I BOUGHT THE JEEP CHEROKEE LAREDO IN JUNE 2005 AND I HAVE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL EVENTS WITH THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING SYSTEM AND GAUGES. THE PANEL GOES ON AND OFF UNTIL THE ENGINE AND / OR AIR CONDITIONS SHUT OFF. AT ONE POINT THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT HAS BEEN VERY STRESSFUL HAVING THIS CONDITION OCCURRING WHILE DRIVING OR AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. BOTH DEALER AND CHRYSLER HAVE IMPROVISED SOME REPAIRS (6 TIMES) THAT HAD NOT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. I HAVE DECIDED TO FILE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST THE DEALER AND CHRYSLER AFTER SEEING IN THE NHTSA COMPLAINT DATABASE THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD AND SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. IF YOU WANT TO JOIN THE EFFORT TO PURSUE ACTIONS USING THE "LEMON" OR ANY APPLICABLE LAW REQUEST A COMPLAINT RESEARCH OF THIS COMPLAINT RECORD TO HAVE ACCESS TO MY PHONE AND E-MAIL ADDRESS. 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE PURCHASED USED WITH FULL WARRANTY. 30,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION GOES. TOOK TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS AND WAS TREATED LIKE DIRT. THEY SAY THEY REBUILT THE TRANSMISSION BUT PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. CLANKING, BANGING, AND NOT SHIFTING AT ALL APPARENTLY THIS IS NORMAL FOR CHRYSLER VEHICLES BECAUSE THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. SURPRISE NOW THAT THE WARRANTY IS UP I WONDER IF THEY'LL FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG. DISGUSTED WITH JEEP, CHRYSLER WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER!!!*JB
THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ( 2005 ) WITH THE 4.7 V8 WILL STALL INTERMITTANTLY. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO LOSE ALL POWER BRAKES ETC WHEN STOPPING. I HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN AND AM SCARED TO HAVE THEM IN THE VEHICLE. ACCIDENT ALMOST CAUSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *TR
THE 2005 JEEP CHEROKEE HAS SEVERE PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE TRANSMISSION. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED WITH 10,000 MILES ON. I HAD 5 TRANSMISSION RELATED PROBLEMS WITHIN 12 MONTHS. TWO OF THESE PROBLEMS LEFT THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE; ONE OF WHICH THE VEHICLE ALMOST CAUGHT ON FIRE. THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AND I WAS STILL NOT HAPPY. I TRADED IN FOR A 2007 BUICK LUCERNE - WHICH HAS BEEN A GREAT CAR. NO MORE CHRYSLER PRODUCTS FOR ME! *TR
MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE(4.7) WITH 58,000 MILES OVERHEATED AND STALLED AS I WAS PULLING A SMALL CARGO TRAILER. THE JEEP IS EQUIPPED WITH A TRANSMISSION COOLER AND UP UNTIL THIS INCIDENT I'VE HAD NO OVERHEATING PROBLEMS. WHEN I POPPED THE HOOD THERE WAS COOLANT EVERY WHERE. THE JEEP WAS TOWED TO SERVICE GARAGE AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A FAILED WATER PUMP. THE DAY I PICKED UP MY "FIXED" JEEP I NOTICED A STRANGE SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE ... I TOOK THE JEEP BACK TO MY SERVICE GARAGE AND THEY TOLD ME MY A/C COMPRESSOR WAS FAILING AND UPON CHECKING WITH THE LOCAL PARTS SUPPLIER, MY MECHANIC TOLD ME HE COULD NOT BUY A REPLACEMENT COMPRESSOR ... I MUST GO TO A JEEP DEALER. I DID AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A NATIONAL BACK ORDER AND I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT AT LEAST 3 WEEKS FOR A REPLACEMENT. KEEP IN MIND THE ENGINE HAS ONE BELT, SO AT ANY TIME THE COMPRESSOR COULD FREEZE UP AND I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ONCE THE BELT BROKE. I DID A LOT OF PHONE CALLING AND FOUND A COMPRESSOR IN ILLINOIS .. IT WAS DELIVERED AND INSTALLED FOR $550.00. SO, WITHIN A WEEK I SPENT OVER $900.00 FOR REPAIRS. THE JEEP WAS A DEALER DEMO, SO I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH I BOUGHT THE JEEP WITH LESS THAN 1,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
