THE CAR TO HONDA'S SERVICE CENTER, I WAS TOLD THE FUEL EMMISION PROBLEM CAN BE FIXED AND IS COVERED UNDER OUR WARRANTY, BUT THE KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM IS NOT COVERED (AS MY CAR HAS 54,000 MILES AND THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY/36,000 MILES DOES NOT APPLY). THE REPAIRS WILL NOW COST OVER $350 TO REPLACE THE COMPONENTS, PLUS LABOR. THERE ARE MANY POSTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM... SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE.
"KEYLESS STARTER SYSTEM PROBLEM" LIGHT COMES AND GOES. MILEAGE 50K - HAVE CHANGED KEY FOB BATTERY, ISSUE STILL RANDOMLY DISPLAYS - SEEMS TO BE MORE OFTEN NOW. FIND THAT IF I TRY TO NOT RUSH THE TURN OFF PROCESS IT WILL SOMETIMES HELP - IE PUT CAR IN PARK - WAIT A FEW SECONDS, THEN SHUT OFF VEHICLE - DOESN'T ALWAYS PREVENT MESSAGE - QUITE UNNERVING WONDERING WHEN I WONT BE ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE - THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR LAST 10K MILES
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving approximately 15-60 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed but hesitated to respond, and the vehicle started jerking. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to continue to drive the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure had recurred while driving. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
INTERMITTENT 'KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM'. IT'S VERY CONCERNING AND WHENEVER I BRING MY CAR TO THE SHOP THEY SEEM TO HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUES BEFORE. CAR WORKS, BUT IT IS SCARY TO WONDER IF MY CAR WILL SUDDENLY TURN OFF OR NOT TURN ON. PLEASE HAVE THIS INVESTIGATED.
RECEIVED "KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM" ON THE DASH AT 61K MILES. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND HAD TO RUN ALL KINDS OF DIAGNOSTICS TO LOCATE ISSUE. TECH SAID THAT THEY HAD TO KEEP CHECKING HARNESSES AND OTHER CONTROLS BECAUSE OF ORIGINAL CODE. IT SEEMS TO BE TIED BACK TO THE CONTROL SWITCH WHICH MANY OTHER PILOTS OF THE SAME YEAR HAVE HAD. TALKED TO HONDA SUPPORT AND WAS TOLD TO JUST FOLLOW DEALERSHIP INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO REPAIR. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON THEME AND WHY HAS A RECALL NOT BEEN ISSUED?
HONDA PILOT EX-L JERKS AND ENGINE SLOWS ON ACCELERATION, ROUGH SHIFTING BETWEEN SPEEDS ALWAYS ON INCLINE AND SOMETIMES ON FREEWAY AND AROUND TOWN. OVERHEATS WHILE WAITING IN TRAFFIC, MAKES LOUD NOISE. MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM HAVE BEEN FOUND. THE HONDA SERVICE DEPT. CLAIMS NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROBLEM ON MY VEHICLE MODEL. IT IS GROWING WORSE AND HAPPENS ON THE FREEWAY ALSO. I'M CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY.
AFTER FUELING, NO TOPPING OFF, DRIPS OR LEAKS, VERY STRONG GAS ODOR IN INTERIOR. SO STRONG COULDN'T DRIVE. HAD TO LEAVE IT SIT WITH OPEN WINDOWS. STRONG FUEL SMELL CONTINUED THROUGHOUT DAY, CONTINUED MILDER SMELL, BUT VERY NOTICEABLE NEXT DAY. WENT TO DEALER, THEY FOUND NO PROBLEMS. KEEPING IT OVERNIGHT. AFTER RESEARCH HONDA KNOWS ABOUT PROBLEM BUT HAS NO CURRENT FIX OR OFFERS OF BUYBACK.
