TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V203000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM, PCM)) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE IS BROKEN. ALL FOUR OR THE DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKEN. THE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE.I HAVE MANY PEOPLE ONLINE SAY THAT THEIR JEEPS HAVE DONE THE SAME THING. MY GIRL FRIEND HAS EVEN CUT HER HAND DO TO THE SHARP EDGES WHEN IT BREAKS. IN CASE OF A FIRE OR SOMETHING WE WOULD BE TRAPPED INSIDE THE JEEP. I WOULD THINK THE JEEP COMPANY WOULD RECALL THESE TRUCKS BUT THEY WON'T FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
THE DOOR HANDLE HAS COMPLETELY BROKEN OFF THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. THERE WAS NO ABUSE TO THIS DOOR AT ALL. I HAVE SEARCHED FOR A REPLACEMENT PART AND THE DESIGN REQUIRES THAT THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL BE REPLACED. THIS WAS CHANGED THE FOLLOWING MODEL YEAR AS CHRYSLER KNEW IT WAS A MAJOR DEFECT. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR OWNERS OF THIS YEAR & MODEL OF JEEP. *TR
ALL INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES HAVE BROKEN AND CAR CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE INSIDE. *TR
CAN'T BELIEVE IT! I WAS ALMOST KILLED! HAVE HAD THE CAR A FEW MONTHS. ONLY 40,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I WAS DRIVING ON THRUWAY IN BUFFALO, NY AND ENGINE QUIT. LOST STEERING AND BRAKES. ALMOST LOST IT AS I WENT OFF THE ROAD. JUST READ TSB ON THIS CAR, ONLY TO FIND OUT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR YEARS. I'M FUMING. WHY HAVE YOU NOT MADE JEEP RECALLED THESE CARS? TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS NORMAL UPON RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE AND POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V203000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM, PCM)). WHILE DRIVING, ALL GEAR INDICATORS PRND LIGHT SIMULTANEOUSLY, "SERVICE PARK ASSIST SYSTEM" MESSAGE APPEARS, "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT ILLUMINATES, SOME HARD SHIFTS FROM 2 TO 1, 2 TO 3 AND 3 TO 4. VEHICLE LOSES POWER BUT DOES NOT STALL. ENGINE REVS BUT DOES NOT TRANSFER POWER TO WHEELS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE SPEED REDUCED TO 20 MPH WHILE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS ENGAGED AND THE TRANSMISSION WARNING INDICATOR BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE. THE CONTACT MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND UPON RESTARTING THE MALFUNCTION CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE PCM WOULD NEED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V203000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM, PCM). THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT NOTICED THE FRONT AND REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLES WERE CRACKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED ALL FOUR DOOR PANELS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HANDLES BROKE AND YOU HAVE TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE HANDLES ARE MADE OF CHEAP PLASTIC AND BREAK EASY BY NORMAL USE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT COULD POTENTIALLY COST SOMEONE THEIR LIVES. JEEP WANTS AROUND $1200.00 TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD FIX THIS SAFETY ISSUE FOR FREE AND RECALL THE JEEPS AFFECTED. *TR
WE OWN A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER . TOOK REAL GOOD CARE OF THIS CAR. IT ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES ON IT AND ALL FOUR OF THE DOOR PANEL HAVE BROKE I MEAN INTO PIECES 3 TO THE POINT THE DOOR LATCH HAS DROPPED DOWN. THE FIRST ONE WAS WHEN I JUST SHUT THE DOOR AND THEN NOTICE A CRACK,AND THEN THE REST DID THE SAME THING I AN CONCERN ABOUT MY GRANDKIDS IN THE BACK,IF THEY NEEDED TO EXIT IN A HURRY THEY COULD NOT. IT TAKES A FEW MINUTES TO GET THE LATCH JUST RIGHT TO OPEN THE DOOR. WE ALSO HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE REAR END FIXES TWICE. ROARING NOISE. EEP DOES NOT SEEM TO WANT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. SO DON'T BUY A JEEP. A BAD FAULT IN CAR DESIGN. *TR
