WHILE DRIVING AGT 40 MPH AND ABOVE IF ONE BACK WINDOW IS OPEN THE CAR STARTS TO SHAKE. BY THE TIME YOU REACH 60 MPH THE SHAKING IS OUT OF CONTROL. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND HE CLAIMS THIS NORMAL WIND RATTLE. I DISAGREE. *NM
IT ALL STARTED WITH THE SEATS NOT STAYING IN THERE SETTINGS(DRIVER 1 DRIVER 2. THEN THE AUTO DIMMING REAR MIRRORS WOULD GO DARK AT ANY TIME. THE RAIN SENSOR WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE ON IT OWN. EVEN WHEN IN PARK, THEN THE SEATS STARTED MOVING TO DRIVER 1 THEN 2 AS I WAS DRIVING IT. THE JEEP ALSO HAS A BAD ODOR IN IT. IT IS AT THE DEALER AS I SPEAK, THE JEEP IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. FOG LIGHT GO ON AND OFF AT ANY TIME AS I WAS DRIVING THE JEEP TO THE DEALER THE JEEP STARTED THE SPEED UP ON IT OWN THE CAR HIT 68 MPH IN A 45 MPH ZONE , SO AS YOU WOULD THING A STATE TROOPER PULL ME OVER, HE ASK ME WHY IT TOOK ME SO LONG TO PULL OVER, SO I TOLD HIM THE PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR, WILL THE LOOK HE GAVE ME ! THEN RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM AS THE CAR WAS IN PARK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIT UP LIKE A XMAS TREE AND THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE ALL BY IT SELF, WILL I DID NOT GET A TICKET AND HE FOLLOW ME TO THE DEALER. *NM
THE HAS A TENDENCY TO STALL WHEN SHIFTING GEAR WHILE BACKING UP OUT OF THE DRIVE AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN IDLE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO "CLUNK" MORE THAN A NEW CAR SHOULD. ALSO NOTICED THE TENDENCY FOR THE CAR TO STALL IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. IT SEEMS THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT DISENGAGING PROPERLY PULLING THE RPM BELOW IDLE. SHIFTING THE CAR TO NEUTRAL OR GIVING GAS PREVENTS THE ENGINE FROM STALLING. *JB
ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2005 AT APPROXIMATELY 8:20AM I WAS COMING OFF OF A HIGHWAY EXIT RAMP, WHEN I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. SHORTLY AFTER COMING TO THAT STOP, I NOTICED THAT MY ENGINE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE (REV) AND THAT THE RPM'S ON THE SPEEDOMETER WAS ON ITS WAY DOWN FROM ABOUT 5-6K. BEFORE I HAD A CHANCE TO LOOK BACK UP AT THE ROAD, MY VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND STRUCK THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AS WELL AS MIND. THE IMPACT OF THE COLLISION WAS SO POWERFUL THAT THE VEHICLE THAT I STRUCK WAS PUSHED INTO A SECOND VEHICLE, DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE I STRUCK. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE COLLISION MY VEHICLE'S ENGINE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE (REV), MAKING ME SHIFT THE VEHICLE FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEUTRAL, MY VEHICLE STALLED OUT AND WAS COMPLETELY DISABLED. ONCE I RESTARTED MY VEHICLE, I NOTICED THAT MY VEHICLE'S CHECK ENGINE,THROTTLE IGNITION AND ESP (ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM) LIGHT/INDICATOR WERE ON. I MOVED MY VEHICLE FROM THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT TO A PARKING LOT, ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE STREET AND AWAITED A TOW TRUCK, ALL THE WHILE WITH MY VEHICLE HESITATING TO ACCELERATE. THIS IS WAS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE FIRST TIME WAS ON 08/17/05, WHEN I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A HIGHWAY OFF RAMP, MY VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND THEN STALLED OUT. ONCE ABLE TO TURN ON THE VEHICLE, ALL THE ABOVE INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG, "WE WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE WHAT YOU EXPERIENCED." THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A RESULT OF "BAD GAS." THREE HOURS AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP (08/18/05) THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, AGAIN, AND THIS TIME THEY TOLD ME, "SOMETHING IS WRONG, WE DON'T KNOW WHAT, BUT SOMETHING IS WRONG." EVENTUALLY, THEY REPLACED THE VEHICLE'S CPM (COMPUTER PROGRAMMING MODULE) AND EVERYTHING SEEMED GREAT , UNTIL 09/22/05 AND THE ACCIDENT. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ON THREE OCCASIONS. THE FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE STALLED IN TRAFFIC, AND WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE SECOND TIME THE VEHICLE STALLED, AND WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE THIRD TIME THE VEHICLE STALLED ,AND WAS AGAIN RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED, BUT THE CONTACT HAS NOT PICKED UP THE VEHICLE BECAUSE HE WAS CONCERNED BOUT THIS REPAIR. LIKE ALL THE OTHER REPAIRS IT WAS ONLY TEMPORARY. PRIOR TO THE THIRD INCIDENT THE CONTACT RECEIVED NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V396000 CONCERNING THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.*AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED. TO STOP THE VEHICLE HE PUT IT IN NEUTRAL, WAITED FOR THE RPMS TO COME BACK DOWN. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP EACH TIME, AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. DT: ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2005 WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE SHOOK. ORIGINALLY THOUGHT IT WAS A FLAT TIRE, BUT THERE WAS NOT A FLAT TIRE. VEHICLE IS AT DEALERSHIP, THERE ARE NO CODES SHOWING UP, HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE PROBLEM TO HAPPEN AGAIN, IT SHAKES AS IF AS GOING DOWN ROAD AT 55 MPH WITH A FLAT TIRE. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS SHAKING AND THE VEHICLE SEEMED SLUGGISH LIKE IT DID WANT TO GO. WHEN SLOWING DOWN THE VEHICLE THE VIBRATION WOULD SLOW DOWN. THEN, ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2005 WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND THE LIGHT CAME ON IN THE DASHBOARD . AFTER ANOTHER FIVE OR SIX MILES THE BRAKE PEDAL STARTED VIBRATING, BUT LIKE A SMALLER VIBRATION COMPARED TO THE VIBRATING. THE DEALERSHIP IS LOOKING AT THE BRAKES NOW ALSO. *AK
MY KNEE HIT THE IGNITION SWITCH WHILE I WAS DRIVING, WHICH TURNED THE VEHICLE "OFF" AT 65MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. THE BRAKES AND THE STEERING LOST POWER. THIS IS HAPPENED ABOUT 10 TIMES OVERALL. THANKFULLY, I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ABLE TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON BEFORE ANY ACCIDENTS HAPPENED. *TR
THIS 2005 JEEP CHEROKEE WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW FROM GARY BARBARA JEEP / CHRYSLER, UPON DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE DASH LIGHTS, GAUGES, A/C (HAPPENS WITH HEAT AS WELL) BEGAN GOING ON AND OFF THEN OFF WHILE VEHICLE IS STILL IN MOTION, THIS HAPPENS AT ANY SPEED INCLUDING NO TURN SIGNALS OR BRAKE LIGHTS. THIS SOMETIMES WILL REGAIN NORMAL OPERATION BUT MOST TIMES THE VEHICLE HAS TO BE PULLED OVER AND SHUT OFF THEN RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO THE PURCHASED DEALERSHIP AND ISSUE WAS NOT RESOLVED "SAYING COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG" THEN AS THIS HAS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN WAS TAKEN TO MULTIPLE DEALERSHIPS WITH SAME ISSUE AND SAME RESPONSE. THIS WENT ON THE WHOLE TIME THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY, AND THE ISSUE WAS NEVER RESOLVED. I CONTINUED TO CONTACT CHRYSLER OVER THE YEARS AND NO ONE WOULD RESPOND, AT ONE POINT A CHRYSLER REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME TO GO POUND SAND SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AFTER ME CALLING TO FOLLOW-UP ON ANOTHER (ONE OF MANY) DETAILED LETTER REGARDING THIS ISSUE. THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN AND OBVIOUSLY THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE, I REFUSE TO RESELL THE AUTO AND WANT IT FIXED. I RECENTLY RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE THIS YEAR - 2015 FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH, I AM NOT IMPLYING THIS IS THE REPAIR FIX FOR THE ISSUE BUT RE-OPENED MY QUEST TO GET CHRYSLER TO PROPERLY REPAIR THIS ISSUE. I WAS TOLD BY BOTH CHERRY HILL JEEP/CHRYSLER AND CHRYSLER DIRECT CASE #[XXX] THE PARTS FOR THIS RECALL ARE UNAVAILABLE, A DATE OR TIME FRAME FOR THEM IS UNKNOWN AND IF I WANTED WOULD HAVE TO PAY A $98.00 FEE TO GET THE AUTO DIAGNOSED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF THE POWERLOSS DURING OPERATION OF AUTO. THIS HAS CONTINUED MY BELIEF THAT CHRYSLER REALLY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ITS CUSTOMERS OR ITS PRODUCTS NOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR AUTOMOBILES. TOOK JEEP IN BEFORE RECALL FOR TRANSMISSION THEY REPLACED TORQUE CONVERTER AND STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM AND STILL AFTER 3 TIMES NOT FIXED YET NOW IS SMELLING HOT TACH OUT WHEN STOPPED AND WHEN GOING DOWN HIGHWAY BUT DOES NOT INCREASE IN SPEED. *JB
