TAKATA RECALL, THE BRAKE LIGHT & HOUSING FOR THE BRAKE LIGHT BURNS & GETS HOT IMMEDIATELY AFTER PRESSING THE BRAKE, WHETHER THE CAR IS OFF OR ON. THE BRAKE LIGHT ALSO NEEDS TO BE CHANGED TOO OFTEN...SEEMS DANGEROUS, THERE'S A DEFECT. I TOOK MY OTHER CAR (SAME EXACT MODEL & YEAR) TO ONTARIO HYUNDAI ABOUT 4 OR 5 YEARS AGO & THEY CHANGED THE HOUSING, STATING THERE HAD BEEN ISSUES & NOW I'M EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE & IT'S NOT SHOWING ON THE RECALL LIST.
TAKATA RECALL THE VEHICLE IS ALWAYS STATIONARY WHEN I AM UNABLE TO PUT IT IN DRIVE FROM THE PARK POSITION. I AM UNABLE TO PUT MY DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW UP, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WENT OUT, MY TAIL/BRAKE/TURN SIGNAL ALL WENT OUT THE SAME DAY. ALL FUSES HAVE BEEN CHECKED, THEY ARE FINE. THE CAR WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT AND THE NEXT MORNING I WENT TO TURN THE WIPERS ON TO CLEAN THE WINDOW OF BIRD POOP AND THEY WOULDN'T WORK FOLLOWED BY THE CLOCK SAYING 1:01 AND IT WAS AROUND 8:30AM. THEN I NOTICED EVERYTHING ELSE, THE REAR LIGHTS WERE CALLED OUT TO ME BY ANOTHER DRIVER ON THE MAIN ROAD BY MY HOUSE
WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON I-95 THE 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA ALL OF A SUDDEN STARTED SLOWING DOWN WHILE I WAS IN THE HOV LANE HEADING SOUTH BOUND, WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE GAS PEDAL WAS NOT GIVING IN ( NOT WORKING ) SO I GRADUALLY SLOWED DOWN WITH WHAT EVER SPEED GENERATED BEFORE MY GAS PEDESTAL STOPPED WORKING AND PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED MY CAR ON AND OFF TOWARD MY DESTINATION SO WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR STARTED RUMBLING AND PERFORMING DIFFERENTLY THEN USUALLY SO WHEN I GOT TO MY DESTINATION TO LEAVE TO WORK THE CAR TURNED ON BUT THE GAS PEDAL WAS NOT WORKING FOR NOTHING SO I TRIED TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN AND IT JUST GAVE UP ON ME, I EVEN GOT A JUMP AND TRIED EVERYTHING BECAUSE I AM VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE OF CARS, BUT WHEN MY MECHANIC CHECKED IT OUT HE SAID THAT IT WAS CLEARLY A ENGINE PROBLEM THAT WAS VERY COMMON WITH THE CAR AND THAT HE JUST WORKED ON 7 OF THE SAME CARS WITH THE SAME ENGINE PROBLEM.
I HAVE A 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA AND I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE TAIL LIGHTS AT LEAST THREE TIMES BECAUSE THE BULBS WERE BURNING OUT THE SOCKETS. AT ONE POINT NONE OF MY TAIL LIGHTS WERE COMING ON AT ALL. PLEASE DO A RECALL ON THE TAIL LIGHTS
IN 2018 I STARTED PERIODICALLY TO SMELL AN ELECTRICAL BURNING ODOR WHILE DRIVING MY CAR. MY DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLAMP WENT OUT. I REPLACED IT ON SATURDAY WITH REPLACEMENT PART FROM AUTOZONE. SUNDAY THAT BULB WENT OUT. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP 4/24/18, THEY REPLACED IT-HASN'T GONE OUT AGAIN. SMELLED BURNING AGAIN. RECEIVED POLICE TICKET FOR DRIVER'S SIDE TAILLIGHT OUT. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP 6/26/18, EXPLAINED SMELL. VERIFIED WIRING ASSY/SOCKET WAS BURNT UP & BULB MELTED TO SOCKET. CALLED HYUNDAI CS BECAUSE THEY WANTED ME TO PAY FOR REPAIR, EXPLAINED PERIODIC BURNING SMELL. HYUNDAI REPLACED HARNESS & BULB, NO CHARGE TO ME. IN JUNE & JULY 2019, I HAD BEEN TOLD BY UNHAPPY MOTORISTS, YOU HAVE NO REAR LIGHTS &/OR BRAKE LIGHTS. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP 7/19/19 EXPLAINED BURNING SMELL. WAS TOLD PASSENGER BRAKE LIGHT BURNT OUT. IT WAS REPLACED, I WAS CHARGED $44.84. THEY SAID NOTHING ABOUT SMELL. NOT BEING HAPPY WITH THE SERVICE DEPT NOT ADDRESSING THE SMELL, I CALLED HYUNDAI CS AGAIN. A CASE WAS OPENED. TOOK CAR TO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTIC PER HYUNDAI CASE. THEY ONLY DID THE REAREND, TECH SAID THEY HAD KNOWN ISSUES ON THIS. BOTH SIDES WERE FOUND TO HAVE BURNT UP WIRING ASSEMBLIES AGAIN THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED. TECH REPORTED TO ME THAT THE LAST TECH AT THE OTHER SHOP WOULD HAVE SEEN THIS ISSUE AT THE TIME THEY REPLACED THE BULB, IF THEY REPLACED IT! HYUNDAI GAVE ME 2 OPTIONS; THEY PAY PARTS & LABOR-NO WARRANTY ON EITHER, OR THEY PAY PARTS & I PAY LABOR FOR 12 MONTH/12,000 MILE WARRANTY. I AM PAYING LABOR FOR WARRANTY. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS ONLINE REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE. I WILL LIVE IN FEAR OF MY CAR BURNING UP WITH/WITHOUT ME IN IT. OR GOD FORBID BEING IN AN ACCIDENT FOR REAR LIGHTING FAILURE WHICH COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH TO MYSELF AND/OR OTHERS. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE FIXED BY HYUNDAI AND A RECALL & EXTENDED WARRANTY TIME GRANTED DUE TO MANUFACTURING PROBLEMS!
THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS ORIGINAL SOCKETS AND WIRING, BURN SO HOT THAT IT MELTS THE SOCKETS. THIS CAUSE A SAFETY HAZARD, AS THE LIGHTBULBS ARE REPEATEDLY BEING BURNED OUT AND MELTED INTO THE SOCKETS. IN MOTIIN
Vehicle headlights turn off / on while driving
I WAS DRIVING 60 MILES AN HOUR ON 15 S 930 AM IN THE FAST LANE. OK HAD A 3/4THBA TANK OF GAS WHEN MY CAR SHOOK AND THEN THE SPEED DECLINED RAPIDLY. I PUT MY HAZARDS ON AND MOVED OVER BASICALLY GLIDED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR WAS DEAD. LIGHTS AND RADIO WORKED BUT NOTHING ELSE. I HAD IT TOWED TO HYUNDAI HENDERSEN. 4 RECALLS ON THE ENGINE AND IT COULD HAVE KILLED ME IF A CAR WAS BEHIND ME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED, DECELERATED, AND SHUT DOWN. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HENDERSON HYUNDAI SUPERSTORE (702-565-1500, LOCATED AT 460 N. BOULDER HWY, HENDERSON, NV 89015) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY THE SAME DEALER A YEAR AGO. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT DID NOT CALL THE CONTACT BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 138,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHEN THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, SHE WAS NOT INFORMED OF ANY RECALL REPAIRS BEING NEEDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES AND FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED WHEN THE FAILURES OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 17V152000 (SEAT BELTS) AND 17V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO INCLUDED IN SERVICE CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 946 (UNDERBODY CORROSION PREVENTATIVE SERVICE AND SERVICE CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 953 (ECM & CLUSTER UPDATE-ENGINE MONITORING LOGIC PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT). THE CONTACT DID NOT RECEIVE ANY NOTIFICATIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO WIESNER HYUNDAI (1645 INTERSTATE 45 N, CONROE, TX 77304, (936) 523-6300) TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS TO DETERMINE IF ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WOULD TOW THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING 75 ON THE INTERSTATE; TAKEN TO MECHANIC WHO REPORTS THAT ENGINE OIL IS FULL OF METAL SHAVINGS AND WILL NEED A NEW MOTOR. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 150,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED SO THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT A WARNING.
I AND MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD TO REPLACE REAR BRAKE BULBS, AND REAR RUNNING LIGHTS CONSECUTIVELY OVER THE PAST 7 MONTHS AND THEY BURN OUT TO QUICKLY AND ARE A SERIOUS FIRE HAZARD. THIS NEEDS TO BE CONSIDERED AS A RECALL BECAUSE OF THE HAZARD WITH OF THE HARNESS BURNING. FIX IT!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND DECELERATED. THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED TO THE SIDE. THE CONTACT SAW SMOKE FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE CONTACT'S COMPANION OPENED THE HOOD AND NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE AND CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE FIRE EXTINGUISHED ITSELF BEFORE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AT THE SCENE. THERE WAS NO INJURY SUSTAINED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT SURE WHETHER A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED BUT WAS NOT TOTALED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE PREMIER HYUNDAI OF TRACY DEALER (209-820-3550, LOCATED AT 3480 NAGLEE RD, TRACY, CA 95304) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS KEPT FOR INVESTIGATION. THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED A LOANER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT PRIOR TO THE FIRE, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALER TO INQUIRE ABOUT A RECALL WHICH THE CONTACT WAS NOTIFIED ABOUT (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN TOLD THE CONTACT TO COME BACK IF A KNOCKING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE AGAIN A FEW DAYS LATER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER AS WELL AS AN ESCALATED THE CLAIM. THE CONTACT WAS NOT CALLED BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,526.

