VEHICLE TRANSMISSION HAS ALWAYS MADE STRANGE CLUNKING NOISES. VEHICLE BEGAN TO DROP OUT OF GEAR WHILE DRIVING AND THEN FINALLY (AND CURRENTLY) WILL COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. A CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER DID TELL ME THAT JEEP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AMONG V8 MODELS SUCH AS MINE BUT THAT THEY JUST DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT SO THEY HAVE NOT YET ISSUED A RECALL. HOWEVER, JEEP IS PUTTING SO MANY PEOPLE AT RISK OF AN ACCIDENT. NOT ONLY THE VEHICLE DRIVE BUT EVERYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD AROUND THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE NOW SHUTS OFF WHILE IN MOTION DRIVING ON A FAIRLY REGULAR BASIS BUT WITH NO CONSISTENT PATTERN. $34,000 DOLLARS WORTH OF WORRY. *JB
EXPERIENCED LOW BRAKE FLUID WARNING IN 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WITH 2,400 MILES. BRAKE FLUID WAS WAS TOPPED OFF WHEN TYHE WARNING INDICATOR WENT OFF. TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE OCCURRED THE NEXT DAY WHILE DRIVING.
TRANSMISSION TORQURE CONVERTER FAILED CAUSING ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO TRANSMISSION
THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE BREAKING OFF AS A RESULT OF WEAK MATERIAL, THIS PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD FOR JEEP OWNERS THROUGHOUT THE US, AND ABROAD, THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN FOR POTENTIAL VICTIMS OF A CRASH, OR EVEN WORSE A FIRE OR A WATER EVACUATION AS IT IS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE TO SAFELY EXIT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF AN OPERATIONAL DOOR HANDLE.. THERE IS MOST CERTAINLY OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE, THE EDMUNDS FORUM HAS AN EXTENSIVE COMPLAINT LIST FOR THIS ISSUE, AND IT'S NOT JUST THE 05 MODELS.. THE DEALERSHIPS ARE OFFERING A FIX FOR $700 PER DOOR, PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED AS A RESULT IF NO HAS DIED ALREADY. THIS IS IN REGARDS TO 05-08 MODELS OF THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES. *TT
THIS VEHICLE HAS AN ISSUE WITH "INTENDED ACCELERATION". TWICE THE ENGINE HAS GONE TO WIDE OPEN THROTTLE AT VERY SLOW SPEEDS. FIRST TIME I HAD TIME TO PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL. SECOND TIME I WENT FOR A VERY SURPRISING RIDE OVER A FOUR FOOT RETAINING WALL . IT LANDED ON THE GRASS WITHOUT TIPPING OVER. I HAVE PARKED THIS CAR AND HAVEN'T RUN IT UNTIL I KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT COULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME AND ANYWHERE.
UPHOLSTERY FABRIC IS HIGHLY SUSCEPTIBLE TO STAINING!!! IT DOES NOT CLEAN WHEN SHAMPOOED. EVEN RAIN DROPS STAIN THE FABRIC. I HAVE SHAMPOOED AND EVEN HAD THE FABRIC SCOTCH-GUARDED ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, YET IT STILL STAINS, EVEN BY RAIN DROPS. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT BUT TO NO AVAIL. I WON'T PURCHASE ANOTHER JEEP DUE TO THIS FRUSTRATION. I TAKE PRIDE IN KEEPING MY VEHICLE CLEAN AND LIKE NEW. I AM VERY EMBARRASSED TO HAVE PASSENGERS RIDE IN MY JEEP. IT GIVES THEM A BAD IMPRESSION OF ME AS WELL AS CHRYSLER! I REALLY REGRET PURCHASING THIS JEEP. *TR
I AM A PARAPLEGIC AND WAS A PASSENGER IN A 2005 GRAND CHEROKEE WITH HEATED SEATS. IT WAS A COOL DAY AND I TURNED ON THE SEATS. THE HEATED SEATS BURNED BOTH CHEEKS OF MY BUTT. I AM CONFINED TO A BED UNTIL THE BURNS HEAL.
WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY STREETWITH MY 2 CHILDREN IN THE CAR, I HAD TO STOP @ A RED LIGHT AND WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PROCEEDED TO GO BUT COULDN'T AND REALIZED THAT THE CAR HAD SHUT OFF. I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR IN A HURRY DUE TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC BUT WAS UNABLE TO. FINALLY I FIND THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND PUT THEM ON TO LET PEOPLE KNOW THAT MY VEHICLE WAS STALLED. I HAD TO TAKE THE KEY COMPLETELEY OUT AND PUT IT BACK IN TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. I COULD'VE HAD AN ACCIDENT. TOOK THE CAR IN AND LEFT IT THERE FOR 3 DAYS AND THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR AND TO TAKE IT HOME. SO I DID. I WENT OUT OF TOWN THAT WEEKEND AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE VEHICLE WAS ACTUALLY IN MOTION WHEN IT SHUT OFF FOR THE SECOND TIME ON A ANOTHER BUSY STREET. I QUICKLY TURNED ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND ONCE AGAIN HAD TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. AS I WAS MAKING MY WAY BACK INTO TO TOWN, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ANOTHER 3 DAYS ALL FOR THEM TO SAY THAT THEY REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE COMPUTERS AND THAT SHOULD RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. BUT IT DIDN'T... IT SHUT OFF AGAIN ABOUT A WEEK LATER RIGHT AFTER I DROPPED MY KIDS OFF AT SCHOOL. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I TOOK IT BACK AGAIN, KEEP IN MIND THIS IS THE THIRD TIME...THIS TIME THEY CHANGED OUT THE IGNITION CYLINDER AFTER 4 DAYS. I HAVE ONLY HAD IT BACK NOW FOR 4 DAYS AND ONCE AGAIN THE CAR SHUT OFF AT A LIGHT ON A BUSY STREET. SO THE PEOPLE AT THE DEALERSHIP WILL BE SEEING ME AGAIN!!! THIS IS DANGEROUS AND VERY INCONVIENENT FOR ME AND MY FAMILY.
WHILE DRIVING ON I-95 AT ABOUT 0630 HOURS EAST BOUND TOWARDS EXIT 53 IN BRANFORD, CT WHEN AND WITHOUT ANY NOISE OR WARNING IT BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER THE 2005, JEEP GRAND, CHEROKEE. THIS VEHICLE HAD AT THE TIME OF THE CATASTROPHIC LOSS OF STEERING FLUID, 520 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. DEALER, BRANHAVEN MOTORS , BRANFORD, CT HAS INDICATED THAT THE BELT, HOSE TO THE POWER STEERING UNIT,AND HOOD INSULATION MAT WILL BE REPLACED. POWER STEERING FLUID WAS SPRAYED OVER THE ENTIRE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. NO FIRE ONLY AN ACRID ODOR. QUESTION? WHAT ABOUT THE POWER STEERING UNIT. WAS THE UNIT DAMAGED BY THIS SUDDEN AND COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING FLUID? WILL THE REPAIR MAKE THE VEHICLE WHOLE OR WILL THIS OCCUR AGAIN?THE OLD PARTS HAVE NOT BEEN REQUESTED SINCE THE WORK WILL NOT BE COMPLETED UNTIL APRIL 22, 2005.*AK
I WAS PERFORMING AN OIL CHANGE ON THE VEHICLE. AS SOON AS I CRAWLED UNDER IT TO START, I NOTICED THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL WHERE THE AXLE TUBE MATES, WAS COVERED IN DIFF OIL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS "NORMAL SEEPAGE". I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE A GASKET CAN ONLY HOLD FLUID FOR LESS THAN 6000 MILES BEFORE LEAKING. DEALER REFUSED TO CORRECT IT.
