DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO TWO WHEEL DRIVE THAT EXPERIENCED VIBRATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP BECAUSE THE CONTACT SUSPECTED IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED ON RACKS THE MECHANIC NOTED IT WAS THE CARRIER BEARINGS IN THE REAR END. ALSO, THE MECHANIC NOTED THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE THAT HE WAS QUITE FAMILIAR WITH. IT WAS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THERE WAS A RISK FOR THE WHEEL LOCKING WHILE DRIVING. THE MECHANIC WOULD NOT PERFORM THE REPAIRS BECAUSE THE WOULD SOON DUE TO THE PART BEING DEFECTIVE. THE CONTACTED CONTACTED A CHRYSLER DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY WOULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE BECAUSE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. NO REPAIRS OR CORRECTIONS HAVE BEEN MADE AT THIS TIME. THEY SUGGESTED A FRICTION MODIFIER TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM. *AK
THE STEEL BRAKE LINE RUNNING UNDER THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF THE AUTO CORRODED CAUSING A COMPLETE AND SUDDEN LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID FOR THE REAR BRAKES. THE BRAKE LINE CORRODED WHERE IT CAME IN CONTACT WITH A WHITE PLASTIC CLIP INTENDED TO SECURE AND LOCATE THE BRAKE LINE. *NM
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAD A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE ROTORS SINCE 2005. HE HAD TO REPLACE THE ROTORS ON 2 OCCASIONS SINCE HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2003. THE CONTACT HAD BEEN INFORMED THAT HE NEEDED TO HAVE THE ROTORS REPLACED AGAIN. ALSO, THE CONTACT HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LOCKS. WHEN HITTING THE UNLOCK REMOTE CONTROL TO UNLOCK THE DOORS THE VEHICLE DID NOT UNLOCK. ON SOME OCCASIONS WHILE IN THE VEHICLE AND TRYING TO UNLOCK THE DOORS FROM INSIDE THE DOORS DID NOT UNLOCK. A NUMBER OF TIMES HE'S HAD TO GET OUT THE VEHICLE FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. IN ADDITION, TAIL LIGHTS ARE MALFUNCTIOED. THE SOCKET THAT HELD THE BULBS DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. HE STATED THAT HIS BRAKE LIGHTS AND HIS REVERSE LIGHTS HAVE FAILED. HE HAD TO GLUE THE PLASTIC SOCKETS TOGETHER, AND ON THE LAST TIME HE NEEDED REPAIRS FOR THE SOCKET, HE HAD TO RIG THEM UP TO WORK. FINALLY THE CONTACT HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKE AND BACK UP LIGHTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000, AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000. *AK
REPLACEMENT OF FRONT AND REAR DISCS ON BRAKE SYSTEM FOR THE 4TH TIME. BRAKES REPEATEDLY PULSE AND FADE. ALL MILES ARE HIGHWAY DRIVEN. VERY CONSERVATIVE DRIVER. PADS SEEM TO LAST, ACCORDING TO SERVICE TECHNICIAN HOWEVER DISCS ARE COMPLETELY PITTED INDICATING INFERIOR COMPONENTS AND EXTREMELY POOR BRAKE DESIGN. *NM
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMERS 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO MADE A LOUD POPPING SOUND. CONSUMER PULLED OVER AND NOTICED ANTIFREEZE LEAKING . *TS DURING CLOSER EXAMINATION THE CONSUMER REALIZED THAT THE COOLING FAN HAD BROKEN IN SEVERAL PIECES AND HAD DAMAGED THE RADIATOR. THE CONSUMER DIDN'T NOTICE OR HEAD ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT. *NM
