1.)THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS ON OUR 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ARE ALL FAILING. THERE ARE PLASTIC GRINDING NOISES THAT ULTIMATELY LEAD TO COMPLETE AUTOMATION FAILURE. .)THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS FAILURE IS THAT IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO LOCK THE VEHICLE DOORS, OR UNLOCK THE EFFECTED DOORS. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE ALSO THAT THE AUTO DOOR LOCKS ARE NOT OPERATIONAL. IF THE VEHICLE WERE IN A CRASH THE DOORS MIGHT EITHER BE LOCKED CLOSED, OR THE DOORS MIGHT FLY OPEN BECAUSE THEY CANNOT BE LOCKED. THE AUTO DOOR LOCK FEATURE THAT THE GRAND CHEROKEE HAS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS MOVING WOULD BE RENDERED USELESS. 3.)THE DRIVER DOOR ACTUATOR HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH NO HELP FROM DAIMLER CHRYSLER. THE REAR DRIVER SIDE HAS FAILED, THE REAR PASSENGER IS ABOUT TO FAIL. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED YET DUE TO THE HIGH COST ASSOCIATED WITH THIS REPAIR.*AK
I PURCHASED MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE NEW IN 2000. FOR A NEW VEHICLE IT HAS SPENT MUCH TIME IN THE JEEP REPAIR SHOP. PROBLEMS INCLUDE: DOOR LOCKS (2 REPACED - DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE OVER $200 EACH), ELECTRICAL SWITCH REPLACED (LIGHTS, HONKING HORN, ETC. $175.00), IGNITION OR START SWITCH REPLACED (@250.00), COOLANT - WATER PUMP ($375.00), AIR CONDITIONER HAS HAD PROBLEMS. ALL PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. THE JEEP HAS BEEN TAKEN GOOD CARE OF BUT I WOULD THINK SERIOUSLY ABOUT PURCHASING ANOTHER JEEP CONSIDERING ALL THE PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD WITH THIS ONE.*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT MOUNT SHEERED OFF COMPLETELY AND THE SEAT WAS NO LONGER ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER MADE THREE ATTEMPTS TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WAS 30,000.
I HAVE A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. I HAVE AN ANTI-FREEZE LEAK. I HAVE HAD IT FIXED TWICE. I WISH I COULD TELL YOU WHAT WAS DONE BUT I KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT CARS. I A SAW A STORY ON THE NEWS REGARDING SUDDEN "UNEXPLAINED ACCELERATION" IN 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES WHICH HAS BEEN RESULTING IN ACCIDENTS, AND ONE FATALITY. I HAVE HAD TOO MANY CLOSE CALLS TO MENTION, ESPECIALLY AT STOP LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS AND WHEN PULLING INTO PARKING SPACES. SITUATIONS THAT REQUIRE THE CAR TO PROGRESS SLOWLY, SUCH AS THE SITUATIONS ABOVE OR IN TRAFFIC. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST MINE, AS MY JEEP HAS BEEN NOTHING LESS THAN HIGH MAINTENANCE, BUT AFTER SEEING THIS STORY, IT APPEARS THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE. I SAW ON THE NEWS/READ IN THE ARTICLE THAT THE KY ATTORNEY GENERAL WAS PARTICIPATING IN THE INVESTIGATION. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED THE OH ATTORNEY GENERAL AND FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT, TO BRING THIS TO HIS ATTENTION AND IN HOPES THAT HE TOO WILL JOIN IN THIS EFFORT. *JB
THE VEHICLE BRAKE LIGHTS KEEP GOING OUT. ONE GOES OUT, THEN EVENTUALLY THE OTHER ONE GOES OUT. WE HAVE CHANGED BOTH LIGHT ASSEMBLY AND BULBS; THEY LAST FOR A WHILE THEN, EVENTUALLY GOES OUT AGAIN. THIS PROBLEM IS COMPOUNDED BY THE INCONVENIENCE OF BEING PULLED OVER FOR THE PROBLEM MULTIPLE TIMES AND NOT TO MENTION A HUGE SAFETY FACTOR. THE EXPENSE TO REPLACE THE LIGHT COMPONENTS/AND OR REPAIR HAS BEEN IN THE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OVER TIME. THE LAST TIME WE HAD IT IN FOR A REPAIR THEY CHANGED THE HARNESS ASSEMBLY AND THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEPS OF THIS ERA. *TR
HAVE A 2000 JEEP GC. DRIVER'S SEAT WOBBLY FOR SEVERAL YEARS. FINALLY REALIZED THE TRACK WAS FRACTURED IN MULTIPLE PLACES AND GOT A NEW ONE. IN CHAINING OUT THE TRACKS, NOTICED THAT THE SEAT FRAME IS ALSO FRACTURED IN MULTIPLE PLACES. SEAT NOW BEING HELD ON BY TWO PARTIALLY TORN PIECES OF METAL. ONLY DRIVER SINCE THE DAY IT WAS NEW. 200 LBS. *TR
