I'M HAVING A TAK,TAK,TAK SOUND COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD ONCE I SHUT THE CAR OFF. ALSO, YOU CAN SEE A SPARK WHILE IT IS MAKING THE SOUND. I"VE TAKEN THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THIS AND THE SCRUBBING SOUND ON THE BRAKES AND THE MISSING WHILE THE CAR IS IDLING. I'M TOLD EACH TIME THEY CAN'T HEAR OR FEEL ANYTHING AND TO PLEASE COME BACK IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I'VE BEEN TO THE DEALER SO MUCH I HATE TO GO AGAIN. *TR
RECALL PLEASE !! I SPENT MY LIFE SAVINGS ON THIS CAR AND IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THE CAR FISH TAILS OVER SMALL BUMPS AND AT LOW SPEEDS. IN WINTER DRIVING ITS ALMOST OUT OF CONTROL AND A SEPARATE SET OF SNOW TIRES IS MANDATORY SO YOU DON'T GET KILLED. WHEN IT CROSSES RAILROAD TRACKS IT ACTUALLY TENDS TO TURN ON ITS OWN ONTO THE DIRECTION OF THE TRACKS ! IF YOU HIT A DIP IN THE ROAD THE CAR SEEMS TO LOSE CONTROL. AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS FORGET IT - IT SWAYS ACROSS THE LANES ON ITS OWN AS IF IT IS CONSTANTLY CATCHING THE WIND. I CANNOT DRIVE IT ON THE HIGHWAY - I AM WHITE KNUCKLED BY JUST A SHORT TRIP TRYING TO KEEP CONTROL OF THIS CAR. THIS CAR IS MORE OF BOAT THEN AN AUTOMOBILE. IF I SELL THE CAR MY LOSSES WILL BE HUGE. I GOT A WHEEL ALIGNMENT, TIRES AND TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER ALL TO NO AVAIL AND THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE AS THE CAR IS AGING TOO. BASICALLY THE DEALER SAID THIS IS THE WAY THE CAR IS BUILT TOO BAD SO SAD.
WHEN DRIVING OVER 40MPH, CAR FISHTAILS WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. WORSENS IN RAIN. FEELS VERY UNSTEADY AND UNSAFE.
MY GIRLFRIEND PURCHASED A BRAND NEW HYUNDAI ELANTRA LAST YEAR AND SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IT HAS NOT DRIVEN PROPERLY. AT FIRST I ATTRIBUTED IT TO THE FACT THAT SHE HAD STUDDED TIRES ON THE VEHICLE DURING THE WINTER, HOWEVER THAT IS NOT THE CASE. THE VEHICLE DRIVES WHEREVER IT WANTS, BASICALLY. IT PULLS TO THE LEFT, IT PULLS TO THE RIGHT--ANYWHERE BUT STRAIGHT!! IT IS DIFFICULT TO STEER THE VEHICLE. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP--GARVEY HYUNDAI, IN PLATTSBURGH, NY ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CLEARLY DOESN'T HAVE AN HONEST ANSWER FOR ME AND BASICALLY TOLD ME THAT THE VEHICLE IS KNOWN FOR THAT, AND IT "TAKES SOME GETTING USED TO." HE ATTRIBUTES IT TO THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING, HOWEVER IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH IT AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS WELL AWARE OF THIS. THEY DID AN ALIGNMENT CHECK AND CONFIRMED THAT EVERYTHING IS "NORMAL." WELL EVERYTHING IS NOT "NORMAL." MY GIRLFRIEND IS 8 MONTHS PREGNANT AND IS DRIVING AROUND IN A VEHICLE THAT IS VERY UNSAFE. SAFETY IS SOMETHING THAT SHE EXPECTED, AND THAT THE DEALERSHIP ASSURED HER OF WHEN SHE MADE THE DECISION TO SPEND ALMOST $30,000 ON A VEHICLE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND I WILL NOT STOP UNTIL THE DEALERSHIP OR HYUNDAI MAKE THIS RIGHT. *TR
ONE TIRE HAS A BUBBLE IN THE OUTER SIDEWALL. WAS NEVER HIT OR DAMAGED IN ANY WAY. NO WARRANTY FOR TIRES. THIS IS ON THE 2013 ELANTRA GT BASE 16" WHEELS. TIRES ALSO WORE OUT VERY QUICKLY AT 40K.
