The backup camera is no longer working - just a black screen
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the back over prevention camera failed to operate as intended. The contact stated that the back over prevention camera displayed a black screen. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Rearview camera stopped working due to the tailgate wire harness failing from normal opening and closing of the tailgate .the issue appears to be identical to the subject of a recall in 2017 to 2019 model years.
My vehicle was driving 35MPH westbound on a 4 lane road (2 lanes easbound, 2 lanes westbound, no divider separating) a vehicle also traveling westbound, NOT in my lane, turned off the road. The Emergency braking system activated, bringing my vehicle to a full stop with no warning. There was NO traffic in front of me for a considerable distance (1/4 mile, approximately) No damage or impact, cars behind me stopped with 1-2 feet to spare.
Back up camera no longer works, all black when in reverse.
Backup camera goes black - no picture. Doing some follow up on the internet, this appears to be a problem that has affected other Honda Ridgelines.
Rear camera does not work. After investigation found four or five broken wires in the wire harness that goes to the rear camera and some other stuff
The reverse camera on the vehicle flickers black and then shows the image, or will be black the entire time. This happens intermittently
Rear Camera has stopped working. Black Screen. Poor rear visibility when trying to back up causing a safety issue. Same Issue as Service Bulletin 22-049 describes, except this is a 2020 not a 2019.
When stopping at a red light and or stop sign the engine shuts off as designed. But intermittently on restart after taking foot off the brake and pressing the gas, the engine will stall and not start. It acts like a weak battery but other times it starts perfectly fine. Have to put it in park to get it restarted. In the meantime traffic is backed up behind you.
My rear back-up camera suddenly stopped working. The display screen is fine, but no signal is reaching it. No warnings or messages. Worked one minute, not the next. Looking on-line in the forum, it looks like a common failure of the wiring harness at the tailgate.
The back-up video is not operating on this vehicle. It stopped functioning properly within the past week. In checking on this, it appears multiple other owners of this vehicle are experiencing the same issue and it generally relates to wires being pinched or cut accidently due to apparent design or equipment failure while vehicle is being operated in routine fashion. Specifically, it appears these wires are pinched and ultimately severed when tailgate is being opened/closed. This is an issue as the camera is very important manner for safely backing.
Back camera failed and screen goes black.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while shifting into reverse, the back-up camera occasionally failed to display an image. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V321000 (Back Over Prevention) and took the vehicle to the local dealer for the recall remedy. The recall repair was completed; however, the failure persisted, and the screen failed to display an image. The local dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
The backup camera suddenly went black. I saw this was a problem that led to a recall on earlier models of the Honda Ridgeline. I was fortunate in that the dealer did get it covered by the warranty department. The confirmed it was a wiring problem.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Ridgeline. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V458000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle turned unintendedly. An unknown warning light was illuminated. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Rear camera stopped working. The screen is blank with the guide lines showing
Backup camera wires pinched, camera stops working!
Back-up camera failed.
Side view mirrors were replaced for a recall. Replacement drivers side mirror was wavy and distorted. Made me not want to use it. More dangerous to drive not wanting to use that mirror.
I had my driver and passenger side mirrors replaced because of the issued recall. However, the new driver's mirror is now very distorted and causes a fun-house effect. This is a safety issue and it impacts visibility and safe operation of the vehicle while in motion. A quick review of online owner forums reveals this to be a common issue after the original mirror recall was issued. Please get Honda to issue a new recall and replace with adequate, safe mirrors!
My rear camera stopped working. My understanding is that it is a defect in the wiring harness. My rear camera is not useable, and makes backing up very difficult and is a potential hazard.
How long should it take for repairs on the recall items? I have not received info from Honda, and a call to a local dealership has done nothing except being told "we'll call you when the parts are in." First recall was 1 year ago, the other 9 months ago.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that the back-over prevention camera image failed to display an accurate image of the rear of the vehicle when shifted into reverse. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the back-over prevention camera wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that the rearview camera was intermittently inoperable while reversing. The contact stated that upon turning off and restarting the vehicle, the rearview camera became operable. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 24V321000 (Back Over Prevention), and 24V064000 (Air Bags); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The local dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V321000 (Back Over Prevention); unless the rearview camera image was blank and inoperable while reversing. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

My cars auto engine idle is malfunctioning causing my car to have serious transmission issues. I currently have 3 warning signs on my dashboard. 1. All wheel drive system problem 2. Auto engine idle stop system problem 3. charging system problem. I bought the car used last year. Its a 2020 honda ridgeline with only 29k mikes. Ive been seeing reports online that this issus has been affecting many honda users. Please help!! Honda needs to be responsible for this problem! RECALL NOW!
