DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE VISORS NOW DROOP INTO LINE OF VISION CAUSING HAZARDOUS CONDITION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE AIR BAG AND SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT HE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE CUSHION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V161000 (AIR BAGS) THAT COULD HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHORTLY AFTER STARTING, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DECLARED DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
AIRBAG AND FRONT PASSENGER LIGHT CAME AND STAYED ON. ON MARCH 20, 2012 DEALER STATED RECALL TOOK MY CAR FOR A WEEK THEN RETURNED NO LIGHTS. THE PROBLEM CAME BACK AGAIN ON AUGUST 14, 2012 AND THEY REFUSE TO DO ANY FURTHER WORK BECAUSE MY 2ND OWNER WARRANTY EXPIRED IN APRIL OF 2012, THE DEALERSHIP WON'T EVEN HONOR THE PARTS/LABOR WARRANTING THEIR WORK FOR 1 YEAR I WAS TOLD THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO DO. THIS IS BAD FOR ME BECAUSE I CHRONICALLY ILL. I BROUGHT A EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM THEM AND AFTER BEING TOLD MY ALL INVOLVED IT WOULD COVER FUTURE AIRBAG/SEAT PROBLEMS THEY SAID WE CAN'T FIND IT IN THE CONTRACT AND ARE GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND. I REALLY TO ILL TO DEAL WITH THIS. WHAT CAN I DO? WHO REGULATES DEALERSHIPS WHEN THEY ARE BEHAVING BADLY. *TR
I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM HYUNDAI . I CALLED AND GOT THE ANSWER EVERY THING IS OK. BUT A FEW DAYS AGO, I TRIED TO ADJUST PASSENGER SIDE SEAT. SUDDENLY THE AIRBAG SIGNAL TURNS ON. I WENT TO THE DEALER TO FIX IT. THEY SAID THERE IS NO ISSUES IN MY CAR. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHERE IS RECALL. AIRBAG IS BIG ISSUE ON SAFETY. I MUST TURN THE AIRBAG LIGHT OFF . BIG PROBLEM IS STILL EXIST. WHAT DO I DO? THEY TRY TO HIDE RECALL. *JS
THE PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP ON ITS OWN. IT DROPPED INTO MY SIDE VIEW AND BLOCKS VISIBILITY. LOOKING ON-LINE THIS SEEMS TO BE A CHRONIC ISSUE ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH. HYUNDAI REFUSES TO REPLACE AT THEIR COST AS THIS IS A ONE YEAR WEAR ITEM. *TR
I WAS MOVING THE SUN VISOR AND HEARD A POPPING SOUND AND THIS LITTLE PIECE OF PLASTIC FELL IN MY LAP. NOW THE SUN VISOR JUST WANTS TO HANG. I CAN'T GET IT TO STAY UP OF STAY IN ONE PLACE. I END UP HOLDING IT UP WITH ONE HAND A GOOD DEAL OF THE TIME. I DON'T THINK THIS IS EXACTLY SAFE. AS MANY OTHERS THAT HAVE THIS FAULT, THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, A LOUD TICKING NOISE EMITTED FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE THEN BEGAN TO DECELERATE. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT IT WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ENGINE FRACTURED AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. 2008 HYUNDAI SONATA BOTH SUN VISORS WON'T STAY UP. WHILE DRIVING THEY BOTH FALL DOWN CAUSING OBSTRUCTION FOR DRIVING. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. HYUNDAI HAS RELEASED A TECHNICAL BULLETIN FOR REPLACING THIS TO DEALERS. BUT THEY ARE DOING IT ONLY UNDER WARRANTY. OIL LEAKING DOWN FROM TIMING COVER ONTO ALTERNATOR AND DOWN TO OIL PAN FOUND DURING ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. TOOK TO ONE DEALER, WAS TOLD NO LEAK. TOOK BACK TO MY MECHANIC, TOOK PICTURES, TOOK TO ANOTHER DEALER AND WAS REPAIRED. FOUND TIMING COVER LEAKING, REMOVE TIMING COVER, V/C GASKETS AND PUMP GASKETS. *TR
