The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and referred the contact back to the dealer. The contact stated that oil was leaking onto the alternator causing the starter to become inoperable. The starter was replaced however, the failure recurred. The failure mileage was unknown. Parts distribution disconnect.
FRONT OIL COVER GASKET LEAKING ON TO ALTERNATOR. ACCORDING TO RESEARCH ON MY VIN NUMBER IT WAS FIXED. AFTER READING OWNER COMPLAINTS OF SAME MODEL VERACRUZ IT APPEARS TO BE A REOCCURRING PROBLEM. WHICH MEANS THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN COMPLETELY RESOLVED. AFTER TRYING TO CRANK VEHICLE AT SOME POINT EARLIER THIS YEARS AND WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. AFTER FURTHER EXAMINATION OIL WAS VISABLE AS WELL AS THE SMELL OF OIL ON ALTERNATOR. CAR LATER CRANK WITH NO PROBLEM. BUT OIL LEAK IS BECOMING A PROBLEM AS IT IS OBVIOUS THE LEAK IS INCREASING.
WHEN PRESS THE BRAKES THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT COME ON. THE VEHICLE REAR LIGHTS ARE ON BUT THE BRAKES LIGHTS DO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PUSHED WHEN HAVING TO STOP OR SLOW DOWN. ONLY FOUND OUT ABOUT THE LIGHTS BECAUSE INDIVIDUAL BEHIND MY VERACRUZ PULLED FROM AROUND ME TO THE DRIVER SIDE OF MY CAR AND TOLD ME I HAD NO BRAKE LIGHTS JUST TAIL LIGHTS AND HE ALMOST REAR-REAR ENDED ME AT THE STOPLIGHT.
THE TILT AND TELOCOPING FEATURE STOPPED WORKING ON THE STEERING WHEEL A WHILE BACK. IT CAN ONLY GO IN AND OUT, NOT UP AND DOWN. CAUSING IT TO BE HARDER TO REACH, SEE, AND STEER THE VEHICLE.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TWICE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE SHE HAD THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED ON BOTH OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT THEN RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V705000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE RECALL REPAIR WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE. ABC HYUNDAI (6825 REDWOOD ST, LAS VEGAS, NV 89118) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT PARTS WERE NOT YET AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 140,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
The contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Veracruz. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V705000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle loss motive power without warning. The vehicle was towed to the residence and the contact’s husband inspected the vehicle and noticed that there was oil leaking from the valve cover gasket onto the alternator and battery. The contact’s husband replaced the alternator and valve cover gasket himself. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer. The dealer informed the contact in March of 2021, that there was no remedy for the recall repair. The vehicle remained at the dealer. The contact was informed by the dealer that the remedy was available however, they would not perform the recall repair due to the engine failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the part was not yet available. The failure mileage was unavailable.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IN REVERSE IN THE PROCESS OF TURNING THE VEHICLE AROUND FROM A HILL, THE FRONT PASSENGER NOTICED THAT THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. BOTH THE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER EXITED THE VEHICLE AND WITHIN MINUTES THERE WAS A FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED. A POLICE AND FIRE REPORT WERE FILED. