MY 2013 ELANTRA (APPX. 54K MILES) BEGAN MAKING NOISES WHEN TURNING WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN STALLING. TWICE THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION AND SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON LOCAL STREETS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN FEBRUARY 2017 AND THEY INDICATED THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE CAR AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT HAD BEEN LESS THAN 5K MILES SINCE THE LAST OIL CHANGE. THE REPAIRS AND RENTAL ARE BOTH COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. AFTER REPLACING THE ENGINE AND A FEW OTHER PARTS, I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS READY FOR PICKUP IN MARCH 2017. I GOT IN THE CAR AND NOTICED A NOISE. THE ADVISOR AND TECH SAID ITS BECAUSE OF A NEW PUMP AND WILL GO AWAY AFTER DRIVING A FEW MILES. IMMEDIATELY AFTER DRIVING OFF AND ENTERING THE HIGHWAY I HEARD A DRAGGING NOISE AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TURNED AROUND AND WENT BACK TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE AND PLACED ME IN ANOTHER RENTAL. IT IS NOW MAY 2017 AND THE CAR IS STILL IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THE ENGINE HAS BEEN REPLACE TWICE AND OTHER PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACE MULTIPLE TIMES AS WELL. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT HYUNDAI HAS SENT OUT AN ENGINEER TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. AT THIS POINT IT APPEARS THEY DO NOT KNOW THE PROBLEM AND/OR CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I AM NO LONGER CONFIDENT IN THE SAFETY OF MY CAR AND HYUNDAI VEHICLES OVER ALL.
DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT WILL NOT FASTEN. AIR CONDITIONER IS NOT WORKING, CAR BLOWING HOT AIR.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT AROUND 70MPH I HEARD A LOUD BANG UPON LOOKING AROUND REALIZED MY SUNROOF HAD BLOWN OUTWARD FROM THE CENTER. I KNOW NOTHING HIT IT FROM THE INSIDE AND NOTHING FELL ON TOP OF IT EITHER. I WAS LEFT DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WITH A LARGE HOLE IN THE MIDDLE OF MY SUNROOF WITH CRACKED GLASS ALL ALONG THE SIDES. *TR
THE ENGINE OF MY 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA GLS FAILED TO START THE MORNING OF 1/3/17 WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. I TURNED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION NUMEROUS TIMES WITHOUT SUCCESS. THE DASH LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE, BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T START OR EVEN TRY TO TURN OVER. AFTER APPX. 15 ATTEMPTS, IT FINALLY STARTED. I BOUGHT A NEW BATTERY HOPING THAT WOULD FIX PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM REPEATED ON 1/18/17, AGAIN WHILE PARKED IN DRIVEWAY. AFTER ROUGHLY 50 ATTEMPTS TO START THE CAR AND TRYING TO WIGGLE THE GEAR SHIFT, IT FINALLY STARTED. I THEN DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND LEFT THE CAR WITH THEM OVERNIGHT. THE FOLLOWING DAY I WAS ADVISED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT SINCE THEY COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR TRIGGER ANY DIAGNOSTIC CODES, THEY COULD NOT REPAIR IT OR REPLACE ANY PARTS. FORTUNATELY, TO DATE I HAVE BEEN IN SAFE PLACES DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS WHEN MY CAR FAILED TO START. HOWEVER, I MAY NOT ALWAYS BE SO FORTUNATE AND COULD POSSIBLY BE STRANDED IN A VERY VULNERABLE LOCATION IN THE FUTURE. OUT OF THE 430 COMPLAINTS LISTED AGAINST THE 2013 ELANTRA ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE, ROUGHLY 7% OF THE OWNERS REPORTED EXPERIENCING THIS IDENTICAL PROBLEM. A FURTHER SEARCH OF THE INTERNET REVEALS MANY, MANY MORE SUCH COMPLAINTS. ONE MIGHT BELIEVE THAT COULD INDICATE THE EXISTENCE OF A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM; YET, IT DOES NOT APPEAR THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAS ISSUED ANY RECALLS OR SERVICE BULLETINS SPECIFIC TO MY VEHICLE MODEL TO ADDRESS/FIX THIS ENGINE FAILURE.
