COLD AIR IS DIRECTED TO THE LOWER PASSENGER SIDE VENT REGARDLESS OF CONTROL SETTINGS. (3) DUCT TAPE PLACED OVER PASSENGER LOWER AIR OUTLET. OTHER: THE PROBLEM STARTED BEFORE OUR EXTENDED 70,000 WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED BUT WE DIDN'T REALIZE THERE WAS A PROBLEM UNTIL JUST AFTER PASSING 70,000 MILES. WE KEPT TRYING TO ADJUST THE CONTROLS UNTIL IT BECAME OBVIOUS THERE WAS SOME PROBLEM WITH THE WAY THE CONTROLS WERE RESPONDING TO SETTINGS. WE ARE NOT SURE OF ALL THE EFFECTS THIS PROBLEM MAY HAVE, SUCH AS LOSS OF CONTROL OF OTHER AIR CONDITIONER / HEATER SETTINGS WHICH MAY AFFECT VISIBILITY RELATED TO THE DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER SYSTEM AS CONTROLED BY THE WINDSHIELD BLOWER. *NM

POWER WINDOW REGULATORS HAVE FAILED ON ALL FOUR WINDOWS ON MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. I KNOW THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM, AND IF ENOUGH PEOPLE HAVE BEEN AFFECTED, HOPEFULLY NHTSA WILL PRESSURE THE MANUFACTURER INTO RECALLING THESE VEHICLES. *JB
BLEND DOOR ON MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED INITIALLY STOPPED AT THAT POINT AND ONLY BLOWS COLD AIR TO THE PASSENGER. NOW A YEAR LATER I HAVE NO HEAT AT ALL. DISAPPOINTED FOR SURE AND FROM THE NUMBERS OF PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM, SEEMS TO BE DEFECTIVE FROM THE START. A RECALL SHOULD BE CALLED. 1500-1800 TO FIX ON A CAR WITH LESS THAT 43,000 MILES, GIVE ME A BREAK, NO WONDER MORE PEOPLE ARE BUYING JAPANESE. *JB
BAD DESIGN/MATERIAL OF HVAC COMPONENT , BLEND DOOR, CAUSES PART TO BRAKE, WHICH THEN DOES NOT PERMIT HEATED AIR TO DEFROST PASSENGER'S SIDE OF FRONT WINDSHIELD, ICE BUILDS UP ON WINDSHIELD, CAUSING POOR VISABILITY.*AK
SEVERAL MONTHS AGO I LOST HEAT ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE IN MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED 4X4 SPORT UTILITY 4DR. I HAD BEEN TRYING TO SAVE UP SOME MONEY TO GO HAVE THIS FIXED,AND HAD BEEN SEARCHING ALL OVER THE INTERNET LOOKING ON JEEP' WEBSITES EVEN, TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY JEEP. THEN ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2006, THE DRIVER SIDE HEAT QUIT WORKING DURING A SNOW STORM. I LEFT WORK ABOUT 5:00 PM AND IT WAS SNOWING AND STARTING TO FREEZE. THE WINDOWS WERENT GETTING FOGGY OR ANYTHING THEY WHERE JUST ICING UP IT GOT TO THE POINT WHERE I COULD ONLY SEE OUT OF A LITTLE SPOT RIGHT WHERE THE FAN BLEW ON THE WINDOW. I WENT 35 MPH ON A 65 MPH SPEED ZONE BECAUSE ONCOMING TRAFFIC WOULD TEMPORARILY BLIND ME. I DON'T LIVE IN FLORIDA, I LIVE IN MONTANA. WHAT ARE PEOPLE AROUND HERE SUPPOSE TO DO WHEN THIS HAPPENS TO THEM. STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO SCRAPE THE ICE OF THEIR WINDOWS, AS ANOTHER VEHICLE PLOWS OVER THEM, DUE TO THE ICY ROAD CONDITIONS. IN MONTANA WE HAVE LONG COMMUTES, SOME PEOPLE DRIVE FROM RED LODGE ALL THE WAY TO BILLINGS. IT TAKES AN HOUR AND TO 2 HOURS DEPENDING ON THE WEATHER. WE DON'T HAVE TAXIS. THIS PROBLEM CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME. THIS MAY NOT BE A PROBLEM TO PEOPLE IN A WARMER CLIMATE, BUT IT IS TO PEOPLE UP NORTH. A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN 1999-2004 MODEL GRAND CHEROKEES HAS BEEN WEAK BLEND AND RECIRCULATION DOORS IN THE HVAC SYSTEMS. IN JANUARY OF 2004 JEEP ISSUED AN INFORMATIONAL TSB (#24-001-04) WHICH INTRODUCED NEWLY DESIGNED SUB ASSEMBLIES. THIS IS A THREATENING PROBLEM TO JEEPS CONSUMERS, ESPECIALLY THE ONES IN COLDER CLIMATES. I CAN'T AFFORD JEEPS MISTAKES, WHETHER IT'S FINANCIALLY FOR PHYSICAL. *NM