2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4.0L. RADIATOR FAN CAME APART DAMAGING RADIATOR & SHROUD. REPLACED FAN & RADIATOR. IN 2007 CHRYSLER HAD A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT SAID MY VEHICLE WASN'T IN THE RECALL DUE TO DATE OF MANUFACTURE. SINCE THIS FAILURE IS IDENTICAL TO THE FAILURE THAT INITIATED THE RECALL, JEEP SHOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR MY LOSS. *JB

ON SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 4, 2005 WHILE RETURNING FROM A 220 MILE TRIP THE RADIATOR FAN ON OUR 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FRACTURED AND SEPARATED, CAUSING RUPTURE OF RADIATOR, COOLANT LOSS AND RAPID OVERHEATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO FIRESTONE AUTO REPAIR WHERE THE RADIATOR, FAN AND SHROUD ASSEMBLY WERE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2005. IT BECAME APPARENT WHEN LEAVING FIRESTONE THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD SUFFERED DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF THE OVERHEATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PANHANDLE TRANSMISSION WHERE A REBUILT TRANSMISSION WAS INSTALLED. A RECALL NOTICE WAS ISSUED BY DAIMLER-CHRYSLER IN OCTOBER 2006. INVOICES, CREDIT CARD STATEMENTS AND CANCELED CHECK WAS SUBMITTED TO DAIMLER CHRYSLER AS PROOF OF DEFECT AND SUBSEQUENT DAMAGE REPAIR. DAIMLER-CHRYSLER REIMBURSED THE COST OF THE FAN, RADIATOR AND SHROUD REPLACEMENT ON NOVEMBER 16, 2006 IN THE AMOUNT OF $1003.89 BUT NO REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE DAMAGE CAUSED TO THE TRANSMISSION ($1350.00) DUE TO RADIATOR FAILURE AND RAPID OVERHEATING OF THE TRANSMISSION COOLANT SYSTEM. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE RADIATOR FAN CRACKED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE RADIATOR FAN CRACKED AND THE RADIATOR FAN ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT PAID FOR THE REPAIR. HE LATER WAS INFORMED OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V199000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM:FAN). THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 116,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,602. UPDATED 01/24/08. *LJ
2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO HOOD STRUT FAILED AND FELL ONTO ME AS I WAS CHECKING OIL. NO SERIOUS INJURY OCCURRED BUT THE MECHANISM SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED AND COULD EASILY HAVE SERIOUSLY INJURED ME HAD I NOT BEEN AS AWARE AND QUICK AS I WAS. DEALER REFUSES TO REPLACE OR REPAIR THE FAILED DEVICE. OFFERED TO REPLACE FOR $106.00. *JB
I HAVE RECEIVED NUMEROUS SUMMONS FOR FAULTY TAILLIGHTS. I HAD THE LIGHTS REPLACED TWICE. THE BACK BRAKELIGHTS ARE OUT TOTALLY. THE NYPD SEEMS TO FAMILIAR WITH THESE CASES IN THE 2000 JEEPS, THE FIRST QUESTION I WAS ASKED BEFORE ASKING FOR MY LICENSE AND REGISTRATION, THE POLICE OFFICER INQUIRED ABOUT THE YEAR OF MY VEHICLE. I AM REALLY SURPRISED THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THE GRAND CHEROKEES. I ALWAYS SEE THE SEEM ISSUES WITH THE GRAND CHEROKEES ON THE ROAD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE WITH HER ENGINE STALLING. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND LOST POWER. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. SHE WOULD USUALLY RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER COASTING TO THE SHOULDER AND TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, IT WAS UNABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER THE MOST RECENT FAILURE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE OR IDENTIFY ANY TROUBLE CODES. DT: WITHOUT WARNING, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW WHILE DRIVING. THE CONSUMER STATED TWO OTHER TIRES WERE LEAKING AIR BECAUSE THE SIDEWALLS WERE DEFECTIVE. THE CONSUMER WAS CONSTANTLY PUTTING AIR IN THEM. *JB
