2006 JEEP COMMANDER HESITATES WHEN MAKING A TURN. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, BUT HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE A DAY. IT HAS BEEN TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE FOR THIS PROBLEM. A COUPLE OF TIMES BUT THE DEALERS SAY THEY CAN NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND I HAVE COME CLOSE TO BEING HIT WHILE PULLING OUT ON THE HIGHWAY NUMEROUS TIMES. *TR
2006 4.7L, 4X4 JEEP COMMANDER STOPPED RUNNING FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED ON A SECONDARY ROAD. AFTER PULLING OVER AND PUTTING ON HAZARDS TRIED RESTARTING ENGINE SUCCESSFULLY. *TR
I OWN A JEEP COMMANDER 2006 5.7 LITER ENGINE. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER ABOUT A STALLING PROBLEM AND THEY TELL ME THAT IT DOES NOT REGISTER IN THE COMPUTER AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS WRONG. THIS TRUCK STALLS ABOUT 4 TIMES A WEEK IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. BEING THAT I HAVE A TODDLER AND A BABY I AM NOT SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE AND NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE. IT WILL JUST COMPLETELY TURN OFF AND I LOSE ALL STEERING. PLEASE HELP!! *TR
VEHICLE CONTINUED STALLING WHILE IS DRIVEN A LOW RPM. MORE THE 25 TIMES. VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT WITH 15, 200 MILES. VEHICLE HAS NOW 52, 300. EVERYTIME IS TAKEN TO SERVICE THE PROBLEM WAS MENTION TO THE DEALER TECHNICIAN BUT THEY CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. NOV 20, 2007 I SCRATCHED THE LEFT REAR FENDER OF THE VEHICLE WITH A TREE WHILE BACKING UP. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER VEHICLE ROLLED BACK AND STOPPED. RESTING ON THE SIDE OF THE TREE. PICTURES WERE TAKEN OF THE DAMAGES ON THE VEHICLE . DEALERS TECHNICIAN STATES NO PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. SECOND PROBLEM BACKUP SYSTEM. ASSISTS THE DRIVER TO MOVE THE VEHICLE SAFELY, ONE SENSOR FAILED FROM THE BUMPER MOUNT. TWO MONTHS DEALER HAS NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE YET. NEED TO REPLACED THE ENTIRE BUMPER TO REPAIRED ONE SENSOR. *TR
TOOK CAR TO DEALER TO HAVE RECALL #07V434000 -SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE SOFTWARE PROGRAMMED INTO THE ABS ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE MAY ALLOW A MOMENTARY DELAY IN BRAKING WHEN COASTING UP A HILL DURING CERTAIN CONDITIONS--COULD CAUSE CRASH! WHEN THE DEALER CORRECTED THE RECALL ISSUE, THE ABS MODULE FAILED--THIS WAS IN NORTH CAROLINA WHERE CAR WAS BOUGHT INITIALLY. TOOK CAR TO PENNSYLVANIA DEALER TO HAVE THE ABS MODULE INSTALLED. WAITED FOR NEW MODULE WHEN IT ARRIVED 2 WEEKS LATER, DEALER SAID THAT NEW MODULES WERE FAILING AND COULD NOT BE FIXED AND THAT DETROIT WAS SAYING THEY KNEW THEY HAD A PROBLEM AND WERE ATTEMPTING TO CORRECT. I CALLED JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY SAID ALL THEY COULD DO WAS TELL ME WHAT ALREADY HAD BEEN TOLD BY DEALER THAT THEY WERE WAITING FOR A FIX/NEW COMPONENTS FROM JEEP. CUSTOMER SERVICE CHECKED WITH BOTH DEALERSHIPS AND AGAIN REITERATED THAT DETROIT WAS ATTEMPTING TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND AS SOON AS THEY DID THEY WOULD SEND NEW MODULE. THE JEEP IS NOW BEING DRIVEN W/O ABS OR THE ESP MODULES, BOTH LIGHTS ARE ON AND CAR KEEPS ALERTING TO GET SERVICE. MY INSURANCE GIVES ME A DISCOUNT FOR HAVING ABS BUT NOW I AM DRIVING W/O THEM. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR SINCE THE INITIAL RECALL SAID THAT A CRASH COULD OCCUR. DURING WINTER DRIVING HAVING TO STOP QUICKLY CAN OCCUR FROM OUT OF NOWHERE, NOW I DO NOT HAVE ABS OR ESP. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. JEEP DOES NOT SEEM TO CARE. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE REP SUGGESTED THAT THE ONLY THING THEY COULD TELL ME WAS TO CONTACT MY STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND FILE A COMPLAINT--WHICH I HAVE DONE. THERE WAS ANOTHER CAR IN THE PA DEALERSHIP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS MINE--NO ABS OR EPS AFTER ATTEMPTING TO FIX THE INITIAL RECALL PROBLEM. HOW MANY MORE CARS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM? PLEASE INVESTIGATE BEFORE THERE IS A DEATH. THANK YOU. *CN
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 50-60 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD DIM INTERMITTENTLY AND ILLUMINATE AGAIN AFTER APPROXIMATELY ONE MINUTE. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS COMPLETELY FAILED AND WOULD FLASH WHEN THE DOOR WAS AJAR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,300.