THE REAR LIFT GATE HAS BEEN MALFUNCTIONING PERIODICALLY SINCE WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IN 2016. IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED SEVERAL TIMES BUT KEEPS MALFUNCTIONING. THE ISSUE IS THAT THE LIFT GATE STARTS TO OPEN, BUT THEN CLOSES ITSELF FOR NO REASON AND DOES NOT STOP CLOSING EVEN IF A PERSON OR OBSTACLE IS UNDERNEATH. SOMETIMES THE LIFT GATE ALSO WILL NOT REOPEN. OUR ONGOING CONCERN IS THAT A CHILD OR OTHER PERSON WILL BE CRUSHED BENEATH THE MALFUNCTIONING LIFT GATE. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN ALL TYPES OF SCENARIOS - WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED FLAT, ON AN INCLINE, INSIDE, OUTSIDE, ETC. AND THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A CONSISTENT CAUSE. ALSO, OUR HONDA DEALER IS OFTEN UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM USING THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEM - THEY HAVE TOLD US NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE LIFT GATE UNTIL THEY HAVE WATCHED THIS HAPPEN.
THE KEYLESS START AND ENTRY LIGHT WILL NOT TURN OFF. ADDITIONALLY MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT AND HONDA IGNORING THE PROBLEM. EVEN MORE SEVERE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO YOU. THIS WILL LEAD TO THE CAR JUST STALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I HAVE 2 CHILDREN. PLEASE HAVE HONDA ADDRESS THIS ASAP.
FRAGMENTS FROM THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF FUEL INJECTORS ARE CLOGGING THE FUEL SYSTEM AND CAUSE FAILURE FOR A PROPERLY RUNNING ENGINE. ACCELERATING ESPECIALLY IS WORRISOME AS THE ENGINE IS MISFIRING. AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR COMPANY IS AWARE AND HAS A TSB FOR THIS. WE ARE NOT DRIVING IS AT THIS TIME BECAUSE HONDA DEALERSHIP SAYS IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.
II STARTED HAVING A "KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM" ERROR SHOWING UP ON THE DASH. AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME THE WALK AWAY LOCK SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING AS WELL AS THE LOCKING BUTTON ON THE TAILGATE. THE ERROR MESSAGE WOULD COME AND GO BUT NOW IT IS ON CONSISTENTLY. I HAVE TO PUSH THE START BUTTON 3-4 TIMES TO GET THE CAR TO START AND NOW I AM HAVING TROUBLE TURNING THE CAR OFF. THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY WHEN THESE PROBLEMS OCCUR, BUT THE ERROR MESSAGE STAYS ON ALL THE TIME NOW. I AM WORRIED I AM GOING TO BE SOMEWHERE AND NOT BE ABLE TO START THE CAR OR TURN THE CAR OFF.
I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION. THE IDLE START/STOP KICKED IN. WHEN I WENT TO REMOVE MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE TO THE GAS TO GO ACROSS THE BUSY INTERSECTION, MY PILOT COMPLETELY DIED. THIS LEFT ME STRANDED AT A STOP SIGN AT A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION FOR OVER 2 HOURS WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK. AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID IT WAS 'JUST A SOFTWARE UPDATE'. IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE BUT THEY ARE ONLY FIXING IT WHEN IT AFFECTS A VEHICLE. NO RECALL??!!!! I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO UPLOAD MY VIDEO THAT I TOOK WHEN THIS ALL HAPPENED SO YOU COULD SEE WHAT MY DASH LOOKED LIKE WHEN I KEPT TRYING TO START MY CAR BACK UP. THE WEEK PRIOR TO THIS, THE PHOTO SHOWS WHAT NOTICE POPPED UP ON MY DASH.
KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM ERROR MESSAGE IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. "WALK AWAY LOCK FEATURE" STOPPED WORKING. WHEN I GET OUT OF THE CAR, THE CAR BEEPS ONCE, BUT THE LOCKS NEVER "LOCK". I HAVE TRIED BOTH FOBS AND THE SAME THING. ALL I GET IS ONE BEEP, NO MATTER WHAT I DO. CAR WILL START AND RUN.
KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM COMES ON AND OFF THE DASH BOARD
THE CAR'S IDLE STOP IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE RADIO CONSISTENTLY DROPS OUT AND HEADLIGHTS FLICKER WHEN RELEASING THE BRAKE TO START THE CAR AFTER IDLE STOP WAS ENGAGED. MULTIPLE TIMES THE CAR HAS NOW FAILED TO START AND APPEARS TO STALL OUT, AND MAKES ME SHUTOFF THE WHOLE CAR AND RESTART IT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS SOME PEOPLE DO NOT REALIZE AND MIGHT REAR END ME. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY LOCAL DEALER, BEEN TOLD THEY CANNOT REPLICATE IT INITIALLY, TO THEM VALIDATING THE ISSUE AND WANTING ME TO BRING IT BACK. I DON'T HAVE CONFIDENCE IN THEM FIXING THE ISSUE AT THIS POINT AS THEY DO NOT HAVE FAMILIARITY WITH IT, YET I SEE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT ONLINE. I FEEL THIS PROBLEM IS MORE WIDESPREAD THAN HONDA IS COMMUNICATING AND THE CAR HAS A FAULT IN THE AUTO IDLE STOP DESIGN THAT THEY ARE NOT RESOLVING.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2016 EXL HONDA PILOT AWD, IT BEGAN DISPLAYING MULTIPLE CODES SUCH AS HILL START ASSIST, ROAD DEPARTURE, EMISSIONS SYSTEM, POWER STEERING, AND, TSA. I TOOK IT RIGHT AWAY TO A NEARBY AUTO ZONE AND THE CODE THEY GAVE ME WAS P0304 CYLINDER MISFIRE. WHEN I TOOK IT TO HENDRICK HONDA THE CODES WERE NO LONGER FLASHING. BUT THEY RAN THE DIAGNOSTIC AND PERFORMED REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON THE CAR AND I INFORMED THAT THEIR WAS A $1,500 REPAIR CHARGE FOR FUEL INJECTORS. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM I FOUND OUT THAT THEIR WAS SERVICE BULLETIN 18-025. THIS SERVICE STATES THAT THE PROBABLE CAUSE IS DEBRIS FROM THE HIGH PRESSURE PUMP OR THE FUEL INCEPTOR MACHINING PROCESS CAN CAUSE INTERVAL WEAR OR CLOGGING INSIDE THE INJECTOR WHICH REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL INJECTORS. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. A FAILING FUEL INJECTOR COULD LEAVE US STRANDED OR STALL OUT ON A HIGHWAY. IN ADDITION, IT LOWERS GAS MILEAGE, INCREASES EMISSIONS, AND CAN LEAD TO A HOST OF OTHER DANGEROUS FAILURES IN YOUR VEHICLE. IT IS MY HOPE THAT HONDA WILL BE REQUIRED TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THEIR FAULTY FUEL INJECTORS.
CAR BRAKES BY ITSELF, SHAKES THE STEERING WHEEL AND SHUTS OFF AND LOSES POWER RANGING IN SPEEDS FROM 20 -60MPH. ON DOUBLE LANE ROADS TO INTERSTATES IN THE RAIN AND SUNNY DRY DAYS.
AT STARTUP, THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT INDICATING "KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM" APPEARED AND WAS ONLY REMOVED, PERHAPS TEMPORARILY BY FOLLOWING A ROUTINE SET FORTH AT A COMMUNITY WEBSITE. WAS INFORMED THAT A REPAIR AT THE DEALER WOULD COST $300+.
KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM IS ON IN THE DASH WON'T START OR TURN OFF SOMETIMES
THE 2016 HONDA PILOT FEATURED REDESIGNED FUEL INJECTORS THAT ARE UNDER INTENSE PSI. AFTER APPROX. 3 YEARS, THEY ALL NEED TO BE REPLACED. MOST FUEL INJECTORS ARE DESIGNED TO LAST THE LIFE OF A CAR. MOREOVER, IT'S IS STATISTICALLY EXTREMEMLY IMPROBABLE THAT EVERY FUEL INJECTOR WOULD GO BAD AT THE SAME TIME. APPARENTLY, THE FUEL INJECTORS ARE PUTTING OFF TINY PIECES OF METAL THAT ARE BUILDING UP INSIDE AND RENDERING THEM USELESS. IF UNTREATED, THIS COULD CAUSE THE CAR TO BREAK DOWN AND BECOME A HAZARD IF DRIVING AT THAT TIME. HONDA EVEN RECOGNIZES THE DEFECT IN THAT THEY HAVE PUT OUT AN INTERNAL SERVICE MEMO DIRECTING THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENTS TO REPLACE ALL THE INJECTORS WHEN THEY SEE THIS ISSUE COME IN. THAT SAID, THEY HAVE NOT ISSUED A VOLUNTARY RECALL OR EXTENDED WARRANTY INSTEAD OPTING TO LET CUSTOMERS FEEL THE BURDEN OF REPLACING ALL OF THEIR INJECTORS AT A COST OF $1500 EVERY THREE YEARS. I recently saw an article that NHTSA is investigating Honda vehicles 2016-2019 regarding the idle stop/restart of the car and want to corroborate that this issue does exist. My husband and I bought a 2016 Honda Pilot Elite in late July of 2019. We believe we are the second owners of the vehicle. All was fine except for occasionally, the idle stop/restart feature would not work: the car would cut off at a red light, but when taking my foot off the brake and expecting a restart, you would see and hear all of the electrical turn off--radio, a/c, etc. and sometimes the car would not restart. I would have to wait 30 seconds or so, then restart the car as normal. The most harrowing experience with this happened on a six-lane highway where I was the last in line at a red light. The light turned green, all cars accelerated and left, but the idle stop did not restart, the car cut off completely, and it would not restart at all. I had to wait for a minute or two to re-try several times. This was a 55mph highway, I was in the middle lane completely stalled out with no other cars around me, and my children were in the car with me. I was afraid someone would come barreling along at the speed limit and hit us. We took the car in to our local Honda dealership on 11/21/19 and still have the paperwork, which reads "BMS no supplying proper voltage for auto stop function to operate properly", "Install new battery management sensor", "Battery test bad" and "replaced battery". We all figured it was the car's battery. A year later, we asked and they still couldn't disconnect that feature for us. I have made it a habit to hit the button to disable the idle stop whenever I drive the car. Just last week, my husband drove with the rest of us in the car, he did not disable the idle stop at a red light, and the car briefly cut off all electrical (but quickly turned back on) when he lifted his foot from the break. We still have the car. Please do inspect it. There are no warning signs.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED. DEALER INSPECTED AND DETERMINED FUEL INJECTOR DAMAGE. HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN STATES "DEBRIS FROM THE HIGH PRESSURE PUMP OR THE FUEL INJECTOR MACHINING PROCESS CAN CAUSE INTERNAL WEAR OR CLOGGING INSIDE THE INJECTOR". HONDA DOES NOT CONSIDER THIS TO BE MANUFACTURER DEFECT DESPITE FUEL INJECTORS NOT DESIGNED TO WEAR OUT AT 62K MILES.
THE KEY FOB HAS TROUBLE STARTING CAR. DISPLAY HAS MESSAGE' KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM ERROR'. CAR HAS LESS THAN 35K MILES.
We own a 2016 Honda Pilot Touring AWD. For many years we have experienced issues with the idle-stop system as the vehicle fails to restart after the engine is switched off. It appears that the battery lacks the power to restart the engine or there may be a deeper issue with the engine restart system itself. We have taken the vehicle to the dealership twice and they cannot detect any issues. We have changed the battery twice, at our own expense, and the issue seems to improve temporarily while the battery is new. This issue is concerning when the engine does not restart at a busy intersection or when turning into incoming lateral traffic. The engine just shuts off and we need to switch to park to restart.