AFTER 50K MILES THE CAR STARTED TO IDLE ROUGH. CHANGED SPARK PLUGS, AIR FILTER, ETC. STILL RAN ROUGH. CAR NOW STALLS OUT WHEN STOPPED IN TRAFFIC, AND LATELY WILL NOT ACCELERATE UP TO SPEED FROM A STOPPED POSITION TOO WELL. STARTED TO HEAR A 'CLICKING' NOISE THAT IS SYNCED WHEN I PRESS THE GAS. THE VEHICLE IS NOW STALLING WHEN I PUT IT IN REVERSE AS WELL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT NOTICED A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PRESTIGE HYUNDAI (768 E CHESTER ST, KINGSTON, NY 12401, (845) 339-3313) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOWER BEARING IN THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,000.
AT 60K MILES, A KNOCKING SOUND CAME FROM THE ENGINE AFTER ROUGH IDLING. THE ENGINE OIL NOW HAS METAL SHAVINGS. DEALERSHIP DENIED THAT THERE HAVE EVER BEEN PROBLEMS. NEVER MISSED AN OIL CHANGE. TRYING TO GET DEALER TO COVER UNDER WARRANTY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT OBSERVED AN ABNORMAL SOUND FROM THE ENGINE AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
IT WAS JAN 8, 2017 AND IT HAD BEEN RAINING. MY SON WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND HE HYDROPLANED ON THE FREEWAY GOING 55-60 MPH. THE VEHICLE DID A 90 DEGREE TURN ON THE FREEWAY AND HIT A GUARD RAIL. BOTH MY SON AND GRAND DAUGHTER HAD WHIPLASH BUT NO OTHER VISIBLE SIGNS. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I OPENED A CLAIM WITH HYUNDAI. THEY SENT AN PRIVATE INSPECTOR AND HYUNDAI DETERMINED THAT THE AIR BAGS SHOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED (SEE ATTACHED)
O2 SENSOR NEEDS RECALIBRATION
SIDE BRAKE LIGHTS WENT OUT AND OVERHEATED MELTING AND CRACKING THE LENS. THIS IS A DEFECT THAT COSTS 560.00. DOESN'T MAKE SENSE THAT A VEHICLE WITH THIS TYPE OF LIGHT DOESN'T HAVE A SAFETY MECHANISM TO WARN THE DRIVER. NEEDS TO BE RECALLED.
AIRBAG LIGHT WENT OFF AT ABOUT 80 THOUSAND MILES AND HAS BEEN ON EVER SINCE
THE CAR ACCELERATES WITHOUT MY INTENTION. I CAN BE DRIVING MY CAR AND THE (STREET OR HWY IN MOTION) WHILE DRIVING THE CAR/ENGINE ACCELERATES. I WAS IN DISBELIEF BUT AFTER IT HAPPENED SO MANY TIMES, REMOVING MY FOOT FROM THE PEDAL AND STILL HEARING THE ACCELERATION, IT FREAKS ME OUT. SCARES ME TO DEATH.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH BRAKE LIGHT BULBS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SEVEN TIMES TO HAVE THE BRAKE LIGHT BULBS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. WENT ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. IS NOW ALMOST ALWAYS ON, BUT ON RARE OCCASIONS WILL TURN OFF ONLY TO COME BACK ON LATER. 77000 MILES ON CAR, SO NOT IN WARRANTY. SYMPTOMS SEEM SIMILAR TO EARLIER RECALL OF HYUNDAI VEHICLES FOR DEFECTIVE CLOCK SPRINGS.
2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLES STALLING FOR A FEW SECONDS IN LOWER GEARS WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE. *LD UPDATED 11/22/2017*JS
I AM REPLACING BRAKE LIGHT BULBS A LITTLE TO OFTEN I BELIEVE. AND WHEN I CONTACT HYUNDAI THEY SAID THEIRS NO RECALLS SO MAYBE ITS ELECTRICAL ISSUE THAT THEY HAVEN'T DISCOVERED YET. WELL OBVIOUSLY BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T BE HAPPENING TO MY CAR SO OFTEN. BUT AFTER REPLACING THE BRAKE LIGHT BULBS MAYBE GOING ON 6 TIMES NOW MY FIRST HEADLIGHT SOCKET BURNT OUT I WENT TO AUTO ZONE AND BOUGHT A REPLACEMENT ONE. I AM CURIOUS AM I THE ONLY ONE HAVING THESE PROBLEMS ??? *TR
ABOUT 4 TIMES PER YEAR, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. I MUST USE THE SHIFT RELEASE BUTTON AND THIS TAKES AWHILE TO WORK. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN WHEN THE CAR IS IDLING IN A PARKING LOT, PARKED AT A DRIVE-THRU, TRYING TO LEAVE A PARKING LOT. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 12 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE. THE FIRST OCCASION WAS AROUND 1,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER.