TURNING LEFT TO ENTER MAJOR HIGHWAY AND THE ENGINE STALLS WITH LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. *TR
I HAVE TO BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN BRAKING AS THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TOO FAR DOWN AND IS TOO CLOSE TO THE ACCELERATOR AND IT IS VERY EASY TO PUSH ON THE ACCELERATOR WHILE BRAKING. I HAVE NEARLY RAN INTO OTHER VEHICLES OR EVEN PEOPLE IN A CROSSWALK WHILE PUSHING ON THE BRAKE. DEALER SAYS THERE ARE NO TSB'S OR ANY INTERNAL INFORMATION REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. BECAUSE I AM AWARE OFTHE PROBLEM I AM VERY CAREFUL, BUT THERE ARE TIMES WHEN YOU JUST PUSH ON THE BRAKE AND MY FOOT IS ALSO HITTING THE ACCELERATOR. *TR
RE: 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED - INTERIOR DOOR PANELS (WHERE DOOR HANDLE IS ATTACHED) ARE CRACKING AND FALLING AWAY RESULTING IN THE DOOR HANDLES NO LONGER BEING ATTACHED TO THE DOOR. THIS REQUIRES, AT TIMES, THE DOOR TO BE OPENED FROM OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. CHRYSLER WILL NOT REPLACE AS THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS $700 + LABOR (PER DOOR) TO REPAIR SOMETHING THAT IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING/MATERIAL DEFECT AND SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. I LEASED A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FROM A LOCAL DEALERSHIP IN WILMINGTON, DE. I RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM WITH THE REAR SEATS AND THEIR ABILITY, OR LACK THEREOF, TO ACCOMMODATE A CHILD'S CAR SEAT. AS MY DAUGHTER CONTINUES TO GROW WE HAVE CHANGED HER CAR SEAT TO THE FORWARD FACING POSITION AND IT IS CURRENTLY LOCATED IN THE CENTER OF THE BACK SEAT. AS SHE CONTINUES TO GROW IT IS BECOMING DIFFICULT TO PLACE HER IN THE CHILD CAR SEAT LOCATED IN THE CENTER OF THE BACK SEAT. THUS, WE ATTEMPTED, UNSUCCESSFULLY, TO MOVE HER CAR SEAT FROM THE CENTER POSITION TO THE RIGHT REAR SEAT POSITION. HOWEVER, DUE TO THE SHAPE OF THE VEHICLES SEAT AND INABILITY TO REMOVE THE HEAD REST, WE WERE UNABLE TO SAFELY SECURE HER CAR SEAT IN THE RIGHT REAR SEAT POSITION. WE HAVE SINCE TRIED TO INSTALL TWO OTHER CHILD SEATS AND NEITHER WORKED. THEREAFTER, WE MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE SOMEONE FROM CHRISTIANA HOSPITAL WHO IS CERTIFIED BY THE NHTSA INSTALL THE SEAT AND SHE TOO WAS UNABLE TO DO SO AS A RESULT OF THE VEHICLE'S SEAT DESIGN AND HEADREST. WE HAVE RAISED THIS ISSUE WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND DAIMLER CHRYSLER BUT THEY SIMPLY TELL US TO CONSULT OUR OWNER'S MANUAL AND SEATCHECK.ORG. HOWEVER, I HAVE READ THE OWNER'S MANUAL SEVERAL TIMES AND IT STATES THAT A CHILD'S SEAT CAN BE INSTALLED IN ANY OF THE REAR SEAT POSITIONS. MOREOVER, THE REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE HOSPITAL THAT ATTEMPTED TO INSTALL THE SEAT IS ONE OF THE INDIVIDUALS YOU ARE DIRECTED TO FROM THE WWW.SEATCHECK.ORG WEBSITE. THUS, I HAVE NO WHERE ELSE TO TURN SO I THOUGHT THE MOST PRUDENT THING TO DO WOULD BE FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES LOST POWER FOR APPROXIMATELY THIRTY SECONDS. ALL OF THE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART AND WAS TOWED. CURRENTLY, THE VEHICLE STILL FAILS TO RESTART AND THE DEALER IS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 55,000.
