I HAD A FLAT TIRE. AFTER MOUNTING THE SPARE TIRE AND TORQUEING THE LUG BOLTS, (YES THEY ARE BOLTS NOT NUTS) I FOUND THAT THE WHEEL WAS STILL LOOSE. I DETERMINED THAT THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE LUG BOLTS BEING TOO LONG FOR THE STEEL SPARE WHEEL WHICH IS NOT THE SAME THICKNESS AS THE ALUMINUM FACTORY WHEELS
AS OF LATELY, THE SPEEDOMETER TOOGLES UP & DOWN THROUGH A SET OF NUMBERS EVEN AFTER ATTEMPTS ARE MADE TO REDUCE SPEED ESPECIALLY WHEN ON CRUISE CONTROL. DURING CRUISE CONTROL VEHICLE ACCELERATES BEYOND SET LIMIT & REQUIRES EXTREME FORCE TO DECELERATE. IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY AS DOES MANY DANGEROUS ISSUES MAINLY AFTER A SOFTWARE UPDATE TAKES PLACE WITH THE VEHICLE. IF THE UPDATES DON'T CAUSE ACCELERATION CONCERNS IT CAUSES VEHICLE TO SHUT OFF IN TRAFFIC & OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS A FEW HIGH RISKS FOR MAJOR TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS WERE ONLY AVOIDED BY THE SWIFT MANEUVERING OF OTHER VEHICLES OR MYSELF WHEN POSSIBLE TO AVOID COLLISION. NEVER BEFORE EXPERIENCED SO MANY MALFUNCTIONS OF MECHANICAL/TECHNOLOGICAL PROBLEMS FROM A VEHICLE. AS FOR IF THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, IN MOTION, ON A CITY STREET OR A HIGHWAY, TURNING, BRAKING ETC WHEN THESE ISSUES OCCURED THE ANSWER WOULD BE MY JEEP HAS STALLED, LOSS SPEED, SHUT OFF AND/OR SPEED UP UNDER ALL THESE CONDITIONS. DEALERSHIP HAS ME BRING IT IN AND THEY FLASH THE SYSTEM TO "CORRECT" THE PROBLEM. THAT IS UNTIL THE NEXT UPDATE OR SOME SOFTWARE MALFUNCTION CAUSES UNEXPECTED SCARY INCIDENT TO ARISE LIKE NOW WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL THAT NEEDS ADDRESSING.
MY JEEP HAS BEEN HAVING A DISTURBING PROBLEM WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL FOR MONTHS. PERIODICALLY, CRUISE CONTROL ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN WAY ABOVE WHAT IT'S SET AT (E.G. IT'S SET AT 75 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY IT ACCELERATES TO 95 MPH). I HAVE TO SLAM THE BRAKES UNTIL IT DECELERATES AND RESET THE CRUISE CONTROL. WHEN I WAS SETTING UP MY ROUTINE OIL CHANGE APPOINTMENT ON THE LITHIA APP, I NOTICED A RECALL THAT WAS EXACTLY FOR THE PROBLEM I WAS HAVING. BUT MY JEEP WAS NOT INCLUDED ON THE RECALL. I CALLED 1-800-853-1403 ON 7/24/18 AND WAS TOLD MY JEEP WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST BUT TO ASK FOR DIAGNOSTICS TEST FOR U63. AT MY APPOINTMENT, 8/10/18, AT LITHIA SANTA FE, THE DIAGNOSTICS DIDN'T SHOW ANYTHING. I HAD TO PAY $157 FOR THE TEST! I CALLED THE 800 NUMBER AGAIN AND TOLD THEM I WANT TO GO ON RECORD THAT I REPORTED THE PROBLEM AND TRIED TO HAVE IT ADDRESSED IN CASE I HAVE AN ACCIDENT RELATED TO IT. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THEY 'CLEARED THE MODULE' AND THAT MIGHT TAKE CARE OF IT. I DON'T THINK I SHOULD HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSTICS AND I THINK THIS SHOULD BE REMEDIED UNDER THE RECALL. *BF *TR
THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, OUT OF NO WHERE. MY SUNROOF WAS NOT BUSTED MY AN EXTERNAL FORCE. MY SUNROOF HAS VERY THINK GLASS. THE WHOLE IN THE GLASS IN DEAD SET IN THE MIDDLE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL OTHER BUYERS. IT WAS 88 DEGREES OUT THAT DAY. I HAVE DRIVEN MY CAR IN HOTTER CONDITIONS.
