I PURCHASED THIS AUTO IN SEPT 2917 USED, A FEW WEEKS LATER MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET WHEN THE ELECTRIC STEERING ASSIST FAILED AND A RED STEERING WHEEL INDICATOR APPEARED ON THE DASH SHE MANAGED TO DRIVE IT HOME, WHEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT EVERYTHING WAS OK. ON 11/12 2017 THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME AS I WAS TURNING ONTO A SIDE STREET FROM A CITY STREET I WAS SO SURPRISED I DIDNT TURN FAST ENOUGH AND ALMOST HIT 3 TEENAGERS ON A SIDEWALK. I IMMEDIATELY SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RE STARTED IT AND EVERY THING AGAIN WAS OK.I AM AFRAID THERE IS A MALFUNCTION IN THE CONTROL I AM SURE IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND THE RESULT MAY NOT BE AS EASILY SOLVED.
WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE MY CAR IS MAKING A CLICKING NOISE. WENT TO THE DEALER AND HE SAID IT IS NORMAL. PREVIOUSLY IT WAS LITTLE BUT NOW DAYS IT IS MAKING LOUD NOISE WHILE DRIVING. WHEN WE DEPRESS THE BRAKE AND TRY TO CHANGE THE GEAR FROM P TO D THE GEAR ROD IS MAKING SAME CLICKING NOISE. WHEN READ FORUMS I HEARD THAT IT IS THE PROBLEM WITH THE SOLENOID BUT THE DEALER DOES NOT WANT TO DO BECAUSE HE HAS TO DO IT FOR FREE. WHEN ASKED THE DEALER HE SAID THAT IT DOES NOT COME UNDER WARRANTY. NOW THE NOISE IS REALLY LOUD AND NO ONE IS HELPING ME OUT.
ON OCTOBER 26TH MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING MYSELF AND OUR 2 CHILDREN WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN WE WENT FROM GOING 45 MILES AN HOUR TO STOPPING AND THEN EVEN AFTER THE GAS PEDAL WAS PUSHED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WE WE WERE GOING APPROX 5 MILES AM HOUR. OUR ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND AFTET APPROX 5 TO 10 MIN WE FOUND A PLACE TO PULL OVER AS THERE WERE NO PULLOFFS READILY AVAILABLE. AFTET WE PULLED OFF THE ROAD WE SHUT THE CAR OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME . THE ENGINE LIGJT WAS STILL ON BUT POWER AND SPEED WERE RESTORED. WE CALLED OUR HYUNDAI DEALER ON FRI MORNING AND THEY SAID TO BRING IT DOWN ON MONDAY. THE CAR SAT ALL WEEKEND AND WAS NOT DRIVEN DUE RO FEAR OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN. I DID HOWEVER START THE CAR ON FRIDAY AND ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. WE BROUGHT THE CAR DOWN MON AT 9AM. THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOW OFF BUT THE HYUNDAI MECHANIC SAID EVEN IF THE LIGHT WAS OFF A CODE WOULD STILL BE IN THE SYSTEM. WE RECEIVED A CALL AROUND 3PM SAYING THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG BUT EVEN THEY DID NOT UNDER WHY NO CODE AT ALL SHOWED UP. THEY ARE KEEPING THE CAR UNTIL FRIDAY TO KEEP STARYING AND DRIVING IT TO SEE IF SOMETHING HAPPENS. MU HUSBAND DID REPORT THE ISSUE TO HYUNDAI AND THEY SAID THEY WILL INVESTIGATE. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN AGAIN WITH SOMEONE DRIVING BEHIND US IT COULD BE A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. VERY NERVOUS AND SCARED SOMETHING CAN HAPPEN ESPECIALLY DRIVING MY YOUND CHILDREN AROUND.

UPON ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE RAPIDLY, WHILE DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE DECREASED IN SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SHORTLINE HYUNDAI IN AURORA, COLORADO WHERE THE VCM WAS UPDATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,965. UPDATED 8/13/18*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER (LEGACY HYUNDAI IN MCDONOUGH, GA, 770-914-2800), BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT DUPLICATED. LATER, A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED AND THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED AND UPDATED THE ECN AND VCN SOFTWARE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 22,700.
THIS CAR CUT OFF AT A STOP LIGHT WITH NO WARNING AT ALL ,THERE IS ALWAYS HESITATION AND DOES NOT WANT TO PICK UP SPEED. MAY CAR HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP MANY TIMES AND THEY CAN'T TELL ME WHATS WRONG AND HAS HAD AN FUEL INJECTION REPLACE , GAS TREATMENT CLEANING , AND A SENOR REPLACE . I FEAR FOR MY LIFE AND FAMILY EVERY TIME I HAVE TO DRIVE MY DEFECTED CAR THE DEALERSHIP DOESN'T CARE ABOUT MY SAFETY. I HAVE DROVE THE CAR WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND TECHNICIAN AND THEY FELT WHAT I WAS FEELING AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUE .THE HESITATION OCCUR ON THE CITY STREET AND HIGHWAY.