WHILE TRYING TO STOP, WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ENGINE STARTED RACING AND WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP, I ENDED UP HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, 2 CAR PASSENGERS WENT TO THE HOSPITAL WITH MINOR INJURIES. CONTACTED JEEP AND CAR WAS CHECKED BY FACTORY EXPERT AT LOCAL DEALER , NOTHING DEFECTIVE WAS FOUND WITH BRAKES . THIS HAS HAPPENED 2 TIMES BEFORE THIS ACCIDENT. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO STOP. ALSO I HAD TO REPLACE ALL 4 ROTORS WITH LESS THAN 18,000 MILES, COMPLAINED TO JEEP AND WAS TOLD THAT ROTORS ARE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ITEM AND HOW LONG THEY LAST DEPENDS ON YOUR DRIVING HABITS. I JUST HEARD ON TV THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR BRAKE FAILURE, CONTACTED JEEP AND WAS TOLD NO, THERE IS NO RECALL AT THIS TIME. IN ADDITION, THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WOULD NOT FUNCTION WHICH INCLUDED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND TEMPERATURE GAUGES. THE FAILURES OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD CONDUCT A RESEARCH REGARDING THE ELECTRICAL FAILURE AND FOLLOW UP WITH THE CONTACT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN RESPONSIVE TO HIM CONCERNING THE SAFETY DEFECTS WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.

I PURCHASED A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED W/ A 4.7L V8 ENGINE IN EARLY 2005 FROM HUNTER CHRYSLER IN CHARLOTTE, NC , NOW OWNED BY METROLINA CHRYSLER, SOUTH BLVD, CHARLOTTE,NC. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS BRAND NEW IT STALLED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS - SOMETIMES WHEN I WAS AT A STOP, AND OTHER TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS AT RATED SPEEDS! I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AT LEAST 5-6 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND THEY HAVE FINALLY ADMITTED THAT CHRYSLER WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS ON THIS ENGINE, BUT NO ONE COULD OFFER A SOLUTION. I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL CHRYSLER REPRESENTATIVES, WHO WERE ALWAYS VERY COURTEOUS, BUT NO ONE HAS OFFERED A SOLUTION. THE LAST CHRSYLER REPRESENTATIVE SAID THE ONLY THING HE COULD DO WAS TO RECOMMEND TO ME TO TRADE THE VEHICLE IN. WHEN I EXPLAINED THAT I WOULD TAKE A LOSS ON THE TRADE-IN VALUE , LESS THAN TWO YEARS OLD BUT 48000 MILES HE SUGGESTED THAT A CHRYSLER DISTRICT MANAGER WOULD BE IN CONTACT AND COULD MAYBE HELP SOFTEN THE FINANCIAL BLOW. IT HAS BEEN TWO WEEKS AND I HAVE HEARD NOTHING. MEANWHILE THE VEHICLE KEPT STALLING AND I WAS AFRAID THAT I WILL GET INTO AN ACCIDENT AND GET HURT OR WORSE. MY WIFE WILL NO LONGER DRIVE THE VEHICLE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS FLICKERED ON HER VEHICLE, AND WOULD ALSO TURN OFF AND NOT BACK ON. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS WOULD ALSO FLICKER. ON APPROXIMATELY 6-8 OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE COMPUTER SYSTEM WAS REPLACED AND THE STARTING FAILURE WAS RESOLVED; HOWEVER, THE HEADLIGHTS STILL FLICKERED APPROXIMATELY 90% OF THE TIME THEY WERE ACTIVATED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW ON 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ON FIRST OCCASION, MAY 2007 CAME OUT OF POWER WINDOW TRACK, WEDGED BETWEEN MIRROR AND DOOR FRAME AND THE PRESSURE RESULTED IN SPIDER CRACKED THROUGHOUT WINDOW. THIS IS A HAZARD DUE TO POTENTIAL WINDOW EXPLODING ONTO