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that the driver's side-view mirror was replaced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V174000(Visibility), however the replacement side-view mirror displayed distorted images. In addition, the measured distance was inaccurate. The contact stated that the recall repair part was a low quality replacement and the images were distorted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the driver's side-view mirror was replaced again. However, the contact stated that the replacement was the same quality and distorted. The failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 39,000.
Sunroof exploded while traveling eastbound on [XXX] near Pensacola, FL. Per the internet this has occurred. There is currently a class action lawsuit against Honda. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The vehicle auto stop start function failed causing the vehicle to stall. Recall for previous known issue with this system has been performed. Vehicle has a brand new battery installed by Honda service at a Honda dealership. When outside temperature is below 10 degrees Fahrenheit intermittently at a stop where the vehicle auto stop start engages and stops the engine the system fails to restart. Warning in panel states to press brake and push start button to restart vehicle. Vehicle stalled and was immobile at intersection until driver restarted vehicle manually.
OEM starter that vehicle came with failed at 40,000 miles. Took vehicle to Honda dealership and dealership stated that starter motor was weak and need replacing. No warning such as weak or delayed start was present. Vehicle simply would not start in the morning after functioning properly the day previously. Jumping the vehicle did not help. The vehicle starter giving out so early and unexpectedly could leave motorists stranded at unexpected places or times.
The backup camera display is sometimes black. This is an intermittent problem that seems to stem from a poor connection. Manipulating the wiring leading from the tailgate can restore the camera's operation. This wiring is routed in such a wear that it seems prone to mechanical wear over time leading to a poor connection.
rear view camera and rear traffic and warning systems stopped working. Honda diagnosed and repaired the wiring harness. NHTSA has opened an investigation PE24004 which appears to identical to the issue we have.
Honda Ridgeline model year 2020. Rear view camera intermittently not working. Issue can be temporally resolved by opening the tailgate in one of the two ways (flip down or swing out) Diagnosed by dealer as requiring a tailgate harness replacement. This appears to be same/similar to the 2017-2019 recall KCK 2017-19. (Honda service bulletin 22-049)
Auto dimming/high beam feature flickers on and off intermittently at night without little relation to oncoming vehicles or dark highways. I have asked my local dealer twice to repair this problem, with no resolution. (see attached invoices). I also opened case with the manufacturer (Honda), and they declined to address my issue. I believe this is a safety issue because it is distracting to me and oncoming drivers.
My reverse camera was intermittent approximately 2 months ago. It would occasionally flicker, but then went totally dark with no picture. I took it upon myself to investigate for a loose wire as I know this was an items that was recalled on the 2017-19 models as well. I did find a severed wire, which leads me to believe that the same issues that forced a recall on the previous models is also affecting my 2020 Ridgeline. The absence of the backup camera makes backing out of parking space or the potential for colliding with other cars or pedestrians a very real concern.
DRIVER MIRROR ALWAYS REQUIRES REAJUSTMENT. THIS ON INITAIL STARTUP OR EVERY TIME REVERSE GEAR IS SELECTED.
My Ridgeline was at the Honda dealer for a recall on both left and right exterior mirrors. (Glass only) Both were replaced. After leaving the dealer, the drivers side mirror image appeared wavy and distorted. It was difficult to focus on the image while driving rendering the mirror almost useless. The passenger side appears perfect. How can a replacement drivers side mirror installed due to a recall be worse than the recalled unit it replaced? Frustrating.
Rear camera stopped working about six weeks ago. It does work intermittently when the tailgate is down. Dealer claimed I need new camera and harness, approaching $1,000! Independent repair shop confirmed it is just the harness. My understanding is that 2017-2019 models are under recall for the harness safety defect. Please extend this recall to the 2020 model year!!!
