While driving in extreme rain downfall at night my windshield wipers stopped functioning. I could not see the road. Luckily I had just exited the highway when this happened. Therefore I was able to move over to the side of the road turn on my hazards and wait an hour for the rain to settle before driving to a near by gas station. Otherwise a fatality would have been likely being on a busy interstate should the wipers failed to function then. That wipers do not work and the Hummer can not be driven when rain is expected. I heard a recall had been issued for wiper malfunction. However when pulling up any recalls from my vin nothing shows but I have seen recalls for this situation and for the same make model and year. Please advise. I have given the vehicle to my 16 year old son a soon to be new driver and is excited to start but I must get this safety isssue taken care of first.
ONE EVENING WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN ON A LOCAL ROAD HEADED HOME MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS WHICH OFCOURSE WERE IN OPERATION SUDDENLY STOPPED STUCK IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION I IMMEDIATELY HEARD A SOMEWHAT LOUD HUMMING NOISE SOUNDING AS IF IT WERE COMING FROM INSIDE THE UPPER DASHBOARD I COULDN'T SEE TO DRIVE AS I NATURALLY RESPONDED TO THE WIPERS SUDDENLY STOPPING AND IN THE UPWARD POSITION MAKING IT HARD FOR ME TO SEE WHILE DRIVING, I QUICKLY TURNED THE KNOB ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHICH OPERATES THE WIPERS SPEED AND ON & OFF FUNCTION IN HOPES IT WOULD BRING THE WIPERS DOWN TO THE RESTING POSITION ESPECIALLY IF TURNED OFF HOWEVER EVEN THOUGH I TURNED THE KNOB TO THE OFF POSITION THE WIPERS REMAINED FROZEN IN THE SAME UPWARD STATE AS WHEN NO LONGER WIPING BUT THE HUMMING NOISE STOPPED. I QUICKLY PULLED OFF THE ROAD TURNING THE WIPERS ON AGAIN I COULD HERE THE HUMMING NOISE BUT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STILL FAILED TO MOVE. WHEN I TURN THE WIPERS OFF AGAIN NO NOISE COULD BE HEARD AND YET STILL NOT MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN MOVING THE WIPERS WHICH STOPPED WORKING WHILE IN THE UP ON WINDSHIELD POSITION. AFTER TOGGLING AROUND WITH THE ON AND OFF KNOB AND THE NOISE COMING ON AND OFF IN SEQUENCE WITH BUT NOT THE WIPERS I CONCLUDED THAT THE MOTOR WAS THE NOISE I WAS HEARING ESTABLISHING IT STILL WORKS HOWEVER NOT MOVING THE WIPERS IT IS INTENDED FOR. A WORKING WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR OR WHATEVER OPERATING MECHANISM BUT NO FUNCTIONAL WIPERS. THEREFORE I CAN NOT SEE ANYTIME DRIVING AND ALONG COMES THE RAIN FOR IT QUICKLY IMPAIRS THE VISIBILITY TO SEE THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD TO SEE THE ROAD OR TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF YOU MAKING EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND PUTTING OTHER DRIVERS AT RISK ESPECIALLY IF ON THE HIGHWAY DOING FAST SPEEDS AND/ OR A PLACE WHERE IT IS NOT EASY TO PULL OVER SUDDENLY MAKES VERY STRESSFUL AND INCONVENIENT

THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING, WHILE IN THE POURING DOWN RAIN. NO ACCIDENT, BUT THE 2003 H2 DOES HAVE A RECALL ON THE WIPERS FOR THIS EXACT REASON. I HAD TO PUT OUT OVER 700 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE VIN NUMBER REVIEWED AS TO WHY IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AS WHAT HAPPENED IS WHAT THEY DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM TO BE. I WAS DRIVING HOME AFTER WORK AND IT STARTED TO RAN. I TURNED ON MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND THEY WORKED FOR A SHORT TIME THEN JUST STOPPED. I TURNED OFF THE WIPERS AND TRIED TO GET THEM TO RESTART, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED SO I TURNED THEM OFF. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, THEY CAME BACK ON AT HIGH SPEED AND I COULDN'T TURN THEM OFF ; THE WASHER FLUID STARTED SHOOTING OUT MASSIVELY UNTIL IT WAS RESERVE WAS EMPTY. MY WIPERS STAY ON CONSTANTLY AND ONLY TURN OFF WHEN I TURN THE CAR OFF. THE DEALERSHIP (VERA HUMMER IN PEMBROKE PINES FL )STATES THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE COVER BUT THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE MOTOR, I AM RESPONSIBLE. THAT IS NOT RIGHT THIS IS A DEFECT AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE HUMMER MANUFACTURER. *TR
I WAS UNAWARE OF THE RECALL 08V456000 UNTIL THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON MY HUMMER H2 BEGAN UNTIL THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED TO WORK INTERMITTENTLY AND THEN BECAME INOPERATIVE. GM ISSUED A SECOND RECALL FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE MOTOR, BUT SAID MY VIN FELL OUTSIDE OF THE RECALL POINTS. I AM HAVING A VERY DIFFICULT TIME FINDING A REPLACEMENT MOTOR AT A PRICE I CAN AFFORD. GM SAYS IT IS JUST MY PROBLEM. I HAVE A YOUNG CHILD AND AM UNABLE TO USE MY VEHICLE AS I NEED TO BECAUSE OF CONCERN FOR HIS SAFETY. GM IS RECALLING 13,358 MY 2003 HUMMER H2 VEHICLES. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE A CONDITION IN WHICH WATER CAN ENTER THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR MODULE. IF A SUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF WATER ENTERS THE MODULE, OVER TIME, THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS MAY WORK INTERMITTENTLY OR THEY MAY BECOME INOPERATIVE CONSEQUENCE IF THIS WERE TO OCCUR, DRIVER VISIBILITY COULD BE REDUCED, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH. REMEDY DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MODULE COVER, AND REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MODULE COVER FREE OF CHARGE. *TR

RECALL NOTICE DOCUMENT ID # 1197628 STATES THE RECALL IS TO REPLACE A COVER OVER THE MOTOR TO PREVENT IT FROM FAILING....... WHEN I TOOK MY TRUCK TO HAVE THE RECALL PERFORMED THEY CHANGED THE COVER? LEAVING THE MOTOR INOPERABLE. I AM SURE THIS WAS NOT THE INTENTION OF THE RECALL. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 HUMMER H2. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. IN 2005 THE WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER MODULE FAILED DURING HEAVY RAINS. THE DEALER REPLACED IT UNDER WARRANTY. ON JANUARY 21, 2010, DURING HEAVY RAINS, IT FAILED AGAIN. I LOOKED UP THE MODULE ON THE INTERNET TO FIND OUT THAT IN 2008, 2003 HUMMERS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS VERY REASON. UNFORTUNATELY, MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT WITHIN THOSE RECALLED. I SAW POSTS REGARDING THE FAILURE OF THIS MODULE ON MANY OTHER YEARS. I CONTACTED GMC, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE MODULE BECAUSE IT WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THEY ONLY RECALL MODELS WHEN THE NHTSA FORCES THEM TO, AND THEY DO NOT VOLUNTEER ANY RECALL. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND THEY SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS OBSCURE UNIT FAILING. NO OTHER CAR IN THE WORLD HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM, ONLY HUMMER. *TR

THE CONTACT WENT BACK TO THE REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE WITHIN THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH DUE TO EXCESSIVE MOISTURE. THE CONTACT INQUIRED WITH THE MANUFACTURER ABOUT AN UNKNOWN RECALL HOWEVER, SHE WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM IF HER VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VIN INFORMATION WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
