BRAKE ROTORS WENT BAD. VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE WHEN BRAKES APPLIED. NO PROBLEM WITH STOPPING IF PRESSING HARD ENOUGH. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC INDICATED ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AFTER TEST DRIVING VEHICLE & FELT THE VIBRATION.*AK THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN EXTENSIVELY ON THE EXPRESSWAY WHERE BRAKES ARE USED VERY LITTLE, THE CONSUMER FEEL THE ROTORS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED AFTER ONLY 8 MONTHS OF USE, THERE IS STILL A NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE CAR THAT WAS NOT FIXED WHEN THE ROTORS WERE RELACED. THE ENGINE WAS IDLING AND THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK IN THE OWNERS GARAGE. THE DRIVER EXITED THE CAR LEAVING THE CAR DOOR OPEN. THE VEHICLE JUMPED FROM PARK TO REVERSE AND ROLLED BACKWARDS OUT OF THE GARAGE. THE OPEN CAR DOOR FIRST HIT THE DRIVER KNOCKING THE DRIVER TO THE FLOOR, THE THE DOOR HIT THE FRONT EDGE OF THE GARAGE BENDING THE CAR DOOR BACKWARD AND PUSHING THE DOOR INTO THE VEHICLES' LEFT FRONT QUARTER PANEL.*AK
BRAKES WERE PULSATING DUE TO WARPED ROTORS, WHICH DECREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. THIS CAUSED STEERING WHEEL TO JERK VIOLENTLY. THE HIGHER THE SPEED, THE MORE PRONOUNCED IT BECAME. DEALER'S REMEDY WAS TO SHAVE DOWN THE ROTORS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH AND WITHOUT WARNING VEHICLE WILL VIBRATE VIOLENTLY. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED, AND HAS ALSO REPAIRED VEHICLE 3 DIFFERENT TIMES. HOWEVER, VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY.*AKDEALER WANTED CONSUMER TO HAVE AFTER MARKET PARTS PUT ON AT CONSUMERS EXPENSE. EVERY TIME VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIR, THE MECHANIC CLAIMS THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM BUT THE VEHICLE STILL VIBRATES. *JG
MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A NEW 2001 CHRYSLER GRAND CHEROKEE AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH OUR BRAKES, ROTORS AND CALIPERS. THE WARRANTY COVERED IT FOR THE FIRST THREE YEARS AND THE CHRYSLER MANUFACTURING PAID FOR REPAIRS UP TO NOW, BUT ARE NOW REFUSING TO PAY FOR FUTURE REPAIRS. AND IT'S DUE AGAIN, THE BRAKES AND ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED EVERY YEAR. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SECRET RECALL AND I'M SURE A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED TO ALL THE DEALER REPAIR SHOPS AND THAT ANGERS ME AND I'M SURE A LOT OF YOUR COMPLAINTS AS WELL MY WIFE AND I ARE AT OUR WIT'S END AND DON'T KNOW WHO TO TURN TO. THIS TO ME, WARRANTS A NATION WIDE RECALL, DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE CHRYSLER TAKES THIS COMPLAINT SERIOUSLY OR HAS IT ALREADY HAPPENED AND THE PEOPLE WHO INVESTIGATED THE ACCIDENT WASN'T AWARE OF THIS DANGEROUS DEFECT, WHO KNOWS? SOME JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES WERE RECALLED TO INSTALL TRAILER HITCHES TO PREVENT GAS TANK INVOLVEMENT IN THE EVENT OF REAR END COLLISIONS. MY VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INCLUDED. I DO NOT WANT MY DAUGHTER TO BE INJURED OR KILLED IF SHE IS REAR ENDED. I FEEL THAT THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH OWNERS LEFT IN THIS VEHICLE AGE GROUP TO MAKE THE OUTCRY THAT RESULTED IN THE RECALL AND FIX OF MORE RECENT MODELS. HOWEVER, THE GAS TANK IN MY MODEL IS STILL AT THE REAR AND CLEARLY VISIBLE FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP THE CAR BUT I WOULD LIKE TO FEEL THAT IT IS SAFE AND HAVE THE SAME REPAIR THAT MORE RECENT VEHICLES HAVE UNDERGONE. *TR

