ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS MY ENGINE HAS SHUT OFF AND GONE INTO A 'LIMP MODE' WHILE I AM DRIVING WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR INDICATOR LIGHT ACTIVATION. THIS HAS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS AND HAS NEARLY RESULTED IN MORE THAN ONE MULTI-VEHICLE ACCIDENTS. THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGES AND I AM UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL MINUTES THEREAFTER. I WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED ON BOTH OCCASIONS AND HAD NO IDES WHAT WAS WRONG. COME TO FIND OUT, THERE WAS MINIMAL OIL IN THE ENGINE DESPITE BEING DEALER MAINTAINED IN A TIMELY FASHION AND WELL BEFORE THE NEXT OIL CHANGE WAS DUE. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY 2018 JEEP COMPASS IN FOR SERVICING WHERE THEY EXPLAINED THEY HAVE BEEN SEEING THIS ISSUE IN THIS PARTICULAR MODEL WITH THE 2.4 LITER MULTI-AIR 4 CYLINDER ENGINE. THE PCV VALVE WAS REPLACED AND THEY STARTED TO MONITOR OIL USAGE VIA AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST EVERY 500 MILES. UNFORTUNATELY THE PCV VALVE REPLACEMENT DID NOT PROVE TO BE THE FIX AS THE ENGINE MALFUNCTIONED ONCE AGAIN SOMETIME AROUND 2500 MILES INTO THE OIL CHANGE. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND RELY ON THIS VEHICLE TO GET ME TO WORK AS I AM A HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL. I AM SHOCKED THAT A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED AFTER READING ONLINE JUST HOW MANY CASES HAVE BEEN REPORTED WITH THE SAME MAKE/MODEL ENGINE. I AM LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED AND IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS, IF ACTION IS NOT TAKEN. I WAS MERGING ONTO A 4 LANE HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WITH NO SHOULDER THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED. TRAFFIC WAS MOVING AT 65 MILES PER HOUR. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY FRIGHTENING. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND IS A DETRIMENT TO HIGHWAY AND PERSONAL SAFETY. MY SALES ASSOCIATE AT THE DEALERSHIP IS ALSO ALARMED AT JUST HOW MANY 2018 JEEP COMPASS' WITH THE 2.4 LITER ENGINE ARE HAVING THIS UNEQUIVOCAL HAZARDOUS ISSUE. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE ASAP.
FIRST MY RADIO CUTS OUT AT RANDOM TIMES. SECOND, I'VE BEEN NOTICING MY OIL LIGHT COMING ON MANY TIMES. I CONSTANTLY FEEL LIKE I'M PUTTING OIL IN THIS CAR. 3 RD, I WAS PULLING OUT OF A STRIP MALL WHEN MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF. THANKFULLY I WASN'T IN TRAFFIC YET. MANY TIMES WHEN I START MY CAR AND START MOVING MY CAR STALLS. THIS HAS HAPPENED TOO MANY TIME THAT I DON'T FEEL SAFE. EVERY 600-1000 MILES I HAVE TO CHECK THE OIL. IT IS ALWAYS LOW AND I BELIEVE THIS IS THE CAUSE OF THE STALL PROBLEM. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN OCTOBER 2018 BRAND NEW AND HAVE HAD TROUBLE EVER SINCE I HIT 3000 MILES. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!!
