DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, THE ENGINE REVVED AND MADE A LOUD ROARING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED, BUT DID NOT DETECT ANY FAILURE CODES. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 4/11/2006 - *NM
2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE PURCHASED BRAND NEW. VEHICLE STALLS WHILE MAKING SHARP LEFT TURN (1ST OCCURRENCE). THIS LEFT ME WITH NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IN MARCH OF 2006, VEHICLE STALLED WHILE MAKING SAME LEFT TURN. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. DEALER COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD TO "BRING IT BACK IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN". ON 11/14/06, VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT. AGAIN I HAD NO CONTROL OF VEHICLE. RETURNED TO DEALER, VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY MECHANIC AND REGIONAL MANAGER. CALLED BY SERVICE MANAGER AND WAS TOLD "VEHICLE WILL NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM, COME AND PICK UP VEHICLE, CAR RENTAL WILL NOT BE COVERED AT THIS POINT". TOLD HIM I WILL NOT PICK IT UP UNTIL SOMETHING IS DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. I AM VERY UNCOMFORTABLE PUTTING MY FAMILY IN THIS CAR, IT'S TOO UNPREDICTABLE. I WAS THEN TOLD IT'S OUT OF HIS HANDS, IT'S A MANUFACTURE PROBLEM. CONTACT CHRYSLER DIRECT. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT. I WAS GIVEN A REFERENCE NUMBER AND WAS TOLD I WOULD BE CONTACTED IN 3 BUSINESS DAYS. I REALIZED THIS WAS RIGHT AROUND THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY AND A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE ON VACATION. THE FOLLOWING WEEK I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD MY FILE IS WITH THE DEALER AND THEY SHOULD BE CONTACTING ME TO ARRANGE AN "EXIT STRATEGY" . MY HUSBAND WAS PRESENT WHEN THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED THE REGIONAL MANAGER VIA CELL AND OVERHEARD THE REGIONAL MANAGER STATE HE KNOWS NOTHING OF THE PROBLEM. HE WAS THEN REMINDED THAT HE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE IN PERSON ON 11/17/06. THE REGIONAL MANGERS COMMENT WAS THEN "OH, THAT CAR, IT'S STILL THERE"? HE THEN PROCEEDED TO SAY "THIS IS JUST A CASE OF BUYERS REMORSE, THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE". I AM STILL WAITING ON A RESPONSE FROM SOMEONE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE ENGINE STALLED. WHILE USING THE AIR CONDITIONER OR DEFROSTER WATER LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING IT TO FAIL. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, #05V396000 CONCERNING THE POWER TRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HOWEVER THE RECALL DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER WAS ALERTED AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED WHICH REMEDIED THE PROBLEM.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE RPMS INCREASED VERY RAPIDLY. UPON INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND THE TRANSMISSION. THE DEALER REPLACED MULTIPLE PARTS IN AN ATTEMPT TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM HOWEVER, THE SURGING PROBLEM CONTINUED. *AK