WAS TOWING A BOAT TRAILER. STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND PUT IN PARK. EXITED JEEP AND IT JUMPED FROM PARK TO REVERSE. VEHICLE BACKED DOWN STREET WITH BOAT ATTACHED. I CHASED AND TRIED TO JUMP IN, FELL, SCRAPING KNEE. FORTUNATELY THE TRAILER JACKNIFED AT THAT TIME JUST BEFORE THE CAR WOULD HAVE RUN OVER ME. MY BELIEF IS THAT THE FLEXIBLE PLASTIC COVER OVER THE BUTTON ONT HE SHIFT LEVER BECAME WEDGED IN THE BUTTON PREVENTING THE BUTTON FROM RELEASING AND ENABLING THE LEVER TO JUMP FROM PARK TO REVERSE.*AK
JEEP GRAND CHEROKEEE PROBLEM. CAR SLIPPED FROM PARK INTO REVERSE, SMASHED INTO CAR BEHIND ME ON THE STREET. I'D PULLED OVER TO PUT IT INTO PARK TO GET SOMETHING OUT OF THE BACKSEAT...ENGINE WAS RUNNING. I WAS AT CURB. GOT OUT, LEFT DRIVER DOOR OPEN, IT HIT ME, COULDN'T GET BACK INTO CAR TO STOP ANY OF THIS FROM HAPPENING, HAD TO LET IT GO BACK AND HIT A PARKED CAR.*AK
HEAVY TRAFFIC, STOP AND GO FOR APPROX 2 HRS, SHIFT LEVER SPONTANEOUSLY POPPED OUT OF DRIVE INTO REVERSE THEN IMMEDIATELY WENT BACK INTO THE DRIVE POSITION. THIS WHILE HAVING FOOT ON BRAKES. THIS CAUSED US TO COLLIDE WITH VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US. DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES RESULTED.*AK

AT 67 MPH WITH SPEED CONTROL ON, JEEP ACCELERATED AT MAX. SPEED. HAD TO APPLY BRAKE TO DISENGAGE CONTROL AT 80 MPH. SPEED CONTROL BUTTONS WOULD NOT WORK. HAD TO STOP AND PUT JEEP IN PARK TO TURN OFF SPEED CONTROL. SPEED CONTROL BUTTONS FAILED TO WORK WHEN RETURNED TO DRIVE. LATER THAT DAY, SPEED CONTROL WORKED NORMAL.*AK
PE O1 021/ROLLED AWAY IN PARK: WHILE PARKED WITH EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGED AND WITH THE ENGINE TURNED OFF, VEHICLE ROLLED OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND OVER A STOP SIGN. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS ON THIS MATTER.*AK
I WAS PARKED OUTSIDE OF A STORE, AND GOT OUT TO TAKE SOMETHING OUT OF THE BACK SEAT.WHEN MY TRUCK WENT INTO REVERSE AND HIT A CONCRETE BEAM. I DONT KNOW HOW BUT I HAD TIME TO GET OUT WALK TO THE BACK OPEN THE DOOR GET THE ARTICALES AND REMOVE THEM BEFORE IT POPED INTO REVERSE. *AK

WHILE FUELING VEHICLE IT SHIFTED FROM PARK INTO REVERSE, AND CAUGHT CONSUMER'S LEG BETWEEN DRIVER'S DOOR AND PROTECTIVE BARRIER OF FUEL PUMP. ROTORS HAD TO BE RESURFACED BECAUSE CAR WOULD SHAKE READY BAD WHEN BRAKING AT ANY SPEED STEERING WHEEL WOULD ALSO SHAKE REALLY BAD DURING BRAKING. *AK
AT APPROX. 50 MPH A "WHINING" SOUND STARTS IN REAR OF AUTO. AS SPEED INCREASES, THE SOUND INTENSIFIES. TAKE FOOT TOTALLY OFF ACCELERATOR AND IT STOPS.....PICKS UP AGAIN WHEN ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED. DEALER SAYS IT IS COMMON IN NEW ALL-TIME 4WD TRANSMISSION. VERY LOUD. *AK

