2004 GRAND CHEROKEE. CONSUMER STATES PULSE MODULE PROBLEM. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT CEASED TO FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A BAD PLUG CONNECTOR. THEY REPAIRED THE CONNECTOR BY CLEANING AND RE-INSTALLING THE PINS AT A COST OF $170.00. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THE UNIT ONCE AGAIN CEASED TO FUNCTION. THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAD TO WIGGLE THE PLUG IN ORDER FOR IT TO WORK AND IT ONLY WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED A REPAIR KIT WAS AVAILABLE WITH REPLACEMENT PARTS. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THEY WOULD SHIP THE PARTS TO HIS HOMETOWN. IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY 2 1/2 MONTHS FOR THE PARTS TO ARRIVE ONLY AFTER NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS. UPON INSPECTING THE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS, THE CONSUMER FOUND THAT THEY WERE BADLY BURNED AND THE WIRES WERE MELTED. *JB
THE WIRES IN THE WIRING HARNESS THAT GOES THROUGH DRIVER DOOR GET FRAYED WITH TIME FROM NORMAL DOOR OPENING AND CLOSING. THIS DISABLES ALL POWER WINDOWS, DOORS, MIRRORS, ETC IN THE CAR. EVEN AFFECTS INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. RE-OPENING AND CLOSING DOOR MAY RESULT IN CONTINUED OPERATION OF POWER WINDOWS, MIRRORS, ETC, BUT IT IS UNPREDICTABLE. *TR
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) MY DRIVER SEAT TRACK BROKE FOR MY 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ON THE RIGHT SIDE NEXT TO THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. IT SNAPPED IN HALF AND WHILE RESEARCHING ON THE WEB I FOUND A WEBSITE THAT EVERYONE ELSE IS VOICING THERE CONCERN. MY SEAT IS SWAYING SIDE TO SIDE AND WHEN I AM DRIVING MY SEAT LEANS BACK FAR. WHEN CALLING THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THAT THIS IS NOT A KNOWN ISSUE AND THAT IT WILL COST ME BETWEEN 600-800 TO FIX. THIS IS UPSETTING WHEN I CAN WELD IT TOGETHER, BUT WHEN I GET IN A ACCIDENT WILL THAT HOLD? IT IS A TERRIBLE PRODUCT AND THE METAL SHOULD HAVE BEEN STRONGER AND THICKER. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH TOWARD A GREEN LIGHT TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, THE VEHICLE THEN SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER THEREFORE THE DRIVER COULD NOT MAKE A RIGHT TURN AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED DRIVING NT STRAIGHT AHEAD. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH HEAD ON INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES TO AVOID THE CRASH. THE DRIVER TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE DRIVER ALSO PAID $500 AND THE DEALER ONLY CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS AND STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING ELSE WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER STATED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS STILL AT THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE ENCOURAGED HER TO PICK IT UP. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,500. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,500.
MY 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED HAS EITHER A HOLE IN ONE OF THE PISTONS OR A BROKEN CONNECTING ROD. THIS JUST HAPPENED ONE DAY AS I LEFT WORK. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY AND RAN VERY ROUGH. *TR

THE DEALER ADVISED THE VEHICLE COULD BE REPAIRED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 140,000.
DRIVING 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LTD ON SERVICE ROAD OF I75 IN DALLAS. NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS AND VISIBILITY. SUDDEN ENGINE ACCELERATION WHICH COULD NOT BE SLOWED BY BRAKING AND SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL. TO AVOID A REAR END COLLISION, THE JEEP CRASHED HEAD-ON THROUGH IRON FENCING AND INTO TREES. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CAR WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. I HAD THE CAR INSPECTED BY MASTER MECHANICS BEFORE IT WAS TAKEN OFF BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THEIR REPORT SAID THAT THE "THROTTLE CABLE LINKAGE SLEEVE SLID UNDER THE THROTTLE BODY PIVOT CAUSING THE THROTTLE TO REMAIN OPEN." *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE SEATS, FRONT ASSEMBLY SEAT HEATER/COOLER (09V117000). AFTER HAVING THE REMEDY REPAIR DONE, THE DRIVERS FRONT HEATED SEAT WAS INOPERABLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT WAS INOPERABLE; THEREFORE, THE HEATED SEAT ELEMENT WOULD NOT WORK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT WAS OPERATING CORRECTLY BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT HAD NOT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,000.
