NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2025 Hyundai Palisade. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Defective rear self-leveling shocks/suspension. Unstable going over even small bumps. No replacement parts available. Took service technician on a ride along to confirm issue. Tech stated itis a know issue with a formal TSB published with 20-22 models but is also affecting newer models.
The vehicle’s forward collision warning / rear cross-traffic warning system is falsely detecting obstacles while I am driving down a normal residential driveway. The driveway has a gentle slope overall, with a slightly sharper angle right at the point where it meets the street. As I begin to move down the driveway—both in Drive and Reverse—the vehicle emits warning beeps and then suddenly and aggressively applies the brakes on its own, even though the path is completely clear. The braking is abrupt and forceful, and the system appears to misinterpret the brief angle change at the curbline as an obstacle. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This malfunction puts my safety and the safety of others at risk because the unexpected hard stop could cause a collision or loss of control. More importantly, if the system behaves this way on a simple residential driveway, it could be extremely hazardous on public roads that have larger hills, dips, or transitions. Sudden automatic braking on a main roadway or at higher speeds could lead to a serious crash. The problem has occurred repeatedly and consistently at the same driveway since I began driving the vehicle. It happens nearly every time. I took the vehicle to Speck Hyundai in Kennewick, WA, but the dealer was unable to reproduce the issue during their inspection. I have video evidence clearly showing the warning beeps and the vehicle braking on its own.
I have attached a letter detailing the issues and the problems with the vehicle in PDF format.
Antilock braking system is malfunctioning. Significant increase in stopping distance, and especially on uneven or wet surfaces. The car shutters and shakes while stopping. We have almost hit a deer, had trouble stopping at intersections, and did not stop in a timely manner while behind another vehicle. General fear knowing if brakes are firmly pressed that the car is unable to stop quickly (as expected with other vehicles).
- Loud rattle in back of car which was determined by Brenham Tx Hyundai dealer to be bad rear shocks on 12/4/2025. - Inspection available upon request. - Faulty shocks could fall off and cause a wreck or damage/wreck to anyone following. - Brenham Tx Hyundai performed the inspection. - No warning other than the loud rattle coming from back of car. We were told that the shocks were in inventory. Setup up repair appointment on 12/12/25. Waited 1 hour then we were told the shocks were on back order. No idea as to when they would be shipped or re chives by the dealer.
I have been cut very deeply at least 6 times on the driver's door, and my wife has been cut at least 3 times (she does not ride in it as often) on the passenger side door while closing. The edge (point) on both sides is rough and sharp. I have begun carrying first aid supplies as it takes 20 mins to stop the bleeding and I am getting scars. This has been reported to the dealership but the service manager states they will investigate. I have found numerous reports online of the same issue with 2025 Palisades. This also occurred with the 2020-2022 model and resulted in recalls of some trim packages.
The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the second-row seat belts failed to latch as intended. The contact's grandson attempted to secure the seat belt, and the seat belt failed to latch securely. The contact assisted with fastening the seat belt. The contact stated that the seat belt was difficult to latch. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with seat belt failure. The contact was informed that the seat belts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that parts were not available. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V607000 (Seat Belts) and 26V034000 (Air Bags); however, parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the vehicle was used to transport children, and that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
My son and I were driving down the interstate and all of a sudden we heard a loud boom. It felt like something hit the vehicle, but it was more like an explosion. I thought possibly a rock or something hit the back of my car, but that didn’t make any sense. There were no vehicles or bridges around us. I was two minutes from home so I drove home and when I pulled in the driveway, I heard a cracking noise. When I parked, we got out to investigate and determined that the cracking was coming from the moon roof. It was actively cracking. This is exactly what has happened to Palisades in the past with the exploding sunroof/moonroof.
Please remove the alert “Consider a break”. This alert is very annoying and distracting. My opinion it does nothing for the safety of the vehicle. At the time I purchased the vehicle I was not advised about the alert. Had I known prior to purchase, I would have passed on the purchase. Please do something to remove or delete the aforementioned alert.
A dangerous and unpredictable braking issue has plagued my brand-new SUV (under 5,000 miles). On multiple occasions, the brakes have engaged suddenly and without warning while driving, causing the vehicle to stop abruptly in the middle of the road. This creates a hazardous situation with the potential for rear-end collisions, putting my family at risk and causing back pain to my passengers. The same problem also occurs when parking. The dealership requires a five-day service appointment, but the lack of any pre-warning lamps or indicators makes this issue especially concerning.