REPLACEMENT OF BROKEN BLEND DOOR AND LEAKING HEATER CORE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED ON THREE OCCASIONS, AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FOR A SHORT DISTANCE THEN TURNED OFF, AND THEN TURNED ON 15 MINUTES LATER, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY AFTER BEING PUT INTO DRIVE. THE ENGINE HAD TO BE TURNED OFF TO STOP THE ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE COMPUTER FOUND NO CODES AND THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. UPDATED 12/12/2006 - THE JEEP IS PRESENTLY PARKED IN THE CONSUMER'S GARAGED BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED A NHTSA RECALL LETTER #F25 FOR THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING: COOLING SYSTEM: FAN, WAS RECEIVED TWO MONTHS AFTER THE ELECTRIC FAN BLADE MODULE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO REIMBURSE THE CONTACT DUE TO THE MODULE BEING REPLACED AND NOT JUST THE FAN BLADES. UPDATED 1/19/2007 - THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN OVERHEATING AS A RESULT OF THE FAILURE. *NM
I EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE ON MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE (59,000 MILES). AFTER BRAKING TO TURN A CORNER THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK. THIS OCCURRED OVER SEVERAL INSTANCES AND BECAME VERY UN-NERVING NOT KNOWING WHEN THE BRAKES WOULD WORK. I TOOK IT TO THE JEEP DEALER AND HE STATED THAT HE REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER. HE ALSO SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE BRAKE RECALL SO I HAD TO PAY SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS TO GET IT REPAIRED OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. I CONTACTED JEEP AND THEY WERE NO HELP AND WOULDN'T AGREE TO PAY ANYTHING. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED ALL THE TIRES WERE LOSING AIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, WHO DETERMINED THE RIMS WERE CUTTING INTO THE BEAD OF THE TIRES AND CAUSING THE TIRES TO LOSE AIR. THE RIMS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
I HAVE A 2002 GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND. I REALIZED MY HEATER VENTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WEREN'T WORKING AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS BEYOND THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THE FAILURE WAS LONG BEFORE 36,000 MILES BUT IT WAS TOO LATE FOR THE PROBLEM TO BE COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER WHO TOLD ME THE VENT-AIR DOOR HAD FAILED. THE COST TO REPAIR WAS QUOTED AT BEING AROUND $1300. I THOUGHT IT STRANGE THAT A FAILURE OF THIS TYPE WOULD OCCUR ESPECIALLY IN A VEHICLE WITH LOW MILEAGE. I HAVEN'T GOT THE VEHICLE REPAIRED YET BUT IT IS CERTAINLY AN AGGRAVATION IN THE WINTER. I TALKED TO TWO PEOPLE WHERE I WORK WHO OWN GRAND CHEROKEES AND BOTH THEIR JEEPS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. SEEMS LIKE AN UNUSUAL COINCIDENCE. AFTER CHECKING ON THE INTERNET IT APPEARS A LOT OF JEEP OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME HEATER-VENT DOOR PROBLEMS. SOUNDS LIKE A DESIGN PROBLEM TO ME THAT JEEP OWNERS ARE PAYING THE PRICE FOR. *TR