JUST PURCHASED A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. I NOTICED WHEN I TEST DROVE SEVERAL AND ENDED UP ORDERING FROM THE FACTORY THAT THE FRONT SEAT BELTS ARE TOO SHORT. WHILE I CAN GET THE BELT TO BUCKLE, I AM UNABLE TO HAVE MUCH FORWARD MOTION SUCH AS IF I'M REACHING FOR SOMETHING. I AM NOT THAT BIG SO SEAT BELT EXTENDERS SHOULD NOT BE WARRANTED. NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM IN ANY OTHER VEHICLE, INCLIUDING 2001 GRAND CHEROKEE I TRADED. IF I AM CARRYING A PASSENGER THAT IS LARGER THAN ME, THERE IS BO WAY THAT THEY WILL BE ABLE TO FASTEN THE BELT. OBVIOUSLY, THIS COULD END UP BEING A SAFETY ISSUE.*AK
I READ IN THE NEWS TODAY THAT THE NHTSA IS INVESTIGATING THE BRAKES ON A NUMBER OF GM PRODUCTS. I WISH THAT YOU HAD INCLUDED JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BRAKES FOR 1999 THROUGH 2004 MODELS. THE DESIGN IS SUCH THAT PULSATION, SOMETIMES SEVERE, OCCURS AFTER 10K TO 15K MILES DUE TO THE ROTORS WARPING. MY DEALER EITHER RESURFACES THE EXISTING ROTORS OR REPLACES THEM AT NO CHARGE. IN 1999 THE DEALER BLAMED THE PROBLEM ON A NEW DESIGN AND SUPPLIER PROBLEMS. MY 2004 MODEL HAD TO BE TAKEN IN FOR PULSATING FRONT BRAKES AT 18,500 MILES, AND I WAS TOLD THAT CHRYSLER WAS LOCKED INTO A CONTRACT WITH THEIR SUPPLIER THAT THEY COULD NOT BREAK, WHICH IS WHY SUBSTANDARD PARTS CONTINUE TO BE SUPPLIED BUT REPLACED AT NO CHARGE. FOR CHRYSLER TO GO THROUGH 5 MODEL YEARS KNOWING THEY WERE SUPPLYING SUBSTANDARD BRAKE COMPONENTS IS INEXCUSABLE! THE BRAKE PROBLEM WITH THEIR 1999 MODEL WAS AN ENGINEERING AND/OR SUPPLIER PROBLEM. THE BRAKE PROBLEM WITH THE 2004 MODEL IS A SENIOR MANAGEMENT PROBLEM. BRAKE WORK DONE ON MY 1999 MODEL AND 2004 MODEL WAS DONE EXCLUSIVELY BY THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER, AND THOSE RECORDS ARE IN THEIR SYSTEM SHOULD YOU WISH TO PURSUE THIS. COMPLAINT REGARDING THE POSITION OF THE IGNITION SYSTEM ON THE 2005 JEEP LAREDO.*MR THE CONSUMER STATED HE INADVERTENTLY TURNED THE IGNITION OFF WITH HIS KNEE. *JB *NM
2005 JEEP LAREDO EXHIBITS APPARENT ENGINE SKIPPING, THRASHING, ETC WHEN TRAVELING AT APPROX 1200-1500 RPM UP A GRADE (ENGINE UNDER LIGHT LOAD). DEALER AND MANUFACTURER SAY THAT THIS IS A PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE. SERVICE MANAGER OF MCKINNEY DODGE IN EASLEY SC (TONY) SAYS THAT "EVERY ONE OF THEM DO THIS, NEW OR WITH A FEW MILES - WORSE AFTER A FEW MILES". SERVICE MANAGER INDICATES THAT HE HAS NO CLUE HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM, ASKED ME TO CALL NATIONAL NUMBER (PROBABLY TRYING TO GET ME OFF THE LOT). CALLED NATIONAL NUMBER, THEY CALLED LOCAL DEALER (TONY) AND WERE TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE FIXED, THEREFORE DENYING THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM AT ALL. NATIONAL CHRYSLER FOLKS SAID IT WAS AN OPERATING CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE AND THAT NOTHING COULD/WOULD BE DONE "AT THIS TIME". I PUT "500" UNDER "NUMBER OF FAILURES" IN THE FORM BELOW JUST BECAUSE I HAD TO PUT SOME NUMBER. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE CAR IS DRIVEN. *JB
I HAVE A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH CLOTH SEATS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE MATERIAL IS MADE OF, AND REALLY DON'T CARE. WATER WILL STAIN THE CLOTH IMMEDIATELY AND IS UNABLE TO BE CLEANED. I PURCHASED A 2004 SPECIAL EDITION JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IN FEB 2003. THIS VEHICLE IS STRICTLY USED FOR PLEASURE AND CURRENTLY HAS LESS THEN 18,000 MILES. I DO NOT LIVE IN THE MOUNTAINS WHERE BRAKES ARE USED EXCESSIVELY. THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE WARPED AT 12,100 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO WARRANTY AND SAID THERE WAS NOT ISSUE WITH THE BRAKING SYTEM. THEY ARE ONCE AGAIN WARPED WITH NOW LESS THEN 18,000 MILES. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHO BLEW ME OFF AND PLACED A COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER WHO IS YET TO RESPOND, HOWEVER I WAS GIVEN A REFERENCE NUMBER, REFERENCE NUMBER: 13282345 I HAD THE ROTORS CUT THE FIRST TIME AND REPLACED WITH A GM PRODUCT THE SECOND TIME. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND KNOW I AM NOT ALONE IN THIS AND ALSO NOTED THAT THE COMPANY ISSUED A NOTICE TO THE DEALERSHIPS IN JUNE OF 04, YET THEY CONTINUE TO DENY ANY PROBLEM.*AK
CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS SITTING AT A INTERSECTION AND WAS REAR ENDED, FORCING IT TO REAR END THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. UPON IMPACT, NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. *AK