WE HAVE A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE ADJUSTABLE GAS PEDAL IN OUR COMPANY CAR A 2005 JEEP. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE PEDAL ADJUSTMENT HAS NO INDICATOR THAT LETS YOU KNOW THAT THE PEDAL HAS BEEN MOVED BY ANOTHER EMPLOYEE. RECENTLY WE HAD AN EVENT WERE AN EMPLOYEE DROVE THE CAR A LONG DISTANCE AND DID NOT KNOW THAT THE JEEP HAD AN ADJUSTABLE PEDAL. THE EMPLOYEE COMPLAINED THAT HIS FOOT CRAMPED DURING THE 300 MILE TRIP AND HE DID NOT KNOW WHY. HE WAS NOT AWARE OF THE ADJUSTABLE PEDAL FEATURE OF THE JEEP SINCE THERE WAS NO INDICATOR LIGHT OR GAUGE TO LET HIM KNOW THAT THE PEDAL HAD BEEN SET FOR A MUCH SHORTER PERSON. THE EMPLOYEE ALSO COMPLAINED THAT DURING THIS TRIP HE FOUND HIMSELF DRIVING FASTER THAN THE SPEED LIMIT AND HAD TO USE CRUISE CONTROL TO MAINTAIN HIS SPEED...AGAIN HE WAS NOT AWARE THAT THE PEDAL HAD BEEN MOVED CLOSER TO THE DRIVER AND HIS NORMAL POSITION OF HIS FOOT PUSHED THE PEDAL DOWN MORE THEN NORMAL. *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING OR IN PARK THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF WHEN THE CONTACT'S KNEE TOUCHED THE KEY. EVEN WHEN THE SEAT WAS MOVED FARTHER BACK THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED. THE KEY CONTAINS THE REMOTE KEYPAD ON IT, WHICH MAKES THE KEY LARGER AND EASY TO BE HIT. THE IGNITION IS LOCATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE IGNITION CYLINDER IN AN ATTEMPT TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM FROM OCCURRING WITHOUT SUCCESS. UPDATED 03/22/06
I HAVE NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SOME MONTHS NOW. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS PROBLEM AT LEAST THREE DIFFERENT TIMES. MY ENGINE COMES ON AND STAYS ON FOR DAYS AT A TIME. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THAN FOR LAST FEW MONTHS, WHILE I AM DRIVING ALL THE GEARS ON MY DASHBOARD LIGHT UP AND WONT ALLOW ME TO GIVE THE CAR ANY GAS, AND MAKES A SOUND LIKE THE ENGINE IS REVING UP. THIS CAN HAPPEN TWO TO FIVE TIMES A DAY. NOW, WHEN I PUT THE CAR FROM PARK TO REVERSE IT IS A MAKING A LONG BANGING NOISE AND JERKING THE CAR. *JB
I HAVE A 2005 JEEP CHEROKEE WITH A V8 ENGINE THAT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. MY CAR SAT FOR 5 DAYS WHILE I WAS ON VACATION. UPON RETURNING THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD, I HAD THE BATTERY JUMPED AND DROVE HOME FROM AIRPORT. THE BATTERY WAS DEAD AGAIN THE NEXT MORNING, VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. AFTER REPLACING THE BATTERY AND AN OIL CHANGE, THE VEHICLE BEGAN STALLING WHEN STOPPED AT RED LIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO LUNGING FORWARD WHEN STOPPED. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP FOUR TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE GOTTEN THE SAME RESPONSE "ROAD TESTED- NORMAL CONDITION AT THIS TIME". THE SERVICE REP EVEN CALLED ME TO TELL ME HE DROVE THE VEHICLE AND THOUGHT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION, THAT THERE IS A HESITATING SHIFT AND A JERKS HARD FORWARD ON ACCELERATION. HOWEVER THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG. VEHICLE HAS 9,000 MILES. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AT ANY SPEED THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, BUT COULD NOT DETERMINED WHAT REMEDY TO USE. ALSO, THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS ILLUMINATED DIM AND BRIGHT. THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WERE REPLACED TWICE IN AN ATTEMPT TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM . HOWEVER, HAD NO SUCCESS. UPDATED 05/30/06. *JB
WHEN OPENING THE HOOD FOR OIL CHANGES OR WHEN OPENING THE BACK LIFT, THE HYDRAULIC SUPPORT RODS DO NOT HOLD. I HAVE HAD THEM REPLACED TWICE EACH AND AFTER A SHORT TIME THEY FAIL TO HOLD.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR HEAD REST DID NOT PULL DOWN TO ALLOW A CHILD SEAT TO BE SECURED IN THE SEAT SAFELY. BECAUSE OF THE HEAD REST THE CHILD SEAT WAS PUSHED FORWARD. THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THE HEAD REST IS DESIGNED IN THAT MANOR AND IT IS A PROBLEM IN THAT TYPE OF VEHICLES.