WHEN COMING TO A STOP VEHICLE WOULD WOBBLE. HEARD A SQUEALING NOISE IN BRAKES. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND DEALER INDICATED ROTORS WERE WARPED. *AK CONSUMER STATES THE BRAKES WOULD GRAB AND THE FRONT END WAS SHAKING BADLY, THERE IS A STEERING SCUFF WHEN THE STEERING COLUMN IS TURNED AND THERE IS A SEPARATION ON THE FLOOR BOARD BETWEEN THE FLOOR AND THE WALL ON THE FLOOR, AT TIMES CONSUMER CAN SEE TO THE GROUND, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE GAP IS NORMAL.*JB
VEHICLE IS PULLING TO RIGHT AT ALL TIMES, DEALER STATED IT WAS STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY. THERE IS RECALL 01V007000/ STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY, BUT THIS VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED DUE TO VIN. *AK
MY VEHICLE, SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE, HAD JUMPED OUT OF PARK AND INTO REVERSE. THIS INCIDENCE WAS OVERLOOKED AS A POSSIBLE ERROR ON MY PART. IN APRIL OF THIS YEAR, WHILE PULLING OUT OF MY GARAGE, I PUT MY CAR INTO PARK WHILE IT WAS RUNNING, TO MOVE A TOY BEHIND MY VEHICLE. I EXITED THE VEHICLE AND PROCEEDED TO GO TO REMOVE THE TOY WHEN I REALIZED THE VEHICLE WAS NOW MOVING. I MADE ONE ATTEMPT TO GET BACK IN, NEARLY SLIPPING UNDER IT AND MADE A SECOND ATTEMPT THIS TIME SUCCEEDING BUT NOT BEFORE THE DOOR HAD CAUGHT ONTO THE CORNER OF MY HUSBANDS COMPRESSOR CAUSEING $2700.00 WORTH OF DAMAGE. I NOTIFIED THE DEALER, THEY CHECKED FOR A CAUSE, FOUND NOTHING. SHORTLY AFTER, ALL THE REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM SURFACED IN THE MEDIA. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY CLAIM THAT ONLY THE YEARS FROM 1995 TO 1999 ARE AFFECTED. HAS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM BEEN RECTIFIED IN THE 2001'S OR DO WE NEED MORE DEATHS FOR THEM TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE SUFFERED A $500.00 LOSS AND A THREE YEAR SURCHARGE ON MY INSURANCE, LOSS OF MERIT RATING AND STILL HAVE A FEAR OF POSSIBLE INJURY WITH THIS VEHICLE. PLEASE SEND ME ANY INFO AS TO WHETHER MINE IS THE FIRST CASE KNOW WITH THIS YEAR JEEP. I WENT TO GRAYSON JEEP AND REPORTED THAT I HAD POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE THAT NEEDED TO BE ADDRESSED. THE ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER REFUSED TO LOOK AT MY VEHICLE AND SAID THAT I NEEDED AN APPOINTMENT TO BE SEEN. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP HAS NO "BY APPOINTMENT ONLY" POLICY. I ASKED TO SPEAK TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. WHEN THE SERVICE MANAGER CAME OUT (J.R. LAUDERMILK), I TOLD HIM THE SITUATION AND HE RESPONDED BY SAYING THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO WORK ON MY VEHICLE SO I SHOULD LEAVE THE PROPERTY. I ASKED HIM ON WHAT GROUNDS HE REFUSED TO WORK ON MY VEHICLE AND HE RESPONDED BY SAYING THAT THEY WERE AN INDEPENDANTLY OWNED DEALERSHIP AND HE DID NOT HAVE TO HONOR MY WARRANTY IF HE DIDN'T WANT TO. I REFUSED TO LEAVE THE DEALERSHIP UNTIL I RECEIVED THE OWNERS NAME AND NUMBER. AFTER CALLING THE OWNER TO DISCUSS THE SITUATION WITH HIM HE HAS FAILED TO RETURN MY CALLS. THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR FAILING TO RESPOND TO A SAFETY RELATED ISSUE WITHOUT GROUNDS FOR DOING SO. NO SAFETY DEFECT MENTIONED. *AK
I PURCHASED/ LEASED A JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 3/24/01. THE DAY AFTER I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT, I NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION, WHEN DOWN-SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 1ST GEAR SHIFTED VERY, VERY HARD- SO HARD THAT THERE WAS A LOUD THUMPING/BANGING NOISE THAT WAS QUITE AUDIBLE AND DISTRACTING, AND ALSO THIS ABNORMAL SHIFTING CAUSED THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALER TO EXPRESS MY CONCERN OVER A NEW VEHICLE WITH SUCH A ROUGH TRANSMISSION. I WAS ASSURED BY THE SERVICE DEPT. THAT ALL THE NEW ELECTRONIC TRANSMISSIONS STARTED OFF ROUGH THE 1ST THOUSAND MILES, AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BREAK IN. I GAVE THEM THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT, ALTHOUGH I WAS VERY SKEPTICAL; NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVING EXPERIENCED SUCH A HORRIBLY ROUGH TRANSMISSION- ESP. ON A BRAND NEW VEHICLE. AFTER 1000 MILES, THERE WAS NO IMPROVEMENT, AND I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO BE EVALUATED. I WAS ASSURED BY THE MECHANIC THAT ALL THE GRAND CHEROKEES TRANSMISSIONS ARE LIKE THIS- IT'S A BUILD UP OF THE HYDROLIC FLUIDS OR SOMETHING. I ONCE AGAIN BELIEVED THEM (NOT REALLY) AND WENT ON MY WAY. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO DO THIS, THE SOUND GETTING VERY LOUD AND QUITE STARTLING AT TIMES WHILE IN TRAFFIC. IT ALSO IS QUITE EMBARASSING WITH PASSENGERS IN THE CAR WHO ALSO HAVE BECOME QUITE STARTLED BY THE LOUDNESS AND SHEER FORCE OF THE LURCHING. I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN A SECOND TIME FOR EVALUATION ONLY TO BE TOLD, NOTHING WAS WRONG. IT IS MY FEELING THAT THIS IS A SEVERE DEFECT OF SOME SORT. IN ALL MY YEARS OF DRIVING, I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH PROBLEMS- EXCEPT MAYBE FROM A MANUAL TRANSMISSION THAT BUCKED. I AM PLANNING TO TAKE MY CAR IN YET A THIRD TIME AND DEMAND THE PROBLEM BE RESOLVED, OR I WILL BE INVOKING MY RIGHTS UNDER THE LEMON LAWS. IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT PROBLEMS WITH GRAND CHEROKEES, AND THEIR SHIFTING INTO GEAR WHILE IDLING, I CANNOT SAY THAT I AM SURPRISED. MY VEHICLE ALSO WHEN SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, SOMETIMES MAKES A VERY LOUD CLUNKING, ROUGH SHIFT. PLEASE ADVISE.*AK