DRIVER WHILE IN TRANSIT. ALSO INABILITY TO CLOSE WINDOW DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER COULD RESULT IN TRAFFIC CRASH. INITIAL REPAIR RESULTED IN WINDOW MOTOR ALSO NEEDING TO BE REPLACED, MOTOR WARRANTED BY CHRYSLER, BUT LABOR WAS CHARGE TO CUSTOMER. SECOND OCCASION SEPTEMBER 16,2007, SAME DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WINDOW CAME OUT OF POWER WINDOW TRACK AND WEDGED BETWEEN MIRROR AND DOOR FRAME. THIS TIME WINDOW DID NOT CRACK, HOWEVER, CHRYSLER DEALER WOULD NOT COVER UNDER WARRANTY, CHARGING CUSTOMER. STORY CHRYSLER JEEP, ADVISED WINDOW TRACK PARTS TO REPAIR THE MOLDING WAS BACK ORDERED FOR 3 WEEKS. DEALERSHIP GLUED OLD TRACK MOLDING INTO PLACE SO IT WOULD NOT SLIP OUT OF PLACE CAUSING THIS POWER WINDOW ISSUE. ( VEHICLE HAS 51,031 MILES ) ADDITIONALLY, AC/ HEAT CONTROL BLOWER RESISTOR AND WIRING MELTED ON PLUG IN BEHIND GLOVE COMPARTMENT OF VEHICLE. THIS RESULTED IN BLOWER MOTOR ONLY WORKING ON HIGH. MAY BE A FIRE HAZARD WITH THIS VEHICLE.... AGAIN DEALER WOULD NOT WARRANTY WORK DUE TO 51,031 MILES ON VEHICLE THIS 2.5 YEARS OLD VEHICLE HAS SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUES. *JB
2005 GRAND JEEP CHEROKEE LAREDO STALLS ON TURNS. I LOSE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. IT HAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000 MILES AND HAS A V8. IT HAS STALLED A FEW TIMES A COUPLE MONTHS BACK AND I HAD TAKEN MY JEEP TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. WHEN IT STALLED A FEW DAYS AGO I ALMOST HIT A BUILDING. IT STALLS WHEN I AM BRAKING AND MAKING A TURN. EACH TIME I HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN A SERIES ACCIDENT. IT IS VERY SCARY AND HAPPENS RANDOMLY. I AM CALLING THE DEALERSHIP ONCE AGAIN. CAR ACCELERATED RAPIDLY ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITHOUT TOUCHING ACCELERATOR. DESPITE PRESSING HARD ON BRAKE PEDAL, CAR ENGINE SPED UP AND SPUN TWO WHEELS MAKING BLACK TIRE MARKS ON PAVEMENT. NOW AT DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. *TR
SINCE 4/24/07, MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WILL INTERMITTENTLY FAIL TO START. THIS TYPICALLY HAS HAPPENED AFTER DRIVING IT THROUGHOUT THE DAY WITHOUT INCIDENT. (ONLY ONCE DID IT HAPPEN EARLY IN THE MORNING AFTER SITTING ALL NIGHT.) FOR THE FIRST TWO FAILURES, JUMPING THE BATTERY WAS SUCCESSFUL. THE THIRD INCIDENT, WHERE THE JUMP DIDN'T WORK, LED TO THE BATTERY BEING REPLACED, ALTHOUGH THE OLD BATTERY WAS NEVER DIAGNOSED AS FAULTY. WHEN THE CAR FAILED TO START WITH THE NEW BATTERY,THE KEYS WERE RE-CODED BY A JEEP DEALER. IT THEN FAILED TO START WITH THE NEWLY CODED KEYS. THE IGNITION WAS ELIMINATED AS A PROBLEM, AND THE STARTER WAS REPLACED (WITH AN AFTER-MARKET PRODUCT). WHEN THE CAR FAILED TO START AGAIN, THE STARTER WAS REPLACED A SECOND TIME (WITH A CHRYSLER PART) AND THE IGNITION ONCE AGAIN WAS DIAGNOSED AS WORKING. AFTER THE NEXT FAILURE TO START, A TEMPERATURE SENSOR IN THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. WHEN THE CAR AGAIN FAILED TO START, I WAS TOLD THE NEWLY REPLACED TEMPERATURE SENSOR WAS FAULTY, IT WAS BEING REPLACED, AND THE CAR WOULD BE READY THE NEXT DAY. NOW, THREE DAYS AFTER BEING TOLD THE CAR WOULD BE READY,I'M TOLD THAT NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, ALTHOUGH THE DIAGNOSTICS NOW INDICATE THERE IS A PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD BY THE CURRENT JEEP DEALER SERVICING IT THAT NO ONE COULD BE CONSULTED AT CHRYSLER UNTIL THE PROBLEM COULD BE