ON JULY 18, 2018 I WENT OUTSIDE TO GET AN ITEM OUT OF BACK OF MY VEHICLE WHICH WAS STATIONARY AND I COULDN'T GET LIFTGATE TO LIFT AND I NOTICED THERE WAS SMOKE IN MY CAR, I OPENED THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AND SMOKE BILLOWED OUT. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, I GOT IN THE VEHICLE AND MOVED IT BACK AWAY FROM MY HOUSE AND NOTICED I HAD NO A/C, RADIO OR ANYTHING WORKING ON DASHBOARD. I LOOKED IN BACK OF VEHICLE AND IT WAS BURNT IN THE BACK LEFT CORNER OF LIFT GATE. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEY HAD IT TOWED TO MIKE SMITH AUTO GROUP IN BEAUMONT. THE SMELL IN THE VEHICLE WAS AWFUL, A COMBINATION OF BURNT RUBBER AND PLASTIC. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE FOR BACK LEFT LIFTGATE IN 2015 OF WHICH I TOOK IT IN AND SUPPOSEDLY IT WAS REPAIRED. I ALSO IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP OF WHICH THEY WERE NO HELP AT ALL AND VERY UNCONCERNED. I TALKED TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEY SAID IF IT WAS DUE TO A RECALL I SHOULD CALL CHRYSLER CORPORATION OF WHICH I DID DAILY WITH NO RESULTS. THEY WOULD NOT LET ME TALK TO ANYONE, THEY FINALLY SENT AN INSPECTOR OF WHICH HE JUST LOOKED AT THE INSIDE OF CAR, DID NOT TAKE THE PANELS OFF OR ANYTHING AND SENT TO THE CORPORATION AND THEY SENT ME A LETTER STATING IT WAS NOT DUE TO RECALL. MY INSURANCE COMPANY SENT AN ENGINEER WHO TOOK THE PANEL OFF AND SEARCHED IT THOROUGHLY AND DETERMINED IT WAS DUE TO THE RECALL. I CANNOT GET ANY HELP ON THIS WHICH IS NOT MY FAULT. *BF *TR *TT*JB
MY JEEP HAS BEEN AND LOOKED AT FOR SHAKING IN THE FRONT END WHEN GETTING TO A CERTAIN SPEED. I HAVE FOUND OUT AFTER GOING TO GET A WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND BEING TOLD IT MAY BE MY TIRES AND HAVING THEM CHANGED AND THEN TOLD IT MAY BE THE BALANCE OF THE TIRES AND HAVING THAT CHECKED THE ISSUE IS STILL PRESENT. AFTER LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE MORE AND TALKING TO OTHER JEEP OWNERS ABOUT THIS THEY SAID IT IS WHAT IS CALLED THE JEEP SHAKES. AND ACCORDING TO LOOKING THIS ISSUE UP THIS IS PRESENT ON MANY JEEP YEARS AND FOR ME AS A CAR OWNER THERE IS NO RECALL TO FIX THIS ISSUE. THE COST OF FIXING THIS ISSUE CAN RANGE FROM $900 TO 1500 DOLLARS DEPENDING ON WHERE IT IS TAKEN. THE JEEP WHEN DRIVING AND REACHING 55 PLUS MPH AND IT STARTS TO SHAKE AND IF ABLE TO GET TO 65 MPH THE SHAKING CEASES.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HILL AT ABOUT 20 MPH WHEN MY VEHICLE STARTED STUTTERING AND THEN SHUT OFF. THE CAR PULLED UP A MESSAGE ON THE DASH THAT SAID, ' VEHICLE MUST BE IN PARK TO START THE VEHICLE'. THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING. I PLACED THE CAR IN PARK AND THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED 2 MORE TIMES SINCE THEN. CAR IS SCHEDULED TO BE SERVICED.
