CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG LIGHT. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, TECHNICIAN INDICATED THAT COMPUTER CORRODED, BUT IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. *AK THE DOOR MOLDING WAS HANGING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. *SC *JB ABL.PCO
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THIS CAUSED A REAR END CRASH. NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BACK AND NECK INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO THE HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *AK *SC *JB
THIS VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE WEATHER STRIPPING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HAS A 4" LONG PIECE TORN OUT OF IT AT MID DOOR LEVEL AND THE DOOR FRAME HAS AN ABRASION APPROXIMATELY 6" LONG AT MID DOOR LEVEL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT CAUSED THE ABRASION AND THE TORN WEATHER STRIPPING. I WAS TOLD THAT THE COST TO REPLACE THE WEATHER STRIPPING WOULD BE $98.00. I BELIEVE THAT THE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR IS DEFECTIVE, IN THAT IT DOES NOT FULLY RETRACT INTO THE SEAT BELT HOLDER AFTER THE DRIVERS SEAT BELT IS DISENGAGED. *LA
WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS CUT OFF BY ANOTHER VEHICLE, RESULTING IN A COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, SEAT BELTS DID NOT RETRACT, AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. POLICE ARRIVED ON THE SCENE AND THE OTHER DRIVER WAS CITED FOR THE COLLISION. CONSUMER SUSTAINED BRUISES ON CHEST/NECK AND BACK. *AK
AS WITH OTHERS THAT I HAVE READ THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES OVER 60-65 MPH AND STOPS AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THE VECHICLE ALSO PULLS TO THE RIGHT. I HAVE THE ORIGINAL TIRES AND HAVE HAD MY CAR SINCE NEW. I HAVE HAD 2 WHEEL ALIGNMENTS, 2 TIRE ROTATIONS AND ALL TIRES BALANCED. ALL TEMPORARY FIXES. THE PULLING GRADUALLY RETURNED AS DID THE VIBRATION ON THE STEERING WHEEL. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS DRIVER DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE TOOK LONGER TO OPERATE, SO EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE WAS NECESSARY. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THEY FAILED. VEHICLE TOOK LONGER TO STOP,AND IT REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT, CONSUMER CALLED THE DEALER TO VERIFY IF NHTSA RECALL 03V25700 CONCERNING ABS FAILURE APPLIED TO HER VEHICLE. DEALER DENIED IT. THREE WEEKS AFTER THE ACCIDENT CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER ON THE ABS SYSTEM.*AK
AFTER STARTING VEHICLE AIR BAG LIGHT FLASHED FOR ABOUT ONE MINUTE AND THEN TURNED OFF. DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE WIRES UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT BECAME LOOSE, CAUSING THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG TO DEACTIVATE. *AK ABL.PCO
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH ON A SERVICE ROAD RAMP AND WITHOUT WARNING CONSUMER'S VEHICLE HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM BEHIND, CAUSING A COLLISION AND A CHAIN REACTION OF MULTIPLE VEHICLE PILE UP ON THE HIGHWAY. UPON IMPACT, DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO THE HOSPITAL FOR BACK AND NECK INJURIES. *AK
WHILE DRIVING, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT CONTINUED TO BE A PROBLEM, THE DEALER WOULD JUST RESET THE CODE WITHOUT IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM. THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WENT UP AND DOWN BY ITSELF, THE DEALER REPLACED THE MASTER SWITCH, THE BLACK RUBBER STRIPPING WAS MISSING FROM THE DOOR, THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER WAS INOPERATIVE, THE BATTERY FAILED AND WAS REPLACED *JB *NM ABL.PCO
THE VEHICLE'S AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. *NM THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES TO ALLEVIATE THIS PROBLEM BUT WITH NO SUCCESS. THE ONLY WAY THE CONSUMER COULD GET THE LIGHT TO GO OFF WAS TO ADJUST THE SEAT A CERTAIN WAY. DECEMBER 2004 A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR AIR BAG LIGHT ISSUES. T HE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BECAUSE HER VEHICLE WAS TOO OLD. *NM ABL.PCO