WILL NOT START USING THE KEYLESS FOB. ALL TROUBLE LIGHTS TURN ON WHEN TRYING TO START. FOOT ON BRAKE AS NEEDED TO START. STILL WON'T START. THE AUTO LOCK FEATURE WON'T WORK. NEW BATTERIES IN THE KEY FOB DON'T HELP. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WHEN IT WAS LOWERED FROM THE TOW TRUCK IT STARTED RIGHT UP.
THE VEHICLE IS JERKING WHEN BEING PUT IN GEAR. RATHER IT IS IN DRIVE OR REVERSE.
MY CAR IS SHIFTING HARSHLY AND DANGEROUSLY WHILE ACCELERATING BETWEEN 20-30 MPH AND DECELERATING. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN THE 2016-2019 PILOTS AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER! 2016 HONDA PILOT (52,000 MILES)
KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM
OUR 2016 HONDA PILOT HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FOR FAULT CODE P0420. DEALER DIAGNOSIS WAS FAULTY FUEL INJECTORS IN CYLINDERS 2 AND 3. DEALER REPLACED ALL 6 FUEL INJECTORS FREE OF CHARGE. IT SEEMS PREPOSTEROUS THAT ANY OF THE 6 FUEL INJECTORS HAD FAILED WITH ONLY 41,632 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. HONDA IS CLEARLY AWARE OF THE ISSUE AS THEY RELEASED SERVICE BULLETIN 18-025. IN MY OPINION, THIS SHOULD BE A NATIONAL RECALL INSTEAD OF A SERVICE BULLETIN. AND HONDA SHOULD FOOT THE BILL FOR ANY OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, REGARDLESS OF YEARS IN SERVICE OR MILES
WHEN I AM AT A STOPLIGHT AND THE CAR GOES INTO IDLE STOP, IT DOES NOT RESTART AFTER I TAKE MY FOOT OFF OF THE BREAK. I HAVE TO PUT IT BACK IN PARK AND HOLD THE START BUTTON DOWN AS IT STRUGGLES TO TURN OVER. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE CARS BEHIND ME EXPECT ME TO BE MOVING AND I HAVE BEEN ALMOST HIT AS A RESULT. IT USED TO WORK FINE AND RESTART AS I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE IT. WE TRIED REPLACING THE BATTERY. IT DID IT THAT SAME DAY AFTER I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP.
RIGHT BEFORE IT'S TURNED ON AND WHILE DRIVING. I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE SAYING "KEYLESS START SYSTEM PROBLEM". THEN VEHICLE WILL SOMETIMES NOT TURN ON RANDOMLY. HAVE NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR BECAUSE I DID MUCH RESEARCH AND MANY PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN THEIR 2016 PILOT TO THE DEALER AND AFTER SPENDING MONEY, THE DEALER COULD NOT FIX IT.
WE HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH OUR PILOT SINCE NOVEMBER. I WENT TO START IT ONE DAY AND A LOT OF LIGHTS ON THE DASH TURNED ON. IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED BY HONDA THAT THE ISSUE IS FUEL INJECTORS, IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR PILOT, WE HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE TOLD US THIS. THE LIGHTS COME ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS FIRST STARTED AND STAY ON THROUGH ALL DRIVING. WE HAVE CHECKED THE CODES THAT POP UP AND IT SWITCHES THE MISFIRE CODE FROM ONE CYLINDER TO ANOTHER, AND ALSO SHOWS MULTIPLE MISFIRES.