CAR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING.
SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS (6-8 TIMES), WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR SHUTS OFF. THE ENGINE COMPLETELY STOPS REGARDLESS OF IN MOTION OR ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. IT HAS HAPPENED EACH WAY. IT SHUTS OFF, AND THE VEHICLE COMPUTER PROVIDES A MESSAGE THAT YOU MUST BE IN PARK TO START THE VEHICLE. I SHIFT TO PARK AND IT STARTS UP AGAIN. WHEN IT SHUTS OFF THE POWER STEERING GOES AND YOU CANNOT CONTROL THE DIRECTION OF THE VEHICLE. THERE ARE NO SYMPTOMS AND NO WARNING BUT I SEE ENOUGH OF THE SAME COMPLAINT THAT I AM REPORTING IT. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEED YET, AND I AM AFRAID IT MIGHT BASED ON THE OTHER JEEP OWNERS COMMENTS.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE LATITUDE 2.4L ON A CITY HIGHWAY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE SERVICE TRANSMISSION LIGHT POPPED ON AND I COULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE PAST 45MPH. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO REACT QUICKLY WITH THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND MAKE MY WAY OVER TO THE SHOULDER. THE ENGINE LIGHT IS NOW ON AND IT IS TRIGGERING CODE P0887. I KNOW NOW THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THE 9 GEAR TRANSMISSION IN PREVIOUS YEAR MODELS AS WELL THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING AND I AM AFRAID OF DRIVING MY VEHICLE ANYWHERE THAT HAS A SPEED LIMIT ABOVE 35!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE BATTERY WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER, SHIFTED INTO PARK, AND THE BATTERY WARNING INDICATOR TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT WAITED APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. AS THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 34697040. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, MY JEEP COMPLETELY SHUT OFF ON ME AND WE HAD TO START IT BACK UP AND IT STARTED BACK UP. HOWEVER THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES BEFORE AND THINK THEY SHOULD RECALL THIS CONSIDERING HOW MANY OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS I AM SEEING ON THIS. I HAVE 2 KIDS IN MY CAR AT ALL TIMES AND FEAR IT DOING THIS WHILE DRIVING AS WELL. I TOOK IT TO JEEP AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT BUT NOW IT JUST FEELS HESITANT WHILE DRIVING. SCARES ME TO DEATH
"SERVICE TRANSMISSION" LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THE CAR LOSES POWER. THIS HAPPENED TWICE WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION ON THE FREEWAY. HAD TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN
I WAS DRIVING ON I95 NEAR DC IN VERY HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE CAR WOULD COME TO A DEAD STOP WITH THE PARKING LIGHT AND TWO BATTERY LIGHTS ON. IT HAD THE MESSAGE TO PUT CAR IN PARK AND THEN SHIFT TO DESIRED GEAR. IT DID NOT WORK AND IN THE MIDDLE OF HIGH SPEED HEAVY TRAFFIC I HAD TO TURN ENGINE OFF AND RESTART THE CAR FOR IT TO GO BACK INTO GEAR. I WENT TO THE LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP AND THERE WERE NO CODES WHEN THE CAR WAS CHECKED. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID IT HAD TO BE AN ELECTRONIC ISSUE. I WAS TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN ON A BUSY INTERSTATE AND MY JEEP DID THIS THREE TIMES. WE COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN KILLED . MY DEALERSHIP WILL NOT EVEN LOOK AT MY CAR FOR ALMOST TWO WEEKS.
WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE SHUTOFF AND LOST ALL POWER. HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN TRAFFIC. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER, FOUND OUT THE ENGINE CONSUMED 2.5 QUARTS OF OIL [OVER HALF IT'S VOLUME] IN 6 MONTHS. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS OF LOW OIL LEVEL; ENGINE JUST DIED. WAS TOLD THAT THIS OIL CONSUMPTION WAS ACCEPTABLE AND IF I WANTED TO PREVENT THE ENGINE FROM SHUTTING OFF WITHOUT ANY WARNING TO CHECK OIL LEVEL EVERY 1000-1500 MILES TO ASSURE IT'S ADEQUATE. THE COMPUTER APPARENTLY GIVES THE DRIVER NO INDICATION OF LOW OIL VOLUME EVEN AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN FOR THAT EXACT REASON. I WAS TOLD CHRYSLER ONLY BECOMES CONCERNED IF THE ENGINE USE A QUART OF OIL WITHIN 1000 MILES. JEEP CHEROKEE LATITUDE/2016/4CLY ENGINE WITH 35K MILES.
The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission experienced a hard shift while shifting from first gear to second gear. The contact stated that the vehicle felt like it had been rear-ended while shifting into 2nd gear. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V302000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
I'VE HAD THE JEEP LESS THAN 2 YEARS . ONLY 14000 MILES ON IT . THE TRANSMISSION STARTED JERKING AND LUNDGING WHEN IT DOWN SHIFTED OR STARTED OFF FROM A STOP. MY DAUGHTER AND I WHERE COMING BACK FROM THE HUMAN SOCIETY. WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 50 MPH I HAD TO SLOW DOWN FOR ON COMING TRAFFIC.THE JEEP SHIFTED TO A LOWER GEAR AND LUNGED SO FIERCELY I THOUGHT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FALLEN OFF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHCLE IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN. I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP. LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING SERVICE TRANSMISSION. I HAD NO POWER TO MOVE. IM ON AN OVER PASS WITH TRAFFIC AND THERES NO WHERE TO GO IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. BY CHANCE THE JEEP WAS ABLE TO START AND ACCELERATE TO 5MPH AND GET TO A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER. IT WAS A VERY SERIOUS HAZARD FOR ME AND MY DAUGHTER AND OTHER DRIVERS WE BASICALLY GLIDED TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDST OF TRAFFIC WHILE DOING 50MPH. THAN STARTING IT UP AND ONLY DOING 4 TMPH. THIS WAS CLEARLY A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I DONT FEEL SAFE OR CONFENDENT. I PAID A PREMIUM PRICE FOR A VEHICLE THAT SHOULD BE DEPENDABLE AND SAFE. NOW THE JEEP WONT START. THE REAR BUTTON TO CLOSE THE HATCH HAS QUIT WORKING. THE START BUTTON WILL NOT START THE CAR AT ALL. WHEN IT STARTED TO MALFUNCTION. IT WOULD HESATATE AS IF THE BATTERY WHERE DEAD. WHEN IT DID START THE SETTINGS 'CLIMATE CONTROL WOULD BE SET TO DEFROST. THE A WOULD SHOW UP ON THE FACE WITHOUT BEING PRESSED. AND EVENTUALLY THE SCREEN WOULD NOT REACT TO TOUCH AT ALL. AND THE RADIO WOULDNT PLAY. BUT ALL ELISE SEEMED TO WORK WITHOUT A PROBLEM. THE WINDOWS WORKED FINE THE LIGHTS WHERE BRIGHT. THERE WASNT A PROBLEM WITH THE BATTERY. I AM APPLAUDED THAT JEEP WOULD THINK THIS IS ACCEPTABLE FOR A NEW VEHICLE IM THE COMSUMER. I PAID FOR A PRODUCT THAT HAS TO AND IS A TO CERTAIN EXPECTATIONS.
2016 JEEP CHEROKEE 4X4 WON'T START. WHEN FINALLY START, IT SHUTS OFF THE AC SYSTEM. 3 TIMES THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN WHILE ON MY WAY TO WORK ON A BUSY STREET. THE BATTERY IS STILL NEW ACCORDING TO A A TESTER.