I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE DURING TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR, MY CAR'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND I COULDN'T ACCELERATE ABOVE 2,000 RPM OR GO OVER 60 MPH. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE REPAIRED. AFTER 3 DAYS I PICKED THE CAR UP, AND THEY SAID THEY REPLACED THE KNOCK SENSOR AND THE CAR WAS FIXED. SINCE THEN THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES. CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP. I STARTED RESEARCHING ON MY OWN, AND I READ THAT THE KNOCK SENSOR WAS AN UPDATE HYUNDAI ADDED AFTER THE RECALL OF THE ENGINES IN THESE CARS. THIS KNOCK SENSOR IS ACTUALLY PROTECTING MY CAR (AND ME) BY PUTTING IT IN 'LIMP MODE' BECAUSE IT SENSES SOMETHING DANGEROUS IN THE ENGINE. I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO INFORM THEM I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE THIS HAS HAPPENED SO MANY TIMES AND CLEARLY IS'T FIXED, AND I'M SURE IT HAS TO DO WITH THE RECALLS THEY HAVE AND ENGINE FIRES. THEY'VE DONE NOTHING. LAST TIME I WENT TO GET THE CAR THE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT MANY PEOPLE WERE HAVING ISSUES, BUT HYUNDAI DOESN'T ALLOW THEM TO ACTUALLY FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE TO DO WORK-AROUND FIXES INSTEAD OF THE ACTUAL REPAIRS NEEDED. THE MANGER SAID HE PREDICTS THAT "THERE WILL BE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT BECAUSE OF HYUNDAI NOT DOING ANYTHING TO ACTUALLY FIX THIS ENGINE ISSUE". I DON'T KNOW WHO TO TURN TO, BUT I' AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. I DON'T WANT TO BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE CATCH FIRE. I'M CURRENTLY PREGNANT AND IT HAS BEEN VERY STRESSFUL DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE. I FEAR THE DEALERSHIP WILL DISABLE THE KNOCK SENSOR SO THAT IT STOPS PUTTING THE ENGINE ON LIMP MODE AND THEN I WILL HAVE A FIRE. I ALSO FEAR THAT THE KNOCK SENSOR MAY NOT WORK CORRECTLY NEXT TIME AND THE ENGINE MAY CATCH FIRE. I NEED THE ENGINE FIXED. I HOPE BY SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAINT IT WILL HELP GET THIS ENGINE PROBLEM SOLVED FOR ME AND CONSUMERS.

PHIL LONG HYUNDAI OF CHAPEL HILLS DEALER, LOCATED AT (1540 AUTO MALL LOOP COLORADO SPRINGS, CO 80920) WAS CONTACTED BY PHONE AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO A SECOND FREE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO REACH OUT TO THE MANUFACTURER BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
ENGINE SEIZED IN HEAVY FLOW TRAFFIC WHEN LEAVING WORK.
BRAKE LIGHT FAILURE-REPLACED BULBS 4 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 YEARS USING THE MANUFACTURERS SUGGESTED BULB STOCK NUMBER. THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD .HYUNDAI RECALLED 2011-2013 FOR BRAKE LIGHT FAILURES- WHAT ABOUT 2014??
THIS IS AN ON-GOING ISSUE. ORIGINALLY BEGAN MID MARCH OF 2019. THUS FAR ALL HAVE BEEN COVERED BY WARRANTY. LUCKILY, I'D JUST GOTTEN OFF OF I-95 WHEN THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS BEGAN. THE ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED, CAR ONLY ACCELERATED TO APPX 30 MPH, HESITATED AND SPUTTERED, AS IF IT WANTED TO STALL. ON THE OCCASION IN MARCH MY CAR, WITH APPX 82,000 MILES, WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. ON, OR ABOUT, APRIL 5TH I WAS TOLD ONE OF TWO ISSUES ARE INVOLVED. ONE WAS THE WIRING HARNESS (KNOCK SENSOR) OR ENGINE REPLACEMENT IS REQUIRED. HYUNDAI AUTHORIZED THE KNOCK SENSOR REPLACEMENT AND I RECEIVED THE CAR ON APRIL 14TH. I F I RECALL CORRECTLY, THE KNOCK SENSOR WAS A RECALL ISSUE. ALL WAS SEEMINGLY FINE UNTIL JUNE 10TH. AT THAT TIME, THE SAME ISSUES I DESCRIBED ABOVE HAPPENED, INCLUDING THAT THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATED I WAS TRAVELING AT 60 MPH WHEN I WAS PROBABLY TRAVELLING AT 30-35 MPH. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO HYUNDAI, AGAIN, AND I AM NOW AWAITING THEIR DIAGNOSIS. I DON'T FEEL ANYTHING LESS THAN ENGINE REPLACEMENT WILL BE ACCEPTABLE AT THIS TIME.