A YEAR AGO THE PASSENGER SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM STABILIZER LINK WAS BAD AND THERE WAS A RECALL ON IT SO I GOT IT REPLACED IS FINE A YEAR LATER I HAVE TO HAVE IT REPLACED AGAIN BECAUSE IT'S MAKING ALL KINDS OF NOISE
MY BRAKE ENGAGED YESTERDAY WHILE TRAVELING ON A CITY STREET. I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT. I PUSHED THE GAS TO MAKE MY VEHICLE ACCELERATE WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN. MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. THE BRAKE WAS ENGAGED. AFTER CONFIRMING NOTHING HAD HIT THE BRAKE BUTTON. I PUSHED THE BRAKE RELEASE. THE VEHICLE STILL WOULD NOT GO FORWARD. THERE WERE IMAGES ON THE SCREEN THAT INCLUDE AN A!, ENGINE SYMBOL, ETC. I PUSHED THE BUTTON TO RESTART THE CAR. IT WOULD NOT START. THE BRAKE WAS ENGAGED AGAIN. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN THIS HAPPENS ON A MAJOR STREET DURING PEAK HOURS OF TRAFFIC. DURING ONE OF THE TIMES MY VEHICLE RESPONDED LIKE THIS. THE OIL LIGHT WAS ON. I WENT TO THE CLOSEST FACILITY TO GET MY VEHICLE CHECKED. THEY SAID THERE WAS NO OIL IN MY VEHICLE ON APRIL 17, 2019. I HAD JUST HAD MY OIL CHANGED.
I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT WHEN MY AUTO STOP CAME ON. WHEN I LET OFF THE BRAKE THE CAR DID START BACK UP. I FINALLY GOT IT TO START AFTER A MINUTE. SOON AFTER I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AND THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY INITIATED MY EMERGENCY BRAKE BEFORE I EVEN FULLY STOPPED. ANOTHER ISSUE OCCURRED AFTER STARTING MY CAR UP MY SCREEN WAS FADED OUT AND AFTER DRIVING DOWN THE STREET FOR A MILE OR 2 MY SCREEN WENT COMPLETELY BLACK AND REBOOTED ITSELF.
THE 2018 JEEP COMPASS ENGINES HAVE AN UNRESOLVABLE DEFECT CAUSING THE OIL TO BURN AT AN ACCELERATED RATE. IT IS A DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR ANYONE DRIVING A 2018 JEEP COMPASS. THE VEHICLE REQUIRES SYNTHETIC OIL WHICH WOULD NORMALLY GIVE YOU 5,000 DRIVABLE MILES OR 5 MONTHS BEFORE HAVING TO GET AN OIL CHANGE. AFTER ONLY 2,000 MILES, WHILE DRIVING MY JEEP COMPASS, IT SHUT OFF WITHOUT ANY WARNING. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC ON THE ROAD BECAUSE THE ONLY THING I WAS ABLE TO DO WAS COAST TO THE SHOULDER AND BRAKE. ONLY WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN DID A LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT COME ON. I NEVER WOULD HAVE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IF I KNEW THAT THE CAR WOULD SHUT DOWN WITH NO WARNING. ABSOLUTELY ZERO WARNING...NO OIL WARNING LIGHT, NO MESSAGE, NO SYMBOL, NOTHING. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN LAST WEEK, JUST SHY OF 3 MONTHS AFTER MY LAST OIL CHANGE. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT AFTER THEY CHANGE THE OIL (AGAIN), I WILL HAVE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, DESPITE THE SAFETY ISSUES, FOR ANOTHER 1,000 MILES SO THEY CAN CONDUCT AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. AFTER THAT, THEY WILL NEED TO DO A BORE TEST TO SEE IF THERE IS SCORING IN THE CYLINDERS. I WAS TOLD THAT I WILL MOST LIKELY NEED A NEW ENGINE. I THEN RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND WAS APPALLED AT THE SHEER NUMBER OF PEOPLE THIS IS HAPPENING TO AND DESPITE THE COMPLAINTS, CHRYSLER HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. IN FACT, THEY ARE STILL SELLING THIS CAR TO PEOPLE EVEN WITH A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW. THERE SHOULD BE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL OF ALL 2018 JEEP COMPASSES BEFORE SOMEONE DIES, IF SOMEONE HASN'T ALREADY. I DON'T WANT TO BE A STATISTIC. I AM LUCKY IN THAT BOTH OF THE TIMES MY JEEP SHUT OFF, THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC AROUND ME. I HAVE READ COMPLAINTS BY PEOPLE WHO WERE DRIVING WITH THEIR CHILDREN ON HIGHWAYS WHEN THEIR CARS JUST SHUT OFF. HOW TERRIFYING. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY BY CHRYSLER.*DT THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED. *JS