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. HE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT DUE TO THE FIRE, THE DASHBOARD MELTED, RUBBER HOSES BURNED, WINDSHIELD FRACTURED AND THE FRONT SEATS MELTED. THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE WAS NEAR A CAMPUS DORMITORY AND WAS TOWED TO THE CAMPUS PARKING LOT WHERE IT REMAINED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE NATIONAL CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT CALLED THE CONTACT AND REQUESTED SEVERAL INFORMATION SUCH AS A COPY OF THE TITLE, COPY OF THE CURRENT REGISTRATION, INSPECTION AUTHORIZATION FORM, OWNERS DRIVERS LICENSE, LIST OF ITEMS LOST IN THE FIRE, INSURANCE ADJUSTERS NAME/PHONE NUMBER/CLAIM NUMBER, AND PHOTOS/VIDEO OF THE INCIDENT. THE CONTACT HAD NOT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER DIRECTLY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TT*JB
AFTER HAVING MY VALVE COVERS FIXED 2 X'S FOR LEAKING UNDER WARRANTY/RECALL IT STARTED LEAKING A 3RD TIME AND FINALLY LEAD TO ENGINE FAILURE WHILE AT THE DEALER TO BE FIXED AT 101143 MILES 11/2017. THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING INTERMITTENTLY ABOUT THIS TIME ALSO. DEALER SAID TRANS NEEDED REPLACING. AFTER A LOT OF ARGUING AND RESTLESS NIGHTS; THE DEALER COVERED A REMANUFACTURED SHORT BLOCK. I HAD TOO COVER EVERYTHING ELSE, $4200. A LITTLE OVER A YEAR LATTER THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING UNPLEASANT NOISES FOR 10-15 SEC ON A COLD START. DEALER SAYS THESE ARE "NORMAL ENGINE NOISES" AND I GOT ABOUT 5-10 MILES FROM THE DEALER AND THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ENGINE MADE KNOCKING NOISES INTERMITTENTLY. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A DIFFERENT DEALER IMMEDIATELY. OIL PUMP BAD AND NEEDS ANOTHER ENGINE. SAME ENGINE HAS BEEN RECALLED BY HYUNDAI FROM 2011-2014 FOR PREMATURE FAILURES, BUT NOT THE 2010. I HAVE TWO MUCH OLDER NON-HYUNDAI CARS WITH CLOSE TO 200K MILES ON THEM AND I DON'T HAVE ISSUES LIKE THIS AT ALL.
VEHICLE'S ENGINE COMPARTMENT BURST INTO FLAMES WHILE I WAS DRIVING, WITHOUT ANY WARNING, THERE WAS NO COLLISION. COMPLETELY DESTROYED ENTIRE FRONT END. FIRE DEPARTMENT COULDN'T FIND THE CAUSE. UNKNOWN.
MY WAS HUSBAND WAS DROPPING ME OFF AT WORK DRIVING BACK HOME WHICH IS LESS THAN 5MINUTES FROM MY JOB ON A STREET THERE WAS A LOUD POP AND THE DRIVER ON THE SIDE WAS YELLING THE CAR WAS ON FIRE HE PULLED OVER TOOK MY SWEATER OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND PUT THE FIRE OUT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, BATTERY, CHECK ENGINE, AND BRAKE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AND THE ENGINE SEIZED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.
OUR HYUNDAI VERACRUZ GOT ALL OF SUDDEN STOPPED WHILE ON THE ROAD. IT DID NOT MOVE AND ALL THE TRAFFIC GOT BACKED UP LUCKILY THERE WAS NO HEAVY VEHICLE EXCEPT FOR TOO MANY CARS. FEW NICE PEOPLE REALLY HELPED US TO SOME HOW MOVE THE CAR AND AT LEAST GET OUT OF BUSY ROAD SO THAT TRAFFIC CAN GET THROUGH. THEN THE CAR GOT TOWED TO THE AUTHORIZED HYUNDAI SERVICE DEALER AND THEY TOLD US THAT THE ALTERNATOR IS HAVING THE PROBLEM AND NEED TO BE CHANGED. WE DID SOME ONLINE SEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THE IN 2015 HYUNDAI DID HAD A RECALL FOR THE VALVE COVER GASKET AND IF REQUIRED THEY WOULD ALSO CHANGE THE ALTERNATOR. I AM NOT SURE IF OUR DEALER CHANGED THE ALTERNATOR AT THE TIME WHEN RECALLED ITEM WAS GETTING FIXED AND EVEN IF DEALER HAVE CHANGED - ITS BASED ON MY LIMITED AUTO KNOWLEDGE THAT ALTERNATOR LAST AT LEAST 50,000 TO 80,000 MILES. HENCE WE WOULD LIKE TO BRING IT TO THE NOTICE OF NHTSA. THE MAIN REASON IS THE CONCERN FOR SAFETY AS WHEN THIS HAPPEN BOTH THE KIDS WERE IN THE CAR WHICH SCARED US THE MOST. WE HOPE THE AUTHORITY LOOK INTO THE MATTER AND PROVIDES SOME UPDATES TO US ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE AS WE HAVE NOT GOT PROPER REPLY WHILE CONTACT HYUNDAI MOTORS USA CORPORATE OFFICE.
BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON WHEN THE PEDAL IS NOT DEPRESSED AND ESC LIGHT COMES ON WHILE NOT MOVING
I HAD A RECALL #121 WHICH WAS CORRECT AT 50,000 MILES. THE VALUE COVER LEAKS AND DRIPS ONTO THE ALTERNATOR. 25,000 MILES IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR YESTERDAY AND ALL LIGHTS CAME ON SO I TURNED TO GO HOME. CALL THORNTON ROAD HYUNDAI IN LITHIA SPRINGS, GA AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME TO BRING IN MY CAR CAUSE ITS STILL COVERED CAUSE I HAD 74,500 MILES ON MY CAR. MY HUSBAND HAD TO CHARGE UP MY BATTERY JUST TO MAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. I GOT THERE AND I WENT TO SERVICE AND SPOKE WITH THIS LADY AND I EXPLAINED THE SITUATION AND SHE SAID THAT I DIDNT SPEAK WITH ANYONE BECAUSE SHE WAS THE SERVICE MANAGER. SO SHE GAVE ME AN ATTITUDE SAYING IT WAS ALREADY DONE AND THEY WILL NOT DO IT AGAIN. SO MY HUSBAND AND I DROVE HOME AND I BROKE DOWN, MY CAR STOPPED ON ME AND IT WAS SMOKING A LITTLE AND WE HAD TO CHARGE THE BATTERY AGAIN JUST TO GET THE CAR INTO GEAR AND HAD TO GET ONE OF HIS FRIENDS TO TOW MY CAR HOME. IF THEY WOULD OF FIXED THE PROBLEM RIGHT THE FIRST TIME THEN THIS PROBLEM SHOULD OF NOT HAPPENED 25,000 MILES LATER. THEY PUT MY LIFE IN DANGER WHEN I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE HOME AND BROKE DOWN ON A 2-WAY HIGHWAY.
BATTERY AND SEAT BELT INDICATOR LIGHTS BEGAN FLASHING INTERMITTENTLY AND EVENTUALLY I LOST ALL POWER AND ENGINE SHUT DOWN ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WITH SEVERAL CHILDREN AND AN INFANT ON BOARD.
BOTH OF THE FRONT INSIDE DOOR HANDLES WHICH ARE PLASTIC, HAVE BROKEN. THE RESULT OF THIS IS THAT YOU MUST ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS & REACH OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE TO OPEN THE DOORS IN ORDER TO GET OUT OF THE CAR. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY WHEN EACH OF THE HANDLES BROKE. I FEEL THAT THIS IS NOT JUST AN INCONVENIENCE, BUT A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. IF AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED OR A FIRE BROKE OUT & FOR WHATEVER REASON YOU COULDN'T GET YOUR WINDOWS DOWN YOU COULD BE IN SERIOUS RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH.
THE OIL LEAK THAT HAS PREVIOUSLY BEEN REPORTED CAUSED THE ENGINE TO RUN LOW ON OIL. SINCE THERE IS A DRIP PAN UNDER THE ENGINE A CONSUMER WOULD HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING THAT THEIR ENGINE WAS SEVERELY LEAKING. IF THERE IS NO OIL IN YOUR PARKING SPOT AND NO SIGN OF THE CAR SMOKING A NORMAL PERSON WOULD NOT CHECK THE OIL WITH EVERY TANK OF GAS. THIS OIL LEAK CAUSED MY ALTERNATOR TO FAIL IN TRAFFIC, AND SINCE THE ENGINE RAN LOW ON OIL I HAD A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE ( THREW A ROD) AT 126K. THE OIL LEAK CAUSES LONG-TERM DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE THAT HYUNDAI REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE.