2000 GRAND CHEROKEE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WARPING/FAILING DUE TO MANUFACTURE DEFECT. JUST DAILY USAGE - BRAKES HAVE BEEN SERVICED ONCE BEFORE, AND ARE NOW GOING IN FOR REPAIR AGAIN. JEEP INTERNAL TSB'S TSB 05-003-02B - FRONT BRAKE PULSATION DURING LIGHT TO MODERATE BRAKE APPLICATION DESCRIBES THIS ONOING ISSUE- THE VIBRATION IS SO BAD RIGHT NOW THAT LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL IS POSSIBILITY. I'VE HAD TWO DOOR LOCKS MALFUNCTION TO THE POINT WHERE THEY WILL NO LONGER OPEN THE DOOR. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER DOOR AND THE DRIVER DOOR. THE FIRST OCCURRED ABOUT 5 MONTHS AGO (RIGHT REAR PASSENGER DOOR) AND ON 7-08-05 THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR STOPPED WORKING
DT: CONTACT STATES: THE TIRE ROD AND BALL JOINTS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE FELL APART. HE SAW ON THE WEBSITE THERE WAS 318,000 RECALLS ON THE DURANGO FOR THAT YEAR. THERE WAS NO WARNING THAT THE FAILURE WAS ABOUT TO OCCUR. HE HAS CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY OTHER REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE. *AK *NM
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED THAT 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WAS HAVING AN PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT SEA SLIDER THAT ADJUSTED THE SEAT ON DRIVER'S SIDE. THE BOLT WAS GOING THROUGH THE BRACKET. THE SEAT WAS ROCKING BACK AND FORTH. THE CONSUMER NOTICED THIS ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO WHEN THE BOLT WAS DISLODGING AND MAKING A CLINGING SOUND. THE CONSUMER INVESTIGATED THE NOISE FURTHER AND FOUND THAT THE BOLT WAS COMING THROUGH THE BRACKET. THE CONSUMER WAS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND FOUND THAT THERE WERE OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE. THE CONSUMER WAS TAKING THE JEEP IN FOR REPAIRS TOMORROW. *AK
I RECENTLY READ ABOUT THE 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE INVESTIGATION REGARDING THE COOLING FAN BREAKING APART AND COMING THROUGH PLASTIC OUTER PROTECTIVE SHELL. I OWN A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 4.0L AND THIS HAPPENED TO ME LAST MONTH. IT BEGAN AS A RUMBLING NOISE WHEN MY AIR CONDITIONER WAS ON AND PROGRESSIVELY GOT LOUDER OVER ABOUT TWO MONTHS. I FAILED TO HAVE THE NOISE CHECKED OUT. IN JUNE, WHILE I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE, THE COOLING FAN COMPLETELY FELL APART AND IMPALED ITSELF INTO MY RADIATOR AND BROKE THROUGH THE OUTER PLASTIC SHROUD ON THE TOP SIDE AND ON THE UNDER SIDE. I HAD TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THE FAN AND RADIATOR. *NM
NO EVENT CAUSED THIS FAILURE . CAR HAS NOT BEEN IN ACCIDENT OR MISUSED EVER. THE DRIVERS SEAT BROKE FREE FROM THE SLIDERS. METAL ACTUALLY RIPPED AROUND BOLTS. CAUSED SEAT TO FALL BACKWARD AS I WAS DRIVING. CURRENTLY HAVE SEAT CLAMPED TO SEAT BRACKET AS I LOOK FOR NEW ONES. JEEP SWEARS ITS NOT A BIG PROBLEM AS IT MADE MILLIONS OF GRAND CHEROKEES. SEATS CAN'T BE FOUND IN JUNK YARDS AND THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE. I WONDER HOW MANY HAVE BEEN INJURED OR DIED BECAUSE OF ACCIDENTS CAUSED BY SEAT FAILURE. LOCKS ON BOTH THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOOR AND THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR HAVE FAILED.

