After making a knocking noise for a few miles, the engine seized and the car completely stalled. I had to coast through traffic to stop on the side of the road. Would not start again. I towed the car to service department of Hyundai dealer in Lindon, Utah, who diagnosed a seized engine and is now assessing the seized engine for warranty coverage under the premature bearing wear recall.
The contact owned a 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. The contact stated while driving at 20-30 MPH, he heard an abnormal beeping sound and the vehicle experienced a loss of automotive power. The brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond and remained on the floorboard, the steering wheel locked, and the vehicle crashed into a fire hydrant. There was severe damage to the vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. There were no warning lights illuminated. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it was totaled. The contact sustained injuries in the head and sought medical attention. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. I have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata, with a build date of November 15, 2012. There is a NHTSA campaign, number 20V121000, that corresponds with Hyundai recall 189. The recall describes a fuel leak on the top of the engine, as well as "increasing the risk of engine compartment fire". My vehicle is currently experiencing the exact issue stated in the recall. According to the part 573 safety recall report 20V-121, the affected vehicles were produced at the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama with the production dates of November 26, 2012 - January 16, 2014, meaning I missed the "cut off" by 11 days. With that being said, local Hyundai dealerships and Hyundai cooperate with not perform the recall nor will the allow me to purchase the affected part so I can make the repair myself. In the mean time I am stuck with a vehicle that is leaking fuel onto the top of my engine, and fumes filling the cabin of my vehicle.
Brake light flashing while driving in result my brakes touch down to the floor resulting me from braking properly
Check engine light began flashing and my 2013 Hyundai Sonata went into "limp" mode. I checked the code with a diagnostic tool and a P1326 Knock Sensor Detection System code was returned. The car burns oil at an alarming rate, I changed my oil 4,000 miles ago and it burned nearly 4 quarts of oil. There's 133k miles on the car. The dealership in Escondido, California keeps giving me the run around and is trying to charge me full price despite there being a well known engine failure/rod knock recall/campaign with this model/year car.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while her husband was driving 60 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated her husband was informed that a fire had started under the vehicle and exited the vehicle. There were no injuries sustained. The fire was extinguished with the assistance of the emergency services. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.
While driving on the Mass pike my engine quit and decelerated without warning resulting in my wife and I barely making it off the road without causing an accident. There is a known flaw with this model 2013 Hyundai Sonata which caused a recall on Jan. 22,2021 that I had not received a notice on. That lack of notice could have easily caused our death that day. The dealer that has the car said the motor needs to be replaced. All owners of Hyundai Theta engines driven vehicles should be made aware before someone dies.
The night before, a light came on as I got home and when I looked it up it said "not urgent, but take to a dealer to have it inspected." I parked it. The next morning, before I even got out of the driveway, a BIG warning light came on saying "PULL OVER AND PARK CAR. HAVE IT LOOKED IT BY A DEALER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE." I pulled back to the house and turned it off. It would never start again. I had it towed to the dealership, who have tried several parts and so far nothing has worked. They do not know how to fix it. It is at Grayson Hyundai in Knoxville, TN. There were no other warning signs, messages, or symptoms prior to it dying. The whole hybrid system or electric battery component system failed. Since it just died without warning, it would have been extremely dangerous if I had been on a public road instead of my driveway, with no where to go and no recourse.
Hyundai Sonata Hybrid 2013 - computer giving message " Check Charging System " while on the highway speed drops to 40 mpg. I had to stop the car on the roadside .. Hyundai dealer are not helpful. You go to them they just want to charge us $400 for diagnostic test. last week, Hyundai dealer told my car problem is with engine belt and tensioner assembly and I charged $900. but it did not fix the issue. I am not sure if above part was really needed to replaced, now the message on charging system and engine safety ( picture attached ) is too frequent. Ref. engine recall on this 2013 sonata hybrid, Hyundai dealer say car life is finish with 114K miles. and car engine is not issue as decide by Hyundai head office.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle loss motive power. The vehicle was not able to be restarted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V226000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the Vin was not included. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

There are multiple issue with this car since last a year or more. ( picture attached) * At times computer flashes below message .. " Hyundai System Warning Safety Stop Do not Drive" * Steering Lock up * While driving a screeching sound and then it goes away. we received the recall notice and my daughter Jeranica took it to the Hyundai dealer for repair. They charged us $900 mentioning the issue is with belt & assembly and engine is ok. we informed then of all the above issue. Even after repairing the above we still have the same issue with the car. It look like Hyundai dealer are using this opportunity to rip-off the customer instead of actually fixing the issue. we still have above issue with, car computer asking us to stop on highway and steering lockup, dealer does not seem to be interested in fixing the issue. At one time he mentioned we have 114K mileage on the car and the life of engine is finish.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light was illuminated on the control panel. The contact also stated a loud knocking noise came from the engine compartment. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed the engine needing to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was relating the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 17V226000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 121,140.
