MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN RUNNING FINE, UNTIL MONDAY JUNE 27, 2016 IT STALLED AT A STOP LIGHT, A FEW MINUTES LATER IT CRANKED AND I WAS ON MY WAY. YESTERDAY JUNE 28, 2016 IT DID THE SAME THING. THEN TODAY JUNE 29,2016 IT STALLED AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON AND SAID SERVICE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION IN THESE VEHICLES. THIS JUST IS NOT RIGHT.
VEHICLE HAS STALLED TWICE AT A 30 MPH RATE OF SPEED DUE TO OIL LOW NOT EMPTY. IF VEHICLE SHOULD FALL BELOW 2 QUARTS OF OIL, VEHICLE MAY STALL AND STOP WORKING PROPERLY WHILE IN MOTION. MY VEHICLE HOLD 4-5 QUARTS OF OIL AND WAS NOT DUE FOR AN OILCHANGE AND STALLED TWICE WHILE ON RESIDENTIAL ROAD. DEALER STATED MY VEHICLE SHOULD REMIAN A FULL LEVEL OF OIL IN ORDER FOR IT TO NOT STALL!!! NO OIL LEAKS OR MECHANICAL ISSUES WERE FOUND DURING SERVICE.
WHILE DRIVING, TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY SHIFTS INTO NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE LOSES THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. ALL YOU CAN DO IS (HOPEFULLY) STEER IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT GETTING HIT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW - THE FIRST TIME IN NOVEMBER 2015, THE SECOND IN JUNE 2016. ON BOTH OCCASIONS I HAVE TAKEN IT TO OUR LOCAL JEEP DEALER FOR REPAIR. ALL THEY DO IS "UPDATE" THE SOFTWARE. THIS CLEARLY ISN'T WORKING. I CALLED THE "JEEP CARES" HOTLINE AND THEY REFUSE TO TALK ABOUT THE ISSUE, REFERRING ME BACK TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE LOCAL DEALER DOESN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO BESIDES UPDATE THE SOFTWARE. THIS IS REALLY DANGEROUS. HAD WE BEEN TRAVELLING ON A BUSY FREEWAY WITH MULTIPLE LANES WHEN THIS HAPPENED, IT WOULD LIKELY HAVE CAUSED A CRASH. YOU LOSE THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE! ALL YOU CAN DO IS STEER! BOTH TIMES THAT IT HAS HAPPENED WE HAVE BEEN DRIVING AROUND 60 MPH ON RURAL HIGHWAYS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED TO THE ON POSITION WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS ON AN INCLINE, IT WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WENT INTO NEUTRAL AND DRIFTED BACKWARDS. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND THE SPEED REDUCED. THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE FAILURES RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 22,000.
MY JEEP STALLS WHILE IT SHIFTS GEAR WHILE SLOWING DOWN. IF I ANTICIPATE THE STOP SIGN OR LIGHT, AND SLOW DOWN GRADUALLY LONG BEFORE I GET TO THE STOP SIGN OR LIGHT, IT PREVENTS STALLS IN MOST CASES. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS YOU CAN IMAGINE WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE AND BETWEEN LANES, PERHAPS. THE LAST TIME I WAS AT MY USUAL DEALERSHIP WAS DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT BEING ON AND AFTER A FEW DAYS, THAT ISSUE APPEAR TO BE CORRECTED, NOW THIS. IF I COULD I WOULD SIMPLY GET RID OF THIS VEHICLE.
ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO, AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK IN MY 14' JEEP CHEROKEE, THE CLUSTER READ BRAKE TO PARK WHEN I WAS DRIVING UP HILL AND THE SHIFTER WAS STILL IN DRIVE. WHEN THIS OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE BEGIN TO SLOW DOWN AND CAME TO DEAD STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY WHERE THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT ME FROM BEHIND. AT THIS POINT I PUT THE SHIFTER INTO PARK TURNED OFF THE JEEP, TURNED BACK ON THE JEEP AND DROVE IT. THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT WENT ON AND I DECIDED TO TAKE INTO THE DEALERSHIP AS THE JEEP IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP RETAINED THE JEEP FOR ABOUT A WEEK, THEY RAN UPDATES AND LOOKED AT THE JEEP. THEY DO NOT WHY IT OCCURRED OR IF THE UPDATES THEY DID RESOLVED THE SHIFTING ISSUE. AT THIS POINT, I REFUSED TO DRIVE THE JEEP HOME FOR THE CONCERN OF MY SAFETY THAT IT MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN.