INTERMITTENTLY WILL NOT TURN OVER. BATTERY IS FINE. INHIBITOR SWITCH WAS CHANGED, ALL RECALLS PERFORMED. HAD THE CAR TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES AND THEY CANNOT REPLICATE. HAD IT TOWED THERE LAST TIME. IF YOU FIDDLE WITH THE SHIFTER, AND KEY LONG ENOUGH (10 MINUTES OR SO, IT WILL EVENTUALLY TURN OVER AND START AS NORMAL. THERE HAS BEEN NO HELP ON THIS, AND THE DEALER KEEPS CHARGING FOR DIAGNOSTICS, EVEN THOUGHT THE VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE EXTREMELY MORE PREVALENT IN THE WINTER OR WHEN THE TEMP IS BELOW 35 DEGREES F.
WHILE DRIVING UP OVER A MOUNTAIN PASS THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED WARNING LIGHTS WERE LIT AND THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT LIT. I STOPPED AND CHECKED THE TIRES. THE RIGHT REAR TIRE HAD A HOLE IN THE SIDEWALL. THERE WAS NO IMPACT WITH ANY VEHICLE OR HILLSIDE. THIS ROAD HAS QUITE A FEW TURNS AND IS A NARROW TWO LANE MOUNTAIN PASS. ( GATES PASS, TUCSON ARIZONA. *TR
REAR TIRES GO BALD PREMATURELY AND FRONT TIRES WEAR ON THE INBOARD SIDE PREMATURELY AND THE FRONT TIRE ARE REAL PRONE TO SIDE WALL BULGING. I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH 37,417 MILES AND IT NOW HAS 66,388 MILES AND I'VE BEEN MADE TO PURCHASE THREE SETS OF TIRES SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE US CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE FORCED INTO PAYING FOR DEFECTS LIKE THIS
IN NOVEMBER OF 2016 NOTICE CAR BEGAN TO HESITATE AND COMING HOME FROM A DRIVE THE VEHICLE DIED IN FRONT OF HOUSE. TOOK TO HYUNDAI VACAVILLE AND THEY STATED IT WAS A COMPUTER PROBLEM. UPDATE APPLIED, DROVE HOME AND NOTICED TICKING FROM ENGINE. DROVE TO WORK AND NOTICED LOWER GAS MILEAGE AND CONTINUED TICKING. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THIS TIME IT WAS THE FUEL INJECTORS AND TO PUT IN CLEANER. DROVE HOME AND THEN TO WORK AND NOTICED TICKING GETTING LOUDER. TOOK THE CAR BACK TO DEALER AND THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UNFORTUNATELY, I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND HAD TO PAY FOR IT OUT OF POCKET WITH A RE MANUFACTURED FACTORY ENGINE WHICH WAS INSTALLED AROUND 12/23/2016. SINCE THEN STILL NOTICE A TICKING WITH NEW ENGINE AFTER PUTTING ABOUT 40,000 MILES ON IT AND CONCERNED THAT I WAS PROVIDED WITH A BAD ENGINE AGAIN. I KEEP UP WITH MAINTENANCE AS I DID WITH THE FIRST ENGINE WITH OIL CHANGES EVERY 3,000 MILES INSTEAD OF THE THE RECOMMENDED 7,500. I HAVE NOTICED MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF OWNERS OF MODEL YEAR 2013 WITH SIMILAR ISSUES. THE FAILURE WITH THE FIRST ENGINE WAS AT 127, 565 WHICH I BELIEVE SHOULD STILL NOT HAVE HAPPENED AS I HAVE A 2010 ACCENT WITH 180,000 AND NO PROBLEMS, AND HAD SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES THAT WENT BEYOND 200,000 WITH NO ISSUES. I NOTICED THE TICKING NOISE BACK THEN TO BE PRONOUNCED WHEN ACCELERATING UP HILL AND WITH CURRENT ENGINE USUALLY HAVE TO WARM IT UP SO THAT WHEN I DRIVE I DO NOT HEAR ANY TICKING.
