HAVE A CLUCKING NOISE EMANATING FROM BEHIND THE COUNSEL INLINE WITH STEERING COLUMN. I CHECKED ONLINE AND FOUND A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR HYUNDAI AND KIA VEHICLES. I ALSO LOCATED SOME VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE ON THE REPLACEMENT OF THE PART THAT IS THE CAUSE OF MOST NOISES. THE PART IN QUESTION IS A FLEXIBLE RUBBER COUPLING IN THE MDPS (MOTOR DRIVEN POWER STEERING) ASSEMBLY. THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR HYUNDAI IS TSB 14-ST-002-1. I FOUND A PDF WITH THE INFORMATION WITH PICTURES ONLINE AND THE DATE THAT IS STATED WITHIN IT IS MAY 2014. IT DOES APPEAR THAT THEY HAVE A UPDATED REPLACEMENT COUPLING TO REPLACE THE ONES THAT ARE FAILING. WHEN THE COUPLING FAILS, IT RESULTS IN METAL ON METAL CONTACT. WITH THAT SAID, METAL ON METAL CONTACT OVER TIME MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE MDSP AND HAVE A HIGHER DOLLAR AMOUNT IN REPAIRS. I AM HESITANT IN DRIVING MY 2012 SONATA VERY MUCH AS I AM WORRIED ABOUT SAFETY. THE SAFETY OF OTHERS ALONG AS MYSELF.
THE STEERING WHEEL MAKES A CLICK WHEN TURNED LEFT AND RIGHT STARTED ABOUT A YEAR AFTER BUYING THE CAR USED AND HAS GOTTEN WORSE WITH TIME. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE STEERING COLUMN MOTOR MDPS RUBBER COUPLER LINK HAD BEGAN TO FAIL. THIS CAUSE A DEAD ZONE IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHICH GETS WORSE WITH TIME. THE LINK IS A KNOWN FAILING PART AND COST $10 TO REPLACE THE PART BUT 300 FOR LABOR DUE TO THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDING TO BE COMPLETELY REMOVED TO REPLACE THE FAULTY RUBBER PART. *TR
STEERING WHEEL WILL SHAKE RAPIDLY WHEN DRIVING. ESPECIALLY WHEN I'M DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE.
MY CAR STARTED MAKING THIS KNOCKING NOISE IN THE MOTOR
CLICKING NOISE WHEN STEERING,TURNING, AND DRIVING INTO A PARKING SPOT. NEVER HEARD ANY OTHER CAR MAKING CLICKING NOISE BEFORE THIS CAR AND I HAVE DRIVEN MANY DIFFERENT MAKE AND MODEL CARS! HYUNDAI SHOULD ISSUE AN ORDER TO RECALL THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE SEEN MANY HYUNDAI SONATA OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO.

THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND CONFIRMED THAT PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
3/7/18 LEFT VEHICLE FOR TESTING AND REPAIR AT CARDINALE AUTOMOTIVE GROUP IN CORONA, CA. 3/8/18 PICKED UP CAR IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION FOR $800. ARRIVED HOME TO LEARN OF RECALL FOR MY EXACT REPAIR. IT APPEARS I AM OVER MILEAGE FOR RECALL, HOWEVER, I REQUEST TO BE INCLUDED WHEN RECALL IS EXTENDED. THIS WAS/IS YOUR PROBLEM!
I JUST ARRIVED TO MY DESTINATION PARKED THE CAR AND WAS SITITING IN THE DRIVER SEAT, WITHIN MINUTES I HEARD THIS REALLY LOUD NOISE, I FROZE, I THOUGHT SOMEONE HAD RAN INTO THE BACK OF ME THE BANG WAS EXTREMELY LOUD. I SAW GLASS PARTICLES COMING DOWN MY WINSHEILD GOT OUT THE CAR TO LOOK AROUND THE VEHICLE WHEN I OBSERVED THE BROKEN GLASS HAD COME FROM THE SUNROOF - IT SHATTERED AND CREATED A LARGE HOLE.
FAILURE OF BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH ALLOWING STARTING CAR IN PARK AND SHIFTING TO DRIVE,WITH OUT PRESSING BRAKES.SAME AS SAFETY RECALL ON ELANTRA. I BET IT HAS THE SAME FAULTY PART .
THE STEERING COLUMN VIBRATES AND MAKES NOISE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS AND WHEN GOING OVER 65 MPH ON THE FREEWAY THE WHEEL VIBRATES AND MAKES NOISE AND FEELS LOOSE. THIS PROBLEM HAS BERN REPORTED AND THERE IS A CAMPIGN FOR 2010 MODELS, BUT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE MY CAR IS A 2012 MODEL.
MY DASHBOARD IS SEVERELY CRACKING OVER TOP OF WHERE THE AIRBAG IS PLACED. IF I WAS TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT THOSE PIECES OF DASH PARTICLE ARE GOING TO FLY INTO THE FACE OF THE OCCUPANTS. IT IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL CAR I HAVE SPOKEN TO NUMEROUS SONATA OWNERS AND THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE TRIED SPEAKING TO HYUNDAI ABOUT IT AND I WAS TOLD UNTIL IT WAS ACTUALLY RECALLED THEY WERE NOT REPAIRING ANYTING BUT AT THE DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. AND AN UPHOLSTERY SHOP TOLD ME THEY CAN'T REPAIR IT EITHER BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND CAN STOP THE AIRBAG FROM DEPLOYING PROPERLY. THE PICTURES I AM PROVIDING REALLY DO IT NO JUSTICE THE CAMERA IS NOT PICKING THEM UP THAT WELL THERE ARE AT LEAST SEVEN OR EIGHT CRACKS ACROSS THE DASHBOARD CURRENTLY AND I LIVE IN FLORIDA WHERE CARS GET VERY HOT AND IS DOING NOTHING BUT GETTING WORSE I UNDERSTAND IT'S NOT ABOUT LOOKS BUT MY WIFE IS SCARED THAT IF WE WERE TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT CHUNKS OF THE DASHBOARD ARE GOING TO FLY INTO HER FACE OR OUR CHILDREN'S FACE WE BOUGHT THIS CAR BECAUSE IT HAD A 5-STAR CRASH TEST RATING BUT IT SEEMS LIKE SINCE I BOUGHT IT IT'S HAD MAJOR SAFETY RECALLS ON A YEARLY BASIS AND EVEN THOUGH WE AS CONSUMERS BRING THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE HYUNDAI REPRESENTATIVES THEY WILL NOT REPAIR ANYTHING UNLESS THEY ARE MADE TO BY THE NHTSA. JUST LIKE THE ENGINE RECALL AND THE BRAKE PEDAL STOPPER RECALL THAT I STILL HAVE NOT HAD REPAIRED IT'S ONE ISSUE AFTER ANOTHER.
STEERING COLUMN MOTOR MDPS RUBBER FLEX COUPLER REPAIR. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO HAVE A RECALL ON THIS - STEERING IS OFF AND MISGUIDED! DANGEROUS TO MANUVEUR CAR ON THE ROAD, TRAFFIC AND ON THE FREEWAY. CAN'T JUDGE/GUESS THE STEERING PLAY IF UNFORESEEN HAPPENS AND DRIVER HAS TO ACT QUICK TO GET CAR TO SAFETY. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE SONATA'S AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BECAUSE THE STEERING COLUMN HAS TO BE TAKEN APART TO FIT IT.

IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE AIR BAG CONTROL UNIT (ACU) MAY SHORT CIRCUIT, PREVENTING THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS, SEAT BELT PRETENSIONERS, AND SIDE AIR BAGS FROM DEPLOYING.

WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, ENGINE MADE LOUD NOISE (NOT CONTINUOUS) BUT SEVERAL TIMES. WAS LESS THAN A MILE WHEN THE POWER CUT OUT AND I DRIFTED TO THE MERGE AREA AND OFF TO THE SIDE. NO INDICATION THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG- NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, JUST STOPPED. HAD AUTO TOWED TO OUR MECHANIC AND HE DID A THOROUGH CHECK - INDICATED THERE WERE SLIVERS OF WHAT APPEARED TO BE METALLIC PIECES IN OIL (OIL WAS JUST CHANGED LESS THAT 1000 MILES). MECHANIC DECLARED ENGINE WAS DEAD-

THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUTONATION EAST (28825 EUCLID AVENUE, WICKLIFE, OH 44092, (440) 296-3020), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,067.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD MY CAR IS KNOCKING OUT OF GEAR, NOT GETTING ACCELERATION. PRETTY CERTAIN ITS THE GEAR SHIFTER. ALSO A BURNING SMELL COMES FROM MY MOTOR.
STEERING CATCHES OR STICKS IN CENTER POSITION WHILE IN MOTIONS. REQUIRES EXTRA EFFORT TO MOVE PAST THE STICKING POINT WHICH RESULTS IN A JERK IN THE STEERING WHICH IS QUITE DANGEROUS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ROCKING THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH PRODUCES A VERY CLOUD CLICK SOUND AS WELL.
THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM, THE PLASTIC THAT THE TAIL LIGHT BULB IS ATTACHED TO IS MELTING AND I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TAIL LIGHT CASING ALREADY RECENTLY. SINCE THE REPLACEMENT, I REPLACES A BULB AND THE PLASTIC IS STARTING TO LOOK BURNED AGAIN. TWO WEEKS SINCE I REPLACED THAT BULB, THE LIGHT IS OUT AGAIN.EVERYTIME I HAVE THIS PROBLEM MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. AFTER A FEW DAYS IT GOES OFF. WHEN I TAKE CALL THE DEALER THEY SAID IF THE LIGHT GOES OFF THEY CANNOT CHECK THE PROBLEM, THIS PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT 3 YEARS AFTER I GOT THIS CAR AND NOW MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AGAIN AND WILL NOT GO OFF.THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ALWAY ON SINCE A YEAR AGO. NO ACCIDENT. LOOKS LIKE THERE ARE A LOT OF SIMILAR ISSUES WITH SONATA

AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WERE METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL AND THAT THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED FOR AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER (LESTER GLENN HYUNDAI, 386 ROUTE 37 E, TOMS RIVER, NJ 08753, (732) 691-4108). THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V152000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THE REMEDY WOULD PROVIDE A PERMANENT SOLUTION BY REPLACING THE PART. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,918.
IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS MY VEHICLE HAS STARTED TO HAVE ELECTRICAL ISSUES RELATED TO THE STEERING COLUMN. IF I TURN ON MY RIGHT TURN SIGNAL, THE HEADLIGHTS BLINK OR JUST TURN OFF. THE RADIO WILL SOMETIMES TURN OFF AS WELL. IF I PRESS ANY OF THE VOLUME BUTTONS ON THE STEERING WHEEL FOR THE RADIO, THE CAR THINKS I'M TRYING TO INITIATE VOICE COMMANDS TO CALL SOMEONE. IF I TRY TO TURN ON MY HIGH BEAMS, SOMETIMES IT WORKS, OTHER TIMES THE HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF. ALL OF THESE THINGS HAPPEN WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY OR MOVING ON ANY TYPE OF ROAD. THE VEHICLE IS DESIGNED SO THAT IF YOU LEAVE THE HEADLIGHTS ON, REMOVE THE KEYS, AND LOCK THE VEHICLE, THE HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF. IT STILL DOES THIS, BUT THE LIGHTS WILL TURN ON AGAIN LATER AND TRY TO KILL THE BATTERY.
SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO PARK THE GEAR GETS STUCK
CAR WOULD NOT START. BATTERY DEAD . REPLACED IT. AFTER 4 BATTERIES DEALER SAID IT WAS THE ON STAR DEVICE. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. $800 TO REPLACE IT. HAD THEM UNPLUG IT. ONE WEEK LATER WONT START. NOW DEALER SAID IT'S THE RADIO. APPROXIMATELY $ 1,100 TO REPLACE IT. NOT COVERED AGAIN. CAR HAS 45,000 MILES /? WHAT IS THE 10 YEAR 100,000 MILE WARRANTY GOOD FOR ?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND WAS DRIVEN, BUT SEIZED AGAIN AND FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 126,000.
MY BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF, EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND THE KEY WAS REMOVED. EVEN THOUGH300,000 SAME MODEL CARS HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, MY EXACT VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN PART OF THE RECALL AND I HAD TO PAY $250 TO FIX IT. I CALLED HYUNDAI (CASE 10974149) AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR.
SON DRIVING CAR AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. SON WAS ABLE TO GET TO VACANT LOT. SON TRIED TO CRANK CAR 2 TIMES AND IT WOULD NOT START. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FLASHED ON AND OFF ABOUT 5 MINUTES AFTER CUTTING ON AND OFF. SON GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. SON RAN TO BUSHES AND 5 MINUTES OR LESS CAR ENGINE BURST INTO FLAMES.
SPEED CONTROL INTERMITTENTLY NOT WORKING. NOW DOESN'T WORK AT ALL. HAVE HAD IT CHECKED MULTIPLE TIMES BUT BECAUSE IT'S INTERMITTENT THEY SAID NOTHING COULD BE DONE.
RECENTLY MY STEERING WHEEL HAS BEEN MAKING A CLICKING NOISE WHILE BOTH DRIVING AND IDLE, WHEN IT IS TURNED LEFT OR RIGHT. ONCE I GET TO A SPEED OF ABOUT 60 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGINS TO VIBRATE VIGOROUSLY AND IS EXTREMELY LOUD. AT TIMES, MY DRIVING FEELS UNSTABLE AS IF MY CAR IS GOING TO LOSE CONTROL.
I WAS DRIVING IN DOWNTOWN CHICAGO WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN MY CAR ENGINE MADE A KNOCKING NOISE AND IT SHUT DOWN I ROLLED TO THE SIDE STARTED IT AGAIN BUT SAME NOISE HAPPENED I CONTACTED MY MECHANIC HE SAID IT MIGHT BE OUT OF OUT I TOWED IT TO NEAREST MECHANIC SHOP THEY SAID YOUR ENGINE BLOW UP THEY WANTED TO CHARGE 4500 DOLLARS PLUS TAX TO GET USED ENGINE SO I STARTED TO CALL OTHER MECHANICS TO LOOK FOR CHEAPER SERVICE AND ONE OF THE MECHANIC TOLD ME BEFORE I DO THAT I SHOULD CONTACT HYUNDAI BECAUSE THEY HAD RECALL FOR ENGINES ON MY CAR. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI MOTORS AND THEY SAID ITS TRUE I TYPED IN ON THEIR WEBSITE MY VIN NUMBER AND IT GAVE ME 4 CODES FOR RECALL THAT WERE NOT COMPLETED AND IT GAVE ME OPTION TO SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT SO I TOWED MY CAR FROM ONE SHOP TO THAT HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. THEY INSPECTED IT AND SAID I WILL NOT BE COVERED BECAUSE I HAVE 143000 MILES ON MY CAR. I JUST THINK ITS CLEARLY NOT MY FAULT BECAUSE NON OF THE INDICATOR LIGHTS OR WARNING LIGHTS WENT OFF BEFORE MY ENGINE DIED. I AM JUST SO UPSET BECAUSE I AM STILL PAYING FOR THIS CAR AND NOW I HAVE TO GET NEW MOTOR THAT IS SO EXPENSIVE JUST BECAUSE THEIR COMPUTER OR ENGINE HAS FAILED TO LET ME KNOW THAT IS SOMETHING WRONG GOING ON INSIDE OF THE ENGINE.
ON INTERSTATE DRIVING AND CAR LOST POWER WITH NO WARNING.
HYUNDAI HAD A MASSIVE RECALL 15V-759 FOR 2011-2012 SONOATA (AND OTHER VEHICLES) FOR THE BRAKE PEDAL STOPPER PAD. IT WAS DEFECTIVE AND WORE OUT WHICH MADE THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON. FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON OUR VEHICLE DOEN'T SHOW UP ON THE RECAL EVEN THOUGHT IT HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY CHARGED US TO FIX IT. WE CALLED THE HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS CASE # 10929935 AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT HELP US. WHY? IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM AND IS A 2012 SONATA WITH THE SAME DEFECTED BREAK PEDAL PAD! THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAYED ON AND DRAINED THE BATTERY
MY BRAKE TAIL LIGHT HAS A SHORT NO BRAKES LIGHTS ON ONE SIDE
WHEN CAR TURNS LOUD CLICKING SOUND COMES FROM STEERING WHEEL. WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS STEERING COLUMN MAKES LOUD NOISE.