WARNING LIGHT ON DASH. EMISSIONS SYSTEMS PROBLEM. HONDA SERVICE SAYS I NEED TO REPLACE FUEL INJECTORS FOR $1500. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL I THINK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA PILOT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BOB LANPHERE BEAVERTON HONDA (10760 SW CANYON RD, BEAVERTON, OR 97005) FOR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. TWO WEEKS LATER, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED SPONTANEOUSLY WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT LEAST TEN TIMES SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED INITIALLY. THE FAILURE HAD NOT OCCURRED PRIOR TO BEING SERVICED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
TWICE NOW MY 2016 HONDA PILOT ELITE WITH AUTO IDLING STOP FEATURE HAS STALLED AT INTERSECTION LIGHTS. WHILE STOPPED AT THE RED LIGHT THE ENGINE GOES OFF AND NORMALLY WHEN I LIFT MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE IT RESTARTS AND ACCELERATES WHEN I PUSH THE GAS PEDAL. HOWEVER, IN THESE INSTANCES WHEN I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND WENT TO ACCELERATE, THE ENGINE COMPLETELY STALLED. A COUPLE OF WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON, UNFORTUNATELY I DIDN'T READ WHICH ONES BECAUSE I WAS AT BUSY INTERSECTIONS. THE CAR WOULD NOT START EVEN AFTER PUTTING IT INTO PARK. IT TOOK ABOUT 2 MINUTES BEFORE THE ENGINE WOULD START. OTHER DRIVERS WERE TRYING TO GET AROUND ME, HONKING. THE 2ND TIME, I WAS GOING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AND JUST HAD TO WAIT UNTIL I COULD START IT, WATCHING IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR HOPING I WOULDN'T GET REAR-ENDED. I DRIVE 75+ MILES TO WORK ON A VERY BUSY AND SLOW MOVING CALIFORNIA FREEWAY WITH LOTS OF STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT OUR SAFETY IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN ON A BUSY FREEWAY WHERE DRIVERS DON'T REALIZE I AM DEAD IN THE WATER. I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA AND THEY ADVISED ME TO GET IT INTO A DEALER RIGHT AWAY. I GOT AN APPOINTMENT FOR THIS AM AT 0700 BUT AS OF NOW (11:30AM) HAVEN'T HEARD A WORD. THEY ARE CHARGING ME $125 JUST TO RUN DIAGNOSTICS DESPITE THE FACT I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE SERVICE PERSON HAD A DEFINITE "COULD CARE LESS ATTITUDE". AFTER READING ON THIS WEBSITE AND OTHERS, THIS IS HAPPENING A LOT AND HONDA DOESN'T SEEM TO HAVE AN ANSWER. THIS IS THE 2ND MAJOR ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. THE LAST ISSUE INVOLVED MY CAR BASICALLY SHUTTING DOWN ON THE FREEWAY AT 70MPH, GOING INTO A LOWER GEAR, EVERY POSSIBLE WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH LIT UP. HAD TO DRIVE ONE MILE ON THE SHOULDER TO GET IT OFF THE FREEWAY. THIS HAPPENED TWICE TO ME AND A "COMPUTER PATCH WAS DONE". IT SEEMS FIXED BUT NOW I AM NOT SURE AT ALL WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS CAR.
ON OCTOBER 24, 2019 AT APPROXIMATELY 10:00 AM CST. ENGINE COMPLETELY LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON INTERSTATE I-80. WAS IN THE LEFT LANE PASSING VEHICLE IN RIGHT LANE. ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS AHEAD OF MINE. TAPPED THE BRAKES TO SLOW A BIT AS VEHICLE IN FRONT WAS MERGING RIGHT AFTER PASSING. HIT THE GAS PEDAL AND ALL POWER TO THE ENGINE WAS LOST FOR ABOUT 1.5 - 2 SECONDS. TACHOMETER DROPPED TO 0. TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND THEN RE-ENGAGED. POWER TO ENGINE CAME BACK ON AND WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATIONS. AUTO ENGINE ON/OFF FEATURE WAS DISABLED. REGULAR CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON, HAD BEEN SET BUT WASN'T CURRENTLY ENGAGED. PARKING SENSORS WERE ON. LANE DEPARTURE WAS OFF. FORWARD COLLISION WARNING ON. NO OTHER ISSUES FOR THE REST OF THE 1300 MILE (ROUND) TRIP. WE HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 1 YEAR AND THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. FIRST TIME WAS NOT REPORTED OR DOCUMENTED. IF ENGINE/POWER HADN'T BEEN RESTORED, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THIS CANNOT BE NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS HONDA AND NHTSA.

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN BACK TO THE USED CAR LOT, BUT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUTONATION HONDA SPOKANE VALLEY (8201 EAST SPRAGUE AVE, SPOKANE VALLEY, WA 99212), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,000.