REPLICATED. (ALTHOUGH IT IS A TIMELY PROCESS, THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPLICATED WHILE IN REPAIR.) IT IS NOW AUGUST 3, 2007, AND FOR THE LAST 102 DAYS MY GRAND CHEROKEE HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF REPAIR FOR WEEKS AT A TIME. WHEN I HAVE HAD ACCESS TO IT, I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE IT WITH ANY CONFIDENCE. PURCHASED A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ON APRIL 19, 2007 DEALER ADVERTISED A 7YR./70,000 POWERTRAIN WARRANTY ON THE WINDOW STICKER, VEHICLE HAD CURRENT MILEAGE OF 52,794 DURING TEST DRIVE HEARD CLICKING SOUND FROM STEERING WHEEL THOUGHT IT WAS NORMAL WHEN YOU SIGNAL. THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN RANDOMLY TILL THIS DATE. OCT.11,2007 TOOK VEHICLE TO JEEP DEALERSHIP FOR AIR CONDITIONING PROBLEMS, WOULD HEAR GROWLING SOUND, SHUT OFF, AND ONLY RUN ON HIGH. PAID DIAGNOSTIC FEE 74.90. COULD NOT AFFORD TO PAY FOR REPAIR WHICH WAS AN EXTRA $183 OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS WOULD NOTICE RANDOM SHUDDER OR ROUGH STARTS WHILE IDLING AND DRIVING, HEARD WEIRD WINDING SOUND AND VEHICLE WOULD STALL. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND TOOK TO AUTOZONE, GIVEN TRANSMISSION CODES ON 5/16/2008 TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND REQUESTED DIAGNOSTIC SERVICE BECAUSE ENGINE LIGHT ON AND HAVING SOME KIND OF TRANSMISSION PROBLEM ACCORDING TO AUTOZONE CODES,AND REQUESTED RECALL WORK DONE, WAS TOLD WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY $95. WE INFORMED THEM WE HAVE A WARRANTY AND SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY THE FEE ACCORDING TO CHRYSLER CUST. SERVICE. THEY INSISTED. TOLD THEM JUST DO RECALL WORK WE COULD NOT AFFORD FEE. WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WE BOUGHT THE JEEP FROM AND THEY SAY WE DO HAVE THE CHRYSLER WARRANTY. AFTER THEY TALKED TO EACH OTHER DEALER WAS INFORMED ABOUT CHRYSLER'S WARRANTY POLICY AND ACKNOWLEDGES TELLING US ABOUT WARRANTY BUT HAS YET TO OFFER REPAIR SERVICE OR ANY SOLUTION. *TR

I BOUGHT A NEW 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO & AT 19,600 MILES I HAD TO CHANGE THE FRONT BRAKES. SINCE CHANGING FROM THE OEM PADS THAT ARE A WHOPPING $175 FROM THE DEALER, I INSTEAD PURCHASED THE MOPAR SERVICE PADS FOR ABOUT $60. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS EVER SINCE. THE EARS ON THE PADS SEEM TO MAKE A CLICKING SOUND IN THE CHANNELS THEY RIDE IN UPON BRAKING AFTER A WEEK OR 2. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER SUPERIOR IN UNIONTOWN, PA & THEY SAID IT WAS BECAUSE I DIDN'T GREASE THEM CORRECTLY. THEY CLEANED & GREASED THEM & THE SOUND STOPPED ONLY FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS & THEN RETURNED. I HAVE SINCE HAD TO COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLE THE CALIPERS & PADS TWICE TO CLEAN & GREASE THEM. EVERY WEEK OR 2 THEY START MAKING THE NOISE AGAIN. NOW MY ROTORS ARE WARPED & WARRANTY IS ONLY GOOD FOR 12,000 MILES ON THE ROTORS. THIS MUST BE A KNOWN PROBLEM TO JEEP. EXITING CAR WASH JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2005 RUNNING AND IN NEUTRAL WAS PUT INTO DRIVE AND IT ACCELERATED OUT OF THE WASH WITH NO BRAKES , WENT THROUGH 2 PARKING LOTS AND INTO PARK AND PULLED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO COME TO A STOP. *JB
