UNKNOWN. I THINK THE ABS MODULE LIGHT APPEARED INSTANTLY ON THE DASHBOARD. IT'S THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES THAT AREN'T WORKING. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED MY HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHEN I SAW A BRAKE LIGHT COME UP ON MY DASHBOARD WHEN I WENT TO BRAKE BUT I HAD NONE AND THE BRAKES WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND I ALMOST WENT OVER A CLIFF AND DIED OR BADLY HURT OTHERS OR MYSELF IN A CAR ACCIDENT. I'M WILLING TO TRY AND GET IT FIXED AT OTHER INDEPENDENT SERVICE CENTERS IN PLYMOUTH MASSACHUSETTS. THE EVENT HAD HAPPENED A WEEK BEFORE BUT I DIDN'T REPORT THIS INCIDENT TO THE POLICE, INSURANCE REPRESENTATIVES/OTHERS OR ANY OTHER MANUFACTURER BECAUSE THERE WASN'T OFFICIALLY ANY AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENTS. FINALLY, MY HYUNDAI ACCENT 2012 WAS DONATED TO ME BY "GOOD NEWS GARAGE" OVER 2.5-3 YRS AGO THROUGH A WORK-TO-PROGRAM/DONATION UNDER THE M.R.C. OR MASSACHUSETTS REHABILITATION CENTER IN PLYMOUTH MASSACHUSETTS WHICH IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED AND IS NOW CALLED MASS OPTIONS AND THAT'S THE ONLY THING I KNOW ABOUT THIS SITUATION WITH NO BRAKES. PLEASE HELP ME. I NEED TO KNOW MY NEXT STEPS. THANK YOU! OWNER AND DRIVER [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On the [XXX], my 2012 Hyundai Accent caught fire in the engine compartment and engulfed in flames. Right before the fire started, smoke came out of the air vents into the car, causing me to become stifled and choke for several minutes. Smoke was also coming out of the hood. At that point, I lifted the hood and there were flames coming out of the engine. During the past six months prior to the fire, I developed a chronic cough and now believe it might have been attributed to fumes that I have been inhaling through the air vents from my car's engine. My [XXX] mother and [XXX] son have suffered headaches, coughing, sore throat and congestion when riding in my car with the air conditioner turned on. The remains of the vehicle were inspected by the Rockdale County Fire Department after they extinguished the fire. What remains of the car is available for inspection in Rockdale County Ga at a tow yard designated by the Rockdale County emergency rescue team members who assisted me. It was too damaged to tow to my home. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the engine catching fire on [XXX]. The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the rear driver's side tire suddenly became flat. There was an abnormal sound coming from the infotainment system and the vehicle was shuddering. The contact stated that the front driver's side and the rear passenger's side windows were stuck and had to be manually raised. The check engine, air bag, and low tire pressure warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The instrument panel stopped working preventing the ability to determine speed or gas guage. Lights on the instrument panel dis engage when headlights are turned on.
I received this notice of a safety recall for my 2012 Hyundai accent in late October. Hyundai stated that a remedy would be available in late November. Now it's late December, and I've heard nothing from Hyundai. This safety recall sounds urgent and incredibly dangerous; I don't feel safe driving or parking my vehicle anywhere because according to them, it can catch fire at any moment. Despite this, Hyundai hasn't provided any more solutions other than parking my car outside, which doesn't solve the issue with driving it and frankly isn't any more safe. Hyundai isn't responding quickly enough at all for how urgent this issue is, even though several vehicle fires and thermal incidents have already occurred due to this very issue. It's ridiculous that they state the vehicle is safe to drive, yet they admit that the vehicle can catch fire while it's being driven. At this point, the government needs to step in and hold Hyundai accountable, for the sake of public safety. They need to be made to provide a solution that actually solves the problem, even if it isn't cheap to do so.