2002 GRAND CHEROKEE DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL LOST HEAT IN BOTH ZONES. *TS THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE WEAK BLEND AND RECIRCULATION DOORS IN THE HVAC SYSTEM. THE DOORS ARE TURNED BY A MOTOR ATTACHED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR AT THE END OF A HINGE SHAFT. THE MOTOR STOPS TURNING WHEN THERE IS ENOUGH PHYSICAL RESISTANCE FROM THE DOOR STOPPING AGAINST ITS HOUSING. THIS PUTS STRESS ON THE SHAFT/DOOR JUNCTION AND OVER TIME STRIPS THE SHAFT SO THAT IT SPINS ALMOST INDEPENDENTLY OF THE DOOR. THE MOTOR THEN EXPERIENCES LITTLE RESISTANCE AND KEEPS TURNING. *JB
I AM HEARING A GRINDING SOUND UNDER MY DASH WHICH IS ONE OF THE REPORTED FIRST SYSTEM OF A FAILURE. *JB
WINDSHIELD FOGS TO POINT OF ZERO VISABILITY. HVAC HAS FAILED - NO HEAT FROM ANY VENT. THE WINDSHIELD WILL NOT DEFROST/DEFOG MAKING THE VEHICLE EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO OPERATE IN RAIN AND COLD WEATHER. *NM
2002 JEEP WITH BROKEN WINDOW REGULATOR AND MOTOR**NAR**CC THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW WOULD NOT OPERATE AND IT WAS IN THE DOWN POSITION. THE SECOND TIME THE PROBLEM HAPPENED, THE WINDOW WAS ROLLED DOWN ABOUT 2 INCHES, BUT IT CONTINUED TO ROLL ITSELF DOWN. *JB

THE HEATING/AIR CONDITIONING ON MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED IS MALFUNCTIONING. IT BLOWS OUT COLD AIR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEN I'M CALLING FOR HEAT. *TR
ON 10-30-06 THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW OF MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FAILED. I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT IT WAS PROBABLY A REGULATOR AND THE COST WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $550.00. THE JEEP HAS 33,000 MILE ON IT AND HAS A 7 YEAR 70,000 MILE WARRANTY, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. I HAD IT REPLACED AT SUPERIOR WINDOW GLASS, THE PART AND LABOR COSTS WERE $343.00. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY DAIMLER CHRYSLER CORPORATION. *JB
I SEE MY FIRST COMPLAINT ABOUT MY 02 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND. MY SECOND COMPLAINT DIDN'T MAKE IT ON THE LIST. SINCE THEN I'VE HAVE 2 MORE WINDOW REGULATORS GO OUT. WROTE LETTERS TO JEEP AND ANYONE I CAN THINK OF. NO RESPONCES!!! THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. WE WERE OUT TO DINNER AND THE WINDOW RIGHT NEXT TO THE INFANT CAR SEAT HAD FALLEN INTO THE DOOR AND A VERY COLD NIGHT IT WAS. ON OUR WAY HOME, THE OTHER WINDOW HAD FALLEN INTO THE DOOR. NOW THERE IS NO WAY TO PROTECT THE BABY IN THE BACK IN THE BABY SEAT STRAPPED IN WITH TWO OPEN WINDOWS BLOWING COLD AIR AT HIM. WHAT IF HIS CAR SEAT WOULD HAVE BEEN STOLEN WHEN WE WERE IN THE RESTAURANT??? HOW WOULD HAVE WE GOT HIM HOME SAFELY. WHAT IF IT HAD BEEN RAINING OR SNOWING ON HIM ALL THE WAY HOME?? WHAT IF I WAS RIDING ALONE AND HAD BEEN CAR JACKED?? WHAT IF WAS REALLY INCLEMENT WEATHER AFFECTING THE INSIDE OF MY VEHICLE ALL THAT NIGHT AND NOT KNOWING THAT THE WINDOWS HAD FALLEN INTO THE DOORS??? I REALLY DON'T FEEL SAFE TAKING THE BABY IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLE WITH ME ANY MORE. WHY DID I PAY SO MUCH MONEY FOR THE "VALUED JEEP" I PURCHASED WHEN SO MUCH IS GOING WRONG WITH IT. I ONLY HAVE 46000 MILES ON IT NOW. CHRYSLER REALLY NEEDS TO STAND UP TO IT'S FAULTS WITH THEIR VEHICLES AND HELP PAY FOR "THEIR" CUSTOMERS THAT TRUST IN THEM!!!!!!!!!! *NM