RENTAL CAR, HYUNDAI ELANTRA 2013, FROM ENTERPRISE. VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE, CAN LOSE STEERING CONTROL VERY EASILY, WHICH I EXPERIENCED FIRST HAND DURING RAINY CONDITIONS. THE OTHER DRIVERS IN FRONT AND BEHIND ME DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH STEERING, BUT THIS VEHICLE LOST CONTROL...UPDATED 07/15/14 *BF
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA EQUIPPED WITH CONTINENTAL TIRE LINE: 215/45 R17 TIRES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE EXHIBITED BUBBLES WITHIN THE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON A CA HIGHWAY IN THE SLOW LANE AT APPROX. 50MPH, IN THE MORNING TIME (60-65F DEGREES), I HEARD A SUDDEN BOOM NOISE. IT SOUNDED LIKE A GUN SHOT. I WAS NOT NEAR ANY OVERPASS, NOR WERE ANY VEHICLES IN CLOSE PROXIMITY. I DID NOT SEE ANY DEBRIS, PROJECTILES OR ROCKS HIT THE CAR. I PULLED OVER ON THE HIGHWAY, AFTER SWERVING A FEW LANES, THINKING I HAD BLOWN A TIRE. TO MY SURPRISE, THE ELANTRA GT PANORAMIC SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED. THERE WERE BREAKS ALONG THREE OF THE FOUR EDGES OF THE REAR STANDING PORTION OF THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF, NOT THE MOVING PORTION OF THE SUNROOF. THE BREAKS WERE NEAR THE EDGES ONLY, AND NOT IN THE CENTER AT ALL. THERE WERE NO PROJECTILE HOLES ANYWHERE, AND THE BREAKS WERE STRAIGHT IN NATURE. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH HYUNDAI PANORAMIC SUNROOFS, AS I KNOW THERE WAS A 2012 RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE ON ANOTHER MODEL. I HAVE ALSO READ ABOUT SEVERAL 2013 HYUNDAI PANORAMIC SUNROOF EXPLOSION INCIDENTS ON THIS NHTSA WEBSITE. THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY HAZARD AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I AM FORTUNATE THERE WERE NO VEHICLES AROUND ME, AS THE LOUD BOOM CAUSED ME TO SWERVE WITHIN TWO LANES. HAD THE SUNROOF COVER BEEN OPEN, THE GLASS WOULD HAVE PENETRATED THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE, AND THE TEMPERED GLASS COULD HAVE CAUSED SEVERE LACERATIONS, WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF DEATH, DUE TO THE SPEEDS TRAVELED. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND FIXED BEFORE IT RESULTS IN THE LOSS OF LIFE. ON A BRIGHTER NOTE, SINCE THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 3K MILES ON IT AND WAS TWO MONTHS OLD, THE DEALER GAVE US A LOANER AND HAS AGREED TO FIX THE WINDOW AT NO COST; HOWEVER, THIS DOESN'T REMOVE THE APPREHENSION I WILL HAVE WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ONCE IT IS FIXED, THINKING IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN. BOUGHT VEHICLE IN 07\2013 VEHICLE HAS NOW 6728 MILES. TREAD WEAR ON HANKOOK P205\55R16 89H OPTIMOH426 AND DOT IS T7BC DL H. I HAVE NOTICE IRREGULAR TIRE WEAR ON THE FRONT TIRES.THREAD WEAR SEEMS TO BE FLAKING OFF. TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND INFORMED HANKOOK ON THE ISSUE. WAITING FOR RESPONSE. NOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING VEHICLE WITH THIS TIRE CONDITIONS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON I278 WEST BOUND IN BROOKLYN, NY, AND MY DRIVER SIDE FRONT TIRE WENT OVER A POT HOLE. IT WASN'T A DEEP POT HOLE SINCE THE IMPACT WAS NOT SEVERE, SO I CONTINUE DRIVING. AFTER A MINUTE OF DRIVING, THE TIRE PRESSURE INDICATOR CAME ON. THAT'S WHEN I PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, AND CALLED ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE. THIS HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR. THREE OUT OF THE 4 CASES HAPPENED ON THE DRIVER FRONT WHEEL. THEY EITHER HAD BUBBLE ON THE SIDEWALL, OR COMPLETELY BLEW OUT. THERE IS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM WITH THE TIRE DESIGN, OR THE MATERIAL USED. IT IS BECOMING EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE FREQUENCY OF TIRE BLOW OUT. *TR
THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED AS I WAS ON AN ON RAMP ABOUT TO MERGE ON TO A HIGHWAY. THE CAR LOST POWER AND ACTED LIKE IT WAS ABOUT TO STALL - THOUGH THERE WAS GAS (IT WAS ABOUT 1/4 FULL); ITS AN AUTOMATIC SO AS FAR AS I COULD TELL IT WAS NOT IN THE WRONG GEAR. IT REVVED UP BUT DID NOT GAIN ANY SPEED. SOMEHOW IT RECOVERED AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. I AM NOT SURE WHERE THIS FALLS - BUT EVEN THOUGH WE BALANCE AND ROTATE THE TIRES EVERY 5000 MILES THE CAR HAS BEEN PULLING TO THE RIGHT. WHEN IT IS WINDY OR IF THE ROAD IS BUMPY YOU HAVE TO GRIP THE STEERING WHEEL VERY TIGHTLY TO KEEP IT IN THE LANE. *TR
OUR ELANTRA BEGAN MAKING GRINDING NOISES WHEN WE PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THAT SOUNDED LIKE THE BRAKES OR ROTOR WERE DEFECTIVE. WHEN THE SHOP INSPECTED THE CAR, THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE NOISE, AND TOLD US THE CAR WAS IN PERFECT SHAPE. OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, THE NOISE BECAME LOUDER WHEN BRAKING, PLUS IT BEGAN MAKING A WHUMP-WHUMP-WHUMP NOISE THAT APPEARED TO BE DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE SPEED AND ROTATION OF THE WHEELS. THE SOUND WOULD INCREASE WHEN WE STEERED THE CAR TO THE RIGHT, AND WOULD DECREASE WHEN WE STEERED LEFT. THE WHUMPS WERE BARELY AUDIBLE AT 5 MPH, BUT WERE OVERLY LOUD AT 40 MPH. I THOUGHT IT WAS PLASTIC TRIM FLUTTERING IN THE WIND, BUT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING LOOSE. WHEN WE TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AGAIN, I THINK IN AUGUST, I TOLD THEM THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE THAT THEY NEEDED TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS CAUSING THE WHUMP NOISES AND THE GRINDING NOISES WHEN WE APPLIED THE BRAKES. THIS TIME THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE BOLT HOLDING THE LEFT WHEEL COMING UNSCREWED. THEY TIGHTENED THE BOLT UNDER WARRANTY REPAIR SERVICE, AND THE CAR HAS NOT MADE THE WHUMP NOISE OR HAD GRINDING BRAKES SINCE THE REPAIR. I DOUBT THIS PROBLEM WAS LIMITED TO ONE CAR IN THE FLEET, AND I BELIEVE HYUNDAI SHOULD HAVE ISSUED AN ADVISORY TO THEIR SHOP MANAGERS TO BE WATCHING FOR THIS PROBLEM SO THAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FOUND AND CORRECTED THE FIRST TIME THAT WE TOOK THE CAR IN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CHECK TIRE PRESSURE MOTORING SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED SPORADICALLY AND THEN DISAPPEARED. THE CONTACT WOULD PERIODICALLY PULLOVER WHEN THE MALFUNCTION OCCURRED AND THE TIRE PRESSURE ON ALL TIRES WAS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER HELD THE VEHICLE FOR 90 DAYS AND BROUGHT A HYUNDAI ENGINEER TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. BOTH THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,781.