REAR SIGNAL AND TAIL LIGHTS FREQUENTLY BECOME LOOSE IN LAMP SOCKETS AND FAIL TO PROPERLY FUNCTION. LIGHT FIXTURES MUST BE ACCESSED TO RESET THE LAMP, BULB. VEHICLE ONLY HAS ABOUT 57,000 MILES AND THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FROM AROUND 34,000 MILES. 3 EACH TAIL LIGHT AND 1 LICENSE PLATE LIGHT HAVE ALSO BURNED OUT AND WERE REPLACED. SAME PROBLEM CONTINUES WITH BULBS LOOSENING UP AT FREQUENT INTERVALS. OCCURS AT ANY PERIOD, STOPPED OR IN MOTION.
REAR SUSPENSION IS UNSETTLING. FIRST OFF, THE CAR DESTROYS TIRES IN A RELATIVELY SHORT TIME. SECOND, OVER BUMPY TERRAIN THE CAR'S REAR SHAKES BACK AND FORTH LIKE IT'S TRYING TO STEER ITSELF. THIRD, WHEN IT'S ICY OR SLIPPERY AND THE ROAD SURFACE ISN'T SMOOTH THE REAR OF THE CAR TRIES TO SWING OUT WHEN ONE SIDE HAS GRIP AND THE OTHER DOESN'T.
FROM DAY ONE THE SUSPENSION ALWAYS SEEMED MUSHY OR SOFT. WHEN DRIVING OVER UNEVEN PAVEMENT, THE CAR SEEMS TO EXPERIENCE LATERAL GLIDING OR SWAYING. AT HIGHWAY SPEED IT CAN FEEL LIKE YOU'RE GOING TO SHIFT INTO THE ADJACENT LANE.
THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS LOW SO I TOOK THE CAR TO MY TIRE DEALER ONLY TO DISCOVER THAT ALL OEM NEXEN TIRES HAD CRACKS BETWEEN THE TREADS BOTH HORIZONTALLY AND VERTICALLY. EACH TIRE HAS A DIFFERENT DOT CODE SO I HAVE ONLY SUBMITTED ONE COMPLAINT. THE CAR HAS 8940 MILES ON IT AND IS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA GT. I CALLED NEXEN WARRANTY DEPARTMENT AND NO ONE ANSWERED SO I LEFT A MESSAGE. I ALSO, WROTE THEM AND EMAIL AND AM WAITING FOR A RESPONSE.
MY CAR DRIVES FUNNY OVER THE ROAD AND ON HILL AND STEERING REALLY FEELS BAD LIKE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CAR THIS IS DRIVING IN MY TOWN. I JUST BROUGHT THE CAR FOM THE DEALER WHAT CAN I DO?
PUSH BUTTON START. CAR WILL NOT START RIGHT AWAY AFTER DEPRESSING THE START BUTTON. WHEN START BUTTON IS DEPRESSED, INDICATING LIGHTS ON THE DASH WILL ILLUMINATE, AND APPROXIMATELY 10 SECOND LATER, THE RADIO AND THE AIR CONDITIONING WILL KICK IN. AT THIS POINT I HAVE APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS TO ATTEMPT TO START THE CAR AND 75% OF THE TIME THE CAR WILL START; OTHERWISE, I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND ATTEMPT TO RESTART AGAIN. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS NOW. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM AS THE CAR STARTED FOR THEM EVERY TIME APPARENTLY AND COULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO SOLVE MY ISSUE, EVEN THOUGH THEY ADMITTEDLY TIGHTENED UP TERMINALS FOR THE BATTERY. THE CAR SEEMED TO START EVERY SINGLE TIME FOR ABOUT A WEEK AFTER THE VISIT, AND NOW IT'S DOING IT AGAIN. CALLED HYUNDAI AND THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT ISSUE. I'VE RESORTED TO TAKING VIDEO TO HELP DESCRIBE THE ISSUE TO TECHNICIANS, AND THE LATEST DEALERSHIP BASICALLY TOLD ME THAT THEY STILL WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO USE MY VIDEO BUT WOULD HAVE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM THEMSELVES. THIS IS GOING TO BE REALLY BAD IF I'M STUCK IN SOMEWHERE BECAUSE MY CAR WON'T START AND HYUNDAI CLAIMING THEY CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