My car has stalled five different times over the past week. No warning lights come on. I took my car to the garage and they had the same stalling issue. They cannot locate the problem. I see on other websites that this is a problem for other Sonata owners.
While driving down the street noticed several people blowing and yelling “your car is on fire “ I was able to steer the car to the right, brakes were gone, as I jumped out, the front of the car was fully Engulfed in flames. The front of the car was totally destroyed by fire.
Engine oil evaporates Motor could lock up
The 1st thing that happened was the inside dashboard lights would flicker from nighttime mode to daytime mode. Took it to dealership and they could not get it to replicate. Now when it happens the headlights turn off. It happens a lot more often and seems to be something to do with the column.
Check engine light began flashing and my 2013 Hyundai Sonata went into "limp" mode whiIe my wife was driving on the interstate. In "limp" mode it made it difficult and dangerous for her to exit the highway nearly being involved in a crash. She then "Limped" her way home. I checked the code with a diagnostic tool and a P1326 Knock Sensor Detection System code was returned. We took the vehicle to our local Hyundai dealer who reports the engine needs replaced which is part of Hyundai's recall/ campaign 17V226000. After the dealer trying on our behalf for several weeks to have the manufacturer replace the engine, the manufacturer now refuses to replace it. This is the second Hyundai I've had the engine fail on. The first one in a 2014 Sante Fe, the motor completely locked up. So what am I to do drive this one till the motor locks up on it? I dont think so!!! HELP
I was driving and the car had black smoke coming from the exhaust and it cut off, wouldn’t crank back up
I love my 2013 Hyundai Sonata SE, but with that being said I hate driving it. When on the road the 2013 has the same exact issue that the 2011's had, it will constantly wander in and out of the lane making it nearly impossible to keep a straight line. Its very fatiguing having to keep moving the steering wheel back and forth just to keep it straight. And for two its a serious safety issue!! The slightest slip could send your car off the road or into another car! When bringing the car into my local dealership they blew me off and said its " a normal thing because of the electric power steering and how the car rides the grooves of the road." And they refuse to help me out further to fix the issue. PLEASE GUYS. I know I am not the only one to report this issue please ask Hyundai to create a recall on it.
Been told for 4 weeks now that they have to wait for parts them being suntrup Hyundai south in st louis MO
Dashboard experiencing vertical cracks in five areas and around airbag area. Cruise control would not turn off when break was depressed had to pull over applying brakes and pound on the steering wheel come to a stop. Checked out by manufacture claims it was no problem I have not used control since then.
Brake lights on the vehicle remain on and illuminated at all times. The brake lights are on while driving and pedal is not pressed as well as after vehicle is turned off and no one is in the vehicle. I checked the parking brake and it is not on either. I am concerned this will cause issues or accidents for people traveling behind me. Also do not know if this effects the battery in my vehicle. I checked and there was a recall for this very issue on a previous year Sonata and am wondering if it is now an issue for my year model as well.