I RECENTLY WAS DRIVING MY 2010 HYUNDAI VERA CRUZ ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED ON ME. I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A MIXTURE OF OIL AND WATER COMING FROM BENEATH THE CAR. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I WAS INFORMED THE MOTOR WAS LOCKED. I HAD JUST REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR IN MAY OF THIS YEAR DUE TO OIL LEAKING ON IT. I CAN'T RECALL IF THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAD THE CAR SERVICED FOR THE RECALL OR NOT. BUT I DID CALL IN ABOUT IT AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS NOT ON THE LIST AND IF I NEED TO HAVE IT CHECKED AT THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER THEN I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE SERVICE CHARGE. WELL TO ME THAT WASN'T FAIR, BUT NOW THE FAIRNESS IS GONE BECAUSE NOW I'LL HAVE TO PAY OUT 6200 TO HAVE THE ENGINE REPLACED. THIS ISSUE COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED.

RE: NHTSA Recall Number 20V-705. The engine value cover gasket leaks oil onto the alternator. My engine has been smoking for six months (January 2021-present). This problem was not repaired correctly under a previous recall in 2014. In 2016 the problem persisted and my car shut off unexpectedly, causing me to stop in the high speed lane of the Massachusetts Turnpike, nearly resulting in a major accident and fatality. The value gasket and alternator was replaced the day after the incident but the problem has emerged again. I have received two notices from Hyundai in last few months under recall 197 stating that a "remedy is being prepared" following the NHTSA recall order of November 2020, but to date no remedy has been noticed. Hyundai customer service suggests that I pay for the repair myself at the dealer and seek reimbursement from Hyundai America myself but I lack funds to do so. As stated, the engine is smoking, the check engine light is on, and I fear for my family's safety. This vehicle is needed for transportation to work and to purchase essentials. Hyundai's response to this issue has not been timely. By this complaint, I am respectfully requesting the NHTSA to order Hyundai to directly reimburse my local dealer for this critical repair so as to remedy this dangerous situation. WITHIN THE LAST WEEK THE INTERIOR HANDLES HAVE BROKEN ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOORS. THE DRIVERS SIDE PASSENGER DOOR WILL ONLY OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE MAKING IT UNSAFE TO ALLOW ANYONE TO RIDE THERE UNTIL IT IS REPAIRED. THE DRIVER DOOR WILL OPEN BUT GETS STUCK AT TIMES AND DOES NOT WANT TO SHUT REQUIRING YOU TO MANUALLY HOLD THE DOOR CLOSED. THIS IS UNSAFE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE DOOR HANDLE. LATER, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLE ALSO FRACTURED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WAS NOT DETERMINED. AS OF TODAY 3 OUT OF 4 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ON MY 2010 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ HAVE BROKEN. THE REMAINING DOOR IS INTERMITTENT DUE TO A DEFECTIVE DOOR LOCK. FROM AN ONLINE SEARCH THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, SPANNING SEVERAL YEARS AND MODELS, OBVIOUSLY DUE TO POOR DESIGN OR MATERIALS. IT IS ALSO NOT ONE THAT I CARE TO PAY TO REPAIR AND THEN HAVE TO PAY AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. INABILITY TO OPEN A DOOR FROM THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE CREATES A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT I WILL NEED TO BE ABLE TO HOPEFULLY UNLOCK THE DOOR, OPEN THE WINDOW AND REACH THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE TO GET OUT. OF COURSE THIS ASSUMES THAT POWER IS NOT INTERRUPTED AS A RESULT OF ACCIDENT. WITHOUT ELECTRICAL WE WOULD BE TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. ADDITIONALLY, AS A MAN OF COLOR, I DON'T CHERISH THE THOUGHT OF HAVING TO EXPLAIN TO A COP THAT I CANNOT EXIT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT FIRST REACHING OUTSIDE. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST PROBLEM I'VE HAD WITH THIS CAR BUT THIS IS ONE THAT HYUNDAI SHOULD DEFINITELY RECALL AND REPAIR.