THE STEERING WHEEL IN THE JEEP COMPASS 2018 LOCKS UP CAUSING THE BRAKES TO NOT WORK AND AS THE DRIVER I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE STEERING DIDN'T HAVE FULL FUNCTIONALIY. THE VEHICLE STALLS, AND BRAKES DON'T WORK PROPERLY. THERE HAVE BEEN TIME WHERE THE CAR RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY IN THE MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY AFTER A SHARP TURN. LOSS OF POWER STEERING COMPOUNDS THE PROBLEM BY MAKING THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO STEER OFF THE ROADWAY OR HIGHWAY AND CAUSED A COLLISION. THE ENGINE HAS ALSO RANDOMLY SHUT UP, AND CAR HAS JOLTED IN THE PAST A FEW TIMES CREATING A MAJOR PROBLEM AND HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES WHILE DRIVING. THERE ARE OVER 1,000 OF COMPLAINTS ON LINE ABOUT THIS VEHICLE, MAKE AND MODEL. THE VEHICLE KEEPS MOVING AND LOSES CONTROL LEAVING THE DRIVE UNABLE TO HAVE CONTROL TO STOP AN ACCIDENT OR DRIVE.*DT CONSUMER STATED I DON'T REMEMBER IT HAPPENED A FEW TIMES, THE EARLIEST I RECOLLECT IS WHEN I WAS BETWEEN 4,000-7,000 MILES. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIE, DEALERSHIP TOLD CONTACT IT IS NORMAL FOR THE CAR TO DO THAT SOMETIMES.*JB
ENGINE EATS OIL WAY TO MUCH AROUND 709 MILES IT WILL START TO ROUGHLY IDLE AND WHEN CHECKING THE OIL LEVELS IT'S 2 QUARTS LOW. I CAN ALSO BE DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE WILL JERK WHEN TRYING TO GET UP TO SPEED THRUSTING ME FORWARD LIKE IT'S HAVING TROUBLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE RANDOMLY SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DOVER DODGE JEEP (396 RT. 46 EAST, ROCKAWAY, NJ) WHO INDICATED THAT NO OIL WAS PRESENT INSIDE THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT FOUR QUARTS OF OIL WERE ADDED TO THE ENGINE APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO ADD ONE QUART OF OIL TO THE ENGINE EVERY 1,000 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
OIL BURNING UP WAY BEFORE OIL CHANGE IS DUE. CAUSED MY CAR TO STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH MY THREE MONTH OLD INFANT IN THE BACK SEAT.*DT THE STALL OCCURRED WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN AT AN INTERSECTION SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 10-15 MPH. MILEAGE WAS ABOUT 12925. WHILE MAKING THE TURN A QUICK CHIME AND OIL PRESSURE LOW CAME ON AND DISAPPEARED AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY STALLED. COME TO FIND OUT THE OIL ON DIPSTICK WAS 1MM. NO WARNINGS ABOUT IT. NOT DUE FOR OIL CHANGE FOR ANOTHER 1600 MILES. *JB
WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN RECALLED. HAD MY JEEP AT THE DEALER YESTERDAY, FOR ANOTHER OIL CHANGE, ABOUT 2000 MILES BEFORE I WAS DUE. THE LAST OIL CHANGE WAS AROUND 9500 MILES. THEY SAID, THERE WAS NO OIL IN MY CAR WHEN HE CHECKED. IT HAS JUST UNDER 13,000 MILES ON IT AND FOR THE SECOND TIME IN 5 DAYS, THE ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. SO I HAVE NOW ALMOST GOTTEN REAR-ENDED TWICE. I HAVE TO DRIFT TO THE SIDE, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, SHUT IT OFF ENTIRELY, THEN RESTART, YESTERDAY IT TOOK 3 TRIES TO GET IT TO RESTART. I WAS TOLD, I NEED TO DRIVE ANOTHER 2000 MILES AND COME BACK SO THEY CAN CHECK MY DIP STICK, WHICH THEY MARKED YESTERDAY. IRONICALLY WHILE I WAS CHECKING OUT, THERE WAS A WOMAN THERE, PICKING UP HER COMPASS FROM THEM AFTER A WEEK, BECAUSE THEY WERE REPLACING HER ENGINE. EARLIER THIS MONTH I WAS TALKING TO A FAMILY FRIEND. HER COMPASS HAD JUST COME BACK FROM THE SAME DEALER, AFTER HAVING THE ENGINE REPLACED FOR THE SAME THING. SO WHY, AM I STILL HAVING TO DRIVE A CAR, WHEN THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE? FROM READING OTHER COMPLAINTS, SOUNDS LIKE SOME HAVE NOT HAD AS EASY OF A PULL OFF AS HAVE AND ARE STUCK IN HARMS WAY WHEN IT HAPPENS TO THEM. IS IT GOING TO TAKE SOMEONE DYING FOR THIS ISSUE TO BECOME A RECALL??