I HAVE REPLACED MY LIGHT BULBS IN THE BACK 2 TAIL LIGHTS WITHIN A MONTH OF EACH OTHER. AND THE LIGHT BULBS KEEP GOING OUT. IT IS SOMETHING ELECTRICAL GOING ON. I HAVE ALSO A MELTED HOUSING LIGHT. EVERY TIME I PUT A LIGHT BULB IN. IT GOES BACK OUT. THE ONLY STOPPING LIGHT THAT WORKS IS THE ONE IT THE BACK WINDOW. SO ONLY MY LEFT LIGHT WORKS WHEN I TURN ON THE LIGHTS. BUT NO BRAKE LIGHTS. JUST THE ONE IN THE WINDOW. MY CAR WAS STATIONARY AND YOU COULD PLAINLY SEE THE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. AND ALSO I HAD SOMEONE TO STEP ON THE BRAKES TO SEE IF THEY WOULD COME ON. AND THEY ARE NOT. I DID GET THEM TO WORK AT ONE MOMENT. BUT THE JUST WENT OUT WHEN U STEPPED ON THE BRAKES. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS NOW. JUST THOUGHT THE CAR NEED SOME WORK DONE. BUT IT'S ONLY 6 YEARS OLD. AND I SHOULD NOT BE HAVING ELECTRICAL ISSUES SO SOON.
PURCHASED A HYUNDAI SONATA 2014 NOV 2016. ARE VERY SERIOUS ISSUES WITH INTERIOR AND ESPECIALLY WITH EXTERIOR LIGHTING, BRAKES LIGHTS, REAR LIGHTS. BREAK LIGHTING ASSEMBLY AND WIRING HARNESS MELTS AND BURNS TO A BLACK CRISP, BULBS BURST DUE TO SEVERE OVERHEATING DURING "NORMAL OPERATION" OF THE VEHICLE. SAFETY AND FIRE HAZARD WITH REAR TAIL LIGHT LAP ASSEMBLY, BULB BURNS EXTREMELY HOT RIGHT THROUGH PLASTIC HOUSING UNIT. UNABLE TO REPLACE BULBS BECAUSE LIGHTING ASSEMBLY MELTS TO THE SOCKET'S CORE AND THE SOCKET MELTS OVER THE BULB METAL BASE. EXPECT EXTREME DAMAGE PROHIBITING REPLACEMENT OF ANY BULBS. AFTER BEING PULLED OVER REPEATEDLY, INFORMED EXTERIOR LIGHTS WERE EVEN AFTER JUST CHANGING THEM.. LIGHT BULBS BURN HOT RAPIDLY, MELT TO THE SOCKET MAKE IT UNABLE TO GET ANY REPLACEMENT LIGHT BULBS TO WORK BECAUSE ENTIRE UNIT IS THEN DAMAGED, BURNT AND MELTED. BULB WILL NOT FIT BECAUSE PLASTIC UNIT HAS MELTED FROM CIRCULAR TO INWARD. LIGHTS FAIL WITHOUT THE OWNER EVER KNOWING UNTIL ITS TOO LATE. I'VE BEEN PARKED AT MALL POLICE OFFICER INFORMED ME LIGHT WAS OUT, DRIVING ON HIGHWAY PULLED OVER 7 TIMES GIVEN WARNING, REPAIR ORDERS DUE TO LIGHTS OUT, PULLED OVER ON SIDE STREET, ROAD AND LIGHTS JUST GO OUT ON HIGHWAY. BY THE TIME BULB GOES OUT ITS BURNED THE ENTIRE UNIT THROUGH WIRING, ANYTHING TOUCHING OR AROUND IT. CHANGE LIGHTS EVERY 2, 3 WEEKS. WHEN CHANGING THEM I NOTICE DAMAGE WORSENING, METAL AND BULB ARE BURNT TO A CRISP. WHEN I REPLACE ON SIDE, A WEEK OR TWO LATER I HAVE TO CHANGE THE OTHER SIDE. CREATING A TRICKLE AFFECT. ONCE ONE GOES OUT. ANOTHER GOES OUT AND SO FOURTH. YOU LITERALLY HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HOUSING UNIT WHICH IS VERY EXPENSIVE. SAME REPEATS.. TRIED TO REPLACE BULB WITH A HALOGEN BULB INSTEAD AND THE BASE AND BULB ALSO BURNED.. UNDER ASSUMPTION THAT DOESN'T BURN HOT. DID NOT WORK. DURING SEVERE RAIN PRE-EXISTING ISSUES ONLY WORSEN AND MAGNIFY..
