REAR VIEW CAMERA FAILS. WHEN PUT IN REVERSE SCREEN GOES BLACK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE FAILED AND CAUSED THE BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WESTSTAR AUTOPLEX (401-403 INTERSTATE 20 FRONTAGE RD, MONOHANS, TX 79756) WHERE AN UNKNOWN MODULE WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BLAKE FULENWIDER DODGE (1310 E MAIN ST, EASTLAND, TX 76448) WHERE THEY REPLACED THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LATCH, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000.
HAS THE CAR 38 DAYS AND IT STALLED ON ME IN TRAFFIC: WOULDN'T SHIFT GEARS AND STATED THAT PARKING BRAKE WAS ENGAGED. HAD IT TOWED. BAD TCM. WAITED 3 WEEKS FOR PART. REPLACED. PICKED UP 4 WEEKS LATER AND HAD IT FOR TWO DAYS AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE IN TRAFFIC. HAD IT TOWED AGAIN. TWICE MY LIFE HAS BEEN PUT IN DANGER. I WAS IN MOTION TWICE AT 50MPH WHEN IT JUST ENGAGED THE PARKING BREAK AND SHUT DOWN ENTIRELY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT, TRACK LIGHT, EVERY LIGHT YOU CAN THINK OF CAME ON AND THE CAR TOTALLY SHUT DOWN, WOULD NOT RESTART, WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS FOR TOW TRUCK, NOTHING. HAPPENED TWICE. 6/8/2018 AND 7/7/2018
FRONT END COLLISION WITH 2 DEER, OVER 50 MPH, NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. MID-HOOD AROUND TO PASSENGER FRONT FENDER ALL DAMAGED.
STEERING WHEEL WAS MAKING A POPPING NOISE WHEN TURNING. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE A BOLT AND WASHER FELL ONTO THE FLOOR LANDING RIGHT NEXT TO MY FOOT. TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT IT WAS A STEERING COLUMN BOLT THAT HAD FELL OUT. THE DEALERSHIP REINSTALLED THE BOLTS AND HAD TO RE-TORQUE THE REST OF THE STEERING COLUMN BOLTS.
I HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR WHEN IT WAS JERKING WHILE I WAS DRIVING. FINALLY THE SHOP FOUND THE PROBLEM VALVE STICKING. THEY REPLACE IT.
THE ENGINE BEGINS SMOKING DUE TO THE FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION COOLERS. METAL SHAVINGS WERE FOUND IN TRANSMISSION FLUIDS, WITH A POOR EXPLANATION AS TO THEIR SOURCE OR THE CAUSE. TECHNICIANS WERE ONLY ABLE TO EXPLAIN THAT THE METAL OF THE COOLER ITSELF WAS DETERIORATING. THE TRANSMISSION COOLER WAS REPLACED.
I HAVE A HUMMING NOISE BETWEEN 30 - 40 MPH. I TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER AT 700 MILES ON NEW JEEP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IS NORMAL. THAT IS THE MUFFLER SYSTEM. NOW IT SEEMS LIKE IT IS HUMMING LOUDER AND WHEN I TURN SOME CORNERS THERE IS A SMALL CLUNKNOISE. I MENTIONED IT TO DEALER AND STILL TOLD NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. EVERYONE THAT RIDES WITH ME ASKS ME WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY CAR.