I had brought my car in because it feels like the antilock brakes kick in on uneven surfaces. I was told there is no issue. This happens again 2 days ago. I have had it happen where I almost hit the person in front of me, the car will not stop. Dry roads. It’s on bumpy roads, more often is a slight downhill. No lights on dash for antilock brakes coming on.
the abs system doesn't work properly on uneven, low speed roads. the brakes will not stop i have almost wrecked on multiple occasions. the seat belt located in the middle row, the middle seat belt gets stuck in the plastic causing the belt to stay loose. the vehicle also will shut its self down into "accessory" mode and put me into park not allowing me to move from traffic. it will either "reboot" or power off fully if i hit the ignition, i never know which it will do until it does it. it will sputter as if it is trying not to die if i am setting in a line or parked with the car on.
I smell gasoline through the AC vent at every stop when I drive the car locally at low speed (under 50 mph) after the car has been parked overnight. The smell eventually goes away after driving a while, but it comes back the next day when the car has been parked overnight. I feel like the smell is worse as the fuel tank gets lower. I took the car to the dealership and they were not able to identify the problem.
Vechile bought new less than 6 months ago. Seat belt of passenger side does not function properly. Federally seat belts required to operate vehicle. I have small children to buckle into this seat. Safety concern since death could happen. Attempted to have dealer fix 3 times within the month and unable. Stop sale has been issued now on this vehicle. Completely unsafe.
The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Palisade. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V607000 (Seat Belts). The local dealer was contacted and confirmed the recall status. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The contact had not experienced a failure.
The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Palisade. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V607000 (Seat Belts); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while trying to lock the seat belt, the seat belt failed to click and lock securely. The contact was unsure if the seat belt was secured. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue; however, no assistance was offered. The contact parked and had not driven the vehicle due to safety concerns. The failure mileage was approximately 2,500.
I am reporting Hyundai Motor America’s failure to remedy two active safety recalls on my 2025 Hyundai Palisade (VIN: [XXX] ) within a reasonable timeframe, despite multiple attempts to have the vehicle repaired. My vehicle has two open safety recalls involving critical occupant protection systems, including seat belt buckle assemblies that may fail to latch properly and a third-row occupant safety defect that increases the risk of injury in the event of a crash or rollover. On October 23, 2025, I brought my vehicle to the Hyundai dealership specifically to have the recall defects repaired. At the time of drop-off, I clearly informed the dealership that the purpose of the visit was for recall repairs. However, the dealership labeled the visit as a “maintenance appointment” instead of properly documenting it as a recall repair visit. The recall defects were not repaired. I returned to the Hyundai dealership again on February 18, 2026, after being promised that the recall repairs would be completed. Once again, Hyundai failed to repair the safety defects, and the recalls remain unresolved. It is now February 20, 2026, more than four months since I first presented the vehicle for recall repair, and Hyundai has failed to remedy these critical safety defects or provide a clear timeline for repair. These defects involve essential safety systems, including seat belts and third-row occupant protection. I have four children who regularly occupy the rear seating areas, and I am deeply concerned about their safety. Hyundai’s failure to repair these safety recalls has placed my family at risk. Because Hyundai has failed to repair the vehicle within a reasonable timeframe, I am requesting NHTSA investigation and assistance. I am also requesting that Hyundai provide trade assistance, replacement, or buyback so that I can obtain a safe vehicle for my family, at no cost to me, due to Hyundai’s inability to remedy these safety defects. I was driving slowly, about 5 mph, and was pulling over on a residential street to park on the street, and my Hyundai started shaking…the steering wheel and car were shaking and the brakes weren’t working. I nearly rear ended a car full of people. It did eventually a stop and the whole thing lasted maybe 10 seconds but it was terrifying. I had it towed to the dealership and they can’t seem to duplicate it.
My location of work has metal grates (to close a metal gate) at the entrance and exit. I’ve experienced many many times at the exit as I am breaking the breaks slipping. I’ve noticed it other times as I break while driving over uneven surfaces. I finally started digging because that’s not normal and it was brand new. It appears others have had the same issue. It doesn’t look like a recall has been issued, but definitely needs to be.
I just had at least my 6th occurrence with my new 2025 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy Night Edition where, while braking at a slow speed, my abs kicked in and wouldn’t stop my car despite pushing the brake to the floor. Finally it abruptly stopped. In all situations, the road surfaces seemed to be slightly uneven or slightly bumpy. Each time this happened, I was traveling very slow and no faster than 10-15 mph. I’ve had my car for less than 5 months and now has happened at least 6 times. I nearly missed rear ending the vehicle in front of me in all cases because the abs was aggressively pulsating but not stopping until almost hitting the vehicle in front of me.