WHILE STOPPED AT A BUSY INTERSECTION, WITH ENGINE RUNNING AND CLUTCH TO THE FLOOR (DISENGAGED), THE CAR BEGAN TO LURCH AGAINST THE BRAKE. THE CLUTCH BEGAN ENGAGING BY ITSELF BECAUSE THE CONCENTRIC SLAVE CYLINDER HAD FAILED AT 61,500 MILES. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CAR WAS 1,500 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY, TOTAL COST TO REPAIR WAS $1950.00 AND 3 DAYS OF SERVICE. BECAUSE THE LEAKING HYDRAULIC FLUID "SOAKED" THE CLUTCH, THE $794.00 CLUTCH/PRESSURE PLATE NEEDED REPLACEMENT AS WELL. HYUNDAI WILL NOT HONOR ANY "GOODWILL" ADJUSTMENT. *TR
WE BEGAN QUESTIONING HYUNDAI (TAMERON HYUNDAI IN BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA) WHEN WE NOTICED THAT THIS LIGHT STAYED ON. I ALSO READ IN A HAYNES MANUAL THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AND I MENTIONED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE DEPT. INFORMED US THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THAT PROBLEM AND THAT IT WAS DUE TO THE PASSENGER NOT SITTING PROPERLY IN THE SEAT. WE RECENTLY RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THIS PROBLEM FROM HYUNDAI. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT HYUNDAI HAD SUSPENDED THIS RECALL DUE TO AN OVERLOAD OF VEHICLES IN THE PROCESS OF BEING FIXED. THEY FURTHER INFORMED ME THAT I WOULD NEED TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR THEM TO LOOK AT IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON A WAITING LIST AND THEN A SECOND RECALL NOTICE WOULD BE SENT WHEN THE RECALL WORK SUSPENSION WAS LIFTED. I INFORMED THEM THAT I WOULD LIKE TO BE PUT ON THE RECALL LIST WITHOUT TAKING THE VEHICLE IN "TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT" TO SAVE ME 2.5 HOURS OF DRIVING TIME AND A SECONDARY WAIT TIME AT THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT DO THAT. FINALLY THEY TOLD ME THAT THE REPAIR WOULD REQUIRE THEM TO REMOVE THE SEAT BOTTOM AND SEND IT TO CALIFORNIA FOR THE REPAIR, BUT THEY WOULD RETURN THE VEHICLE TO ME TO USE IN THE MEANTIME. THEY COULD NOT GIVE AN ESTIMATE OF THE TIME THE VEHICLE WOULD BE WITHOUT THE SEAT. THIS IS MY ONLY CAR AND I FREQUENTLY NEED TO USE IT TO TRANSPORT 2 ADULTS AND 2 CHILDREN. THIS WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO DO WITHOUT A SEAT, ESPECIALLY IF THE AMOUNT OF TIME WOULD BE FOR LONGER THAN 1 WEEK. YOUR ASSISTANCE IS REQUESTED IN THIS MATTER. *TR
TRUNK WAS OPENING ON ITS OWN INTERMITTANTLY. THIS WAS OUR 55000 MILE SCHEDULED SERVICE SO WE REPORTED IT. THEY CHECKED AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG BUT TOLD US THEY GREASED THE TRUNK LATCH AND IT SHOULD BE FIXED. A FEW WEEKS LATER IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN. WE THINK ITS AN ELECTRONIC DEFECT, BUT BY THE TIME THEY FIGURE IT OUT WE'LL BE OUT OF WARRANTY. WE DON'T DARE PUT ANYTHING OF VALUE IN THE CAR. *TR
SUN VISOR PROBLEMS - DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR FELL TO A DOWNWARD POSITION AND WOULD NOT HOLD ANY POSITION ADJUSTMENT, NOT EVEN ALL THE WAY UP. MADE DRIVING UNSAFE BECAUSE IT IMPAIRED VISIBILITY. HYUNDAI REPLACED IT UNDER WARRANTY. ABOUT A YEAR LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITH THE SUN VISOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. WITH THE VEHICLE OUT OF WARRANTY, I HAD TO PURCHASE THE PART FOR NEARLY $100 AND REPLACE IT MYSELF. THIS SHOULD DEFINITELY BE A SAFETY RECALL, THANKFULLY IT DIDN'T HAPPEN IN DENSE TRAFFIC. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT INDICATOR ON PASSENGER SEAT WHEN OCCUPIED NOT REGISTERING PERSON IN SEAT IF PASSENGER NOT IN SEAT. SEAT BELT LIGHT INDICATES FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELT WITH NO PASSENGER IN SEAT, NOT SAFETY @ ALL SOMEONE COULD GET INJURED, I DON'T THINK I NEED TO PAY FOR IT TO BE FIXED, MANUFACTURER ISSUE, SAME PROBLEM ON WSB NEWS WITH ANOTHER PERSON, NEEDS ATTENTION SOON. AIR BAG FRONTAL SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE. I CONTACTED ALL THAT SHOULD BE CONCERN BUT DO NOT CARE WANTS MY MONEY AND CAR PAYMENT COMPANY NOT TAKING IT SERIOUSLY. *KB