Rear view camera wiring harness broken. Recalls on 2017 to 2019. My truck is built in 1-20 and is out of warranty. Same issue as with previous Ridgeline harness. Safety issues with no backup. Dealer refuses to do anything about it as it is not in current recall and it's out of warranty.
The rear camera on my 2020 Honda Ridgeline has failed. The dealership identifies the wiring harness "showing wires" and has ordered a replacement. Right now I'm unable to see anything behind the vehicle. Only a Honda dealer has confirmed the problem. For a few weeks the problem would come and go but now only an abbreviated "ladder" like diagram shows up when putting the vehicle in reverse. No live picture. The truck has less than 25000 miles and never used commercially.
I shifted the vehicle into reverse and the parking assist camera (backup camera) did not appear on the infotainment screen as it should. There is an active recall on the 2017 - 2019 models as Honda is aware of this problem with the tailgate wiring harness design. Backing up without the visual aid poses a serious safety threat to any pedestrians or vehicles that may not be seen due to the camera not working as it should. I have not yet scheduled a repair for this item but will update when the problem is remedied. There was no warning before this occured. It was sudden without any signs. It is my hope and the duty of the manufacturer that this issue is fixed within ALL model years that this problem is known to occur.
When operating the vehicle in reverse, the dashboard screen was black/blank instead of displaying the view from the rear backup camera. The issue began to occur intermittently at ~40,000 miles and the camera was completely non-operational at 42,163k miles (10/21/2023). Upon investigating and diagnosing the root cause of failure, the dealer determined that the rear backup camera wiring harness failed. The failure point was a flexible section at the rear tailgate hinge that permits opening and closing the rear tailgate. Because the dealer's total replacement cost was too expensive (>$500), the original wiring harness was repaired by the owner. At 50,185 miles, the failure is intermittently occurring again with the repaired harness. A non-operational backup camera puts pedestrians, cyclists and others at risk when the vehicle is backing up because the driver may not be aware of their presence and could strike them or cause a collision. The local dealer diagnosed the issue and subsequently sold the owner a new replacement wiring harness that has yet to be installed. The vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem occurred prior to the failure.
Rear backup camera display going black when backing up. There is a recall for the 2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline but there is not one for the 2020. The same issue is present where the dual action tailgate frays the wiring and eventually separates. The master technician at Honda stated that this fix is exactly the same as the previous years when that recall was performed on other vehicles. At first the back-up camera would work then it would go black until I opened and closed the tailgate. Then it got bad enough that it always went black. This is a design and safety issue. Honda remedied the issue by charging me for a new wiring harness, routing the wiring efficiently and the initial inspection.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle started shaking abnormally and became unstable. The failure had occurred a second time while driving 50 MPH. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 34,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while attempting to reverse, he became aware that the rearview camera was not functioning as needed. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V867000 (Back Over Prevention) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 45,000.
Rear camera has failed and no longer works. Previously flickering then went dead. Same problem as with 2019 Ridgelines and other Hondas. Has been extended to other 2020 Hondas but not the ridgeline. This is an early build ridgeline that was delivered in Jan 2020.
The wiring harness for the rear back up camera is beginning to fail. I know this is an issue and has been a recall on the 2017-2019 model years. The harness that fails is the exact same on the 2020 model and should be recalled as well.
AT odometer reading 35870, while loading the pickup for a trip home the backup camera failed. No local dealership was open on the weekend and we were 600 miles from home. Upon arrival, Monday, the local dealership was called and we were told the repair would not be covered by warranty and a similar recall on 2019 vehicles would not apply to 2020 model year for the same issue.
The rear view screen function located on the dashboard's video monitor stopped working and the screen only showed the yellow guide lines and the rear view image was blanked out. I took the truck to a Honda dealer for repair and they found the cause was the Tailgate Harness wiring rubbed down and the wires are broken. I was informed that it would cost me approximately $500 to purchase and replace the wiring harness. This issue was rated by NHTSA as a safety issue and Honda issued a recall for 2017-2019 Ridgeline trucks. When I contacted Honda they stated that my 2020 vehicle was not covered and they would not reimburse me for the fix. Because this issue is the same as 2017-2019 vehicles, NHTSA should require Honda to extend their recall for this issue to 2020 vehicles.
