FAILED INSPECTION IN PART DUE TO FRONT SUBFRAME RUST THROUGH. CALLED HYUNDAI AND SPOKE TO A CLAIMS REP. BY THE NAME OF NATHAN & TIER2 REP TIM. BOTH TOLD ME THERE WERE RECALLS ON SONATAS UP TO 2004 FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT NOT 2005. THE 2005 MODEL IS THE SAME MODEL AS 2004. THE MODEL YEAR DIDN'T CHANGE TILL 2006 SO WHY WAS 2005 EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL? MY CAR HAS 120K MILES ON IT. BOTH TOLD ME IT WASN'T UNDER RECALL OR WARRANTY, AND THAT HYUNDAI WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME, . HOW IS IT THE A CAR 11 YEARS OLD HAS A BAD FRAME? HOPE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO HELP US.
I JUST FAILED INSPECTION DUE TO HOLE RUSTED THRU SUBFRAME.
HAVING A CONSTANT MALFUNCTION WITH THE AIRBAG SENSOR AFTER HAVING REPAIR AT LEAST 2 TO 3 DIFFERENT TIME OF HAVING THE CAR. THE AIRBAG LIGHT STILL COMES ON .
MY WIFE HAD AN ACCIDENT ON NEW JERSEY PARKWAY SOUTH, THE AIR BAG ON BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGERS SIDE REFUSE TO DEPLOY, THESE HAS CAUSE MY WIFE BROKEN RIBBS AND SOME BODILY INJURIES ACCORDING TO DOCTORS REPORT....UPDATED 07/13/16 *BF
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE WINDSHIELD WASHER FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000.
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN A FENDER BENDER WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND RELEASED A LOT OF TINY METAL CRYSTALS. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY DEALER AND DEEMED DESTROYED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

THE MODEL YEAR DIDN'T CHANGE TILL 2006 SO WHY WAS 2005 EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL? MY CAR HAS 115K MILES ON IT AND THE UNDERBODY IS ALWAYS WASHED DURING WINTER SEASONS. MIKE TOLD ME IT WASN'T UNDER WARRANTY, AND THAT HYUNDAI WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME, TO CONTACT MY DEALERSHIP, MAYBE THEY WOULD DO SOMETHING. I HAVE A 1969 CAMARO AND THE SUBFRAME IS FINE. HOW IS IT THE A CAR 10 YEARS OLD HAS A BAD FRAME? HOPE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO HELP US.
(TAKATA RECALL) I HAD A ACCIDENT ON 1/20/2016. MY AIRBAG DID NOT INFLATION, WHEN THE AIRBAG CAME OUT IT WAS DEFLATED. THE AIRBAG LET OUT CHEMICAL IN MY FACE, EYES, NOSE, THROAT.THE AIRBAG EXPOSURE CAUSE ME EYE TRAUMA, FACE SKIN IRRITATED , AND SINUS INFECTION, HEADACHE . I HIT SOME BLACK ICE ON HIGHWAY 77, THREE MILES BEFORE YOU GET TO NEWBORN, TN. MY CAR SLIDE OF THE ROAD IN TO A DITCH. THE BAG DID NOT CAUSE THE ACCIDENT, BUT IT CAUSE BODY PROBLEMS.
INVOLVED IN A FOUR CAR CRASH EARLY THIS MORNING. I WAS THE LAST IN LINE AND REAR ENDED A TRUCK. THE SONATA IS TOTALED. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOYED, BUT NOT THE DRIVER'S ONE. I HIT THE STEERING WHEEL AND GLASSES FLEW OFF ON THE DASHBOARD. IT WAS A HARD IMPACT, THE FRONT END IS DESTROYED.
I NOTICE THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON HYUNDAI SONATA'S FROM 2006 -2010 IN REGARDS TO RUST CONCERNS WITH REAR SUSPENSION. THIS WAS JUST DETECTED BY MY MECHANIC THAT THE ATTACHING POINT FOR THE CONTROL ARM HAS RUSTED AND BECAME SEPARATED FROM THE CROSSMEMBER. THE RESULT AND MY IMMEDIATE CONCERN WAS THE SUDDEN CHANGE IN VEHICLE HANDLING, A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR TIRE WHEN I HIT A SMALL BUMP. I WAS WONDERING WHY THE 2005 SONATA ISN'T COVERED IN THIS RECALL?
ACCORDING TO MECHANIC THE UPPER CONTROL ARM REAR PASSENGER SIDE IS RUSTED AND DETACHED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BATTERY HAD TO BE DISCONNECTED IN ORDER FOR THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO TURN OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V280000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 58,000.