2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LTD OVERLAND WINDOW ON FRONT PASSENGER SIDE, SUDDENLY FELL DOWN INTO DOOR. (THEY ARE ELECTRIC WINDOWS.) AWAY FROM HOME AND FEMALE, INCLEMENT WEATHER, AND UNABLE TO LOCK CAR TO SECURE WHILE DOING BUSINESS IN AN AREA THAT WAS NOT VERY SAFE. SITS ON PLASTIC TRACK AND NAPA SAID IT IS A KNOWN OCCURRENCE, REPLACED WITH METAL TRACK. TWO MONTHS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO THE DRIVERS WINDOW, PARKED FOR EVENT CAME OUT THAT WINDOW IS HALF WAY DOWN. HAD GUEST TRAVELING WITH ME 30 HAD TO DRIVE 30 MILES AT NIGHT ON FREEWAY, INCLEMENT WEATHER WITH WINDOW DOWN. JUST WAITING FOR THE BACK WINDOWS TO FALL INTO DOOR, WILL REPLACE WHEN I CAN AFFORD TO. THIS IS DEFINATELY A MANUFACTURES DEFECT.*TR
2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. 76,000 MILES. PURCHASED NEW, I AM THE ONLY OWNER. WHILE TURNING INTO WORK, THE DRIVER SEAT BRACKET (THE BRACKET THAT CONNECTS THE SEAT TO THE FLOOR) BROKE IN THE FRONT LEFT (IF LOOKING FORWARD). NOW THE SEAT SWAYS AND ALL OF THE WEIGHT IS STRESSED ON JUST ONE CORNER OF THE BRACKET. ACCORDING TO ONLINE REPORTS, THIS COSTS UP TO $1000 TO GET FIXED AT A DEALER. 1/27/10 A RECEIVED IN THE MAIL A SAFETY RECALL J14-HEATED SEAT ELEMENTS, CHRYSLER GROUP AND DEALERSHIP ONLY FIX THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, AND THE DRIVER SEAT WAS WAS NOT FIX IT WAS DISCONECTED AWAITNG FOR A COVER SEAT, AND AS OF 6/7/12 THE PROBLEM IS NOT FIX, CHRYSLER FIRTS CALIMED THAT THE WORK WAS COMPLETED ON MAY 2010, I TOLD THEM NO ONLY ONE SEAT WAS FIXED, THEY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND CONFIRMED MY STORY, AND NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE IN STOCK A SEAT COVER AND THAT I HAVE TO CONTINUE WAITING, I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR MORE THAN 2 YEARS AND HAVE BEEN MORE THAN PATIENT, I WANT CHRYSLER TO PAY ME SO THAT I CAN HAVE THIS FIX AT A LOCATION THAT I FEEL CONFIDENT BECAUSE I DO NOT TRUST CHRYSLER OR THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP IN RANDOLPH NJ, IF I WAS TO SELL MY VEHICLE I WILL LOOSE VALUE BECAUSE ONE SEAT IS NOT WORKING AND I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE MY HEATED SEAT IN MORE THAN 2 YEARS, THIS IS UNACEPTABLE, CHRYSLER GROUP DID NOT COMPLY WITH THE SAFETY RECALL. *JS
I OWN A JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2004--THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING IS WITH THE STEERING. IT IS VERY HARD TO STEER TO THE RIGHT THE WHEEL LOCKS AND I CANNOT TURN. I TOOK THE JEEP TO HAYES CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED A POWER STEERING PUMP AND PRESSURE LINE AND A POWER STEERING GEAR BOX. THE TOTAL QUOTE IS $1601.00--I COULD NOT AFFORD THAT SO I TOOK IT TO MIDAS AND THEY ADVISED ME THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS PART AND JEEP SHOULD REPLACE THE PART FREE OF CHARGE. I PULLED THE RECALL NOTICE AND IT DOES STATE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND IT WOULD BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER AND ALSO CHRYSLER THAT MY VN # WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST....I