HYUNDAI VERA CRUZ DOOR HANDLES HAVE BEEN BREAKING FOR THREE YEARS. THIS PREVENTS THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FROM EXITING THE VEHICLE OR ESCAPING SHOULD THERE BE AN ACCIDENT. BROUGHT THIS TO THE DEALER'S ATTENTION. RICK CASE HYUNDAI ADVISED THEY DO NOT STOCK THOSE PARTS AND WE HAD TO RETURN TO REPAIR THE DOOR HANDLE. THIS MADE EXITING THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT; LOWER THE DRIVER'S WINDOW, OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE, EXIT AND CLOSE THE WINDOW. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS THREE YEARS AGO, THE DEALER REPAIRED THE DOOR HANDLE. PARTS WERE CHEAP PLASTIC. THE SECOND INCIDENT WAS AT MY CHILDREN'S SCHOOL DROP OFF LINE WHERE MY SON WAS SCOLDED FOR EXITING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER LEFT SIDE. THE REAR RIGHT SIDE WAS BROKEN, THUS PREVENTING HIM FROM EXITING THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO EVERY HANDLE, YET THEY ARE REPLACED WITH THE SAME INFERIOR AND DANGEROUS DOOR HANDLES THAT CONTINUE TO BREAK. TONIGHT, THE REAR RIGHT INTERIOR HANDLE BROKE. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY THE GOVERNMENT, HYUNDAI HAS NOT REPAIRED THE ISSUE BY BUILDING A BETTER DOOR HANDLE.. SHOULD THE CAR GO IN THE WATER, OR BE ENGULFED IN FLAMES, WE CANNOT ESCAPE AND BE HARMED FOR NO REASON. THIS IS AN EASY FIX THAT NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED. THANK YOU *TR
DRIVERS LEFT FRONT INSIDE DOOR HANDLE BEGAN TO FAIL DUE TO WHAT APPEARS TO BE A BREAKDOWN OF ITS ELEMENTS.YESTERDAY IT COMPLETY BROKE OFF AND I HAVE TO USE THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE TO GET OUT OF CAR.
2010 HYUNDAI VERA CRUZ. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ALTERNATOR AND THE FRONT VALVE COVER RECALL. *SMD WHEN THE CONSUMER ARRIVED AT THE DEALER, TO COMPLY WITH THE RECALL, HE WAS INFORMED THERE WAS NO APPROVED REMEDY FOR THE ISSUE. RECALL # 14V415000. *JB
SINCE ABOUT MAY OR JUNE OF 2013, 3 OUT OF 4 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES HAVE BROKEN ON MY 2010 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ. THIS IS NOT JUST COINCIDENCE. THE 2 FRONT INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES AND THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HAVE BROKEN. I AM FINALLY REPORTING THIS BECAUSE THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR CANNOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE WHICH IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. I RESEARCHED TO SEE IF THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE CAR AND IT APPEARS THAT SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS HAVE POSTED COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE. IN FACT, MY HUSBAND ALSO OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ AND HIS PASSENGER SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HAS ALSO CRACKED MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. I SENT AN EMAIL TO HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE WHICH IS POSTED ON THEIR NATIONAL OEM WEBSITE. THEIR RESPONSE WAS ESSENTIALLY THAT IT IS MY PROBLEM TO FIX. I DO KNOW THAT OTHER YEAR AND MAKE/MODEL HYUNDAI VEHICLES HAVE A SPECIFIC RECALL ON THESE DOOR HANDLES. I AM WONDERING WHY THE 2010 VERACRUZ DOES NOT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY INCLUDED IN AND REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V415000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED AN ADDITIONAL FOUR TIMES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE THORNTON ROAD HYUNDAI DEALER WHERE THE VALVE COVER GASKET, ALTERNATOR, AND BATTERY WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 10353756. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