I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED 3 DOOR LOCK "ACTUATORS" ON MY JEEP AND ON MY WAY TO REPLACE AN ALREADY REPLACED ONE (DRIVER DOOR) TO MAKE THE TOTAL 4. AFTER LOOKING ON YOUR WEBSITE IT LOOKS LIKE THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. THE RESPONSE I GOT FROM JEEP IS THAT MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING SINCE I HAVE HAD A MULTITUDE OF PROBLEMS FROM THIS VEHICLE. THE DATE OF INCIDENT IS ONLY MY MOST RECENT. I HOPE THAT SOMETHING GETS DONE AND JEEP DOES NOT GET AWAY WITH FAULTY EQUIPMENT IN THEIR VEHICLES.*AK
THE DRIVER'S DOOR AUTOMATICALLY LOCKED, AND THEN COULD NOT BE UNLOCKED. I DROVE TO MY LOCAL CHRYSLER/JEEP DEALER, AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, AND WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I THINK IT *IS* A SAFETY ISSUE, AS I HAD TO CLIMB OUT THROUGH THE PASSENEGER SIDE DOOR, BECAUSE THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR COULD NOT BE UNLOCKED OR OPENED, EVEN WITH THE MANUAL UNLOCK.*AK
2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO - FRONT DOOR LOCKS STARTED TO BUZZ AND WOULD NOT WORK PROPERLY. SAFETY ISSUE LIVING IN A CITY, I WANT TO BE ABLE TO LOCK MY DOORS WHEN DRIVING OR PARKING IN A PUBLIC AREA. *JB
MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS HAD A HEATER PROBLEM. IT GETS SO HOT THAT IT CAN BURN MY FINGERS. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN ON THE PASSENGER SIDE THE HEAT DOESN'T WORK IT ONLY BLOWS COLD AIR THROUGH THE VENT AND ON THE FLOOR.*AK ALSO IN THE TRASNMISSION WHEN YOU COME TO A STOP YOU CAN SOMETIMES FEEL A LOUD THUMP LIKE SOMEONE JUST REAR ENDED YOU. IT HAPPENS ABOUT 3-4 TIMES A WEEK.
WE OWN A 2000, JEEP, GRAND CHEROKEE AND CURRENTLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 61,000 MILES. BESIDES THE PAINT PEELING PROBLEM ..... WHICH WAS FIXED, WE STILL HAVE THE VIBRATING, SHUDDERING BRAKE PROBLEM . TWICE A YEAR SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW, WE HAVE HAD TO HAVE BRAKE (ROTOR) REPAIRS . CHRYSLER HAS PAID UNTIL LAST MONTH. I HAD TO BEG FOR THEM TO AT LEAST NOT CHARGE ME FOR THE PARTS. I HAD TO PAY $82 FOR LABOR. IT HAS COME TO THE POINT WITH THE MILEAGE .THAT THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE BRAKES FOR FREE ANYMORE. I AM NOT HARD ON THEM....I WORK 1 MILE FROM MY HOME .THAT IS WHY I ONLY HAVE 61,000 MILES ON IT. WHAT I WANT IS A GUARANTEE FROM CHRYSLER THAT FOR THE LIFE OF MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, THEY WILL REPAIR THIS PROBLEM OF THERE'S FREE OF CHARGE. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINT. WHEN WILL CHRYSLER FINALLY ADMIT THIS IS A PROBLEM AND ISSUE A RECALL ??*AK
VEHICLE FIRST STARTED VIBRATING WHEN BRAKING IN 2000. TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE REPLACED THE ROTORS. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD IT IN ABOUT EVERY 6 TO 8 MONTHS FOR THE SAME REPAIRS. WHEN I TAKE IT IN TOMORROW IT WILL BE THE 6TH TIME. THIS TIME THEY ARE CLAIMING THAT WARRANTY NO LONGER COVERS IT. WITH THIS MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE BRAKES, WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL TO FIX IT PROPERLY?*AK
EVERY 10-15,000 MILES THE BRAKES IN MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2000 HAVE SERIOUS WEAR WHICH CAUSES THEM TO SHAKE WILDLY. TO DATE, THIS HAS CAUSED NO CRASHES BUT WHEN I AM DRIVING WITH THE BRAKES LIKE THIS I WORRY ABOUT WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IN A SUDDEN STOP. I HAVE HAD MY 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE FOR A LITTLE OVER ONE YEAR. IN THAT YEAR I REPLACED THE ACTUATOR IN THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. IT MADE A LOUD SCREACHING NOISE. NOW BOTH OF MY BACK DOORS ARE MAKING THE SAME SCREACHING NOISE AND I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THEM. OVERALL, I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF MY JEEP AND GLAD THAT MY PROBLEMS ARE NOT UNDER THE HOOD! THE ENTIRE DRIVER SIDE SEAT WAS RAISED FROM THE FLOOR AND THE CONSUMER WAS THROWN INTO THE BACK SEAT AFTER BEING REAR ENDED. THE BOLTS WERE LIFTED OUT OF THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *JB