AM VERY UPSET BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS DOING THE SAME THING AS STATED IN THE RECALL BUT SINCE MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT LISTED THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING. PLEASE ADVISE ME WHAT IC AN DO AT THIS POINT. WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE I TOOK IT BACK THE SAME MONTH AND TOLD THEM SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE STEERING I DO HAVE DOCUMENTATION. I HAVE A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT HAS THE HEATED SEAT ISSUE, RECALL J14 AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP 3 WEEKS AGO WITHOUT A RESPONSE. THEY SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR ME TO GO IN JAN. 7TH TO GET IT FIXED AND WHEN I WENT IN THEY NEVER EVEN HAD THE PARTS TO FIX IT. SO THEY GOT MY INFORMATION AND SAID THEY WOULD CALL ME WITH AN ETA AND IT HAS BEEN OVER A WEEK NOW WITHOUT ANY CONTACT FROM THEM. WHEN I CALLED TODAY I GAVE THEM MY INFORMATION AGAIN AND THEY TOLD ME ONLY 300 PARTS WERE BEING SHIPPED TO THE WHOLE STATE ON MONDAY AND THAT I MAY OR MAY NOT GET IT DONE EVEN AFTER THAT. TO ME, HAVING HEATED SEATS THAT MAY EXPLODE AND CAUSE FIRES IS A PRETTY BIG SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD NOT TAKE OVER A MONTH (WHEN ALL SAID AND DONE) TO FIX ESPECIALLY LIVING IN A COLD STATE LIKE COLORADO WHERE THESE SEATS ARE NEEDED. BY SCHEDULING AN APPOINTMENT TO FIX IT, THEN NOT HAVING THE PARTS TO DO IT, THEN NEVER CALLING ME BACK TO SET UP A NEW TIME THAT IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE AND WELL OUTSIDE OF A REASONABLE TIME FOR SOMETHING AS SERIOUS AS THIS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAD TO ENTER THE VEHICLE FROM THE REAR IN ORDER TO OPEN THE FRONT DOORS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT INTERMITTENTLY NONE OF THE DOORS WOULD OPEN FROM OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHICH FORCED HER TO ENTER THE VEHICLE FROM THE TRUNK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,936.

2004 JEEP CHEROKEE BLEND DOORS. I HAVE TO USE A TOWEL WHILE DRIVING TO WIPE THE INTERIOR WINDSHIELD SINCE MY DEFROSTER HAS GONE BAD. WHY DOES CHRYSLER NOT COVER THIS AS I CONSIDER THAT TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH 46,636 MILES OUT, NO POWER IN DRIVER DOOR TO THE DOOR LOCKS, EXTRA MIRRORS OR DOME LIGHTS. BROKEN WIRE WAS FOUND IN WIRE BOOT BETWEEN DOOR AND AUTO BODY. WIRE FAILED DUE TO METAL FATIGUE OF FAULTY WIRE THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN USED IN THIS LOCATION. *TR
THERE IS CREAKING FROM THE DASH SECONDS AFTER SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF. COLD AIR BLOWS FROM ONE SIDE OF THE DASH EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE THE HEAT TURNED ON HIGH. DEALER SAYS THIS IS THE BLEND DOOR PROBLEM. I ALREADY HAD THIS UNIT REPLACED AT 70K MILES AND NOW IT IS FAILING AGAIN. DEALER STATES IT IS DUE TO THE DESIGN OF USING PLASTIC PARTS THAT BREAK. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THE COMPANY WHICH MANUFACTURERS THE NECESSARY PARTS WAS OUT OF BUSINESS. HE WAS INFORMED TO CALL THEM BACK AT A LATER DATE. THE CONTACT HAS SINCE CALLED THE AUTHORIZED DEALER BACK 3 TIMES AND HE WAS AGAIN INFORMED TO CALL BACK AT A LATER DATE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT TRACK SUFFERED MATERIAL FATIGUE FRACTURE. SEAT FRAME IS A STAMPED METAL FRAME. THE CRACK HAPPENED ON THE FRONT LEFT LEG THAT ATTACHES THE SEAT TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE SEAT TRACK IS STAMPED BY A CHRYSLER DIRECTED SUPPLIER AND SHIPPED TO JCI FOR ASSEMBLY. SUGGEST CHRYSLER TO INVESTIGATE SEAT MOVEMENT (CAUSING FATIGUE IN THE BEND), MATERIAL THICKNESS AND THE POSSIBILITY OF ADDING A GUSSET (OR BRACE) ACROSS THE BOTTOM OF THIS BEND IN THE TRACK. THIS HAPPENED ON MY PERSONAL VEHICLE. I NOTICED SOME MOVEMENT IN THE SEAT BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS COMING FROM THE RECLINE FUNCTION. I WAS BACKING DOWN A HILL WHEN IT SNAPPED CAUSING ME (THE DRIVER) TO SUDDENLY TILT BACKWARD. I WAS STARTLED AND THE TRUCK BUMPED INTO THE MAILBOX AT THE END OF THE DRIVEWAY CAUSING A DAMAGED BUMPER. *TR
FUEL TANK IS BELOW THE PROTECTION OF THE REAR BUMPER, MADE OF PLASTIC, AND NOT PROTECTED BY ANY MEANS FROM REAR IMPACT FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE. *TR
FIRST STARTED IN NOV 2009 DRIVER SIDE DOOR CONTROLS WON'T WORK, DOME LIGHTS GO ON WITH HEADLIGHTS, REPAIRED BROKEN WIRE. JUNE 2010, DRIVERS DOOR IS INOPERABLE WINDOW STUCK DOWN, CANNOT LOCK DOORS, REPAIRED WIRING HARNESS IN DOOR. DEC. 2011 WINDOWS AND DOOR LOCKS WERE INOPERABLE. - MADE WIRING REPAIR., JAN 2013 DOOR LOCKS AND WINDOWS INOPERABLE, DOME LIGHT STAYS ON WHILE DRIVING OR ELSE YOU LOOSE CONTROL PANEL LIGHTS.-REPAIRED DOOR HARNESS IN RR AND RF DOORS-WAS TOLD THIS IS LAST TIME THEY CAN REPAIR HARNESSES AND NEXT TIME THIS HAPPENS IT WILL COST $2,000 TO REPLACE ALL WIRING. THIS SEEMS RIDICULOUS AND THE DEALERSHIP MENTIONED THEY HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE WITH JEEPS. I DO NOT SEE HOW THIS SHOULD KEEP MALFUNCTIONING IF NO DAMAGE OR ABUSE HAS HAPPENED TO THE VEHICLE. I BELIEVE JEEP SHOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLE AND REPAIR THE WIRING HARNESS AT NO CHARGE UNTIL THEY COME UP WITH A BETTER SYSTEM OF WIRING HARNESSES THROUGH THE DOORS. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND MY DRIVERS SEAT STARTED LEANING ABOUT A YEAR AGO THEN THIS YEAR IS STARTED SQUEAKING WHEN I SAT IN IT, BUT NEVER THOUGHT ANYTHING OF IT SINCE I HAVE 120,000 MILES. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN AS I AM DRIVING AT 65 MPH THE SEAT MAKES A LOUD POP NOISE AND I ALMOST WOUND UP IN THE BACK SEAT. I STOPPED THE CAR AND LOOKED UNDER THE SEAT TO FIND THE FRAME CRACKED. I GOT HOME TOOK THE SEAT APART AND FOUND IT HAD CRACKED ON ALL THE WELD JOINTS AND WHERE THE BOLTS WHERE THAT HELP IT TO THE METAL FRAME. I SEARCHED ONLINE ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND 100'S OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE A TRAGIC ACCIDENT. I HAD THE SEAT WELDED BY A FRIEND SINCE YOU CANNOT BUY THE PARTS TO REPAIR. AFTER 3 WEEKS NOW MY STEEL FRAME ON THE SEAT HAS CRACKED. THESE SEATS ARE DEATH TRAMPS AND CHRYSLER SHOULD HAVE TO FIX THEM. VERY DANGEROUS, DO PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE IN ORDER FOR THIS TO BE RECTIFIED? *TR