VEHICLE BURNS THROUGH OIL AT A RAPID RATE WITH NO WARNING INDICATORS. ONCE THE OIL REACHES A CRITICAL LEVEL THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN WITH NO WARNING. DEALERSHIP CALLED THIS "LIMP MODE" THIRD OIL CHANGE I CHECKED THE LEVEL FOR SAFETY. 1000 MILES TO GO BEFORE MY NEXT OIL CHANGE AND THE ENGINE IS DOWN 2 QUARTS.
MY SERVICE TRANSMISSION AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF EVERY FEW WEEKS I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL JEEP DEALER THEY TOLD ME MULTIPLE TIMES THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY 2018 COMPASS WHEN I KNOW INDEED IT IS I SMELL COOLANT ALL THE TIME THEY SAY THEY DON'T MY ENGINE AND TRANS LIGHT COMES IN AND OFF THEY HAVE NO CODE I CAUGHT IT ON VIDEO THEY BOTH LIGHTS WERE ON AND I WAS ASKED IF I'D LIKE TO BRING IT BACK IN I SAID YES THE DAY I GO IN OF COURSE THE LIGHTS ARE OFF BUT NOW THEY HAVE A CODE HE SAYS TO ME OH YOUR TRANSMISSION JUST NEEDS TO BE UPDATES BUT THE CODES THAT I GOT BACK STATED THAT IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER
NARRATIVE: IN AUGUST 2019, I WAS DRIVING FROM MY HOME TOWARD THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WHEN MY 2018 JEEP COMPASS LOST POWER. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE SO I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHIFTED INTO PARK. (LUCKILY, I HAD NOT REACHED THE HIGHWAY AND WAS NOT IN DANGER OF BEING REAR-ENDED DUE TO THE SUDDEN LOSS OF ACCELERATION!) I NOTICED THE PARKING BRAKE HAD ENGAGED AND I COULD NOT RELEASE IT. THE LOW OIL LIGHT THEN FLASHED ON. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT, BUT IT WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO DRIVE. THE D BUTTON WAS FLASHING, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO IN GEAR. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON TWICE MORE UNTIL IT FINALLY ALLOWED ME TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE. I ATTEMPTED A K-TURN IN A DRIVEWAY TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO MY HOME, WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AGAIN, THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED AND THE LOW OIL LIGHT REAPPEARED. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND ON AND AGAIN I COULDN'T MOVE. I WAITED FOR 5 MINUTES AND FINALLY WAS ABLE TO RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKE AND SHIFT INTO REVERSE. I SHIFTED TO DRIVE AFTER EXITING THE DRIVEWAY AND AFTER DRIVING 1/8 OF A MILE THE POWER FAILED AGAIN. AFTER WAITING ANOTHER FEW MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME TO PARK IN MY DRIVEWAY AND ASKED MY HUSBAND TO CHECK THE OIL. THE OIL RESERVOIR WAS PRACTICALLY EMPTY! WE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND WE WERE TOLD TO PUT SOME OIL IN IT AND DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A SERVICE APPOINTMENT. COMMENTS: THIS OCCURRENCE PUT ME IN A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION THAT CAUSED ME GREAT ANXIETY. I HATE TO THINK WHAT COULD'VE HAPPENED ON OUR VERY BUSY HIGHWAY THAT I TRAVEL ON FOR MANY MILES DAILY. THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO GIVE THE DRIVER A WARNING BEFORE THE OIL LEVEL IS SO LOW IT STOPS THE VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC! I HAVE READ MANY TESTIMONIALS FROM OTHER JEEP COMPASS OWNERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS JEEP WITH MY FAMILY!