THE ENGINE WOULD COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING. THE HEADLIGHTS, POWER WINDOWS, AND THE POWER LOCKS CONTINUED TO WORK. THE STEERING LOCKED. *AK *SC *JB
I HAVE NOT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROLEE HAS SIGNIFICANTLY SHORTENED THE FRONT SEAT BELTS, TO THE POINT WHERE A LARGER INDIVIDUAL WOULD BE TOTALLY UNABLE TO BUCKLE THE BELT, EVEN WITH THE SEAT ALL THE WAY BACK. I DO NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH MY 1999 GRAND CHEROKEE, OR ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED OR RENTED. THE SIGNIFICANTLY SHORTER SEAT BELT WILL CAUSE PEOPLE NOT TO BUCKLE UP, AND IS A SAFETY HAZARD FOR ANY DRIVER.*AK
VEHICLE HAS TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND BEGAN AT 641 MILES AFTER PURCHASING BRAND NEW. TRANSMISSION HESITATION, VEHICLE DOES NOT SEEM TO KNOW HOW TO SHIFT PROPERLY AND HESITATED WHEN ACCELERATING OR PULLING IN TO TRAFFIC. HAS CAUSED SEVERAL NEAR MISSES WHEN TRYING TO PULL IN TO TRAFFIC, PASS ON THE INTERSTATE OR SAFELY GET OUT OF SOMEONE'S WAY. VEHICLE HAS HAD NUMEROUS PARTS REPLACED NOT RELATION DIRECTLY TO THIS ISSUE. VEHICLE HAS ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN WHEN APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT AND HAS TRIED TO LURCH FORWARD WITHOUT MY FOOT ON FROM THE ACCELERATOR AND FIRMLY APPLIED TO THE BRAKE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR THIS ISSUE ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND MANUFACTURER CANNOT LOCATE ISSUE. AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT IS SUPPOSED TO COME ON TO INDICATE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS DISABLED WHEN THERE IS NOT ENOUGH WEIGHT IN THE PASSENGER CHAIR. IT NOT ONLY DOES THIS, IT COMES ON AND STAYS ON WITH OR WITHOUT PASSENGERS IN THE CHAIR. IT TRIGGERS THE DRIVERS INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHT TO COME AND CHIME REPEATEDLY. THIS HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIR 4 TIMES NOW AND CANNOT SEEM TO BE RECTIFIED. I EXPECT MORE THAN THIS FROM A BRAND NEW VEHICLE AND FEEL I HAVE NOT BEEN TREATED FAIRLY BY CHRYSLER WHEN TRYING TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. *JB
I HAVE A 2005 GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO UNDER 3000 MILES. MY ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON LESS THAN 10 TIMES ,AND MY CAR HAS STALLED WHEN COME TO STOP LIGHT OR COMPLETE STOP ABOUT 5 TIMES. I HAVE MADE 5 TRIPS TO THE DEALER AND THE FIRST FEW TIMES THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THEN THEY DETERMINED IT WAS RELATED TO THE REMOTE START WHICH THEY HAD INSTALLED. I GOT IT BACK AND THEY SAID IT WAS FIXED AND IT STALLED OUT WHEN I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY THAT VERY DAY. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN EXACTLY 1 WEEK LATER. ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON NOW. THIS WILL BE MY 7TH TRIP TO THE DEALER FOR THIS PROBLEM. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SAY THAT I HAVE ALSO HIT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION TWICE WHICH MADE THE CAR SHUT OFF AND MY CAR HAS ALSO REVVED UP WITH THE BRAKE ON JUST AS THE OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE. I AM ALSO ONLY GETTING 12 MILES PER GALLON!*AK
IN REFERENCE TO 05V396000: EVERYTHING STATED IN THE RECALL APPLIES TO MY VEHICLE ALSO EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A HEMI AND ITS ASSOCIATED TRANSMISSION. CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS NEGLECTED TO ASSIST ME IN ASSESSING THE IMPLICATIONS OF FOUR MONTHS OF SHUDDER EFFECT ON THE TRANSMISSION, ENGINE AND FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. CUSTOMER SERVICE CONTINUALLY HANGS UP ON ME WHILE I AM EXPLAINING THE SITUATION. AFTER FOUR MONTHS OF DEALING WITH THE SHUDDER I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO CONVINCE THE DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT I HAD A SERIOUS PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING. THEY REPLACED THE TORQUE CONVERTER. I HAVE A FULLY LOADED 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. *JB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH OR GREATER, THE VEHICLE HESITATED WHEN SHIFTED INTO GEAR. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. NHTSA RECALL # 05V396000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) WAS FOUND. THE RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 30,547 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 500.