WE BOUGHT A 2016 HONDA PILOT EX AWD FROM A DEALER A MONTH AGO WITH 62K MILES ON IT. THREE DAYS AGO AN EMISSION SYSTEM PROBLEM AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER IMMEDIATELY AND THE CODES WERE P0430 AND P219B. THEY DIAGNOSED THAT ONE OF THE CYLINDERS WAS RUNNING RICH AND MISFIRING. ALL 6 FUEL INJECTORS AND A FLEX PIPE NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. THE ESTIMATED COST WAS $1700. I CALLED HONDA AMERICA THINKING THIS IS HAPPENING TOO EARLY TO A 3 YEAR OLD CAR WITH RELATIVELY FEW MILES ON IT. MY OTHER 2011 HONDA IS AT 145K AND NEVER NEEDED FUEL INJECTOR REPLACEMENT. I RESEARCHED IT ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AMONG 2016 PILOTS AND THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR IT 18-025. HONDA AMERICA SAID THERE IS NO RECALL ON IT AND THAT THE 3 YEAR 36K WARRANTY IS OVER. I AM AWARE OF THOSE, BUT A 3 YEAR OLD HONDA SHOULD NOT NEED THIS REPLACEMENT. THEY ARE RESEARCHING IF THEY SHOULD ASSIST WITH THE COST OF THE REPAIR, AND WILL GET BACK TO ME IN A FEW DAYS. HOWEVER, I WOULD URGE OTHERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS MAKE A COMPLAINT HERE AND PRESSURE FOR A RECALL. IF THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES AND THE CAR GOES TO LIMB MODE IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING, IT COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. IT WOULD ALSO NOT BE SAFE BEING STUCK NEXT TO A HIGHWAY WITH A CAR NOT WORKING. I AM GLAD IN MY CASE IT WAS NOTICED EARLY ON WHEN THE LIGHT CAME ON. THIS IS ALSO AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR EARLY ON IN A CAR AND SHOULD BE FULLY COVERED BY HONDA.
OUR 2016 HONDA PILOT JERKS AND HESITATES; APPEARING THAT IT DOES NOT KNOW WHICH GEAR TO SHIFT INTO WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND ON A CITY STREET. AS RECOMMENDED BY HONDA, THE TRANSMISSION SERVICE WAS DONE AT 30,000 MILE INTERVALS. HOWEVER THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE NEED A NEW POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE AT A COST OF $1400, WITH NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL SOLVE MY PROBLEM. OPTION #2 IS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AT A PRICE OF $5,000. I CALLED HONDA'S CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME UNLESS THEIR CERTIFIED MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP LET THEM KNOW THAT THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WAS A MECHANICAL DEFECT FROM THE MANUFACTURER. I WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER. THIS IS A HIGH RISK HAZARD THAT NEEDS CORRECTIONS AND CORRECTIVE ACTIONS, NOT RHETORIC. HONDA CORPORATION NEEDS TO RECOGNIZE NEAR MISSES CAN EASILY ESCALATE TO INCIDENTS, IF EFFECTIVE CONTROLS ARE NOT IMPLEMENTED. IN ADDITION TO THIS PERSISTENT TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, THE VEHICLE'S EMISSIONS WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AT VARIOUS TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT ALL OF THE FUEL INJECTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED. I ASKED ABOUT POSSIBLY CLEANING THEM. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE THAT HIS DIRECTIVE IS TO REPLACE THEM AND THAT HONDA DOES NOT HAVE A PROCEDURE IN PLACE FOR CLEANING FUEL INJECTORS. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE THAT A HONDA COMPUTER CODE, P0776 (PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID B PERFORMANCE OR STUCK OFF), WAS SHOWN. MY VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT NEW (ZERO MILES) AND NOW HAVE 101,000 MILES. IT HAS BEEN SERVED AT THE RECOMMENDED INTERVALS STATED IN HONDA'S SERVICE BOOKLET.