BRAKING FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS 70 DOWN TO 50 RESULTS IN SERIOUS VIBRATION AND PULSATION DUE TO OUT OF ROUND DISC BRAKE ROTORS. FEELS LIKE POSSIBLE LOSS OF BRAKING CONTROL. PROBLEM HAS EXISTED SINCE VEHICLE WAS NEW AND CORRECTED ONLY BY MACHINING THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS. ORIGINAL ROTORS MACHINED 3 TIMES IN 65000 MILES. ORIGINAL ROTORS RECENTLY REPLACED WITH NEW OEM PARTS AND PROBLEM OCCURED AGAIN WITHIN 5K MILES. COMPLAINED TO DEALER AND HYUNDAI REGIONAL MANAGER. EXPLANATION WAS THAT ROTORS ARE NOT DEFECTIVE IF OUT OF ROUND AND CONDITION CAN BE CORRECTED BY MACHINING. APPEARS ROTORS ARE UNABLE TO WITHSTAND BRAKING TEMPERATURES AND WARP AS RESULT. QUALITY OF STEEL MATERIAL USED IN MANUFACTURING THE ROTORS APPEARS POOR. HYUNDAI DOES NOT SEEM TO ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEM WITH FLAW IN MANUFACTURING PROCESS.*AK
HIT OTHER CAR GOING ABOUT 45-50MPH. BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS DID NOT DIPLOY. WOULD HAVE HAD 2 FATALITIES IF SEATBELTS WERE NOT WORN.*AK
ABS WARNING LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY FLASHES ON AND STAYS ON WHILE DRIVING. THIS COULD RESULT IN EITHER NONE DEPLOYMENT OR PREMATURE DEPLOYMENT OF AIR BAGS. CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM UNDETERMINED. *AK ABL.PCO
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. THE SEAT BELT WAS WORN, BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CLUTCH PEDAL HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *JB
MY SON IN LAW DIED IN A TWO CAR CRASH [ FRONTAL], HIS AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. BOTH VEHICLES WERE GOING ABOUT 50 MPH. THREE PEOPLE IN OTHER VEHICLE SURVIVED, THEIR AIRBAGS DID DEPLOY. *AK THE SEAT BELT WAS WORN. THE CONSUMER CROSSED OVER A LANE AND POSSIBLY FELL ASLEEP, AND HIT A VAN. *SCC THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE MAY HAVE FALLEN ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL AND DROVE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE POSTED SPEED WAS 55 MPH. THE DRIVE HIT THE FRONT END OF A FULL SIZE CHEVROLET VAN AT AN ESTIMATED SPEED OF 50 MPH. THIS WAS ASSUMED BECAUSE JUST PRIOR TO THE CRASH THE POSTED SPEED WAS 25 MPH. THE DRIVER WAS MOST LIKELY BELTED. ACCORDING TO THE COMPLAINANT, THE CORONER STATED THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A LACERATED AORTA AND A SNAPPED NECK. PHOTOS OF THE VEHICLE SUBMITTED TO ODI SHOW THE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE OFFSET CRASH. DAMAGE TO THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE FRONTAL AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING CONSUMER ENGAGED CRUISE CONTROL AND VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED.*AK
I WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL CRASH OF SUBSTANTIAL PROPORTIONS, AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. DAMAGE EXCESSIVE ENOUGH THAT INSURANCE COMPANY DEEMED THE VEHICLE A TOTAL LOSS. *NLM
AIR BAG LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE EVEN AFTER (4) ATTEMPTS BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE ACTUAL CAUSE HAD NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED. MR ALSO THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED BRAKE PROBLEMS. PH *JB ABL.PCO
IT IS BACK AT EARNHARDTS, FOR THE ELEC. SYSTEM AGAIN 4TH TIME. IT STARTED IN 3/02 AND WENT OUT AGAIN LAST FRI. 6/6/03 BUT THEY DON'T CONSIDER IT A PROBLEM. BECAUSE I FILED A LEMON LAW ON THE PREVIOUS ACCENT AND REPLACED IT WITH THE ELANTRA 2001 AND I FILLED OUT A SURVEY SAYING THEY HAD BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE, THE NORMAL USE OF A RENTAL WHILE THEY FIXED IT FOR DAYS WAS NOT GRANTED. I AM SO UPSET I SPENT A DAY OUT IN THE AZ SUN WAITING FOR A TOW OF 205 MILES TO THE NEXT DEALERSHIP AND THEY TELL ME I HAVE A BAD RECORD WITH THEM AND DON'T DESERVE THE COURTESY OF A RENTAL CAR. THIS IS MY SECOND HYNDAI AND I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE WITH IT AND THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE SENT LETTERS TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, THREE ON MY SIDE, HYNDAI AND EARNHARDTS DEALERSHIP. I WANT OUT OF THIS CAR AND DON'T FEEL SAFE IN IT ANY MORE. I WAS GOING DOWN THE SALT RIVER CANYON (IF YOU ARE NOT FROM AZ PICTURE GOING DOWN THE TWISTING ROAD TO THE GRAND CANYON) WITHOUT ANY POWER STEERING, BRAKES AND TRYING TO KEEP CONTROL OF THE CAR WITH KIDS IN IT. AND THEY TELL ME I SHOULDN'T BE EXCITED! 1 1/2 HRS IN THE SUN WAITING FOR THE TOW, THE NEXT DEALERSHIP 200 MI AWAY, NO RENTAL CARS AUTHORIZED, SO MY HUSBAND HAS TO DRIVE UP AND GET ME (198) MILES FROM MY HOUSE AND GO BACK SO HE COULD BE AT WORK IN 3 HRS. NO SLEEP FOR HIM. THE DATES ARE 3, 4, 6 OF 2002 AND NOW 6/6/03. THE MILEAGE IS 27,694. THE COST IS THEIRS BECAUSE IT HAS THE 100,000 WARRANTY. JUST THE MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ANGUISH AND INCONVIENCE OF ANOTHER CAR THAT WON'T WORK RIGHT NOW.
