I started getting a p0306 code on my truck on Thursday Jan 2, 2025. I took it to my mechanic and he said that it is a lower engine problem. On Saturday Jan 11,2025 there was a loud clunk from the engine and the vehicle lost power. My mechanic said that the connector rod broke. I contacted Honda but they said my vin is not in the recall and I would have to deal with the dealership. I know that they won't do anything so I am in the process of trying to install a used engine myself.
The Stop/Start button does not start or stop the engine when pushed. Honda has an "extended warranty" but will only honor the warranty "if a code has been set" regardless of the error messages displayed on the dash or the failure of the button to function While an extended warranty is of some value, in my opinion, the failure of the "Stop" button to stop the engine immediately when required (which happens frequently) creates a safety hazard and should result in a recall rather than simply an extended warranty, which has limitations of time and mileage in addition to the "circumstances" (i.e. the "trouble code must be present")
a smell of gas came into the car. fuel pump was the problem as per the dealer. could cause driver to pass out or fire
Connecting rod bearing on the #6 cylinder...after the injectors failed and the vehicle was barely drivable the Honda mechanic heard a knocking in the motor which was confirmed when I agreed to pay $700 for them to tear it down to look. Mechanic confirmed issue which is EXACTLY same issue as the recall for other 2017 Ridgelines. I am somewhat lucky as I had purchased an extended warranty but it will still cost me over $700 to get a used motor. The insurance company confirmed issue. There were no warning lights or anything that came on prior to the injectors failing. Could have been a major issue as mechanic said it was just a matter of time before motor completely blew up.
Have taken in a few times for engine knocking, Honda has down oil changes and reported noise is normal but is getting louder, purchased extended warranty from Honda dealer. Also had at Honda for oil and filter change a month ago, they also were supposed to have completed the tailgate harness but told me it had be previously complied with but never took it off the list of open recalls. Honda isn’t the company it used to be. After my purchase of my new Honda pilot and issues- it will be my last Honda period.
Engine Push Rod on recall lists
The Drive Train / Transmission has always had a "pause" then a "clunk" before shifting into or from Reverse gear, its worse now. The engine is starting to make noises and Im afraid its part of the engine recall of 2017 and it may fail and injury me while driving. I take excellent care of my truck and its only adult driven by me, hence the concern.
Engine started pinging on the Freeway. Pulled over immediately and had it towed by Auto Club to Morgan Auto Repair in Tracy, California. After diagnostics, they determined that the crankshaft was impaired by connecting rod bearing failure. Morgan Auto repair confirmed that the engine HAD THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF OIL AND DID NOT OVERHEAT. The engine is still fully intact(i,e no destruction to the engine block).
The torque converter is failing therefore causing the vehicle and pedal to pulsate rapidly. This is a recall for the exact truck we have, just not for our vin which I do not understand.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle severely hesitated and the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. The contact stated that the vehicle was almost rear-ended due to the failure. The vehicle was restarted, and the check engine warning light was no longer illuminated. The vehicle was driven without the failure recurring. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The contact stated that the failure occurred while exiting the granddaughter's school parking lot. In addition, the contact's granddaughter was an occupant in the vehicle at the time of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with moisture in the intake manifold. The contact was informed that an unknown foam substance needed to be installed between the engine and the intake manifold. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact referenced Technical Service Bulletin: 24-085; however, the repair was not covered under the Technical Service Bulletin. The contact was provided with a customer discount to assist with the cost of the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.
Engine failure on the highway. Vehicle came to a sudden halt almost causing an accident with a semitruck. Mechanic diagnosed as a failed rod bearing.
I had taken the truck to the mechanic no sooner than a month ago who changed the oil and did an inspection of the vehicle performing routine maintenance. Few weeks ago I had been driving when my engine started breaking down, the car would turn on drive for a moment then lose complete power to the wheels forcing myself and a friend to hitchhike home through the pitch dark. When we took the car into the shop they told us the engine was blown and that it’d need a completely new engine, although I had not been driving recklessly (maxing revs, speeding, harsh breaking ext) the reason I bring this up is I saw you were performing an investigation and I would like to include my vehicle into the scope as this problem was simply an instance of shotty build quality
7/13/2022 Recall work completed by dealer on Fuel Injection As of 9/26/2024 milage 73294. Now dealer states fuel injection is failing again!
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, there was an abnormal sound and shaking coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the timing belt needed to be replaced. The VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V751000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Intermittently, when I set the speed with cruise control, right after I do that, the truck will speed up and I have to tap the brakes to slow the truck down and then try to set it again. It usually works the second time I set it.