THE GDI HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAS A BIG PROBLEM. THE CAR WILL READ EMPTY WITH A FULL TANK IN THE CAR. THE SPRING LOADED FUEL PRESSURE PUMP WILL SEIZE OR EITHER TEMPORARILY STOP WORKING. MY CAR HAS 62,500 MILES AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN SERVICED. I HAVE TALKED ABOUT THIS PART WITH MANY DEALERSHIPS AND IT'S THE NUMBER ONE PART ON THE CAR THAT SELLS BECAUSE HOW FAULTY THE PART IS AND GOES OUT QUICKLY. I CAN BE ON THE FREEWAY WITH HALF TANK READING AND THE CAR WILL SHUT OFF ON ME WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS CONSIDERING EVERYONE IS TRAVELING AT A FAST SPEED AND MY CAR LOSES ALL POWER WITH NOTHING I CAN DO. I HAVE HAD A COUPLE CLOSE CALLS ON THE FREEWAY WITH NEAR FATAL ACCIDENTS. USED AUTO PARTS EVEN SAY IT'S THE NUMBER ONE ISSUE ON THE CAR. AND IT'S HAPPENING TO ALL HYUNDAI'S. IT'S POOR MADE AND NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED IMMEDIATELY.
SINCE OWNING THIS CAR I HAVE REPLACED THE HEAD LAMPS ABOUT EVER 2-6 MONTHS. THE NEXT ISSUE THAT IS WORSE THAN THE HEAD LAMPS IS THE TAIL LAMPS. WHEN THE TAIL LAMPS BURN OUT THEY MELT INTO THE HOUSING SO YOU CAN NOT JUST CHANGE THE BULB YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS. THIS FIRST HAPPENED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND NOW ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE NO WIRING HARNESSES IN THE STATE CLOSEST ONE IS IN OHIO.
HAD MY HYUNDAI FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW. THERE ARE VERY SERIOUS ISSUE WITH EXTERIOR LIGHTING, BRAKES LIGHTS, REAR LIGHTS. BREAK LIGHTING ASSEMBLY AND WIRING HARNESS MELTS AND BURNS TO A BLACK CRISP, BULBS BURST DUE TO SEVERE OVERHEATING DURING "NORMAL OPERATION" OF THE VEHICLE. SAFETY AND FIRE HAZARD WITH REAR TAIL LIGHT LAP ASSEMBLY, BULB BURNS EXTREMELY HOT RIGHT THROUGH PLASTIC HOUSING UNIT. UNABLE TO REPLACE BULBS BECAUSE LIGHTING ASSEMBLY MELTS TO THE SOCKET'S CORE AND THE SOCKET MELTS OVER THE BULB METAL BASE. EXPECT EXTREME DAMAGE PROHIBITING REPLACEMENT OF ANY BULBS. AFTER BEING PULLED OVER REPEATEDLY, INFORMED EXTERIOR LIGHTS WERE EVEN AFTER JUST CHANGING THEM.. LIGHT BULBS BURN HOT RAPIDLY, MELT TO THE SOCKET MAKE IT UNABLE TO GET ANY REPLACEMENT LIGHT BULBS TO WORK BECAUSE ENTIRE UNIT IS THEN DAMAGED, BURNT AND MELTED. BULB WILL NOT FIT BECAUSE PLASTIC UNIT HAS MELTED FROM CIRCULAR TO INWARD. LIGHTS FAIL WITHOUT THE OWNER EVER KNOWING UNTIL ITS TOO LATE. I'VE BEEN PARKED AT MALL POLICE OFFICER INFORMED ME LIGHT WAS OUT, DRIVING ON HIGHWAY PULLED OVER 7 TIMES GIVEN WARNING, REPAIR ORDERS DUE TO LIGHTS OUT, PULLED OVER ON SIDE STREET, ROAD AND LIGHTS JUST GO OUT ON HIGHWAY. BY THE TIME BULB GOES OUT ITS BURNED THE ENTIRE UNIT THROUGH WIRING, ANYTHING TOUCHING OR AROUND IT. CHANGE LIGHTS EVERY 2, 3 WEEKS. WHEN CHANGING THEM I NOTICE DAMAGE WORSENING, METAL AND BULB ARE BURNT TO A CRISP. WHEN I REPLACE ON SIDE, A WEEK OR TWO LATER I HAVE TO CHANGE THE OTHER SIDE. CREATING A TRICKLE AFFECT. ONCE ONE GOES OUT. ANOTHER GOES OUT AND SO FOURTH. YOU LITERALLY HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HOUSING UNIT WHICH IS VERY EXPENSIVE. SAME REPEATS.. DID NOT WORK. MY FRONT EXTERIOR LIGHT ARE NOW OUT AS OF A WEEK AGO. MEANING I ONLY HAVE 1 WORKING LIGHT. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE 300 PER SIDE TO GET IT FIXED BECAUSE I NEED NEW ELECTRICAL WIRING ! SERIOUSLY !