I AM REQUESTING FIAT CHRYSLER AUTO REPAIR ALL AIRBAGS THAT WERE DEPLOYED INCLUDING DASH AND SEAT BELTS. IN ADDITION THEIR WAS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL ON THE PASSENGER AIRBAG MODULE, WHICH IS ONE OF THE AIRBAGS THAT DEPLOYED. FIAT CHRYSLER AUTO HAS FAILED TO TAKE ANY ACCOUNTABILITY. AFTER PURCHASING A 2018 JEEP COMPASS TRAIL HAWK, TRAIL RATED VEHICLE, IN WHICH THREE AIRBAGS HAD BEEN DEPLOYED PRIOR TO PURCHASE, I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND BEING THAT THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENT, HE COULD NOT DETERMINE HOW THREE AIRBAGS COULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE FRAME OR ORIGINAL RADIATOR. AS A RESULT, I CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND ASKED THAT AN INSPECTION BE COMPLETED TO EXAMINE WHY THREE AIRBAGS WERE DEPLOYED ESPECIALLY SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON 1/24/2018, FOR A RECALL ON THE PASSENGER AIRBAG MODULE,RECALL T73/NHTSA 17V-732, WHICH JUST HAPPENS TO BE ONE OF THE THREE AIRBAGS LATER DEPLOYED. I DELIVERED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ON AUGUST 10, 2018 FOR AN INSPECTION APPOINTMENT, SCHEDULED FOR 8AM THE NEXT MORNING. BILL COMPLETED HIS INSPECTION WITHIN A FEW HOURS AND CALLED ME TO LET ME KNOW THAT THE INFORMATION HAD BEEN FORWARDED TO DETROIT. I RECEIVED A ONE PAGE FACTORY STOCKED LETTER EMAILED FROM FCA TAKING NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEPLOYMENT OF THREE AIRBAGS AND NO EXPLANATION. THE LETTER WQS NOT EVEN SIGNED BY A HUMAN BEING AND LACKED ANY ACCOUNTABILITY, AND EVEN FAILED TO ADDRESS THE RECALL ON THE PASSENGER AIRBAG MODULE, T73/NHTSA 17V-732, AS A POSSIBLE MALFUNCTION. THE LETTER IS CLEARLY CRAFTED TO AVOID ACCOUNTABILITY. I AM DEMANDING THAT FCA'S EXECUTIVE TEAM IMMEDIATELY LOOK INTO THIS MATTER AND TAKE FULL ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THE REPAIR OF THE DAMAGED CAUSE BY THE DEPLOYMENT OF 3 AIRBAGS.
I BOUGHT MY JEEP COMPASS 2018 IN APRIL OF 2018. WHEN I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO DRIVE IT AT NIGHT I REALIZED THE TOUCH SCREEN AND INSTRUMENT PANEL DID NOT DIM WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS CAME ON AS IT SAYS THAT IT WILL DO. IT MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE AT NIGHT WITH HOW BRIGHT THE DISPLAYS ARE. *TT *TR
THESE ENGINE IS USING UP ALL THE OIL EVERY 1000 MILES
I WAS DRIVING ON A COUNTY ROAD AND THE MESSAGE "SERVICE HILL ASSIST" CAME ON THE SCREEN. I KEPT DRIVING AND THE MESSAGES "SERVICE ESC" AND "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" CAME ON THE SCREEN. THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT, THE SCREEN FOR THE RADIO KEPT FLASHING ON AND OFF, AND I COULD NOT TURN THE ENGINE OFF WITH THE PUSH BUTTON IGNITION. THIS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES AS I WAS TRYING TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON, AND I EVENTUALLY GOT THE VEHICLE HOME. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH IMMEDIATELY BY JEEP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE SWERVED TOWARDS THE CONTACT'S LANE. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT IT FAILED TO ENGAGE. AS A RESULT, THE OTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. A WHITE SUBSTANCE ENTERED THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THE CRASH OCCURRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED WHIPLASH, UPPER AND LOWER BACK PAINS, AND SHOULDER AND NECK PAINS. MEDICAL TREATMENT WAS RECEIVED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V523000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC), BUT THE CONTACT DID NOT RECEIVE A NOTIFICATION. THE DEALER (MOSS BROTHERS CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM, 1100 S E ST, SAN BERNARDINO, CA 92408, (909) 884-8255) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE CRASH AND STATED THAT THEY DID NOT INSPECT COLLISION DAMAGES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED OF THE CRASH AND HAD NOT YET DIAGNOSED THE COLLISION DAMAGES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SECOND DEALER (VICTORVILLE MOTORS, 14617 CIVIC DR, VICTORVILLE, CA 92394, (760) 733-8484) FOR OVER A MONTH WHILE WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER RESPONDED BY EMAIL, WHICH INDICATED THAT THEY WOULD SEND A TECHNICIAN TO THE DEALER TO INSPECT AND DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2. *DT UPDATED 10/19/18*JB
ON FRIDAY MARCH 30 2018, VEHICLE HAD 6000 MILES AND WOULD NOT START. EXTREME AMOUNT OF STEAM WAS COMING OUT OF THE EXHAUST. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. INTERNAL ENGINE ISSUE (NOT CLEARLY IDENTIFIED) CAUSED THE ENGINE TO INTERNALLY EXPLODE LEAVING METAL FRAGMENTS ALL OVER THE INSIDE OF THE ENGINE. THE ENTIRE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION THE VEHICLE WAS MISSING A BOLT IN A BAR IN THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH HAS BEEN ON ORDER FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. THE UNDERCARRIAGE BAR WAS AN ISSUE KNOWN PREVIOUSLY.