HARD SHIFTS WHEN IN SPORT MODE AND WHEN IT DOESN'T DO A HARD SHIFT THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF ON THE HIGHWAY CAUSING THE HEADLIGHTS AND POWER STEERING TO NOT FICTION CAUSE A POSSIBLE CRASH HAVE TO STOP AND PUT IN PARK TO RESTART ENGINE
WITHOUT CLEAR CAUSE THIS RENTAL CAR'S POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW TO MODERATE SPEEDS- THE FIRST TIME WE WERE IN A PARKING LOT SO ABLE TO PULL INTO A SAFE PLACE AFTER A TOW COMPANY CHECKED IT OUT AND IT SEEMED TO HAVE SPONTANEOUSLY RESOLVED WE TRIED TO DRIVE IT A SHORT DISTANCE AT SLOW SPEEDS AND THE DASHBOARD STARTED TO FLASH ON AND OFF AND THE POWER STEERING CUT AGAIN.
AS I AM RIDING ALONG AT A STEADY RATE, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR WILL SLOW DOWN. SOMETIMES IT SLOWS 5-10 MPH AND STARTS TO ACCELERATE. AT OTHER TIMES, IT WILL SLOW TO A COMPLETE STOP. BEFORE GOING ON VACATION, I TOOK IT TO PANTILI HYUNDAI IN PRINCETON, WV AND THEY DID A COMPUTER UPDATE AND TOLD ME IT WAS FINE. I DROVE TO MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE AND IT STARTED DOING IT AGAIN. ON MY WAY HOME, WE STOPPED IN CHATTANOOGA FOR LUNCH. WHEN CROSSING A BUSY INTERSECTION, IT NEARLY STOPPED. A GAS TRUCK WAS APPROACHING AS WE BARELY MADE IT ACROSS TO OUR SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS SHOULDER ROOM TO MOVE TO UNTIL IT DECIDED TO GO AGAIN.
SUNROOF RECALL. I GAVE HAD A TOTAL OF THREE ISSUES WITH THE SUNROOF OF MY VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING THIS LAST TIME ON THE HIGHWAY THE WIND NET POPPED UP AND MY ENTIRE SUNROOF FLEW OFF OF MY CAR. THE FIRST TIME THE WIND NET FLEW UP (FEB 2017), SECOND TIME THE WIND NET BLEW UP AGAIN (MAY 2017) AND FINALLY 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND THE WIND NET BLEW UP AND TOOK THE ENTIRE SUNROOF WITH IT ALL WHILE DRIVING. MY CAR JUST TURNED 1 YR OLD ON MAY 2017.
MY 2016 HYUNDAI SONATA MISFIRE SOMETIMES AT STARTING. HERE IS A LITTLE DESCRIPTION. TODAY JUNE 28 2016 I STARTED MY VEHICLE AND NOTICED IT WAS RUNNING A LITTLE HARDER MAKING AN UNUSUAL SOUND AS I ENGAGED THE REVERSE THE VEHICLE STARTED ROLLING BACK SLOWLY AND CHECKING LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL AND STOP. IT ALL SOUNDS LIKE THE VEHICLE HAS MISFIRED AND IS RUNNING ROUGH. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED THE ENGINE AND STARTED ONE MORE TIME AND THIS TIME THE VEHICLE STARTED IMMEDIATELY. THIS SAME ISSUE HAS HAPPENED ABOUT A MONTH AGO AS I WAS LIVING THE LIBRARY.
WHILE I WAS ENTERING THE FREEWAY TRYING TO MERGE IN THE TRAFFIC USING LEFT SIGNAL AND DEPENDING ON MY CAR LANE CHANGE ASSISTANCE THAT FAILED TO DETECT THE CAR ON MY LEFT BLIND ZONE, FORCED ME TO TURN AWAY FROM THE CAR TO THE RIGHT SIDE CAUSED BODY DAMAGE TO MY CAR PASSENGER SIDE DUE TO THE STREET GUARD RAILS. THE LANE CHANGE ASSISTANCE FAILED TO DETECT CARS MANY TIMES, I WILL TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER.