JEEP COMMANDER HAD SIGNIFICANT FAILURES. COMMAND MODULE CAUSED VEHICLE TO LOSE ALL POWER AND CONTROL WHILE TRAVELING IN HEAVY HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC. SUB FRAME MIS MANUFACTURED CAUSING VEHICLE TO OUT OF SERVICE FOR OVER 2 WEEKS. BRAKE ROTORS WARPED CAUSING REDUCED BRAKING. *TR
ON AT LEAST TEN DIFFERENT OCCASIONS THE 2006 JEEP COMMANDER HAS STALLED AT SPEEDS RANGING FROM 15 TO 70 MILES PER HOUR. POWER IS SHUT OFF COMPLETELY LEADING TO THE LOSS OF ALL FUNCTIONALITY. IF THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED SLIGHTLY, THE WHEEL LOCKS, LEAVING THE VEHICLE IN A SITUATION WHERE IT HAS TO COAST TO A STOP. THIS IS A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE WITH SMALL CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. ACCIDENTS HAVE NEARLY OCCURRED AS A RESULT OF THIS HAPPENING. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVEN OCCASIONS WHEN THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE LOCAL DEALER WITH NOTHING ACCOMPLISHED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER BLAMES THE OPERATORS OF THE VEHICLE FOR HITTING THE KEY WITH THEIR KNEE. THIS IS NOT THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AS IT OCCURS WHEN THE DRIVER'S KNEE IS NOWHERE NEAR THE KEY. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT APPARENTLY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THIS PROBLEM WHEN THEY SERVICE THE VEHICLE FOR SOME REASON THOUGH IT IS A VERY REAL ISSUE FOR MY FAMILY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH ATTEMPTING TO STOP, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FOR RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). HOWEVER, THE PARTS NEEDED WERE UNAVAILABLE FOR REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
SOON AFTER I PURCHASE MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER SPORT 4X4 (5 SPEED)... I BEGAN TO DO SOME RESEARCH ON THIS VEHICLE (I SHOULD HAVE DONE THIS PRIOR TO THE PURCHASE)... I WAS GOING THROUGH THIS COMPLAINT DATABASE AND I WAS ALARMED TO READ THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS A HISTORY OF STALLING. WELL, IT FINALLY HAPPENED TO ME ON 11/4/2007 (WITH 11,600 EXACT MILEAGE) DRIVING HOME FROM SHOPPING WITH MY FAMILY. THE COMMANDER STALLED OUT ON DURING THE HIGHWAY MERGED. LUCKILY, I WAS IN THE FAR RIGHT LANE TO JUMP OFF THE HIGHWAY IMMEDIATELY. THE POWER LOSS THAT I EXPERIENCE WAS ONLY WITH ABILITY TO MOVE THE VEHICLE. MY DASHBOARDS LIGHTS, HEADLIGHTS, RADIO; BREAKS WERE FULLY OPERATIONAL (THANKFULLY). NO ACCIDENTS, NO INJURIES EXCEPT MY CHILDREN ARE NOW AFRAID OF BEING INSIDE OF THE COMMANDER. TO BE HONEST, SO AM I. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS REPORTS ON WHAT IS OCCURRING?.. EVERYTHING FROM DOWNLOADING AN UPGRADED TO DEBRIS IN THE HOSE. EITHER WAY, CHRYSLER NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS IMMEDIATELY; THE POTENTIAL OF DEATH IS VERY REALISTIC. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY JEEP COMMANDER SHUTS OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE JEEP BECOMES INOPERABLE, NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. IT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST A HALF DOZEN TIMES. I INITIALLY TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS! *TR
I OWN A JEEP COMMANDER WITH A 3.7 V6 ENGINE 2006 4X4. I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH STALLING AND IDLING. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER ON A COUPLE OF TIMES AND THEY CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE STALLING HAPPENED ABOUT 1 - 2 TIME PER WEEK IN TRAFFIC AND STOP LIGHTS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 12,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.THIS ISSUE WAS REPORTED TO DCX ON 10/30/07 (CASE NO. 103007).