THE TRANSMISSION RANDOMLY SLIPS. FROM A COMPLETE STOP, THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY, THE RPMS ARE AT 5000 AND THE CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE. SUDDENLY THERE IS A LOUD BANG AND THE TIRES WILL CHIRP AND THE CAR TAKES OFF. THE DEALER SCANS THE COMPUTERS AND FINDS NO ERROR CODES. HOW CAN THAT POSSIBLY BE WITH A VIOLENT OCCURRENCE LIKE THIS????? I THINK FCA HAS DOCTORED THE SOFTWARE SO THAT IT WON'T SHOW TRANSMISSION ERROR CODES. WITH ALL THE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS PROBLEM WHY AREN'T YOU INVESTIGATING THIS? DO PEOPLE HAVE TO START DYING BEFORE YOU GET OFF YOUR ASSES AND DO SOMETHING?
THE TRANSMISSION JUMPS WHEN SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO "DROPS" WHEN SHIFTING OUT OF PARK TO REVERSE.
NUMEROUS COMPUTER/ELECTRICAL INTERMITTENT ISSUES WITH VEHICLE. MOST RECENT EPISODE THE CARE WOULD COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. NO ENGINE, NO LIGHTING, AS IF IT WAS HIT WITH AN ELECTROMAGNETIC PULSE. THIS UNFORTUNATELY LOCKS THE STEERING AS WELL. THE KEY FOB IS NON RESPONSIVE. AFTER 5-7 MINUTES (IF YOU HAPPEN TO NOT GET HIT AND DIE), THE CAR COMES BACK TO LIFE (INTERIOR LIGHTS COME BACK AND AFTER ANOTHER MINUTE WILL START). ALSO HAVE HAD "SERVICE AIR BAG INDICATOR SYSTEM", "SERVICE PARKING BRAKE", "SERVICE TRANSMISSION", "4WD SYSTEM UNAVAILABLE", CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, BATTERY LIGHT, PARKING BRAKE AMBER SERVICE LIGHT, FLASHING ODOMETER, FLASHING D IN DASH. DASH COMPLETELY GOES BLANK INTERMITTENTLY AS WELL. TRANSMISSION HAS ALSO BEEN STUCK IN NEUTRAL NUMEROUS TIME (CAN NOT TURN CAR OFF UNLESS IN PARK, CANNOT SHIFT). NUMEROUS TRIPS TO DEALER FOR WARRANTY SERVICE. THIS LAST TIME THEY FOUND A GROUND CONNECTION LOOSE IN THE DRIVER SIDE KICK PANEL. SO IF THAT GROUND COMES LOOSE OR FRAYED, THE CAR CAN JUST KILL ME?
THE HEADLAMP AND HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER, AND THEY CONCLUDED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE MODULE AND IT WOULD COST OVER $1000 TO REPAIR. I OPTED TO JUST CHANGE THE HEADLIGHT WHICH COST ABOUT $130 JUST FOR THE BULB. A FEW MONTHS LATER THE OTHER HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. AGAIN I PAID ABOUT $130 JUST FOR ANOTHER BULB. A MONTH LATER THE OTHER HEADLIGHT WENT OUT AGAIN. IT WILL COST ABOUT $130 JUST FOR THE BULB. I HAVE BEEN TOLD WITH THE MOST RECENT CALL THAT THE BULBS MIGHT CONTINUE TO BREAK AS A SIDE EFFECT OF THE MODULE PROBLEM. THAT IS NOT KNOWN TO BE A FACT. EITHER WAY, I'M LOOKING AT EITHER $500+ JUST TO HAVE WORKING BULBS AT THIS POINT, OR OVER $1500 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE MODULE. NOBODY SHOULD HAVE TO SPEND THAT KIND OF MONEY SIMPLY TO HAVE WORKING HEADLIGHTS SO THAT THEY CAN LEGALLY DRIVE THE CAR THAT THEY PURCHASED! THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST BASIC ELEMENTS OF A CAR, AND I FEEL LIKE I AM BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF BY HAVING CONTINUOUS DEFECTIVE BULBS THAT COST $130. NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY HAS EVERY OCCURRED WITH THIS CAR THAT MIGHT HAVE CAUSED THE LIGHTS TO HAVE CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS. HOWEVER, IT IS WORTH NOTING THAT THE 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE SEEMS TO HAVE THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF PROBLEMS IN THE JEEP LINE. I'M VERY UNHAPPY ABOUT THIS AND HOPE THAT THERE WILL BE A SATISFYING RESOLUTION.