I LEASED A 2005 GRAND CHEROKEE LARDO (V8) ON JUNE 30, 2005. DURING THE FIRST 1.5 MONTHS THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED OUT LOOSING COMPLETE POWER ON 5 SEPERATE OCCASIONS. JUNE 24TH - PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY JUNE 26TH - BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AUGUST 20TH - PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AUGUST 21ST - WHILE TRAVELING 70MPH ON THE EXPRESSWAY (US-23) WHILE TRAVELING 50MPH ON US-24 WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLS IT WOULD LOOSE COMPLETE POWER (DASH BOARD LIGHTS, RADIO, AND YES POWER STEERING). AFTER THE TWO EXPRESSWAY INCIDENTS I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE AFTER LOOKING AT IT THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, BUT DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS CAUSING IT OR HOW TO FIX IT SO I COULD PICK UP THE VEHICLE THAT AFTERNOON. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THEY HAD A FEW OF THEIR OWN MECHANICS EXPERIENCE THIS SAME PROBLEM, BUT IT JUST WENT AWAY. I ENDED UP GOING THROUGH SEVERAL DIFFERENT MANAGERS BEFORE SPEAKIGN WITH THE DEALERSHIP GENERAL MANAGER. THE FOLLOWING DAY (THE SECOND DAY THEY HAD THE VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE THEY TOLD ME THEY GAVE ME WRONG INFORMATION AND THIS HAS HEVER HAPPENED BEFORE....THEY WERE AWARE OF 2004 GRAND CHEROKEES HAVING A STARTING PROBLEM NOT A STALLING OUT WHILE DRIVING PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ME A NEW VEHICLE OR TERMINATE MY LEASE WHEN I REQUESTED IT SINCE I FEEL THIS CAR IS UNSAFE FOR MY WIFE TO DRIVE WITH MY CHILD. THEY HAVE NOW SENT IT HOME WITH A MECHANIC SO HE CAN DRIVE IT BACK AND FORTH TO WORK TO SEE IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. THEY HAVE NOT REPAIRED OR REPLACED ANY PARTS.
I LEASED A 2005 JEEP CHEROKEE IN JUNE OF 05. WHILE TRAVELING ON I-69 TO INDIANAPOLIS IN AUGUST OF 05 MY JEEP SHUT OFF FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM OF THE SITUATION. THEY TOLD ME IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN TO LET THEM KNOW. EVERYTHING WAS FINE UNTIL JUNE OF 06 WHEN WE WERE AGAIN TRAVEL ON I-69 AND THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AGAIN. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND THEY TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE BUT COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. WE GOT THE VEHICLE BACK AND THREE WEEKS LATER MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING ALONE ON I-69 AND THE VEHICLE AGAIN SHUT OFF ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE HAD IT FOR ABOUT THREE WEEKS WITH VARIOUS PEOPLE DRIVING IT WITH AN AUTO-PILOT HOOKED UP TO IT, BUT NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. SO I NOW HAVE A VEHICLE THAT I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING WITH MY 16 MONTH OLD IN THE CAR FOR FEAR THAT IT WILL JUST SHUT OFF AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT.*JB
OUR 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED GETS STUCK IN 3RD GEA AND WILL NOT SHIFT. IT HAS 12,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE IN AN INTERSETION AND CANNOT MOVE OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY. THE LOCAL CHRYSLER SERVICE MANGER IN SAN RAFAEL HAS TOLD US THAT HE CANNOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND THAT THE CHRYSLER REGIONAL MANAGER HAS NOT RESPONED TO HIM OR TO US. THE FOLKS AT CHRYSLER'S 800 NUMER HAS TOLD US THAT THEY CANNOT HELP US AND REFERRED US TO THE DEALER.