WHILE DRIVING, MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I GOT AN ALERT THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT ASAP BUT CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL MY APPOINTMENT IN 4 DAYS. LATER ON THAT DAY, I WAS I FULLY STOPPED IAT A FLASHING YELLOW LIGHT, THEN ATTEMPTED TO CROSS OVER A LANE OF TRAFFIC. THE CAR MOVED BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 12 MPH - ALMOST CAUSING ME TO BE HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAD TO TURN MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON AND COAST UNTIL I COULD PULL OVER. I CALLED HYUNDAI AND THEY EXPEDITED MY APPOINTMENT BUT CLAIMED THERE ARE NO ACTIVE RECALLS. HOWEVER THE TECHNICIAN SAID THAT THERE IS A "CAMPAIGN" AND THAT HE REPLACED THE PART. THEIR WEBSITE SAYS THIS: SONATA 2.4L ECM UPDATE & VCM (16-01-064) I ALMOST GOT HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC BECAUSE OF THIS ECM ISSUE AND I THINK THAT HYUNDAI IS PUTTING PEOPLE IN DANGER BY DOWNPLAYING THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS ISSUE. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL - NOT A "CAMPAIGN" AND THEY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO NOTIFY CAR OWNERS TO GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED ASAP. IT COULD BE A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH.
WHILE DRIVING I NOTICE THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMS TO STICK SLIGHTLY SO THAT YOU HAVE TO TURN THE WHEEL EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT SLIGHTLY THEN IT RESUMES STEERING PROPERLY FOR FEW SECONDS THEN IT STICKS AGAIN. IT DOESN'T DO IT ALL THE TIME BUT WHEN IT DOES IT MAKES ME THINK THAT THE STEERING WHEEL IS GETTING READY TO LOCK UP. I NOTICE THIS MOSTLY ON HIGHWAYS AND IT REALLY WEARS YOU OUT TRYING TO DRIVE AND WORRYING THAT THE STEERING MIGHT LOCK UP. THIS HAPPENS A LOT.
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND THE CAR STARTED SPITTING AND DID NOT WANT TO GO. THEN WHITE SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE TAIL PIPE. I CUT THE CAR OF AND WAITED IN TRAFFIC WITH MY BABY IN THE CAR , THEN TURNED THE CAR BACK ON. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR DROVE LIKE IT HAD NO ENERGY. I WAS ON MY WAY TO MY NEW JOB FOR THE FIRST DAY.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR COULD NOT BE OPENED FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND WHEN I HIT THE BRAKE. A CLICK NOISE IS ALWAYS COMING WHEN WE HIT THE BRAKE TILL THE END. ALWAYS HAPPENING OBSERVING FROM PAST 2 MONTHS. THE OTHER PROBLEM IS WHEN WE HIT THE BRAKE AND AND HOLD THE SHIFT KNOB IT IS MAKING TICK TICK NOISE. ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN I SHOWED TO THE MECHANIC THEY ARE SAYING IT IS NORMAL BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO DO IT FOR FREE OF CHARGE. HYUNDAI GIVES WARRANTY BUT THE DEALERS NEGLECT TO DO. I AM GETTING A MILEAGE OF AVERAGE 10 MILES IF I EVEN MAINTAIN A SPEED OF 45-50 MPH. IF I PUT 14 GALLONS OF GAS I GET HARDLY 225 MILES AND I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR AND I CHANGE THE OIL BEFORE THE SERVICE INTERVAL.
CAR STALLS WHILE DRIVING - HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES - VERY DANGEROUS. HAS BEEN AT DEALER FOR 40 DAYS NOW AND NOT BEEN FIXED.
DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ONCE THE ENGINE IS AT FULL OPERATING TEMPERATURE THERE IS A HARSH SURGE DURING DOWN SHIFTING AT 35 MPH ( ALMOST AS IF I WERE DOWN SHIFTING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION OR HITTING THE BRAKES) THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SLOW MUCH MORE RAPIDLY THAN EXPECTED CAUSING MY HEAD AND BODY TO MOVE FORWARD IN THE CAR. IT IS EXTREMELY DISTRACTING AND I AM NERVOUS IT WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
IT BURNS THROUGH ABOUT 2.5 QUARTS OF OIL EVERY OIL CHANGE AND HYUNDAI SAYS THAT NORMAL... THAT'S FAR FROM NORMAL.

MY CAR HAS SLOWLY BEEN CONSUMING MORE AND MORE OIL AS ITS LIFE GOES ON. I CURRENTLY HAVE 80,000 MILES ON IT AND I CAN'T EVEN GO A WHOLE 3,000 MILES WITHOUT AN OIL CHANGE OR ADDING MORE OIL BECAUSE IT GOES THROUGH IT ALL. SOMETHING NEEDS DONE ABOUT IT AS THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR A CAR.