WE PURCHASED A 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA GT IN SEPT. 01. SINCE THAT TIME, WE'VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE AIR BAG SENSOR TWICE. BOTH TIMES IT WAS FIXED BY THE DEALER. IN OUR ACCIDENT, A 35MPH FRONT END COLLISION, OUR AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WE HAVE REGISTERED A COMPLAINT WITH HYUNDAI, WHO SAYS IT WILL TAKE APPROX. 30 DAYS TO DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT THEY DEEM AN INVESTIGATION NECESSARY. THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT DEAL WITH US, THEY SAY WE NEED TO GO TO HYUNDAI. IN THE MEANTIME, WE ARE LEFT WITH THE CHOICE OF REPAIRING OUR VEHICLE AND HAVING HYUNDAI CLAIM THEY CANNOT MAKE A DETERMINATION OF FAULTY MERCHANDISE BECAUSE OUR VEHICLE WAS FIXED, OR PAYING STORAGE FEES AT THE BODY SHOP AND RENTING A CAR UNTIL HYUNDAI DECIDES. AND, IF HYUNDAI DECIDES THEY WILL NOT DO AN INVESTIGATION, THERE ISN'T EVEN AN APPEAL PROCESS.
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION AND NEITHER OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. *NLM...*AK

THIS HAS OCCURRED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW AND NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE TROUBLE HAVE BEEN FRUITLESS. UNFORTUNATELY THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE WITH MILEAGE UNTIL THE STEERING OR TIRES ARE GOING TO FALL OFF AT 65 MPH. *NLM
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. CONSUMER HAD THE AIR BAG MODULE REPLACED ONCE, AND ANOTHER ONE WAS NEEDED. CONSUMER INADVERTENTLY SPILLED FLUIDS INTO THE MODULE WITHOUT KNOWING THAT THE AIR BAG WAS THERE. *AK ABL.PCO
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WHEN THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE WARNING LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURE FIVE TIMES. THE TOTAL REPAIRS PERFORMED CONSISTED OF REROUTING THE AIR BAG WIRE HARNESS, TIGHTENING THE PIN CONNECTORS AND THE AIR BAG TERMINAL. ALSO, THE AIR BAG MODULE CONNECTOR WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR A RECALL UNDER THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 00V332000 (AIR BAGS: SIDE /WINDOW); HOWEVER, THE REMEDY DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,364. UPDATED 11/11/10 *BF THE IGNITION CYLINDER WOULD NOT TURN AT TIMES. UPDATED 11/18/10*JB THE SEAT TRACK WAS REPLACED DUE TO THE SEAT BEING LOOSE. UPDATED EVOQ 12/10/10*JB
THIS VEHICLE IS HAZARDOUS TO BE ON THE ROAD. IT HAS FRONT END STEERING AND SUSPENSION PROBLEMS. IT HAS A TERRIBLE VIBRATION FROM 35 MPH AND UP. IF TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY THE WHEEL SHAKES SO BADLY THAT YOUR HANDS GO NUMB. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AND REPEATED TIME OVER A TWO AND A HALF YEAR PERIOD, AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS DONE NOTHING. I HAVE ALSO SPOKEN WITH THE MANUFACTURERS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, AND HAVE DONE NOTHING. IT HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT THAT I HAD AN ACCIDENT, BECAUSE OF THESE PROBLEMS. I NOW HAVE A PERMANENT INJURY THAT I WILL LIVE WITH FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, AND THEY STILL DO NOT CARE. I HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN, AND I AM AFRAID EVERY TIME I LEAVE THE HOUSE THAT SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN WITH THIS VEHICLE, AND ONE OF MY CHILDREN GET INJURED. FORTUNATELY, WITH MY ACCIDENT I WAS ALONE. IN MY ACCIDENT MY STEERING LOCKED AND I HIT A STONE EMBANKMENT AT ABOUT 40 MPH WITH THE FRONT END AND MY AIR BAG ALSO DID NOT DEPLOY. UNFORTUNATELY I AM STUCK DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, WHEN IT IS UNSAFE, AND UNFIT TO BE ON THE ROAD. IT IS A HAZARD TO MY FAMILY, AND ALL OTHERS ON THE ROAD WITH ME. I SINCERELY HOPE SOMETHING CAN BE DONE TO THESE DEALERSHIPS, AND MANUFACTURERS TO ENSURE THEY ARE SELLING OUR CONSUMERS A SAFE AND RELIABLE VEHICLE. *LA
CAR DIED JUST DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. 1ST HYUNDAI DEALER TOLD ME MY FUEL WAS DIRTY, NEEDED 1 NEW FUEL INJECTOR AND I SHOULD PAY $330 TO FLUSH THE OTHER 3 INJECTORS. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.I CALLED THE DEALER WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED AND WAS TOLD TO NOT HAVE THEM DO THE FLUSH - GET THE CAR AND BRING IT UP TO THEM. BEFORE I COULD GET IT UP TO THEM, THE CAR DID THE SAME THING WITHIN 72 HOURS AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THEM. THEY TOLD ME I HAD PURCHASED BAD GAS AND ALL 4 FUEL INJ/FUEL RAIL/GAS TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED - $1187. 5-6 WEEKS LATER,SAME THING HAPPENED-OUT OF TOWN AND THEY ARE TELLING ME IT'S MY FAULT AND WILL NOT HELP-NOW ITS $1900 AND HYUNDAI WILL NOT HELP AT ALL. THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT GUARANTEE THE WORK THEY DID 6 WKS AGO. THE CAR IS IN TULSA, I LIVE IN KANSAS CITY AND HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY CAR FOR ABOUT 3 WKS. HYUNDAI WILL NOT LOAN ME A CAR OR HELP ME GET A RENTAL. ALL THEY KEEP TELLING ME IS I KEEP BUYING BAD GAS. THERE IS NO WAY THAT I AM BUYING BAD GAS. I PURCHASE GAS AT THE SAME PLACE AND SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE IN MY FAMILY AND NOONE ELSE IS HAVING PROBLEMS. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY THEM AND DO NOT FEEL THAT THIS IS MY FAULT. I HAVE CALLED REGIONAL OFFICES, ETC AND NO ONE WILL HELP ME. THE IMPRESSION I AM GETTING FROM THE SERVICE MNGR IN TULSA IS THAT THE CAR WAS NOT CORRECTLY FIXED AT MY DEALERSHIP. HE WON'T COME RIGHT OUT AND SAY THAT BUT HE IS IMPLYING THAT MORE SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE - HENCE THE $1900 THIS TIME. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT I CAN DO. I AM NOT LETTING THIS GO. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS WORK AND I'M NOT GOING TO BUDGE.
