UPHOLSTERY FABRIC IS HIGHLY SUSCEPTIBLE TO STAINING!!! IT DOES NOT CLEAN WHEN SHAMPOOED. STAINS REMAIN & ACTUALLY BECOME WORSE WITH CLEANING. EVEN RAIN DROPS STAIN THE FABRIC. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!!! I CAN SEE WHY CHRYSLER INTRODUCED "YES" FABRIC IN 2007. I WISH I HAD IT. THE ONLY SOLUTION IS RE-UPHOLSTERY. I HAVE CONSIDERED HAVING LEATHER INSTALLED BUT DECIDED IT WAS TOO COSTLY. HAD I KNOWN THE UPHOLSTERY WOULD STAIN SO EASILY I WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT CLOTH INTERIOR!!!!!! *JB
VEHICLE HAD BIRD DROPPINGS ON HOOD. WASHED OFF SAME DAY AND ATE RIGHT THROUGH PAINT DOWN TO METAL. JEEP WILL NOT COVER REPAIRS. NOTICED THAT CLEAR COAT EITHER DOES NOT EXIST ON THIS VEHICLE OR IS VERY THIN. NOTICED OTHER SPOTS WHERE BIRD DROPPINGS HAVE LEFT MARKS ON PAINT AND CHIPS IN PAINT ALL OVER VEHICLE. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL VEHICLES AND NEVER HAVE SEEN PAINT THIS BAD. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED WITHOUT WARNING. IT WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000. IT TOOK 1 TO 3 MINUTES TO MOVE THE SHIFT GEARS WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS COLD. THE VEHICLE STALLED WHEN IT WAS HOT OR COLD. HOWEVER, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COLD IT STARTED IMMEDIATELY. ALSO, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND SHUT OFF WHILE ACCELERATING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER IT STALLED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL AFTER THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS REPLACED. *AK THE TRANSMISSION HAD A DELAY. THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE SUNROOF LEAKED WATER. UPDATED 03/19/07. *JB
2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE STOPS FOR NO REASON LEAVING NO CONTROL OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. HAVE SENT BACK TO JEEP DEALER TWICE TO TRY TO ALLEVIATE PROBLEM. *JB
I BOUGHT A NEW 2005 JEEP CHEROKEE AND BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS ONE YEAR AFTER I BOUGHT IT. I HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR NOT STARTING , BUT ITWAS NOT THE BATTERY. TOOK IT TO THE GALEANA DEALERSHIP TO GET IT FIXED 5 TIMES AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, AND EVENTUALLY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO EVEN THOUGH THEY KNEW THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED BECAUSE I VIDEOTAPED SEVERAL OF THE OCCURRENCES. THE VEHICLE LEFT ME STRANDED EVERYWHERE. THEN, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED , AND THE CAR ALMOST CAUGHT ON FIRE WITH ME AND MY TWO CHILDREN IN IT. WE HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AT 22,000 MILES. *AK
DURING THE LAST TIME THAT I HAVE USED MY 2005 JEEP CHEROKEE, THE ACCELERATOR GOT STUCK, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED FROM A SPEED OF ABOUT 55 TO 90 TO 100 BEFORE I COULD STOP THE VEHICLE THIS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES. *JB
THE STALLING PROBLEM WAS ORIGINALLY REPORTED TO THE DEALERS TECHNICIANS AT 9,007 MILES. IT OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY WHILE COASTING OR BRAKING. THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, INDICATING "[NO CODES] STORED; COULD NOT DUPLICATE CONDITION" ON THE REPAIR FORM, AND SENT IT HOME WITH ME. KNOWING THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO UNTIL A STALL COULD BE DELIBERATELY DEMONSTRATED, I CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT UNTIL SEPTEMBER, WHEN THE STALLING BECAME MORE FREQUENT THAN THE NORMAL EVERY-2-MONTH AVERAGE AND NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE UNEXPECTED LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. I AGAIN ASKED THEM TO TRACK DOWN THE PROBLEM AND REPAIR IT. THEY FINALLY DECIDED TO ATTACH THEIR CO-PILOT COMPUTER WHICH MONITORS THE JEEP'S SYSTEMS AND HAVE ME DRIVE IT FOR A WHILE. IF IT STALLED, I WAS TO PRESS A BUTTON TO CAPTURE THE PREVIOUS AND FUTURE 30 SECONDS OF VEHICLE ACTIVITY. ON TWO OCCASIONS WHILE THE CO-PILOT WAS ATTACHED, A STALL OCCURRED. I PRESSED THE CO-PILOT TRIGGER TO CAPTURE THE DATA BOTH TIMES. WHEN THEY GOT THE JEEP BACK, THEY SAID THERE WAS SOMETHING INDICATING THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING ON TWO OCCASIONS. CHRYSLER RECOMMENDED THEY REPLACE THE EGR VALVE AND THE PURGE SOLENOID, WHICH THEY DID. THIS MORNING IT STALLED AGAIN. I UPDATED CHRYSLER AND THE DEALER ABOUT THE INCIDENT. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT CHRYSLER'S ENGINEERS HAVE INSTRUCTED THEM TO PERFORM NO SERVICE - NO REPLACEMENTS AND NO TROUBLESHOOTING - ON MY JEEP UNTIL A MECHANIC CAN DEMONSTRATE ANOTHER ENGINE STALL. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING THREAD ON JEEPFORUM.COM. I SUBMITTED THIS THREAD'S INFORMATION TO THE DEALER TECH'S, BUT I CANNOT TELL HOW MUCH GOOD IT DID. MY JEEP STILL STALLS AND CHRYSLER STILL HAS NO FIX FOR IT. THIS THREAD CALLS OUT COMMANDERS AND GRAND CHEROKEES, FROM 2005 THROUGH 2008. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY SERIOUS AND WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM, AND IT HAS "RECALL" WRITTEN ALL OVER IT. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS ATTENTION AND IT NEEDS IT NOW. 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE - ~21,000 MILES ON VEHICLE. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/GAUGES WILL RANDOMLY ALL LIGHT UP AT ONCE, THEN GO OFF ONE AT A TIME AS I AM DRIVING ON THE ROAD. THE SPEEDOMETER, AT THE SAME TIME WILL GO TO 0 THEN WILL SEEM TO 'REBOOT' AND GO BACK TO THE CORRECT SPEED. AGAIN, ALL OF THIS WILL HAPPEN RANDOMLY AS I TRAVEL ON THE HIGHWAYS. I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE IN 3 TIMES TO THE WESTGATE CHRYSLER JEEP DEALERSHIP IN RALEIGH, NC, AND IT HAS STILL NOT BEEN CORRECTED!! ON THE FIRST TRIP, THEY JUST FLASHED THE COMPUTER AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. ON THE SECOND TRIP THERE, THE FLASHING HAPPENED TO THE TECHNICIAN SO THEY REPLACED THE JUNCTION BOX AND SAID THAT SHOULD DO IT...BUT THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. ON THE 3RD TRIP, THEY JUST HOOKED UP THE COMPUTER AND SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE. THEY CALLED THE CHRYSLER TECHNICAL SERVICE AND THEY TOLD THEM TO JUST WAIT UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN...THEN BRING IT IN?? IT HAPPENS AT RANDOM TIMES, SO IT'S DIFFICULT TO 'JUST BRING IT IN'. MY JEEP HAS BECOME UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT THIS POINT! WHEN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GOES BLANK WHILE I'M DRIVING, IT BECOMES A HAZARD TO ME AND MY FAMILY. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER, BUT I HAVE ONLY RECEIVED AN AUTOMATED REPLY. THEY ARE NOT HELPING ME WITH THIS SERIOUS ISSUE. I'VE SEARCHED THE INTERNET WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS, AND THE SOLUTIONS RANGE FROM BAD FUSES, TO CORROSION IN THE CONNECTORS, RELAYS, ETC. I DON'T WANT TO TAKE THIS IN TO WESTGATE AS THEY APPEAR USELESS AND DON'T WANT TO DO ANY DETECTIVE WORK. PLEASE HELP ME REMEDY THIS SERIOUS ELECTRICAL ISSUE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WITHOUT INCIDENT, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS CRACKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW AND THE WINDOW WAS REPLACED. ALSO WHILE TRAVELING 55 MPH, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHUT DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF. IT WAS RESTARTED AND WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ILLUMINATION OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FLICKERED AND FAILED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE SERVICE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED EACH TIME. ON TWO OF THOSE OCCASIONS, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT MUSHY, BUT BEGAN OPERATING AFTER THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUMPED SEVERAL TIMES. THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE ON THE LAST OCCASION WHILE TRAVELING 45 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE SERVICE DEALER THREE DIFFERENT TIMES FOR SERVICE, BUT THE PROBLEMS CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER SENT AN ENGINEER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE.