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP OR LOW SPEEDS, THE TRANSMISSION REGULARLY TAKES SEVERAL SECONDS TO SHIFT. ONCE IT DOES DECIDE TO SHIFT IT'S OFTEN ABRUPTLY, USUALLY CAUSING THE TIRES TO SPIN. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS THIS HAS BEEN WHEN TRYING TO ENTER TRAFFIC, POTENTIALLY LEAVING THE VEHICLE STRANDED WHILE ENTERING. DEALERSHIP'S SOLUTION IS A TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE UPDATE/RESET WHICH GENERALLY WORKS FOR A FEW THOUSAND MILES AND THEN THE ISSUE RETURNS.
POWER LIFT GATE WILL NOT OPERATE ALL THE TIME, SOMETIMES I HAVE TO MANUALLY LIFT UP THE LIFT GATE TO GET INTO THE INSIDE TRUNK AREA. RECALL R 27 HAS BEEN PERFORMED IN ALL 3 PARTS. CHECK THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS, INSTALL MODULE WATER SHIELD,AND REPLACE MODULE CONNECTORS AND INSTALL MODULE. I HAVE BEEN BACK TO SELLING DEALER FOR THIS ISSUE MANY TIMES FOR THE INOPERATIVE HATCH ISSUE CUSTOMER CAIRS HAVE BEEN OPENED ON THIS ISSUE WITH NO SUCCESS. DEALER AND CHRYSLER ADVISE ME WHEN IT HAPPENS BRING IN THE VEHICLE SO WE CAN SEE THE PROBLEM. I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE POTENTIAL ELECTRICAL FIRE POTENTIAL DUE TO THIS SYSTEM NOT OPERATING AS DESIGNED. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER ABOUT THIS SINCE DEC OF 2013 1 MONTH AFTER PURCHASE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE DEALER CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE COMPLAINT AT THEIR SHOP NOTHING IS WRITTEN UP BECAUSE NO PROBLEM FOUND. THE MOST RECENT TRIP TO THE DEALER WAS JUNE 13 2016. THIS ISSUE ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK ENGINE RUNNING OR ENGINE OFF BUTTON ON DASH WILL NOT ACTIVATE LIFT GATE EITHER KEY FOB WILL NOT ACTIVATE LIFT GATE AND WHEN I GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE TO ATTEMPT TO OPEN LIFT GATE WITH LIFT GATE BUTTON THIS WILL NOT WORK EITHER. I HAVE TO MANUALLY OPEN THE LIFT GATE BY OPENING THE HATCH AND RAISING THE LIFT GATE AS IF THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EQUIPPED WITH THE POWER LIFT GATE ACCESSORY. PLEASE HELP RESOLVE THIS LONG STANDING ISSUE, I RETIRED FROM CHRYSLER AFTER 41 YEARS OF SERVICE IN WARRANTY, CUSTOMER SERVICE AND TECH. I AM NOT MAKING UP THIS ISSUE. SINCE THE RECALL REPAIR DATE OF 4-15-2016 THE TRANS WILL SHIFT HARD FROM STOP LIGHTS ALSO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED AND THE VALVE BODY AND BODY CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE ADDITIONAL TIMES. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V529000 (POWER TRAIN). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE BROKE DOWN ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS.. WHEN THE CONSUMER TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS CAME ON AND THE ENGINE TRIED TO TURN OVER, BUT FAILED. ALL POWER TO THE VEHICLE WAS WORKING INSIDE; RADIO, DASH, TOUCH SCREEN AND LIGHTS WERE ON. THE CONSUMER TRIED TO RESTART IT AGAIN, BUT THE ENGINE DID NOT EVEN TURN OVER, BUT ALL THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS CONTINUED TO WORK. THE CONSUMER CALLED A TOW TRUCK, AND WHEN HE JUMP STARTED IT, THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD NOISE WHEN DROPPING INTO GEAR AND JERKED UPON ACCELERATION. WHEN THE VEHICLE BROKE DOWN THE FOURTH TIME, IT DROPPED OUT OF GEAR WITH A JERKING MOTION. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE MERGING INTO THE TRAFFIC. ONCE THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION DROPPED OUT OF GEAR, THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO FISH TAIL ACROSS THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC. 06/08/16 I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK WHEN 2 HOUSES DOWN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY WOULDN'T GO AND SHUT DOWN AND SAID "SERVICE TRANSMISSION" "SERVICE PARK BRAKE" "PULL CAR OVER AND PUT IN P THEN DESIRED GEAR." THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ALSO CAME ON AND WOULD NOT GO AWAY. I RESTARTED THE CAR MULTIPLE TIMES AND WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET IT MOVED OFF THE ROAD. THE STEERING WAS DIFFICULT AND WHEN I PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE IT MADE A LOUD NOISE AND WOULD'T MOVE. I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL THE VEHICLE MOVED IN REVERSE RATHER THAN FORWARD. I PUT IT IN PARK AGAIN AND RESTARTED UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GET IT BACK INTO MY DRIVEWAY. THE MESSAGES ABOUT THE PARKING BRAKE AND TRANSMISSION HAD WENT AWAY BUT CHECK ENGINE AND TRACTION CONTROL WOULD NOT GO OFF. AFTER GETTING IT BACK HOME I CALLED CHRYSLER TO HAVE THEM SEND A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AS THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD TO BE ON THE ROAD. UPON ARRIVING TO THE DEALERSHIP, I ASKED FOR A LOANER VEHICLE. AFTER AN HOUR WAIT I WAS INFORMED THAT NO LOANERS WERE AVAILABLE AND HAD TO RENT A VEHICLE FROM ENTERPRISE (PAID $50 OUT OF POCKET FOR DEPOSIT), BECAUSE THEY WANTED A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST LOOK AT IT AND HIS SCHEDULE WAS BOOKED. BEFORE LEAVING, I WAS SHOWN 12 CODES THAT HAD POPPED UP. THE FOLLOWING DAY 06/09/16, I CALLED CHRYSLER'S CORPORATE OFFICE TO SEE WHAT OPTIONS COULD BE DONE TO MAKE THIS RIGHT AS THIS IS THE 4TH TIME TOTAL AND 3RD IN A 30 DAY WINDOW WITH TRANSMISSION ISSUES. THEY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WERE INFORMED THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAS TRIED TO FIX THE ISSUE BUT CANNOT FIND A SOLUTION TO FIX THE ISSUES I AM HAVING. CORPORATE RESPONDED WITH SAYING THAT I WOULD BE GIVEN A CASE MANAGER TO HANDLE MY ISSUES AND THEY WOULD CONTACT ME IN THE NEXT 48 HOURS.
WE PURCHASED OUR 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE IN DECEMBER 2014 (NEW). WE NOTICED IMMEDIATELY THE TRANSMISSION WAS JERKING, AND WHEN COMING TO A STOP THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE FORWARD. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE VEHICLE HAD TO GET USE TO OUR DRIVING. WE CONTINUED TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER FOUR TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND BEING TOLD THEY COULD NOT RE-CREATE THE PROBLEM THE SERVICE TECH WAS ABLE TO RE-CREATE, HOWEVER WE WERE TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THE DEALERSHIP COULD DO, AND WE WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT BROKE DOWN. IN APRIL 2016, THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. IMMEDIATELY, WE BEGIN HAVING THE SAME JERKING, LURCHING AND SURGING. NOW WE HAVE BEEN TOLD, WE NEED TO HAVE ANOTHER TRANSMISSION PUT IN THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 23,500 MILES ON IT, AND THIS IS THE SECOND TRANSMISSION. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH JEEP, AND GONE THROUGH ARBITRATION, HOWEVER JEEP DOESN'T FEEL THE NEED TO STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT. THIS IS THE ELEVENTH CHRYSLER/JEEP/DODGE PRODUCT WE HAVE PURCHASED, AND IT WILL BE THE LAST.
