The contact owns a 2004 Jaguar XJ8. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal made an abnormal rattling sound and went down to the floorboard. The vehicle hesitated to respond. The ABS warning light and the traction control warning light were illuminated. Additionally, the message "Park Brake Fault" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the brakes had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V144000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic), however, the parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. The local dealer and a secondary dealer, Land Rover Princeton (958 US-206, Princeton, NJ 08540), were contacted. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
IN THE JUST OVER 3 YEARS THAT I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR I HAVE HAD 2 INCIDENTS WHERE THE CAR ACCELERATES AND ENGINE RACES WHEN BRAKING AT A LOW SPEED MAKING A TURN ON A SIDE STREET. I TRY TO BRING THE TO A STOP BUT IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO DO AS THE BRAKES ARE NOT FULLY STOPPING THE CAR AND BOTH TIMES I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK QUICKLY IN OTHER TO COMPLETELY STOP IT WHICH BROUGHT IT TO A JERKING HALT. THERE IS SOME DEFECT IN THIS MODEL AS I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS SIMILAR STORIES ON A JAGUAR PROBLEMS WEBSITE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND I WAS LUCKY BOTH TIMES TO BE ON SIDE STREETS AS A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WAS AVOIDED AS I IT TOOK ME A FEW SECONDS TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP AS I DID NOT HAVE FULL CONTROL OF CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL JAGUAR IN GLEN COVE NY IN JULY AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE INCIDENT AND HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. LIKE I SAID AT THE BEGINNING THIS ONLY HAPPENED TWICE IN 3 YEARS BUT I ONLY DRIVE 1000 TO 2000 MILES A YEAR AND TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR TOO MUCH AS I MIGHT HIT ANOTHER CAR OR A PERSON IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. THE 2004 JAGUAR X TYPES SHOULD BE RECALLED AS OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH NO SOLUTIONS.
THE CAR COUGHT ON FIRE
THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON WITH ONLY 54,000 MILES ON THIS JAGUAR, THAT IS NOT NORMAL AS I HAVE OWNED JAGUAR CARS FOR 3 DECADES. ALSO THE AIR SUSPENSION FAILURE OCCURRED AT 55,000 MILES WHICH IS THE CURRENT MILEAGE AND THE CAR WAS PARKED FOR TWO WEEKS WITHOUT ANY MOVEMENTS. THIS VEHICLE DRIVES LESS THAN 3000 MILES A YEAR NOW AND I'M SUPER DISAPPOINTED IN THIS FACTOR WHERE AS MY WIFE'S MERCEDES S500 WITH 139,000 MILES ON IT HAS NO ISSUES ON IT AT ALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JAGUAR XJ8. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM, DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL, AND ENGINE FAILURE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AND WAS TOWED TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE WIRING IN THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND WATER WAS ENTERING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,483.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JAGUAR XJ8. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO SHIFT UP AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
SUSPENSION FAULT LIGHT COMES ON AND CAR DROPS DOWN,CAN BE DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING AND CAUSE A ACCIDENT,THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY JAGUAR
CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON RESIDENTIAL STREET WHY MAKING TURN AT APPROX 15 MPH. HAD TO HIT BREAK WHILE ENGINE WAS STILL ACCELERATING AND THIS SLOWED CAR A LITTLE. THEN WHILE CAR WAS STILL MOVING THREW IT INTO PARK ANDSHUT OFF CAR.IF ANY PEOPLE OR CARS WERE IN FRONT OF ME WOULD OF HAD ACCIDENT. AFTER WAITING A FEW MINUTES I RESTARTED CAR AND PROCEEDED TO MY HOUSE WHICH WAS ONLY A BLOCK AND A HALF AWAY WITHOUT INCIDENT. CAR IS NOW BEING CHECKED OUT BY LOCAL MECHANIC. VERY SCARY.
FIRST OFF, CAR HAD ABS LIGHT ON. DEALER REPLACED EVERY ABS COMPONENT. NOW ENGINE AND ABS LIGHT ARE INTERCHANGING ON AND OFF. BELIEVE TO BE A WIRING FAULT. ALSO, TRANSFER CASE HAS GONE OUT TWICE IN 2 YEARS. I HAVE HEARD FROM MULTIPLE SOURCES THAT TRANSFER CASES FAIL OFTEN IN THESE CARS WHICH I BELIEVE TO BE A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT.