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RAMSEY CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (1555 NJ-17, RAMSEY, NJ 07446, (201) 818-9600) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CV BOOTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AGAIN AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS IMPROPERLY TORQUED TO THE SUBFRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THE UNDERCARRIAGE BOLTS WERE TORQUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000. *LN *JB *TT*JB
THE SYSTEM THAT AUTOMATICALLY TURNS OFF THE CAR AT STOPS WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. MOSTLY DOES NOT WORK. MY DISPLAY FOR THE RADIO AND APPS AND SO FORTH DOES NOT WORK AT TIMES AND GOES ALL BLACK. I HAD IT TAKEN IN AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A BATTERY THAT SUPPLIES POWER AND THEY REPLACED IT. IT HAS ONLY BEEN A FEW WEEKS LATER AND IT IS DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. I TOLD THE SERVICE CENTER IT WAS NOT FIXED AND HAVE STILL NOT HEARD BACK FROM THEM. THEY SAY THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH IT. WHEN THE SCREEN GOES BLACK I CANNOT MAKE ANY ADJUSTMENTS TO RADIO, MAPS, AIR FOR HEAT AND COOL AND THE BACK UP CAMERA IS UNAVAILABLE. IS THIS A COMMON ISSUE AND IF SO WHY? IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS?
FIRST OFF. I HAVE A 2018 JEEP COMPASS THAT'S I GOT A FEW WEEKS AGO AND I'M NOTICING NOW THAT MY BRAKES ARE ALREADY TERRIBLY GRINDING, THE ENGINE GETS WAY TOO HOT EVEN THOUGH THE INDICATOR IS ALWAYS NEUTRAL AND NEVER MOVES EVER. ALSO THE MPG IS ABSOLUTE CRAP AND I THINK IT HAS TO DO WITH THE ENGINE SYSTEM ITSELF CAUSING PROBLEMS. I LOST 45 MILES ACCORDING TO THE INDICATOR AND REALLY ONLY WENT 12 MILES BACK FROM WORK. THAT SHOULDN'T BE RIGHT.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 7,398.
JEEP COMPASS IS A SAFETY HAZARD DEATH TRAP; I CANNOT BELIEVE THERE IS NOT A RECALL ON IT! IT LITERALLY BURNS OIL DOWN TO NOTHING & WITH NO WARNING WHATSOEVER THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGES, THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS UP AND IT JUST STOPS, WHILE DRIVING, ON THE ROAD, IN TRAFFIC! OBVIOUSLY IT IS OVER-CONSUMING OIL BECAUSE IT JUST SEIZED UP ON ME WHILE DRIVING & MAKING A TURN IN FRONT OF OTHER CARS AND THE DIPSTICK WAS CLEAR, NOT ONE DROP OF OIL LEFT! MADE SPECIAL TRIPS TO THE DEALER SO THEY COULD TOP OFF THE OIL AFTER 1,500 MILES (THEIR SOLUTION TO THIS KNOWN PROBLEM) AND IT HAPPENED A SECOND TIME AFTER LESS THAN 3,000 MILES, AND ONCE AGAIN WHILE MAKING A TURN I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BECAUSE THE JEEP STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD!!! THE JEEP IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER WHILE THEY "FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG" AND HOW TO HANDLE IT. I WILL TELL YOU HOW TO HANDLE IT, RECALL THEM BEFORE SOMEONE DIES!!! IF I COULD DITCH JEEP/CHRYSLER RIGHT NOW I WOULD, AND AS SOON AS MY LEASE IS UP, I WILL BE GOING BACK TO GM CARS!
WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT AUTO START/STOP TURNED THE CAR OFF AS NORMAL. A FEW MOMENTS LATER THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH AND THE ELECTRONIC EMERGENCY BRAKE TURNED ON. I RELEASED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE TO SEE IF THE CAR WOULD START BACK UP IT WOULD NOT. THE DASH READ OUT IN PARK AND START. I ATTEMPTED HOWEVER CAR WOULD NOT START. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WOULD NOT TURN OFF EITHER. I HAD TO CALL ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE FOR A TOW. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 11,400 MILES. THE CAR IS AT THE DEALERSHIP I AM WAITING ON THEIR INVESTIGATION.
I GOT INTO MY VEHICLE WHEN A PULL OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON A TRIED TO START IT. THE VEHICLE WOULD CRANK BUT NOT START. I ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL IT FINALLY TURNED ON.

AT MY LAST OIL CHANGE THEY SAID THE JEEP IS BURNING OIL LIKE CRAZY WITH NO WARNING ABOUT LOW OIL. IT HAS 13,000 MILES ON IT AND ALSO INTERMITTENTLY SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING,I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND THE PARKING BREAK ENGAGES. THEN RESTART IT, IT ALSO INTERMITTENTLY WON'T START AT ALL. THEN AFTER A FEW HOURS IT WILL START BUT RUNS REALLY ROUGH. ANOTHER ISSUE IS WITH WHAT SOUNDS LIKE THE SUSPENSION IN THE FRONT RIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. IT FEELS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE AS I HAVE TWO YOUNG CHILDREN. THE VEHICLE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF A FREEWAY IN TRAFFIC IN NEW YORK AND IT WAS THE SCARIEST FEW MOMENTS OF MY LIFE. I TOLD THEM WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT THE JEEP COMPASS HAS A PROBLEM WITH OIL EVAPORATING AND THEY WOULD CHANGE THE OIL. THE SERVICE PERSON I TALKED TO SAID HIS WIFE ALSO HAS A JEEP COMPASS AND HE IS TRYING TO CONVINCE HIS WIFE TO TRADE IT IN BECAUSE TO THIS PROBLEM. I AM NOT SURE HOW OIL CAN JUST EVAPORATE. AT THE TIME OF THE OIL CHANGE I HAD DRIVEN ABOUT 3000 TO 3500 MILES SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE MY OIL CHANGED ONE OTHER TIME AROUND 3000 MILES AND WILL HAVE TO HAVE IT CHANGED AGAIN SOON. THE LAST TIME THE OIL WAS VERY LOW AGAIN AND IT GETTING LOW AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP IS CLAIMING THAT IT'S WITH IN CHRYSLER'S SPECS THAT THIS ENGINE (2.4 MULTI-AIR 9 SPEED) CAN BURN 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY THOUSAND MILES. THIS JEEP ONLY HAS 3,043 MILE ON IT. IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR ENGINES TO SHUT OFF WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED IT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS HARM AND POSSIBLE DEATH IN A COLLISION. BOTH OF THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER REFUSED TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. THEY ARE FORCING ME TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST REGARDLESS OF THE SAFETY ISSUES. *DT CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS AND NO CHIME BEFORE, DURING OR AFTER THE VEHICLE STOPPED RUNNING. DEALERSHIP IS ASKING CONSUMER TO BRING VEHICLE IN EVERY 500 FOUR TIMES BEFORE DETERMINING THE AMOUNT OIL THAT THE VEHICLE IS BURNING.*JB