VEHICLE LEASED NEW BEGAN TO HAVE GRUMBLING, LOAD HUMMING NOISE COMING FROM TRANSMISSION AT 37MPH. TOOK TEST DRIVE IN ANOTHER VEHICLE SAME NOISE. JEEP SAID KNOWN ISSUE WAITING FOR UPDATE. TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER UPDATED TRANSMISSION AND DRIVE LINE MODULE. NOISE STILL THERE, IF VECHILE PLACED IN 4X4 OR ESC TURNED OFF NOISE WILL DISAPPEAR. NOISE SOUNDS LIKE IT CAN BE DRIVELINE OR TRANSMISSION NOT IN RIGHT GEAR. CAR IS NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY AND RPM GOES HIGH. VEHICLE HAS STALLED OUT A FEW TIMES FOR NO REASON CAR WAS STATIONARY WITH FOOT ON BRAKE AND THE AUTO START OFF DISABLED. HEATED STEERING WHEEL AND SEATS GET EXTREMELY HOT. SHUT DOWN ON THERE OWN AT TIMES FOR NO REASON. POOR GAS MILEAGE IS RELATED TO ENGINE, TRANSMISSION AND DRIVELINE PROBLEMS
When I drive the car jerks and often speeds up or slows down on its own, it hesitates and sometimes I am afraid some one will hit me from behind
WHEN COMING TO STOPS AT DIFFERENT TIMES THE PARKING BRAKE AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGES AND CAR WILL NOT MOVE UNTIL DISENGAGED. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT STOP LIGHTS AND OTHER TIMES AS I AM COMING TO A STOP.
ALL 24 WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP ON 3-4 OCCASIONS . TOWED TO DEALER ON 3 SEPARATE TRIPS. DEALER HAS NOT OFFERED ANOTHER CAR YET. I WAS DRIVING AND THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR STOPPED AND I COULD NOT GET IT STARTED BACK , SO I HAD IT TOWED.
TAKATA RECALL. I RECEIVED A NOTICE IN THE MAIL ABOUT THE RECALL, THIS WAS BACK IN DECEMBER 2017. I'VE CALLED THE FCA AND THEY REDIRECTED ME TO MY DEALERSHIP, BUT NEITHER HAVE CALLED BACK OR NOTIFIED ME ABOUT SCHEDULING AN APPOINTMENT TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. I CALLED A FEW TIMES AND I'M ALWAYS TOLD THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE, HOWEVER I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN NOVEMBER 2017. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO USE THE PASSENGER SEAT FOR ALL THIS TIME AND IT IS A HUGE INCONVENIENCE AND IT IS VERY IRRITATING THAT THIS HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE USING MY CAR KNOWING THERE IS A RECALL ON THE AIRBAG. THE DEALERSHIP IS NAPLETON'S NORTHWESTERN CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM IN CHICAGO. I AM TOLD THAT IS THE ONLY PLACE I CAN GO TO GET THIS RESOLVED. YET NO CALL BACK!!!!!
WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 30-50MPH IN INCLEMENT WEATHER THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM ATTEMPTS TO ENGAGE THE REAR AXLE FOR ADDITIONAL TRACTION. WHEN THIS OCCURS THERE IS A INTERMITTENT BANGING NOISE THAT EMITS FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE AND A BAD VIBRATION THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THIS AS A "OVER MODULATION" OF THE REAR AXLE WHICH CAUSES A BINDING OF THE DRIVESHAFT. THE SOUND WAS EXPLAINED AS THE DRIVESHAFT IS FLEXING IN THE CARRIER BEARING AND STRIKING THE EXHAUST WHEN THIS BINDING OCCURS WHICH HAS CAUSED MARKS TO APPEAR ON THE EXHAUST AND DRIVE SHAFT.. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER THIS WAS A 4 WHEEL DRIVE MODULE ISSUE AND THERE WAS NO KNOWN TIME WHEN A REPAIR WOULD BE AVAILABLE HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. 3 DAYS AFTER THE DIAGNOSES WHICH WAS THE SECOND TRIP TO THE DEALER FOR THE ISSUE THE REAR WHEELS LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SKID OUT OF CONTROL. THIS OCCURRED WHILE GOING AROUND A TURN AT APPROXIMATELY 40MPH ON A WET 2 LANE HIGHWAY WITH NEITHER THE BRAKE OR ACCELERATOR APPLIED AT THE TIME. I FEAR THAT THE ISSUE CAUSES A SAFETY HAZARD TO ANYONE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR THE REAR WHEELS TO LOCK UP AT ANY TIME. THE DEALER HAS REPORTED TO ME THAT A SECOND VEHICLE OF THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL HAS HAD THE SAME ISSUE DAYS AFTER MINE OCCURRED. *TT *TR
I JUST LEASED A BRAND NEW JEEP COMPASS. AT ABOUT 178 MILES, I FILLED UP MY GAS TANK FOR THE FIRST TIME. AFTER LEAVING THE GAS STATION, MY CAR STALLED ABOUT .2 MILES DOWN THE ROAD WHILE GOING ABOUT 10MPH. THE MESSAGE ON THE DASH STATES TO SHIFT INTO PARK AND THEN INTO THE DESIRED GEAR, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER.FROM THERE, THE ENGINE WOULD START AND I COULD DRIVE, BUT ONLY FOR A FEW SECONDS BEFORE THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AGAIN AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR CAUSING THE ISSUE, BUT I HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL I FILLED UP MY GAS TANK. I FEAR THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, OR ON A BUSY ROAD.
VEHICLE TRANSMISSION WOULD JERK OR BUMP HARD ENOUGH FOR SEAT BELT TENSION SYSTEM TO JERK YOU INTO THE SEAT. WOULD MOSTLY HAPPEN AT A CONSTANT 30 MPH OR LOWER SUCH AS A SCHOOL ZONE. ALTHOUGH WOULD ALSO HAPPEN AT HIGHER SPEEDS ON ACCELERATION SUCH AS ON RAMP OR PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE. AFTER A FEW WEEKS OF THIS AND AFTER A TOUCH SCREEN SAFETY UPDATE TO KEEP THE DISPLAY FROM FLASHING FULL BRIGHTNESS AT NIGHT, THE VEHICLE WAS SLOWING DOWN TO TURN INTO PRIVATE ENTRY OF WORK (GATE THAT REQUIRES RFID BADGE) AND SHUT OFF COMPLETELY IN MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT WARNING. VEHICLES HAD TO SWERVE OUT OF THE WAY TO MISS FROM HITTING US AT ONLY 3500 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. LUCKY WE WERE ONLY DOING AROUND 20 MILES AN HOUR AND HAD OUR BLINKER ON. THE TECH THAT TOOK 22 DAYS TO WORK ON THE MOTOR OF THE VEHICLE AND TOLD US THE MOTOR TURNED IT SELF OFF AFTER THE VEHICLE OIL PRESSURE DROPPED TO 5 PSI DUE TO A PLASTIC PART IN ENGINE CLOGGING. I ASKED WHY THE LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON AND HE SAID IT IS NOT DESIGNED TO COME ON UNTIL 3 PSI AND IT WILL NEVER SHOW CAUSE THE ENGINE IS SUPPOSE TO TURN OFF FIRST. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE YOU HAVE A VEHICLE THAT CAN TURN OFF WITHOUT WARNING ON LOW OIL LEVEL OR LOW OIL PSI. ON NEARLY ANY OTHER VEHICLE ON THE MARKET IF YOU HAVE AN 18 WHEELER COMING UP BEHIND YOU AT HIGH SPEED AND GOING TO HIT YOU AND YOU HEAR A DING AND SEE YOU HAVE LOW OIL YOU CAN SPEED UP AND GET TO A SAFE DISTANCE TO PULL OVER OR PULL OVER RIGHT THEN AND TURN OFF THE MOTOR TO KEEP FROM MESSING IT UP. JEEP HAS DECIDED THAT THEIR MOTOR IS WORTH MORE THEN THE LIFE OF THE PEOPLE DRIVING THEM. YOU SHOULD HAVE A CHOICE FOR WHEN THE VEHICLE TURNS ITSELF OFF IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT SAFELY AND TO BE ABLE TO MAKE INFORMED CHOICES. YOU HAVE LOW BATTERY ALERT LOW FUEL ALERT TO LET YOU KNOW WHEN IT MAKE TURN OFF AND WHY BUT THEY DESIGNED IT TO TURN OFF WITHOUT ALERTS
THE AUTO START STOP HAS MALFUNCTIONED SO MANY TIMES NOW I'VE LOST COUNT. I'VE HAD THE JEEP FOR 6 MONTHS. IT STARTED THE FIRST WEEK. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND GOES OFF AND THE START/STOP ISSUE LIGHT DOES THE SAME. I'VE HAD IT IN AND THEY JUST CLEAR THE ERROR MESSAGES AND SEND ME ON MY WAY. VERY FRUSTRATING! THE ENGINE HAS TURNED OFF COMPLETELY AND HAD DIFFICULTY COMING BACK ON MULTIPLE TIMES AT STOP SIGNS AND STOP LIGHTS!
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, I HAVE HAD THE RADIO SHUT OFF MULTIPLE TIMES, THE STOP/START FEATURE KEEPS THROWING ERRORS, MY TEMP GAUGES HAVE WENT HAYWIRE, AND THE BLOWER MOTOR HAS SHORTED OUT AND COOLENT HAS LEAKED OUT CAUSING THE MOTOR TO OVER HEAT. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE A TIRE WITH LESS THAT 10,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. IT HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP 7 TIMES FOR A TOTAL OF 26 DAYS, 1 TIME BEING TOWED. ALSO HAVE HAD 4 TRIM PIECES REPLACED. ONE PIECE IS STILL ON BACK ORDER FROM 6 MONTHS AGO. ONE PIECE IS FINE AND THE OTHER 2 HAVE ALREADY POPPED OFF. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR ONLY 11 MONTHS. THE FIRST ISSUE STARTED WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 1404 MILES ON IT AND HAS HAD SERIOUS ISSUES WITH IN THE LAST 5 MONTHS. VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 11,400 MILES ON IT.
VEHICLE WOULD NOT START - ERROR MESSAGE PARKING BREAK ENGAGED. PUSH GAS PEDAL AND RELEASE BRAKE. THESE OPERATIONS WERE PERFORMED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD STILL NOT START. IT TOOK SEVERAL MINUTES AND ATTEMPTS TO FINALLY GET THE VEHICLE TO START. THIS IS NOT SAFE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE.
IT MAKES A HUMMING NOISE AND IT SOUNDS LIKE WHEN YOU ARE SLOWING DOWN IT'S ALMOST LIKE IT'S SHIFTING DOWN. BEEN DOING SINCE I PICKED IT UP FROM THE DEALER ON 01/19/2018. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THAT HUMMING NOISE AND WHERE IS IT COMING FROM SHOULD I BE CONCERNED WITH THE TRANSMISSION? IT HAPPENS AROUND 25 AND HIGHER SPEED.