06/05/16 I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND WHEN IT TURNED GREEN I BEGAN TO GO ON THE RAMP FOR THE HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY IT WOULDN'T GO AND SHUT DOWN AND SAID "SERVICE TRANSMISSION" "SERVICE PARK BRAKE" "PULL CAR OVER AND PUT IN P THEN DESIRED GEAR." THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ALSO CAME ON AND WOULD NOT GO AWAY. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE AND WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RAMP NOT ABLE TO MOVE MY VEHICLE. I RESTARTED THE CAR MULTIPLE TIMES AND WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET IT MOVED OFF THE ROAD. THE STEERING WAS DIFFICULT AND WHEN I PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE IT MADE A LOUD NOISE AND WOULD'T MOVE. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AGAIN AND RESTARTED UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GET IT OFF THE ROAD. THE MESSAGES ABOUT THE PARKING BRAKE AND TRANSMISSION HAD WENT AWAY BUT CHECK ENGINE AND TRACTION CONTROL WOULD NOT GO OFF. IT WAS A LATE SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND THE DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSED SO I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT DAY TO BRING IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP. I TOOK IT FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING (06/06/16) AND SAT THERE WAITING FOR 4 HOURS UNTIL THE SERVICE ADVISOR CAME AND TOLD ME MY JEEP NEEDED SOME UPDATES AND THE LEVER ON THE TRANSMISSION WAS LOOSE AND THEY HAD TO TIGHTEN IT WAS FIXED AND EVERYTHING WAS GOOD TO GO. DROVE THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT HOME NO ISSUES AND MY HUSBAND DROVE IT TO WORK THE FOLLOWING DAY WITH NO ISSUES REPORTED. DAY 2 AFTER REPAIRS THE SAME ISSUES CAME BACK.

THE CAR CONSISTENTLY DOWNSHIFTS AND UPSHIFTS VIOLENTLY, ESPECIALLY WHEN LETTING OFF THE GAS. HAS ALSO STALLED A HANDFUL OF TIMES WHILE CRUISING AT SPEEDS <20MPH.

CONTACTED A WRECKER SERVICE AND HAVING TO WAIT 1 1/2HRS ON THE SIDE OF A BUSY INTERSTATE, OUR VEHICLE WAS LIFTED AND TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP / THE WRECKER DRIVER WASN'T ABLE TO GET VEHICLE STARTED OR OUT OF GEAR UNTIL HE ACCESSED HELP VIA HIS PHONE, WHICH ALLOWED HIM TO MOVE GEAR BUT STILL DIDN'T CRANK / NEXT DAY, A REP FROM THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND SAID THE VEHICLE STARTED UP AND THE ISSUE MENTIONED ABOVE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED??? A STRANGE REPORT WAS GIVEN THAT THERE SEEM TO BE GREASE FROM AN UNKNOWN SOURCE THAT WAS SEEN UNDER THE VEHICLE AND PERHAPS THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM??? WE PICKED THE VEHICLE UP AND MADE IT HOME (70 MI) / THIS IS EXTREMELY WORRISOME, NOT TO MENTION, OF COURSE IT COULD BE DEADLY! PLEASE HELP.

FROM THE DAY I PURCHASED MY 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE, IT HAS BEEN SHIFTING ROUGHLY. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY AND SAID SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DID A "RELEARN," WHATEVER THAT MEANS. IT DID NOTHING. THEY SAID I HAD TO DRIVE IT A WHILE SO THAT IT WOULD LEARN MY DRIVING BEHAVIOR. IT DIDN'T SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE AND SAID TO DRIVE IT 500 MILES BEFORE THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION WOULD SETTLE DOWN. AGAIN, NO CHANGE AND I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP SAID NOTHING COULD BE DONE BUT I SHOULD DRIVE IT NOW 10,000 MILES. AFTER 10,000 MILES I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THAT IS THE WAY IT IS SUPPOSED TO RUN. I'VE DRIVEN MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF VEHICLES OVER MY LIFE, FROM DUMP TRUCKS TO CADILLACS AND I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED A TRANSMISSION SHIFTING SO ROUGHLY OR JERKING SO BAD IN ANY OF THEM LIKE IT DOES IN THE 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE. ON SUNDAY ON MAY 22, 2016, I DROVE MY 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE ON INTERSTATE 275 FROM THE MONTGOMERY ROAD EXIT TO THE FIVE-MILE ROAD