AFTER SHUTTING THE CAR OFF AND TRYING TO RESTART IT, THE ENGINE BEGAN SMOKING. DURING THIS DRIVE ON LOCAL STREETS, I NEVER WENT ABOVE 45 MPH AND WASN'T DRIVING THE CAR HARD.
AROUND 60,000 MILES, MY DRIVER'S SIDE BRAKE LIGHT HARNESS MELTED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. AROUND 80,000 MILES, MY PASSENGER BRAKE LIGHT HARNESS MELTED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. AIR BAG LIGHT WAS TURNED OFF WHEN PURCHASING USED CAR FROM HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN 2016. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND TOLD NO RECALL ON AIR BAGS, AND THEY DON'T KNOW IF IT HAS TAKATA AIR BAGS IN IT. I NEED TO PAY $69 TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED.

I WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO RECALLS SO I HEADED TOWARDS THE DEALERSHIP FOR A DIAGNOSIS. SOON AFTER GETTING BACK ON THE ROAD A LOUD BANG OCCURRED AND THE EXHAUST STARTED SMOKING. I PULLED OVER TO CALL FOR A TOW AND AGAIN OPENED THE HOOD. I NOTICED A FIRE HAD STARTED UNDER THE ENGINE SO I GOT MY WIFE OUT OF THE CAR AND THE CAR BECAME FULLY ENGULFED. CALLED 911 AND A FIRE UNIT RESPONDED TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. CAR WAS THEN TOWED.