I was going home after picking my grandson up from school. Without notice 1heard a thud and my engine stopped. Iwas on the highway proir to an exit and luckily made it to a safe spot. If this happened 500 feet further down the highway., would have been in construction with no shoulder, Very dangerous! ! had my Ridgeline towed to my mechanic, the engine was frozen, |t showed the same symptoms as the crankshaft bearings recall but my vin was not included in the recall. 1 contacted Vandergrift honda who said they would diagnose the failure. had it towed to them, but once management got involved, they refused to spend any effort. 1 towed it back to my mechanic. With all the problems with this engine, parts and rebuild engines are hard to find. My mechanic replaced my engine and Honde claims no responsibility.
Every couple drive cycles these lights go amber. ACC, LKAS, LDWS. faults at startup... After parked, usual over night, it resets itself.
The backup camera on my Honda Ridgeline was repaired under a recall but is now defective again. I hope Honda will investigate the previous recall repairs and issue another fix in the future.
Driving home from work, my truck began to have a ticking sound from r/h front engine area. I drove the vehicle home. By the time I reached home the ticking sound became much louder. So, I shut off the vehicle and made an appointment with the dealership. I gingerly drove my truck to the dealership. By the time I arrived, I had a flashing engine light, and the sound had become much louder. The dealership looked at my truck and told me I needed an engine replacement.
Engine is seized.104k with regular and mostly dealer service, no MIL, fluids were in spec.
Sunroof randomly exploded I was traveling on a highway and we heard a very loud “pop”. We at first thought we were hit by someone else, or blew a tire. Neither occurred but then heard wind and noticed the sunroof not only shattered, but blew outward. There were glass shards all around. We have taken it to the dealership and they said while other vehicles have had problems, the Ridgeline is not under a recall. I took pictures as to document what occurred. There was absolutely no warning that it was about to happened, either through the vehicle warning system or noises prior to the loud pop. It simply came out of no where and scared us immensely until we recognized what had happened.
[XXX], driving under normal conditions, the 2017 Honda Ridgeline truck suddenly burst into flames from under the engine hood. No warning lights lit, only a loud and very sudden bang was heard. Only with the good fortune that other motorists flagged down my wife who was driving. She stopped immediately and they helped her escape from the truck, after she turned it off. The flames subsided but unaware of what was the issue, she called 911 emergency services, and seven firefighters arrived from opposite directions to ensure the truck would not explode or burn after a thorough investigation. The Orillia, Ontario OPP has this event recorded as they dispatched the 911 emergency call. The next day, we had the truck towed to a local garage and it was determined after some investigation that the engine has seized. It is now understood that a Honda Service Bulletin #23-097 includes the safety recall for our truck. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My 2017 honda Ridgeline started making loud noises coming from the engine. I took it to autozone and they used there diagnostic tool and all that came up was an issue with the oxygen getting into the fuel due to an issue with the fuel injector. On my way home it stopped running as I was making a turn. Mechanic confirmed engine failure. I did research and typed my vin into Kelly blue book recall section and 7 recalls came up, including the engine. But when I called Honda they said only 2 recalls were associated with my VIN.I take good care of my truck and there is not reason why my engine would fail unless there was an issue with manufacturing, or one of the other recalls caused the engine to fail. I purchased my truck for $30k a few years ago and I can’t afford for it to completely inoperable and am certain the engine seized because of a manufacturing issue.
On our way home the motor started ticking loudly and more and more loss of power. All the dash lights came on with the check engine light. We called the dealer and they said to bring it in. We babied it another mile and could no longer go more than 20 mph. We pulled over as soon as we could and the motor couldn’t go any more. Had it towed to the dealership and they said the whole fuel injection system failed and then discovered the rod bearings were destroyed. The car only had 84,000 miles on it and we have only owned it since November of 2023 we had the last service done at the dealership. I know the VIN isn’t right for the recall of the 2017 Ridgelines rod bearings but so many other people have had the same problem. I feel it should at least be looked into more. I do not have a repair invoice yet because it is still at the dealership waiting for a motor to be delivered to put in it.