THREE TIMES I EXPERIENCED POWER LOSS WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER, 4X4. THE FIRST TIME -- I TURNED THE IGNITION TO START THE JEEP AND IT DIDN'T KICK OVER RIGHT AWAY, ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS LIT UP SIMULTANEOUSLY, THEN RANDOMLY AND AT VARYING LENGTHS OF TIME WENT OUT. THE DASH LIGHTS AND THE RADIO WERE TURNING ON AND OFF. WEIRD, I SHUT IT OFF AND WAITED ABOUT 2 MINUTES. I STARTED IT AGAIN AND EVERYTHING SEEMED OK (EXCEPT THE AIRBAG LIGHT REMAINED ON). AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT ONTO THE MAIN ROAD, THE DASHBOARD LIT UP AGAIN, FLASHING ON AND OFF AS BEFORE, AND THEN A CLUNK-JERK -- NO POWER STEERING, NO POWER BRAKES, LIGHTS STILL GOING CRAZY. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO ANOTHER PARKING LOT, STOP SAFELY. I TURNED IT OFF, WAITED 5 MINUTES, THEN IT STARTED AND I MADE IT HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT (AIRBAG LIGHT STILL LINGERED FOR A WHILE). TWO AND A HALF WEEKS LATER, AS I WAS LEAVING MY HOUSE (SO I WAS GOING SLOW) THE DASHBOARD STARTED THE SAME FLASHING ROUTINE AS BEFORE. I SHUT THE JEEP OFF IMMEDIATELY, WAITED ABOUT 2 MINUTES AND RE-STARTED. NO FURTHER PROBLEMS BUT THE AIRBAG LIGHT LINGERED A FEW MINUTES AS BEFORE. THE THIRD INCIDENT (OCTOBER 29TH), I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE MAIN ROAD ABOUT 40 MHP ON A STRAIGHT SMOOTH SECTION WHEN ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS BEGAN FLASHING ON/OFF (OH, NO!). AT THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY I TURNED OFF THE MAIN ROAD AND KEPT DRIVING SLOWLY TO MY GARAGE. I MADE IT THERE WITHOUT LOSING THE STEERING/BRAKES, LIGHTS FLASHING THE WHOLE WAY. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT NOW. THE DEALER IS UNABLE TO RE-CREATE THE PROBLEM, THEIR ONLY SOLUTION WAS TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER, WHO SUGGESTS THAT I REMOVE THE OTHER THREE KEYS FROM MY KEYRING BECAUSE THEIR WEIGHT MUST BE CAUSING THE HIGHLY-SENSITIVE IGNITION TUMBLER TO TOGGLE TO ACCESSORY MODE. UUUUUGGGGHHHHHH. I AM NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THIS EXPLANATION. I AM STILL AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. WHAT SHOULD I DO? *TR
MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER STALLS ON ME WHY DRIVING. IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR 8 MONTHS NOW. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THE CAR WILL SHUT DOWN ON YOU WHEN DRIVING. PROMPTING YOU TO HAVE TO BRING THE CAR TO A COMPLETE STOP TO RESTART. I HAVE BEEN DEALING FOR MONTHS ON THIS ISSUE AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. I AM I N A RENTAL CAR 90% OF THE TIME. THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WHILE TRAVELING 20 MPH THROUGH A RED LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL IT TURNED ITSELF BACK ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TWICE, BUT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER BEING SERVICED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 32,000.