I STARTED MY CAR AND SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE POPPED UP AND ALL THE LIGHT ON THE SHIFTER WERE RED, SHUR CAR OFF AND STARTED CAR AGAIN AND WAS FINE FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEN SAME MESSAGE POPPED UP. WAS READING TO SEE IF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND THEY DO AND THERE WAS A RECALL ON A YEAR OR TWO EARLY OF MY CAR.
MY VEHICLE WAS ON CRUISE CONTROL AT 55 MPH AND DURING A DOWNHILL SLOPE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND RPMS JUMPED TO 6-8,000. I COULD NOT GET THE CRUISE CONTROL TO SHUTOFF AND STOP ACCELERATION. I ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. HAS HAPPENED TWICE NOW. I HAVE ALSO HAD IT LURCH FORWARD AT STOP SIGNS WHEN TAKING OFF. *TT *TR
ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASSIONS, WHILE IN MOTION, THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. ON EACH STALL, EVERYTHING SHUT OFF COMPLETELY INCLUDING ALL LIGHTS DASHBOARD ETC. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD (ONCE ON THE HIGHWAY) OBSTRUCTING TRAFFIC, THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. ONLY AFTER WAITING 3 -5 MINUTES DID THE CAR EVENTUALLY START. TWICE I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED.
FAULTY ENGINE WITH EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. ENGINE PISTON BLOWN AT 54K, ON BRAND NEW 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE, AND CONSEQUENTLY REPAIRED UNDER MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. FCA AND DEALERSHIP DIFFICULT TO WORK WITH AND ATTEMPTED EVERYTHING TO AVOID THE REPAIR UNTIL I OBTAINED LEGAL COUNSEL. THE VEHICLE STILL RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF WHILE BEING OPERATED WHICH MAKES IT A DANGER TO ALL. I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH THE DEALERSHIP SAID STEMMED FROM THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WOULD GET "STUCK" IN A PARTICULAR AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO "JUMP" WHILE ATTEMPTING TO IDLE DOWN. LASTLY, THE SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT HAS COME ON. THE LIGHT COMES ON WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND DOES NOT APPEAR TO EFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. NEVERTHELESS, THIS IS ANOTHER PROBLEM ADDED TO THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION ISSUES. THIS VEHICLE IS TRASH AND NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY RECALLED. SHAME ON FCA FOR SELLING THIS VEHICLE WITH A TON OF DEFECTS. SHAME ON ANY AUTHORITY THAT DOES NOT INVESTIGATE THE CLAIMS REGARDING THIS VEHICLE, OR DOES IT TAKE A CATASTROPHIC EVENT TO GATHER YOUR ATTENTION.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE CAR DIED WHILE IN MOTION. THE FIRST TIME, I WAS LEAVING CHURCH AND MADE A LEFT TURN. THE CAR STALLED AND I WAS ABLE TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND STARTED IT UP A COUPLE OF TIMES AND WAS ABLE TO GO. THE SECOND TIME (TODAY), I TURNED INTO A PARKING LOT AND IT JUST KILLED. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND THEN STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND MOVED ON. FORTUNATELY, BOTH TIMES, I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY ADDRESS THIS. WHO KNOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN THE NEXT TIME? THIS FIRST HAPPENED THE 4TH SUNDAY IN MAY OF 2018 AND THE SECOND TIME, JUNE 10, 2018.
DRIVING ON I-95 AT ABOUT 60MPH AND THE SERVICE TRANSMISSION MESSAGE CAME ON ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. LUCKILY WAS NEAR AN EXIT AND PULLED OVER AT THE EXIT. STOPPED ON THE MEDIAN AND TRIED TO GET TO A GAS STATION BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, WAITED FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES, MADE SOME PHONE CALLS, AND TURNED ON THE ENGINE AGAIN. ALL SEEMS OK SO FAR.