I HAVE A 2004 X-TYPE JAGUAR AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WILL NOT GO OFF. I HAD IT CHECKED OUT ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT SHOULD I GET IN AN ACCIDENT THE AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS AROUND $1500.00 TO REPAIR IT. I AM HOPING IT IS A RECALL.

MY JAGUAR X-TYPE 2004 CAR WHEN TRAVELING AT ABOUT 25-30 MPH ALTERNATELY GETS SLUGGISH AND SLOWS OR REVS UP, CAUSING ME TO APPLY BRAKES HARD TO PREVENT COLLISIONS. I HAVE TO ALLOW ENORMOUS SPACE BETWEEN ME AND THE VEHICLE AHEAD BECAUSE I AM AFRAID OF COLLIDING WITH VEHICLES IN FRONT. ALSO HAVE TO BRAKE HARD TO TO OVERCOME THE SURGING FORTH OF THE ENGINE. THE CAR WILL ALSO REV UP WHEN I AM PARKING IT. THESE ARE SUCH COMMON OCCURRENCES, AND IT SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURING MALFUNCTION. JAGUAR SHOULD RECALL ALL 2004 X-TYPES TO FIX THESE DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING MACHINES. I REQUEST THAT THE NHTSA IMMEDIATELY FOLLOW UP AND REQUIRE RECALL OF THESE ROAD HAZARDS. WHILE PROCEEDING TO PARK IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND FORCIBLY STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. DURING THIS INCIDENT THE DRIVER HAD NO CONTROL OF BRAKING OR STEERING. THE IMPACT WAS SEVERE ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY AND SUSTAIN MAJOR DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES. *TR
THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. I HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN AN ATTEMPT TO FIX THE LOW SUSPENSION PROBLEM. MY CAR HAS SLOWED DIRECTLY ON THE EXPRESSWAY WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH. IN ADDITION, THE CAR WAS SO LOW THAT IT DRUGGED THE BOTTOM. THE ONLY SOLUTION WAS TO HAVE IT TOWED. THIS PROBLEM HAPPEN LAST YEAR AND I HAD TO RENT A CAR ALL WINTER LONG UNTIL THE WHETHER WARMED UP. I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED BUT IT STARTED AGAIN WITH LOW TEMPERATURE OF 30 DEGREES. JAGUAR SHOULD REFUND OUR MONEY FOR THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL. *TR

THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
JUST RIDING AROUND THE CITY (MACON, GA) AND THE VEHICLE LOW LIGHT CAME ON. WENT OUT AFTER A WHILE SO DIDN'T WORRY ABOUT IT. THE NEXT MORNING NOTICED THE FRONT END WAS LOW. STARTED THE CAR AND THE VEHICLE LOW LIGHT WAS ON AND AFTER THAT THE AIR SUSPENSION FAULT LIGHT CAME ON. THESE TWO LIGHTS KEPT FLASHING ONE AFTER THE OTHER. TOOK VEHICLE TO AN IMPORT REPAIR FACILITY..NO JAGUAR DEALERS NEAR. WAS QUOTED AIR SHOCK REPLACEMENT/ INSTALL FOR ABOUT 2500 DOLLARS. SO I ORDERED THE EXACT SAME PART ONLINE AND HAD THEM INSTALLED FOR HALF THAT AMOUNT. EXACTLY ONE MONTH LATER A FEW DAYS AGO..THE SAME LIGHTS ARE ON AGAIN AND THE FRONT END IS ONCE AGAIN TOO LOW TO DRIVE. NOT SURE WHAT TO DO NOW, NO JAGUAR DEALER NEAR AND CAN'T BELIEVE A LUXURY CAR APPARENTLY HAS AN INHERENT PROBLEM THAT JAGUAR HASN'T RECALLED. VERY FRUSTRATING NOT BEING ABLE TO DRIVE THIS BEAUTY..!!!! *TR

WHEN TURNING ON THE ENGINE A NOISE WAS HEAR BY MY SON. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT THE FLYWHEEL IS LOOSEN AND THAT'S WHY YOU HEAR THAT NOISE FROM THE LOW SIDE OF THE ENGINE. *TR
I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN AT 15 MPH WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FOR A FEW MOMENTS AND THEN SETTLED DOWN. I THEN TOOK 2 RIGHT TURNS AT 10 MPH AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO APPLY THE BRAKE IN A PARKING SPOT WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED RUNNING OVER A BUSH, 10 FT TREE, AND IN TO A DITCH ON EAST SIDE OF HIGHWAY 41 IN BONITA SPRINGS BEFORE I COULD GET THE CAR TO STOP. I THEN DROVE IN GINGERLY IN TO A PARKING SPOT AND LEFT IT UNTIL IT WAS TOWED TO NAPLES JAGUAR THE NEXT MORNING. MYSELF AND MY THREE PASSENGERS WERE TERRIFIED AND TORTURED BY THE TRAUMA. *TR
IT WAS RAINING HEAVILY AND WE WERE ON THE FREEWAY. SUDDENLY THE 2 WIPERS STARTED TO BEAT WILDLY AND THE LEFT WIPER JUMPED OFF THE WINDSHIELD. THE RIGHT ONE CONTINUED TO WIPE AT HIGH SPEED; THERE WAS NO WAY TO STOP WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AS THE TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY. SUDDENLY THE LEFT WIPER RESTARTED AND WENT UNDERNEATH THE RIGHT WIPER AND A FEW MINUTES AFTER THAT THE RIGHT WIPER STOPPED COMPLETELY. WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS OF THE CAR WHICH WAS BOUGHT AND ALWAYS SERVICED AT THE LOCAL JAGUAR DEALERSHIP. *TR