I HAD BROUGHT THE CAR TO YONKERS CHRYSLER JEEP WHICH WAS NEAREST DEALER TO ME AND THEY DID AN OIL CHANGE - SYNTHETIC OIL PUT 6 QUARTS OF OIL IN CAR - THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THERE WAS A VERY LITTLE AMOUNT OF OIL IN CAR. THIS CAR IS A BRAND NEW CAR AND SHOULD NOT BE BURNING OIL IT HAS 5,188 MILES ON IT - THERE IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW IN ENGINE AND ALSO A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I CALLED JEEP HEADQUARTER ON SATURDAY, JUNE 22, 2019 AND SPOKE TO REPRESENTATIVE AND SHE GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER AND TOLD ME SOMEONE WOULD BE CALLING ME BACK ON MONDAY, JUNE 24,2019. IT CAN
THIS HAPPENED THREE TIMES OVER THE PAST TWO WEEKS. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY CAR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND CAR WILL THROW ITSELF IN EMERGENCY BRAKE MODE AND ENGINE WILL TURN OFF. LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL IS GONE AS WELL. HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY LUCKY TO NOT GET IN AN ACCIDENT. DROPPED CAR OFF TO DEALER WHO BLAMED IT ON "LOW OIL." DUE TO "LOW OIL" LEVELS HOWEVER CAR IS ONLY 7 MONTHS OLD AND JUST 4K MILES. HE RECOMMENDED I CHANGE THE OIL EVERY 750 MILES! 750! A STANDARD CAR IS EVERY 5,000 MILES. THE FACT THAT MY OIL CHANGE COULD BE THE DETERMINING FACTOR BETWEEN MY ENGINE TURNING OFF MID DRIVE AND GETTING IN AN ACCIDENT IS ABSURD. WHILE RESEARCHING THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR CASES WITH THE SAME CAR. PEOPLE HAVE GOTTEN IN ACCIDENTS DUE TO THE CAR STALLING ON HIGHWAYS AND INTERSECTIONS. NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. DO NOT RECOMMEND. LEGITIMATELY SCARED TO DRIVE. SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE ROAD!
WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AT 55 MPH ON A PARKWAY, THE MIDDLE DASHBOARD BEGAN RANDOMLY DISPLAYING 'SERVICE NOW' AND 'SERVICE' NEEDED MESSAGES FOR THE HILL-ASSIST AND AUTO-START FEATURES. IT CONTINUED FLASHING OTHER MESSAGES THAT I COULD NOT READ BECAUSE AT THE SAME TIME, MY STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY LOCKED UP. IT WOULD NOT TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. I HAD TROUBLE APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES. THIS WAS AN EXTREMELY TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE BECAUSE, AS MENTIONED, I WAS MOVING QUICKLY ON A PARKWAY WITH OTHER CARS AROUND AND AN INABILITY TO CONTROL OR EASILY SLOW DOWN MY VEHICLE.
COMPUTER MESSAGE IN THE CAR INFORMATION SCREEN STATED SHIFTER SERVICE AS I WAS TURNING ON THE CAR. CURRENTLY THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL ON THIS ITEM BUT ACCORDING TO THE RESEARCH THERE NEEDS TO BE ON SET UP. EVERYTIME I ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE THERE IS A DELAY ALSO UPON BRAKING JUST A TIP JERKS THE WHOLE VEHICLE.
I PURCHASED THE COMPASS BRAND NEW AND HAVE ONLY 4,600 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. WHEN I WAS PULLING UP TO A STOP SIGN AT A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION, THE "LOW OIL PRESSURE" LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WOULD NOT MOVE. DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THIS IS "HOW THE ENGINE IS DESIGNED TO FUNCTION" AND RESOLVED WITH AN OIL CHANGE. THE OIL SHOULD NOT BE SO LOW THAT ENGINE CUTS OFF. ALSO, THIS "SAFETY FEATURE" IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS AS IT GIVES NO WARNING AND CUTS OUT WHILE DRIVING. THIS NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED!!
