11/2001 VEHICLE STARTED STALLING INTERMITTENTLY WHILE STOPPED OR AT SLOW SPEED. SINCE 11/23/2001 HAS BEEN OUT OF SERVICE FOR 58 DAYS - CRANK SENSOR, FUEL RELAY, PCM, 2 WIRING HARNESSES, CLOCK SPRING, TRANSMISSION HAVE NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM, WHEN IT DIES, IT RESETS THE COMPUTER AND NEW ONE HAVE DEVELOPED, I.E. - ALMOST DIES THEN LURCHES FORWARD, AT SPEEDS OVER 50 VEHICLE FEELS LIKE THE BACK TIRES HIT ICE AND THEN CATCH (TEMP 60 DEGREES). HAD 2 CO-PILOTS - ONLY SHOWS EVERYTHING SHUTS DOWN, NO DIAGNOSTICS INFORMATION. *AK
BRAKE ROTORS ARE WARPED. REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER REFUSE ANY RESPONSIBILITY. OWNER MUST PAY FOR ALL REPAIRS. WARRANTY ONLY 12,000MI.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THERE WOULD BE VIBRATION IN VEHICLE DURING ACTIVATION OF BRAKE SYSTEM. VIBRATION WOULD INCREASE IN SEVERITY AT HIGHER SPEEDS. DEALERSHIP EXAMINED VEHICLE AND REPLACED BRAKE ROTORS UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE ROTORS WERE WARPED. *AK

STEERING COLUMN VIBRATES SEVERLY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO APPLY BRAKES AND TRAVELING AT SPEEDS ABOVE 65 MPH, DEALERSHIP HAS EXAMINED VEHICLE, AND HAS FAILED TO REMEDY PROBLEM BY REPLACING BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. *AK DEALER RECOMMENDED REPLACING ROTORS, WHICH WERE WARPED, AND ALSO THE BRAKE PADS, CONSUMER REFUSED, ALSO LEFT FRONT AND REAR SHOCK ABSORBERS WERE LEAKING, WHICH WERE REPLACED.*YD
STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKE PEDAL WHEN BRAKES WAS APPLIED. I TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKE PADS WERE WORN DOWN AND THE ROTORS NEEDED RESURFACING. THEY SAID THAT THE PARTS HAD A WARRANTY FOR 12,000 MILES. I FEEL THAT THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTOR WERE WORN DOWN PREMATURELY DUE TO DEFECT IN DESIGN OF BRAKE SYSTEM. CHRYSLER SHOULD REDESIGN THEIR ROTORS AND RECALL THE DEFECTIVE ONES.PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS AS IT COST ME $229.47 TO REPAIR.*AK