2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE VEHICLE IS A 6 CYLINDER WITH A NAG 1 TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT NEW IN NOV, 2005. IT HAS AROUND 17600 MILES ON IT. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SHUDDERING AT VARIOUS TIMES, WAS INCONSISTENT. USUALLY AROUND 1500 RPMS. EAGLE AUTO MALL, LOCAL JEEP DEALER STATED NOTHING WAS WRONG. COMING HOME FROM STORE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO WHINE AND THEN STOPPED SHIFTING. PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY ENGINE COMPARTMENT STARTED TO SMOKE BADLY, ALMOST WENT ON FIRE . TURNED VEHICLE OFF. OBSERVED TRANNY FLUID ALL OVER THE ENGINE AND ALOT OF TRANNY FLUID ON THE GROUND. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE EAGLE DEALER, WHO AFTER A WEEK IN THE SHOP SAID THERE WAS WATER IN THE TRANNY FLUID AND THAT THEY WERE GOING TO HAVE TO TAKE APART THE TRANSMISSION. CONTACTED CHRYSLER TOLD THEM THAT A VIN CHECK OF MY VEHICLE SHOWED THAT IT WAS NOT UNDER THE RECALL THEY HAD ISSUED FOR THIS MODEL, BUT THERE WAS A SAFETY PROBLEM AND THAT A NEW TRANSMISSION SHOULD BE PLACED IN THE VEHICLE. *NM
TRANSMISSION SURGES AND DOES NOT WANT TO CHANGE GEARS WHILE ACCELERATING. DANGEROUS ON HIGHWAY... CANNOT PICK UP SPEED JEEP AUTHORIZED DEALER REPLACED TORQUE CONVERTER... PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. IN SHOP AGAIN TODAY FOR REPAIR. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ENGINE INTERMITTENTLY REVVED AND LURCHED FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST DID NOT PRODUCE A FAILURE CODE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
ON 9/1/06 WHILE ON VACATION DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC ON CALIFORNIA FREEWAY, VEHICLE LOST BRAKES AND STEERING WHILE VEHICLE IN MOTION. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO SIDE OF FREEWAY. TURNED CAR OFF AND RESTARTED AND TOOK TO CLOSEST DEALERSHIP. THEY HOOKED UP TO COMPUTER AND FOUND 3 ERROR CODES THAT THEY DID NO RECOGNIZE. BECAUSE OF HOLIDAY WEEKEND NO ONE WAS AVAILABLE TO LOOK AT THE CAR UNTIL TUESDAY 9/5/06. THIS LEFT ME WITH EXTRA EXPENSE BECAUSE I HAD TO RENT A CAR FOR THE DURATION OF MY VACATION AND HAD TO STAY AN EXTRA DAY FOR CAR. DEALERSHIP CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY INSTRUCTED THEM TO REPROGRAM COMPUTER AND DRIVE AND RE-TEST. NO ERROR CODES REAPPEARED AND GAVE ME MY CAR BACK. WHILE DRIVING BACK HOME FROM CALIFORNIA ON 9/5/06 CAR ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE AT STOP LIGHT. AGAIN HAD TO TURN OFF TO GET RESTARTED. TOOK INTO LOCAL DEALERSHIP IN HOMETOWN NEXT DAY AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AFTER HAVING CAR FOR A DAY. AGAIN ON 9/18/06 WHILE DRIVING OUT OF PARKING STRUCTURE, CAR ENGINE AGAIN SHUT OFF. LUCKILY, I DID NOT HIT ANYONE OR ANYTHING. TAKING BACK TO DEALERSHIP AGAIN. *JB

