NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2023 Honda Ridgeline. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Car lost power and check engine light came on when exiting the highway on an off ramp.
After driving on an interstate or four lane road for a while (cold weather) when I pull off an exit and start to accelerate the truck has no power and the check engine light is on. The dealer tells me that the engine goes into a safety mode so that it is not doing any damage to the engine. I have to safely pull over and shut truck off and it must reset computer. My problem is you do not know there is no power until you pull out on the road that may have 55 mph traffic coming and there is no power to accelerate. I have had this happen four- five times and had in for repairs three time hoping truck is fixed. Dealer says they have adjusted something. First happen 2/2023 after having truck for a few weeks.
Automatic high beams don’t work fluidly. This is a safety issue because they are sensitive to the point where it seems you are “high beaming” oncoming traffic. This problem has been confirmed by several legitimate websites and by myself. All components are in working order. There are no warning lamps as this is the way the vehicle was intended to operate by the manufacturer. Honda let it slip past and it should not have. This problem needs further review by NHTSA for safety purposes. Thanks
Automatic headlight auto bright does not work correctly. Sometimes does not dim to regular headlight and goes back and forth without oncoming cars also.
We purchased our new 2023 Ridgeline RTL-E 4 six months ago and always noticed that the passenger inside door handle wouldn’t open the door unless we pushed the unlock button, the driver’s door works normally. We thought this might be a new safety thing until we tried to manually unlock the passenger door today and could not, meaning the passenger door can only be opened inside if you electronically unlock the door. That’s concerning…if we loose battery power in a wreck, you cannot get out the passenger door!! We are calling the dealer in the morning to get this addressed.
Automatic highbeam system stays on hi for oncoming vehicles, flashes oncoming vehicles, dims for road signs.
1- The GPS unit doesn't understand me. Im told it cannot be repaired. Honda won't repair it. This is a safety hazard because I have to scramble for my phone to get directions. 2- The charging pad doesn't work. Again, Honda admits to the problem but has no fix. I must look away to charge up the phone when using it for GPS.
Auto high beam headlights do not function properly. The high beams will turn on or will not turn off high beams when approaching another vehicle. High beams will turn off when the system sees another light source, such as a pole light, several hundred feet off the road. High beams will also turn on and off for no apparent reason.
The truck lurches forward maybe 2". Once when parking and once when using the remote start. Fortunately it didn't hit anything or anybody.
Auto high beams do not work properly. When using they do not work as intended and cause an extreme danger for visibility. I nearly hit a deer at highway speeds due to failure to operate when should have been in high beam. Also they go on and off causing blinding to oncoming traffic. This is a well known problem documented by numerous honda Ridgeline owners. It needs to be fixed before more people are injured or killed as a result.
The auto headlights have not worked at all since we have owned this vehicle. I have followed the instructions to the letter to setup the auto headlight function up. Frustrated, vehicle was taken to dealer and they acknowledge a problem as they cannot fix it until Honda issues a repair solution. The truck has 560 miles on it. Problematic headlights are a real concern at night
The component I will be writing about is the front, passenger door locking feature (interior side). I have taken my vehicle to the Honda dealership for inspection. I have also checked New Honda Ridgelines on the lot and found this same locking feature doesn't work the same in each vehicle. This means, in my opinion, that this issue is coming right out of the factory. This problem is easily reproduced. So here is the problem and is only affected on the passenger front door (interior side). The driver's side front door locking feature works without issue. When after manually locking the front passenger door by sliding and pushing in the lock, you are able to open the door by using the interior door handle without issue. The problem is when you use the POWER lock button on either side of the vehicle to lock all the doors. On the driver's side, you can open the door using the handle without issue. On the front passenger side, when pulling the handle ( to open the door), the handle moves a bit, then is physically stopped by something inside the door causing you to be UNABLE to open the door. In addition to this, you cannot slide the lock to the open position so that you can open the door. So if you used the power button to lock the doors, then got in an accident and the power was disabled, you could be trapped on the passenger side and would really be a problem if a fire had started. The dealership loaned me a 2022 Honda Pilot, and it has the same issue as my truck.