Tail lights and brake lights constantly burn out. I've had to replace them multiple times a year. They bulbs get too hot that they melt into wiring harness which can be a fire hazard. I've had to replace the entire tail light because of this issues. I've heard and noticed this problem with a lot of Hyundai's. On the road I notice almost every other Hyundai similar to mine has at least one tail light or brake light out. My car was bought from Hyundai and had the original manufactures bulbs already installed, so this is not an aftermarket issue. I've read on multiple auto complaint blogs about this exact issue. I've been pulled over for the brake light being out which I wasn't even aware of until the officer told me. These bulbs have to be replaced at least 3 times a year. It's a safety hazard as well as a fire hazard. Every auto shop ive been to knows of this issues with Hyundai. I'm afraid to put anything flammable in my truck due to fear of it catching on fire. I spoke to Hyundai and they said that they are unaware of any issues or problems with my model and yet I continue to see mine and other vehicles with missing lights. Hopefully you guys can do something.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, a clunking noise was present coming from the engine before the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V226000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. Parts distribution disconnect. The failure mileage was 57,000.
My boyfriend was driving on highway and airbags deployed with no accident, worried about his safety he had to drive home with the airbags deployed on seats and driver side over the window air bag busted all the way into back seat over window. He is hurt. Called Hyundai 6/8 still no one assigned to my case. police was called report#21199526. They changed my engine maybe 6 months ago; my engine blew smelling smoke while driving and car just cut off, they replaced engine free of charge and my car has been falling apart since and yes my airbag light been on since they change motor and told me it will go away but it never went off. Per my research there was a recall for airbags back in 2012. I bought the car used from a dealership in 2015
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the hazard lights would independently activate without warning. The failure would return soon after the depression of the hazard light button. The failure would continue while stationery with the engine off; the contact would have to disconnect the battery to stop the failure. The contact's wife had taken the vehicle to the dealer where they disconnected that button, cleaned out the area, and checked for loose wiring. Despite the services performed on the vehicle, the failure persisted soon after repair. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000. Vehicle has been repaired.
We were driving north bound on 75 around mile marker 155 near Macon GA. The car stalled and would not turn over. I was able to move over to the shoulder lane. Upon opening the hood and inspecting the engine, I realized the engine was on fire. I started to extinguish the fire while we called the fire department who helped to finish extinguishing the fire. It is my understanding now that this model is known for having engine fire
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving 25 mph, there was a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The Engine Seized and went into limp mode. This happens on June 2 2021. It effected the turbocharger and the Engine tube fuel line. It is covered under the recall. It is currently at Spradly Hyundai in Pueblo Colorado. I have been waiting for 3 months to have it fixed and they had no loaner so I have had to pay for a rental before I got the rental I lost my job because I didn't have a way to get to work. I have spent almost 4,000 in rental which come to find out they only will pay upto 40.00 a day on a rental which there is no rental company that you can get a rental less then 92.00 a day. I have loss so much income and money because of this recall. I had just bought the car 5 weeks before this happened and I have not even been able to make my first car payment. So it will probably be repossed once I get it back. Thanks Hyundai I will never buy anouther car from this manufacturing company. I
My 2013 Hyundai Sonata Gt was a part of the Class action lawsuit in which the engine was replace. Within a year, I've had the vehicle checked and serviced at two different auto repairs shops for an extremely rough ride, loud rumbling-thumping and also a squeaking noise. The vehicle still drifts after having two separate wheel alignments. The steering wheel rattles and shakes with the slightest bump in the road. It feels like the underneath is falling apart and I'm going to lose control of the vehicle. With the sounds it makes and how it drives, it feels like I'm now driving a military tank instead of a car. I've spent over $2,000 for replacement-repairs of the: Tie Rods, U-Joints, Bushing, Brakes, two alignments and four new tires. I called the Ofallon IL Hyundai dealer who said there were no recalls or warranty left on these parts. After not getting any assistance from Auffenberg Hyundai, I researched online and found hundreds of complaints involving the suspension, Steering coupler, defective coil springs puncturing tires and causing motor vehicle accidents and serious injury. There were no warning messages prior to any of these symptoms. I feel that these mentioned parts contribute to maintaining control of the vehicle. I'm sure this could lead to a serious accident which could cause fatalities to eveyone involved! .........