2006 JEEP COMMANDER V6 IDLES ROUGH WHEN STOPPED AND STARTS TO CUT OUT AS IF IT IS GOING TO STALL. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING 14 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE REMAINED OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY STILL AT THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 39,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
PULSATING OF BRAKES WHEN APPLIED TO COME TO A STOP. ASKED DEALERSHIP 2X TO CHECK. FIRST TIME WAS TOLD THEY WERE FINE, SECOND TIME THEY TOOK OUT FOR A TEST DRIVE AND EXPERIENCED THE PULSING. INSPECTED THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND FOUND THAT ALL 4 ROTORS WERE NOT WORN DOWN, BUT WERE WARPED. THEY EXPLAINED THAT IT WAS MOST LIKELY CAUSED BY BEING HEATED UP BY FREQUENTLY STOPPING SHORT. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 30 YEARS AND HAVE HAD MANY VEHICLES AND NEVER AN ISSUE WITH REPLACING ROTORS AFTER 2 YEARS, NOT DUE TO THE LIFE OF THE ROTOR, BUT WARPING. I HAVE BEEN IN THE SAME JOB FOR 23 YEARS AND DRIVING THE SAME ROADS. I DO NOT FREQUENTLY STOP SHORT OR RIDE MY BRAKES. IF ANYTHING I UTILIZE THE FEATURE OF DOWN SHIFTING AS NOT TO APPLY THE BRAKES AS OFTEN. I WAS TOLD THAT WHEN I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY ISSUES BECAUSE IT WAS A FIRST MODEL BECAUSE IT WAS BASED ON THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION SUIT REGARDING THE BRAKES ON THAT MODEL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE ENGINE REVVED ON ITS OWN AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO APPROXIMATELY 50-60 MPH. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO PARK AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY REVVED UP AGAIN. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN GEAR, BUT WHEN THE SHIFT LEVER REACHED REVERSE, THE VEHICLE JERKED BACKWARDS AND STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH DAIMLER CHRYSLER AND THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD CONDUCT AN INVESTIGATION. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 16,500.
I HAD A WARRANTY ON MY JEEP AND CALLED IN ABOUT MY SEATS BELT IN 2008, TOLD THE COMPANY MY REAR SEATBELTS WERE FALLING APART AND NOT ABLE TO CLICK INTO PLACE, AS WELL AS MY 2ND ROW SEAT BELTS THE PLASTIC AROUND THEM ARE FALLING OFF AND THE BELTS ARE NOT LOCKING. THE DAIMLER CHRYSLER WARRANTY COMPANY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY RECALL, BUT THIS WOULD BE A DEFECT IN THE SEAT BELTS NOT LOCKING INTO BELTS CLASPS AND NOT PLASTIC IS COMING OFF, AND MY KIDS ARE COMING OUT OF THE SEATBELTS, ALMOST ENDING UP IN A WRECK BACK IN 2007, REP FROM WARRANTY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR SEATBELTS TO BE LOOKED AT. I AM UNABLE TO SECURELY PUT MY KIDS IN THE BACK SEATS NOW. I AM RESEARCHING RECALLS NOW AND SEEN I CAN MAKE A FORMAL COMPLAINT. *TR
MY WIFE'S JEEP COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE GOING 45 MILES AN HOUR AND SHE WENT OFF OF THE ROAD. THIS HAPPENED LESS THAN A MONTH AFTER WE TOOK IT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP TO HAVE FIXED. THEY SAID AS IM SURE EVERY ONE WHO HAS PUT IN AN APPARENT USELESS COMPLAINT THAT " NO ERRORS ARE COMING UP AND THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A PROBLEM. " WHAT BOTHERS ME THE MOST ABOUT THIS IS THAT JEEP HAS NOT ISSUED ANY STATEMENT AFTER THE COUNTLESS COMPLAINTS KEEP FILING IN. JUST BECAUSE NO ERROR MESSAGE IS COMING UP WHEN IT IS PLUGGED IN DOESN'T MEAN THESE HUNDREDS OF JEEP COMMANDER OWNERS ARE LYING ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING. I HAVE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT TOMORROW. THIS EXERCISE IS GETTING OLD . IT SHOULD NOT HAVE TO TAKE A DEATH FROM SOME ONE DRIVING THESE VEHICLES TO HAVE CHRYSLER DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS . I HAVE READ MANY OF THESE COMPLAINTS THAT OTHER CONCERNED DRIVERS HAVE PUT IN. APPARENTLY THIS SITE DOESN'T GET CHRSLERS ATTENTION . *JB

THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THEY REPLACED A PUMP. THE NAME OF THE PUMP WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 17,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER 4X2. WATER DRAINS IN FROM THE SUNROOF, DOWN INTO THE DASHBOARD, AND THEN ONTO THE FRONT AND REAR CARPET. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE CAN HEAR THE WATER WHILE DRIVING. THE COILS UNDERNEATH BOTH FRONT SEATS HAVE RUSTED DUE TO THE WATER ENTERING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DOES NOT KNOW WHAT KIND OF DAMAGE THE WATER HAS CAUSED TO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. HE STATED THAT THERE ARE TWO DRAINS ON EACH SIDE OF THE SUNROOF, AND THEY ARE NOT DRAINING THE WATER PROPERLY. THE FIRST TIME THE DRIVER'S SIDE DRAIN FAILED, THE DEALER STATED THAT A BUG WAS STUCK IN THE DRAIN. THE SECOND TIME, THE DEALER STATED THAT DIRTY RAIN WATER WAS IN THE PASSENGER DRAIN. IN ADDITION, THE AIR CONDITIONER FAN HAS BEGUN TO FLUTTER. THIS FAILURE HAS OCCURRED TWICE. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE SUNROOF DURING THE FIRST VISIT, AND THE CONTACT MADE THE REPAIR THE SECOND TIME. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
MY HUSBAND AND I FINANCED A USED 2006 JEEP COMMANDER WHILE HE WAS HOME ON 2 WEEKS OF LEAVE FROM AND 18 MONTH TOUR IN AFGHANISTAN. ABOUT A WEEK AFTER WE TOOK THE CAR HOME IT STALLED OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME. HE HOOKED IT UP TO DIAGNOSTICS AND TOLD US SOMETHING ABOUT THE COMPUTER RECORDING A FREAK READING OF BAROMETRIC PRESSURE WHICH IS WHAT MADE THE CAR SHUT OFF AND THAT IT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. AFTER MY HUSBAND RETURNED TO AFGHANISTAN TO FIGHT TERRORISM FOR THE US ARMY I WAS DRIVING HOME AFTER DARK FROM OUT OF TOWN AND MY HEADLIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER...THE FREQUENCY OF THIS KEPT INCREASING AND EACH TIME THIS HAPPENED THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD ALSO FLICKER AND IT BECAME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO HAVE THE LIGHTS COME BACK ON. I OWN A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. IT STARTED STALLING ON ME IN FEB OR 07. SINCE THEN IT HAS STALLED 20 TIMES OR MORE. SINCE PURCHASING OUR COMMANDER IN EARLY 2006, WE HAVE EXPERIENCED NO LESS THAN 12 INCIDENTS OF STALLING. THE VEHICLE STALLED AT A COMPLETE STOP, AS WELL AS WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 50-65 MPM. WE ALSO HAVE EXPERIENCED EXTREMELY SLUGGISH ACCELERATION AT HIGHWAY SPEED, BOTH SITUATIONS PLACING US AT IN DANGER OF A COLLISION. I STARTED MY JEEP A COUPLE MINUTES LATER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND ALL GAUGES WERE STILL AT ZERO AND FRIGHTENED, I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME THROUGH THE NEIGHBORHOOD. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH WAS THERE A DAY BECAUSE THEY KNEW I WAS FURIOUS AT THIS TIME BECAUSE I COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT CAUSING INJURY TO MYSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS, I THEN GOT IT BACK AND WAS DRIVING HOME AGAIN THANK GOODNESS NOT ON THE FREEWAY AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE BECAUSE NOTHING IS BEING DETECTED ON THE CHIP SO THEY CAN NOT FIX IT, THEY ADVISED ME TO JUST DRIVE IT AND KEEP A LOG OF THE PATTERN TO HELP THEM DETERMINE THE CAUSE. '07, I MADE SEVERAL PHONE CALLS AND WROTE SEVERAL LETTERS TO CHRYSLER (VIA ITS REGISTERED AGENT) CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM. ALL OF MY LETTERS WERE IGNORED. FROM SEPT. '06 TO DEC. '07, CHRYSLER REQUIRED ME TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP CONCERNING THE STALLING PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH CHRYSLER'S EMPLOYEES KNEW A TASK FORCE HAD BEEN FORMED TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM. IN LATE DEC. '07, I DISCOVERED AN INTERNET ARTICLE ENTITLED "JEEP STALLING PROBLEM" AND FAXED THE ARTICLE TO CHRYSLER. ACCORDING TO THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THIS ARTICLE, MANY CUSTOMERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE 2006 JEEP COMMANDER LIMITED, AND EVEN CHRYSLER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. AS A RESULT OF GAINING ACCESS TO THIS ARTICLE, I WAS ABLE TO CHALLENGE CHRYSLER'S DISHONEST ASSERTION THAT MY PROBLEM WAS UNIQUE AND THAT NO OTHER CONSUMER HAD COMPLAINED OF THIS PROBLEM. THEN, LAST THURSDAY, SEPT. 13, I NOTICED MY DASHBOARD LIGHTS (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, BRAKES AND TRANSMISSION LIGHTS) FLASHING ON AND OFF AS I ACCELERATED FROM A STOP AND HEADED UPHILL. IT FELT AS THOUGH THE JEEP WANTED TO STOP AND GO AT THE SAME TIME. I REPORTED IT TO MY DEALERSHIP AND BROUGHT IN THE VEHICLE THE NEXT WEEK. THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED ME $190 TO ANALYZE IT (SINCE MY JEEP WAS ABOUT 8,000 MILES BEYOND THE WARRANTY PERIOD). THEN, THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD COST ME OVER $400 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. I BEGAN TO RESEARCH THE INTERNET ABOUT RECALLS ON THIS MAKE AND MODEL AND FOUND THAT CHRYSLER HAD ISSUED A RECALL ON FRIDAY, SEPT. 14, 2007. I PRINTED THE ARTICLE AND BROUGHT IT TO MY SERVICE REP AT MCCUNE. THE REP INSISTED THAT IT WAS NOT MY PROBLEM AND THAT HIS DEALERSHIP HAD NOT HEARD OF A RECALL ON MY MAKE AND MODEL. SO, I CALLED CHRYSLER'S CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN OAK RIDGE, TN. THE REPRESENTATIVES THERE INSISTED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. FRUSTRATED, I ACCEPTED THE DEALERSHIPS OFFER TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE. THEY QUOTED ME A $100 DEDUCTIBLE TO PLACE THE VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY. AS I DROVE OFF, THE SAME THING HAPPENED ALL OVER AGAIN. I CALLED THE SERVICE ADVISOR AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAD HAPPENED. HE INSISTED THAT HE TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND THE LIGHTS NEVER CAME ON. I DIDN'T BELIEVE HIM. I FEEL THAT HE MISLEAD ME AND THAT HIS DEALERSHIP NEVER REPAIRED MY VEHICLE. I WILL BRING MY VEHICLE BACK TO MCCUNE MONDAY MORNING (9/24/07) AND I WILL SEE WHAT WILL HAPPEN. I PAID FOR A RENTAL VEHICLE LAST WEEK (OVER $100 AND THE DEALERSHIP NEVER OFFERED TO COVER MY EXPENSES. I AM SO FRUSTRATED. *TR
WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT ON 4 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS OVER A PERIOD OF 2 WEEKS, THE VEHICLE LOST TOTAL ELECTRICAL POWER AND ENGINE SHUT OFF BY IT SELF. THE 2006 JEEP COMMANDER RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY AFTER PUTTING IN PARK AND TURNING IGNITION. THE JEEP WAS BROUGHT INTO THE JEEP SERVICE CENTER ON 9-11-2007. SERVICE TECH SAID THAT THEY HAD SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH ANOTHER JEEP COMMANDER IN THE SERVICE CENTER AND COULD NOT FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. PER THE SERVICE TECH NO ERROR MESSAGES WERE REPORTED. THEY CALLED CHRYSLER WHO TOLD THEM TO DO A PCM REFLASH INSTALL PER STAR. THE CAR HAS STALLED AGAIN SINCE THEN. *JB