CRUISE CONTROL UNIT MALFUNCTIONS, CRUISE CONTROL ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN WHEN ACTIVATING THE RESUME FEATURE ON THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROL WILL NOT RESUME TO PRESET SPEED AND ACCELERATES, ACTIVATING BRAKE PEDAL DISENGAGEMENT SWITCH ONLY TEMPORARILY WORKS IT REACCELERATES ON ITS OWN. *NM
IN THE FALL OF 2006, THE HEAT IN MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE STOPPED WORKING. I DID SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND THIS PROBLEM WAS SO COMMON THAT I EASILY FOUND PLENTY OF PEOPLE WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THAT WERE ABLE TO SELF-DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM USING THE JEEP'S INTERNAL COMPUTER TO OUTPUT THE SYSTEM FAULTS. USING THE SAME METHOD TO ENTER THE AZC SELF-DIAGNOSTIC MODE, THE CLIMATE CONTROL DISPLAY OUTPUTTED THE SYSTEM FAULT CODES 52-54-56. SINCE MOST OF THE CONSUMERS I'VE RUN INTO WITH THIS PROBLEM GET THAT EXACT CODE, OR HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM DIAGNOSED BY A JEEP DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT, I ALREADY KNOW THAT IT WILL COST ANYWHERE FROM $1000+ TO BE REPAIRED, THE MAJORITY OF IT BEING LABOR AS THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY HAS TO BE REMOVED. TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM, DAIMLER-CHRYSLER RELEASED TSB 2400104 - NEW HVAC SUB-ASSEMBLY REPLACES BLEND OR RECIRC DOOR COMPONENTS. EACH NEW SUB-ASSEMBLY CONSISTS OF SEVERAL INDIVIDUAL COMPONENTS. THE NEW SUB-ASSEMBLIES IMPROVE COMPONENT RELIABILITY. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE RESPECTIVE SUB-ASSEMBLY BE INSTALLED IF A BLEND AIR DOOR(S), A RECIRCULATION DOOR, A DOOR LINK, OR A SUB-ASSEMBLY HOUSING REQUIRES REPLACEMENT. THESE NEW PARTS COST LESS THAN $200 ACCORDING TO THE BULLETIN, BUT I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT DAIMLER-CHRYSLER EXPECTS THEIR CUSTOMERS TO PICK UP THE TAB ON A DESIGN FLAW. ESPECIALLY A DESIGN FLAW THAT IS SO LABOR INTENSIVE THAT EVEN THOUGH THE PARTS ARE LESS THAN $200, THE FINAL BILL WILL BE MORE THAN $1,000. A JOB SO CONSUMING THAT IT WOULDN'T BE WISE TO HAVE IT SERVICED BY ANYTHING BUT A JEEP SERVICE TECHNICIAN. NOT TO MENTION SOME REPAIR SHOPS WON'T EVEN TAKE ON THE JOB DUE TO THE TIME AND POSSIBLE ACCOUNTABILITY OF SUCH A PROJECT. TO MAKE A VEHICLE WHERE THE HEAT DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY IS UNACCEPTABLE AND MOST LIKELY DANGEROUS. NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF THE EFFECTS EXTREME COLD CAN HAVE ON A BODY, BUT ALSO DUE TO THE HEAT BEING USED FOR DEFROSTING. IT COST $884.00 TO REPAIR. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER DID NOT WORK. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHO DETERMINED THE MID CASE BLEND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED, WHO EXPRESSED THE FAILURE WAS NOT A SAFETY FEATURE AND THE REPAIR MUST BE COVERED BY THE CONTACT. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN BECAUSE A LACK OF VISIBILITY SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY RISK AND THE REPAIR WAS RATHER EXPENSIVE.