CAR SMOKES HEAVILY LIKE EVERY 10,000 MILES WHEN ACCELERATING FAST AND SUDDENLY, LIKE WHEN GOING ON THE FREEWAY ON RAMP OR TRYING TO OVERPASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. IT BLOWS A HUGE , BIG , WHITE CLOUD OF SMOKE THAT IMPAIRS VISIBILITY OF OTHER DRIVERS. IT IS A HAZARD AGAINST SAFETY AND CONTAMINETS THE ENVIROMENT . OIL LEVEL SEEMS TO BE FINE BETWEEN SERVICES. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE NEW. AT 7000 MILES, 15000 MILES AND TODAY AT 40,000 MILES . THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINS ABOUT THAT. ON OR ABOUT 10/20/2016 MY CAR ALL OF A SUDDEN WOULD NOT START, I WAS WORKING OUT IN THE FIELD WENT INTO A PATIENTS HOME AND THE CAR AS I TURNED THE IGNITION KEY, NOTHING HAPPENED. THE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND OFF. CALLED LUTES KIA FOR SERVICE. THEY SAID IT WAS BATTERY PUT NEW BATTERY IN. THE NEXT DAY THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED WOULD NOT START, CALLED LUTES KIA AFTER SEVERAL DAYS I WAS TOLD THEY WERE NOT SURE WHAT WAS WRONG AND REPLACED THE STARTER. I GET MY CARS OIL CHANGED EVERY 3000 MILES, KEEP UP ON MY MAINTENANCE. ELECTRICAL IS AFFECTED SOMETHING KEEPS SHORTING OUT HEAD LIGHTS/ TAIL LIGHTS. I HAVE RECEIPTS AND SERVICE ORDERS. IT LOSES POWER ON LOAD AND IS VERY UNSTABLE. I HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE OF THE HEADLIGHTS AND TURNS ON WHEN IT WANTS TO.
STEERING , WILL OVER STEER AT TIME'S. FEEL'S AS IF POWER STEERING PRESSURE DROP'S , MAKING STEERING WHEEL TIGHT TO TURN. AND WHEN IT COME'S BACK THE CAR TENDS TO OVER STEER.
MY AIRBAG LIGHT WAS OFF AND ON FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND NOW IT IS A STEADY LIGHT. THE REPAIR SHOP I TOOK IT TO SAID I NEEDED A CLOCK SPRING AND A NEW DRIVER AIR BAG. THEY ALSO SAID I MIGHT NEED ANOTHER PART. TOTAL COST OF ALL OF THIS WILL BE AROUND $1600. SINCE MY CAR HAS OVER 100,000 MILES, IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I'VE NOTICED OTHER PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE AIRBAG LIGHT.

THE DEALER (HYUNDAI PALATINE IN PALATINE, IL) WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
1. AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN TURNING ON. NO APPARENT REASON BUT I WAS TOLD THAT IF IN AN ACCIDENT WILL NOT DEPLOYED. SINCE 10/12/2016 2. SUSPENSION IS NOT THE GREATEST, CAR WILL SWIRLED SOMETIMES IF EXCEEDING 40MPH HELLO I LIVE IN PUERTO RICO THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS 40MPH IN OUR ROADS... 3. TIRE SENSORS ARE CONSTANTLY BRAKING. 4. FRONT HEADLIGHTS SEEMS GET HUMIDITY WHEN IT RAINS OR GET TOO COLD. 5. BRAKES SOMETIMES DO NOT WORK AS THEY SHOULD, I STOP AND IT SEEMS TO KEEP GOING I WOULD HAVE TO BRAKE AGAIN TO MAKE IT STOP AND THESE IS NOT GOING MORE THAN 40 MPH.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING - PARKING LIGHTS TURNING ON WHILE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND PARKED. USUALLY HAPPENS OVERNIGHT WHEN THE TEMPERATURE DROPS CLOSE TO OR BELOW FREEZING. ALSO HEADLIGHTS TURNING OFF ON THEIR OWN WHILE CAR IS RUNNING AND TURN SIGNALS ARE USED. HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP LOOKED AT CAR THREE TIMES AND COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, AND THE ONLY PARTS THEY REPLACED WERE A SWITCH INHIBITOR (PART 42700-26500) AND A NEW CAR BATTERY. NONE OF THIS CORRECTED THE ISSUE AND THEY DON'T HAVE A SOLUTION FOR US OTHER THAN TO COMPLAIN TO HYUNDAI. THIS LEAVES US WITH A CAR THAT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT AND WITH A CONSTANT DEAD CAR BATTERY. THE HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE CASE NUMBER WE HAVE IS 9687427, AND SO FAR THEY HAVE NO SOLUTION FOR US AND HAVE NOT CONTACTED US BACK FOR WEEKS NOW.
VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND LACK OF DIGITAL ENGINE TEMPERATURE GAUGE ALERTED DRIVER TO ISSUE. UPON INSPECTION AT AUTHORIZED HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER, IT WAS NOTED THAT RODENTS HAD GNAWED THROUGH WIRING AND CONNECTORS LOCATED IN THE ENGINE BAY. PER SERVICE CENTER'S RECOMMENDATION, VEHICLE WAS CONSIDERED UNSAFE TO DRIVE, AND VEHICLE WAS LEFT AT SERVICE CENTER PENDING APPROPRIATE REPAIRS/REPLACEMENTS. IT WAS NOTED THAT THE WIRES THAT WERE CHEWED THROUGH WERE COATED WITH SOY-BASED MATERIALS INSTEAD OF PLASTIC WHICH HAD BEEN USED IN EARLIER MODELS. SERVICE CENTER CLAIMS TO SEE THIS ISSUE AT LEAST A FEW TIMES PER MONTH. RODENT DETERRENT TAPE IS BEING PURCHASED FROM HONDA (WHO ALREADY ACKNOWLEDGES THIS ISSUE AND IS CURRENT THE SUBJECT OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT). TAPE WILL BE WRAPPED AROUND WIRES FOLLOWING REPAIRS.
ENGINE FAILURE. ZERO COMPRESSION CYLINDER #1. SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE PURCHASE ON 10/18/2016. ALSO, TIRE PRESSURE PROBLEM, ESC LIGHT COMES ON, DASHBOARD GAUGES INOPERATIVE. FUEL MILEAGE BELOW WHAT IS ADVERTISED. NEITHER HUNDAI NOR ENTERPRISE WILL FIX THE PROBLEM AFTER REPEATED DEMANDS. ALSO, THERE IS A RECALL REGARDING "STOPPER PAD" AND STOP LAMP SWITCH. BOUGHT VEHICLE, CASH, FROM ENTERPRISE CAR SALES IN MONTCLAIR, CA. IT WAS A "CERTIFIED" USED CAR, SUPPOSEDLY. IMMEDIATELY I NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE SOUNDED "TINNY". SOUNDED LIKE A SEWING MACHINE, IT WAS KNOCKING. ALSO, WHEN I LIFTED THE OIL STICK, SMOKE CAME OUT OF ENGINE. THIS WAS WITHIN 2 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE. THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST COMPRESSION ON INTERSTATE 10 IN APRIL, 2015. I TOLD BOTH HYUNDAI AND ENTERPRISE WHO IGNORED MY COMPLAINTS. FINALLY, AFTER SEVERAL COMPLAINTS AND THREATS, ENTERPRISE TOOK THE CAR IN AND SENT IT TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHO CLAIMED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. THE CAR BEGAN LOSING POWER AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER, 2016 AND FINALLY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET IN ARCADIA, CA. NO COMPRESSION. IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO MY HOUSE. I TOOK IT TO PRIVATE SHOP WHO SAID "ZERO COMPRESSION IN CYLINDER #1, POSSIBLE BURNED OUT VALVE '. SEE ATTACHED. CALLED HYINDAI AND ENTERPRISE AGAIN. BOTH DENIED RESPONSIBILITY, AND REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING. I HAVE TO NOW PAY OVER $1,000 TO GET ENGINE REBUILT. THIS CAR IS A LEMON AND I AM ENTTIED TO REFUND OR A NEW CAR.