OUT OF THE BLUE THE WHOLE RADIO/CD/NAVIGATION CONSOLE WENT OUT! THE RADIO STILL WORKS, BUT ONLY THE PRESET STATIONS AND I CAN ONLY CONTROL IT FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THEN I NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT(ON INSTRUMENT PANEL) IS TURNING ON AND OFF AND BEEPING EACH TIME. THERE HAVE ALSO BEEN WATER ISSUES COMING FROM THE SUNROOF, SOAKING THE FLOOR BOARDS IN MAINLY THE PASSENGER SIDE BUT SOMETIMES ALSO THE DRIVERS SIDE. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED. *TR

THE SAME DAY I PURCHASED MY USED 2006 JEEP COMMANDER, I WAS ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR FROM THE INSIDE WHEN THE TRIM AROUND THE HANDLE CRACKED AND A PIECE OF PLASTIC FLEW OFF. THE HANDLE NOW DANGLES, USELESS AND LOOSE. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THEY HAD ALSO JUST REPLACED THE DRIVER'S DOOR PANEL PRIOR TO OUR PURCHASE, HAVING ENCOUNTERED THE VERY SAME PROBLEM WITH THAT DOOR. UNFORTUNATELY, IT APPEARS THAT THESE REPAIRS REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL WHENEVER THE HANDLE BREAKS...I'M BEING TOLD IT IS A $700 REPAIR. *TR
ELECTRICAL ISSUE THAT IS CAUSING ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS TO FLICKER ON AND OFF, HEAT/AIR GOES ON AND OFF, AUDIO CENTER GOES ON AND OFF ALL ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS GO NO AND OFF. DEALERSHIP BLAMED MY REMOTE STARTER(WHICH THEY. *TR INSTALLED) BUT TURNED OUT IT WASN'T AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT IS. SAY THEY CAN'T DETERMINE WHAT IT IS UNLESS IT IS HAPPENING WHEN I BRING IT IN. THE INTERIOR DOOR OPENING CASING CRUMBLES. ALREADY HAD DRIVERS DOOR FIXED BECAUSE I COULDN'T OPEN DOOR FROM INSIDE AND WAS TOLD ALL DOORS WOULD EVENTUALLY HAVE TO BE DONE. DOORS FREEZE DUE TO POOR DRAINAGE. WATER COLLECTS INSIDE DOOR FRAME AND RUNNING BOARD, FREEZING ALL DOORS. IF NOT FOR THE REMOTE STARTER, WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GET IN THE CAR AT ALL. *TR
I HAVE A 06 JEEP COMMANDER THAT HAS BEEN COMPLETELY SHUTTING DOWN WHILE I'M DRIVING. THE RPMS GO UP OVER 3 AND 4 AND THE GEARS SHIFTS FROM HIGH TO LOW. AND ALSO MY ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON. *TT
WHILE DRIVING, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BEGAN FLASHING ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS SEVERAL TIMES FOR A PERIOD OF 5 MINUTES. THE WARNING LIGHTS THAT STAYED ON AFTERWARDS: TRACTION CONTROL AND ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM AND BSP. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH BECAUSE I WAS DISTRACTED BY THE MALFUNCTION. *TR
I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY WHEN ALL THE INSTRUMENT LIGHTS CAME ON. I THOUGHT IT HAD STALLED! WHEN I LOOKED DOWN, THE OB DATA SCREEN SAID AWD SYSTEM FAILED. I PUT IT IN PARK TURNED OFF THE KEY AND TRIED TO RESTART IT AND IT WOULD NOT. THAT'S WHEN I LOOKED UP AND NOTICED A LOT OF WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF MY CAR! WITHIN A SECOND IT TURNED TO BLACK SMOKE! I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. I HURRIED UP AND GOT MY SON AND I OUT OF THE JEEP AND BACKED AWAY, AND WITHIN A FEW SECONDS THERE WAS A POP AND THE JEEP ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ON FIRE. WE CALLED 911. *TR
THE INTERIOR DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE ASSEMBLY HAS BROKEN. I FEAR THAT A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE DOOR HANDLE TO FUNCTION PROPERLY IS IMMINENT. IF THIS FAILURE SHOULD OCCUR IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION THE DOOR MAY NOT OPEN. *TT
I OWN A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER LTD. WITH THE 5.7L HEMI. DATE OF MANUFACTURER WAS 06/06. IN THE PAST YEAR MY COMMANDER HAS BEGAN STALLING OUT SPORADICALLY WHILE STOPPED COMPLETELY. IT OCCURS AT ANY TIME, NIGHT OR DAY, USUALLY ONLY WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD OR COOL. THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A STOP SIGN, STOP LIGHT, OR ANY OTHER COMPLETE STOP IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP THE RPM'S DROP AND THE VEHICLE STALLS OUT. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS SHOW UP ON THE DASH. WHEN IT OCCURS AT NIGHT ALL THE EXTERNAL VEHICLE LIGHTS TURN OFF, THUS MAKING ME AND MY VEHICLE VULNERABLE TO OTHER TRAFFIC. IT DOES NOT TRIP A CODE IN THE COMPUTER SO THE DEALER CANNOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR MAINTENANCE REGARDING THE PROBLEM THE DEALER RECOMMENDED I REPLACE THE EGR VALVE SO I DID WHAT THEY RECOMMENDED. THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. THE DEALER ADVISED ME THAT THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM THEREFORE THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. WHEN MY VEHICLE STALLS OUT IT TYPICALLY WILL DO IT 3-5 ADDITIONAL TIMES PER TRIP AND IT HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE PER WEEK. I HAVE READ THAT NUMEROUS PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS AND JEEP HAS NO FIX. I AM VERY CONCERNED WITH THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE AS I WAS NEARLY STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. RECENTLY I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE STREET AT NIGHT AND WAS PREPARING TO TURN LEFT AT A STOP LIGHT. I STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION TO WAIT FOR THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC TO PASS, WHEN MY CAR STALLED OUT AND ALL OF THE LIGHTS TURNED OFF (HEADLIGHTS, RUNNING LIGHTS, ETC) MAKING MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY INVISIBLE TO TRAFFIC. I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL I PLACED IT IN NEUTRAL AND HAD TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND MOVE OUT OF THE INTERSECTION. PLEASE LOOK FURTHER INTO THIS PROBLEM WITH 2006 JEEP COMMANDERS AS THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAPPEN. *TR
THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ON 2006-2007 JEEP COMMANDERS FAIL WHEN THE PLASTIC HOLDING THE HANDLE TO THE DOOR PANEL BREAKS, THIS COULD LEAD TO NOT BEING ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE FROM THE INSIDE IN AN EMERGENCY. *TT
THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AT 55MPH WITH MY NEW BORN CHILD, AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF, THE ELECTIRC SHUT OFF AND THE POWER STERRING QUIT. THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST SMASHED INTO ME. THE JEEP CAME TO A STOP AND THEN I TURNED THE KEY AND IT TURNED BACK ON. PLEASE HELP ME! *TR

THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN DID NOT APPLY TO THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER:08V203000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM, PCM). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,821.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER, HEATER AND INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD ACTIVATE SPORADICALLY WHEN ENGAGED. THE LIGHTS WOULD FLICKER AND THE AIR CONDITIONER AND HEAT WOULD SHUT OFF AND ON. WHEN THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL AS WELL AND THE ONLY WARNING WAS THAT THE LIGHTS WOULD FLICKER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000.

THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF, IN ORDER TO GET IT OUT OF 3RD GEAR. THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION MADE A LOUD BANG NOISE AND THEN THE ENGINE REVVED UP TO 4000 RPM'S. *JB

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY EXPERIENCE DIFFICULTY STARTING AND REQUIRED A JUMP START. IN ADDITION, THE WINDOWS WOULD INVOLUNTARILY BEGIN OPENING WHEN HE INTENDED TO CLOSE THEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE COULD POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN DUE TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED BUT THE FAILURES CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V203000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM, PPM)). NO ADDITIONAL REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000.

PURCHASED 2006 JEEP COMMANDER ON 8/20/11 AND I DO NOT DRIVE IT ON A DAILY. HOWEVER, AFTER DRIVING FOR LESS THAN AN HOUR ON 8/27/11 THE DASH LIT UP WITH THE MESSAGE "TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP", AFTER GOOGLING I NOTICED THE TRANSMISSION MESSAGE IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN JEEP VEHICLES, MAINLY COMMANDERS. I ALSO READ THAT AFTER SEVERAL "TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP" MESSAGES THE VEHICLE WILL STALL, A COUPLE OF PEOPLE REPORTED IT DOING SO IN THE MIDDLE OF HEAVY TRAFFIC FLOW. ALSO, AFTER STALLING THE CAR WILL NOT RESTART UNTIL IT'S LEFT SITTING FOR HOURS. SOME HAVE LET THEIR JEEP SIT FOR 4 DAYS BEFORE GETTING IT TO RESTART AND OTHERS FOR WEEKS/MONTHS. ABOUT