BEGINNING IN OCTOBER 2011 THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR BEGAN TO "SAG" AND NOT STAY IN THE UP POSITION. THE CONDITION HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE AND NOW THE VISOR IS ALWAYS IN THE FULLY EXTENDED DOWN POSITION WHICH IMPAIRS VISIBILITY. HYUNDAI HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (SERVICE CAMPAIGN T97) THAT COVERS REPLACEMENT OF THE VISOR. HOWEVER, EVEN THOUGH THIS CONDITION STARTED TO APPEAR WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER THE 5 YEAR/60,000 MILE WARRANTY, THE LOCAL DEALER INDICATES THE REPAIR WILL COST $157 BECAUSE THE CURRENT ODOMETER IS NOW OVER 60,000 MILES. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD WITH 2008 HYUNDAI SONATAS AS EVIDENCED BY THE LARGE VOLUME OF CONSUMER COMPLAINTS THAT APPEAR ON VARIOUS WEBSITES. THE RESPONSIBLE THING FOR HYUNDAI TO DO IS REPLACE THESE FAILING VISORS UNDER WARRANTY REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE BECAUSE IT'S A SERIOUS ISSUE OF HIGHWAY SAFETY. *TR
REAR BRAKES WORE OUT. FRONT BRAKES 'LIKE NEW'. SHOULDN'T FRONT BRAKES WEAR OUT FIRST AS THAT IS WHERE THE ENGINE WEIGHT IS? *TR
VISOR BROKE WHEN I TRIED TO PUT IT UP AND NOW WILL NOT STAY UP. IT JUST HANGS IN MY LINE OF VISION AND IS CAUSING A SERIOUS VISIBILITY PROBLEM. I CHECKED ON LINE AND SAW STORY AFTER STORY OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS DEFINATELY A DEFECTIVE PART THAT IS A HAZARD AND I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TT
WHEN I BOUGHT A NEW 2008 HYUNDAI SONATA, I SOON EXPERIENCED A SQUEALING SOUND FROM THE REAR BRAKES. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICED THE BRAKES. THEY SAID IT WAS THE SHIMS CAUSING THE BRAKES TO SEIZE AND KEEP FROM SLIDING PROPERLY. WITHIN 30,000 MILES THE REAR BRAKES WERE WORN OUT. I NOW HAVE 54,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND THE REAR BRAKE PADS ARE WORN OUT. I DISCOVERED FROM MY MECHANIC THAT THIS MODEL IS KNOWN FOR A PREMATURE WEAR PROBLEM WITH THE REAR BRAKES. THE PADS SEIZED IN PLACE UNABLE TO BACK OFF THE ROTOR. I'M PROMPTED TO NOTIFY YOU DUE TO THE MANY POSTINGS OF THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET. I'M NOT SURE IF IT IS A WEATHER CONCERN WITH CORROSION OR A DESIGN FLAW IN THE CALIPER. *TR
ON MY 2008 HYUNDAI SONATA - FIRST MY PASSENGER SIDE AND NOW MY DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR DOES NOT STAY IN POSITION. NO MATTER HOW YOU MANIPULATE THE VISORS (ALL THE WAY UP, OR ATTEMPTING TO BLOCK THE SUN) IT FALLS TO THE SAME POSITION WHICH IMPAIRS THE DRIVERS VIEW OF THE ROAD. I HAVE HAD TO SAFETY PIN MY VISOR TO THE ROOF OF THE CAR, WHICH IS UNSAFE WHEN DRIVING INTO THE SUN. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM IN PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS AND HYUNDAI NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING TO REMEDIATE THIS PROBLEM, REGARDLESS OF THE MILEAGE ON THE CAR. I'VE ALSO READ THAT EVEN IF YOU GET THEM FIXED, THEY CONTINUE TO BREAK DOWN THE ROAD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE REAR DRIVER 'S SIDE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND DISPLAYED AN INACCURATE PRESSURE READING. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE CONTROL MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