MY BRAKE LIGHTS DON'T WORK I CHECKED THE BULBS AND FUSES AND THERE OK
ENGINE RECALL IT WAS FRIDAY NIGHT RUSH HOUR RAINING HEAVY TRAFFIC. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH ON A BUSY STREET.THE CAR ENGINE STOPPED,NO WARNING IT WOULD NOT GO. I COASTED TO A STOP ALL SYSTEM LIGHTS WERE ON THE . DASH BOARD. TRIED TO RESTART CAR NO USE ,CAR JUST MADE NOISE BUT WOULD NOT START. NO WARNING.FROM THE CAR.NOW THE CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF EVEN WITH KEY OUT OF CAR IT WILL TRY TO START AND KEEPS TRYING TO START.I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO GET CAR LOCKED. BRAKES FAILED CAR ROLLING AND USED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO KEEP CAR FROM ROLLING. TOWED TO LOCAL FIRESTONE AND THE READING WAS NOT DONE BC THE OBD WAS FOUND JUST HANGING THERE. CAR HAS ONLY 51,000 MILES. VERY DANGEROUS I COULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED. I COULD HAVE HAD MY CHILDREN WITH ME.IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE EXPRESS WAY I WOULD HAVE LIKELY CAUSED A VERY HUGH ACCIDENT.

DEALERSHIP COMMUNICATED TO ME ALL RECALL INSPECTIONS WERE MADE, AND NO FURTHER REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENTS TO THE CAR WAS NEEDED AT APPROXIMATELY 11:30AM ON 04/24/2019. CAR WAS THEN PICKED UP THROUGH THE SALES DEPARTMENT AT MY EARLIEST CONVENIENCE ON 04/25/2019 AT APPROXIMATELY 7:00PM. AFTER DRIVING 9 MILES ON A 55MPH STREET, MY CAR LOST IMMEDIATE ACCELERATION/POWER CAUSING THE SPEED TO REDUCE WITHOUT WARNING, AND WITHOUT BRAKE LIGHTS ACTIVATED (WITNESS TO THIS IS THE INDIVIDUAL WHO DROVE ME TO THE DEALERSHIP TO PICK UP THE CAR, AND WAS CURRENTLY DRIVING BEHIND ME AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT). AFTER IMMEDIATE LOSS OF ACCELERATION/POWER (THE CAR WAS MOVING AT 55MPH), THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN BLINKING. THE CAR WAS IMMEDIATELY MOVED OFF THE ROAD, AND A BURNING SMELL WAS DETECTED AFTER REMOVING MYSELF FROM THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP APPROVED A RENTAL FOR THE FOLLOWING DAY, YET UNAVAILABLE/UNABLE TO BE APPROVED UNTIL THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT RE-OPENED. CURRENTLY, THE DEALERSHIP HAS ME IN A RENTAL CAR THROUGH ENTERPRISE, COVERING THE COST EXCEPT FOR $1.00 A DAY (WHICH IS TO BE PAID BY ME). MORE SO, AS THIS IS NOT MY CAR, AN ADDITIONAL COVERAGE CHARGE OF $9.00 PER DAY WAS REQUIRED TO INSURE ME COVERAGE IN THE EVENT THE RENTAL IS INVOLVED IN AN UNEXPECTED ACCIDENT. THIS HAPPENED ON LAST FRIDAY 4/19/2019. I GOT MY CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP (FRED BEANS HYUNDAI OF DOYLESTOWN, PA) ON 4/20/2019. I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE KNOCK SENSOR HARNESS AND IT HAS BEEN REPLACED UNDER CAMPAIGN T3G. I PICKED UP MY CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP YESTERDAY 4/23/2019 BUT MY CAR IS STILL HAVING KNOCKING SOUND, CAR IS HESITATING AND I GOT THE ENGINE LIGHT(MIL) BACK UP AGAIN TODAY 4/24/2019.
ON 4/24/19 AT APPROXIMATELY 5:00PM, I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY CITY DRIVING WHEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON FOLLOWED BY ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD BLINKING. I DROVE INTO A PARKING LOT AND MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN ON ME. IT WOULD NOT TURN ON OR START AT ALL. I HAD TO USE MY CAR INSURANCE TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO MY FRIENDS HOUSE BECAUSE THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WAS NOT WITHIN THE TOWING RANGE TO BE COVERED BY MY INSURANCE. I CALLED THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE NEXT DAY, 4/25/19. THE DEALERSHIP CAME AND TOWED MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER THE INSPECTION, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT I SUFFERED AN ENGINE FAILURE AND THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WAS PROVIDED WITH A RENTAL CAR, WHICH I CAN USE UNTIL MY CAR IS FIXED, BUT HYUNDAI WILL NEED TO SEND THEM A NEW ENGINE SO THEY DONT KNOW YET WHEN THE CAR WILL BE FIXED. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE HOSES, GASKETS; ANYTHING THAT WASN'T EITHER A BLACK SURFACE OR METAL BECAUSE THE WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THOSE. THE ESTIMATE FOR ME TO PAY WOULD BE AROUND $300. ALSO, DURING THE INSPECTION FOR THE ENGINE, I WAS TOLD THE AXELS WERE LEAKING AND THOSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED INCLUDING ALL OF THE COMPONENTS OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM. I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE $50 DEDUCTIBLE AND THE WARRANTY WOULD COVER THE REST. WHEN THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE IT WAS STILL MOVING WAS VERY UNSAFE, ESPECIALLY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC.