SAME AS 101001116 AND 10106060. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING ON RTE. 75 AT APROXIMATELY 75 MPH WHEN HIS KNEE BUMPED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AND CAR TURNED OFF. VERY SCARY, FORTUNATELY AROUND 8PM AND NOT AS MUCH TRAFFIC AS USUAL. COULD HAVE BEEN VERY BAD IF TRAFFIC HAD BEEN A BIT DIFFERENT.*AK
PROBLEM********WIFE AND MYSELF WERE UNAWARE WE WERE STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS AT THE SAME TIME.********** I FIGURED IT OUT TWICE IN TIME TO AVOID WRECK BY STANDING ON BRAKE WITH LEFT FOOT. MY 7 MONTH PREGNANT WIFE WHILE STANDING ON BRAKE WITH AMPLE STOPPING DISTANCE REAR-ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THERE ARE TWO CONTRIBUTING FACTORS TO DESIGN FLAW IN THIS '05 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. OUR 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 5.7L LIMITED HAS NOW ON TWO OCCASIONS WHEN STOPPED AND IN GEAR WITH BRAKE ON , RAPIDLY ACCELERATED. ONCE IN REVERSE, AND ONCE IN FORWARD. THE FIRST TIME WAS ON JAN 14TH WHEN I WAS BEHIND THE WHEEL WAITING FOR MY WIFE TO GET IN AFTER JUST BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE AND RESTING MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. FORTUNATELY, JUST BEFORE SHE STEPPED INTO THE OPEN DOOR THE CAR ACCELERATED RAPIDLY BACKWARD AT FULL THROTTLE UNTIL I COULD HIT THE BREAKS HARD. THE CAR WENT APPROXIMATELY 40 FEET. AGAIN YESTERDAY AS MY WIFE STOPPED AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO GET OUR MAIL, SHE REALIZED SHE NEEDED TO BACKUP AND GET CLOSER TO THE MAIL BOX. AS SHE PULLED FORWARD-A DISTANCE OF 10 FEED, SHE CAME TO A GRADUAL STOP JUST BEFORE THE MAIL BOX. THE CAR THEN LEAPED FORWARD AT HIGH ACCELERATION SMASHING OFF TWO MAILBOXES MOUNDED ON A 4*4 POST SPLITTING IT IN HALF, THEN WENT APPROXIMATELY 15 FEET BEFORE CRASHING THROUGH A SNOW BANK AND HITTING A LARGE WOODED HEDGE. DAMAGE WAS LIMITED TO LARGE SCRATCH IN THE HOOD, SMALL DENTS ABOVE HEAD LIGHT, DENT ON FRONT QUARTER PANEL , AND SMALL DENT ON RIGHT DOOR. WE HAVE FILED A POLICE REPORT, CONTACTED OUR INSURANCE AGENT, AND CONTACTED CHRYSLER WHO PROMISED TO DO AN INVESTIGATION NEXT WEEK. MY ASSESSMENT IS THE BREAK PEDAL, AND THE GAS PEDAL IS 2.5 INCHES APART, AND WHEN YOU SLOWLY APPLY THE BREAK IT WILL SQUASH TO THE POINT THAT IT IS AT OR BELOW THE GAS PEDAL LEVEL. IF WEARING HEAVY SHOES OR BOOTS THIS CAUSES THE SIDE OF THE SHOE TO HIT THE GAS PEDAL THEREFORE THE RAPID ACCELERATION OF THE VERY RESPONSIVE 5.7 HEMI ENGINE. THERE WAS A CHIME, A RED LIGHT IN UPPER RIGHT OF DASH STARTED TO BLINK, AND THE MESSAGE CENTER STATED PROGRAMMING ACTIVE. AFTER ABOUT 30 SECONDS, THERE WAS ANOTHER CHIME, THE MESSAGE WENT OUT, AND I COULD RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THEN, ALL WHILE BRAKING. *NM

THE DEALERSHIP ORDERED FOUR INCH EXTENDER. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY 70 MPH AND WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO TAKE AN EXIT THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN, THERE WAS NO POWER AT ALL. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER DROVE THE NEXT DAY TO THE DEALERSHIP AND LEFT THE VEHICLE. DEALER COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG AFTER THREE DAYS. AFTER PICKING THE VEHICLE UP FROM THE DEALER IT SHUT DOWN WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT. A NEW (04 / 05) JEEP CHEROKEE STYLE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED MAKING A LEFT TURN ACROSS TRAFFIC. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE PLAINLY VISABLE BUT I COMMENTED TO MYSELF THAT THE DRIVER SHOULD USE TURN SIGNALS WHEN MAKING THIS MANUVER, ESPECIALLY ON THE WELL TRAVELED ROAD. APPARENT HIGH FREQUENCY VIBARTION, ESPECIALLY IN LOW CRUISING SPPEDS ON PERFECTLY FLAT PAVEMENT. VIBRATION STRENGTH INCREASING IN HIGHER RPM. HESITANT ENGINE IN LOW RPM AND WHILE ACCELERATING. APPARENT UNDERPOWERED OPERATION, COMPARED TO TEST-DRIVEN VEHICLE. TWO JEEP DEALER SERVICE TECHNICIANS TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR 50 MILES. PROBLEM CONFIRMED BY SERVICE. FIRST ATTEMPT, FAILED TO FIX MALFUNCTION. ADIVSED TO BRING BACK FOR A LONGER STAY. SECOND ATTEMPT - AFTER 50 MILES OF OPERATION - (VEHICLE STAYED IN DEALERHIP SERVICE FOR 4 BUSINESS DAYS) UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT TO FIX AQAIN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO. WHILE DRIVING OVER 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND DROPPED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DEDUCTIBLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID CAUSED BY A SEAL FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THIS WAS COMMON FOR THE SEALANT TO FAIL AND CAUSE THE LEAK. THE CONTACT INQUIRED ABOUT A TSB AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO SERVICE BULLETINS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS LESS THAN 1,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
BOUGHT A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IN LATE OCTOBER. HAVE HAD NUMEROUS INSTANCES ON ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN WHILE DRIVING, INCLUDING ON A BUSY EXPRESSWAY. NEITHER CHRYSLER NOR THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM (THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS IN CONTACT WITH CHRYSLER TECHICAL SUPPORT WHEN TRYING TO REPAIR). THEY TRIED A COUPLE OF REPAIRS SUGGESTED BY CHRYSLER THAT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. FINALLY REALIZED I WAS GENTLY BUMPING THE IGNITIION KEY OR ATTACHED KEYS WHEN GOING FROM THE ACCELERATOR TO THE BRAKE AND THE SWITCH WAS MOVING TO "ACCESSORY" FROM "ON" AND KILLING THE ENGINE. THE TWO POSITIONS ARE VERY CLOSE TOGETHER. HAVE TALKED TO TWO PEOPLE AT THE DEALERSHIP WHO HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN WITH EITHER A JEEP OR PACIFICA. TO ME THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN THAT COULD GET SOMEONE INJURED OR KILLED IF IN TRAFFIC. I REMOVED ALL OTHER KEYS AND EVEN THE RING FROM THE IGNITION KEY TO TRY TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. WITH THIS INFORMATION, THE DEALER HAS AGREED TO REPLACE THE IGNITIION CYLINDER; I ASKED THAT THEY CHECK THE OTHER GRAND CHEROKEES TO SEE IF IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM SEVERAL DAYS AGO, BUT THEY HAVE NOT YET RESPONDED. TO ME AS AN ENGINEER, THERE ARE TWO PROBLEMS: THE IGNITION SWITCH IS VERY LOW ON THE DASHBOARD WHERE THE KEY CAN EASILY BE HIT, AND THE TWO POSITIONS ON THE SWITCH ARE VERY CLOSE TOGETHER, MAKING THIS PROBLEM EASY TO OCCUR. IF THERE IS THE SLIGHTEST WEAKNESS IN THE SPRING IN THE IGNITION, THIS IS EVEN MORE LIKELY.*AK

THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED IT WAS APPARENT THE MATERIALS USED FOR THE CASINGS WERE DEFECTIVE.