TRANSMISSION: I HAVE A 05 JEEP CHEROKEE THAT HAS CONTINUOUSLY HAD A TRANSMISSION SHUDDER PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING, THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS, FEELS SLUGGISH, JERKING THE VEHICLE FORWARD AND BACKWARD. IT HAPPENS WHILE TRAVELING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, BUT IT IS EXCESSIVE WHILE AT THE 40 MPH & 1500 RPM RANGE. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY DID A TRANSMISSION FLUSH AND TOLD ME TO PICK IT UP. THE SECOND TIME, THEY ORDERED, THEN LATER REPLACED THE DRIVE LINE. THE THIRD TIME TO DEALERSHIP, THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID THEY REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION. IT HAS NOW BEEN DROPPED OFF FOR THE SAME PROBLEM 4 TIMES, AND STILL NO REMEDY. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND TOLD THEM ABOUT A POSSIBLE RECALL I READ ABOUT ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE ON THE PROBLEM I WAS HAVING. THE PUBLIC INFORMATION SPECIFICALLY SUGGESTS A REMEDY, REPLACE THE TORQUE CONVERTER (WHICH HAS NOT BEEN TRIED ON MY VEHICLE). I ASKED THEM WHY THEY COULDN'T USE THAT INFORMATION TO FIX MY VEHICLE SINCE IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY RATHER THAN WAIT TO SEE IF A RECALL IS EVEN ISSUED, AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINEERS ARE WORKING ON A REMEDY FOR THE POSSIBLE RECALL I WAS READING ABOUT, AND IT MAY NOT AFFECT MY VEHICLE. SO, UNTIL THAT RECALL IS ISSUED, NOTHING CAN BE DONE. AIR CONDITIONER:ON 9/22/05, WHILE VEHICLE IN MOTION, AIR CONDITIONER, RADIO, &ALL DASH LIGHTS WENT OFF AT SAME TIME, STAYED OFF FOR 5 SECONDS OR SO, THEN CAME BACK ON. 5 MILES OR SO LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. LATER ON THE SAME DAY, THE AIR CONDITIONER WOULD ONLY WORK ON THE HIGHEST SETTING. ON MY WAY TO THE SERVICE APPOINTMENT THE NEXT DAY, THE AIR CONDITIONER WOULD COME ON AND TURN OFF ITSELF, LIKE IT HAS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN IT OR THE DASH. I CAN ALSO SMELL PLASTIC BURNING/MELTING BUT CAN NOT LOCATE WHERE IT IS COMING FROM. DEALERSHIP NOW STATES THAT PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE TO FIX THE AIR CONDITIONER, AND THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY TIMELINE FOR PARTS AVAILABILITY. NO CLUE WHY THE DASH LIGHTS SHUT DOWN. *JB
I ATTEMPTED TO INSTALL A CAR SEAT FOR A 3 YEAR OLD CHILD IN THE BACK SEAT OF MY 2005 GRAND CHEROKEE. HOWEVER, THE HEAD REST INTERFERED WITH PROPER INSTALLATION OF THE CAR SEAT. THE HEAD REST WOULD NOT ALLOW THE SEAT TO BE TIGHTLY MOUNTED TO THE BACK SEAT OF THE CAR, BUT RATHER HELD THE CHILD SEAT OUT BY ABOUT 2-3 INCHES. THIS PREVENTED THE SEAT FROM BEING SAFELY INSTALLED. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO REMOVE THE HEAD REST FROM THIS VEHICLE. I HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO GET THIS DONE. BUT WHEN THE HEAD REST IS REMOVED, THERE ARE TWO "PRONGS" THAT PROTRUDE OUT, MAKING THE SITUATION EVEN MORE DANGEROUS. I CALLED CHRYSLER TO GET ADVICE ON WHAT TO DO. THEY SAID GO TO THE DEALER, BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM EITHER. I THEN CALLED CHRYSLER AGAIN, AND THEY INSISTED THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM. BUT IT IS! DAIMLER- CHRYLSER NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM. IT IS A DESIGN FLOW. AT THE VERY LEAST THEY SHOULD PROVIDE A LIST OF INFANT CAR SEATS THAT CAN BE PROPERLY INSTALLED -- IF ANY SUCH SEATS EXIST. *JB