EXIT. I WAS ALONE IN THE VEHICLE. I USED THE CRUISE CONTROL DURING THIS TRAVEL. I ORIGINALLY SET THE SPEED FOR 70 MILES PER HOUR. AT ONE POINT, I HAD TO SLOW DOWN BECAUSE A CAR PULLED INTO THE LANE IN FRONT OF ME AND THE STEP DOWN OF FEATURE OF THE SPEED CONTROL WORKED AS EXPECTED. WHEN I EXITED FROM I-275 TO FIVE-MILE, I APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT WAS UNABLE TO SLOW MY CAR. THERE IT STOPPED. I DO NOT REMEMBER PUSHING THE BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO CANCEL THE CRUISE CONTROL . THE CAR DID NOT IMPACT OR TOUCH ANY OTHER VEHICLE OR PEDESTRIAN OR OTHER PROPERTY. IT CAME TO A STOP ON THE ONRAMP. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT THEN CAUSING THE CAR TO ACCELERATE AND THE BRAKES WORKED. I DROVE MY CAR VERY SLOWLY AND PARKED IT IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE SHOPPING CENTER AT THE INTERSECTION OF FIVE-MILE AND BEECHMONT AVENUE. 05/14/16 I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND WHEN IT TURNED GREEN I BEGAN TO GO AND SUDDENLY IT WOULDN'T GO AND SHUT DOWN AND SAID "SERVICE TRANSMISSION" "SERVICE PARK BRAKE" "PULL CAR OVER AND PUT IN P THEN DESIRED GEAR." THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ALSO CAME ON AND WOULD NOT GO AWAY. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE AND WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION NOT ABLE TO MOVE MY VEHICLE. I RESTARTED THE CAR MULTIPLE TIMES AND WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET IT MOVED OFF THE ROAD. THE MESSAGES ABOUT THE PARKING BRAKE AND TRANSMISSION HAD WENT AWAY BUT CHECK ENGINE AND TRACTION CONTROL WOULD NOT GO OFF. IT WAS A LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAD HAPPEN. I WAS TOLD THEY WERE ABOUT TO CLOSE AND I COULD BRING IT IN MONDAY. I TOOK IT FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING (05/16/16) AND SAT THERE WAITING FOR 4 HOURS UNTIL THE SERVICE ADVISOR CAME AND TOLD ME MY JEEP NEEDED SOME UPDATES AND IT WAS FINE. I ASKED TO SPEAK TO THE MECHANIC AND I WASN'T ALLOWED TO AND I HAVE TO ARGUE WITH HER TO TELL ME WHAT THE UPDATES WERE. I WAS ASSURED THE ISSUE HAD BEEN FIXED WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND PARKING BRAKE WITH THE UPDATES....ONLY TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE 2-3 WEEKS LATER.
I PURCHASED A BUYBACK VEHICLE WITH 2257 MILES ON IT IN NOVEMBER OF 2014. AT THE TIME, IT WAS DISCLOSED TO ME THE REASON FOR THE PREVIOUS OWNERS RETURN OF THE VEHICLE WAS A FUSE (ALTHOUGH THE PAPERWORK INDICATES A WIRING REPLACEMENT). I'VE SINCE HAD SEVERAL REPAIRS ON THIS VEHICLE INCLUDING A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT, COOLING SYSTEM, SEVERAL MODULE UPDATES, SOFTWARE UPDATES, AND WIPER MOTOR REPLACEMENT. THE ISSUES CONTINUE, AND THIS VEHICLE CANNOT SEEM TO BE FIXED. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS: THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WHEN IN A STOPPED POSITION GOING FROM PARK TO DRIVE, THE CAR MAKES A LOUD BOOM, OR BANGING SOUND ALMOST LIKE SOMETHING FELL OFF OR OUT OF THE CAR. IT'S A RECOGNIZABLE SOUND THAT IS UNMISTAKABLE. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE HAS A HARD TIME ACCELERATING, AND STRAINS, MAKING ANOTHER, YET DIFFERENT LOUD NOISE. IT ALSO IS UNABLE TO SLOW DOWN PROPERLY, AS THE RPM GAUGE FLUCTUATES. THERE SEEMS TO BE SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT HAS ALREADY HAD ITS TRANSMISSION REPLACED TWICE. IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS VEHICLE CANNOT BE FIXED. I HAVE SINCE HAD SEVERAL MODULE AND SOFTWARE UPDATES IN ADDITION TO THE COMPLETE TRANSMISSION BEING REPLACED, THE ISSUES STILL CONTINUE.

MULTIPLE VEHICLE WARNING SYSTEMS STARTED SOUNDING INCLUDE "CHECK TRANSMISSION", "PUT VEHICLE IN PARK, THEN SELECT GEAR", ACCOMPANIED BY WARNING CHIMES, THE ENGINE LIGHT, ETC. IT OCCURRED DURING RUSH-HOUR TRAFFIC IN WASHINGTON, DC IN 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC - THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION DIED. THE SAME THING HAPPENED JUST OVER A MONTH AGO; THE DEALER CLAIMED THEY DID A SOFTWARE FIX PREVIOUSLY.

THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN 3 DAYS,ALL THREE TIME MY SAFETY WAS AT RISK AS YOU ARE UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL IT COASTS TO A FULL STOP TO SHIFT TO PARK AND THEN SEVERAL TRIES TO RESTART VEHICLE, ONCE STARTED CAR STILL WILL NOT MOVE WHEN PRESSING GAS PEDAL FOR FEW MOMENTS ALTHOUGH RPMS ARE AT 5 OR 6 LIKE ITS NOT IN GEAR. IN ALL INSTANCES I WAS IN TRAFFIC AND ALMOST REAR ENDED BY OTHER VEHICLES. THERE IS NO WARNING LIGHTS OR SOUNDS THAT MAKE YOU AWARE THAT AN ISSUE IS HAPPENING SO YOU CAN PULL TO SAFETY.JEEP IS IN DEALERSHIP NOW BUT AM AFRAID THEY WILL TELL ME THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, REFLASH THE MODULE AND SEND ME ON THE WAY. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND COMMON REPAIR SCENARIO AT DEALERSHIP BUT DOES NOT FIX ISSUE. I AM AFRAID I WILL BE REAR ENDED BY A FAST MOVING VEHICLE AS THIS HAS HAPPENED 2 TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY AND ONCE IN MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION. DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED PARTS AND TO KEEP CHECKING IN, WHICH I'VE PERSISTENTLY BEEN DOING FOR EIGHT MONTHS TO THE POINT OF FRUSTRATION. IT HAS BEEN ALMOST A YEAR SINCE THE LAST TWO RECALLS WERE STATED.IN THE MEANTIME MY DEFECTIVE PARTS CONTINUE TO MALFUNCTION IF USED. AN EFFICIENT AND TIMELY MANNER TO GET THE RECALLS DONE HAS NOT BEEN CONDUCTED BY JEEP AND BY FCA US LLC.
ON MAY 5, 2016, I WAS DRIVING ON A WELL TRAVELED STREET IN MY 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE LATITUDE. I HAD JUST MADE A RIGHT TURN AND WAS DRIVING AT A SLOW PACE IN ORDER TO MERGE INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC. I PRESSED ON THE GAS AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I LOOKED AT THE DASH AND REALIZED THAT THE CAR HAD SHUT DOWN. I HAD NO ENGINE POWER, NO ELECTRICAL, NOTHING. I MANAGED TO COAST TO THE RIGHT LANE, AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE CAR; NOTHING HAPPENED. AFTER SITTING FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES, THE CAR FINALLY STARTED. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. THE CAR WAS KEPT FOR A WEEK, AND I WAS TOLD THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE CONCERN. I PICKED THE CAR UP AND TWO WEEKS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE CAME ON AGAIN. ONCE AGAIN, I IMMEDIATELY DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER TWO DAYS, I WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (CAR IS CURRENTLY IN SHOP AWAITING THIS REPAIR). PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, THIS CAR HAD BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AT LEAST TWO TIMES FOR WHAT SEEMED TO BE TRANSMISSION RELATED ISSUES; SLAMMING INTO GEAR AND LURCHING FORWARD. EACH TIME I WAS TOLD THE ISSUE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED.
AFTER ONLY 21000 MILES AND REGULAR MAINTENANCE AT THE DEALERSHIP, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE DEALER WOULD NOT BOOK ME A SERVICE APPOINTMENT ANY SOONER THAN ONE WEEK OUT. TWO DAYS AFTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, AS I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET TO WORK, A "SERVICE TRANSMISSION" WARNING APPEARED AND THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY BECAME UNRESPONSIVE. EVEN SWITCHING TO TIPTRONIC AND NO MATTER HOW MUCH THE GAS PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, I WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE NOR HAVE THE ENGINE RPM MOVE BEYOND 1000 RPM. I WAS LUCKY THAT I CHOSE NOT TO TAKE THE HIGHWAY TO WORK OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED WITH THE CAR SLOWING DOWN SO MUCH.
THE CAR LURCHES AND SHIFTS INDISCRIMINATELY WHILE STARTING AND STOPPING. THIS OCCURS WHILE DRIVING AT LOWER SPEEDS. ONCE ON THE "OPEN ROAD" IT SEEMS TO BE OK.
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
THIS ZF 9 SPD TRANSMISSION IS THE WORST THING INVENTED. IT SHIFTS ERACTIC, ROUGH, CLUNKY, AND SLIPS. TOLD DEALER ABOUT IT, HAD IT IN FOR SOFTWARE UPDATE, STILL DOING THE SAME. I WILL TRADE IT AWAY AS SOON AS I CAN.