UNABLE TO REMEDY SAFETY RECALL F25 - ELECTRIC RADIATOR FAN. *NM
I AM CONTACTING THE NHTSA DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW IN THE HVAC SYSTEM OF OF 1999 - 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES. THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM IS THE EXACT SAME ONE THAT COUNTLESS OTHERS HAVE BEEN IN COMMUNICATION. WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM DUE TO THE WEAK BLEND AND RECIRCULATION DOORS IN THE HVAC SYSTEMS. THE DOORS ARE TURNED BY A MOTOR ATTACHED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR AT THE END OF A HINGE SHAFT. THE MOTOR STOPS TURNING WHEN THERE IS ENOUGH PHYSICAL RESISTANCE FROM THE DOOR STOPPING AGAINST ITS HOUSING. ESPECIALLY A DESIGN FLAW THAT IS SO LABOR INTENSIVE THAT EVEN THOUGH THE PARTS ARE LESS THAN $200, THE FINAL BILL WILL BE IN THE $1,000 AREA. BECAUSE IT IS NO RECALL FOR THIS, THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THIS FALLS TO THE CONSUMER, DESPITE THIS BEING A VERY OBVIOUS CASE OF BAD DESIGN. THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THIS FAILURE OTHER THAN DAIMLER CHRYSLER SELLING A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT TO THE PUBLIC. A DEFECT THAT EFFECTS A VERY BASIC NECESSITY - HEAT. THIS FAILURE RESULTS IN NOT ONLY AN UNACCEPTABLE COMFORT FACTOR, BUT ALSO EFFECTS VISIBILITY WHEN HOT AIR NEEDS TO BE DIRECTED TOWARD THE FRONT WIND SHIELD TO ELIMINATE FOGGING. AS OF THIS TIME, I AM WAITING FOR A RESPONSE TO THIS ISSUE BEFORE I CONSIDER SPENDING OVER $1,000 ON A DESIGN FLAW. *JB

TO MY KNOWLEDGE, THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND WILL AFFECT EVERY 1999-2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH AUTO CLIMATE CONTROL. THE DEALERSHIPS REQUEST A RIDICULOUSLY HIGH PRICE FOR REPAIRS. JEEP/CHRYSLER SHOULD STEP UP AND CORRECT THIS MALFUNCTION IN THEIR FAULTY PRODUCT. *JB
AIR CONDITIONING SUBASSEMBLY BLEND MODE DOORS ARE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ON, AIR WILL BLOW ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BUT NOT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. *TR

I HAVE A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND THAT HAD APPROXIMATELY 46,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT. IT WAS A PREVIOUSLY OWNED VEHICLE AND ABOUT 6 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE, I TURNED ON THE HEATER AND THERE WAS NOTHING BUT COLD AIR BLOWING. WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALER TO GET IT FIXED, THEY SAID IT COULD BE A SIMPLE COMPUTER PROBLEM, OR A MAJOR MECHANICAL PROBLEM, WHERE THE VENTS GET STUCK. IT ENDED UP BEING THE MAJOR ONE, AND THEY SAID IT WAS COMMON FOR THIS TO HAPPEN ON THIS MODEL JEEP. THEY INSTALLED NEW BLEND DOORS AND ACTUATOR MOTORS, WHICH COST ME ABOUT $1,200. IT IS SO COSTLY BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO REMOVE THE ENTIRE DASH TO REACH THE PROBLEM. THE LABOR WAS $776.04 AND THE PARTS WERE $389.47 AFTER IT WAS RETURNED, ABOUT A MONTH LATER, MY CAR WOULDN'T START UP, BECAUSE THE DEALER DID NOT FULLY CONNECT A WIRE HARNESS BACK TOGETHER, SO IT VIBRATED LOOSE AND WOULDN'T ALLOW THE KEYS TO START THE IGNITION. THIS IS A SAFETY FEATURE OF THE VEHICLE, WHERE THE KEYS HAVE TO BE PROGRAMMED TO WORK IN THE IGNITION. IT MADE IT SO IT DIDN'T READ MY PREVIOUSLY PROGRAMMED WORKING KEYS. I ENDED UP BEING STRANDED ABOUT 10 MILES FROM THE DEALER. THANKS TO AAA, THEY CAME AND PICKED THE CAR UP, AND THEN TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, WHICH THEY FIXED THAT FOR FREE, ON ACCOUNT OF IT BEING THEIR FAULT. *NM