SUN VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP. FALLS DOWN EXACTLY AT THE HEIGHT OF MY FOREHEAD SO THAT IF I GET IN A WRECK, MY FOREHEAD WILL EXACTLY HIT THE "EDGE" OF THE VISOR AND CRUSH MY FOREHEAD. SINCE THE DIRECTION OF IMPACT AGAINST THE VISOR IS EXACTLY IN THE DIRECTION OF THE WIDTH OF THE VISOR, MAJOR FATALITY WOULD OCCUR. (THINK OF HITTING YOUR HEAD AGAINST THE "SIDE" OF A PIECE OF CARDBOARD - NO HARM DONE. NOW THINK OF HITTING YOUR HEAD AGAINST THE "EDGE" OR END OF THE CARDBOARD - MAJOR DAMAGE TO YOUR FOREHEAD. *TR
THE ESC OFF LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD OF MY 2008 HYUNDAI SONATA COMES ON AFTER IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR A FEW MILES. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS STOP WORKING. IF I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART THE CAR, THE ESC OFF LIGHT IS UNLIT AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS FUNCTION NORMALLY. I UNDERSTAND THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2006 AND 2007 SONATAS FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V280000) THAT INVOLVED A DEFECTIVE STOP LAMP SWITCH. MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I MUST FIX THIS PROBLEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE DUE TO EXTREME SAFETY CONCERNS FOR MY FAMILY. *KB

MY 2008 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS HAS A "PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF" LIGHT THAT LIGHTS UP EVEN WHEN A GROWN ADULT IS IN THE SEAT. I FEAR THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT EVEN WHEN AN ADULT IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS LIGHT HAS BEEN ILLUMINATING FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS. I TOOK IT TO A HYUNDAI DEALER IN ILLINOIS, AND THE DEALER REFUSED TO FIX THE ISSUE, SAYING IT WAS NOT COVERED BY A CERTAIN RECALL. *TR
PASSENGER SIDE VISOR STARTED TO FALL DOWN OBSTRUCTING VISION. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE VISOR AND NOW THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR IS DOING THE SAME THING OBSTRUCTING THE VISION OF THE DRIVER WHILE DRIVING CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE CORRODED. SUN VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP OR IN ANY POSITION RELIABLY. THE SUN VISOR DROPS DOWN CONSTANTLY WITH ANY VIBRATION DURING NORMAL DRIVING. SUN VISOR DROOPS OR DROPS DOWN AT ANY TIME OBSTRUCTING THE DRIVERS VIEW OF THE ROAD. *TR

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO USE THE SUN-VISOR BY PULLING IT DOWN, THE VISOR WOULD NOT MOVE, THEN MADE A POPPING SOUND. THE VISOR THEN SAGGED, AND WILL NOT RETURN TO THE UPRIGHT POSITION. AFTER RESEARCH, I SEE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, ESPECIALLY IN STATES WITH HOT/HUMID CONDITIONS, SUCH AS WHERE I LIVE (IN MISSISSIPPI). THE VISOR WILL NOT STAY IN ANY POSITION EXCEPT STRAIGHT DOWN, AND IMPEDES VISIBILITY, AND BECOMES A HAZARD WHEN GETTING INTO THE VEHICLE. *TR
THE PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP AND IS A DANGER BECAUSE IT HANGS DOWN IN VIEW. ITS IN THE ARM WHERE SOMETHING IS BROKEN, NEEDS REPLACED. *TR
THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR STARTED FALLING DOWN BY ITSELF WHEN YOU HIT A BUMP OR JUST FOR NO REASON FALLING DOWN HITTING ME IN THE HEAD AND BLOCKING VIEW UNEXPECTANTLY. NOW IT NO LONGER STAYS UP CAN NO LONGER USE HAVE TAPED UP. *TT

THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ALSO FAILED AND THE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SUN VISOR AND ADVISED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR FAILED, BUT THE PASSENGER SEAT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE SENSOR COULD NOT BE REMOVED. THE AIR BAG FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92, 5000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THE AIR BAG LAMP WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WAS DEFECTIVE, AS A RESULT THE PASSENGER SIDE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V161000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
I HAVE BEEN CONCERNED ABOUT THE REAR BRAKES DUE TO THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON MYCARSTATS.COM. OFTEN WHEN I GET THE CAR SERVICED BY THE DEALER I HAVE MENTIONED THAT THEY SHOULD CHECK THE REAR BRAKES. THIS TIME WAS THE 45000 MILE SERVICE AND I BROUGHT A PRINTOUT OF THE 26 EXISTING COMPLAINTS. THE SERVICE MANAGER ASSURED ME THAT THEY ALWAYS CHECK AND CLEAN REAR BRAKES, CALIPERS, ROTORS, ETC TO PREVENT AN EARLY FAILURE. SHORTLY AFTER LEAVING THE CAR, THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLS ME TO SAY THAT INDEED THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE WORN OUT AND NEEDED REPLACING. I TOLD HIM I THOUGHT THAT IT SHOULD BE UNDER THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT WAS A KNOWN DEFECT IN THESE SONATAS. HE SAID BRAKES ONLY HAD A 1 YEAR WARRANTY AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY. THERE WAS NO SOUND OR WARNING IN ADVANCE. IF IT WASN'T FOR THE MYCARSTATS.COM WEBSITE, I WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN TO KEEP ASKING. THE FRONT BRAKES ARE FINE AND HAVE NOT YET BEEN REPLACED. DRIVING IS MOSTLY HIGHWAY. IS THERE A CLASS ACTION SUIT FOR THIS YET? *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
TOOK CAR TO DEALER FOR ANNUAL STATE VEHICLE INSPECTION AND TO HAVE "CHIRPING" NOISE FROM BRAKES CHECKED. REAR BRAKE PADS WERE AT 3/32"; MIN ALLOWED IS 2/32". FRONT PADS OK AT +7/32". REPLACED REAR PADS, MACHINED ROTORS. MILEAGE WAS 23,226; CAR PURCHASED FEB2008 AND WAS REGULARLY SERVICED AT DEALER. DEALER SA ADVISED THAT PAD WEAR WAS NORMAL AND THAT 'ON THIS MODEL THE REAR BRAKES ALWAYS WEAR FASTER'. WHEN THIS WAS DISPUTED THE SA SAID THAT CORROSION ON CALIPER DID NOT ALLOW PADS TO WITHDRAW AND THAT CONSTANT CONTACT WORE OUT THE PADS. WHEN ASKED ABOUT WARRANTY COVERAGE SA SAID THAT BRAKES ARE ONLY COVERED FOR 12 MONTHS. SUBSEQUENTLY NOTED THAT ON SIDE OF CAR WITH STICKING CALIPER THAT THE PAINT ON BOTH STEEL WHEELS HAS PEELED AND WHEELS HAVE RUSTED. TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED, FRONT-TO-BACK, SEVERAL TIMES SINCE NEW. POSSIBLE THAT EXCESSIVE HEAT FROM DRAGGING PADS OVERHEATED WHEELS AND DAMAGED PAINT. ALSO POSSIBLE THAT THERE WAS EXCESSIVE HEAT TO WHEEL BEARINGS. WILL HAVE THIS CHECKED AT NEXT SERVICE, OR SOONER. THIS PREMATURE REAR PAD WEAR IS NOT NORMAL FOR HYUNDAI. ALSO, PRESENTLY DRIVING A 2001 ELANTRA THAT WENT 60K+ BEFORE NEEDING BRAKES. NEVER OWNED ANY CAR THAT HAD REAR BRAKES WEAR BEFORE FRONT. THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS REGISTERED INDICATES THAT THIS IS A DESIGN/MATERIAL ISSUE THAT NEEDS CORRECTING BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT. *TR

WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR WAS PULLED DOWN, THE VISOR COULD NOT BE RETURNED TO THE UP POSITION. THE VISOR IS IN LINE OF SIGHT OF THE DRIVER. I REPLACED THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR AND NOW THE PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR IS DOING THE SAME THING. A WEEK AGO THE ESC OFF LIGHT TURNED ON AND NOW IT TURNS ON RANDOMLY BUT RESETS IT SELF WHEN CAR IS TURNED OFF.