SAFETY ISSUE: ON SUNDAY, DEC 4, 2016 AT 4:45PM WHILE DRIVING ON EXPRESSWAY IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, I -55 SOUTH, NEAR KEDZIE, OUR 5YR OLD CHILD, WHO WAS IN THE BACKSEAT ON PASSENGER SIDE, IN HER CAR BOOSTER SEAT REPORTED THAT THE CAR SEAT WAS AROUND HER NECK. SHE WAS IN THE REAR WITH ANOTHER CHILD. I, [XXX], UNBUCKLED MY SEAT BEAT AND TURNED AROUND TO FIND THAT THE CAR SEAT WAS TIGHTENED AROUND HER NECK COMPLETELY UNABLE TO LOOSEN WITH LITTLE ROOM FOR HER TO BREATH. I PLACED MY TWO FINGERS, B/T HER NECK AND SEATBELT. MY HUSBAND, PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HE PLACED HIS TWO FINGERS BETWEEN HER NECK AND SEAT BELT. ANYTIME WE TOUCHED THE SEAT BELT IT RETRACTED TIGHTER, WE HAD TO INSTRUCT MY DAUGHTER TO NOT MOVED AND CONTINUED TO SECURE HER AIRWAY AND DID NOT TOUCH THE SEATBELT. I CALLED 911 AND IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO FLAG PEOPLE ON THE EXPRESSWAY DOWN TO HELP. WE ASKED IF HE HAD SCISSORS OR KNIFE TO CUT THE SEAT BELT OFF. THE PASSERBY/MOTORIST IN A WHITE FORD PICK-UP, HAD A SPORTING KNIFE AND ON FIRST TRY COULD NOT CUT THE SEATBELT OFF. ON THE SECOND TRY HE WAS ABLE TO CUT THE SEAT BELT OFF. THE SEAT BELT WAS FOUND TO BE UNBUCKLED. MY DAUGHTER SAID SHE DID NOT UNBUCKLE THE SEAT BELT AND DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS DOING THAT. SHE STATED HER DRESS WAS UNDERNEATH THE BOTTOM OF SEATBELT. THE SEAT BELT WAS FOUND TO BE AROUND HER NECK IN THE FASHION OF THE CANCER RIBBON SIGN. CAR WAS NEW WITH 4500 MILES ON IT. CAR TAKEN BACK TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP, MONDAY, DEC 5. 2016, FILED COMPLAINT WITH HYUNDAI SAFETY TEAM AT 714-965-3316 WITH REP. [XXX]. [XXX]. AT LATER DATE SAID SAFETY TEAM FOUND NOTHING AND SEAT WORK PROPERLY. ON FRIDAY, DEC. 16TH CALLED MAINTENANCE AT DEALERSHIP WHO SAID HYUNDAI SAFETY ENGINEER HAD NOT SEEN THE CAR AND WERE WAITING TO HEAR BACK. NO WORK OR ENGINEER INSPECTION HAS BEEN DONE ON CAR PER [XXX] IN MAINTENANCE UP TO 12/16/16. CASE #[XXX]. ECM ISSUES. CAR HAD ECM PROBLEM AND LOST POWER. WENT INTO THE DEALER, AND THEY SAID THEY REPAIRED IT. DIDN'T EVEN MAKE IT HOME FROM THE DEALER AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. BACK TO DEALER AND THEY SAID AGAIN IT WAS REPAIRED. CAR HAD 10,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. LESS THAN 3,000 MILES LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN - CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF ON THE HIGHWAY. COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. DEALER CLAIMED IT WAS THE SAME PROBLEM AND "FIXED" IT WITH A SOFTWARE UPDATE. NOW SCARED TO DRIVE IT - CONSIDERING LEMON LAW? THREE PROBLEMS IN 6 MONTHS ON A BRAND NEW CAR, AND SAME PROBLEM EVERY SINGLE TIME.