HVAC BLEND DOORS FAIL CAUSING INADEQUATE DEFROSTING OF WINDSHIELD. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED A NHTSA RECALL LETTER # 06V199000 REGARDING THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING: COOLING SYSTEM: FAN WAS RECEIVED AFTER THE FAN BLADES FRACTURED AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE RADIATOR AND THE ENGINE, WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH. AN INDEPENDENT SERVICE DEALER REPLACED THE FAN AND REPAIRED THE RADIATOR. THEN THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SERVICE DEALER FOR REPAIR TO THE ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSES THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE FRONT END SHAKES. WHILE DRIVING DURING THE WINTER MONTHS AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE FRONT END SHAKING CAUSES THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. HE EXAMINED THE BRAKES AND NOTICED THAT THE ROTORS WERE WARPED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT SERVICED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,340 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
HEATER/DEFROSTER STOPPED BLOWING WARM REGARDLESS OF HEAT SWITCH POSITION. WENT TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD ALL HEATER/BLEND DOORS WERE BROKEN. THEY WERE ALL REPLACED, AND IT TOOK 3 DAYS FOR THEM TO FINISH. *NM
NO HEAT ON PASSENGER SIDE. RECIRCULATION DOES NOT WORK. BLOWER FAN INTERMITTENT. REPAIRS ARE TOO COSTLY...ESTIMATED TO BE $1,500. *TR
I BOUGHT MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE NEW. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE REGULATOR IN THE WINDOW MECHANISM THREE TIMES. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW WENT OUT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WENT OUT AFTER THREE YEARS AND THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW WENT OUT SIX MONTHS LATER. IN ALL CASES WHEN THIS HAPPENED THE WINDOW FALLS DOWN INTO THE DOOR AND WILL NOT STAY IN THE UP POSITION. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS DURING A FREEZING RAIN STORM WITH MY 16-MONTH OLD IN THE BACK SEAT. NOT BEING ABLE TO KEEP A WINDOW CLOSED IS A HAZARD IN MANY WAYS. THINGS CAN BLOW INTO THE VEHICLE, THINGS CAN BLOW OUT OF THE VEHICLE INTO THE ROADWAY, ETC. WHEN I MENTIONED TO THE DEALER THAT REPLACED THE MOST RECENT REGULATOR THAT THREE OF THE SAME COMPONENT GOING OUT WAS A LITTLE MORE THAN A COINCIDENCE, HE AGREED AND SAID THEIR SHOP HAD REPLACED QUITE A FEW OF THOSE LATELY. I HAVE LITERALLY ROLLED DOWN THE BACK WINDOW LESS THAN 20 TIMES EVER SINCE HAVING THE VEHICLE SO I KNOW IT IS NOT "WEAR AND TEAR." THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A COMPONENT DEFECT. *NM