Our 2012 Hyundai accent hatchback is not drivable at this time is is over at the service department through Ron Marhofer Hyundai of Green in Akron Ohio, it has not been repaired yet.. our vehicle was dropped off [XXX] and today of this letter it's [XXX] still No repair I am very upset because my wife is in stage 4 cancer and has to have treatments and now I am unable at this time to let her meet her medical needs.. I am so stressed about this mess the service manager is trying to provide us a loaner but we are waiting what I would like to happen if it cannot be repaired I would like a check for the difference so I can buy another vehicle like a buyback. Hyundai's current handling of recall 251 is inadequate, posing significant danger to drivers and passengers. Hyundai's remedy for Recall 251 replaces ABS fuse with a lower amperage fuse. While this may prevent fires caused by brake fluid leaks, it disables the ABS, introducing severe safety hazards: •Without ABS, the risk of wheel lockup during heavy braking increases, leading to skidding and loss of control. •ABS reduces stopping distances, especially on slippery surfaces. Disabling it may result in longer stopping distances, raising collision risks. •Drivers accustomed to ABS may not be prepared for how the vehicle behaves without it, potentially leading to improper braking. Federal regulations mandate that all U.S. cars and minivans manufactured in 2012 or later must have four-wheel ABS. By disabling the ABS, Hyundai circumvents this requirement, compromising safety. Despite attempts to communicate these safety issues, Hyundai has shown inadequate response. This suggests a disregard for customer safety and an effort to avoid liability and the cost of providing loaner vehicles or temporary replacements. Hyundai has not offered alternative transportation to affected drivers. Given these safety risks and Hyundai's inadequate response, we urgently request NHTSA to: 1.Ensure Recall 251 Remedy does not compromise safety by disabling the ABS. 2.Hold Hyundai accountable for maintaining four-wheel ABS in affected vehicles. 3.Require Hyundai to develop a safer recall remedy that: oFixes the Root Cause: Properly addresses the brake fluid leak to eliminate the fire risk without compromising the ABS. oMaintains ABS Functionality: Ensures the ABS system remains fully operational. oProvides Safety Support: Advises vehicle owners not to drive affected vehicles until the new remedy is implemented and provides loaner vehicles or temporary replacements. We urge the NHTSA to take immediate & decisive action to compel Hyundai to develop a safer, more effective solution.

JUL 02,2020 MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER193 NHTSA RECALL NUMBER20V393000 RECALL STATUSRECALL INCOMPLETE SUMMARY HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA (HYUNDAI) IS RECALLING CERTAIN 2011-2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA AND SONATA HYBRID, 2012 ACCENT AND VELOSTER VEHICLES. THE 12V ACCESSORY SOCKET OUTLET MAY HAVE BEEN OVER-TIGHTENED DURING INSTALLATION, POSSIBLY DISABLING THE THERMAL FUSE AND ALLOWING THE OUTLET TO OVERHEAT WITH PROLONGED USE, SUCH AS BY USING THE TIRE MOBILITY KIT AIR COMPRESSOR TO INFLATE A TIRE. YESTERDAY, 2020-10-19, SINCE I NEVER OWNED THE ORIGINAL AIR PUMP, THE DEALER (VISION HYUNDAI - HENRIETTA NEW YORK) REFUSED TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE. BUT BOTH HE AND YOU (NHTSA) SEEM TO BE MAKING A SERIOUSLY EGREGIOUS ERROR IN LOGIC. ANY THIRD PARTY DEVICE WHICH PLUGS INTO THE 12V ACCESSORY PORT COULD CAUSE THE SAME RISK OF FIRE BECAUSE IT IS THE *PORT* WHICH IS DEFECTIVE, NOT THE AIR PUMP. THAT'S WHAT THE RECALL NOTICE SAYS, I QUOTE FROM ABOVE: > THE 12V ACCESSORY SOCKET OUTLET MAY HAVE BEEN OVER-TIGHTENED DURING > INSTALLATION, POSSIBLY DISABLING THE THERMAL FUSE AND ALLOWING THE > OUTLET TO OVERHEAT WITH PROLONGED USE, HYUNDAI'S PROPOSED WORK-AROUND OF USING A DIRECT TO BATTERY HARNESS CONNECTION IS RIDICULOUS ON TWO COUNTS. 1. IT DOESN'T SOLVE THE ROOT-CAUSE PROBLEM. 2. IT REQUIRES CUSTOMERS TO MANUALLY CONNECT WIRES TO THE BATTERY, SOMETHING THAT WE KNOW CAN BE DANGEROUS. I QUOTE: PER YOUR OWN RESEARCH DATA: FROM OCTOBER 1993-SEPTEMBER 1994, THERE WERE 581 INJURIES FROM CHECKING THE BATTERY CABLES, AND 444 INJURIES FROM JUMP STARTING THE BATTERY. FOR A TOTAL OF 1025 INJURIES IN ONE YEAR ALONE! (DATA FROM TABLE 1) (RETRIEVED 2020-10-20 FROM HTTPS://CRASHSTATS.NHTSA.DOT.GOV/API/PUBLIC/VIEWPUBLICATION/97840 ) SURELY, YOU (NHTSA) WOULDN'T ENDORSE A SOLUTION WHICH HAS WORSE SAFETY HAZZARDS THAN THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM. WOULD YOU?

ON SATURDAY MARCH 23, 2019 I WAS DRIVING MY 2012 HYUNDAI ACCENT ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS TRAVELING IN THE LEFT HAND LANE, ON CRUISE CONTROL, GOING ABOUT 73 MPH. A SEMI-TRUCK IN THE RIGHT HAND LAND A FEW HUNDRED YARDS IN FRONT OF ME MOVED OVER INTO MY LANE DUE TO A CONSTRUCTION ZONE AHEAD, SO I ATTEMPTED TO TURN OFF MY CRUISE CONTROL TO SLOW DOWN FOR THE MERGING SEMI-TRUCK. I APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT MY CAR DID NOT TURN OFF CRUISE-CONTROL OR SLOW DOWN, BUT INSTEAD ACCELERATED. I ATTEMPTED AGAIN TO HIT THE BRAKES TO TURN OFF CRUISE CONTROL, BUT AGAIN THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN. I TRIED BOTH THE CANCEL AND THE ON/OFF BUTTONS ON THE STEERING WHEEL, BUT THERE WAS NO WAY TO DISENGAGE CRUISE CONTROL. I WAS QUICKLY APPROACHING THE SEMI-TRUCK AND WAS UNABLE TO SLOW DOWN MY MOVING VEHICLE. IN ORDER TO AVOID REAR-ENDING THE SEMI-TRUCK AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, I WAS FORCED TO VEER LEFT OFF THE HIGHWAY ONTO THE SOFT SHOULDER, AND WAS TRAVELING LOCKED ON CRUISE CONTROL AT 73 MPH HALFWAY ON THE GRASS MEDIAN AND HALFWAY ON THE RUMBLE STRIP OF THE SOFT SHOULDER. THE BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL SWITCHES WERE STILL NOT WORKING, REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH I APPLIED THE BRAKES OR WHAT COMBINATION I HIT THE SWITCHES. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET MY CAR TO SLOW DOWN BY HITTING THE CLUTCH AND STALLING MY CAR. THIS WAS AN ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC INCIDENT, AND I AM LUCKY TO HAVE BEEN UNINJURED AND TO HAVE AVOIDED WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
THE SWITCH FOR THE WINDOWS IN THE BACK SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. THERE WAS A LOUD POP! AND SUDDENLY THE WINDOWS COULDN'T BE RAISED BACK UP AND INSTEAD STAYED AT HALF MAST. IT HAPPENED TO ONE REAR WINDOW, AND THEN A COUPLE MONTHS LATER, HAPPENED TO THE OTHER. I HAVE TO MANUALLY PUSH THE WINDOWS UP WITH MY HANDS WHEN THE REAR WINDOWS FALL.
