TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HYUNDAI ACCENT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR SUDDENLY CAME DOWN AND OBSTRUCTED THE CONTACT'S VIEW. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A GUARDRAIL WHILE ATTEMPTING TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH A SECOND VEHICLE. DURING THE INCIDENT, THE DRIVER SUSTAINED AN INJURED LOWER BACK AND NECK. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT RECEIVED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER (JIM HUDSON HYUNDAI, 310 GREYSTONE BLVD, COLUMBIA, SC 29210) WERE CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000. *TT *TR
CPSC:A FEW WEEKS PRIOR TO RECEIVING THE NOTICE, THE EXHAUST PIPE (FROM THE FRONT AXLE TO THE MUFFLER) FELL OFF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AFTER RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICE, BUT THE REIMBURSEMENT CLAIM WAS DENIED WITHOUT EXPLANATION. ALSO, THE FRONT ROCKER ARMS REQUIRED A REPLACEMENT DUE TO RUSTING, IN ADDITION TO THE ROTORS AND BREAKING SYSTEM. THE ENTIRE SUSPENSION SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO RUSTING. THE CONSUMER STATED THE SERVICE COMPLETED BY THE DEALER WAS EITHER SPRAYED FOR RUST PROOFING OR, WAS INEFFECTIVE. UPDATED 08/31/2017*JS
ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2013, WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT, I TRIED TO UNLOCK THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT DOOR LOCK BY PRESSING THE UNLOCK BUTTON TO ALLOW MY PASSENGER TO GET INTO THE CAR. ALL CAR DOOR LOCKS OPENED EXCEPT THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER. SO I PRESSED THE BUTTON AGAIN AND ALL THE DOORS LOCKED. WAITED AND HIT THE UNLOCK BUTTON AND ALL THE DOORS UNLOCKED EXCEPT FOR THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE IN THE CAR AND WENT AROUND TO THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER DOOR AND INSERTED THE KEY DIRECTLY IN THE DOOR LOCK. IT STILL WOULD NOT OPEN UNTIL I INSERTED THE KEY AND PULLED THE DOOR HANDLE AT THE SAME TIME. SO VERY RELUCTANTLY MY PASSENGER GOT INTO THE FRONT SEAT. HE TRIED TO UNLOCK THE DOOR ONCE INSIDE BY USING THE HANDLE AND WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED THE DEALER WHERE I HAD PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TO ANALYZE THE PROBLEM. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2013 AND WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH WHAT I LEARNED. THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR WAS BAD AND A SPECIAL PART WOULD HAVE TO BE ORDERED. THE TOTAL COST OF REPAIR FOR THIS DEFECTIVE PART WOULD COST ME $346.13 + TAX. THE SERVICE MANAGER DID OFFER ME A 10% DISCOUNT. AT THAT TIME I DECLINED THE REPAIR BECAUSE OF THE COST. I AM VERY NERVOUS NOW ABOUT EVEN DRIVING THE CAR BECAUSE I WORRY THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOCK ACTUATOR MAY ONE DAY TRAP ME IN THE VEHICLE AS WELL. MY CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. BECAUSE OF THE NATURE OF THIS SAFETY DEFECT, I DON'T FEEL THAT IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO BEAR THE FULL COST OF REPAIR. SO I'M BRINGING THIS TO YOUR ATTENTION. *TR
THE SPOILER(FT BUMPER) TOTALLY RIPPED OFF MY VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. I RAN OVER IT AND THEN RETRIEVED IT. THE RIVETS CAME RIGHT OUT OF VEHICLE. THE TIRES DID NOT FAIL BUT THE NEXT DAY THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP THEY STATED THEY WANTED ME TO FILE AN ACCIDENT REPORT. BUT I DIDN'T HAVE AN ACCIDENT THE EQUIPMENT IS FAULTY THE METHOD IN WHICH ITS ATTACHED TO THE MAIN FRAME. ALUMINUM RIVETS AND GLUE. THE VIBRATION OF THE ROAD AND THE AIRFLOW COMING UP UNDERNEATH MADE THE SPOILER RIP OFF. I DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT COMING OFF. VERY DANGEROUS AND SAFETY ISSUES IF THE TIRES BUSTED THE CAR WOULD HAVE FLIPPED MANY TIMES AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR DEAD. *TR UPDATED IVOQ 09/10/09.*JB