I AM EXPERIENCING THE FOLLOWING ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE: THE STEERING FEELS LOOSE, FEELS LIKE IT IS STICKING AND IT SEIZED ONCE. I HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY A DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE STEERING GEAR BOX IS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. SINCE I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY, WE HAVE DISCONTINUED DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR NOW. AFTER SOME RESEARCH FOR THE POSSIBLE ROOT CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM I FOUND THE FOLLOWING RECALL NOTICE: 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO NHTSA RECALL ID NUMBER: 99V312000 RECALL DATE: NOV 04, 1999 COMPONENT: STEERING:GEAR BOX (OTHER THAN RACK AND PINION) POTENTIAL UNITS AFFECTED: 1259 PLEASE REVIEW INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, MY OWN VEHICLE WAS ALSO BUILT IN AUGUST OF 1999 (PER STICKER ON VEHICLE). AFTER TALKING TO THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF MY VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, I WAS ONLY TOLD THAT THERE ARE NO OPEN ISSUES LISTED ON MY VEHICLE AND THEY COULD NOT EVEN TELL ME IF MY STEERING GEAR WAS REPLACED AT THE TIME OF THE PREVIOUS OWNER. AFTER CALLING CHRYSLER CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE, I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THERE IS NO OPEN RECALL ON MY VEHICLE AND THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. HERE IS MY REQUEST TO YOU: PLEASE CONTACT DAIMLER CHRYSLER TO GET SOME MORE INFORMATION AS TO WHY MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL EVEN THOUGH IT WAS BUILT IN EXACTLY THE SAME TIME FRAME AS ALL THE RECALLED VEHICLES. DRIVER'S SIDE TURN SIGNAL AND BRAKE LIGHT GO OUT WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. TURN SIGNAL WORKS WHEN BRAKE IS NOT APPLIED. BRAKE LIGHT TYPICALLY WORKS WHEN TURN SIGNAL IS NOT ON. HAVE REPLACED LIGHT BULBS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. OBVIOUSLY NOT THE PROBLEM...AND AFTER READING SOME OF THE COMPLAINTS I SEE THAT THIS IS COMMON AND IS NOT RELATED TO THE BULBS AT ALL SO I WILL STOP WASTING MY MONEY ON BULBS! *TR
LEFT PASSENGER DOOR LOCK IS INOPERABLE. MAKES LOUD SOUND WHEN LOCKS AUTOMATICALLY ACTIVATE WHILE DRIVING AS WELL AS WHEN I LOCK OR UNLOCK THE DOORS USING EITHER OF THE LOCK BUTTONS ON THE FRONT DOORS. *TR
AT 70K ,WITH NO WARNING,THE LEFT TIE ROD END CAME LOOSE FROM THE TIE ROD BAR.THREADS WERE STRIPPED OUT IN TIE ROD BAR . HAD JUST GOTTEN OFF THE INTERSTATE!
ENGINE OVERHEATING SPORADICALLY STARTING ABOUT 3 YRS. AGO. WE REPLACED WATER PUMP PER DEALER BUT DID NOT SOLVE PROBLEM. DEALER SAID TO REPLACE HIDDEN TEMPERATURE RELAY - WE DID THAT. IN MEANTIME ENGINE OVER HEATED CRACKING CYLINDER HEAD BETWEEN #3&4 CYLINDER CAUSING HARDSHIPS. WE STILL NOW HAVE THE LOSS OF COOLANT PROBLEM AND LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE ONGOING. NEEDING OIL PUMP CHANGE. ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH ALL OF THIS SAME PROBLEM OIL PRESSURE DROPS OFF & ON TO ZERO. COOLANT STILL LEAKS INTO ENGINE. *TR
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES AT SPEEDS OF AROUND 30 MPH OR MORE THE VEHICLE'S FRONT END SHIMS VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE SHAKES AS THE FRONT WHEELS ARE SEEN OSCILLATIONS FROM RIGHT TO LEFT, WHICH RESULTS IN A LOST OF STEERING. THE DEALER ATTRIBUTES THIS TO WARPED ROTORS. WHILE WARPED ROTORS MAY CAUSE A BRAKING ISSUE THEY SHOULD NOT CAUSE OSCILLATIONS IN THE FRONT WHEELS. REPLACING THE ROTORS AND PADS MIGHT TEMPORARILY IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE IT WILL NOT CORRECT THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM OR DESIGN FLAW THAT CAUSES THE OSCILLATIONS IN THE STEERING OF THE FRONT WHEELS
