ON SEPT 4TH 2020 I STOPPED TO PUT AIR IN A TIRE. I NOTICED THE SIDE WALL APPEARED TO BE SPLITTING. I CHECKED THE OTHER TIRES AND THEY WERE SPLITTING AS WELL. ALL FOR TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED. I STILL HAVE THE TIRES THAT WERE SPLITTING.O ALSO HAVE PICTURES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT COMPLETELY FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ROLLED TO A STOP AND NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 107,800.
I PURCHASED AT FROM MICHIGAN AUTO WHEEL & TIRES (MAWT) AT 38190 VAN DYKE AVE, STERLING HEIGHTS, MI 48310 AND HAD THEM MOUNTED, BALANCED, AND INSTALLED ON MY VEHICLE IN PREPARATION FOR MY VACATION TRIP. WHILE ON MY TRIP ONE OF THE TIRES WENT FLAT. WHEN I HAD THE TIRE REPLACED, I LEARNED THAT THE 4 TIRES WERE NOT NEW, BUT WERE ALL ABOUT 5 YEAR OLD AND EACH HAD A PATCHES ON THE SIDEWALL. WHEN REPUTABLE DEALERS HAVE A TIRE THAT AGES OUT OF THEIR INVENTORY AT APPROXIMATELY 5 YEARS, THEY DESTROY THE TIRE BY DRILLING THE SIDEWALL. THEY PAY A RECYCLER TO DISPOSE OF THE TIRE. IN MY CASE, THE TIRES HAD NO SIGN OF WEAR AND APPEARED NEW. IT APPEARS THAT MAWT IS INVOLVED IN PURCHASING SCRAP TIRES AND REPAIRING THEM, OR PURCHASING REPAIRED SCRAP TIRES, AND SELLING THEM AS NEW. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PRACTICE. I HAVE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTATION.
RIDING ON HIGHWAY PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WHEEL CAME OFF THREE BROKEN STRUTS AND NUTS CAME OFF,TIRE WENT OVER GUARD RAIL INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC,TIRE IS MISSING,NO ONE HURT?
VALVE STEM BROKE WHILE SERVICING A CUSTOMER'S VEHICLE. THE TIRE LOST ALL AIR PRESSURE AND A NEW TPMS SENSOR NEEDED TO BE PURCHASED. ALL FROM CHECKING THE TIRE PRESSURE AS A COURTESY TO OUR CUSTOMERS. THIS CLAIM IS BEING FILED ON BEHALF OF THE CUSTOMER. *JS
2004 JEEP CHEROKEE HAS A PROBLEM WITH CORROSION OF THE RIM. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED ON OCTOBER 11, 2009 WHILE DRIVING, THE LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT FORCING HIM AND HIS WIFE OFF THE HIGHWAY. WHEN THE CONSUMER WENT TO HAVE THE TIRE REPLACED, HE LEARNED THAT THE WHEEL RIM ITSELF WAS CORRODED SO BADLY THAT THE TIRE ESTABLISHMENT REFUSED TO PUT THE RIM BACK ON THE VEHICLE, CITING THE FACT THAT MOUNTING SURFACE AND SPOKES OF THE WHEEL WERE BADLY CORRODED. THE CONSUMER WAS FURTHER INFORMED THAT ALL OF THE RIMS WERE SIMILARLY CORRODED AND WERE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT, AND IF SUCH CONDITION WERE NOT ADDRESSED SOON IT COULD AND ULTIMATELY WOULD LIKELY CAUSE THE LUGS TO SNAP AND THE WHEELS TO FALL OFF. THE CONSUMER ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES WHICH ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS CAUSED BY A PIECE OF THE WHEEL CHROME COVER WHICH HAD BECOME DELAMINATED FROM THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL AND WAS RUBBING ON TIE ROD WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKES TO MALFUNCTION. *JB UPDATED 03/04/10.*JB

CONTACTED JEEP TO TELL THEM OF OUR RIMS THAT ARE FAILING,DUE TO PRODUCT DETERIORATION AND THEY DECIDED TO SETTLE FOR HALF OF THE COST AT THE FIRST CALL. THESE RIMS ARE EXPANDING AT THE MAG PART OF THE WHEEL & SEPARATING FROM THE RIM. THIS IS MY WIFE'S CAR AND I MIGHT NOT BE AROUND IF THEY FAIL & CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CRACKS ARE NORMAL. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT DRIVE DIFFERENTLY. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 21,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,000.

THE WHEELS ARE ALUMINUM AND THAT IS WHY HE FEELS THAT THE TIRES WERE ALWAYS UNDERDEFLATED. THE DEALER FOUND NO TIRE FAILURE. THE DOT NUMBER AND TIRE SIZE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
THE SIDE WALLS ON ALL THE GOODYEAR WRANGLER ST TIRES ON MY JEEP HAVE DRY ROT. WHILE DRIVING ON A INTERSTATE, LATE AT NIGHT, ONE OF THE TIRES BLOW THROUGH THE SIDE WALL. DUE TO A SLOW LEAK IN ONE OF THE OTHER TIRES IN THE AREA OF THE SIDE WALL, SULLIVAN TIRE, A LOCAL GOODYEAR TIRE DEALER, INSPECTED THE TIRES AND ADVISED ME THAT ALL THE TIRES HAD SOME DEGREE OF DRY ROT IN THE VICINITY OF THE SIDE WALL (A POSSIBLE QUALITY CONTROL PROBLEM) AND THEY SHOULD BE REPLACED. SULLIVAN TIRE IS CONTACTING GOODYEAR FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON THE REPLACEMENTS. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE TIRE TREAD WAS WORN TO 3/64 ON ALL FOUR TIRES AFTER ONLY 10,000 OF USE. THE TIRES HAD BEEN ROTATED BY THE SERVICE DEALER AND PROPER PRESSURE HAD BEEN MAINTAINED. THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST NOTICED BY THE CONTACT WHO TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE SERVICE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE SERVICE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE WEAR AND RECOMMEND TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE TIRE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE TIRE DEALER WHO WAS ALSO UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE WEAR, BUT RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE TIRES. UPDATED 7/5/2006 - *NM