DT: THE CONSUMER OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WHICH STALLED AFTER ONLY BEING DRIVEN 450 MILES. THE STALLING ONLY OCCURRED AFTER COLD STARTS OR WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. THIS OCCURRED AT REDUCED SPEEDS WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIED BRAKE PRESSURE. THE ENGINE WOULD SIMPLY SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WILL IMMEDIATELY RESTART ON THE FIRST TRY. AFTERWARDS, THE VEHICLE WILL RUN FINE WITH NO OTHER PROBLEMS. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST SIX TO EIGHT TIMES. THE CONSUMER HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND OFFERED NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THIS PROBLEM OCCURS. THE DEALER DID PERFORM A DIAGNOSTICS TEST WHICH PRODUCED NO FAULT CODES OR FAILURES. THE LAST VISIT TO THE DEALER DID PROMPT A REPLACEMENT OF THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR, BUT THE DEALER DID NOT SAY WHY THIS CORRECTION WAS NECESSARY. SINCE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR THE VEHICLE HAS NOT STALLED. HOWEVER, THERE WAS A SLIGHT MISS IN THE ENGINE WHEN BRAKE PRESSURE WAS APPLIED. THE CONSUMER PLANNED TO CONTACT THE JEEP MANUFACTURER AT THIS TIME. *AK *MR
WITH ONLY 10,500 MILES ON OUR LEASED 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED- THE VEHICLE HAS SPENT THE LAST 27 DAYS IN A SERVICE REPAIR CENTER. THE ISSUES BEGAN WITH A ROUGH TRANSMISSION, CAR STICKING IN 3RD GEAR - "LIMP MODE" (REQUIRED CAR TO PULL OVER, PARK & RESTART TO DISABLE LIMP MODE), AC GETTING HOT ON ACCELERATION WITH STRONG CHEMICAL SMELL, GREASY OIL LEAK ON INSIDE OF CABIN OUT OF HOOD RELEASE OPENING, EXCESSIVE ROAD NOISE, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON, AND EASY ENTRY/EXIT SEAT NOT FUNCTIONING. ACCORDING TO MY TEN PAGE INVOICE, THE SERVICE CENTER REPLACED THE REAR DRIVE SHAFT, ENTIRE TRANSMISSION, ALMOST ALL THE MODULES (ONE OF WHICH WAS ALREADY REPLACED FOR FOG LIGHT RECALL), UPDATED FIRMWARE, A KICK PANEL AND TRIM ON THE INSIDE OF THE CABIN THAT WAS STAINED FROM GREASE LEAK, BALANCED ALL 4 TIRES, POWER FLUSHED, REPLACED SENSORS... AMONGST OTHER THINGS. MY HUSBAND AND I WERE INFORMED THAT THE AC UNIT WAS LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION, THAT IT WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE JEEPS, 300S AND DODGES. SO SERIOUS, IN FACT, THAT CHRYSLER MAY BE CONSIDERING A MASS RECALL TO REMEDY A GROSS OVERSIGHT ON THEIR PART TO PHYSICALLY BEND A DIP STICK TO FIT PARTS AROUND IT- CAUSING A GAP AT THE BASE OF THE RUBBER GASKET THAT ENABLED WATER TO ENTER TRANS (THRO WIRING HARNESS). IT TOOK THE SERVICE CENTER 45 MINUTES TO EXPLAIN ALL THE ISSUES WITH OUR CAR & WHAT WAS DONE TO IT TO FIX IT. I HAVE HAD THE SAME COMPLAINT ABOUT MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 5.7L AUTOMATIC TRANSMISION AS THE RECALL NOTICE DESCRIBED BELOW. SINCE LATE MARCH OF 06' WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE A/C BLOWING COLD, THEN THE AIR TURNS 2 WARM OR HOT AIR BLOWING FROM 3 SEC 2 MINUTES OF BLOWING HUMID AIR BEFORE THE SYSTEM WILL KICK IN AGAIN WITH COLD AIR. THE HEAD RESTS STRIKE THE TOP OF THE CAR SEAT SO THAT THE CONSUMER CAN NOT PUT THE CAR SEAT FLUSH AGAINST THE BACK SEAT. THE ONLY PLACE THE CAR SEAT WILL PROPERLY FIT IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE REAR SEAT. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT TWO CAR SEATS CAN'T BE IN THE BACK SEAT. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY REFERRED HIM TO A DEALER THAT IS LICENSED TO INSTALL CAR SEATS. THE DEALER TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM, THE DEALER HAD ALREADY INFORMED THE MANUFACTURER OF THE PROBLEM. MANUFACTURER SAYS THAT THEY HAVE FIXED PROBLEM FOR 2006 YEAR MODEL BY REPLACING THE HEADRESTS, BUT THEY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING TO RETROFIT 2005 YEAR MODELS. ALSO, THE DEALER SUGGESTED THE AUTOMATIC CONTROL OF THE SUNROOF ASSEMBLY WHICH FAILED TO WORK PROPERLY WAS RELATED TO THE ONGOING TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AS WELL, BUT NO FURTHER REPAIRS WERE MADE.