2005 GRAND CHEROKEE BRAKE & ACCELERATOR PEDAL ARE AT THE SAME LEVEL. *TS *JB THE CONSUMER STATED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKE TO STOP, HE ALSO APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE. HE STATED THE TWO PEDALS ARE ADJUSTABLE, BUT, THEY ARE ADJUSTABLE TOGETHER NOT SEPARATELY. UPDATED 04/08/10.*JB
ORANGE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT ON AT ALL TIMES, EVEN WITH PASSENGER SEAT UNOCCUPIED SINCE DAY OF PURCHASE. CUSTOMER WAS TOLD AT DEALERSHIP THAT THIS WAS NORMAL IF SEAT WAS UNOCCUPIED. AFTER A FEW MONTHS, THE ORANGE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT AND THE RED AIR BAG LIGHT ARE ON CONTINUOUSLY, OR THE ILLUMINATIONS ALTERNATE EVERY FEW MINUTES. JEEP CHEROKEE TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP. CUSTOMER WAS TOLD IT WAS A CALIBRATION PROBLEM, AND THAT THE ORANGE LIGHT SHOULD ONLY BE ON IF BETWEEN 1 AND 25 POUNDS OR SO WHERE IN THE SEAT. NO PROBLEMS FOR ONE MONTH (LIGHTS WERE OFF, NO PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE). ORANGE AND RED LIGHTS NOW ALTERNATING AGAIN EVERY FEW MINUTES YESTERDAY AND TODAY (MARCH 1&2, 2006). *NM
2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 4X4. - TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP AT 6,000 MILES. TOOK IT TO DEALER, WHO DID A SERVICE, AND SAID ALL WAS FINE. RAN TERRIBLE FROM THEN ON. - TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 24,000 MILES . DEALER SAID THIS WAS RARE. TOOK 2 WEEKS TO REPLACE! RAN DECENTLY FOR 10,000 MILES OR SO THEN PROBLEMS CAME BACK. - TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 38,000 MILES, IN AN INTERSECTION WITH MY KID IN THE CAR. DEALER THEN ADMITTED THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH JEEPS. TOOK 5 WEEKS TO REPLACE. - TRANSMISSION STARTING TO SLIP AND SKIP AGAIN AT 68,000 MILES. NO SERVICE PLANNED AS I AM TURNING IT BACK IN FROM MY LEASE AND NEVER GETTING A JEEP AGAIN!*AK
2005 GRAND CHEROKEE SHUT OFF, LOCKING IN THIRD GEAR. *TS THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASION FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHEN DRIVING AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF THIRD GEAR. WHEN MAKING A TURN THE TRACTION LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE ENGINE STALLED OUT MAINLY ON RIGHT TURNS. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER PURCHASING A NEW VEHICLE HE DISCOVERED THAT THE SEAT BELT STRAPS DID NOT HAVE ADEQUATE LENGTH TO LOCK INTO THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY FOR LARGE OCCUPANTS. THE DEALERSHIP PROVIDED FREE SEAT BELT EXTENDERS. UPDATED 3/9/2006 - *NM
WE LEASED A 2005 JEEP CHEROKEE IN JANUARY 2005 AND IN JANUARY 2006 EVERYTHING ON THE DASHBOARD STARTED TO CUT OFF INCLUDING TURN SIGNALS, ODOMETER... AND EVERYTHING ON THE DASH INCLUDING THE CD PLAYER, THE BUTTONS FOR THE HEATER/AC WOULD OVERHEAT AND THE CAR BEGAN TO SMOKE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. WE TOOK IT IN TO GALEANA, THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM, WHICH APPARENTLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN QUITE OFTEN WITH CHYRSLER AUTOMOBILES. SHORTLY AFTER THE CAR BEGAN TO BREAK DOWN EVERYWHERE. IF I PARKED THE CAR AT A STORE, WORK, HOME... AND WENT BACK TO START IT, IT WOULD NOT CRANK. THIS HAPPENS 8 OUT OF 10 TIMES AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES AND THEY COULD NOT "DUPLICATE" A PROBLEM AND NOW THEY TELL ME THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME. SHORTLY AFTER THAT AT THE END OF 2006, AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY A "PEBBLE" AS THE DEALERSHIP CALLS IT, WENT THROUGH MY GRILL AND HIT THE TRANSMISSION COOLANT, SPRAYING TRANSMISSION FLUID EVERYWHERE ALMOST CATCHING ON FIRE WITH ME AND MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN IT. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND APPARENTLY THE TRANSMISSION WAS BLOWN OUT, $4,000 DOLLARS TO REPLACE. ALL OF OUR OTHER PROBLEMS STILL EXISTS AND CHRYSLER DOES NOT WANT TO FIX THE PROBLEMS OR LET US OUT OF THE LEASE. I HAVE TRIED TALKING TO CHRYSLER AND GETTING THIS ISSUE RESOLVED ONLY TO HEAR THEM TELLING ME THAT THIS WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. THIS IS BECOMING A TREND IN THEIR BUSINESS AND IF THEY CANNOT FIX THE VEHICLES THEY MANUFACTURED THEY SHOULD NOT BE MAKING THE VEHICLES IN THE FIRST PLACE. *JB
***SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH 2005 JEEP CHEROKEE LAREDO 3.7*** JUST AFTER PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE IN FEB 2006 DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE AIR CONDITIONER BECAUSE IT WOULD ONLY WORK AT ONE SPEED. AFTER THAT THE TRANSFER CASE AND SHIFTER HAD TO BE REPLACED, NEXT THE WINDSHIELD BEGAN TO LEAK MOLDING THE CARPETS, NEXT THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN MAKING LOUD CLICKING NOISE WHEN MAKING DEEP TURNS, VEHICLE ALSO HAS SEVERE HESITATION WHEN GOING UP HILLS, NOW MY MECHANIC SAYS THERE IS TRANSMISSION FLUID ALL UNDER THE VEHICLE. HAVE ALSO BUMPED MY KNEE AGAINST THE KEY RESULTING IN STALLING. WORST OF ALL ONLY GETTING 12-14 MPG!!!!!!HAVE OWNED JEEPS IN THE PAST, VERY UNHAPPY WITH THIS ONE. *JB
BRAND NEW 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO, RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WAS BEING OPENED, A GUST OF WIND CAUGHT THE DOOR AND HYPER-EXTENDED IT CAUSING IT TO BE MISALINGED. THE NEXT TIME THE DOOR WAS OPENED, THE FRONT LIP OF THE DOOR CAUGHT ON THE REAR OF THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER AND CAUSED A DENT IN THE FENDER APPROXIMATELY 6 INCHES LONG AND 3 INCHES WIDE. TO PROPERLY FIX DAMAGE, RIGHT FRONT FENDER WAS REPLACED AND PAINTED, RIGHT FRONT DOOR WAS REPAIRED AND REPAINTED, HOOD WAS REPAINTED TO BLEND WITH NEW PAINT ON FENDER AND DOOR. TOTAL COST OF REPAIRS WAS APPROXIMATELY $1,300. IMPORTANT TO NOTE, NO OTHER DAMAGE TO ANY OTHER VEHICLES, PROPERTY OR PEOPLE WAS CAUSED BY THIS GUST OF WIND. IT HAPPENED IN A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT AND THERE WERE LOTS OF OTHER PEOPLE, CARS AND PROPERTY AROUND. NOTHING ELSE WAS DAMAGED AND THE GUST OF WIND SEEMED VERY MINOR. IN 30+ YEARS OF DRIVING I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED DAMAGE TO A DOOR DUE TO A WIND GUST NOR HAVE I EVER HEARD FROM ANYONE I KNOW OF RECEIVING DAMAGE TO A DOOR DUE TO A WIND GUST. THIS APPEARS TO ME TO BE A DOOR HINGE DESIGN FLAW. *NM
ROTORS ARE WARPED AND PULL TO RIGHT. THE PROBLEM STARTED WITH LESS THAN 15K MILES ON THE VEHICLE. IT APPEARS TO BE SIMILAR IN NATURE TO 1999-2004 JEEPS. DEALER SAYS I CAN JUST PAY TO HAVE THEM TURN ROTORS! *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V396000 REGARDING THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE, BUT AFTERWARDS IT CONTINUED TO SHUDDER WHILE DRIVING. ALTHOUGH THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED ACCORDINGLY THE VEHICLE HAD A STRONG SHUDDER THAT COULD PHYSICALLY BE FELT BY THE CONTACT AS WELL AS A LOUD CHATTER FROM THE TRANSMISSION. WHILE SHIFTING FROM PARK TO REVERSE THERE WAS A LOUD CLANKING NOISE. ASIDE FROM THE PROBLEM WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DISPLAYED SOME ABNORMALITIES. WHILE DRIVING THE DASHBOARD PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND ALL OF THE GAUGES, SUCH AS THE FUEL AND SPEEDOMETER FAILED TO REGISTER. THE DEFROSTER WHICH