A MONTH LATER IT RAINED FOR THE 1ST TIME SINCE I'VE HAD THE JEEP AND I NOTICED THE HANDRAIL, LOCATED TOP LEFT ABOVE PASSENGER SIDE, WAS DRIPPING ONTO THE DASHBOARD AND THE FLOOR WAS WET AS WELL. GOOGLED THE WATER INCIDENT AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING WET FRONT INTERIOR AFTER RAIN (IN JEEP COMMANDERS, VARIOUS YEARS). SOME COMPLAINED OF MOLD GROWTH AND STATED THERE SEEMS TO BE NO SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEMS; MECHANICS ARE STUMPED AT BOTH WET INTERIORS AFTER RAIN AND "TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP" MESSAGE. BOTH INCIDENTS HAVE MADE ME A BIT NERVOUS SINCE I HAVE A 10 YEAR OLD RIDING WITH ME MAJORITY OF THE TIME. I'VE CONTACTED THE JEEP CORPORATION AND JEEP ASKED ME TO CONTACT NHTSA. THE CUPS INSIDE THE HANDLES OF BOTH OF THE BACK DOORS OF MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER ARE BROKEN TO PIECES. ALTHOUGH THIS MAY SOUND LIKE A COSMETIC ISSUE, YESTERDAY, MY 13 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER THREW UP ALL OVER THE INSIDE OF THE TRUCK BECAUSE WHEN WE PULLED OVER FOR HER TO THROW UP, SHE WAS COMPLETELY UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR!!! TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH 2006 JEEP COMMANDER WHEN GOING DOWN THE ROAD GOES FROM DRIVE TO 3RD GEAR I ALMOST GOT HIT IN THE REAR BY ANOTHER CAR CHECK NENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND YOU CANT GET IT OUYT OF 3RD GEAR. *TR
MY WIFE EXITED THE CAR ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE ON AUGUST 22 AND NOTICED THE DOOR HANDLE HAD SHATTERED. SHE WASN'T ROUGH AND DIDN'T ABUSE IT IN ANY WAY. THAT DOOR MAY BE OPENED 2-3 TIMES A WEEK. IT'S A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER WITH 70000 MILES. NOW THE DOOR HAS TO BE EXTREMELY GENTLY OPENED IN FEAR THAT IT MAY BREAK. CHRYSLER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT IT IS AN INFERIOR DESIGN BUT STILL WANTS TO CHARGE ANYWHERE FROM 600-900$ TO REPAIR IT WITH THE SAME WEAK DESIGN. I HAVE A 3 YEAR OLD SON, AND FEAR THAT IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION THE OTHER HANDLES MAY FAIL LEAVING HIM AND ANYONE ELSE TRAPPED INSIDE. I FEEL CHRYSLER HAS NO CHOICE BUT TO REPLACE THE DOOR PANELS WITH A BETTER DESIGN. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT INVOLVES THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE. *TR

THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

DOOR HANDLED WAS PULLED ON BY AN 8-YEAR OLD FEMALE WITHOUT EXCESSIVE FORCE. 15JUN2013, DRIVER DOOR HANDLE SHATTERED WHEN ATTEMPT TO OPEN WAS MADE, AGAIN WITHOUT EXCESSIVE FORCE. IF VEHICLE IS VEHICLE IS IN A COLLISION WHERE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILS AND THERE IS A FIRE, LIKELIHOOD OF OCCUPANT SURVIVAL IS LOW. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF A YEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BATTERY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
AFTER HAVING PROBLEMS WITH DASHBOARD LIGHTS GOING ALL ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING TWO YEARS AGO, NOW MY TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED AND THE COMPUTER HAS GONE OUT OF THE CAR. I HAVE HAD ONGOING ISSUES WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING, AND HAVE REPLACED THE MODULE IN THE AIR CONDITIONING TO JUST HAVE THE ISSUE RE-APPEAR A YEAR LATER. THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS GONE OUT. AND WITH HEAVY RAINS, I HAVE LEAKING WITH MY SUNROOF. *KB

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH UPDATES THAT NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED ON THE COMPUTER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,147 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V203000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM, PCM)) THAT COULD HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
THE VEHICLE WILL STALL AT SLOW SPEEDS AND DURING IDLE. NO CODES ARE STORED IN THE COMPUTER SO THERE IS NO WAY FOR JEEP TO TRACK IT DOWN. IT HAS HAD ALL THE RECALLS CORRECTED ACCORDING TO JEEP. *TT