I HAVE RECENTLY NOTICED WHILE TRYING TO TURN MY WHEEL OUT OF A PARKED POSITION, THAT IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MOVE. I PLACE MY KEY IN THE IGNITION AND TRY TO TURN IT ON IT DOES NOT WANT TO TURN UNTIL I GET THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED. WHEN IT FINALLY DOES AND IT RELEASES THE KEY TO TURN, I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT WHEN I AM TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT IT MAKES A "CLUNKING SOUND". I AM ALSO BEGINNING TO NOTICE A LIGHT CLUNKING WHILE DRIVING AT A LOWER SEED WHEN I AM TURNING EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT. IT MAKES ME NERVOUS THAT THE STEERING MIGHT GO OUT WHILE I AM DRIVING AND I WON'T HAVE CONTROL OF THE CAR. THE CAR IS 5 YEARS OLD AND JUST UNDER 100K. MY CAR IS AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP SINCE THAN FOR THE REPAIR AND THEY ARE WAITING FOR THE PARTS FROM THE HYUNDAI FACTORY. I ALSO CONTACTED HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS CENTER FOR THIS AND CASE#: 15700612 HAS BEEN CREATED FOR THIS COMPLAIN.
ON 4/13/19 I DROVE TO PA. WHEN I WAS ON MY WAY BACK RIGHT BEFORE THE COMMODORE BARRY BRIDGE I GOT INTO THE RIGHT LANE EXIT 4 ON TO 322 EAST TOWARDS NJ WHEN MY CAR DROPPED GEAR AND THEN MY CAR ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE IN MOTION GOING ABOUT 40MPH WITHOUT WARNING. WHEN I LOOKED AT THE DASHBOARD ALL OF MY LIGHTS WERE ON, THE CHECK ENGINE, OIL, TRANSMISSION,ETC. LUCKILY I WAS NOT ON THE BRIDGE YET AND PULLED INTO THE SHOULDER LANE. I TRIED TO START MY CAR AGAIN AND IT SHUDDERED THEN CAME ON AND REMAINED ON FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS BEFORE IT DIED YET AGAIN. I HAD TO GET MY CAR TOWED TO MT. LAUREL NJ WHERE A MECHANIC TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR THAT THEY COULD FIND AND THAT ALL THEY COULD FIND WAS THAT I WAS A LITTLE LOW ON OIL. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPEN WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED WAS ABOUT A YEAR AGO, I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY DIED AND JUMPED OUT OF GEAR EVEN WHEN IT WAS IN PARK THE CAR WOULD NOT STAY STILL. I HAD TO PUSH THE CAR TO THE CURB WHERE I APPLIED THE HANDBRAKE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO BURNS HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP NEAR MT. LAUREL WHERE THEY TOLD ME THAT MY FRONT AXLE HAD PULLED MY CAR OUT OF GEAR, WHICH DID NOT EXPLAIN WHY THE ENGINE DIED. I HAD TO REPLACE THE AXLE AGAIN. WHEN I TOLD BURNS HYUNDAI THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE THAT INCLUDED THE ENGINE AND THE TRANSMISSION WHICH APPLIED TO MY SITUATION THEY TOLD ME MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT ON THE LIST OF CARS WITH THAT SPECIFIC RECALL WHEN I CLEARLY TOLD THEM THAT IT WAS HAPPENING TO MY CAR. THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND THAT THE CAR "SEEMED FINE" AS FAR AS THEY COULD TELL. CLEARLY THE CAR IS NOT FINE REGARDLESS WHAT THESE MECHANICS ARE SAYING OTHERWISE I WOULD NOT BE BREAKING DOWN WHILE DRIVING. BEING AT 87,348 MILES THIS CAR SHOULD NOT BE EXPERIENCING A BREAKDOWN WITHOUT WARNING TWICE WITHIN TWO YEARS

THIS CAUSES BREAK LIGHTS TO FAIL WITHOUT THE OWNER KNOWING. WHICH COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENT DUE TO NO BREAK LIGHTS ALSO THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM CAN BE EFFECTED BY THIS SHORT BY SHORTING OUT THE BREAK LIGHT RELAY.
I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO, I'M QUITE SURPRISED TO SEE A AIR BAG LIGHT ON A CAR THAT HAD LESS THEN 100,000 MILES FROM THE DEALERSHIP THAT WAS CERTIFIED PREOWNED.