CAR KEEPS CUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. HAS DONE IT SEVERAL TIMES ON HIGHWAY, RURAL ROADS AND MAIN ROADS. IT HAS CAUSED ME TO ALMOST HAVE SEVERAL WRECKS. WHEN THE CAR CUTS OFF, I LOSE ALL POWER. I HAVE BEEN STRANDED SEVERAL TIMES WITH MY AUTISTIC SON. I HAVE HAD TO WALK BACK HOME OR GET SOMEONE TO COME GET ME IF IT WAS FURTHER AWAY. I HAVE HAD TO USE SOMEONE CAR BECAUSE I AM AFRAID IT WILL DO IT AND I WILL WRECK. AFTER A WHILE IT WILL START AGAIN, BUT DOES THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN. IT STARTED OFF ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO WHEN I WOULD JUST CRANK THE CAR AND THE FIRST TIME IT WOULD NOT CRANK BUT THE 2ND TIME IT WOULD. IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS I HAVE BEEN STRANDED OR BE DRIVING AND HAVE TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL TO SEE IF IT WILL CRANK. IT DOES AND THEN I PUT IN DRIVE. IT CUTS OFF AGAIN. I HAVE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE AND SOMETIMES IF YOU ARE GOING ON THE HIGHWAY AT THE SPEED AND YOUR CAR CUTS OFF, YOU LOSE POWER AND COULD EASY WRECK. IF I WAS TO PULL OUT AND IT CUT OFF, I COULD BE HIT AND KILLED OR A FAMILY MEMBER IN THE CAR WITH ME. A GENTLEMAN CAME OVER AND BROUGHT SOME EQUIPMENT WHEN I TOLD HIM WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND HE TOLD ME THAT THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR WENT OUT. THERE IS A RECALL ON THAT PART BUT NOT ON MINE. I HAVE TALKED TO THE DAIMLER CHRYSLER ON DECEMBER 29, 2009 AND TOLD THEM OF THE INCIDENT AND WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER AND WAS TOLD SOMEONE WOULD CALL ME BACK. A GENTLEMAN DID CALL BACK AND LEFT ME A MESSAGE THAT THEY HAD MADE A DECISION. I WAS NOT AT THE PHONE AT THE TIME HE LEFT THE MESSAGE. HE LEFT HIS NAME AND NUMBER AND I HAVE CALLED BACK. 2004 JEEP CHEROKEE HAS A PROBLEM WITH CORROSION OF THE RIM. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED ON OCTOBER 11, 2009 WHILE DRIVING, THE LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT FORCING HIM AND HIS WIFE OFF THE HIGHWAY. WHEN THE CONSUMER WENT TO HAVE THE TIRE REPLACED, HE LEARNED THAT THE WHEEL RIM ITSELF WAS CORRODED SO BADLY THAT THE TIRE ESTABLISHMENT REFUSED TO PUT THE RIM BACK ON THE VEHICLE, CITING THE FACT THAT MOUNTING SURFACE AND SPOKES OF THE WHEEL WERE BADLY CORRODED. THE CONSUMER WAS FURTHER INFORMED THAT ALL OF THE RIMS WERE SIMILARLY CORRODED AND WERE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT, AND IF SUCH CONDITION WERE NOT ADDRESSED SOON IT COULD AND ULTIMATELY WOULD LIKELY CAUSE THE LUGS TO SNAP AND THE WHEELS TO FALL OFF. PURCHASED IN 2008 WITH 52,000 MILES ON IT. NOISE EMANATING FROM UNDER DASH, SEEMED LIKE A VACUUM UNIT LOOSING VACUUM AND THEN THE CREAKING OR CLOSING OF A DOOR CONSTANTLY AFTER ENGINE SHUTDOWN. THIS CONTINUED UNTIL IT BEGAN PUTTING HOT AIR OUT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE WITH COLD AIR OUT OF THE DRIVERS SIDE. THEN