8 JUNE 2015- NEW TIRES AND BRAKES INSTALLED ON CAR. 11 JUNE 2015- UPON ARRIVAL AT HOME, HEARD LEAKING SOUND FROM LEFT FRONT TIRE. SAW VALVE STEM LEAKING DUE TO WHEEL COVER PRESSING AGAINST STEM. CHECKED RIGHT FRONT TIRE, IT ALSO HAD THE COVER PRESSING AGAINST THE VALVE STEM. ALTHOUGH IT WAS NOT LEAKING. TWO REAR TIRES WERE OKAY. I ASSUMED THE MECHANIC HAD INSTALLED THE FRONT COVERS IMPROPERLY. 12 JUNE 2015- PUT SPARE ON LEFT FRONT AND DROVE TO THE GARAGE, HAD THE MECHANIC WHO INSTALLED THE TIRES CHECK OUT WHAT HAPPENED. HE WAS NOT SURE WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. HE REPLACED ALL THE VALVE STEMS AND CORRECTLY REINSTALLED THE WHEEL COVERS.ALL SEEMED WELL. 13 JUNE 2015- WIFE AND DAUGHTER DEPARTED ON TRIP TO MAINE VIA INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS. ON NEW HAMPSHIRE INTERSTATE THEY HAD THE LEFT FRONT TIRE GO FLAT AND THE RIGHT FRONT BEGAN LEAKING AT 65MPH. UNABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER, THEY CONTINUED ON TO A SAFE AREA, LEFT FRONT TIRE AND RIM DESTROYED. THEY CALLED AAA AND WERE TOWED 91 MILES TO THEIR DESTINATION. THE AAA MECHANIC IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS THE WHEEL COVER SHIFTING, ON BOTH FRONT WHEELS, PRESSING THE VALVE STEMS OVER AND CUTTING INTO THEM. THEY ARE NOW HOPING TO FIND A PLACE WHICH CAN REPLACE THE TIRE AND RIM ON A WEEKEND. THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO RETURN MONDAY WHICH NOW LOOKS DOUBTFUL. CHECKING ON LINE, I FOUND THIS HAS BEEN A REPORTED PROBLEM BEFORE. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM, THEY ARE LUCKY THEY DID NOT CRASH. I DO NOT SEE WHERE HYUNDAI HAS EVER ACKNOWLEDGED THIS AS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. BESIDE THE MONETARY BURDEN THIS HAS CAUSED US, WE ARE THANKFUL THAT THIS DID NOT TURN INTO A TRAGEDY. ELECTRICAL ISSUES BEGAN A MONTH AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE. FRONT AND REAR LIGHT BULBS CONTINUE REQUIRING REPLACEMENT, THE DASH LIGHT ALSO WILL FLASH WHEN BRAKES ARE DEPRESSED. THE TRUNK LEAKED THE FIRST CHRISTMAS, DEALER CLAIMED TO REPAIR IT, BUT FAILED, STILL LEAKS. AIR BAG INDICATOR CAME ON, WENT OFF EVENTUALLY, AND IS BACK ON AGAIN. FINALLY, CAR BEGAN LOSING POWER LAST YEAR AND CUTTING OFF SPORADICALLY IN TRAFFIC, AND NOW THE REAR AND WINDOW BRAKE LIGHTS REMAIN ON WHEN LIGHTS ARE ON BUT NOT WHEN TURNED OFF. RECALL INFO POINTS TO DEFECTIVE STOP BRAKE SWITCH THAT FAILED EVEN AFTER REPAIR/REPLACEMENT, HOWEVER, MY VIN DOES NOT APPEAR ON THE RECALL LIST AND THE DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR OR REPLACE. CURIOUS, SINCE MY CAR IS OF THE MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR REPORTED! GREEDY AND IRRESPONSIBLE ! *TR
ARE MY AIRBAGS A PROBLEM? WERE THEY MANUFACTURED BY TAKATA? THE AIR BAG LIGHT HAS REMAINED ON SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR USED. SHOULD I GET THEM REPLACED? AM I IN DANGER FROM AIRBAGS? *TR
WE HAVE HAD INTERMITTENT ISSUES WITH THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMING ON IN THIS VEHICLE. WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED WE TOOK IT TO A HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER AND THEY SAID THAT SOME ITEMS GOT UNDER THE FRONT SEAT AND COMPROMISED THE WIRE HARNESS. I EXPLAINED MY CONCERNS TO THE SERVICE REP THAT I WAS SHOCKED THAT THE AIR BAG AND SAFETY SYSTEM COULD BE COMPROMISED BY ITEMS THAT MAY GET UNDER THE SEATS. THIS WEEK WE HAD ANOTHER AN AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT COME ON AND AGAIN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER. THIS TIME IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A SHORT CIRCUIT IN AN AIR BAG ASSEMBLY. ON 8/26/14 I CALLED A HYUNDAI SERVICE CONTRACT REPRESENTATIVE ABOUT COVERAGE FOR THIS UNDER A SERVICE CONTRACT. I WAS ADVISED THAT THE AIR BAG WAS A MAINTENANCE ISSUE AND THAT AFTER TIME THE AIR BAG COMPONENT WOULD WEAR OUT. MY REACTION WAS THAT, YES, EVERY COMPONENT IN THE CAR WILL WEAR OUT OVER TIME. USING THAT ARGUMENT, HYUNDAI COULD ARGUE THAT NO COMPONENTS WOULD BE COVERED AS EVERY ITEM ON THE CAR IS ARGUABLY A MAINTENANCE ISSUE. I FOUND THAT POSITION SHOCKING AS NO SERVICE VENDOR OR OWNER MAKES REGULAR INSPECTION OF THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. THIS EXPERIENCE LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT HYUNDAI DOES NOT TAKE THEIR RESPONSIBILITY SERIOUSLY REGARDING THE USE AND SAFETY OF THEIR AIR BAG SYSTEMS. *TR

