IN THE JUST OVER 3 YEARS THAT I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR I HAVE HAD 2 INCIDENTS WHERE THE CAR ACCELERATES AND ENGINE RACES WHEN BRAKING AT A LOW SPEED MAKING A TURN ON A SIDE STREET. I TRY TO BRING THE TO A STOP BUT IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO DO AS THE BRAKES ARE NOT FULLY STOPPING THE CAR AND BOTH TIMES I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK QUICKLY IN OTHER TO COMPLETELY STOP IT WHICH BROUGHT IT TO A JERKING HALT. THERE IS SOME DEFECT IN THIS MODEL AS I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS SIMILAR STORIES ON A JAGUAR PROBLEMS WEBSITE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND I WAS LUCKY BOTH TIMES TO BE ON SIDE STREETS AS A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WAS AVOIDED AS I IT TOOK ME A FEW SECONDS TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP AS I DID NOT HAVE FULL CONTROL OF CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL JAGUAR IN GLEN COVE NY IN JULY AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE INCIDENT AND HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. LIKE I SAID AT THE BEGINNING THIS ONLY HAPPENED TWICE IN 3 YEARS BUT I ONLY DRIVE 1000 TO 2000 MILES A YEAR AND TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR TOO MUCH AS I MIGHT HIT ANOTHER CAR OR A PERSON IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. THE 2004 JAGUAR X TYPES SHOULD BE RECALLED AS OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH NO SOLUTIONS.
AN INCIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE OCCURRED SOMETIME AROUND CHRISTMAS 2011. THE MOTOR SURGED WHILE I WAS FULLY STOPPED AT A STREET LIGHT. THE MOTOR WAS RUNNING, THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE GEAR, AND MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. I WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY BRING THE CAR UNDER CONTROL. A SECOND EVENT OCCURRED IN 2012, MAY 15TH, AT 11:00 P.M. WHILE I WAS FULLY STOPPED AT A DRIVE THROUGH WINDOW. AGAIN THE MOTOR SURGED, THIS TIME WITH A LOUD SCREECHING SOUND. I APPLIED MAXIMUM BRAKE PRESSURE BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO SURGE FORWARD, APPROXIMATELY SIX FEET. I SUSTAINED FULL FORCE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE, THREW THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL GEAR, AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION IN ORDER TO STOP THE CAR. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE IT HOME WHERE IT HAS REMAINED PARKED---EXCEPT FOR TWO EXCURSIONS TO THE SACRAMENTO JAGUAR DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JAGUAR XJ8. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED ABNORMAL ACCELERATION THREE TIMES WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. IN ORDER TO STOP THE ACCELERATION, THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED FOR THE FAILURE AND WAS NO LONGER BEING DRIVEN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 115,000. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN ONLY ABOUT 26,000 MILES. I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW FROM MANHATTAN JAGUAR DEALERSHIP IN BETHESDA MD. AND IS STILL UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. OVER THE LAST 7 YEARS THAT I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR I HAVE HAD 3 INCIDENTS OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THE FIRST HAPPENED ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO AS I CAME TO A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT. I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN. BUT THEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY MADE A ROARING SOUND AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. AS I WAS PUSHING THE BRAKE I ALSO PUSHED THE GEAR TO THE "P" AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED ABOUT 6 FEET BEYOND THE STOPPING LINE. THE SECOND TIME I WAS ACTUALLY STOPPED TO MAKE A TURN AND AGAIN SUDDENLY THE ENGINE MADE A ROARING SOUND AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN A SUDDEN ACCELERATION.. MY WIFE WAS SITTING NEXT TO ME AND AGAIN I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND IMMEDIATELY PUSH THE GEAR TO "P". BOTH OF INCIDENTS WERE REPORTED TO THE DEALER TO NO AVAIL. THE LAST INCIDENT HAPPENED ON JANUARY 13, 2011 AS I WAS STOPPED 5-6 FEET FROM THE CAR AHEAD OF ME IN A BUSY TRAFFIC. AGAIN ALL THE SUDDEN IT WAS A ROARING SOUND AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION DESPITE MY PUSHING ON THE BRAKE. THE DISTANCE BETWEEN ME AND THE FRONT CAR WAS TOO SHORT; SO BEFORE I COULD STOPPED THE CAR, I HIT THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE STOPPED AHEAD OF ME. MY INSURANCE PAID $725 TO FIX THE DAMAGES TO THE REAR BUMPER OF THAT CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY KEPT IT FOR THREE DAYS CLAIMING THAT SINCE THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ACCELERATION THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME. I ALSO DROVE THE CAR WITH ONE OF THE DEALERS STAFF. THE PURPOSE I GUESS WAS FOR ME TO REPLICATE THE ACCELERATION AS IF THE PREVIOUS CASES WERE DONE ON PURPOSE. THIS CAR ALSO HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE SIDE MIRRORS. THEY WOULD MOVE AS I WAS DRIVING. AFTER SOME 10 TIMES COMPLAINT, FINALLY THEY SAID A GADGET UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT WAS THE CULPRIT AND FINALLY TOOK CARE OF