Our 2017 Honda Ridgeline started making a rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. We took it to our local mechanic, who determined the engine rod bearing had failed and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to the local Honda dealer for repair in case it was covered under NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V751000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The dealer diagnosed that the engine rod bearing had failed and the engine needed to be replaced, but would not cover cost of the repair since the truck's VIN was not included in the recall even though the truck had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The truck had only 72,000 miles on it and had been regularly maintained. Per my mechanic, it should not have failed in this manner. In fact, he'd never seen a failure like this on a relatively low mile vehicle that had been maintained. I believe that the recall needs to be re-examined to see if the scope needs to be broadened to include more VINs. Based on my mechanics input and the nature of the current recall, I don't believe this failure was just an "bad luck" outlier.
While driving the automatic transmission would shift hard causing a lurching motion with the truck. This has happened multiple times and is a known to Honda. It did it again recently shifting hard or not shifting which is a problem in traffic where cars are moving faster speed I almost had someone hit me from behind because as the truck accelerates it suddenly stops and lurches forward like popping a clutch in a standard. Then the emission control light came on, check transmission light came on, bsi light came on and on the display where it indicates P D R L it the P symbol with an X through it. I was in heavy traffic and felt lucky not to be in an accident
Driver detected faint internal engine noise. There were no warning lamps or other messages displayed. Vehicle was taken to Nissan North, 8645 North High Street, Worthington, OH 43065, (614) 436-2768 ("Shop"). Shop diagnosed the internal engine noise as "connecting rod knock". Engine then seized up while in the possession of Shop. Engine was required to be replaced. See attached Nissan North invoice. Prior to the above described incident, vehicle owner had not experienced problems or symptoms with the involved engine. Owner has become aware that the engines in 2017 Honda Ridgelines are now the subject of an NHTSA safety investigation.
Rod bearings failed, leaving metal shards in the pistons which causes engine the to overheat and seize or catch fire. The engine noise was getting increasingly loud over a 3 day period so I took it into the dealership (Honda of Seattle) and they found rod bearings had worn apart and were floating around inside the engine. This requires a full engine replacement. There were no warning lamps.
There was an engine failure with a rod bearing in the engine. I believe the engine is still available at the shop that replaced it for review. I have already raised this issue with Honda and they were not interested in seeing the motor. The truck stalled out on the highway on the way to work during high traffic time. The truck was looked at by an independent auto repair shop. After the failure the engine did restart, and it was obvious by the noise that it had a bearing failure. There were no symptoms that the engine would fail before failure. at the time of the failure the engine light did come on. After the failure I learned that this exact year and model of truck had a recall for the exact issue that I had. I contacted Honda dealership before I had the repair completed and they said they would reach out to the Honda representative to see if there was anything they were willing to do. Nobody got back to me until several weeks later after I contacted Honda customer service on 3/21/24. Honda customer service sent me an email on 4/11/2024 after the engine was replaced. I was told since the engine was already replaced there was nothing they could do. I believe that Honda knows that this bearing recall affects many more vehicles including mine and are trying to save money by not releasing the true scope of the vehicles that may be affected. I will attach a copy of the bill for the engine replacement.
So I complained before and nothing has happened. I took my Ridgeline in for the recall on the backup camera and my camera still flickers or goes out. Happens randomly not all the time. I brought it up twice to the Honda dealership and they couldn’t help me since it was working fine when I brought it in. And my transmission since 20k miles still lags and jutters and makes clanking sounds. I have done multiple transmissions fluid changes like recommended but I don’t trust it. And only the first time they covered it and did a software update but that didn’t fix it then my warranty expired and they wanted to charge me for any repairs after. I have had this issue since I bought the Ridgeline. Not even 100k miles and I can’t trust it to drive more than an hour. This been happening for years and I complained before but nothing ever got done. My backup camera still goes in and out as of today and I have received multiple transmission is over heating warnings that then turn off. And now it’s starting to to not shift sometimes and high revs it.
Vehicle appears to have rod bearing failure and is available for inspection. Myself and family are at risk for being in a serious accident and/or stranded should catastrophic engine failure occur. Problem has been reproduced and confirmed by dealer (Howdy Honda Austin, TX). There is an existing technical service bulletin (TSB 24-002) for this issue and dealer believes my vehicle is affected, but my VIN does not show in affected VIN database. Vehicle has been inspected, but not affected part since that would require opening up the engine block. No warnings, just the engine knock which showed up a couple months ago. Besides taking vehicle to dealer for inspection, vehicle has been parked.
My vehicle has 113,795 miles and it is leaking Windshield Washer Fluid. I have not attempted a repair yet, but I’m assuming it’s leaking from the reservoir.