YOUR PROBE INTO THE HYUNDAI SONATA AIRBAG ISSUE SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO EARLIER MODELS AS WE HAVE A 2005 AND WHAT YOU ARE INITIALLY EXPLAINING AFFECTS OUR VEHICLE ALSO. WE HAVE HAD THE AIRBAG LIGHT RESET A FEW TIMES BY THE DEALER (ZIMBRIK HYUNDAI IN MADISON, WI). THEY INITIALLY STATED THAT IT WAS JUST A WIRE UNDER THE SEAT THAT NEEDED TO BE REATTACHED. THEY'D DO THAT AND TURN OFF THE AIRBAG LIGHT, IT'D BE OK FOR A FEW MONTHS, THEN THE LIGHT WOULD COME BACK ON. THEY EVENTUALLY STATED THEY WANTED TO REPACK THE AIRBAG FOR THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, SEEMED SOMEWHAT LIKE A SCAM, SO WE NO LONGER GO IT FIXED AND HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON. *JS
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. TRIED PUMPING THE GAS PEDAL TO RELEASE IT, CAR STILL ACCELERATED. BRAKES DID LITTLE GOOD. WAS ABLE TO DOWN SHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR, THEN INTO NEUTRAL AND UTILIZING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR SLOWED DOWN ENOUGH TO CUT THE ENGINE. SOME PROBLEM HAPPENED IMMEDIATELY WHEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON TRYING TO GET IT OFF THE FREEWAY OFF RAMP. WAS ABLE TO STOP SAFELY IN A PARKING LOT WITHOUT HITTING ANYTHING. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY SAID IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN A HEAVY RAIN THE ENGINE BEGIN MISSING AND SLOWING DOWN. BECAUSE OF THE RAIN TRAFFIC WAS RUNNING AT ABOUT 25 MPH. THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AND I DRIFTED ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY (I 95). AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS THE ENGINE RESTARTED , BUT WAS STILL MISSING BADLY I COULD ONLY GET TO APPROX. 20MPH. EACH TIME I STOPPED THE ENGINE WOULD STOP. USING THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. THE NEXT MORNING I TRIED TO START THE CAR BUT IT WOULD NOT. I OPEN THE HOOD JUST TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANYTHING VISIBLY WRONG. I CHECKED THE AIR FILTER AND FIND THAT IT WAS FULL OF WATER. WITH WET FILTER OUT AND THE WATER REMOVED FROM THE FILTER HOUSING THE CAR RUNS WITH OUT A PROBLEM. I CAN'T LOCATE WHERE THE AIR INTAKE IS TO SEE IF THERE IS PART MISSING ETC. THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME THIS HAS HAPPEN. THE DEALERS ANSWER FOR THIS PROBLEM "DON'T DRIVE IN HEAVY RAIN". *TR

THE LIGHTS DID NOT DIM UNTIL THE CONTACT REMOVED THE BRAKE LIGHT FUSE FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V280000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. CHROME INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE. THE CHROME ON THE HANDLE IS CRACKING AT THE CHROME EDGE. IT HAS A SHARP EDGE AND CUT MY PASSENGERS HAND. I HAD THIS HANDLE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY ONCE BEFORE FOR THIS ISSUE AND NOW IT IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS BEFORE. THEY HAVE A RECALL ON THE 2002 - 2003 SONATAS PERSONALLY I DON'T THINK THEY FIXED ANYTHING AND THIS SHOULD BE INCLUDED FOR THE RECALL AS WELL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO JERK WHEN CONTACT TRIED TO CHANGE LANES. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THIS FAILURE RECURRED TEN TIMES OVER A PERIOD OF SEVEN MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM IN MY AUTO, WHICH MANIFEST ITSELF WHEN I SWITCH ON THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. MY HEADLIGHTS WOULD COME ON NORMALLY, BUT INSIDE THE CABIN THE DASHBOARD AND ALL THE OTHER LIGHTS WOULD START BLINKING ON/OFF LIKE THE HAZARD LIGHT. THE POWER DOOR LOCKS WOULD ALSO COME UNLOCK AND WHEN I CHECKED ON THE EXTERNAL LIGHTS, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD BE STEADY, BUT THE INDICATOR (AMBER) LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD BE BLINKING. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO A DEALER BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, BECAUSE AS THEY SAY, THERE ARE NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES SHOWING FOR ELECTRICAL FAULTS. AT ABOUT 110,000 MILES THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON IN MY2005 SONATA. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SCANNED IT. THEY SAID IT WAS EITHER A BAD MODULE OR A BREAK IN A WIRE. I TOOK IT TO A VERY GOOD LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEY INSPECTED THE WIRING AND MODULE IN THE CENTER CONSOLE AND FOUND NOTHING OBVIOUSLY WRONG. THEY PUT IT BACK TOGETHER AND THE LIGHT STAYED OFF FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS. I TOOK IT BACK AGAIN, THE DID THE SAME THING AND IT STAYED OFF FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS. IT HAS BEEN ON SINCE. *TR
2005 HYUNDAI SONATA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO AC COMPRESSOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. *SMD ACCORDING TO THE REPAIR INVOICE, THE AC COMPRESSOR HAD AN ELECTRICAL MELTDOWN. THE AC CLUTCH CAME APART AND THE CLUTCH MELTED ONTO THE COMPRESSOR.
I HAVE NOT OWNED MY 2005 HYUNDAI SONATA FOR ONE YEAR YET AND IS EXPERIENCING A CONFUSING TIME WITH ONE SET OF THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING NOT WORKING AT ALL, THE FUSE WERE CHECKED SO I WAS TOLD THAT IT MAY BE THE SWITCH, ALSO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON THE POWER DOORS ALWAYS LOCK THREE OUT OF THE FOUR DOORS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF EVERY OTHER WEEK THE CODE SAYS ITS A OXYGEN SENSOR. THE LIGHTING IT RESTRAINING ME FORM DRIVING AT NIGHT. *TR

DRIVING FROM DEALER AFTER PURCHASING THIS CAR USED, THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. RETURNED TO DEALER AND WAS "REPAIRED" AND TOLD THAT THEY MUST HAVE LOOSENED THE CONNECTION WHEN THEY VACUUMED THE CAR. SINCE THEN THE AIR BAG LIGHT HAS COME ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. ABOUT 6 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND STAYED ON. TOOK TO MECHANIC, THEY CHECKED THE CODES AND RESET THE LIGHT. THE LIGHT STAYED OFF FOR ANOTHER 6 MONTHS OR SO. THE LIGHT IS BACK ON AGAIN. TOOK TO MY MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS TIME HE COULD NOT RESET THE CODES AND THAT I NEEDED TO TAKE TO HYUNDAII DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER READING OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS YEAR MODEL, I FEEL LIKE THIS IS A SCAM BY HYUNDAII TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY MAKE MONEY OFF OF A CAR THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE DANGEROUS. THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS STILL ON AND I AM DRIVING THE CAR, BUT WILL BE UNABLE TO DO SO WHEN I NEED ANNUAL SAFETY INSPECTION. CAN NOT AFFORD TO PAY $1500+ FOR A REPAIR ON A CAR ONLY WORTH ABOUT $4000. THEY ADVISED THAT THERE WAS AN ABS PROBLEM & I SHOULD IMMEDIATELY TAKE THE CAR INTO THE DEALER AS THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM! I TOOK THE CAR TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER IN DENTON, TX WHO RAN EXTENSIVE DIAGNOSTIC'S AND SAID THE ABS CONTROL MODULE (589203C500) SYSTEM HAD MALFUNCTIONED, WAS DEFECTIVE FINDING ONLY FLUID FLOW TO THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE CA. THE DEALER QUOTED APPROX. $2500 FOR MATERIALS, TAX AND LABOR SAYING THERE WAS NO WARRANT COVERAGE. WE WERE SHOCKED BY BOTH THE COST TO FIX AND THAT AN APPARENT MANUFACTURING DEFECT WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER. AT THE DEALER 10/01/2012, I CALLED HYUNDAI MOTORS USA & FILED CASE #5034644. AFTER QUITE SOME TIME ON THE PHONE THE CASE MANAGER SAID THERE WAS NO WARRANTY COVERAGE, THEY FELT NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEFECT AND ESSENTIALLY THAT IT WAS ALL ON ME TO FIX IT. EVEN AFTER ADDITIONALLY SHARING MY LACK OF EMPLOYMENT & TOUGH FAMILY FINANCIAL SITUATION IT WAS, "SORRY WE CAN DO NOTHING AS YOUR VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY.