THE BLEND DOORS ON MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH AUTOMATIC CLIMATE CONTROL HAVE FAILED. FIRST THE PASSENGER SIDE BLEND DOOR FAILED AND WOULD ONLY BLOW COLD AIR, WHILE THE DRIVERS COULD BLOW WARM AIR. NOW THE DRIVERS SIDE BLEND DOOR HAS FAILED AS WELL AND WILL ONLY BLOW COLD AIR. IT COSTS OVER $1000 AT THE JEEP DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR A BLEND DOOR SINCE IT REQUIRES COMPLETE REMOVAL OF THE DASH ASSEMBLY. THE JEEP DEALERSHIP SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID BLEND DOOR FAILURE IS A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THE 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM SINCE THIS THE FRONT WINDSHIELD DEFOGGER BECOMES INEFFECTIVE WHEN THE BLEND DOOR IS BROKEN. *JB
IT APPEARS THAT ALL JEEPS FROM 99-04 HAVE A BLEND DOOR MALFUNCTION. I BOUGHT MY JEEP USED IN 2006 IT IS A 2002 WITH 62000 MILE ON IT BOUGHT IT IN THE SUMMER AND IT WAS 100 DEGREES OUT. HAD NO IDEA THAT THE HEATER DID NOT FUNCTION 2 MONTHS LATER THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED AND I WAS IN THE COLD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. CONTACTED DEALER SCHEDULED REPAIR HAD TO PAY HALF OF THE $840.00 BILL. WAS TOLD IT WOULD PROBABLY DO THIS AGAIN, SINCE IT IS AN ALL TO COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE DUAL TEMP ELECTRONIC CLIMATE ZONE MODELS. JUST THANKFUL NO ONE GOT HURT IF WINDOW WAS UNABLE TO DEFROST AND CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *JB
MY 8 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER HAD A PULMONARY APPOINTMENT. WE WERE LEAVING THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE, A LOT OF TRAFFIC, I DROVE ON THE ON RAMP TO THE HIGHWAY 285 WESTBOUND. WHILE DRIVING ONTO THE INTERSTATE, MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE '02, A BEEP SOUNDED, I LOOKED AT THE DASHBOARD AND THE "AIRBAG" LIGHT CAME ON AND WITHIN NOT EVEN A SECOND, BOTH AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE STEERING WHEEL IS DESTROYED, THE DASHBOARD AND THE FRONT GLASS. SMELL AND SMOKE FILLED THE SUV WHILE I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE SUV OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. MY CHILD WAS CRYING FROM BEING SO SCARED. I CALLED THE DEALER THAT I ALWAYS USED TO SERVICE MY JEEP TO SEE IF I COULD DRIVE OFF THE HIGHWAY. I WAS AFRAID BEING ON A BUSY ATLANTA HIGHWAY, A CRYING 8 YEAR OLD AND SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE SUV. THEY TOLD ME NO AND TO CALL CHRYSLER FOR TOW. I DID AND THEY WERE GOING TO TAKE ME TO THE NEAREST JEEP DEALER (ROSWELL, GA) BUT WOULD BE 50 MIN. WAIT. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT I WAS ON AN EXTREME BUSY HIGHWAY, AND 8 YEAR OLD AND HAD TO GET OFF THIS HIGHWAY NOW. WHILE TALKING, A TOW TRUCK PULLED OFF IN FRONT OF ME. HE SPOKE TO CHRYSLER AND ARRANGED FOR "PAYMENT DIRECTLY FROM CHRYSLER" AND DROVE US TO ROSWELL, GA. THE DEALER WOULD NOT GIVE ME A RENTAL CAR. I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I GOT RENTAL WHICH THE DEALERSHIP CALLED HERTZ FOR ME AND THEY (HERTZ) PICKED MY CHILD UP AND MYSELF AND DROVE US TO THEIR SHOP TO GET A CAR. I AM NOW DRIVING A RENTAL AND HAVE NO IDEAL WHO IS PAYING FOR THIS. MY HUSBAND CALLED THE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT TOUCH THE SUV AND SOMEONE FROM CHRYLSER SAFETY LOOKED AT THE CAR. I JUST CALLED CHRYLSER'S 1-800 NUMBER AND TOLD THEM THE INCIDENT AND WANTED A PERSON'S NAME, NUMBER AND HOW IS THIS PROCEDURE HANDLED. I WAS TOLD BY "LACHINA" (SPELLING?) THAT IT WAS USUALLY 3 BUSINESS DAYS, NO PERSON CONTACT BUT YET "SOMEONE SHOULD CALL ME PRIOR TO VIEWING." I ASKED HOW MY RENTAL SITUATION WOULD BE HANDLED AND SHE DID NOT KNOW. *JB