POWER STEERING MAKES HONKING NOISE WHEN TURNED. DEALER CLAIMS THAT THIS IS UNFIXABLE AND IS DUE TO A POWER STEERING FLUID SURGE THAT CAUSES THE HOSE TO VIBRATE. CHRYSLER'S RESPONSE IS BASICALLY TO 'LIVE' WITH IT.

WE WERE EXITING A CAR WASH.THE TRANSMISSIOM WAS IN NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE WAS IDLING AND MY FOOT WAS ON THE BREAK PEDAL.I PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO DRIVE WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE CAR LEAPED AHEAD AT FULL THROTTLE ALL 4 WHEELS PEELING RUBBER. THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK AND PUTTING THE TRANSMISSION INTO LOW HAD NO EFFECT ON THE ENGINE.WE WERE WITHIN 50 FEET OF A BUSY STATE HIGHWAY AND DIRECTLY ACROSS THE ROAD FROM A GAS STATION. IN ORDER TO NOT GO ONTO OR ACROSS THE HIGHWAY I CUT THE WHEELS SHARPLY TO THE LEFT GOING THROUGH AYARD, JUST MISSING A TREE AND TELEPHONE POLL. THE CAR IS NOW SLIDING SIDEWAYS AND HIT THE SIDE OF THE PARKING LOT NEXT TO THE CAR WASH CAUSING BOTH WHEELS AND TIRES ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TO BE SEVERLY DAMAGED AND THE CAR TO DO A 180 DEGREE SLIDE. THIS ALL TRANSPIRED IN ABOUT 4-5 SECONDS AND AT THIS POINT I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION AND THE CAR CAME TO A HALT. I REPORTED THIS TO CHRYSLER, THROUGH MY DEALER. MY DEALER WAS VERY HELPFUL AND FELT THAT THIS CAR SHOULD NOT BE ON THE HIGHWAY.CHRYSLER FELT THAT IT IS A PROBLEM BETWEEN MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND MYSELF. THERE IS NO WAY THAT I CAN EVER FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE AGAIN AND I FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AND ANYONE WHO MIGHT BE IN THE WAY OF THIS VEHICLE IF THIS EVER HAPPENS AGAIN.*AK

HARSH DOWN SHIFTING, RESULTS IN LOUD CLUNKING, REAR TIRE SQUALLING, AND PASSENGER DISCOMFORT. ROUGH SHIFTING INTO GEARS WHILE PARKED. MOANING BRAKES, WARPED ROTORS FUEL PUMP DEFICIANCIES, AND MISCELLANEUOS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS.
WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON AND GOING UP A HILL THERE IS HESITATION, AND THEN VEHICLE SLAMS INTO A LOWER GEAR. SLAM IS SO BAD THAT PASSENGERS ARE STARTLED. TOOK TO DEALER, AND THEY SAID THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.*AK CONSUMER WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP THAT THIS IS NORMAL. *JB
THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS ON MY 2001 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WARPED AT 12,000 MILES. *AK
CONSUMER IS UNABLE TO CONTROL VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING, THE STEERING WHEEL PULSATES WHEN BRAKING, CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH PREMATURE WARPAGE OF ROTORS IN WHICH DEALER IS AWARE OF AND IS WILLING TO TURN CONSUMERS ROTORS FREE OF CHARGE OR PURCHASE TWO NEW ROTORS AT CONSUMERS EXPENSE, HOWEVER CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT TURNING OF THE ROTORS WOULD NOT LAST AND THE PROBLEM WOULD REOCCUR.*JB