I PURCHASED A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IN JANUARY 2005. ON AUGUST 25, 2006, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO NORMANDIN CHRYSLER JEEP BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON AND THE CAR WAS LURCHING, MAKING NOISE AND KEPT SLIDING INTO THIRD GEAR. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME AFTER THREE PLUS WEEKS AND THE FIRST TIME I DROVE IT, MY PASSENGER AND I WERE ALMOST INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE CAR DIED. THE CAR WAS IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT HAS BEEN FOR OVER TWO WEEKS AWAITING A "NEW" TRANSMISSION. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR A TOTAL OF 36 OF THE LAST 38 DAYS. THE CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER TOWING THE VEHICLE AND DRIVING IT 20 MILES AT 50 MPH, THERE WAS A INTENSE SMELL OF BURNING RUBBER SURROUNDING THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE SMELL WAS COMING FROM THE CENTER FRONT OF THE VEHICLE NEAR THE FIREWALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME ISSUE, BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED, WHO THE CONTACT STATED WAS VERY RUDE.*AK THE CONSUMER STATED THE OWNERS MANUAL WAS INCORRECT ON HOW TO TOW A VEHICLE. UPDATED 01/10/07. *JB
I OWN A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT HAS 2 SPECIFIC PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES WITH NO RESOLUTION. JEEP CLAIMS THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND/OR CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM TO FIX. NO ERROR CODES ETC HOWEVER IF SOMEONE WOULD JUST READ THE JEEP FORUMS THEY WILL SEE THIS IS A "NATIONWIDE" ISSUE THAT IS VERY DANGEROUS WITH HUNDREDS OF NEAR MISS ACCIDENTS. HER FIRST ISSUE WITH MY JEEP IS WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR SITTING IDLE WITH THE CAR IN DRIVE THE ENGINE JUST SHUTS OFF. OF THE 8 TO 10 TIMES THIS HAS HAPPEN, TWICE THE CAR DID NOT WANT TO START UP AGAIN. WE HAD TO GIVE THE CAR ABOUT 5 MINS AND THEN IT STARTED RIGHT UP. DEALER FOUND SOME "RANDOM" ERROR CODES THAT WE WERE TOLD HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ISSUE WE WERE HAVING. AT THE THIRD TIME WE TOO THE JEEP TO THE DEALER THEY CHANGED A SENOR AND REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION FILTER AND FLUID. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED AND ON THE FOURTH TRIP TO DEALERSHIP THEY UPDATED THE SOFTWARE PER JEEP IN DETROIT. STILL NOT FIXED AND THE DEALER SHIP IS TELLING ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. ISSUE CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. AFTER THE DEALER SHIP INSTALLED THE NEW SOFTWARE, THE SECOND ISSUE STARTED. THIS ISSUE IS THE MOST DANGEROUS AND WILL RESULT IN A LAWSUIT IF NOT FIXED. WHEN DRIVING AT REALLY ANY NORMAL SPEED THE CAR WILL ACT AS IF I THE DRIVER AM HITTING THE BRAKES REALLY HARD. NOT HARD ENOUGH TO LOCK THE WHEELS BUT HARD ENOUGH TO LEAVE A SEAT BELT REDNESS ON MY NECK FROM BEING SLUG FORWARD. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE RED BRAKE LIKE AND YELLOW ABS LIGHT COMES ON. THE ISSUE HAPPENS FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS AND THE CAR JUST REGROUPS AND KEEPS GOING. WE HAVE LOST COUNT OF THIS ISSUE BUY MY GUESS IS THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 15 TIMES. ON THE LAST 3-5 TIMES WHEN THE CAR LOCKS UP IT TURNS OFF THE RADIO WHEN IN THE PAST THIS DID NOT HAPPEN. ISSUE SEEMS TO BE ADDING MORE PROBLEMS AS TIME GOES ON. JEEP NEEDS TO READ THE FORUMS. *NM