PROBLEM STARTED RIGHT AFTER I PURCHASED MY 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED IN OCT 2006. PASSENGER SIDE HEAT VENTS STARTED BLOWING REALLY COLD AIR. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC..HE SAID THE BLEND DOORS WERE BAD. IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. WELL I GOT THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT THE JEEP FROM TO PAY FOR IT WHICH WAS AROUND $900. WELL THEN IN JAN 2008 MY HEAT STARTED TURNING ON AND OFF BY ITSELF. FINALLY YESTERDAY 1/30/08 MY HEAT JUST STOPPED WORKING. I CALLED MY WARRANTY PROVIDER..OF COURSE THIS IS NOT COVERED. I CALLED JEEP DEALERSHIP SAID IT WILL COST $1200 TO FIX THE EVERYTHING. IT IS -24 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND MY WINDOW KEEPS FOGGING UP THEN FREEZING..A TOTAL SAFETY ISSUE. I DO NOT HAVE THIS TYPE OF MONEY TO FIX IT. I HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER AND I DID NOT GET ANYWHERE WITH THEM. SAME VOICE RECORDED MESSAGE. THE CAR DOES NOT BLOW HEAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. APPARENTLY THERE IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE BLEND DOORS AND THE ACTUATORS. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS IN THE WINTER WHEN THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE JEEP DOES NOT DEFROST BECAUSE NO WORM AIR BLOWS OUT. NO VISIBILITY. *TR

UNDER NORMAL USE THESE BLEND DOORS FAIL AND REQUIRE A $1800 FIX THAT REQUIRES TOTAL DISASSEMBLY OF THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE BY A TRAINED DEALER MECHANIC. WHEN I PHONE MY LOCAL DEALER HERE IN YANKTON SD, THE SERVICE REP ACTUALLY COMPLETED MY SENTENCE WHEN I WAS DESCRIBING THE PROBLEM. HE INDICATES THIS IS A REPEATING ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE GRAND CHEROKEE. HE EVEN DESCRIBED THE IMPAIRED VISION AS A RESULT OF THE VERY WELL KNOWN MALFUNCTION. HE TOLD MY WIFE AND I THAT UNLESS THERE IS A SEVERE CHANCE OF PERSONAL INJURY JEEP WILL NOT STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS POOR DESIGN FLAW. ALSO HE INDICATED IT MAY COST AS MUCH AS $1500 TO FIX. HE SUGGESTED I STUFF PLASTIC BAGS INTO THE HEAT DUCT TO STOP THE FLOW OF COLD AIR UNTIL I GET IT REPAIRED. HE COMMENTED THAT POOR VISIBILITY WILL CONTINUE IF NOT WORSEN BY DOING SO. PLAIN AND SIMPLE, JEEP NEEDS TO TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THEIR DESIGN FLAW. THE KNOW THE PROBLEM IS THEIRS BUT CONTINUE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS FOR THEIR OWN DOING. IF I WANTED THIS KIND OF TREATMENT, I WOULD OF PURCHASED A GM. AT APPROXIMATELY 9:20 AM ON 09/19/06 ONE OF MY CAR WASH EMPLOYEES WAS PULLING A CUSTOMERS CAR FORWARD OUT OF THE CAR WASH BAY AND SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL CROSSING BOTH THE WESTBOUND AND EASTBOUND LANES OF FULLERTON AVE AND CRASHING INTO A TREE ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE CAR WASH. THE CAR SUFFERED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE AND MY EMPLOYEE WAS TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO ILLINOIS MASONIC AND IS CURRENTLY HOSPITALIZED FROM THE INJURIES HE SUSTAINED AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT. *NM