LESS THAN 60000 & SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT COMES ON. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE SHIFTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED & IT'S NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. DEALERSHIP SAYS IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW THE JEEP IS DRIVEN. I AM A TEACHER & ONLY DRIVE IT TO AND FROM WORK. THEY SAID IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL. IF IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE WHY ISN'T IT COVERED?
TOOK INTO DEALERSHIP YESTERDAY BECAUSE A SERVICE SHIFTER MESSAGE WAS COMING UP, THE INDICATOR LIGHTS WENT SOLD RED, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD VIOLENTLY SHAKE BOTH WHILE STOPPED AND DURING DRIVING. GOT A CALL THIS MORNING (6/8/18) SAYING THE MODULE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AND SINCE ITS ELECTRICAL ITS NOT COVERED UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. I HAD MENTIONED THIS ERROR MESSAGE TO A SERVICE TECHNICIAN DURING A PREVIOUS VISIT, WHO TOLD ME TO "NOT WORRY ABOUT IT RIGHT NOW".
I HAVE A 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE LATITUDE WITH 33,000 MILES ON IT. THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 20 MPH ON A CITY STREET. THE ENGINE SHUT OFF WITHOUT ANY WARNING, CAUSING ME TO BECOME STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD, NEARLY CAUSING A COLLISION. THE DASHBOARD MADE A DINGING NOISE, AND STATED THE MESSAGE "PLEASE RETURN TO PARK, THEN CHOOSE DESIRED GEAR". AFTER PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE RELATED TO OIL LEVELS IN THE JEEP CHEROKEE. THE NHTSA SHOULD LAUNCH AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS DANGEROUS ENGINE ISSUE THAT AFFECTS THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE.
I BROUGHT THE JEEP NEW IN 2016 AND NOW IT HAS SHUT OFF ON ME WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC WITH NO POWER. THIS IS SCARY. I NEED THIS SITUATION TO BE DOCUMENTED IN THE EVENT SOMETHING CATASTROPHIC HAPPENS TO ME WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. I FEEL A LOT OF ANXIETY ALWAYS FEELING THE CAR WILL SHUT OFF IN TRAFFIC AND GET REAR ENDED. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME REGARDING THIS SITUATION.
THE HEADLIGHTS ARE EXTREMELY DIM SINCE PURCHASE. HAVE CHANGED TO DIFFERENT BULBS WITHOUT ANY EFFECT. THE BULBS ON THIS VEHICLE ARE HALOGEN HEADLAMPS. THE FOG LIGHTS ARE ALWAYS BRIGHTER THAN THE REGULAR BULBS. DEALER UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING.
When I am driving ( mainly around 40 mph ) my vehicles automatic transmission will out of the clear blue SLAM into gear. This does not happen all the time but many times. I have taken it to the dealership on numerous occasions but because they cannot get the vehicle to do it while they are driving it and it does not throw a code they are unable to find or fix the problem . I have called the Chrysler customer service number many times and have been told the supervisor will call me back but never does. This has been going on for the last 4 years.

TWO ISSUES (MAY BE RELATED) FIRST SAFETY ISSUE IS WHEN DRIVING IN HIGHER GEARS AND GAS IS NOT MAINTAINED THE TRANSMISSION CUTS OFF AND IT CAN ONLY IDLE WITH RPMS ABLE TO GO AS HIGH AS 2000 RPMS WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO GAIN SPEED. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THAT WHEN USING CRUISE CONTROL THE VEHICLE WILL INCREASE SPEED WITHOUT ADJUSTING WHEN GOING DOWN A GRADE TO SPEEDS WELL OVER CRUISING SPEED. BOTH ISSUES HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY.