I OWN A 2008 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHEN I WAS GETTING IN TO MY CAR, THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE POPPED AND BROKE ABOUT A YEAR AGO. NOT ONLY DOES IT OBSTRUCT MY VIEW IN THE WINDSHIELD BUT IT ALSO BLOCKS A PORTION OF MY REAR VIEW MIRROR. I HAVE HAD IT REPLACED ONCE BEFORE AND IT BROKE AGAIN ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. THE PART IS EXPENSIVE, DIFFICULT TO FIND, AND EVEN THE DEALERS HAVE TO PLACE A BACK ORDER ON THE PART. DEALER SAYS ITS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. TOOK CAR TO ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD THIS IS NOT NORMAL AND BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE REPAIRED EVERY 5-6 MONTHS, THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS FAULTY AND IF NOT REPAIRED IT COULD CAUSE THE BRAKES TO FAIL. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LEFT REAR BRAKES WERE GRINDING ABNORMALLY. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE BRAKES WERE WORN AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH REAR BRAKES AND PADS. NO FAILURE OCCURRED. THE PROBLEM WAS DETECTED BEFORE FAILURE. I HAD THE BRAKES CHECKED AT JUST UNDER 45,600 MILES EXPECTING TO HAVE THE BRAKE PADS REPLACE. INSPECTION SHOWED THAT THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS WERE MADE OF DEFECTIVE METAL WHICH CORRODED AND PITTED BADLY. IT DESTROYED THE OUTER PART OF THE BRAKE PADS SO THEY DID NOT MAKE CONTACT WITH THE ROTOR. LESS THAN ONE HALF OF THE BRAKE PAD WAS PROVIDING BRAKING ABILITY. THE ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED ON THE REAR WHEELS AS WELL AS ALL BRAKE PADS ON ALL 4 WHEELS. THE BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENT IS EXPECTED MAINTENANCE. THE REAR WHEEL ROTORS WERE DEFECTIVE PARTS. *TR
I WAS UNAWARE WHEN I HAVE TURNED ON MY PARKING LIGHTS - NOT MY HEADLIGHTS. DASHBOARD LIGHTS ARE THE SAME FOR EITHER CHOICE. TOO OFTEN I AM UNAWARE WHEN I HAVE NOT TURNED MY HEADLIGHTS ON.. DEALER RESPONSE WAS - NO CARS GIVE YOU VISUAL INDICATION OF THE SELECTED LEVEL OF OUTSIDE LIGHTING. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND HAS CAUSE NEAR MISSES OFTEN AT DUSK. *TR
REAR BRAKES ON MY SONATA STARTED GRINDING AT 25000 MILES. CONTACTED HYUNDAI HEADQUARTERS BY EMAIL AND THEY STATED THE BRAKES WERE OUT OF WARRANTY AND NO RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. I WAS INFORMED BY THEM TO TAKE IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER. SINCE THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AT THIS MILEAGE I HAD TAKEN IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO IS STATE CERTIFIED.