2025 Palisade 1,700 miles. Brand new. When I approached a stop sign, there was a small pothole just before it. When braking towards this sign, the front left tire traveled over the pothole. The car then shook violently and braking appeared to have halted for a moment. A search online revealed many people having similar issues with potholes/uneven roads and the brakes not functioning during this shaking period. It is suspected this is an antilock brake system. The issue is that it is too sensitive. Needs a recall to retune the sensitivity of this.
When driving over railroad tracks or entry gates, the vehicle skids forward in an uncontrollable manner and vehicle is unable to stop when I press on the brake pedal. I have to put the car in “park” to stop the vehicle from rolling into oncoming traffic or colliding into the car in front of me. It appears to be an ABS problem.
The brakes on the car almost caused an accident where we would have rear ended the car in front of us. We were in a line of cars exiting a gravel parking lot traveling 5-10 mph. I pressed on the brake pedal as the car in front of us began to brake and our antilock brakes engaged and our car continued to travel forward towards the car in front of us. Luckily the car in front of us pulled out onto the road and we did not hit them. Similar issues have happened a handful of times since buying in March of 2025. I am an experienced driver and am familiar with how antilock brakes work and when they should engage, these instances have not been such cases. It seems it will only be a matter of time until this causes accidents. Another instance was when approaching a stop sign and hitting rumble strips in the road. This improper engaging of antilock brakes can very easily lead to car not stopping in time putting myself, my family, and other vehicles traveling on road at risk. I called the dealer and they said there is no issue and the antilock brakes are acting as they should. I have owned several cars over my lifetime and never had antilock brakes engage in these same instances. Upon investigation online, other drivers are experiencing similar issues and Hyundai is denying the issue. I have an appointment scheduled to get it looked at. There were no warnings, messages or other symptoms of the problem. How many people are going to have to report the same issue or how many people are going to have to be hurt before action is taken.
Anytime driving on a bumpy road the brakes do not work correctly. When driving on a bumpy road I can feel the abs take over and I lose control over braking. Eventually I have to slam on the brakes or the computer does. Feels extremely unsafe since there are lots of brick roads around me. This has happened since I purchased the vehicle. I just researched this issue and it seems to be known a issue.
When driving at a low speed and over an uneven driving surface attempting to brake, the abs system unnecessarily engages and causes the car to lock up and skid instead of braking. This almost caused a car accident where my car would not stop like normal and almost skid into a stationary vehicle with an increased stopping distance until it stopped with a jolt. There is a class action lawsuit on this issue in Ohio and New York.
The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Palisade. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 25V607000 (SEAT BELTS) and 26V034000 (AIR BAGS); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact was informed that parts for the seat belts might be available in June 2026. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue, and a case number was provided. The contact had not experienced a failure.
LKA forces vehicle to a left or right side of lane position and continuously provides steering input resisting driver in maintaining center of lane position. Condition has existed from day of dealer delivery.
It doesn’t brake on uneven surfaces because of ABS sensor issue. This has been reported by many owners of 2023-2025 Hyundai Palisade.
The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Palisade equipped with Hankook Tires, Tire Line: Ventus S1 Noble, Tire Size: 245/50/R20, DOT Number: 15MA0-1AH0-2424. The contact stated that upon inspecting the vehicle, the front driver’s side tire and the front passenger’s side tire were bald. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who confirmed that the tread on both tires was bald; however, no assistance was provided. The contact stated that the rear tires did not need to be replaced. The tires were not replaced, and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 13,041.
Component/System Failed: The rear suspension strut assembly on the passenger side fully dislodged while driving at approximately 30 mph. The vehicle and damaged component are available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The sudden failure caused the rear of the vehicle to drop and become unstable, creating a loss of control risk to myself and nearby drivers. Reproduction/Confirmation: The issue has not been reproduced but was confirmed by the Hyundai dealership upon inspection. Inspection: The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer’s service department and corporate case team. Warning Signs: No warning lights, error messages, or abnormal noises were present prior to the failure. The dealership classified the failure as impact damage, claiming an external force caused the rear strut to detach, which excludes it from warranty coverage. However, my insurance inspection found no evidence of significant impact or collision, noting only minimal scuffing and no structural deformation. This indicates the issue was more consistent with a mechanical or structural defect rather than road damage.