THE BRAKES FAILED TO PROPERLY STOP MY 2010 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ WHILE DRIVING ON A PRIMARY ARTERIAL ROAD. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF ANY BRAKE FAILURE OR WARNING LIGHT PRIOR TO THIS BRAKING FAILURE. BRAKES WERE WORKING FINE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC JUST PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED FOR STOPPED TRAFFIC AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THIS RESULTED IN A FRONT TO REAR END COLLISION AT AN APPROXIMATE SPEED BETWEEN 5 AND 10 MPH. THERE WERE NO SKID MARKS AND DURING BRAKING THE BRAKE PEDAL DID NOT INDICATE THAT THE ABS WAS ACTIVE (NO PULSATING OF THE PEDAL). THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED FROM THE DRIVERS STEERING WHEEL WITHOUT INJURY TO THE DRIVER OF THE HYUNDAI. THERE WERE NO OTHER PASSENGERS IN THE HYUNDAI NOR IN THE IMPACTED VEHICLE. THE DRIVER OF THE IMPACTED VEHICLE DID NOT SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION BUT DID COMPLAIN OF BACK AND NECK PAIN. THE FRONT END OF THE HYUNDAI HAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE, INCLUDING FRAME DAMAGE, RADIATOR DAMAGE, AND ENGINE DAMAGE. THE IMPACTED VEHICLE (A LATE 1960'S TRUCK) HAS REAR BUMPER AND FRAME DAMAGE. AFTER DISCUSSIONS WITH BOTH THE INVESTIGATING OFFICER AND THE BODY SHOP OWNER, I CONTACTED THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND TRIED TO SPEAK WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER. I HAVE LEFT TWO (2) VOICEMAIL MESSAGES TO DATE (BOTH THE DAY OF THE ACCIDENT) AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RETURN PHONE CALL. THIS DEALERSHIP HAD JUST COMPLETED THE BRAKE SWITCH RECALL WORK ON THIS VEHICLE ON 12/24/13, INCLUDING A COMPLETE INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE. NOTHING OTHER THAN NORMAL TIRE WEAR WAS REPORTED ON THE DEALERSHIP'S INSPECTION REPORT. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THERE IS A BRAKING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. WHEN THE DEALERSHIP RETURNS MY CALL, I WILL ASK HYUNDAI FOR A FULL INVESTIGATION OF THE ACCIDENT, A REVIEW OF THE ON-BOARD COMPUTER, AND ANY OTHER DIAGNOSTICS THAT CAN BE RETRIEVED FROM THE VEHICLE. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the alternator to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but experienced the same failure three years later. The contact took the vehicle back to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the alternator needed to be replaced a second time. The vehicle was repaired but experienced the same failure three years later. The contact took the vehicle to another local dealer: Southtowne Hyundai of Newnan (800 Bullsboro Dr, Newnan, GA 30263:(770) 253-1407), where it was diagnosed with needing the alternator to be replaced a third time. The vehicle was repaired for a third time. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V705000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
2010 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO STOP LAMP SWITCH RECALL NOTICE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE NEAREST DEALER WAS 50 MILES AWAY. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO HAVE A KIA DEALERSHIP, PERFORM THE RECALL, WHICH WAS ONLY 8 MILES FROM HIS HOME. HOWEVER, HYUNDAI STATED KIA WAS NOT AUTHORIZED TO MAKE THE REPAIR.