*Quick synopsis: FCA/Stellantis Falsely fixing Airbag Recall and not wanting to fix the issue* I am writing in hopes that I can help shed some light on an ongoing issue with a major automotive manufacturer that jeopardizes the safety of millions of American citizens. I am a current customer of Stellantis Automobile Company better known as the Former Fiat Chrysler Automotive (FCA). I experienced a common yet serious issue that is being hidden from many who are still in danger of a life threatening Airbag failure. The company seems to have issue with falsifying shop notes on the recall T73: Passenger Air bag module recall. (I experienced this with a Jeep) The databases in which the company uses stated that my recall had been “inspected” and crossed off as if completed. This was not done correctly. The recall specifically states for a replacement (documentation of proof available). I was passed around and no one could fix the problem due to the “status” being in the system. Multiple dealership shops could not fix the issue (even the place of purchase). I tried to go higher in the chain of command in the company but due to the size of this corporation, I spent weeks trying to find a resolution with no answer. (I finally had to alert the Michigan Attorney General’s office of the incident) This finally got the attention that was needed to get their Stellantis Special Investigation unit(which is their legal department per say) to respond but still took weeks of bouncing back and forth to get someone to change the system and order the part needed. During this time, I attempted to gain legal counsel on the issue but unfortunately money talks and mine was not enough to warrant any interest. After upwards of 3 months of red tape and passing of blame I finally received a replacement. My story may be an exception to the rule, but I would like to make this public as many drivers may not be aware that their vehicles are affected by this issue and are in danger.
THE WINDSHIELD WIPER STALK COMPLETELY BROKE APART AND FELL OFF. THE REAR WIPER CONTINUED TO MOVE AND COULD NOT BE TURNED OFF AND THE FRONT WIPERS COULD NOT BE TURNED ON. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM WOULD NOT DEACTIVATE CAUSING THE DRIVER TO CRASH INTO A TREE STUMP. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED, NO POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE ODOR OF COOLANT WAS ALSO PRESENT INSIDE THE VEHICLE CAUSING THE DRIVER TO BECOME ILL. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER CONTEMPORARY JEEP LOCATED AT 30 HAMMOND RD, MILFORD, NH 03055 AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving 40-50 MPH, the check engine warning light, the brake warning light, and other unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle inadvertently stalled and lost motive power. The contact was unable to veer to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that no issues were found. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving. INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS WILL NOT DIM ON AUTOMATIC LIGHTS SETTING OR WHEN DISPLAY LIGHTS HAVE BEEN ON FOR LONGER THEN 8 SECONDS. THE DASH LIGHTS AND STEREO LIGHTS ARE TOO BRIGHT TO DRIVE AT NIGHT. HAVE TO STOP CAR, TURN OFF CAR ALONG WITH TURNING OFF ALL LIGHT SWITCHES. HAVE TO WAIT FOR AT LEAST A MINUTE THEN CAN START THE CAR AND ADJUST THE BRIGHTNESS BEFORE HAS BEEN ON FOR 8 SECONDS. WHEN ON INTERSTATE THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DO. NEED TO BE ABLE TO DISPLAY DASH AND SHOULD WORK AUTOMATICALLY. DOESN'T MATTER WHETHER PARKED OR MOVING. LIGHTS WILL NOT WORK ON THE AUTOMATIC SETTING. VEHICLE UNINTENTIONALLY 'REMOTE' STARTED IN MY CLOSED GARAGE. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY.THERE IS NO OPTION, EITHER BY SOFTWARE INTERFACE OR MECHANICAL MEANS TO DISABLE THE 'REMOTE START' FEATURE. I SUSPECT THE KEY FOB WAS INADVERTENTLY PRESSED WHILE IN MY PANTS POCKET. I AM AWARE THAT THE REMOTE START FUNCTION TIMES OUT & THE ENGINE STOPS AFTER 15 MIN BUT IN A CLOSED GARAGE THE CARBON MONOXIDE LEVELS COULD BECOME HAZARDOUS. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2018 JEEP COMPASS FROM METRO CHRYSLER JEEP RAM DODGE DEALERSHIP. UPON RESEARCH THE VEHICLE, I LEARNED ABOUT A RECALL ON SOME 2018 MODELS FOR THE PASSENGER AIRBAG MODULE WITH LOOSE FASTENERS. THERE IS CONCERN THAT IN THE EVENT OF AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT, THESE LOOSE FASTENERS COULD BECOME DISLODGED AND IMPALE PASSENGERS. BECAUSE OF THIS RECALL, THERE IS A FEDERAL STOP SALE ORDER ON ALL AFFECTED VIN #S. BEFORE I DEPOSITED ON THIS VEHICLE ON 11/24/17, I SPECIFICALLY ASKED SALESMAN IF THIS VEHICLE HAS THE RECALL. I WAS TOLD IT DID NOT. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 11/29/17 TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE AND PAID IN FULL. ON 11/30/17, ANOTHER SALESMAN CALLED ME AND SAID THIS VEHICLE IS ON THE RECALL LIST. HE THEN TOLD ME HE WANTED TO SEND A RUNNER TO MY HOUSE TO HAVE ME RESIGN MY SALE PAPERWORK WITH DIFFERENT DATES ON IT. THIS WAS ASKING ME TO SIGN FALSIFIED/FRAUDULENT DOCUMENTS TO PREVENT THEM FROM LIABILITY FOR VIOLATING THE FEDERAL STOP SELL ORDER. I SAID THAT I WOULD NOT RESIGN ANY DOCUMENTS. I ALSO LEARNED THAT METRO HAS NOT REPORTED MY CAR AS SOLD TO JEEP. THE GENERAL MANAGER TOLD ME HE "CAN'T REPORT IT" AS SOLD. I FEEL THAT THEY CAN REPORT IT, BUT THEY AREN'T TO PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM FINES, ETC. FURTHERMORE, SINCE MY CAR HAS NOT BEEN REPORTED AS SOLD, THERE ARE NUMEROUS OBSTACLES AROUND GETTING THE RECALL PERFORMED ON MY CAR. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEY WOULD HAVE TO REMOVE THE RECALLED PART FROM MY CAR AND SHIP IT BACK TO CHRYSLER FOR INSPECTION. CHRYSLER WOULD THEN EITHER SEND A NEW REPLACEMENT PART OR RETURN THE EXISTING PART IF IT WAS DEEMED TO BE SAFE TO BE REINSTALLED IN MY VEHICLE. THE MANAGER STATED THEY WOULD PROVIDE ME A RENTAL CAR DURING THIS PERIOD. HOWEVER THE TIME FOR WHICH THEY WOULD NEED TO KEEP MY CAR SEEMED UNCLEAR AND OPEN-ENDED. OVERALL THIS ENTIRE PROCESS IN UNACCEPTABLE TO ME.

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DOES NOT ADJUST TO COMPENSATE FROM DAYLIGHT TO DARKNESS. VEHICLE DOES NOT SEEM TO RECOGNIZE THAT THE HEADLIGHTS ARE ON. THE OPTION TO ADJUST BRIGHTNESS, WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON, IS NOT AVAILABLE DUE TO VEHICLE'S INABILITY TO RECOGNIZE THAT THE HEADLIGHTS ARE ON. REAR VIEW CAMERA IS EXTREMELY BRIGHT AT NIGHT, AFFECTING THE ABILITY TO RECOGNIZE PROBABLE HAZARDS IN ROADWAY. DUE TO THIS BRIGHTNESS, THE EYES TAKE TIME TO READJUST TO THE DARK ENVIRONMENT WHEN VEHICLE IS PUT BACK IN DRIVE. THESE ISSUES OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND STATIONARY.
PROBLEM RELATES TO 2018 JEEP COMPASS LATITUDE. WHEN VEHICLE IS PLACED IN REVERSE, THE 8.4" UCONNECT SCREEN SHOWS THE BACKUP CAMERA AT FULL BRIGHTNESS. THIS IS BLINDING AND MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE WHEN BACKING UP. THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THERE IS NO WAY TO ADJUST THIS. EVEN WHEN THE GAUGES AND SCREEN ARE DIM FROM NORMAL DRIVING, AS SOON AS REVERSE GEAR IS SELECTED, THE SCREEN JUMPS TO FULL BRIGHTNESS.