I OWN A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. I BOUGHT THIS SUV USED IN 01/2004 AND HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THE BRAKING SYSTEMS OF THIS VEHICLE. I AM NOW EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM AS THESE PEOPLE ARE AND I'M WONDERING WHY NOBODY IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT! THE PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE IS THAT YOU GET A PULSATING ACTION WHEN BRAKING AND THE BRAKES NEED TO BE REPLACED EVERY 3,000 MILES OR SO. AS YOUR ORGANIZATION KNOWS, THIS CAN BE A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AS THIS PROBLEM ISN'T COVERED BY JEEP UNDER WARRANTY AND WE, THE CONSUMER, CAN'T AFFORD TO REPLACE BRAKES THIS OFTEN. THE BRAKES IN MY JEEP ARE SO HORRIBLE THAT WHEN I BRAKE AT 55 MPH, I FEEL IT'S UNSAFE TO DRIVE. MY STEERING WHEEL SHAKES SO MUCH THAT IT'S HARD TO CONTROL. BRANDOW CHRYSLER NOTIFIED ME THAT 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE TRANSMISSION REQUIRES REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE HAS 56,000 MILES AND HAS PROPERLY MAINTAINED. *AK UPON REVIEW OF SIMILAR ISSUES FROM OTHER 1999/2000 JEEP OWNERS WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT DUE TO LACK OF NOTICE BY BRANDOW OR DAIMLER CHRYSLER REGARDING TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE.

FRONT BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS REPLACED 4 TIMES IN 40,000MILES. CHRYSLER EVEN REPLACED THEM AND FRONT CALIPERS THE FIRST TIME. THE LAST TIME THEY WERE REPLACD WAS A MONTH BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. FOR THE 4TH TIME, STEERING WHEEL AND PEDAL VIBRATE WHEN BRAKING SUDDENLY.I LOST CONTROL AND ROLLED THE 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE INTO A GUARD RAIL. *AK
LEFT BRAKE LIGHT ON JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE DEFECTIVE... NATURE OF DEFECT: TAILLIGHTS REMAIN OPERABLE UNTIL FOOT BRAKE IS DEPRESSED. WHEN BRAKE IS DEPRESSED, THE LEFT BRAKE LIGHT TURNS OFF ONLY ALLOWING THE RIGHT BRAKE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. UPON RELEASE OF THE FOOT BRAKE, THE TAIL LIGHTS RETURN TO OPERATION. ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THIS DEFECT HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL BY ME AND FIRESTONE. I HAVE NOTICED OVER TWENTY OTHER MODELS SIMILAR TO MINE WITH THIS SAME DEFECT.*AK

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO INSTALL A PEG PEREGO INFANT SEAT AND BASE IN A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE I FOUND THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE VERY PRONE TO RELEASE WHEN THE EDGE OF THE INFANT SEAT BASE BUMPED INTO THE RAISED RED RELEASE BUTTON ON THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE. DEFECTIVE BRAKES ON JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. BRAKE ROTORS APPARENTLY WARP FROM HEAT. MY WIFE OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, AND WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES THREE TIMES ALREADY. THERE ARE MANY OWNERS OF GRAND CHEROKEES THAT HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH BRAKES. JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FUEL PUMP FAILURE. IT IS DIFFICULT TO START. OFTEN YOU HAVE TO TURN THE KEY ON AND OFF 3-5 TIMES BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO CRANK OVER THE ENGINE. THIS WILL BUILD ENOUGH PRESSURE IN THE TANK TO GET IT STARTED. THE OTHER METHOD YOU MUST USE IS TO TURN THE ENGINE OVER FOR 5-10 SECONDS, AND IT WILL NEVER START DOING THIS THE FIRST TIME, BUT THEN WHEN YOU LET OFF THE KEY FOR 5 SECONDS, AND START AGAIN, IT WILL FINALLY CRANK THE ENGINE OVER. THIS GETS OLD, AND IS VERY DIFFICULT TO EXPLAIN WHEN SELLING THE VEHICLE. TO TOP IT OFF, THE FUEL PUMP IS IN THE TANK MAKING IT VERY LABOR INTENSIVE TO FIX. MY ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC SAYS HE HAS FIXED SEVERAL WITH THIS PROBLEM, AND IT IS A WONDER WHY THIS HAS NEVER BEEN RECALLED. *AK