BOUGHT CAR AUGUST 2016, FIRST NOTICED SEVERE JOLT/KICK AUGUST 2017. IT APPEARED RANDOMLY. SO SEVERE THAT THE FIRST 10 OR SO TIMES I REALLY THOUGHT I WAS REAR ENDED. WHEN TRAVELING AROUND 40-45 MPH CAR JOLTS/KICKS/JUMPS/DROPS (PICK YOUR TERM) WHEN THE CAR SHIFTS GEARS. DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME, MOSTLY WHEN TRAFFIC IS CREEPING ALONG.AND NOTICED THAT THE CAR IDLED VERY ROUGHLY OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY JUST BEFORE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ALL THREE TIMES. DEALERSHIP RESETS COMPUTER THEN SAYS THEY CAN'T REPLICATE ISSUE, I'VE TAKEN IT IN 3 TIMES NOW FOR THESE ISSUES WITH NO REAL RESOLUTION. THEY ARE REPLACING VALVE BODY THIS TIME, MY CAR IS UNDER TWO YEARS OLD AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT ANYWHERE.

TURNED CAR OFF AFTER PARKING AND TURNED BACK ON AFTER A FEW HOURS AND WAS NOT ON.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD NOT RESEARCH THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,083.
THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF ON MY WIFE AND CHILD WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING IT ON THE HIGHWAY, AND WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS LOW ON OIL AND THEY DID AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND CLEARED THE VEHICLE AND SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE TO DO OIL CONSUMPTION TEST BEFORE CHRYSLER WILL ISSUE A REPLACEMENT MOTOR, AFTER 2 MONTHS OF THE TEST THEY CONCLUDED THAT IT WAS OK AND SAFE TO DRIVE. THE ISSUE HAPPEND AGAIN WITH MY WIFE AND CHILD IN THE CAR AND DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, SHE MADE IT BACK HOME AND THE MOTOR WAS OUT OF OIL 3,000 MILES BEFORE HER NEXT OIL CHANGE. I GOT IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE TO DO THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST PROCESS AGAIN.
THE CAR WOULD STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THIS HAPPENED BEFORE, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS DUE TO LOW/DIRTY OIL LEVEL, THEY DID THE OIL CHANGE AND IT WAS FINE FOR A WHILE. THIS MORNING THE CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, I HAVE ABOUT 5,000 MILES ON THE CAR SINCE LAST MAINTENANCE, BUT WHEN I CHECKED THE OIL CHANGE INDICATOR, IT SHOWED THAT I STILL HAVE ABOUT 36%.
SEVERAL TIMES NOW IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS WHEN I START TO ACCELERATE, THE JEEP "JUMPS". ALMOST LIKE ITS SLIPPING OR TRYING TO JUMP GEARS. IT'S VERY SCARY, AND I'M AFRAID OF IT JUMPING WHEN I LEAST EXPECT IT AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHICH I DO NOT NEED IN MY CONDITION. AND I JUST RECENTLY REALIZED THAT THE START/STOP FUNCTION HAS NOT BEEN WORKING, WHICH I BELIEVE MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT,I ASKED MY DEALER TO CHECK IT AND THEY GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND. THEN SOMEONE OVER HEARD ME TALKING AND SAID THEY HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. SO I GOOGLED IT AND THERE HAS BEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FOR THE EXACT SAME THING ALL OVER THE I INTERNET! WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO HAVE THIS SERIOUSLY CHECKED OUT FOR A RECALL? HOW MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME ISSUE DOES IT TAKE FOR SOMETHING TO BE DONE? EACH TIME THIS IS THE ISSUE. THIS IS MY 4TH TIME GOING TO THE DEALER. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT ITS VERY RISKY FOR PASSENGERS TO DRIVE SUCH CARS WITH LEAKS. I REQUEST NHTSA TEAM TO PLEASE REVIEW ALL JEEP CHEROKEE MODELS AS THEY NEED RE-CALLS AND ITS UNSAFE FOR PUBLIC TO DRIVE SUCH LEAKY VEHICLES. I'VE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR THREE WEEKS. I PARKED MY CHEROKEE OUTSIDE MY OFFICE AT WORK, SHUT IT OFF AS NORMAL, AND CAME BACK OUT A FEW HOURS LATER TO RUN SOME ERRANDS. I RECEIVED A MESSAGE THAT STATED 'NO FOB DETECTED'. I TRIED THE AUTO START, WHICH WORKED, THE LOCK AND UNLOCK FROM THE KEY FOB WORKED, BUT WHEN I TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE THE ONLY MESSAGE RECEIVED WAS 'NO FOB DETECTED'. I CALLED JEEP AND THEY TRIED TO WALK ME THROUGH A RESET, WHICH DID NOT WORK. AAA CAME OUT TO TRY TO ASSIST. THEY DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY, TRIED JUMPING THE VEHICLE, AND PERFORMED THE RESET AS WELL. NONE OF THIS WORKED. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AM STILL WAITING ON DIAGNOSTICS TO TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT AND HOW MUCH IT WILL COST TO FIX.