WHEN I ADJUST THE FORWARD COLLISION PREFERENCES SETTINGS IT SHOW ME "SELECTED" AND I CAN BACK TO THE MAIN MENU AND COME BACK AGAIN TO THIS OPTION TO CHECK AND CONTINUES SELECTED, BUT WHEN THE ECU SLEEPS (TURN OFF THE VEHICLE) AND I TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON AFTER 30 SECONDS THE FORWARD COLLISION PREFERENCES ARE SHOWED SET IN THE DEFAULT VALUES, MY CUSTOM VALUES ARE NOT SAVED, SO IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO TRUST THIS SECURITY FUNCTION. ALSO AT THE TIME OF STARTING THE ADVANCE IN THE MORNING, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COLD BY THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE, THE FRONT BRAKES PRODUCE A LOUD NOISE WHEN BRAKING GENTLY, AS WHEN THE ABS IS ACTIVATED DURING A SUDDEN BRAKING, BUT AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF NORMAL DRIVING AND BRAKING THIS STOP HAPPENING.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, AT TIMES, MAKES A CLUNKING NOISE SHIFTING FROM 4TH TO 5TH GEAR. NOTED TIMES ARE WHEN CRESTING A HILL (STAYS IN 4TH GEAR AT HIGHER RPM'S UNTIL CAR LEVELS OUT OVER THE HILL) AND ALSO WHEN CRUISING AT LOW SPEED (30-35MPH) WHEN RPM'S ARE LOW. ALL OTHER GEAR SHIFTS ARE SMOOTH. I HAVE HAD IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE AND IT HAS BEEN CHECKED FOR UPGRADES VIA COMPUTER. ONE UPGRADE WAS MADE BUT DID NOT CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT ANOTHER 2018 JEEP COMPASS WAS TAKEN FOR A TEST DRIVE AND IT DID THE SAME THING, GIVING THE IMPRESSION THAT 'THAT IS HOW IT IS.' THIS IS NONSENSE AND SHOULD NOT HAPPEN WITH STANDARD DRIVING PRACTICES.

THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH IS INOPERABLE. THE SPEEDOMETER, AND ENTIRE GAUGE CLUSTER, IS STUCK ON FULL BRIGHTNESS DURING NIGHTTIME DRIVING AND IS VERY DANGEROUS AS IT IS BLINDINGLY BRIGHT IN MY FACE.
THE INTERIOR INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE LIGHTING WILL NOT DIM AT NIGHT. THIS LEADS TO A BLINDING SITUATION. THE DIMMER SWITCH FUNCTIONS ONLY INTERMITTENTLY BUT THE IP LIGHTS WILL GO FULL BRIGHT AFTER A SHORT WHILE AFTER A VEHICLE RESTART. THIS OCCURS WHETHER OR NOT THE CAR IS MOVING OR PARKED. HEADLIGHTS ARE SWITCHED ON TO AUTO. THE LIGHTS BEHAVE THIS WAY DAY OR NIGHT. APPEARS TO BE A SENSOR ISSUE.
INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING FAILS TO DIM PROPERLY AT NIGHT CAUSING DIFFICULTY SEEING AT NIGHT DUE TO THE BRIGHTNESS OF THE DISPLAY. I AM ABLE TO GET THE DISPLAY TO BE TRICKED INTO GOING INTO "NIGHT MODE" IF THE DISPLAY LIGHT SENSOR HAS NO LIGHT AT VEHICLE STARTUP WITH HEADLIGHTS ON. AT ANY TIME IF THE SENSOR IS EXPOSED TO LIGHT AGAIN SUCH AS IF A DOOR IS OPENED OR INTERIOR LIGHT IS TURNED ON THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE STOPPED, DOORS LOCKED, AND SITTING FOR ONE MINUTE FOR THE WORKAROUND TO BE SUCCESSFUL AGAIN.
THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE SENSOR CONTROLLING THE BRIGHTNESS OF THE CONSOLE AND NAVIGATION SCREEN. AT NIGHT, THE BRIGHTNESS GETS SET TO THE HIGHEST SETTING, WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY BLINDING, AND THE DIMMER SWITCH DOES DOES NOT WORK. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IS CAUSING HARM TO MY EYES.
THE VEHICLE'S DASH BOARD LIGHTING DIMMING FUNCTION IS NOT WORKING AND IMPAIRING THE DRIVERS NIGHT VISION ALWAYS BEING AT THE HIGHEST SETTING. REPORTING THIS ISSUE AS THIS IS NOT ONLY AFFECTING A SINGLE VEHICLE, BUT MULTIPLES.