While gently slowing/braking on warm and dry pavement, the vehicle proceeded over bumpy railroad tracks which seemingly activated the Anti-lock brake system and prohibited the vehicle from stopping effectively. I had to turn the vehicle away from the vehicle stopped ahead of me because my vehicle was not stopping in time and I narrowly avoiding an accident due to this situation. Due to this inappropriate activation of the ABS system, the vehicle took significantly longer to come to a stop, and once the ABS stopped pulsating, the vehicle abruptly stopped, however I already had to turn away from the vehicle in front of me to avoid rear-ending it. This is an exceptionally unsafe situation that will inevitable cause injury or death should someone be driving fast up to the car in front of them and not expect this to occur. This is an extremely unexpected vehicle equipment response on a perfectly dry road without any debris/etc to cause tire slippage. Having done some online research of the issue, this seems to be a frequent problem experienced by other Palisade owners however Hyundai is not doing anything about it. We will have the vehicle inspected when we bring it in for the recent recall that Hyundai identified regarding seatbelts (however no fix has been identified for it as of yet).
pulling out of a dark parking lot at night, slowing to a stop at the stop sign. The road was bumpy and the abs kicked in for no reason, the brakes started juddering like crazy and the vehicle refused to stop. A loaded pickup was driving on the street and I was headed right in its path. I twice tried releasing the pedal and then reapplying it. the send time finally worked and the car came to a hard stop. All occupants were thrown forward. Seven year old in the back in a booster was complaining that the seat belt hurt her neck from the force of the stop.
My vehicle has had a recall for seat belt issues for a while. My dealer has been unable to make corrections as hyundai has not/does not have the equipment to repair the issue. Its been months. Now theres another issue with airbags, and rumors of another issue with headrests. They have sold me a lemon and they are not providing a remedy.
BRAKES WON'T WORK AS EXPECTED ON SLOPES/UNEVEN ROADS
The ABS system has malfunctioned 4 times now while braking when going over an uneven surface- railroad tracks, uneven older roads in the area. The car will start shaking and lunge forward even with the brake all the way down to floor. This has caused me to almost hit 4 vehicles now. Yes, it is available for inspection. My safety, as well as others on the road are put at risk until this issue is fixed. The first dealership i took the vehicle to on 8/28/25 told me there were no issues and couldn't find anything wrong. The problem has since been replicated by the 2nd dealer who has looked at the vehicle 9/22/25. No warnings or messages popped up on the dash at any occurrence. Their response was that they called the manufacturer and explained the issue and they were told that this is normal and is intended to do this- continue to move towards other vehicles when brake is engaged. This does not seem to be correct and appears that there is even a class-action lawsuit for the same issue that was filed early 2025.
I have 25 Palisade calligraphy and from the last two months I almost went 7-8 times to the dealership because of the ABS issue. When going over rougher road, railroad tracks, and also uneven surfaces brake is not working at that time. It is an issue that only happens under very specific conditions like slow speeds (under 10 mph), uneven surface (gravel, railroad tracks, speed bumps, driveway entry). Acts like ABS is activated but it the car isn't acknowledging that it is. I work in Manhattan and that is very crowdy place and at that time my car brake is not working, I almost hit the crowd because my car is not stopping at the stop line, it is very serious issue, please consider it and take this feedback.
In multiple instances, the ABS is engaging on uneven surfaces when it should not. It occurs when pulling into my driveway and just happened this morning in the car drop off line. I was going no more than 5mph when the car in front of me stopped. I hit the brakes and the ABS engaged (along with the crash alarm) causing a skid. No accident occurred, but it was unsettling.

Yesterday while driving over train tracks and braking for a red light in the distance, my brakes pulsed as if I were on ice and my car could not stop. The road conditions were dry, with the temperature outside around 75 degrees. I was driving 20mph max and nearly hit the car in front of us as my brakes would not engage. My daughter and I were both terrified. My car has around 13K miles on it. Since purchasing the car last October I frequently feel the ABS pulse while driving over bumps and braking at the same time. I do believe this could be replicated. I thought it was just a quirk of the car or a computer glitch that occurs when braking on rougher terrain. But yesterday while braking I was unable to stop, nearly causing a collision. Luckily the car ahead moved forward so we avoided a crash. There were no warning lamps or messages. I'm very scared to drive this car now. Please help.
Was driving down a side street going less than 20 mph, came to a stop sign and attempted to brake. The vehicle did not brake, and upon pressing the brake pedal harder the ABS system activated. Vehicle did not stop for the stop sign and ended up partially in the oncoming traffic lane.
The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Palisade. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V607000 (Seat Belts). The local dealer was contacted for several months about the recall repair and was informed that the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact called the manufacturer and was referred back to the dealer for assistance. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure.
A Class action lawsuit has been filed for this Issue which Hyundai refuses to acknowledge our 2025 Palisade is having this issue on a regular basis. When it occurs the car becomes very difficult to stop we feel as do the lawyers in the class action in New York California and Ohio that this is a serious safety situation. We have had the car to the dealer and as previous owners have stated it is not acknowledged.