THE FAN STOPPED WORKING ALTOGETHER. INSPECTED THE WIRING TO THE MOTOR AND FOUND IT TO BE OVERHEATED AND MELTED AT THE PLUG. PURCHASED A WIRING REPAIR KIT FROM CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS A "COMMON PROBLEM" WITH JEEPS! NOW I HAVE NO HEAT WHATSOEVER, BUT THE BLOWER (FAN) DOES WORK. 2004 JEEP GC LIMITED AIR CONDITIONING PROVIDES NO HEAT WITH HEAT SELECTED. THIS PROVIDES NO DEFROSTING FOR WINDSHIELD. THE FAN RELAY PRECIPITATED THIS PROBLEM. FAN RESISTOR WIRING PLUG APPEARED OVERHEATED AND MELTED AND BLEW THE SYSTEM FUSE 40 AMP RATED. THE FAN RESISTOR WAS REPLACED AT $100.00 THROUGH LOCAL PARTS SUPPLIER, CHRYSLER WANTED $300.00 FOR THE SAME PART! THIS PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE SYSTEMIC WITH CHRYSLER JEEP PRODUCTS...AND I BELIEVE THAT THEY KNOW THEY HAVE A PROBLEM, WHY ELSE WOULD THEY OFFER A REPAIR KIT FOR IT THE WIRING AND PLUG)? I HAVE READ OF HUNDREDS OF FOLK'S WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED NO HEAT ISSUES WITH A HEFTY REPAIR PRICE "OFFERED" BY CHRYSLER, WHEN IN FACT THEIR SYSTEM HAS ISSUES THAT THEY KNOW CAUSES FAILURE IN THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM OF THEIR PRODUCTS AND HAVE NOT OFFERED A FIX FOR IT OTHER THAN OFFERING TO FIX IT FOR AN EXCESS OF $1000 PER VEHICLE. THEY SHOULD BE FORCED TO MAKE CORRECTION OF A FAULTY SYSTEM AT THE LEAST, AND NOT FORCE CUSTOMERS TO FOOT THE BILL FOR THEIR FAULTY SYSTEM. THE POWER WINDOWS AND POWER DOOR LOCKS FAILURES HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000.

PRIOR TO THIS, NON-DEALER SHOP REPLACED FUEL FILTER AND PUMP, DUE TO READINGS. CAR HAS RUN FINE SINCE, BUT PROBLEM HAS RE-APPEARED. DUE TO DEALER CLOSURES, WE HAD TO GO TO A NEW DEALER SVC. BEFORE CAR STARTS AGAIN. FIRST INTERMITTENT, NOW ALMOST EVERY TIME. THE CONSEQUENCE IS THAT WE BLOCKED RAILWAY CROSSINGS, DRIVEWAYS, INTERSECTIONS AND SO ON. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN ! 3) - ON 8/14/09, THE BATTERY WAS DIAGNOSED TO BE BAD. REPLACED, DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. ($200) - ON 8/18/09, THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP AGAIN, BUT MAINTENANCE GUY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING SINCE IT WAS INTERMITTENT. ($0) - ON 9/1/09, THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP AGAIN. THIS TIME SOME WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. (TRANS TEMP, CHECK GAUGES) THIS TIME THEY FOUND THAT (POSSIBLE) TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE RANGE SENSOR WOULD NOT ALLOW STARTUP. TRANSMISSION SERVICE WAS RECOMMENDED AND PERFORMED BUT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. ($385) - LATER IN OCTOBER, THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP AGAIN. FOR 2 WEEKS WITHOUT SUCCESS. DEALER MENTIONED THAT HE WAS ONLY ABLE TO RECONSTRUCT THE FAILURE ONCE. DAILY TESTING DIDN'T SHOW THE PROBLEM ANY MORE. CAR WAS PICKED UP ON 10/26/09. SINCE THAT TIME, THE CAR IS HAVING THE PROBLEM MORE THAN 50% OF THE TIME. SEEMS THAT THE CAR NEED TO BE DRIVEN AT LEAST SEVERAL MILES UNTIL THE PROBLEM SHOWS UP. - ON 10/31/09, CAR WILL GO TO SHOP AGAIN. *TR
I FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM NINE MONTHS AGO DURING A LONG DRIVE WITH THE A/C RUNNING, THAT THE CONDENSATION UNDER THE FRONT PASSENGER AREA WAS ENOUGH TO CAUSE A VERY SMALL AND SLOW DRIP OF WATER. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO A COUPLE AUTO SHOPS AND BOTH MECHANICS SUSPECTED THAT THE DRAIN PLUG WAS DEFECTIVE, YET THE CONDENSATION DID DRAIN TOWARDS THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR AND THEY COULD NOT FIND THE SOURCE OF THE WATER LEAK. THE CARPET WOULD BECOME SOAKED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER AREA AFTER LONG DRIVES WITH THE A/C RUNNING. THE DEALER HAS TOLD ME IT WILL COST ROUGHLY $1700 TO GET THIS REPAIRED AND THIS IS TOO COSTLY FOR ME. A MECHANIC FRIEND HAS ADVISED THAT THIS SOUNDS LIKE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AS THE CAR ONLY HAS 54,000 MILES AND I'VE NEVER HAD ANY OTHER ISSUES. THIS OCCASIONAL DRIP HAS GROWN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND LAST WEEK, DURING A 3 HOUR ROAD TRIP, I ENDED UP WITH A POOL OF WATER IN THE FRONT PASSENGER AREA - ENOUGH WATER TO HAVE TO SCOOP IT OUT SEVERAL CUPS OF WATER! THAT IS RIDICULOUS. I STOPPED AT YET ANOTHER AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND WAS AGAIN ADVISED THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. *TR

LATER AFTER READING THE HAYNES MANUAL I DID A DIAGNOSTIC ON THE HEATER SYSTEM & GOT A CODE 54 SHOWING A BLEND DOOR PROBLEM. RESEARCHING THIS ON THE INTERNET JEEP FORUMS DISCOVERED THAT MANY GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED HAVE A BLEND DOOR FAILURES DUE TO THE DESIGN (PLASTIC PINS ETC) ON THE TEMP DOORS IN THE SYSTEM. MY PROBLEM W/ THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THIS FAILS IN THE WINTER & YOUR DEFROSTER WON'T BLOW HOT AIR ONLY COLD. SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY RELATED PROBLEM TO ME. WIRING HARNESS LOCATED BETWEEN FRONT DOOR AND FRAME INSIDE RUBBER TUBING IS MADE OF INFERIOR MATERIALS AND CRACKS WITH TIME EXPOSING WIRING CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE. SPECIFICALLY, THE BLACK NEUTRAL WIRE AND ORANGE WIRES HAVE BEEN CRACKING ON DOZENS, IF NOT THOUSANDS, OF JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES (AS SEEN HERE: HTTP://AUTOFORUM.CLASSIFIEDS1000.COM/JEEP-GRAND_CHEROKEE/04_JEEP_GRAND_CHEROKEE_ELECTRICAL_PROBLEM). WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE WIRING BECOMES EXPOSED AND/OR BREAKS. IN MY CASE WHEN THIS OCCURRED, THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR CONTROLS CEASED TO OPERATE CAUSING THE WINDOWS AND DOOR LOCKS TO BE UNRESPONSIVE. IN ADDITION THIS CAUSES THE INTERIOR LIGHTS TO TURN ON WHEN THE HEADLAMPS ARE ON CAUSING DIFFICULTY DRIVING IN NIGHT TIME CONDITIONS. FINALLY, THIS FAULT MAY BE THE CAUSE OF THE DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE LIGHT TO FAIL WHEN HEADLAMPS ARE ON. THIS ISSUE CAN BE TEMPORARILY CORRECTED BY SPLICING THE EXISTING WIRING HARNESS. HOWEVER, A MORE PERMANENT SOLUTION WOULD BE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS AS OTHER WIRES COULD DETERIORATE. *TR