Engine mis fire
1. Car was parked at a rest stop, on a hot day, and idling in "PARK" with air conditioner on. One passenger was in the car in the front passenger seat. No one was in the drivers seat. The driver of the car was about 20 feet away and making a phone call to make hotel reservations. After about 10 minutes, the car suddenly started moving in reverse, while the passenger was sitting in the passenger seat. The passenger was alarmed by this movement and tried to get out of the car on the passenger side and opened the car door. The passenger then fell to the ground and avoided the door opening, but the front wheel of the car ran over her lower right arm , breaking the large bone in the arm and causing multiple lacerations. The car proceeded in reverse, finally coming to a stop against a small hill about 100 feet away. The passenger was rushed to a hospital and received emergency care.

Started having engine failure a few months back with knocking and ticking noises. Loss of power while driving and upon trying to accelerate. Dealer said it was a bad transmission. Have had repairs done with the same problems and with oil leaking and burning badly so much as you can smell inside the vehicle while driving. It's a safety issue that could cause a fire.
I DO NOTICE SOMETIMES WHEN I PRESS ON THE GAS, THE CAR LOOSES ENERGY, DON'T ACCELERATE. IT'S LIKE THE CAR MPH GOES DOWN TO ZERO WHILE I'M DRIVING THE CAR WHICH IS SCARY. I STEP ON GAS, AND IT DON'T MOVE, THEN IT PICKS UP AND SPEED OFF.
My 2013 Hyundai Sonata has been declared totaled by my auto insurance company and "unsafe to drive" by Hyundai Corporation. There is a case number associated with my car at Hyundai. While driving down the street my engine begins smoking and everything shuts off. I was scared and uncertain of what was happening. I had to dodge cars to get off the road. I have supplied more than 15 pages of maintenance records, Which has proven I have taken care of my car. The engine has locked. The first representative stated Hyundai Corporate will pay for repairs - a new engine. The second representative stated only if I had a warranty will they assist me. I believe I'm getting the run around.

THE STARTER WAS REPLACED ON 4/25/21. THE VEHICLE STARTED AND WAS TAKEN FOR A TEST DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY AND RAN FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES BEFORE IT BEGAN PRODUCING A KNOCKING SOUND. THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AGAIN ON THE HIGHWAY, AND WHEN IT WAS STARTED AGAIN, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER AND ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE COASTED TO THE DRIVEWAY OF THE RESIDENCE, THEN NEEDED TO BE PUSHED BACK INTO THE RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AGAIN AND MADE A CLICKING SOUND. WIRES WERE ALSO SMOKING AGAIN. I have reported several times to hyundai that the dashboard has several cracks on the area of the airbag on the passenger side and driver side. I was instructed to take it to dealer which I did and I was informed that it is considered a cosmetic issue. I do not have a custom made dashboard and my concern is that those cracks will be continue to get bigger to the point it will cause the airbag to deploy at any time.

I WAS DRIVING AND MY 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS WITH ME IN THE CAR. WHEN CAR WAS CHANGING GEAR IT STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY, ALTHOUGH MY DAUGHTER WAS RESTRAINED SHE HIT HER HEAD AND HANDS ON THE INSIDE OF THE REAR DOOR. AFTERWARDS EVERY TIME CAR CHANGED THE GEAR IT WAS JERKING, SHAKING, BEHAVING IN UNEXPECTED MANNER THAT FURTHER DRIVING WAS VERY DANGEROUS. I WAS ABLE TO REACH MY HOME BUT I AM VERY SCARED TO DRIVE THAT CAR AGAIN. I READ THE CODE THAT CAME UP ON DASHBOARD P0711, TURNS OUT TRANSMISSION OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND HARNESS MALFUNCTIONED AND THAT LED TO VIOLENT AND ROUGH SHIFTING. CALLED DEALER, THEY WANT $700 FOR A REPAIR AND MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. CHECKED INTERNET AND IT'S FULL OF STORIES HOW THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH HYUNDAI CARS. IT TURNS HYUNDAI MODIFIED THE PART SINCE THEN AND NEVER RECALLED IT, THEY HAVE TSB 14-AT-010. HOW COME MANUFACTURER PUT FAULTY PART THAT COMPROMISES SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AND THEY WANT HUGE CHUNK OF MONEY TO FIX IT? WHY DIDN'T THEY RECALL IT? DEFINITELY GOING TO COURT WITH THIS.