I HAD JUST TURNED RIGHT AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, DRIVING SLOWLY FORWARD IN A CONSTRUCTION AREA, WHEN MY ACCELERATOR SUDDENLY STUCK. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS MY CAR HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AT AN ACCELERATED SPEED, CAUSING A CHAIN REACTION WITH 2 ADDITIONAL CARS. MY CAR WAS TOTALED AND I BELIEVE THE ONE I HIT DIRECTLY WAS TOO...I WAS TICKETED FOR CARELESS DRIVING EVEN THOUGH I TOLD THE POLICE WHAT HAD HAPPENED...A YEAR LATER I HAVE HEARD SEVERAL REPORTS ABOUT MY VEHICLE, A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, HAVING THIS PROBLEM. MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAS BEEN DEALING WITH THE SUBSEQUENT LAWSUITS FILED BY 3 OF THE 4 VEHICLES HIT RESULTING FROM THIS ACCIDENT... *JB
THE KEY IGNITION LOCKED UP ON MY JEEP AT APPROXIMATELY 37,000 MILES. VEHICLE TRANSPORTED TO DEALER AND LOCK SYSTEM REPLACED FOR APPROXIMATELY $190.00 AT 82,000 MILES THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM RECURRED. SAME FIX FOR SAME COST. MECHANIC STATED HE HAD REPLACED "HUNDREDS" OF IGNITION LOCKS ON THE JEEP SUV. *NM
DT: WAS DRIVING AND NOTICED THE SEAT WOBBLING, SEAT MOUNT ADJUSTER ANGLE BRACKET BROKEN ON DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT. ANGLE BRACKET FAILED. CONTACT FELT IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW. DEALER STATED HE SAW BRACKET FAILURE BEFORE ON OTHER VEHICLES. MANUFACTURER WILL NOT HELP. *AK
WE HAVE A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT HAS HAD CONSISTENT BRAKE PROBLEMS. SINCE 2001, WE HAVE HAD TO RESURFACE THE ROTORS SIX TIMES AND THE VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM TODAY. THIS IS NOT AN OPERATOR PROBLEM, BUT IS A SAFETY PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT BRAKES. I HAVE DISCUSSED THIS WTH MY MECHANIC AND HE SAYS IT IS A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS.
I HAVE A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO THAT HAS PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT BRAKES SINCE I BOUGHT IT. THE VEHICLE HAS 30,725 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE HAD THE BRAKES REPLACED 3 TIMES. AT AROUND 12,000 MILES, THE CAR BEGAN TO VIBRATE, SHAKE AND PULL TO THE LEFT WHENEVER I DECELERATED. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY RESURFACED THE BRAKE ROTORS. AT 30,000 MILES THE SAME THINGS BEGAN TO OCURR, EXCEPT THAT THE PULLING EFFECT WAS MORE PRONOUNCED, WHERE I ACTUALY HAD TO TURN THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT AS I CAME TO A STOP. AFTER READING COMPLAINTS FROM FELLOW JEEP OWNERS (MODEL YEAR 1999-2004) WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME OR WORSE EXPERIENCE, I HAD AFTERMARKET ROTORS PUT ON MY VEHICLE BY A NON-JEEP MECHANIC. I BELIEVE THAT THE MANUFACTURER IS USING OEM ROTORS THAT ARE MADE OUT OF INFERIOR MATERIALS. IN ADDITION, I AM REASONABLY SURE THAT A CLASS ACTION SUIT HAS ALREADY BEEN BROUGHT AGAINST JEEP BY THE MASON LAW FIRM REGARDING THIS EXACT PROBLEM.
AS I WAS IN PARK WITH MY VEHICLE RUNNING, MY VEHICLE JUMPED OUT OF PARK INTO REVERSE AND ROLLED AWAY EVENTUALLY HITTING A WOMAN PUTTING HER INTO THE HOSPITAL. IT ALSO HAD DONE DAMAGE TO THE FUNERAL HOME WE WERE AT. I WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME. SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE INCIDENT THE CAR SHIFTER WOULD LOCK UP AND NOT EVEN MOVE OUT OF PARK.