HAVING ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH SOUND SYSTEM SHUTTING OFF AND NOT COMING BACK ON, ALSO TOOK CAR IN FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD MY CAR HAD VERY LITTLE OIL ALMOST OUT AND NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AT ALL AND IT WASN'T EVEN TIME FOR MY OIL CHANGE, I WAS EARLY. AND NOW MY START/STOP LIGHT CAME ON AND DEALER STATES NO PROBLEM IT JUST WANT WORK PROPERLY.. GAS MILEAGE IS HORRIBLE AND I HAVE TO HAVE OIL CHANGED AND CHECKED MORE OFTEN DUE TO KNOWN ONGOING ISSUES WITH THIS MODEL. I HAVE ONLY 17K ON MY VEHICLE AND PROBLEM AFTER PROBLEM. DONT BUY JEEP COMPASS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP COMPASS. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO EASTCHESTER CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (718-547-5500, LOCATED AT 4007 BOSTON RD, BRONX, NY 10466) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. A LOANER VEHICLE WAS NOT PROVIDED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED TO GET A RENTAL VEHICLE FOR TWO DAYS AND THE DEALER WOULD REIMBURSE HIM. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER WAS AT A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT'S WIFE WAS SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND STRUCK HER HEAD ON THE DASHBOARD. THE SEAT BELT DID NOT RESTRAIN HER PROPERLY AND SHE SUSTAINED A CONCUSSION. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A BACK INJURY. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER WERE TAKEN TO THE EMERGENCY CENTER FOR MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED, BUT WAS NOT TOWED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND SENT SOMEONE TO INVESTIGATE. THE INVESTIGATOR STATED THAT THE SEAT BELT PERFORMED AS EXPECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 19,000.
PASSENGER BACKSEAT SEATBELT BUCKLE, INSIDE BROKE APART AND IS UNABLE TO RECEIVE THE TONGUE. CAR WAS STATIONARY. DAUGHTER WAS UNABLE TO BUCKLE HERSELF IN SEAT.
THE 2.4 ENGINE IN THE 2018 COMPASS IS USING OIL AT A VERY HIGH RATE. IN THE FIRST 3200 MILES OUR JEEP USED 3.5 QUARTS OF OIL. THE OIL GOT SO LOW THAT THE CAR STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY ON MY WIFE. THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE, YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THE OIL GET LOW AND THE CAR STALLS. I HAVE FOLLOWED UP WITH THE DEALER WHO REFERRED ME TO CHRYSLER CUSTOMER CARE. I SPOKE WITH A PERSON THERE WHO ADVISED THAT A QUART OF OIL IN A 1000 MILES WAS ACCEPTABLE. I ADVIES HER THAT A NEW CAR SHOULD NOT BE USING ANY OIL. CHRYSLER KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE 2.4 ENGINE AND THEIR ANSWER IS " WE WILL PUT YOU ON A OIL CHANGE PROGRAM"> I AM NOT THE ONLY OWNER THAT IS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE JEEP COMPASS, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS GOOGLE JEEP COMPASS 2.4 ENGINE OIL PROBLEM. THE LONG AND THE SHORT OF THIS IS, THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE 2.4 ENGINE, CHRYSLER KNOWS IT AND WILL NOT RECALL IT. THE CAR IS UNSAFE BECAUSE IT WILL STOP RUNNING AT ANYTIME OR ANYPLACE WHEN THE OIL GET LOW. MY WIFE WAS NEARLY BROADSIDE BECAUSE THE CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF A TRAVEL LANE. WHEN SHE GOT THE CAR RUNNING AGAIN IT STOPPED SEVERAL MORE TIME BEFORE WE WERE MADE AWARE OF THE OIL PROBLEM. THIS CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED DUE TO THE ENGINE PROBLEM. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO KEEP ADDING OIL TO A $30K PLUS VEHICLE. RECALL IT BEFORE SOME ONE GET KILLED.