WHEN THE CONSUMER ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOWS, THEY FAILED TO COME BACK UP, THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE WIRING HARNESS FROM THE WINDOW REGULATOR WAS BAD, AND THERE WAS EXTENSIVE ELECTRICAL WIRING DAMAGE WHICH HAD CORRODED OVER TIME. *PH ALSO THE REAR DEFROSTER WAS INOPERATIVE. *JB. THE CONSUMER ALSO NOTICED THE DASH LIGHTS NO LONGER WORKED AND THE HEADLIGHTS DID NOT FLASH WHEN THE DOOR WAS LOCKED WITH THE KEY PAD.*JB
TRAVELING 35-40 MPH, FRONT END COLLISION, CAR DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS BY INSURANCE COMPANY-FRONT AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. *JB
THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONSUMER HAD TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO RETURN TO NORMAL OPERATION. ALSO, THE VEHICLE STALLED INTERMITTENTLY. *JB
WHEN CAR IS STARTED COLD AND PUT INTO REVERSE, FOOT APPLIED TO THE GAS, THERE IS A PERIOD OF HESITATION BEFORE IT GOES INTO GEAR. AFTER YOU REACH THE POINT TO PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE IT ONCE AGAIN HESITATES CAUSING A "JERKING" FEELING. THE CAR HAS BEEN BROUGHT IN TWICE A MONTH FOR THE PAST 6 MONTHS AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL ON GOING. I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SPOKE WITH CHRIS. HE WAS NO HELP EITHER. HE PROMISED ME OVER AND OVER THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE RESOLVED AND ONCE AGAIN NOTHING WAS DONE. I CONTACTED KEVIN AT THE FUCILLO IMPORT CENTER (THEY SOLD ME THE CAR) HE TOLD ME HIS SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM BUT THEY NEVER ACTUALLY FIXED IT. THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION, SENSORS, VALVES AND OTHER NUMEROUS ITEMS ONLY FOR THE SAME PROBLEM TO REOCCUR. THE GENERAL MANAGER OFFERED TO TRADE ME INTO A USED VEHICLE FOR. I DECLINED. I HAVE PAID LOTS OF MONEY ON THIS CAR WHY WOULD I WANT MORE PROBLEMS??? SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THE CAR I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS!! THE WINDOW PANELS HAVE PEELED NUMEROUS TIMES. THEY HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND STILL PEELED. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS IS DUE TO THE BODY SHOP, I THINK THIS HAS TO DO WITH THE QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT. THE CAR HAS BEEN TAKEN IN TO HAVE THEM REPLACED AND THERE WERE TIMES WHEN THE BODY SHOP WAS NEVER NOTIFIED THE CAR WAS THERE. HENCE THEY WERE NEVER REPLACED. I HAVE TOLD MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE LOOKED INTO TO BUYING A HYUNDAI THAT THEY ARE NOT WORTH THE TIME, MONEY OR AGGRAVATION. I HATE MY CAR!! NEVER AGAIN WILL I DEAL WITH SUCH RUDE, UNQUALIFIED PEOPLE AGAIN! *AK

NAR 02/25/2003. THE CONSUMER HAD A SEZIURE WHILE DRIVING AND AS A REUSLT HE CRASHED INTO 2 TELEPHONE POLES, THE AIR BAGS AND SEAT BELTS PERFORMED AS DESIGNED, HOWEVER THE FIREWALL DEFLECTED 22CM INTO THE CONSUMER LEGS AND SHATTERED THEM. *JB

THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS FAILURE CAUSED AIR BAGS TO FAIL, POWER DOOR LOCKS TO JAM, AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS, RADIO AND CLOCK WORK INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE ALSO EMITTED A BURNING SMELL AT TIMES. *NLM
DURING THE WINTER OF 2002, I BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL, ALONG WITH THE VEHICLE PULLING TO THE RIGHT. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALER WHO, AFTER CHARGING ME FOR A BALANCE AND ROTATION TO "IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM" TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE TIRES AND ALIGNMENT. THE DEALER INSISTED THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM IN THE FRONT END. IN JUNE, 2003 I HAD THE FACTORY MICHELIN'S (WHICH HAD ABOUT 32,00 MILES WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTED) REPLACED WITH NEW TIRES AND A FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENT. THE PULLING IS GONE, BUT THE VIBRATION REMAINS. IT IS PARTICULALRY NOTICEABLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. THE SEAT BELT WAS WORN, BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CLUTCH PEDAL HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *JB THE REAR STRUTS HAD GONE OUT AND LEAKED. *SCC *JB
I WAS IN AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT IN MY 2001 HYUNDAI ELANTRA ON 12/15/01. I WAS WEARING MY SEATBELT WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURED. THE AIRBAG LIGHT WENT ON BUT THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I WAS INFORMED ON 12/22/02 THAT A FRIEND OF THE FAMILY, DRIVING THE SAME YEAR/MAKE AND MODEL HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE SAME THING OCCURED.

WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY HE APPLY HIS BRAKES TO STOP. BUT IN THE PROCESS HE A ATTACK AND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. TS
SINCE NEW, OUR 2001 ELANTRA HAS HAD AN INTERMITTENT "THUMPING" SOUND IN THE REAR WHEELS WHILE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. IT WOULD GO AWAY FOR MONTHS, THEN RETURN, USUALLY AFTER SOME MAINTENANCE EVENT SUCH AS A TIRE ROTATION. INTERNET SEARCHES REVEAL THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON COMPLAINT. PEOPLE HAVE REPLACED ALL SORTS OF PARTS; WHEEL BEARING, SUSPENSION PARTS ETC., USUALLY WITH NO FIX. I FOUND THE CAUSE, AND THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL !! ON OUR MODEL, THE WHEEL NUTS ARE "CLOSED", MEANING THAT THEY ARE NOT DRILLED AND TAPPED ALL THE WAY THOUGH. ON OUR CAR, SOME OF THE WHEEL NUTS BOTTOM OUT ON THE WHEEL STUDS BEFORE THE BRAKE DRUM IS SECURED. WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED, THE RESULTING LOOSE BRAKE DRUM CAN "WOBBLE" ON THE STUDS, MAKING THE SOUND,. ANOTHER ISSUE CONTRIBUTING TO THE PROBLEM: THERE IS ONE PHILLIPS SCREW WHICH SECURES THE BRAKE DRUM TO THE HUB. IN MY CASE THIS SCREW WAS MISSING, PROBABLY HAVING BEEN LEFT OFF DURING A SAFETY INSPECTION. HOWEVER, IF THE NUTS WERE NOT BOTTOMED OUT, THE DRUM WOULD BE SECURE EVEN IF THE SCREW IS MISSING. IT WOULD SEEM THAT THIS CONDITION COULD EVENTUALLY LEAD TO STUD FAILURE. AT THE VERY LEAST, IT IS A SERIOUS AGGRAVATION. PROBABLY THE LEAST EXPENSIVE WAY TO FIX THIS WOULD BE TO REPLACE THE WHEEL NUTS WITH ONES THAT ARE DEEPER, ALLOWING MORE CLEARANCE FOR THE END OF THE WHEEL STUD.
THE BRAKE ROTOR OVERHEATED, WHICH CAUSED A GRINDING NOISE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. MR *TT *JB

DEALER FOUND ROTORS WERE WARPED DUE TO OVERHEATING AND BRAKE PADS HAD TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER PROBLEM REOCCURED. TRANSMISSION DID NOT SHIFT PROPERLY AND REVVED AT A HIGH RPM BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD AND BUCKED BEFORE SHIFTING. *TT ABL.PCO
SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK IN THE VERY COLD, SOMETIMES YOUR DRIVING FOR UP TO 20 MINUTES WITH NO SPEEDOMETER. ITS BEEN TO THE DEALER AT LEAST 4 TIMES. ONCE THE TEMPERATURE GOES UP THE SPEEDOMETER WORKS. THEY'VE REPLACED A SENSOR, A CABLE, AND THE LAST TIME THEY PUT A NEW SPEEDOMETER IN. WHEN IT'S COLD THE NEW ONE DOES NOT WORK EITHER. WE LEFT IT WITH THEM FOR 4 DAYS, BUT BECAUSE THE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOVE FREEZING THEY COULDN'T SEE IT NOT WORKING SO THEY COULD NOT FIX IT. MY DAUGHTER GOES TO SCHOOL IN PHILADELPHIA(SHE DRIVES IT) SO IT WORKS LESS WHEN SHE'S HOME IN VERNON, NJ. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT A SIMILAR PROBLEM. THERE'S COLDER STATES THEN NEW JERSEY. HYUNDAI DOESN'T SEEM TO HAVE A CLUE. THERE WAS NOT A SPECIFIC INCIDENT DATE, IT BEGAN NOT WORKING IN THE WINTER OF 2002 WHEN IT HAD JUST ABOUT 10,000 MILES ON IT. *AK

CONSUMER STATES THAT WHEN HIT AT 35 MPH IN THE FRONT CENTER OF THE VEHICLE THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY CAUSING MINOR INJURIES TO THE CONSUMER. DEALER NOTIFIED. MR
THE AIR CONDITIONER DID NOT WORK. THERE WAS ALSO AN ODOR COMING INSIDE THE VEHICLE FROM THE VENTS WHEN THE A/C WAS TURNED ON. THE DEALER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE 8 TIMES BUT COULD NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. *NLM
AS I APPLIED THE BRAKES ON A WET ROAD SURFACE, THE BRAKES LOCKED AND I HYDROPLANED. IN AN ATTEMPT TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE, I SWERVED AND SLAMMED INTO A UTILITY POLE. THE CAR HIT THE POLE JUST A FEW INCHES OFF DEAD CENTER, CAUSING SUCH SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE CAR IT HAS SINCE BEEN TOTALLED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. IN THE ACCIDENT I SUSTAINED NECK, BACK, MOUTH AND HAND INJURIES. NONE OF THE 4 FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. DT