MY 2006 JEEP COMMANDER CONTINUALLY STALLS, THREATENING THE LIVES OF WHOEVER IS IN THE CAR. THERE IS NO WARNING. SUDDENLY THERE WILL BE A COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. NO WARNING LIGHTS, NO BELLS, SOUNDS, WHISTLES...NOTHING! THE ONLY WAY TO REMEDY IS TO TURN VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART. THIS TURNS IN TO A LIFE THREATENING INCIDENT WHEN THE TRAFFIC BEHIND YOU IS UNAWARE THAT YOU ARE IN FACT STALLED. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NO UPDATES OR COMPLAINTS OF THIS PROBLEM (YA, RIGHT) AND DRIVES IT AROUND THE BLOCK...WITH NO INCIDENCES OCCURRING. IF THEY THINK IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN WHILE THEY'RE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THEY'RE WRONG. I 'M RISKING MY FAMILIES LIVES EVERY TIME WE GET IN THE CAR. IT'S THE MOST EXPENSIVE PIECE OF JUNK I'VE EVER OWNED! VISIBILITY OUT THE REAR WINDOW WHEN THE 3RD ROW SEATS ARE UP IS JUST ABOUT ZERO. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. YOU CAN'T SEE CARS, KIDS, OR YOUR NEIGHBORS HOUSE WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO SEE WHAT'S BEHIND YOU. DRIVER'S SIDE LOCKS ON IT'S OWN. LUCKILY THE PASSENGER DOORS REMAIN UNLOCKED, SO I HAVEN'T LOCKED MYSELF OUT...YET. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35MPH AND ENGAGING THE BRAKE PEDAL INTERMITTENTLY, THE ENGINE STALLED. THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES ALSO FAILED AND THE RADIO CONTINUED TO PLAY. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR 28 DAYS TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED DURING OR AFTER THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE RESTARTS IMMEDIATELY. SPEED WAS NOT A FACTOR WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000.
WINDSHIELD IN THE 06 JEEP COMMANDER IS WEAK, AND SEEMS TO BE A TARGET FOR ROCKS AND BUGS. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR 3 MONTHS AND HAVE TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD DUE TO EXTREME CRACKS FROM 2 SEPARATE ROCKS HITTING IT. *JB
SINCE THE BEGINNING OF OWNERSHIP, THIS CAR HAS STALLED MANY TIMES (AS WELL AS OTHER VARIOUS AND ODD ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS.) MANY TIMES I CAN TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON AND IT WILL RESTART. THIS DOES HAPPEN IN PARKING LOTS AND HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS WELL. I HAVE ALSO LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WHEN IN PARKING LOTS AT A VERY SLOW ACCELERATION SPEED. I HAVE ALSO HAD AIR BAG WARNING LIGHTS GO ON AND STAY ON THEN RANDOMLY SHUT OFF. THE DEALER HAS TRIED TO HELP RESOLVE BUT IS LIMITED BY CHRYSLER'S ABILITY TO RECOGNIZE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. IF THERE IS NO CODE IN THE CARS COMPUTER, THERE IS NO PROBLEM AND CAN'T BE DUPLICATED. IF THE PROBLEM CAN'T BE DUPLICATED, THERE IS NO REPAIR. BUT IT KEEPS HAPPENING OVER AND OVER. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER WITH NO RESOLVE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS HAD MY CAR AND DROVE IT FOR 3 WEEKS TO TRY TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. SINCE IT IS SO RANDOM AND THEY JUST DIDN'T GET ENOUGH TIME/MILES IN, THE PROBLEM DIDN'T HAPPEN. IT STALLED AGAIN ABOUT 3 WEEKS AFTER THAT PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. THERE HAS BEEN NO REPAIR, BECAUSE CHRYSLER SAYS THERE IS NO PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WITH A 15 YEAR OLD ON A PERMIT DRIVING WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR SINCE MARCH 2006 AND THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING MANY TIMES REPEATEDLY SINCE THEN. NOT ALL HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTED AND BECAUSE IT OCCASIONALLY HAPPENS ON WEEKENDS OR HOLIDAYS, I HAVE NO ABILITY TO GET IT IN TO A DEALERSHIP. IN ORDER FOR THEM TO BE ABLE TO READ A CODE, I WOULD HAVE TO LEAVE THE CAR IN A STALLED POSITION WHEREVER IT OCCURRED AND HAVE IT TOWED DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER. THIS IS HIGHLY IMPRACTICAL AND UNSAFE. ESPECIALLY SCARY AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE HIGHWAY. I DO NOT WANT TO BE A CASUALTY OF CHRYSLER'S FAILURE TO RECOGNIZE THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF THESE VEHICLES OUT THERE DOING THIS EXACT SAME THING.