THIS PROBLEM STARTED WHEN VEHICLE WAS NEW. YOU WOULD BE RIDING DOWN THE ROAD AND ALL THE ELECTRICAL WOULD FAIL. INSTRUMENT WARNING LIGHTS COME ON. IN SOME INSTANCE THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. I TOOK POSSESSION OF A NEW JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ON 29 JUNE 2005. THAT AFTERNOON, WHEN FIRST DRIVEN ABOVE 60 MPH, A FRONT-END VIBRATION (OSCILLATION) WAS IMMEDIATELY EVIDENT. ACTUALLY THE VIBRATION IS PRESENT AT ALL SPEEDS. I ARRANGED FOR A SERVICE APPOINTMENT AT STEVE CHRISTY CHRYSLER JEEP HERE IN TUCSON. MY FIRST WARRANTY VISIT FOR THE VIBRATION PROBLEM WAS MADE ON 18 JULY 2005. THE DIAGNOSIS THERE WAS A BAD TIRE, WHICH I HAD REPLACED AT A GOODYEAR TIRE SHOP PER INSTRUCTIONS FROM THIS DEALERSHIP. IT HAD NO EFFECT ON THE VIBRATION. I HAVE SINCE BEEN IN TO JIM CLICK CHRYSLER JEEP IN TUCSON ON THREE OCCASIONS FOR A TOTAL OF EIGHT FULL DAYS. THE VIBRATION PERSISTS. I WAS INFORMED THAT I WOULD BE UNABLE TO HAVE FURTHER REPAIR ATTEMPTS WITHOUT DIRECTION FROM CHRYSLER ENGINEERING. THE LATEST REPAIR ATTEMPT RESULTED IN A MODIFICATION TO THE DRIVE SHAFT BY ADDING SIX WEIGHTS AT POSITIONS ON THE DRIVE SHAFT. AFTER THIS ACTIVITY, WHICH DID NOT FIX THE VIBRATION, I WAS TOLD THAT THE REMAINING VIBRATION WAS " IN THE DESIGN". I HAD A LOCAL RESPECTED AUTOMOTIVE SHOP EVALUATE THE VIBRATION AND THEY CONCLUDED IT HAD A PROBLEM. I ASKED THREE FELLOW ENGINEERS TO EVALUATE THE VIBRATION AND ALL CONCLUDED THERE WAS A PROBLEM. (NOTE, ONE OF THE ENGINEERS HAS FIVE YEARS EXPERIENCE DRIVING AND TESTING VEHICLES PROFESSIONALLY.) CHRYSLER STILL CLAIMS THE VIBRATION IS " IN THE DESIGN". THE VIBRATION IS BAD ENOUGH THAT I AM AFRAID TO TAKE THE VEHICLE ON A ROAD TRIP OR TOW A TRAILER. THE VIBRATION IS AT TIMES VIOLENT AND I DO NOT KNOW IF SOMETHING COULD BREAK OR IF THE OSCILLATION COULD CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL. I WAS INFORMED BY A MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR THAT THERE WERE TWO REASONS FOR CHRYSLER TO TAKE THE "IN THE DESIGN" POSITION. 1) THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES THAT MADE IT OUT OF THE FACTORY WITH THIS PROBLEM AND 2) THE PROBLEM IS A CHASSIS ALIGNMENT FLAW AND CAN NOT BE REPAIRED. *NM

PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED ALONG WTH UPDATES TO THE CALIBRATION BY CHRYSLER ALL TO NO SOLUTION. PROBLEM USUALLY RETURNS LESS THAN A DAY OR TWO AFTER RECEIVING VEHICLE FROM DEALERSHIP. DEALER NOTED ONE OTHER CUSTOMER IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, CHRYSLER IS TRYING DIFFERENT METHODS ON EACH VEHICLE TOP CORRECT THE PROBLEM....IE. THEY ARE NOT SURE WHY IT IS HAPPENING AND ARE BASICALLY THROWING DARTS HOPING TO CURE THE PROBLEM.