WAS IN USE AT THAT TIME STOPPED WORKING. THIS PROBLEM LASTED ONLY A MATTER OF SECONDS BUT RETURNED TO NORMAL WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THIS OCCURRED 5 OR 6 TIMES IN A 5 MILE RADIUS AND ABRUPTLY STOPPED WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT. WHEN THE CONTACT RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM WAS REPORTED TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THE CONTACT LEFT THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. HOWEVER, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OF MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ,BEGAN ACTING UNUSUAL IN MID NOVEMBER 2005. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD CLUNK WHEN PUT INTO DRIVE , THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO HESITATE BEFORE MOVING, ALSO ON 2 OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE WOULD DOWN SHIFT TO FIRST GEAR AND THEN BACK TO DRIVE ON ITS OWN WHILE IN MOTION. ON DECEMBER 18, 2005 I TOLD THE JEEP DEALER SERVICE MANGER OF THE PROBLEM WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN , I HAD RECEIVED FROM DAIMLER-CHRYSLER A RECALL NOTICE CONCERNING THE TRANSMISSION , AS FAR AS I KNOW THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMED THE RECALL REPAIR. THE VEHICLE SEEMED FINE UNTIL DECEMBER 30, 2005 WHEN WHILE TRAVELING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AT 55 MILES PER HOUR WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED THE VEHICLE AGAIN DOWNSHIFTED TO FIRST GEAR MOMENTARILY , ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON THEN SHIFTED BACK TO DRIVE THE ENGINE REVVED UP AND SPEED UP UNEXPECTEDLY . I THEN LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE SPINNING OUT AND HITTING THE CONCRETE DIVIDER WALL OF THE EXPRESSWAY. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED OVER $10,000 IN DAMAGE, LUCKILY THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO ME OR MY PASSENGER. I HAVE NOTIFIED CHRYSLER AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY OF PROBLEM, AT THIS POINT I HAVE NOT AUTHORIZED ANY COLLISION REPAIRS TO THIS VEHICLE. CHRYSLER SAID THEY WOULD INSPECT THE VEHICLE, I AWAIT TO SEE WHAT THEY WILL DO. GRAND CHEROKEE SHUT OFF BY ITSELF (LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKES). CAR STARTED RIGHT BACK UP. THIS HAPPENED ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AROUND A SHARP CURVE AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CAR ACCIDENT WITH INJURIES OR EVEN DEATH. BECAUSE OF THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS OUR JEEP STOPPED DEAD WHILE WE WERE GOING 65 MILES AN HOUR ON THE NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE. LUCKILY WE WERE NOT KILLED. WE HAD IT TOWED OVER 100 MILES TO OUR DEALER ON LONG ISLAND (EAST HILLS CHRYSLER JEEP) TO HAVE IT FIXED. THEY SWORE THEY FIXED IT A FEW DAYS LATER, ONLY FOR THIS TO HAPPEN TO US AGAIN A MONTH LATER. WE TOWED IT AGAIN TO OUR JEEP DEALER AND SHORTLY AFTER WE WERE TOLD, THIS TIME IT WAS REALLY FIXED. FOR THE THIRD TIME, A MONTH LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THE JACK IN THE CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO JACK THE CAR HIGH ENOUGH TO GET THE FLAT WHEEL DISMOUNTED EASILY NOR COULD THE NEW WHEEL BE MOUNTED FROM THE TRUNK. ODDLY, ONE OF THEM, WHICH IS OWNED BY A LADY FRIEND, HAD THE ODDEST PROBLEM. MY BROTHER-IN-LAW WAS DRIVING IT ONE DAY. TURNS OUT THERE WAS A WHEEL SHIMMY GOING ON. HE STOPPED THE VEHICLE ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. WHEN HE CALLED ME HE INDICATED 3 LUG BOLTS WERE MISSING WHICH WE BOTH THOUGHT STRANGE. HE SUBSEQUENTLY COAXED THE CAR VERY SLOWLY HOME. THE DEALER