THE PARKING BRAKE WAS LOOSE AND HAD TO BE ENGAGED ABRUPTLY IN ORDER FOR THE BRAKE TO CATCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO ADJUSTED THE PARKING BRAKE BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE BRAKE CALIPER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 134,000.
I HAVE THIS BEAUTIFUL THAT I CAN'T DRIVE BECAUSE OF SUSPENSION PROBLEMS. VEHICLE TOO LOW AND SUSPENSION FAULT WARNINGS CAME ON. YOU'D THINK BY NOW THAT JAGUAR WOULD HAVE RECALLED THESE VEHICLES AND FIXED THE PROBLEM. I CANNOT BELIVE A CAR THAT COSTS THIS MUCH HAS SUCH PROBLEMS. MY GM TRUCK WITH OVER 300,000 MILES - I PURCHASED IT BRAND NEW - DOESN'T HAVE NEARLY THE AMOUNT OF ISSUES THIS JAG DOES. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED ON AN INCLINE WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE BEGAN ROLLING AWAY IN REVERSE AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THERE WAS A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL FOR THE PARKING BRAKE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,500. *TR
WELL I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND ALL OF A SUDDEN JUST LOST FUEL POWER, SO I PULL OVER, CUT THE CAR OFF, AND STARTED THE CAR UP AGAIN AND DROVE ABOUT A 100 YARDS AND IT REPEATED THE SAME THING OVER AGAIN. I MUST HAVE DID IT AT LEAST 6 TIMES TILL I GOT HOME. SO I'M THINKING THAT IT MIGHT BE THE THROTTLE BOX, IT'S A FUEL AND ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. *TR
VEHICLE LIGHT COMES ON INDICATING "LOW SUSPENSION". THE SITS NEARLY GROUND LEVEL, RIDES HORRIBLY. TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR. SPENT OVER $4,500.00 (6 DAYS WITHOUT MY CAR) FOR PARTS AND LABOR FOR REPAIRS AND THE LIGHT IS ON AGAIN. I AM AT LOSS AND FRUSTRATED TO NO END!!!!!! *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, A WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED STATING THAT THE AIR SUSPENSION WAS AT HALTS AND THE SUSPENSION LOWERED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. AFTER DIAGNOSIS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE AIR COMPRESSOR HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND WAS LOOKING INTO THE MATTER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 49,900.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JAGUAR X-TYPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH THERE WAS A POPPING SOUND IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE STEERING VEERED TO THE RIGHT WITH NO CONTROL. THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND A COMPLIANT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND STATED THE STEERING COLUMN HAD DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE STEERING COLUMN, POWER STEERING RACK AND ELECTRONIC CONTROLS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
TOOK VEHICLE OUT TO FUEL UP AND DROVE HIGHWAY TO OTHER LOCATIONS. NOTICED IT WAS SLIGHTLY LOWER ON THE RIGHT PRIOR TO TAKING IT OUT. VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE ON RIGHT SIDE LIKE TIRE WAS GETTING LOW. I HAD TIRE CHECKED FOR ANY LEAKS AND EVERYTHING WAS GOOD. ON MY WAY BACK HOME THINGS GOT WORSE AND HAD TO SLOW DOWN TO NEARLY A CRAWL. LIGHT INDICATOR STATED THAT CAR WAS TOO LOW (NEARLY DRAGGING THE GROUND) AND THE SUSPENSION FAULT INDICATOR CAME ON SHORTLY THEREAFTER. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT BACK TO MY GARAGE WITHOUT ANY DISASTROUS RESULTS TO MYSELF OR THE VEHICLE. I THINK IT IS INCREDIBLE THAT A $90,000 CAR OF THIS CALIBER , WITH ONLY 50,000 MILES ON IT HAS NO CREDIBLE VALUE TO IT AT ALL! THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THIS VEHICLE. THE REPAIR COST IS WELL INTO THE 3 TO 4 THOUSAND DOLLAR RANGE. I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE!!!!! *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE AIR SUSPENSION AND VEHICLE TOO LOW WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR AIR BAGS FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WAS 100,400.