11/18/2016 - I BACKED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND WAS SLOWLY ACCELERATING UP MY RURAL STREET WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY BRAKE HARD OF ITS OWN ACCORD AND MADE A CLUNKING NOISE. NO INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATION WAS PROVIDED AS TO WHY THIS OCCURRED. THIS WAS NOT DRIVER ERROR AS MY FOOT WAS STILL ON THE ACCELERATOR. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD - NOT TURNING - NO OTHER CARS WERE IN THE VICINITY. 11/21/16 - WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR DROVE SLUGGISHLY (ALMOST LIKE THE PARKING BRAKE WAS ON). WHEN I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY, I AGAIN HEARD A CLUNKING SOUND. WHEN I OPENED MY DOOR THERE WAS A PRONOUNCED BURNING SMELL AND THE REAR WHEELS WERE TOO HOT TO TOUCH. AGAIN, THERE WERE NO INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS TO INDICATE ANY ISSUE. THE CAR HAS BEEN OPERATING NORMALLY SINCE THESE INCIDENTS. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO REPLICATE THESE ISSUES. THIS CAR HAS HAD A SERIES OF UNEXPLAINED ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS DESCRIBED IS UNKNOWN. MY WIFE HELEN DRIVES TO WORK 35 MILES EACH WAY DAILY, SHE STARTED HEARING A RATTLING NOISE THAT CAME FROM THE ENGINE AREA. SEVICE TECHNITIAN COMFIRMED IN WRITING VEHICLE HAS A NON REPAIRABLE ENGINE, METAL EXTRACTS WERE FOUND INSIDE THE OIL PAN AND THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED ENGINE IS NO GOOD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.

AROUND 10PM I WAS DRIVING WITH ONE PASSENGER STRAIGHT DOWN A LOCAL SUBURBAN STREET. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS NEARBY ON THE ROAD NOR WERE THERE ANY PEDESTRIANS IN THE VICINITY. ABRUPTLY, WITHOUT ANY WARNING, THE CAR GAVE OFF A BEEP AND BROUGHT ITSELF TO AN IMMEDIATE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT ANY INTERACTION FROM ME AT ALL. THE ROAD IN FRONT OF THE CAR WAS CLEAR AND FOLLOWING THE STOP NO WARNINGS WERE DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING A REASON FOR IT OR A MALFUNCTION IN ANY OF THE SYSTEMS. MY PASSENGER AND I WERE EXTREMELY FORTUNATE THAT THERE WAS NOT A CAR COMING UP BEHIND US BECAUSE THIS IMMEDIATE UNINTENDED STOP FOR NO REASON WOULD VERY LIKELY HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING ALONG AT 70 MPH AND SUDDENLY THE ENGINE STALLED AND ELECTRICAL GAUGES ALL TURNED OFF FOR 15 SECONDS, MEANING ALL GAUGES WENT TO THE LEFT LIKE WHEN YOU TURN YOUR CAR OFF. I HAVE A 2016 HYUNDAI SONATA LIMITED WITH THE ULTIMATE PACKAGE THAT HAS FORWARD COLLISION PROTECTION WHICH IS A WONDERFUL THING IF YOU ARE ABOUT TO HIT A CONCRETE WALL. IT VARIES FROM MILD TO REALLY STRONG. IT TOOK MULTIPLE TRIPS TO THE DEALER FOR THEM TO DETERMINE THAT IT IS NORMAL NOT JUST FOR MY CAR BUT FOR ALL 2016 SONATAS. IT IS A FEATURE WHERE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS INTO NEUTRAL AT LONG STOPS THEN RE-ENGAGES IN DRIVE WHEN THE FOOT IS LIFTED FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE PURPOSE IS SAID TO REDUCE ENGINE LOAD. I THINK THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN IS BECAUSE WHEN A DRIVER REMOVES THEIR FOOT FROM THE BRAKE AND THE CAR'S BRAKE LIGHTS GO OFF, IT IS A SIGNAL TO THE CAR BEHIND THEM THAT THEY ARE ABOUT TO GO. THE DRIVERS SIDE SEATBELT DOESN'T RETRACT ON IT'S OWN/SPRING IS TOO WEAK, YOU HAVE TO FEED IT BACK IN WHICH IS A PAIN. MOST IMPORTANTLY IT PRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD IF YOUR CAR GETS TRAPPED UNDERWATER OR IT'S ON FIRE, THE VERY LONG & BASICALLY LOOSE BELT COULD TANGLE YOU UP LEAVING YOU TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE TO DIE A SLOW DEATH. LUCKILY, WE MAINTAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE THROUGHOUT THE SKID AND SYSTEM FAILURES. WE HAD TO THROW WATER ON REAR WHEELS/BRAKES TO KEEP THEM FROM CATCHING ON FIRE. ENTIRE REAR BRAKE SYSTEM DESTROYED...MULTIPLE SENSOR SYSTEMS FAILED FOR THIS FAULT CONDITION TO OCCUR. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 MPH and approaching a traffic light, the accelerator pedal was released, the vehicle sped up, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle stopped. The contact stated the failure occurred after the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a software recall update. The contact stated that no warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where another update was completed. The contact stated that 4 days later the failure recurred as the accelerated pedal was released, the vehicle accelerated however when she attempted to depress the brake pedal and the vehicle sped up.