I STARTED UP THE VEHICLE AND HAD NO INTERIOR LIGHTS. FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS, THE LIGHTS WOULD NOT COME ON UPON STARTING UP IF THE LIGHTS WERE LEFT IN THE AUTO MODE OR INITIALLY TURNING THE LIGHTS ON. THEN THE LIGHTS STARTED FLICKERING DURING DRIVING AND NOW THE LIGHTS GO OUT WHILE DRIVING THE ENTIRE DASH. *TR
ON 8/1/2013, WHILE DRIVING AT 35-40 MPH, THE CAR LOST ACCELERATION (ENGINE WAS RUNNING BUT PRESSING GAS PEDAL HAD NO EFFECT ON ENGINE RPMS, BRAKES AND STEERING FUNCTIONED CORRECTLY), AND "ESC" (NOT "ESC OFF") DASH LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. STOPPED AND TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND THE CAR ACCELERATED FINE. TOOK CAR INTO TEMPE HYUNDAI, BUT THEY COULD FIND "NO ERROR CODES IN COMPUTER". ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER, PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. RETURNED TO TEMPE HYUNDAI, AND THEY KEPT CAR OVER NIGHT FOR A TECHNICIAN TO DRIVE HOME AND BACK, BUT PROBLEM DID NOT OCCUR FOR THEM. ON SATURDAY, 8/17/2013, THE PROBLEM BECAME CONSTANT, AND I FOUND THAT (WHILE IT WAS HAPPENING) I COULD TURN ESC OFF AND THE PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY STOPPED, UNTIL I TURNED ESC BACK ON. I DROVE TO TEMPE HYUNDAI, AND THEIR TECHNICIAN WENT FOR A DRIVE WITH ME AND SAW THE PROBLEM OCCURRING. TEMPE HYUNDAI REPLACED WHAT THEY CALLED THE STEERING CONTROL SENSOR (SAID IT WAS READING 20 DEGREES WHEN SET AT 0 DEGREES) AND MY WIFE PICKED UP THE CAR ON WEDNESDAY, 8/21/2013. ON FRIDAY EVENING, 8/23/2013, THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN, AND THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO TEMPE HYUNDAI ON SATURDAY, 8/24/2013. AGAIN, THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY ERROR CODES, BUT KEPT THE CAR TO ALLOW THEIR "EXPERT" TECHNICIAN TO CHECK IT OUT. THE INTERNET IS RIFE WITH REPORTS OF MANY MAKES/MODELS OF CARS MANIFESTING THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM, AND IT'S SCARY TO THINK WHAT MAY HAPPEN IF THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WHILE IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND/OR ON A BUSY FREEWAY WITH SPEEDING SEMI TRUCKS ALL AROUND. THE CAUSE(S) OF THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE DETERMINED AND THE FIX PROVIDED TO ALL WHO ARE AT RISK BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED OR MAIMED! *TR
MY CAR LOST ACCELERATION AND ESC LIGHT TURNED ON WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 40 MILE/HR. THE CAR WAS PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED. THE ESC LIGHT TURNED OFF AND THE ACCELERATION WENT BACK TO NORMAL. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN TO A HYUNDAI DEALER LOCATED IN CORONA, CA. NO ERROR CODES WERE FOUND, THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED AND NOTHING WAS DONE ABOUT THE ISSUE. *TR

IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT OIL WAS LEAKING FROM THE FRONT CYLINDER VALVE COVER GASKET ONTO THE ALTERNATOR, WHICH CAUSED THE ALTERNATOR TO FAIL. AS A RESULT, THE ALTERNATOR, THE FRONT VALVE COVER GASKET, AND THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V415000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND STATED THAT THE REMEDY WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. MY 2010 HYUNDAI VERACRUZ HAD AN OIL LEAK. SINCE THE ALTERNATOR IS ON BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE, THE OIL VALVES LEAKED UNDETECTED ONTO THE ALTERNATOR CAUSING IT TO SHORT OUT. THE VEHICLE LOCKED UP AND I COULD NOT STEER IT. THANK GOD I WASN'T DRIVING FAST AND WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A PARKING LOT WHERE I FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. I COULD NOT PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK, THE GEAR SHIFT WOULD ONLY GO INTO NEUTRAL. AS A RESULT, I HAD TO USE THE SAFETY BRAKE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING BACK. *TR