WWILE PARKING VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO REQUIRE BOTH FEET ON BRAKE AND SHIFT TO NUETRAL TO STOP. VEHICLE STRUCK CURBING IN LOT AND UPSET ITS LOCATION. IN TRAFIC THIS COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL.*AK
SINCE MY INITIAL REPORT ON THIS VEHICLES SUDDEN ACCELERATION WE HAVE HAD IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR OR CORRECTION OF THIS CONDITION. DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY CODES, OR DEFECT. DEALER CLAIMS THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS NOTHING OF THIS PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH YOUR SITE LISTS MANY OTHER INSTANCES OF THE SAME TYPE. THEY COULD OFFER NO HELP TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN RESOLVING THIS SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. HOW MANY REPORTS OF THE SAME TYPE HAVE TO BE FILLED BEFORE AN INVESTIGATION OF THIS CONDITION TAKES PLACE?*AK
WHEN ENGINE WAS IDLING AND GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR WAS IN PARK, VEHICLE JUMPED OUT OF PARK AND STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS IN REVERSE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO STOP VEHICLE BEFORE ANY INJURY OR CRASH COULD OCCUR. DEALERSHIP HAS EXAMINED VEHICLE, BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE A CAUSE FOR THIS PROBLEM. MY JGC HAS HAD OFF AND ON PROBLEMS SINCE I BOUGHT IT VIRTUALLY. NOT BEING A PARTICULARLY COMPLAINT ORIENTED PERSON, I AT FIRST ATTRIBUTED THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM ON THIS TRUCK TO THE FACT THAT I HAD NEVER OWNED A 4WD VEHICLE BEFORE. FROM THE OUTSET THIS TRUCK SHUDDERED WHEN IN A TIGHT TURN, EITHER DIRECTION. DURING THE FIRST WINTER II OWNED IT, I LEFT IT IN MY DRIVEWAY IN PARK ONLY TO COME OUT LATER TO FIND IT AT THE END OF MY DRIVE. THIS HAPPENED A NUMBER OF TIMES, ONCE STOPPING ONLY BECAUSE IT STOPPED UP AGAINST MY WIFE'S CAR. I THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY AT FIRST--NOW I WON'T LEAVE THIS VEHICLE ON A FLAT SURFACE WITHOUT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON. RECENTLY, THE TRUCK DEVELOPED A HUGE, AND FRIGHTENING "CLUNK" BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR I BELIEVE. AGAIN, I DID NOT MAKE MUCH OF THIS UNTIL THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON MORE OR LESS PERMANENTLY. THE TRUCK WILL NO LONGER SHIFT INTO APPROPRIATE GEAR, HAS POOR ACCELERATION AND WORSENING GAS MILAGE, AND RUNS AT ERRATIC AT BEST RPMS. I HAVE TAKEN IT TOO THE DEALER WHO ON THE FIRST VISIT TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AND TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE WAY OUT THE LOT. I TOOK THE TRUCK BACK ABOUT A WEEK LATER AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST ABOUT $250 TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. A WEEK LATER, I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, ANGRY THAT I HAD FOUND MY EXACT PROBLEM ON A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLITEN FROM CHRYSLER ITSELF. THE DEALER ALTHOGH VERY NICE BASICALLY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT A COST OF SOME (AT LEAST) $3,000.00. I AM TAKING THE CAR BACK NEXT WEEK TO HAVE THE DEALER TEAR DOWN THE TRANSMISSION, AFTER HAVING ATTEMPTED TO SPEAK TO THE DISTRICT MANAGER, WHO MYSTERIOUSLY DISAPPEARRED UPON MY ARRIVAL. HAVING READ NOW VIRTUALLY IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS TO MINE ON THIS INTERNET SIGHT, I AM NOW TORN BETWEEN LETTING THEM REPAIR IT TO WHAT SEEMS LIKE NO AVAIL , FILING A LAWSUIT, OR TRADING THE VEHICLE IN AND LOSING A TON OF MONEY. VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE AND IT SUDDENLY LUNGED FORWARD WHILE GOING AROUND A BEND. ANOTHER TIME CONSUMER SLIGHTLY ACCELERATED, AND APPLIED BRAKES AND VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD. CONSUMER SLAMMED ON BRAKES HARD TO KEEP FROM LUNGING FORWARD. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH ENGINE RUNNING, EMERGENCY BRAKE NOT APPLIED. VEHICLE SUDDENLY TOOK OFF IN REVERSE, HITTING A PERSON AND THEN A BUILDING. PERSON WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED, DAMAGE TO VEHICLE WAS $1700.00. *AK CONSUMER STATES THAT HIS FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKES WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. *JB
MY 200 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAD BRAKES REPLACED TWICE UNDER 30,000 MILES. RIGHT NOW I AM AT 37,000 AND LOOKS LIKE I WILL HAVE VISIT THE DEALER AGAIN TO HAVE MY BRAKES REPLACED, AGAIN. WHEN ASKED ABOUT FRRE REPLACEMENT THE DEALER ANSWERED THAT THERE IS A TECHNICAL SRVICE BULLETIN (TSB) OUT THERE REGARDING THE ISSUE, BUT I STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT - NO EXCEPTIONS. HARD STARTING... FUEL PUMP REPLACED AND PROBLEM CORRECTED.. HAD TO PUMP THE GAS PEDAL LIGHTLY THEN TURN THE KEY TO GET THE BEAST STARTED.. AND I MEAN A BEAST !.. ROUGH IDLEING ENGINE, NOISEY DIESEL LIKE SOUND FROM THIS POORLY DESIGNED AND ENGINEERED HUNK OF METAL.. A TRUE EMBARRSEMENT FRO THE CHRYSLER ENGINEERS.. I MUST SAY ONE THING..THEY ARE CONSISTENT IN DESIGNING A GOOD LOOKING VEHICLE.. BUT BEAUTY IS ONLY SKIN DEEP.. FOR THIS VEHICLE IS A CONSUMERS NIGHTMARE.. STAY AWAY FROM THESE TRUCKS. *AK
ROTORS FAILED AT 7K, 14K, AND 27K. NEVER HAD A CAR THAT NEEDED BRAKE WORK AT 27K. SUSPECT THAT BRAKE SYSTEM IS UNDERSIZED FOR VEHICLE. *AK