I START THE CAR AND THE AIR BAG SENSOR COMES ON AND STAYS ON, THEN THE PASSENGERS SEAT BELT COMES ON WHIEN I HAVE A PASSENGER SEATED THERE. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFTEY ISSUE AND HYUNDAII SHOULD FIX IT!!!! I CONTACTED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SUPPORT, THEY STATED ITS MY PROBLEM AND THEY WOULD NOT HELP.
CAR WOULD NOT START. FOUND INFORMATION ONLINE REGARDING SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT A TRANSMISSION SHAFT SENSOR AND A QUICK FIX BY PLACING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND BACK TO PARK. USED THIS FIX AND CAR SUBSEQUENTLY STARTED.
FOR SOME REASON NOW SINCE MOVING MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. ALSO THE MOTOR FOR THE WINDOWS IS ACTING LIKE IT DOESN'T WANT TO WORK I HAVE A HARD TIME CLOSING WINDOWS ONCE THEY ARE OUT DOWN. HELP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2012 HYUNDAI ACCENT. WHILE PARKED, RODENTS ENTERED THE VEHICLE AND CHEWED THROUGH THE ELECTRICAL WIRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE INSPECTED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
AROUND 50000 MILES THE CAR WOULD OVER REV ABOUT 1000-2000 RPM WHEN THE CLUTCH WAS RELEASED AND FOOT OFF OF THE GAS. IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE. NOW IT WILL ON ITS OWN WHILE STANDING AT IDLE RUN UP TO 5000-6000 RPM WITHOUT WARNING AND THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO TURN THE CAR OFF. WHEN IN GEAR, THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. IF YOU DEPRESS THE CLUTCH, AGAIN IT WILL RUN UP TO 5000-6000 RPM. THE PROBLEM BECOMES EXACERBATED IN WARMER WEATHER AND LESSENED IN COLD WEATHER. DURING THE 12/24 HEAT WAVE HERE IN PA, THE CAR WAS UNDRIVEABLE AND DANGEROUS AS I COULD NOT DEPEND ON IT NOT "TAKING OFF". THE DEALER UPDATED THE SOFTWARE ON 12/22 WHICH DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE, AND NO CODES WERE FOUND IN THE COMPUTER! BEFORE 50,000 MILES EVERYTHING WAS FINE.
GOT CAR IN 2011 IN 2015 IT STOPPED WORKING AFTER MAKING LOUD NOISES THAT BEGAN WITH A CHIRP, FOUND OUT IT WAS ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY. HAD TO BORROW TO FIX IT IT WAS 700.00 +. 14 MONTHS LATER IT DID IT AGAIN, THE SHOP GUY WAS SO ANGRY HE CONTACTED HIS PARTS GUY AND GOT ANOTHER ALTERNATOR, I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO JOSEPH'S GARAGE AND THEY INSTALLED THE SECOND ALERNATOR! NOW ITS DOING IT AGAIN!!!! I CANNOT KEEP DOING THIS. GOING TO FTC, BBB, AND ATTORNEY GENERAL. ALSO FEDERAL CONSUMER PROTECTION.
AFTER PULLING OUT FROM A STOP VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND WENT TO AN IDLE MODE, OIL LIGHT AND BATTERY LIGHT ILLUMINATED BUT NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED AND EVERYTHING WORKED FINE. VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND THE TECH EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM DURING TEST DRIVE. VEHICLE DID NOT STORE A DTC ERROR CODE TO DEALERSHIP CALLED TECH LINE WHO ADVISED TO REMOVE AND CLEAN THROTTLE BODY. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FOR 1 1/2 DAYS FOLLOWING REPAIR. TODAY WHILE STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED, OIL LIGHT CAME ON, BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE WENT TO IDLE MODE. VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND WOULD NOT RESTART. HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. *TR