Over the past 15 months, our 2017 Honda Ridgeline has been at the Honda dealership service for over 90 days, or 20% of the elapsed time. A 2nd replacement of the torque converter (3rd unit) in March 2024 has not resolved the judder/vibration, which does not occur when the engine temperature is cold. The vibration is consistently recurring once the engine has reached nominal operating temperature, when the transmission is in 4th-5th gear around 1800 RPM, 30-50 MPH. Based on the dealership-attempted fixes, the dealer believes the issue is due to Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) and Active Control Mount (ACM) degradation. The dealer, in contact with Honda tech line, have no known fix to this systemic defect. The vehicle has been 100% serviced at Fisher Honda per the factory maintenance schedule. All recommended and required service, including Technical Service Bulletins and Recalls have been performed and are up-to-date. Reference earlier NHTSA ID 11554673 (Nov 2023).
component: transmission. Not available for inspection - has since been rebuilt. Rebuilder noted leaking 3rd gear clutch seal + failed valve body. safety risk: suddenly unable to accelerate or maintain speed until the vehicle is stopped and restarted. problem recreation: by independent service center inspection: by independent service center warnings: Shift flare on 2-3 upshift & hard engagement. Then dash warning light. Error code: P0776 AT Clutch pressure control solenoid valve B stuck off
Transmission shifts hard Torque converter problems have been reported by many owners online and Honda has apparently extended warranties for some but says my vin is not recalled I would like you to investigate and resolve this issue
The collision mitigation Braking System has activated my brakes resulting in a lock up 3 times and I've only owned the truck for 2 months. One of the times I was rear ended do to the trucking stopping suddenly. I now have to drive with the system turned off because of how dangerous it is to have on.
I was in line waiting for a pick up order when all of a sudden my ridgeline just stopped - engine kicked off - no warning lights came on ahead of this incident - there were no noises from the truck beforehand - no early indication that something like this was going to happen - thank G.. I was in line at MacDonald's and not on the highway. Engine just seized. I have taken my ridgeline to Honda - and they have said that they can't figure out why this happened - surprised for a ridgeline with 100,000 miles - it's been serviced at appropriate times. There were some recalls on it, but not one that would cause this issue - however , we did see if the NHTSA site that many 2017 ridgelines are being recalls due to manufacturing errors - we feel that honda should assume some responsibility.
The check engine light came on while driving on the highway. I then pulled over to check oil and coolant levels. The coolant was down but not empty, so I topped it up. I then restarted the truck and the engine was down on power and I had to limp it to the dealership. The dealership confirmed that the engine was blown, likely due to a connecting rod bearing failure. Now I am waiting for Honda to make a call on it because it is out of warranty.
My incident is related to Keyless system problem, it is drained out the battery and I can't be able start on my pickup. Because it is turn on and off the instrumental panel several times until the battery is drained out of power. This Keyless system, shouldn't affect the battery, because his function is only for turn on the vehicle. I never thought this kind of new turn on system buttons.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, there was a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the engine rod bearing had failed, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The contact was informed by the Service Center that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V751000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 44,000.
My 2017 Honda Ridgeline began making an odd noise, so I took it to my dealer. They diagnosed failed connecting rod bearings, which have sent metal shavings throughout the engine. The only repair would be an engine swap, which would cost almost the value of the vehicle. I cannot drive the vehicle as is due to the potential of catastrophic engine failure. Certain 2017 and 2019 Ridgelines are under recall for this same issue, but mine was manufactured 5 months later than the select few 2017 Ridgelines they have included. Honda will not cover my engine under recall or goodwill. I am left with a worthless vehicle that would have been very dangerous to continue driving. Please urge Honda to expand the recall. I'm sure I am not the only one in this unfortunate situation.
Well maintained 2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E, being operated within owners manual defined parameters, experienced a rapid loss of engine control. Vehicle was inoperable, and required a tow truck to be delivered to a Honda Certified Service Center. Honda Certified Service Center, has found the #6 connecting rod bearing to have failed.
The engine began making an metallic clicking noise that increased with engine RPM. I made an appointment with the local Honda dealership service center as soon as possible. The Honda dealership inspected the engine valve springs and the connecting rod bearings. The connecting rod bearings had failed but I had brought the vehicle in to the service center quickly enough that the failed connecting rod bearings did not appear to damage the crankshaft. The options I was provided with were to either replace the engine or replace the connecting rod bearings and connecting rod bolts with no warranty on the work as they could not guarantee the crankshaft had not been damaged. I provided all receipts for engine oil changes, engine oil filter changes, and engine air filter changes to Honda USA. Despite having an active recall for this exact problem (connecting rod bearing failure) on other 2017 Honda Ridgeline's with the same 3.5L V6 Engine, and performing all maintenance as needed with proof provided to Honda USA they denied my claim for vehicle age and mileage. My VIN was not included on the recall. I opted to have the connecting rod bearing, and connecting rod bolts replaced at the Honda dealership and had to pay out of pocket with no reimbursement from Honda, and no warranty on the work performed.