CHARGED THE LADY FOR THE REPAIR AND REMOUNTING OF A NEW TIRE. I SUSPECT THAT SHE HAD A FLAT, GOT SOME HELP AND BECAUSE THE NEW WHEEL WAS NOT MOUNTED IN A TRUE FASHION BECAUSE THE CAR COULD NOT BE RAISED HIGH ENOUGH, SHE JUST HAD TO MAKE DO. THAT WAS DANGEROUS FOR THE LADY. AS IT TURNS OUT, MY WIFE ALSO HAS ONE OF THE JEEPS I MENTIONED, AND I HAVE INSTRUCTED HER TO JUST CALL AAA WHEN AND IF SHE GETS A FLAT, SO THE TIRE CAN BE DISMOUNTED AND REMOUNTED WITH THE NEW ONE SAFELY. HE WAS DRIVING IN THE LEFT LANE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR IN THE RAIN. HE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER REACHING THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. HE THEN STOPPED AT A SERVICE STATION BUT THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD TO TELL MY HUSBAND TO DRIVE WITH THE DEFROST ON TO KEEP THE ENGINE IDLE UP. I THEN MADE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT AND ASKED TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGED AT THE SAME TIME. THEY KEPT THE TRUCK OVERNIGHT AND SAID THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTS DID NOT REVEAL ANY PROBLEM AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE INCIDENT. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THEY DISCOVERED A "MILKY" SUBSTANCE WHEN CHANGING THE OIL AND PUT IN A NEW FILTER. THEY DID NOT SAY THAT THIS WAS THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME THAT IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN, I SHOULD BRING IT BACK. MY ISSUE IS THAT WAITING FOR A VEHICLE TO STALL AT HIGH SPEED ON A BUSY HIGHWAY IS A REAL SAFETY CONCERN. MY HUSBAND AND I ARE RELUCTANT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND ACTUALLY RENTED A CAR TO VISIT OUR SON WHO IS ALMOST 250 MILES AWAY AT COLLEGE. I HOPE YOU WILL CORRECT THE ENTRY AS IT IS IMPORTANT FOR OTHER OWNERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM TO HAVE THE ACTUAL FACTS.*JB

INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMED, GAUGES WENT TO ZERO AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. VEERED TO RIGHT AND APPLIED LIGHT BRAKE PRESSURE RESULTING IN A BRAKE LOCKUP AND FREEWAY SPIN. CAR CAME TO HALT FACING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART. PLACED IN NEUTRAL AND PUSHED OFF FREEWAY. APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES LATER TURNED IGNITION SWITCH AND VEHICLE TURNED ON 1ST SERVICE TRUE CAUSE OF CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REPORTED UNKNOWN. TRUE CAUSE OF DRIVEWAY STALL UNKNOWN. TWO CODES STORED IN MEMORY 01411 FUEL RATIONAL, P2302 IGNITION CIRCUIT. VEHICLE TEST DRIVEN 200 MILES WITH STARSCAN. TRUE CAUSE OF INCIDENT 3 REPORTED AS UNKNOWN TRUE CAUSE OF STORED CODES REPORTED UNKNOWN. WHEN CAR VELOCITY DECREASED APPLICATION OF BRAKES BROUGHT CAR TO HALT ON SIDE OF ROAD 3RD SERVICE UPON DIAGNOSTICS DEALERSHIP FOUND MULTIPLE CODES: P0700, P0562, B210, U0151, B211B, B1BA6, B223D, B210D. SERVICE TECH. CONTACTED STAR AND WAS ADVISED TO PERFORM BATTERY TEST AND TO INSPECT BULKHEAD AND IGNITION CONNECTORS. NO PROBLEMS WERE FOUND IN THESE AREAS. ASSUMPTION IS THAT THE PROBLEM LIES IN A MASSIVE ELECTRICAL FAILURE. RED AIR BAG LIGHT ON DASH COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY THEN STAYS ON. AIR PRESSURE LIGHT COMES ON AND TIRES ARE AT NORMAL PSI. SOME DAYS BOTH LIGHTS COME ON TOGETHER. I HAVE TAKEN JEEP IN FOUR TIMES FOR SAME PROBLEM IN 17 MONTHS AND ITS DOING IT AGAIN WITHIN 3 MONTHS OF LAST SERVICE. *JB

THE CONTACT WAS ON A 10 % DOWN HILL DECLINE AND THE VEHICLE NEVER SHIFTED INTO A LOWER GEAR, THE CONTACT HAD TO RIDE THE BRAKES DOWN THE MOUNTAIN. THE CONTACT DID TELL HERTZ ABOUT THE PROBLEM. *AK