IN 2009, THREE YEARS AFTER WE PURCHASED OUR JEEP COMMANDER, THREE OF THE PLASTIC INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ON THE VEHICLE BROKE, MAKING IT DIFFICULT OR IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THE VEHICLE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE. THIS IS A VERY WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM AMONG OWNERS AND DEALERS FOR 2006 AND 2007 MODELS, AND NOT SURPRISINGLY BECAUSE THE HOUSING AND HINGE ARE MADE ENTIRELY OF PLASTIC, AND ARE VERY BRITTLE. AFTER A FEW YEARS OF USE THE PLASTIC STARTS TO CRACK AND THEN BREAK AWAY, AND THE INNER HANDLE WILL NOT FUNCTION. THIS IS PARTICULARLY TRUE IN TROPICAL CLIMATES. THIS SHOULD BE AN EASY FIX, BUT UNFORTUNATELY IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE HANDLE YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL. IN PUERTO RICO, THE COST OF THE DRIVER'S PANEL IS $747, PLUS THEY CHARGE YOU TWO HOURS OF LABOR TO INSTALL THE NEW PANEL. IT IS EVIDENT THAT THIS IS A LEGITIMATE SAFETY ISSUED, CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE DESIGN. APPARENTLY CHRYSLER AGREES, BECAUSE IN 2008 THEY CHANGED THE INTERIOR HANDLE DESIGN. HOWEVER, THOSE OF US WITH 2006 OR 2007 MODELS ARE LEFT WITH EITHER AN EXISTING OR EXPECTED HAZARD. EVEN IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY TO INVEST INTO REPLACING THESE PANELS, THE FLIMSY DESIGN WILL NOT HOLD UP, AND YOU CAN EXPECT THAT AT ANY MOMENT THE NEW HANDLES WILL BREAK AGAIN. THE DEFECTIVE DESIGN OF THESE HANDLES MAKES THEM PARTICULARLY SUSCEPTIBLE TO BEING DAMAGED OR BROKEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR EMERGENCY SITUATION. IT IS UNCONSCIONABLE THAT CHRYSLER HAS NOT RECALLED THEM, GIVEN THE INORDINATE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS WITH THIS PRECISE PART.
ALL FOUR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES AND PLASTIC AROUND THE DOOR HANDLES ARE BEGINNING TO CRACK AND BREAK. THE PLASTIC INDENT UNDERNEATH THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES HAS BECOME EXTREMELY BRITTLE AND WILL CRACK IF YOU BARELY TOUCH IT. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE HAS BROKEN FROM THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR PANEL AND ALL THE PLASTIC SURROUNDING THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HAS BEGUN BREAKING AND FALLING INSIDE THE DOOR PANEL. I HAVE THOROUGHLY RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON COMPLAINT AND WAS SURPRISED THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL NOTICE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS. INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE EXTREMELY FRAGILE AND CAN EASILY BREAK OFF WHICH WOULD PREVENT SOMEONE FROM ESCAPING THE VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT TO REPAIR THE DOOR HANDLE, THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED (AT APPROXIMATELY $600 INCLUDING PARTS AND LABOR). THIS DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE ISSUE WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN AS THEY HAVE NOT MADE ANY CHANGES TO THE DOOR PANELS TO PREVENT IT FROM DOING SO. $2400 TO REPAIR THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLES OF MY VEHICLE WITH NO ASSURANCE THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN SEEMS TO BE IMMORAL AND ILLEGAL. *TR
THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS YEAR ROUND. ONCE YOU PUT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE, ALL OF THE SHIFT LIGHTS "PRND" LIGHT UP AND THE VEHICLE WON'T ACCELERATE. IF YOU ARE ALREADY DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD/ FREEWAY, IT WILL RANDOMLY LIGHT UP AND STOP ACCELERATING. WHEN IT RANDOMLY OCCURS, IT HAPPENS WITH NO WARNING, AND YOU HAVE TO ATTEMPT TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF ROAD, PUT IT INTO NEUTRAL OR PARK OR RESTART THE VEHICLE, AND ATTEMPT IT AGAIN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON AND THE PROBLEM WILL HAPPEN REPEATEDLY OVER A WEEK PERIOD, THEN THE PROBLEM WILL STOP FOR A WEEK OR TWO AND THEN RESURFACE AT THE WORST TIME- FOR EXAMPLE AN INTERSECTION, AN ON-RAMP, A BUSY STREET, AND IT HAS PRESENTED HUGE SAFETY ISSUES FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. DOES IT TAKE SOMEONE DYING FOR THIS TO GET RECALLED? I HAVE READ FORUM AFTER FORUM OF THE SAME ISSUE AMONGST CONSUMERS WITH MY EXACT MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR (AND EARLIER MODELS) AND YET, WHEN I CALLED JEEP, THEY SAY THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF IT, THERE IS NO RECALL, AND I'VE BEEN TURNED AWAY. *KB