THE PANORAMIC ROOF SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. ON I-495, THE BELTWAY AROUND DC, THE ROOF SHATTERED WHILE DRIVING AT ~65 MPH. IT SOUNDED LIKE A STARTLING SHOTGUN BLAST FOLLOWED BY FALLING GLASS AND LOUD WIND NOISE. THE ONLY BARRIER BETWEEN ME, THE DRIVER, AND LARGE SHARDS OF BROKEN GLASS WAS THE INNER ROOF SHIELD, WHICH WAS FORTUITOUSLY CLOSED, OTHERWISE THE SHATTERED GLASS UNEXPECTEDLY FALLING ON MY HEAD/CUTTING ME WHILE DRIVING WOULD LIKELY LEAD TO MY FACE, HEAD AND ARMS BEING CUT, A HIGHWAY COLLISION OR WORSE, A MULTI-CAR COLLISION.
AROUND 40,000 MILES THE CAR RANDOMLY WOULD NOT START, LEAVING ME STRANDED. I TOOK THE CAR IN SEVERAL TIMES AND DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DETECT AN ISSUE. 2ND TIME I DROPPED OFF, A MISFIRE WAS DETECTED AND IGNITION COILS WHERE REPLACED DUE TO DEFECTED COILS. I PICKED UP MY CAR AND 11 DAYS LATER THE CAR WOULDN'T START UP AGAIN. ITS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 3 WEEKS NOW. LAST I HEARD THEY ARE REPLACING: THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY, TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH, AND BRAKE SWITCH. I HAVE YET TO HEAR IF THE PARTS CAME IN AND IF THIS WILL FIX THE ISSUE. I RECEIVED A CALL ON 11/3/2016 AND NOW THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THE CAR FAILING TO START AND HYUNDAI CANT EVEN FIGURE IT OUT, AS OF TODAY THEY HAD MY CAR FOR A TOTAL OF 25 DAYS AND STILL NO RESOLUTION. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE AND RECALLED. IVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS DIRECTLY AND HAVE A CASE WITH THEM GOING ON. I SEE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE HAPPENING ON THIS MODEL, I HOP THIS WILL SOMEWHAT HELP. BE CONSISTENT AND DON'T TAKE NO FOR ANSWER, I AM STILL MAKING CAR PAYMENTS ON SOMETHING THAT IS NOT WORKING NOR I HAVE IS UNFAIR. SINCE THE CAR IS LESS THAN 60,000 MILES THIS WILL BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, IT SHOULD OF HAD TO TAKE ME 3 TIMES, CALLING A MANGER AND GOING TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS FOR THEM TO FINALLY TAKE MY ISSUE SERIOUS.

IT ALSO TURNS ON AND OFF WHILE THE VEHICLE IS NOT IN MOTION. I BELIEVE THIS IS A MAJOR SECURITY ISSUE BECAUSE IF I AM INVOLVED IN A MAJOR CAR CRASH AND THE AIRBAGS ARE NOT ON THEN I WILL NOT BE SECURED.
THE VEHICLE FISHTALES AND MISHANDLES ON THE HIGHWAY ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS 40-60. I HAVE TO GRIP THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHT TO HAVE SAFE CONTROL. AT TIMES IT IS A WHITEKNUCKLING EXPERIENCE. I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR 7 WEEKS AGO. THE DEALER HAS REASSURED ME ON 3 VISITS TO SERVICE THAT IT IS SAFE. HOWEVER THERE IS SOMETHING DEFECT WITH THIS VEHICLE AND I DONT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT.
SEPT. 2ND, 2016, MY 26-YR-OLD DAUGHTER (AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER) LEFT WORK, APPROACHED A "T" COUNTRY ROAD INTERSECTION AT MODERATE SPEED, ON A SOMEWHAT ROUGH ROAD, AND APPLIED BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN. NOTHING HAPPENED - THE CAR DID NOT SLOW. THE CAR DROVE ACROSS THE INTERSECTION INTO A FARMYARD. SHE PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, BUT IT DID NOT STOP THE CAR. IT SKIDDED, BUT SHE WAS ABLE TO STEER AROUND A WOOD PILE AND AVOID TREES. CAR STOPPED WHEN IT CRASHED INTO A DIRT MOUND. THIS WAS TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. BUMPER WAS RUINED, AND THERE IS DAMAGE IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT. NO FIRE OR INJURIES. NO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, WHO NEXT DAY DROVE CAR AROUND DEALERSHIP LOT AND FOUND NO BRAKE PROBLEM. CRASH DAMAGE MADE CAR NOT ROAD-WORTHY TO TEST BRAKES AT HIGHER SPEED. CAR HAS ABOUT 42,200 MILES ON IT. BACK IN MID-SUMMER, THE DEALER HAD REPAIRED A PROBLEM THAT APPARENTLY WAS BRAKE STOPPER RECALL-RELATED (A LATE-AUGUST RECALL). WE REPORTED THE FAILURE AND CRASH TO HYUNDAI AMERICA.