I CAME OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY AND STARTED DOWN THE ROAD (35MPH) AND ALL OF A SUDDEN WITHOUT ANY INDICATION MY PANORAMIC SUNROOF EXPLODED AND SHATTERED ALL OVER THE CAR. THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLES ON THIS ROAD, THE ROAD WAS PAVED WITH NO POTHOLES. THE TEMPERATURE WAS ANYWHERE BETWEEN 55-65 AND THE INSIDE OF THE JEEP WAS AT A CONTROLLED TEMPERATURE.
WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE CUT OUT. I DRIFTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED IT. THERE WASN'T ANY MESSAGE THERE WAS A PROBLEM. IT WAS FINE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND THEN WHILE DRIVING TO WORK THE SAME THING HAPPEN AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE WITHOUT BEING HIT. ON CHECKING THE INTERNET IT SHOWED OTHERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND WAS RELATED TO OIL. . CHECKED OIL AND IT WAS LOW. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONFIRMED THE 2.4 CUTS OFF EVEN IF THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION WITH NO WARNING WHEN OIL IS LOW. NO ONE EVER TOLD ME THIS. HAD I BEEN ON A BUSIER MULTI LANE ROAD I MAY HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE NEVER NEEDED TO CHECK MY OIL BETWEEN SERVICE ON A NEWER CAR BEFORE THIS IS AN UNSAFE DEFAULT TO LOW OIL. IT PUTS THE DRIVER AND PUBLIC IN DANGER. HAD I BEEN TOLD THE VEHICLE MAY SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING I WOULD NEVER HAVE BOUGHT THE CAR. THE ENGINE DOES NOT REV AND NO SPEED IS GAINED AS THE CAR CONTINUES TO COAST. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REMEDY IT BY SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL AND BACK INTO DRIVE. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR INDICATORS APPEAR SIGNALING AN ISSUE. THIS TYPICALLY HAPPENS ON CITY STREETS AFTER EXITING THE HIGHWAY AND HAS OCCURRED WHEN GOING STRAIGHT FROM A STOP, OR WHILE MAKING A TURN AFTER A COMPLETE STOP. CAR CURRENTLY HAS LESS THAN 35,000 MILES. HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO ANY DEALERSHIP, SINCE THERE HAS BEEN NO INDICATION OF FAILURE.

THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT SOMEONE FORGOT TO PROGRAM THE COMPUTER. THE TECHNICIAN PROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. WHEN THE CONTACT DROVE HOME AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE SAME DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE CONTACT WAS NOT CONVINCED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,562.

JUST STOPPED WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION. THIS IS A TERRIBLY DESIGNED 'SAFETY FEATURE'. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD I WAS LOW ON OIL. THEY TRIED TO PLAY IT OFF LIKE IT WAS MY FAULT BUT I INSISTED ON A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST, CAME BACK AFTER 1000 MILES AND MY CAR HAS NOW BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 9 WEEKS AFTER THEY CLAIMED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. JEEP NEEDS TO BUY THIS VEHICLE BACK I'M SICK OF DEALING WITH A BRAND NEW PIECE OF TRASH