MY WIFE HAD A FLAT TIRE THIS DATE AND WHEN THE TIRE SHOP SHE TOOK IT TO, PULLED THE TIRE FROM THE WHEEL AND NOTICED BUBBLES ON THE WALLS ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE. THEY TOLD HER THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE, BUT SHE PROBABLY CAUSED THE DEFECT BY DRAINING IT 15 MINUTES WITH SLIGHTLY LOW TIRE PRESSURE. TIRE PRESSURES ARE MONITORED CLOSELY AND CHECKED AT LEAST MONTHLY WITH VERY LITTLE VARIATIONS EVER DETECTED. *JB
JEEP ABOUT HAD THE ONE THE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON, I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE SEAT BUCKLE, A YEAR LATER LIGHT GOES ON,I TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACE THE BUCKLE AGAIN. 6 MONTHS LATER LIGHT GOES BACK ON THE WARRANTY HAD JUST PAST BUT THE DEALER FIXED IT AGAIN. 6 MONTHS LATER THE LIGHT GOES BACK ON AND I GO BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY WENT OUT OF BUSINESS, I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED THEY CHARGED ME $150.00 TO TELL ME THAT I HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE SEAT BELT HARNESS, I ALREADY NEW THAT. SO I JUST KEPT DIVING IT, AROUND 2011 THE LIGHTS AND ALL GAUGES STARTED TO GO OUT AS I WAS DRIVING NO GAUGES AT ALL NO BREAK LIGHT NO HEADLIGHTS, EVERYTHING JUST BLINKS FOR A FEW MIN, THAN BACK TO NORMAL, I WENT ON LINE TO SEE HOW BIG THE PROBLEM WAS AND THERE IS A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT COULD BE A LOT OF THINGS, I TOLD THEM IT WAS THE IGNITION, WHILE DRIVING IF I HOLD ON THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND MOVE IT AROUND ALL THE GAUGES AND LIGHTS START TO FLASH. I TOLD THAT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD COST ME TO LOOK INTO IT AND TRY TO FIX IT, IN KNOW ITS THE IGNITION ONE DAY WHILE I AM DRIVING AT NIGHT MY LIGHTS ARE GOING TO TURN OFF OR EVEN THE ENGINE AND GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. THERE IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE 2005 JEEPS AND CHRYSLER DOES NOT WANT TO DO A RECALL. *TR

AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK OF MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 5.7 LITER HEMI I ACCELERATED ONTO THE INTERSTATE AND THE CAR BEGAN TO DECELERATE AND ALL THE INFORMATION LIGHTS CAME ON AND BEGAN TO FLICKER ON AND OFF AS WELL AS THE HEADLIGHTS. THE CONSUMER STATED THREE MONTHS LATER HE WAS INVOLVED IN A SIMILAR INCIDENT AT A CARWASH IN MINNEAPOLIS, MN. I HAVE A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO ON 2 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS MY ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE IT IS REVVING AT FULL THROTTLE BUT I HAVE NO POWER. THE RPM DOES NOT REFLECT THIS. LOCAL CARWASH EMPLOYEE ENTERED INTO A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHEN IGNITION WAS TURNED ON, THE VEHICLE REDLINED AND ACCELERATED OFF OF CONVEYOR. EMPLOYEE HIT THE BREAK WITH NO RESPONSE. IT APPEARS THERE IS INSUFFICIENT SPACE BETWEEN THE ACCELERATOR AND THE BRAKE PEDAL. I WEAR A SIZE 12 SHOE AND I MUST MAKE A VERY CONSCIOUS EFFORT TO GET MY FOOT FURTHER TO THE LEFT THAT IS NORMAL. I ALSO HAVE DRIVEN MY 2004 DODGE RAM PICK UP OVER TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND MILES FROM JUNE 2004 TO OCT 2005 COMMERCIALLY AND NEVER HAD SUCH AN EXPERIENCE. THE CONTACT NOTICED A LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON A HIGHWAY. INTERMITTENTLY, THE TRANSMISSION MADE NOISE WHEN SHIFTED TO SECOND GEAR. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 20 TIMES, HOWEVER NO ERROR CODES IDENTIFIED THE DEFECT. IN ONE OF THE INCIDENTS, THE YELLOW MALFUNCTION LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE DEALERSHIP IDENTIFIED THE DEFECT AS THE COMPUTER CONTROL MODULE AND THE DRIVER SHAFT, BOTH WERE REPLACED, HOWEVER THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO RECOMMENDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP. *AK THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DOWNSHIFTING WHEN GOING UP HILLS AND IT WOULD GET STUCK IN SECOND OR THIRD GEAR. THE A/C AND BLOWER MOTOR WERE INOPERATIVE, THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE CONSUMERS CONCERN. THE KEY BECAME STUCK IN THE IGNITION. ALL THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WERE FLASHING, THE CD PLAYER WAS BROKE. THE BRAKES AND ROTORS VIBRATED. THE STARTER WAS REPLACED. THE DRIVESHAFT AND HEATER WERE REPLACED. THE SEATS WOULD NOT MOVE BACK. THE SEAT BELTS DID NOT RETRACT AS THEY SHOULD. I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO, WITHIN WEEKS I STARTED TO NOTICE THE UPHOLSTERY WAS NOT TREATED, IT WOULD STAIN WITH THE SLIGHTEST BIT OF CONDENSATION OR RAIN. AFTER ABOUT 8-12 MONTHS I STARTED TO FEEL IT GETTING SLUGGISH WHEN ACCELERATED BUT THE PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT. BROUGHT IT IN TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID NO PROBLEM WAS DETECTED. THIS WOULD HAPPEN IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, ON RAMPS TO THE HIGWAY, GREEN LIGHTS ETC.. I ALMOST GOT CREAMED BY AN 18 WHEELER. THE VEHICLE WOULD BUCK AND SPUTTER. IF I KEPT MY FOOT ON THE GAS IT WOULD EVENTUALLY CLUNK INTO GEAR.IT HAD BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 6 TIMES. AT ONE POINT THEY REPLACED THEY TRANSMISSION MODULE..THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. IT STARTED TO GET TIRESOME, DEALERSHIP WAS CONDENSCENDING CLAIMING "THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM." NO LUCK WITH GM'S ,SERV MGRS, AND THE CHRYSLER CORP. ON MORE THAN 10 OCCASIONS SINCE I HAVE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE I HAVE INADVERTENTLY SHUT OF THE ENGINE BY HITTING THE KEY WITH MY KNEE WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I BELIEVE THIS IS DUE TO THE PLACEMENT OF THE IGNITION DIRECTLY ABOVE THE DRIVER'S KNEE. TO DATE I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND GET IT RESTARTED BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED. I SHUT THE CAR OFF, PULLED OUT THE MANUAL, READ I COULD EXPERIENCE LOSS OF POWER, NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR, REPORT IMMEDIATELY TO BE REPAIRED. I CALLED THE 24 TOWING NUMBER, HAD THE JEEP TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN I RECEIVED CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP ON APRIL 10, I WAS TOLD THIS ISSUE WAS RELATED TO THE RECALL PROBLEM THAT I HAD REPAIRED IN FEBRUARY. AFTER FURTHER CONVERSATION ON TUESDAY WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP I WAS GIVEN EXPLANATION THAT WHEN I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE RECALL IN FEBRUARY 2006, THERE WAS