HIGH SIDE AC VALVE SHOWING SIGNS OF OIL LEAKING AROUND THE CAPPED VALVE. UPON REPAIR IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE VALVE AND THE REPLACED TUBE ARE TWO ASSEMBLIES AND STILL LEAKED FREON. SERVICE DEALER IN TRYING TO STOP THE LEAK TURNED OFF AND DISCHARGED THE FREON WITH THE CUSTOMER STANDING IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. *JB
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT GOES ON INTERMITTENTLY. JEEP TOLD ME IT HAS TO DO WITH THE SWITCH IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. JEEP SAID THAT AFTER SOMEONE SITS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT A FEW TIMES THAT SWITCH WILL WORK PROPERLY AND THE LIGHT WILL NOT GO ON ANYMORE.
CAR PURCHASED 6/20/05 WITH 0 MILES. CAR TAKEN TO REPAIR 7/11/05 WITH 450 MILES. SOME WHERE ON THE RESIDENTIAL STREETS A PEBBLE WENT INTO THE CAR AND DAMAGED THE AIR COMPRESSOR. FREON HAS BEEN LEAKING SINCE THE IMPACT. THE SERVICE DEPT CAN NOT PIN POINT JUST HOW LONG THE FREON HAS BEEN LEAKING BUT ALL I KNOW IS THAT I AM 6 MONTHS PREGNANT AND HAVE 2 OTHER LITTLE GIRLS THAT HAVE BEEN INHAILING THIS FREON. THE CAR DAMAGE IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARANTY SINCE THIS IS A ROAD HAZARD. HOWEVER, THE CAR IS DESIGNED TO DRIVE THROUGH MOUNTAINS AND ROCKY ROADS. THERE IS A DESIGNER FAULT SINCE THE NEW CARS DO NOT HAVE A PROTECTION GRID /NET TO PREVENT DEBRIS FROM DOING SUCH DAMAGE. THE OLDER MODELS DO HAVE THIS. WHEN I ASKED THE SERVICE DEPT OF PREVENTION DEVISE THEY ONLY STATED THAT THE CAR WAS DESIGNED THIS WAY AND THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS SIMULAR PROBLEM WITH THIS NEW JEEP LAREDO 2005.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE THE CONTACT'S WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, SHE APPROACHED A STOP SIGN AND DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE LIGHT CHANGED BEFORE SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP SO SHE RELEASED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE TO HER RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE MAY BE LOCATED IN THE THROTTLE BODY. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. WHILE ON VACATION, THE UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION RECURRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AREA DEALER AND THEY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS, BUT WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. ONCE HE RETURNED HOME, HE CALLED HIS LOCAL DEALER AND WAS INFORMED TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS WITH THE ADJUSTABLE BRAKE AND GAS PEDALS CAUSING UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO LEAVE THE PEDALS DOWN AS CLOSE TO THE FLOOR AS POSSIBLE TO AVOID THE FAILURE RECURRING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE IS 7500. VEHICLE EXPERIENCES A SHUDDERING, HESITATION OR BUCKING MOTION WHEN DRIVING AROUND TOWN 20-30 MPH AND ALSO ON THE HIGHWAY. TAKEN TO BLEVINS BROTHERS IN OGDENSBURG, NY AND HAD E13 RECALL COMPLETED. PROBLEM CONTINUED. E-MAILED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER RELATIONS ABOUT PROBLEM AND TOLD THE INFO I WAS REQUESTING WAS "EITHER PROPRIETARY OR UNAVAILABLE". ALSO MADE A PHONE CALL TO CHRYSLER CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND HAD THEM NOTE ADDITIONAL COMPLAINT REGARDING PROBLEM. BLEVINS BROTHERS SERVICE MANAGER ARRANGED FOR VEHICLE TO BE TAKEN BY A TECHNICIAN TO A DAIMLER CHRYSLER SCHOOL FOR EVALUATION BY COURSE INSTRUCTOR. HE AGREED THERE WAS A PROBLEM AND SUGGESTED REPLACEMENT OF TORQUE CONVERTER AS WATER MAY HAVE DAMAGED UNIT PRIOR TO E13 RECALL COMPLETION. TORQUE CONVERTER WAS REPLACED. PROBLEM CONTINUED AND BECAME WORSE DUE TO FALL AND WINTER TEMPERATURE DROP. WAS ADVISED BY BLEVINS BROTHERS TO CALL CHRYSLER CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND HAVE THEM OPEN A CLAIM ON THE VEHICLE. CHRYSLER REFUSED TO OPEN CAIR CLAIM AND TOLD ME I SHOULD CONTACT DEALER. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THERE WAS A BOOKLET IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT I SHOULD READ. THE BOOKLET REFERRED TO PROVIDED INFO ABOUT STATE LEMON LAWS. DEALER SAID CHRYSLER HAS TOLD THEM THIS IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE AND THERE IS NO FIX FOR IT NOR IS ANY PLANNED. A CHRYLSER ENGINEER (GARY VLECK) SAYS THEY HAVEN'T HAD ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS. HE REFUSED TO COME TO THE DEALERSHIP TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I FEEL THIS A FLAW IN THE MDS (MULTI-DISPLACEMENT SYSTEM) THAT REGULATES WHETHER THERE ARE 8 OR 4 CYLINDERS IN OPERATION. I ALSO FEEL CHRYSLER IS TRYING TO STONEWALL THE PROBLEM BY TELLING CUSTOMERS THAT THIS IS HOW THEIR VEHICLE IS SUPPOSED TO OPERATE. THEY ARE HOPING CUSTOMERS WILL NOT TAKE IT ANY FURTHER AND GIVE UP. DOOR PANEL HANDLES CRACKED ON ALL 4 DOORS, UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE FROM THE BACK. PASSENGERS ARE UNABLE TO OPEN DOOR. PLASTIC CRACKED AND FINALLY GAVE WAY IN THE REAR OF VEHICLE, FRONT DOORS ARE CRACKED AND VERY CLOSE TO GIVING WAY. HUGE SAFETY ISSUE HERE. I HAVE A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. SEVERAL TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT IT IN MARCH THE ENGINE HAS SUDDENLY STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. WHEN I STOP THE CAR AND PUT IT IN NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE WILL IMMEDIATELY RESTART. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. THIS IS FAR MORE THAN A NUISANCE. HOWEVER, THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT HIS REGIONAL MANAGER HAS EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HIS 2005 JEEP. HOWEVER I HAVE DISCOVERED THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. THE KEY AND IGNITION SWITCH HAVE BEEN MOUNTED ON THE STEERING COLUMN. SHOULD THE DRIVER INADVERTENTLY BUMP THE KEY WITH HIS/HER LEG, YOU CAN STOP THE CAR. I HAVE CONFIRMED THIS CONDITION AND REPORTED IT TO THE DEALER. HE MENTIONED THAT THE REGIONAL MANAGER ALSO SUSPECTED THIS WAS THE CASE. I AM A NORMAL SIZED MALE, 165 POUNDS, 5' 11". IT SHOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE TO STOP THE CAR IN THE MANNER I AM DESCRIBING. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME SEVERAL TIMES SINCE I TOOK DELIVERY OF THE VEHICLE. HEAD RESTRAINT ON MY NEW JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED (2005) TILTS FORWARD A FEW INCHES (COMPARED WITH MY PREVIOUS 2002 LAREDO). THERE IS NO ADJUSTMENT TO PULL THE HEAD RESTRAINT BACK, ONLY AN UP AND DOWN OPTION. THE HEAD RESTRAINT IS PUSHING MY HEAD FORWARD INSTEAD OF IT BEING STRAIGHT WITH MY BODY AS I DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THIS TURTLES THE HEAD AND CAUSES HEADACHES. THE MANUFACTURER AND JEEP DEALER HAVE NOT PROVIDED A REMEDY OR REFUND THUS FAR.
NEW 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS BEEN IN/OUT OF DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES FOR LEAKS IN FRONT A-PILLARS. HAS BEEN IN SHOP 2X FOR THE TRANSMISSION RECALL, AND A MISTAKE THEY MADE COMPLETING THE SERVICES. CAR IS GOING INTO SHOP AGAIN BECAUSE THE AUTO SENSOR ON THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR IS MALFUNCTIONING. WE FILED LEMON LAW WITH DAIMLER, AND ARE AWAITING A RESPONSE. SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN JANUARY I HAVE HAD ABOUT A DOZEN INCIDENTS WHERE UPON FULLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE THE GAS PEDAL WAS ALSO PRESSED ACCELERATING THE CAR. THE MOST FRIEGHTENING TIME WAS ON THE 12TH. WHERE THE CAR SHOT OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND I HAD TO SWERVE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. IT IS MORE LIKELY TO HAPPEN WHEN WEARING MORE BULKY SHOES. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDAL ARE IMPROPERLY LOCATED WITH RESPECT TO EACH OTHER. I HAVE DRIVEN MANY CARS OVER MY LIFETIME AND THIS IS THE ONLY CAR THAT HAS PRESENTED THIS PROBLEM.