I WAS IN THE FAR LEFT LANE OF INTERSTATE 255 IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS. A TRACTOR TRAILER WAS IN THE PROCESS OF CUTTING MY OFF WHEN I HONKED AND HE PROCEED BACK INTO HIS LANE. I HAD BRAKE QUICKLY AND WITH BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL WHEN THE CAR LOST CONTROL AND I WAS SWERVING WITHIN THE LANE FOR AROUND 2 MINUTES BEFORE I COULD REGAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR. I ALMOST CLIPPED ANOTHER CAR AS WELL AS THE MEDIAN, BUT BARLEY MISSED BOTH. I HAD BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL, I DID NOT STOMP ON THE BRAKES, AND YET I STILL LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR. IT ALSO CONSTANTLY SWAYS TO ONE SIDE AS WELL AS THE BRAKES LOSE GRIP IF YOU RUN OVER ANY BUMP AT ALL. YOU GUYS NEED TO RECALL THESE CARS, THEY ARE NOT SAFE AND I AM NOT PAYING ALMOST 400 DOLLARS A MONTH FOR A CAR THAT COULD EASILY INJURE ME IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA DOWN THE HIGHWAY @ APPROX 50MPH, THE LEFT REAR TIRE FAILED IN THE CENTER OF THE TREAD. NO WARNING. THE CAR IS DRIVEN BY MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER FOR SCHOOL AND WORK. SHE HIT NOTHING IN THE ROAD. HASN'T HIT ANYTHING WITH THE TIRE. DEALERSHIP SAYS IT WAS DUE TO A PUNCTURE. I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT. IF YOU HAVE WIRE(S) SHOWING, SEEMS TO ME THAT WOULD BE A TIRE FAILURE AND NOT A SIMPLE PUNCTURE. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE WITH ME. HANKOOK TIRE WARRANTY IN NEW JERSEY SAID TO HAVE THE DEALERSHIP SEND THEM THE TIRE AND THEY WOULD INSPECT IT TO MAKE A DETERMINATION OF FAILURE OR PUNCTURE. I HAVE AS MUCH FAITH IN THEM AS I DO THE DEALERSHIP AT THIS POINT. *TR
THE NIGHT I BOUGHT THIS CAR I DROVE HOME AND THERE WAS A SNOW DUSTING ON THE ROAD. THE CAR SEEMED TO FLOAT ALL OVER THE ROAD. WHENEVER I HIT A SMALL BUMP, POT HOLE, OR A SEAM IN THE ROAD (NO MATTER HOW SMALL) THE CAR JERKS OUT OF CONTROL AND SWERVES DANGEROUSLY ACROSS THE ROAD. I THOUGHT I HAD TO GET USED TO THE STEERING, BUT IT HAS BEEN A CONSTANT ISSUE. I AM VERY NERVOUS FOR WINTER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR AND GET INTO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR

UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EQUIPPED WITH A SPARE TIRE AND THE EQUIPMENT PROVIDED WAS NOT SUFFICIENT TO REPAIR THE BLOW OUT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATED TO 25 MPH AND THE TRACTION WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED IN APRIL OF 2014. PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE FOLLOWING WEEK TO BRING MY CAR IN AND IT HAD ONLY HAPPENED ONCE AT LOW SPEEDS. POWER STEERING WENT OUT 2 MORE TIMES DURING THE DAY, CALLED THE DEALERSHIP BACK AND INFORMED THEM I WAS BRINGING MY CAR IN AT THAT MOMENT AS I FELT UNSAFE. ON MY WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE POWER STEERING GAVE OUT ON ME WHILE EXITING THE HIGHWAY GOING 75 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF AND LUCKILY THE DEALERSHIP WAS RIGHT OFF THE EXIT. THE EPS LIGHT WAS ON AND IT THREW A CODE. THEY TOLD ME MY STEERING COLUMN WAS BAD. THEY REPLACED IT AND ALL WAS FINE. THEN I HAD AN ISSUE WITH MY FACTORY INSTALLED REMOTE START A FEW MONTHS LATER. THEY TOLD ME A CIRCUIT WAS BLOWN AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. NOW THIS YEAR (MAY OF 2015) I HAVE HAD THE REMOTE START AND THE POWER STEERING GO OUT ON ME ONCE AGAIN. MY CAR IS IN THE SHOP, WAS TOLD I NEEDED STEERING COLUMN REPLACED AGAIN. I REFUSED THIS ANSWER, AND THEY ARE DIGGING DEEPER AND HAVE FIGURED OUT THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH MY CAR. I HAVE HAD A LOANER CAR FOR 4 DAYS AND THEY STILL ARE NO CLOSER TO FIGURING OUT WHAT IS WRONG.

THE CONTACT TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IT WITHIN A FEW MINUTES AND THE TRACTION WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT UNKNOWN SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.

WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED WITHOUT ANY APPARENT REASON. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF A THREE LANE HIGHWAY. I HAD TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WITH NO STEERING OR BRAKES DUE TO THE ENGINE FAILURE. ONCE AT THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE RE-STARTED IMMEDIATELY AND RAN NORMALLY AGAIN FOR ABOUT A WEEK WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN, THIS TIME ON A SIDE STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH. VEHICLE 3 (BOX TRUCK) TRAVELING EAST BOUND AT 1000 NORTH LOOP E IN LANE #3. I COULD NOT GET IT GOING, SO I HAD IT TOWED BY A SECOND DRIVER TO THE CLOSEST DEALER, WHO REFUSED TO CONSIDER THAT THE TRANSMISSION MIGHT HAVE A PROBLEM AND THE FLUID MIGHT BE FROM THAT. HE REFUSED TO CHECK THE CAR UNLESS I PAID $110 UPFRONT.