WHILE DRIVING ON 95 SOUTH IN RI AT APPROX. 60MPH, MY 2004 JAGUAR XJ8 SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER, INCLUDING ENGINE, STEERING AND BRAKING ABILITIES. IT NEARLY RESULTED IN A MULTI CAR FATAL ACCIDENT FROM BEING HIT FROM BEHIND. THE DEALER STATED, AFTER A SYSTEMS CHECK, THAT AN ACCELERATOR PEDAL SENSOR HAD FAILED RESULTING IN A $500.00 REPLACEMENT COST. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PART OF A SAFETY RECALL. *TR
2004 JAGUAR XJ8 . CONSUMER STATES UNINTENDED ACCELERATION *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE APPROACHING A FOUR-WAY STOP, HE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN. HE WAS DRIVING SLOWLY, WHEN HE REMOVED HIS RIGHT FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR AND BEGAN TO PRESS DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. INSTEAD OF THE VEHICLE GRADUALLY SLOWING DOWN, THE ENGINE RACED TO AN EXTREMELY HIGH RPM. HE PRESSED FURTHER ON THE BRAKE, BUT THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD ABOUT 30 FEET BEFORE STOPPING JUST SHORT OF A TRUCK CROSSING IN THE INTERSECTION. THE SAME SITUATION HAPPENED AGAIN IN A PARKING LOT WHICH CAUSED THE CONSUMER T RUN UP ON A CONCRETE STOP ALMOST STRIKING A PEDESTRIAN. WHEN THE CONSUMER ARRIVED HOME LATER IN THE EVENING, THERE WAS A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL AND HE IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER CHECKED FOR THE RECALL AND THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN WHERE THE CONSUMER ALMOST HIT A VEHICLE APPROACHING FROM HIS LEFT. A NOTIFICATION LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHICH READ DSC NOT AVAILABLE. IN EACH INSTANCE, THE CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING NO MORE THAN 5 TO 10 MPH. 8JB
JAGUAR 2004 FAILURE OF ACCELERATOR SENSOR WHILE DRIVING ON I-40/I75 IN KNOXVILLE, TN RESULTING IN A INSTANT SHUTDOWN OF ENGINE THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FATAL OR NEAR FATAL ACCIDENT BY BEING "RUN OVER" BY TRAFFIC FROM THE REAR. RESULTED IN A 900 DOLLAR REPAIR AS SENSOR WAS A PART OF THROTTLE BODY THAT ACCORDING TO DEALER HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WAS BRAKING INTO A PARKING SPOT AT THE BANK WHEN WITHOUT NOTICE MY VEHICLE ACCELERATED WILDLY. I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE WITH ALL OF MY WEIGHT TO STOP FROM LITERALLY RAMMING MY VEHICLE INTO THE SIDE OF THE BANK. THE ROAR OF THE TRANSMISSION WAS LIKE SOMEONE WAS STEPPING FULL FORCE ON THE GAS PEDAL, BUT MY FOOT WAS SOLIDLY ON THE BRAKE AND NOT EVEN TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. IT WAS TERRIFYING. IF THERE HAPPENED TO BE SOMEONE WALKING ON THE SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF ME, I WOULD HAVE HIT THEM. I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AVOID IT. AS IT WAS, THE ONLY WAY I COULD STOP THE CAR FROM DRIVING FORWARD WAS TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK AND THEN TURN IT OFF. AFTER WAITING A WHILE, I RESTARTED THE CAR AND CAUTIOUSLY DROVE HOME WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM WITH SUDDEN ACCELERATION IS SO SERIOUS. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS AT A PARKING LOT BOOTH. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BREAK AND THE ENGINE RAISED FOR ABOUT TEN SECONDS LIKE IF SOMEONE WAS PRESSING THE GAS. IT SOUNDED LIKE THE ENGINE WAS GOING TO BLOW UP. I HAD TO PRESS THE BREAK PEDAL HARD TO KEEP IT FROM MOVING AND HITTING THE GATE. THE SECOND INCIDENT WAS APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS LATER AT AN INTERSECTION. I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BREAK WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED RAISING AGAIN LIKE IF SOMEONE WAS PRESSING ON THE GAS. I LOOKED DOWN TO SEE IF THE RUG WAS ON THE WAY. THERE WAS NOTHING PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL. THIS TIME IT DID NOT STOP BY ITSELF; I HAD TO SHIFT GEARS BECAUSE IT WAS HARD TO HOLD THE BREAK. I PUT IT ON PARK AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR BACK ON BUT IT WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. RUSNAK-PASADENA KEPT IT FOR 2 WEEKS. THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AND DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THEY SUGGESTED I HAD MY FOOT ON BOTH PEDALS AND WANTED TO GIVE ME INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE ONE PEDAL AT A TIME. I DROVE THE CAR THREE MORE TIMES (LOCAL DRIVING ONLY). THE LAST TIME WAS YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. I WAS GETTING OUT OF A PARKING LOT, BEHIND TWO CARS, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ENGINE STARTED TO RAISE AGAIN. I PLACED IT IN PARK AND THE ENGINE STOPPED RAISING. I DROVE THE CAR HOME AND STARTED LOOKING AT ANY OTHER SUCH REPORTS FOR THIS CAR. I FOUND TWO INCIDENTS IN YOUR FILES. ONE WAS REPORTED ON 01/26/05 (REFERENCE #1018965), THE OTHER WAS REPORTED ON 09/20/06 (REFERENCE #10168741). *JB
I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE IN FRONT OF A DRUG STORE. WHILE MANEUVERING THE CAR BETWEEN THE LINES, MY FOOT WAS ALREADY PARTIALLY ON THE BRAKE. THEN THE CAR ACCELERATED MORE AND THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR. THUS THE CAR SURGED OVER THE CURB AND INTO THE WALL. THERE WAS NO CONTROL TO THIS CAR AT ALL. ESTIMATED DAMAGE TO THE CAR IS $6800.00 AN INSURANCE CLAIMS PERSON WILL BE CHECKING OUT THE BRAKES AND ALSO REASON FOR CAR ACCELERATION.