OIL CHANGED ROUTINELY AROUND 3000 MILES. COLD MORNING -3 FAHRENHEIT. LET CAR WARM UP FOR 5-10 MINUTES. DROVE 5 MILES TO WORK. WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT ON THE WAY TO WORK I COULD SMELL HOT OIL. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. AFTER I PARKED IN THE CAR I NOTICED A LARGE AMOUNT OF SMOKE COMING FROM MY HOOD. I IMMEDIATELY POPPED THE HOOD TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON. THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 3 INCH TALL FLAMES ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD FOR ABOUT 6 INCHES ALONG THE MANIFOLD. SINCE THE ENGINE WAS OFF THE FLAMES DIED OUT AND DID NOT IGNITE THE CAR. THE VALVE COVER GASKET HAD FAILED AND WAS LEAKING OIL OUT ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. DEALER THOUGHT THE PCV VALVE MIGHT HAVE HAD MOISTURE IN IT AND FROZE. THIS CAUSED EXCESS PRESSURE TO BUILD AND POPPED THE VALVE COVER GASKET THE WEAKEST POINT. DEALER REPLACED VALVE COVER, VALVE COVER GASKET, AND PCV VALVE. FAILURE AGAIN: EXACTLY 2 WEEKS AFTER THE FIRST FAILURE. SAME SCENARIO, IT WAS 3 DEGREES THIS TIME AND I LET THE CAR WARM UP FOR LESS THAN A MINUTE. THIS TIME THOUGH THERE WAS NO FIRE. DEALER TORE DEEPER INTO THE ENGINE AND FOUND THE OIL HAD SLUDGED UP. I HAD JUST CHANGED MY OIL A MONTH AGO AND 1000 MILES PREVIOUS. THE SLUDGE CAUSED MOISTURE TO BE TRAPPED IN THE PCV VALVE AND FREEZE. THE SLUDGE ALSO WAS FOUND IN EVERY COMPONENT THE OIL LUBRICATES. WHEN I ASKED THE DEALER WHAT I CAN DO TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN THEY TOLD ME TO CHANGE MY OIL AS RECOMMENDED. I ALREADY DO THAT. THEY SUGGESTED THAT SINCE I FIRST SAW THIS FAILURE AT 35000 MILES, I SHOULD HAVE MY ENGINE TORN APART EVERY 35000 MILES TO HAVE THE SLUDGE REMOVED. THEY TOLD ME THEY HAVE SEEN THE SLUDGING PROBLEM BEFORE AND CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF IT. CHRYSLER WILL NOT COVER THE SLUDGE CLEAN UP ONCE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AT 36000 MILES.
I HAD A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED WITH APPROXIMATELY 24,000 MILES ON IT. IN DECEMBER 2006 IT DOWN SHIFTED ITSELF INTO LOW GEAR WHILE DOING A FORWARD SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER WHO AFTER KEEPING IT FOR THE DAY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. ON FEBRUARY 9, 2007 WITH APPROXIMATELY 27,500 MILES ON THE SAME VEHICLE IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN ONLY THIS TIME AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 20 TO 25 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS BASICALLY UNCONTROLLABLE. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD ME ONCE AGAIN THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND, IN WRITING, TOLD ME TO CHANGE MY DRIVING HABITS. THEY ASSUMED I WAS DOWN SHIFTING THE CAR BY MISTAKE. I HAD SO LITTLE CONFIDENCE IN THE VEHICLE THAT I TRADED IT IN ON A NEW CAR. IF THIS SHOULD HAPPEN AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND THE VEHICLE SLIPS SIDEWAYS IT WILL ROLL OVER. *JB

THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE RAN FINE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. THE CONTACT STATED IF SHE DROVE OVER 30 MPH THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AND FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS GOING TO FALL APART. ON 1/31/07, THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DAIMLER CHRYSLER DEALER BECAUSE SHE DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER HAS NOT YET LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE. WHEN DRIVING IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD WHICH IS A 25 MPH ZONE