THE SOFTWARE UPDATE PER HYUNDAIS "953" SERVICE CAMPAIGN, WHEN ACTIVATED, REDUCES ENGINE PERFORMANCE WHICH COULD LEAD TO ACCIDENTS (DUE TO INSUFFICIENT ACCELERATION, ETC.). I HAD THE RECENT ENGINE SOFTWARE UPDATE PER HYUNDAI'S 953 CAMPAIGN. ON 3/22/19, I EXITED A HIGHWAY AND SLOWED DOWN PRIOR TO MERGING ONTO THE NEXT ROAD. I NEEDED TO ACCELERATE, HOWEVER MY ENGINE BOGGED AND HESITATED SIGNIFICANTLY. AS SUCH, ANOTHER CAR QUICKLY APPROACHING HAD TO BREAK HEAVILY TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH MY CAR. I LOOKED DOWN AND OBSERVED MY ENGINE LIGHT FLASHING. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO ACTION HYUNDAI (MILLVILLE, NJ), AND THEY STATED THAT THE NEWLY INSTALLED SOFTWARE HAD DETECTED ISSUES WITH MY ENGINE AND AUTOMATICALLY PLACED MY ENGINE IN THIS LOW-POWER MODE. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT I WILL BE RECEIVING A WARRANTY ENGINE REPLACEMENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, AN ELECTRICAL BURNING ODOR WAS PRESENT AND SMOKE WAS SEEN FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STARTER WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER (RODGERS HYUNDAI, 2700 MICHIGAN AVE, CHICAGO, IL) WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.

THE BACK DOOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WILL NOT CLOSE. THERE IS A PROBLEM WHERE THE CLOSE/LOCK LATCH WILL NOT LATCH. THE DOOR FLIES OPEN AND HAS TO BE BUNGIE CORDED INSIDE THE CAR TO REMAIN CLOSED. THE DOOR WILL NOT LATCH TO CLOSE.

AROUND 115,000 MILES MY 2014 SONATA DEVELOPED A LOUD CLICKING FROM STEERING COLUMN WHEN TURNING OR GOING OVER SHARP BUMP. STEERING HAS DEVELOPED SOME "PLAY" (NO STEERING RESPONSE) IN WHEEL-NEUTRAL POSITION. PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE OVER TIME.
WEDNESDAY EVENING, FEBRUARY 27, 2019 AT APPROXIMATELY 7:40 PM, MY ENGINE LOST POWER AND QUIT RUNNING. I WAS DRIVING 50 MPH EASTBOUND ON WA HIGHWAY SR500 TURNING IN A CURVE WHEN THE WHEN THE CAR LOST POWER EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DEPRESSED AND THE ENGINE DID NOT RESPOND. THANKFULLY IT WAS AT A TIME OF THE EVENING WHEN THERE WAS NOT A LOT OF TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY, BUT IT WAS DARK, SO WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT, AND THE POWER STEERING QUIT, I WAS BARELY ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR SAFETLEY OFF THE FREEWAY. WHEN I HAD DETERMINED I WAS IN A SAFE POSITION, I TRIED STARTING THE CAR AGAIN UNSUCCESSFULLY. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER, SO I ASSUMED THE MOTOR WAS SEIZED UP.
ESC LIGHT AND HARD BRAKING ISSUE(ABS MODULE?): ESC LIGHT TURNS ON AND THE CAR APPLIES HARD BRAKES WITHOUT ANY ACTION FROM THE DRIVER WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING ON A STRAIGHT ROAD OR FREEWAY (NOT WHILE TURNING). SOMETIMES, THE ESC LIGHT DOESN'T TURN ON BUT THE BRAKES STILL GET APPLIED WHILE IN MOTION WITHOUT ANY ACTION FROM DRIVER. IT HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES SO FAR - 2 OF THOSE WHILE DRIVING AT MORE THAN 60MPH ON FREEWAY BUT WAS FORTUNATE TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY. ONE INSTANCE OF THE PROBLEM SHOWED UP WHEN THE CAR WAS STATIONARY BUT WITH ENGINE RUNNING (AT A PARKING LOT). AS YOU COULD SEE, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE PUTTING US IN DANGER WITHOUT ANY PRIOR INDICATION OR NO KNOWN RESOLUTION. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER SERVICE CENTER BUT THEY CANNOT FIND THE ROOT CAUSE YET. THEY HAVE ALREADY TRIED REPLACING BRAKE SWITCH BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP. I HAVE FILED A CASE WITH HYUNDAI DIRECTLY TOO AND WAITING TO HEAR FROM THEM.

STOCKTON HYUNDAI (2979 AUTO CENTER CIRCLE, STOCKTON, CA 95212, (855) 830-3429) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE ENGINE SEIZED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT ON A CITY STREET. WHEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE MY ENGINE TURNED OFF & WOULDN'T TURN BACK ON. MY CAR WAS NOT RECALLED, BUT IT WAS UNDER A SAFETY CAMPAIGN. I DIDN'T RECEIVE NOTICE OF THE CAMPAIGN UNTIL AFTER MY ENGINE STOPPED. HYUNDAI ENDED UP REPLACING MY ENGINE. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO MOVE MY VEHICLE FROM THE ROAD WITH THE HELP OF SOME NEARBY DRIVERS AND NO ONE WAS INJURED.