ALREADY DAMAGE DONE TO THE VEHICLE, THEY HAD TO FLUSH THE ENGINE. THE POWER OUTAGE I EXPERIENCED ON THE INTERSTATE WAS RELATED TO THE RECALL, AND IN ADDITION, THEY HAD TO FLUSH MY ENGINE AGAIN AND REPLACE A VALVE IN THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN I EXPRESSED THAT I WASN'T COMFORTABLE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHICH SUCH SAFETY ISSUES, THE SERVICE MAN ALSO AGREED IT WAS A SAFETY FACTOR. I WAS ON THE PHONE WITH CHRYSLER YESTERDAY, AND WAS TOLD THAT ONCE THIS PROBLEM OCCURS A 3RD TIME, I CAN THEN GO TO ARBITRATION, AND TAKE THE NEXT STEP, BUT THAT STEP WASN'T CLEAR. AFTER EXPRESSING MY DESIRE TO GET OUT OF MY LEASE BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY CONCERNS, I WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T DO THAT. THE 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO IS MY 3RD JEEP I HAVE DRIVEN, NO PRIOR VEHICLE HAS HAD PROBLEMS. AT THIS POINT, I AM SUPPOSED TO GO AND PICK UP MY VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING IT, IN THE HOPES THE NEXT TIME MY POWER SHUTS DOWN, I AM ALIVE TO TELL ABOUT IT. AND WHEN THAT DAY COMES, CHRYSLER CAN THEN TAKE THE NEXT STEP IN PURSUING FURTHER ACTION. *NM
DURING STOP-AND-GO DRIVING AS WELL AS DRIVING THAT INCLUDES ACCELERATING AND SLOWING REPEATEDLY, MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE W/4.7L V8 STALLS OUT. THIS HAS RESULTED 2 INSTANCES OF ME ALMOST HITTING AN ELECTRICAL BOX IN FROM OF MY WORK WHILE TRYING TO PULL INTO THE DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE STALLS AND I LOSE POWER STEERING, AND 2 INSTANCES OF ALMOST BEING HIT FROM BEHIND AS A LARGE TRUCKS APPROACH FROM BEHIND AND I TRY TO ACCELERATE AWAY FROM A STOP LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE STALLS. *JB
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD TO GO PLAY GOLF WHEN I NOTICED AN ODD SOUND FROM THE REAR END OF MY 2005 GRAND LIMITED W/HEMI. ON THE WAY HOME I NOTICED THE SOUND WAS IN ALL GEARS AND ALL SPEEDS BUT MUCH MORE NOTABLE AT LOW SPEEDS. I DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND TOOK A MECHANIC FOR A RIDE AND HE THOUGHT THE NOISE WAS A BAD PINION BEARING. AFTER CLOSER INSPECTION THEY DETERMINED THE WHOLE REAR END OF THE CAR NEEDED TO BE REBUILD. 15,000 MILES AND I NEED A NEW REAR END? FOR A $42,000 SUV THIS SURE IS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. SO NOW I AM OUT OF MY CAR FOR A WEEK TO TWO WEEKS WHILE THEY GET THE PARTS AND REBUILD. SO NOW I HAVE A NEW "REBUILT" SUV FOR THE SAME PAYMENTS...DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT AT 15,000 MILES. RKM. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY LURCHED FORWARD WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION; HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. ON 04/13/2006 THE CONTACT COULD NOT STOP AT A RED LIGHT WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED IN APRIL 2006, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE SERVICE DEALER DETERMINED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT RUNS THE TRANSMISSION WAS THE PROBLEM. THE COMPUTER ISSUE ALLOWED THE TRANSMISSION TO LEAK IMPROPERLY. ALSO, IN OCTOBER 2006 THE VEHICLE STALLED AT 30 MPH DUE TO ALL THE ELECTRIC IN THE VEHICLE FAILING.