WHEN DRIVING IN RAIN FOR AWHILE, THEN GENTLY COME TO STOP, GET A BRAKE NOISE THAT SHOULDN'T BE THERE AND WHOLE CAR VIBRATES. NOT GOING THROUGH PUDDLES OR STANDING WATER. THIS HAS HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES. I DISCUSSED IT WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AT OUR DEALERSHIP, AND HE ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE, AND THAT HYUNDAI DID AS WELL, BUT SAID THERE IS NO SOLUTION CURRENTLY. THE STOPPING POWER IS NOT GOOD WHEN THIS HAPPENS. AFTER IT DRIES, THEN THE BRAKES FUNCTION NORMAL. DEALERSHIP SAID NEW PADS AND ROTOR MIGHT HELP, BUT WASN'T A WARRANTY ISSUE. THERE IS A PROBLEM AND IT SHOULD BE FIXED! THIS COULD BE A PROBLEM THAT GETS SOMEONE KILLED. ALSO, I FIND THAT OTHER HYUNDAI OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME BRAKE PROBLEM. *TR

THE CAR DECELERATED, I WAS UNABLE TO STEER AND THE TIRES SCREECHED ON THE GROUND. I WAS ABLE TO PUSH THE ESC OFF BUTTON AND RECOVER CONTROL OF THE CAR, AVOIDING THE CRASH. I KNEW ABOUT THE OFF BUTTON ONLY BECAUSE WE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM SINCE JUNE AND HYUNDAI WAS UNABLE TO FIX IT BECAUSE IT DID NOT DUPLICATE FOR THEM. PREVIOUSLY WE WERE DRIVING AT A VERY SLOW RATE OF SPEED, THIS TIME IT ALMOST KILLED MY DAUGHTER AND ME! MY CAR HAS BEEN WITH HYUNDAI AUTO-NATION, COLUMBUS, GA SINCE AUGUST 24, 2016 I CALLED ON AUGUST 25 BUT THE CAR VIN # WAS NOT ASKED OF ME, THE COMPLAINT TICKET NUMBER IS 1010763 THE FIRST TIME THE ESC ACTIVATED MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING. THE ESC TURNED ON, WHILE HE WAS ACCELERATING ONTO AN ON-RAMP BACK IN JUNE 2016. WE TURNED THE CAR OFF, RESEARCHED IT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, FOUND THE "OFF" BUTTON AND BROUGHT TO HYUNDAI THE NEXT DAY AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM! A WEEK LATER THE ESC TURNED ON IN A PARKING LOT WHILE I WAS DRIVING, HIT THE ESC OFF BUTTON AND THE CAR BEHAVED UNTIL AUG 24TH. I CALLED HYUNDAI TO REPORT, BUT SINCE IT DIDN'T OCCUR AGAIN, THEY SAID DO NOT BRING IT IN. ON AUGUST 24TH, THE ESC CAME ON WHILE I WAS IN A SCHOOL ZONE, I HIT THE OFF BUTTON, I TOOK THE OFF BUTTON OFF, TO SEE IF IT WOULD ACTIVATE AGAIN SO I COULD BRING IT INTO HYUNDAI (THEY SAID IT HAD TO BE MALFUNCTIONING AT THE TIME OF VISIT TO BE FIXED) IT MALFUNCTIONED! ALMOST KILLING MY MYSELF AND MY DAUGHTER! IF I HADN'T KNOWN ABOUT THE ESC OFF BUTTON, I WOULD DEFINITELY HAVE CRASHED!
AUTO STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON A CLEAR DAY, LIGHT TRAFFIC, 25 MPH, NO WARNING LIGHTS, ENGINE WAS RUNNING SMOOTH, ENGINE STALLED AND COULD NOT BE RE-STARTED, ROAD WAY WAS LEVEL WITH NO TURN INVOLVED. AUTO HAD TO BE TOWED.