Emission System Warning Light came on and vehicle running a little rough. Vehicle has ~92K miles on it. Light came on about 2 months ago but after two weeks, no longer appeared. Taking to dealer tomorrow for diagnosis. Reading literature issue with fuel rail system. Known problem with Honda 3.5L engines apparently.
My Honda Ridgeline 2017 it started to not accelerate and a lot of lights came on. Check engine light, power steering, cruise control, abs, etc. The truck only goes 20-23 mph and it wouldn't run. Thank God i wasn't in the high or i would have crashed. i went to my nearest autozone to see what was going on and they told me that the Camshaft position sensor is damage . and it do the fact that the camshaft is hitting the sensor. They took me that a lot of Honda's were having this problem. I should call the Honda Dealer. I then call them and told them was had happened, they responded that it would probably need a new engine or an rebuild. A
My 2017 Ridgeline had clicking noises in the dash and the interior lights were flickering, truck was in the garage at home. I was able to start the truck and move it outside. I was afraid it may be a short and start a fire. Upon turning off truck it started making the noises again and interior lights flickering. I took it to Honda the next day and after two days they claimed they couldn't figure it out but charged me to disconnect my after market amp and labor for diagnostic. Two days later the issue persisted. I called Honda again and brought it in, this time there was a code to read. The code was "keyless start system problem" so they ordered the module to fix it but explained that it was on backorder and there was no ETA on when I'd get the part. A few weeks later I was stranded at work because my truck had been trying to go into accessory mode all day with the horn blowing. This problem is very intermittent but if left it will drain the battery. It seems to be every 2-3 days that the problem happens.
I was driving and without any warning or indication that anything was wrong, I heard a loud clunk noise and immediately lost power to the wheels, but the engine continued running. I was barely able to get the vehicle to the shoulder before it came to a complete stop without me applying the brakes. A Police Officer came to assist and tried to push it, but even after shifting to neutral, the car would not move. The tow company had to drag it onto the flatbed because the front passenger wheel would not turn. The Honda Service Center indicated that the axle separated from the transmission. They are in the process of making repairs. While waiting for the tow truck, my car had to sit in a busy highway on ramp turn lane, nearly getting hit several times despite my hazard lights. Had this happened at a higher speed, busier road, or the highway, it could have been extremely dangerous to me and the cars around me. There were no warnings, messages, or other symptoms prior to the incident.
Was driving on 2 lane highway when truck suddenly decelerated, started shuddering, so I pulled to side of road. Dash lights started cycling through warning lights, ultimately settled on saying it was an emission system problem. Car would not accelerate beyond 30-35 miles an hour after that and would even then suddenly lose power then regain it. But still could not get above 30 or 35 miles an hour. Luckily, no one was behind when this happened and I was able to pull to the side of the road. Normally this is a 55-60 mile an hour busy 2 lane highway. And I was less than a mile from home so was able to limp home. The next morning, tried to drive to the dealer, and had to return home because it would speed up to 45-50, but then would do the same thing again that I described above. Had to get the car towed to the dealer. I checked the OBD scanner and it said the problem was P0087, Fuel Rail Pressure Too Low. Dealer said it was that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. Vehicle has about 93,000 miles and is a 2017 model. Don't have the repair invoice yet, picking up the vehicle and paying the $1,700 dollar repair bill this afternoon. Can provide it later if you need/want it.
The contact owned a 2017 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that after parking on the side of the road and with the engine idling, a burning odor was present coming from the vehicle. Moments later smoke and flames were seen coming from the engine compartment which caused the hood to blow open. The fire department was immediately called to the scene and extinguished the flames. During the incident, the vehicle and personal property inside the vehicle were destroyed. A police report and fire report were taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed to an undisclosed location. The cause of the fire was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the incident. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 90,000.
At approximately 20mph, Forward collision warning appeared as car in front braked quickly but continued forward after the quick brake. After I braked to slow down, I began to accelerate as the vehicle in front continued forward. As soon as I hit the accelerator, the Automatic Emergency Braking kicked in and locked up the brakes - even though the car in front of me was 20-30+ feet away. Car behind me had to slam on their brakes as it appeared that I braked without any reason