BRAKE PULSATION AND HEAVY VIBRATION DURING NORMAL BRAKING. THIS IS DUE TO DEFECTIVE BRAKE COMPONETS I.E. WARPING OF ROTORS CAUSED BY HEAT FRICTION FROM INFERIOR METAL AND OR MANUFACTURING PROCESS. THE CLASS ACTION SUIT FILED AGAINST DAIMLER/CHRYSLER ONLY COVERS VEHICLES THAT WERE UNDER THE STANDARD WARRANTY PERIOD. ALTHOUGH D/C ISN'T ADMITTING GUILT, THE PROPOSED SETTLEMENT WILL COVER ONLY THOSE VEHICLES THAT QUALIFY UNDER THEIR RULES. THE ATTORNEYS FOR THE SETTLEMENT CLASS DID NOT LITIGATE A CLAIM OR EVEN CONTEST THE RIGHTS OF THE CLASS MEMBERS WHO WERE NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY WHEN THE FAILURES OCCURRED. ALL OF THE CLASS MEMBERS WHO HAD THIS PROBLEM NEED TO BE COMPENSATED FOR THESE REPAIRS. DIDN'T THINK I WAS GOING TO BE ABLE TO STOP FROM HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. NOW I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND SEE THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND THAT IT IS LISTED IN THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FROM JEEP IN 2002. THIS IS MY FAMILY CAR! THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE HIT A GUARD RAIL AND THEN A BRIDGE RAIL HEAD ON. THE DRIVER WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT AND SUSTAINED INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND PICTURES WERE TAKEN AT THE SCENE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
3 OF THE FOUR POWER DOOR LOCKS ARE NOT LONGER WORKING AND THE DOORS CAN NOT BE OPENED WITHOUT FIRST UNLOCKING THE DOOR WITH THE POWER LOCK AND THEN MANUALLY UNLOCKING THE DOOR WITH THE LOCK SLIDER. THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM FOR THOSE IN THE BACK SEAT WHO CAN NOT REACH THE POWER LOCK BUTTON, THOSE MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR THEM TO EXIT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT HELP. *TR

THE SEAT FRAME ON THE DRIVER'S SEAT BROKE, CAUSING THE SEAT TO WOBBLE PRECARIOUSLY WHILE DRIVING. I HAD IT WELDED, BUT IT SUBSEQUENTLY BROKE IN ANOTHER PLACE. BASED ON INTERNET RESEARCH, I REPAIRED THAT BREAK WITH A BOLT AND NUT. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE FRAME BROKE IN ANOTHER PLACE. I ATTEMPTED ANOTHER REPAIR, WITH POOR RESULTS. IT HAS NOW BROKEN AGAIN, IN A FOURTH PLACE. THE SEAT FRAME IS MADE OF RATHER THIN STEEL, NOT AS THICK AS THAT OF A GOOD COOKING POT. THE SEAT HAS NOT BEEN ABUSED OR MISUSED IN ANY WAY, AND I FIND BY INTERNET RESEARCH THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. MY MECHANIC DESCRIBED THE SEAT FRAME AS BEING "MADE FROM A SOUP CAN." THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, AND I HESITATE TO REPLACE IT WITH A (QUITE EXPENSIVE) USED REPLACEMENT, AS I FEAR IT WILL ONLY BREAK AGAIN. *TR
THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I WAS MOVING MY CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE AND AS I BACKED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL FROZE AND I WAS UNABLE TO TURN IT AT ALL. I HAD TO SHUT OF THE CAR THEN TURN IT BACK ON AGAIN. THE SCOND TIME I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND NEEDED TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT, AND IT FROZE UP.I WAS UNABLE TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL AT ALL. I HAD TO STOP MY VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, PUT IT IN PARK AND TURN IT OFF, THEN BACK ON AGAIN TO RESET IT. I LOOKED UP ON THE INTERNET ANY RECALLS AND I WAS GIVEN A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING: GEAR BOX. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIPS WILL NOT FIX IT FOR FREE. *AK
BOTH TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLIES STOPPED WORKING AND WAS CITED BY A POLICE OFFICER. REPLACEMENT WAS ~$500. REAR LIFT GATE LOCK ACTUATOR IS BROKEN, SO CANNOT OPEN LIFT GATE. RIGHT REAR DOOR LOCK WILL NOT ALLOW OPENING FROM INSIDE. SHIFT SENSOR/SOLENOID HAS GONE BAD TWICE LEADING TO PROBLEMS WITH SHIFTING FROM GEARS (REVS REALLY HIGH BEFORE SHIFTING). ROTORS ARE CONSTANTLY BECOMING WARPED AND BRAKES HAVE TO BE READJUSTED. LEFT BLINKER NO LONGER WORKS AND TO FIX IT, THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THIS ENTIRE ENGINE BLOCK FOR ABOUT $800. POWER WINDOW LOCK NO LONGER WORKS.