WHEN TRAVELING AT 60 MPH AND APPLYING BRAKES VEHICLE WILL SHAKE WHEN TRYING TO SLOWDOWN. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER SOLVED PROBLEM. *AK CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM AS BENT ROTORS.*SLC
JEEP IS PULLING TO THE RIGHT.. WAS TOLD "ITS THE CROWN IN THE ROAD" BY FIRST DEALER. HAD IT TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER.. WAS TOLD THE ALIGNMENT IS OFF. ..SO IT WAS CORRECTED.. STILL DOES IT. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM.. THESE VEHICLES ABLILITY TO HOLD A STRAIGHT LINE IS LIKE TRYING TO PULL A RABBIT OUT OF A HAT. MAGIC..JUST AN ILLUSION THAT THE DEALER WANTS YOU TO SWALOW UP.. O RING DETERIORATES CAUSING LEAKAGE - DELAERSHIP ADMITTED AS KNOWN PROBLEM - CHRYSLER DENIED - I PAID TO HAVE FIXED - BELIEVE THAT IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT. *AK
DT: CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE FIVE INDIVIDUAL BRAKES IN FIVE YEARS. FIRST WAS THE FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS, THEN IT WAS THE FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS AGAIN ABOUT SEVEN MONTHS LATER. THEN ALMOST A YEAR LATER, HAD THEM REPLACED AGAIN. A YEAR AFTER THAT HAD THE REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS DONE. FINALLY HAD THE FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS AGAIN. THE MECHANIC TOLD CONSUMER THAT THE ROTORS WERE WARPED, AND THAT THEY COULD BARELY GET THEM OFF OF THE CAR.*AK WHEN I FIRST NOTICED THIS, THE BRAKES STARTED TO SEEM LIKE THEY WERE NOT AS EFFECTIVE AS THEY SHOULD BE. THEN, ABOUT A WEEK LATER, THE CAR WILL START TO VIBRATE AS I PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND THE VIBRATION STARTS IN THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND CONTINUE TO VIBRATE UNTIL THE WHOLE CAR IS SHAKING. IT TOOK A LONG TIME FOR THE VEHICLE TO CRANK. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP O-RING AND SHIMS. *NM
DT: BRAKES WERE A CONSTANT PROBLEM THAT BEGAN AT 80,00 MILES. ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED EVERY 8000 MILES. DEALER REPORTED IT WAS A WEAR AND TEAR ISSUE. VEHICLE WAS REGULARLY SERVICED. BRAKES BEGAN SHOWING A WEARING PROBLEM. ROTORS BECOME WARPED AND W-WHEEL ANTI LOCK BRAKES BECAMEE DEFECTIVE. HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING IN ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS. *AK

I PUT THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE IN A PARKING LOT, WENT BACKWARDS THEN PUT IT IN DRIVE TO GO FORWARD AND IT STILL WENT BACKWARD AND I HIT A TELEPHONE POLE. WHEN I LOOKED DOWN THE GEAR SHIFT WAS IN REVERSE AND NOT IN DRIVE.*AK

TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER(ONE WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED FROM) THEY RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM AND SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM.. THEY REPLACED THE GEAR BOX. SOUND IS COMING FROM THE PRESSURIZED FLUID WITHIN THE STEERING GEAR BOX. IT IS A CONFIRMED DESIGN FLAW. CONGRATULATIONS CHRYSLER.. YOU DID IT AGAIN..THE NEW GEAR BOX IS MUCH QUIETER BUT AFTERA MONTH..THE NOISE IS BACK BUT NOT AS PRONOUNCED. LESSON FOR TODAY.. NOT ALL DEALERS ARE THE SAME IN THEIR SERVICE ABILITY.*AK

SAME PROBLEM EXISTS WITH STEERING COLUMN & JEEP REFUSES TO FIX. JEEP SAYS IT'S NORMAL TO FACTORY/SPECS THIS TIME. FUEL PUMP HAS BEEN REPLACED DUE TO VEHICLE NOT STARTING DUE TO PRESSURE PROBLEM IN FUEL PUMP. VEHICLE SOMETIMES DOES NOT START AFTER FUEL PUMP REPLACED. JEEP STATES IT'S NORMAL TO FACTORY/SPECS AND REFUSES TO FIX.*AK
THE DRIVERS SEAT CAME LOOSE. THE BOLTS THAT HOLD IT DOWN TORE OUT FROM THE FRAME. THE SEAT BEGAN TO ROCK AND MADE IT DIFFICULT TO DRIVE.*AK
VEHICLE SHAKES HARD WHEN BRAKING. ALSO, /HAD TO REPLACE FUEL PUMP AT ALMOST 22,000 MILES
I HAVE CONTACTED JEEP VIA 1-800-992-1997 3 TIMES AND LEFT MESSAGES WITH ERIN @ X7110. SHE RETURNED THE FIRST CALL BUT I WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE SECOND CALL WAS DISCONNECTED AND SHE DID NOT RETURN THE CALL AGAIN. THE THIRD MESSAGE HAS NOT BEEN RETURNED. JEEP HAS REFUSED TO HELP ME IN ANY WAY AND I AM TRYING TO SEE WHAT AVENUES I HAVE THROUGH THE GOVERNMENT. I WOULD APPRECIATE SOMEONE FROM THE NHTSA CONTACTING ME ABOUT WHAT PROTECTION UNDER THE LAW I HAVE. I AM WILLING TO WORK WITH JEEP BUT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO WORK WITH ME. IT TAKES AN AVERAGE OF 30 MINUTES JUST TO GET THROUGH TO THEIR 800 NUMBER AND THE PERSON WHO IS HANDLING MY ACCOUNT IS NEVER AVAILABLE WHEN I CALL. I WOULD APPRECIATE SOME HELP.