TRANSMISSION DISENGAGES WHILE DRIVING. DISPLAY ON DASHBOARD SAY PUT CAR IN "P" AND RESTART VEHICLE. AFTER DOING WHAT THE DISPLAY STATES, IT GOES INTO DRIVE FORCEFULLY AND MAKES A LOAD BANG. THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON ALONG THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT. AFTER LETTING THE VEHICLE SIT OVER NIGHT AND DOESN'T OCCUR AGAIN FOR ABOUT ANOTHER 10-15 K MILES LATER. THIS ISSUE CREATED AN UNSAFE CONDITION. ALL THE TIMES THIS OCCURRED I ALMOST WAS REAR ENDED, COULDN'T MAKE TURN TO A SAFE PULL OFF AREA AND HAPPENED ON A ON-RAMP ENTERING A HIGHWAY.
CAR LOST POWER IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY. THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND TO STEPPING ON THE GAS. HAD TO STOP THE CAR IN THE SHOULDER OF A RAMP AND WAIT FOR TOW TRUCK. WHEN CHANGING FROM PARK TO DRIVE GEARS, THE CAR MADE A CLICKING NOISE, BUT DID NOT RESPOND. THIS IS ACTUALLY THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENS - FIRST TIME THE OFFICIAL JEEP SERVICE SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND THE ISSUE AND FELT CONFIDENT IN RELEASING THE CAR.
TAKATA RECALL WHILE IN MOTION THE JEEP MAKES A STRONG JERK WHEN ACCELERATING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. IT IS VERY ROUGH TO DRIVE.
I KEEP HAVING HARD SHIFTS THAT JOLTS MY CAR FORWARD WHILE BRAKING AND ACCELERATING. WHEN IT DOES THIS IT MAKE A LOUD NOISE AND PUSHES THE CAR FORWARD A LITTLE. I HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM FOR OVER A YEAR EVEN AFTER I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER FOR RECALLS ON THE TRANSMISSION.
I DIDN'T KNOW JUST HOW QUIRKILY SENSITIVE THIS VEHICLE WOULD BECOME TO STARTING OFF; ESPECIALLY AFTER FCA STARTED RECALLS FOR TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE UPDATES. THIS (R01) WAS COMPLETED ON THE VEHICLE, (MARCH 2015 AT 17,399 MILES). UNTIL I GOT RID OF THE VEHICLE IN MAY 2016 IT BECAME A CRAP-SHOOT AS TO HOW THE VEHICLE WOULD RESPOND TO ACCELERATION FROM EITHER A FULL OR ROLLING STOP. IN MAY 2015 (20,362 MILES), I HAD MY FIRST TRANSMISSION FAILURE AFTER MAKING A TURN FROM A FULL STOP. THERE WERE SERVICE TRANSMISSION AND PARKING BRAKE WARNINGS. I STOPPING,PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND ENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION AND DRIVE TO DEALERSHIP. DIAGNOSES FOUND MULTIPLE STORED CODES RELATED TO THE TRANS FLASH RECALL. IN AUGUST 2015, (23,861 MILES) THERE WAS THE 2ND INCIDENT WHEN THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED INTO 2ND GEAR WHILE GOING DOWN A WINDING ROAD AND REMAINED SO UNTIL WE WERE ON FLATTER GROUND. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE. 25 DAYS LATER (AUG 31, 2015 AND 24,174 MILES) THE VEHICLE WAS BACK IN THE SHOP WHEN THE 'SERVICE SHIFTER AND TRANSMISSION' INDICATORS CAME ON. DIAGNOSES FOUND DTCS P0978 AND U0402, WHATEVER THAT MEANS. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FCA JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE (CASE #27729231) ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2015. THEY OFFERED NO SOLUTION OR RESOLUTION. IN MAY 2016, (34,833 MILES) WHILE DRIVING UP A WINDING HILL AT ABOUT 40 MPH THE VEHICLE WENT INTO NEUTRAL AND WOULD NOT ENGAGE ANY GEAR OTHER THAN PARK. I PROCEEDED TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURN-OFF THE IGNITION, RESTART THE VEHICLE, AND ENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION WHICH NEVER GOT OUT OF 3RD GEAR ON THE DRIVE TO A JEEP DEALER. THEY REFER TO THIS AS 'LIMP' MODE, WHICH TELLS ME A LOT ABOUT WHAT FCA KNEW OF THEIR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THEY FOUND AND REPLACED A FAULTY TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY WHICH FACILITATES ELECTRONIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTING FROM ONE GEAR TO ANOTHER.