It happened on the way home from Manhattan [from Mount Sinai Hospital], near the ramp to 9W. The road was freshly milled (top layer removed before repaving), and I was going downhill. Traffic ahead was slowing, I had plenty of room, and it wasn’t even a sudden stop — I was just trying to gradually slow down when the car failed to respond properly. This isn’t some one-off. The behavior matches what I’ve seen others report: at low speeds, on rough or uneven surface, the ABS seems to engage when it shouldn’t, and instead of stopping, the car jerks forward. I’ve been able to replicate it a few times now — I more or less can sense when it might happen. To make matters worse, my pregnant wife was in the passenger seat when this happened. She injured her left shoulder during the crash, and the very next day she had to undergo an emergency C-section. Because her lower body was numbed for surgery, the pain in her shoulder made the whole experience much harder for her [btw, Mother and Baby are perfectly fine, thanks god]. This has left me shaken that a family SUV can have such a dangerous defect on the road. There is a lawsuit already, but this needs to be taken very seriously. https://www.classaction.org/news/2023-2025-hyundai-palisade-vehicles-plagued-by-brake-problems-class-action-suit-claims
ABS kicks in with even the slightest bump. Had an incident a couple weeks ago where I went over a bump while leaving a store and the car almost did not stop before hitting oncoming traffic. Have had issues for 10 months with the car not accelerating properly or shifting properly. Have tried to drive in every mode (smart, sport, comfort) and nothing makes it better. I have had the vehicle to the shop 3 times. First 2 times said no problem. The third time stated my rear seal is leaking and transmission is leaking as well as 4x4 coupler needs replaced. I feel unsafe to drive in this vehicle with me and my children.
When going over a bump/rough pavement at a slow speed and applying the brakes, there is a loud grinding noise and vibration on the brake pedal. The vehicle does not brake as fast as normal. This leads to extended braking distance. This has happened three times to us and haven’t been able to recreate. We are taking it in to the dealership to be evaluated.
On multiple instances at speeds varying for 5mph to 25mph while braking on uneven roads, the ABS system kicked on. The brakes were vibrating and the brake pedal was stiff causing increased brake time. On one occasion it nearly caused a car crash.
I experienced a partial brake failure as I was attempting to leave a shopping center parking lot. The traffic light was red and there were no cars in front of me. I was traveling at approximately 10-15 mph. As I approached the light, I applied the brakes. The car started to shutter and the car kept moving forward. It’s as if the brakes were being applied off and on rapidly. The car kept moving forward. That’s when I applied a lot of pressure on the brake pedal to try and get the car to stop. It eventually stopped but by then, my vehicle was partly into the intersection. Had another vehicle been in front of me, my vehicle would certainly have made contact. There were no warning lights or other indications that the vehicle was having issues. The vehicle is brand new and has less than 800 miles on the odometer. The road surface was rather smooth; however, vehicles exiting the parking lot must drive over a drain grate. The braking issue happened as I drove over the grate. The grate is slightly lower than the paved road. Please see pictures. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership for evaluation. An internet search shows that other owners have experienced the same issue on 2023-2025 Palisades models.
My car has had numerous issue. The first issue was with the front end collision warning system. I had a sensor warning come on twice saying it may not be in use, but then it falsely predicted a collision resulting in the car slamming on the brakes when nothing was there. I almost go rear-ended as a result. The dealer found that the radar system was completely broken and the sensor was facing to the side instead of the front. I bought the car brand new and there was no evidence of damage and it has never been explained how it got damaged. They replaced the system and that was resolved, but the sensors continue acting strange. It's now turning on the camera and telling me to check my surroundings when I'm stopped at a red light. There is nothing happening around me. The problem that is ongoing and has yet to be resolved is my brakes. It's an intermittent issue, but when I go over rough surfaces and hit the brakes I get a crunching/grinding noise that sounds like it's grinding rocks. This happens intermittently. The dealer was eventually able to replicate it and is saying it's the ABS system and that it's normal, but cannot do anything to repair it. However, it is not normal for ABS to come on going over a bump and it shouldn't sound like that. When this happens, the brakes don't seem to respond properly and as quickly as it should. I have not gotten any warning lights for the brake issue. It does put the parking brake on at times for no reason when I'm on a completely flat surface. The car was out of service for 21 days in a month and a half of owning it. I have a car that I don't feel safe in and I don't trust what it's going to do. It's problem after problem and corporate Hyundai doesn't want to do anything about it.
My vehicle has an open recall (26V034000) with no remedy available. Combined with another unresolved recall (25V607000), my vehicle has multiple outstanding safety issues with no resolution timeline.