AN INCIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE OCCURRED SOMETIME AROUND CHRISTMAS 2011. THE MOTOR SURGED WHILE I WAS FULLY STOPPED AT A STREET LIGHT. THE MOTOR WAS RUNNING, THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE GEAR, AND MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. I WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY BRING THE CAR UNDER CONTROL. A SECOND EVENT OCCURRED IN 2012, MAY 15TH, AT 11:00 P.M. WHILE I WAS FULLY STOPPED AT A DRIVE THROUGH WINDOW. AGAIN THE MOTOR SURGED, THIS TIME WITH A LOUD SCREECHING SOUND. I APPLIED MAXIMUM BRAKE PRESSURE BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO SURGE FORWARD, APPROXIMATELY SIX FEET. I SUSTAINED FULL FORCE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE, THREW THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL GEAR, AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION IN ORDER TO STOP THE CAR. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE IT HOME WHERE IT HAS REMAINED PARKED---EXCEPT FOR TWO EXCURSIONS TO THE SACRAMENTO JAGUAR DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT. *TR

ENTERING PARKING GARAGE, WARNING LIGHT APPEARS "VEHICLE TOO LOW" VEHICLE UNDERBODY SCRAPES ON GARAGE ENTRANCE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO MY INDEPENDENT JAGUAR DEALER. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN ONLY ABOUT 26,000 MILES. I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW FROM MANHATTAN JAGUAR DEALERSHIP IN BETHESDA MD. AND IS STILL UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. OVER THE LAST 7 YEARS THAT I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR I HAVE HAD 3 INCIDENTS OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THE FIRST HAPPENED ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO AS I CAME TO A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT. I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN. BUT THEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY MADE A ROARING SOUND AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. IT NEARLY RESULTED IN A MULTI CAR FATAL ACCIDENT FROM BEING HIT FROM BEHIND. THE DEALER STATED, AFTER A SYSTEMS CHECK, THAT AN ACCELERATOR PEDAL SENSOR HAD FAILED RESULTING IN A $500.00 REPLACEMENT COST. THE DEALER CHECKED FOR THE RECALL AND THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN WHERE THE CONSUMER ALMOST HIT A VEHICLE APPROACHING FROM HIS LEFT. APPEARS THAT THERE IS A SERIES PROBLEM WITH DRIVER'S SEATS ON THIS MODEL. JAGUAR HAS A HIDDEN WARRANTY ON THE FRONT SEAT OF SOME VINS IN THIS MODEL DUE TO NEED TO SHIM TRACKS. DEALER ADVISES THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS VIN FOR FRONT SEAT ISSUES. CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 47000 MILES ON ODOMETER AT TIME OF SEAT FRAME FAILURE. THE DEALER REPRESENTATIVE IS CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER OF FUZION TIRES TO CHECK FOR A DEVELOPING TREND. I MYSELF GOOGLED THE TIRE FOR OTHER REPORTED DEFECTS. I FOUND SEVERAL INCIDENTS OF UNEXPLAINED TIRE BLOWOUTS INVOLVING THE FUZION HRI THAT WERE REPORTED TO VARIOUS WEBSITES. THE FUZION TIRE IS NOT AMONG THE CHOICES ON YOUR WEBSITE DROP MENUS. *TR