I APPLIED BRAKES LIGHTLY AFTER JUST COMING OUT OF A TURN. AT THIS TIME I FELT A LARGE POP AND I HAD LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF MY STEERING. I IMMEDIATELY STRUCK A PARKED CAR THAT WAS SITTING IN THE ROAD. A COUPLE HOURS AFTER MY TRUCK WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP WHERE A CLAIM WAS PROCESSED AND SENT IN. TWO WEEKS FOLLOWING AN ADJUSTER CAME AND LOOKED AT IT IMMEDIATELY DENYING MY CLAIM. I GOT A LETTER IN THE MAIL SAYING IT WAS NOT A FAULTY PART AND IT WAS NOT CHRYSLERS RESPONSIBILITY. THE MANAGER AT THIS CHRYSLER DEALER STATED THAT HE ALMOST GOT ARGUING WITH THE ADJUSTER BECAUSE HE CLAIMED MY ARM WAS TWISTED BUT THERE WAS NOT A SINGLE TWIST IN IT. I CONTACTED SEVERAL PEOPLE AND THEY ALL HAVE LOOKED AT IT GIVING ME LETTERS OF OPINION THAT THIS IS DUE TO A FAULTY PART. THE CONTROL ARMS ON THESE PARTICULAR MODELS ARE MADE OUT OF POT METAL WHICH IS GROUNDED UP RECYCLED METAL MELTED TOGETHER. CHRYSLER MANUFACTURER PAINTED THEM BLACK TO GIVE IT A CAST IRON LOOK. THE NEXT STEP WAS MY INSURANCE COMPANY, I CONTACTED THEM, AN ADJUSTER CAME OUT. MY INSURANCE PAID FOR MY BODY DAMAGE TO BE FIXED BUT WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE MECHANICAL PARTS OR THE OTHER LADY'S CAR BECAUSE THEY SAID IT IS WITHOUT A DOUBT CHRYSLERS RESPONSIBILITY. MOST OFTEN WHEN GETTING OFF OF THE FREEWAY AND COASTING TO AN INTERSECTION, OR WHEN MAKING A TURN IN AN INTERSECTION AND LIFTING OFF THE GAS PEDAL. ENGINE DIES AND THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN CAUSING A LOSS IN POWER STEERING AND ALL POWER. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A USED 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED (5.7 HEMI). THE VEHICLE IS IN VERY GOOD SHAPE FOR IT'S AGE EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT THREE OF THE FOUR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKEN. THE ONLY HANDLE THAT ISN'T COMPLETELY BROKEN IS THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HAS HAS A HOLE IN THE PLASTIC ABOUT THE SIZE OF A QUARTER. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HAS ALSO HAS A HOLE AND ALMOST ALL OF THE PLASTIC HOUSING IS MISSING. FORTUNATELY, BOTH OF THESE DOOR HANDLES ARE STILL OPERATIONAL FROM THE INSIDE. THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR HAS THE MOST DAMAGE AND ALTHOUGH OPERATIONAL, THERE IS ONLY ONE SMALL PIECE OF PLASTIC THAT IS HOLDING THE PIN THAT CONNECTS THE CABLE TO THE HANDLE. ONCE THE PIN FALLS OUT, THE DOOR WILL NO LONGER BE OPERATIONAL FROM THE INSIDE AND THE PLASTIC THAT IS CURRENTLY HOLDING IT IN PLACE IS EXTREMELY BRITTLE. THE WHOLE MECHANISM THAT OPENS THE DOOR IS EXPOSED THROUGH THE DOOR AND THE ACTUAL HANDLE NO LONGER IS SEATED WHERE IT IS SUPPOSED BE. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE DRIVER DOOR BECOMES INOPERABLE AND THAT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE.

INITIALLY THOUGHT ENGINE ACCELERATED WHEN PRESSING ON BRAKE PEDAL. CAME TO REALIZE THAT I WAS PRESSING BOTH THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE TOGETHER. POOR DESIGN. *JB
TL* - WHILE DRIVING 40 - 45 MILES PER HOUR. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE ON A GRAVEL/DIRT ROAD WHICH CAUSED A COLLISION WITH A POST. THE CONTACT'S AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE SEATBELT DIDN'T SECURE HER IN THE VEHICLE WHICH CAUSED HER TO LOSE 4 FRONT TEETH AND, SEVERELY INJURE HER JAW BONE AND CHIN.
2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE DOES NOT ALLOW TODDLER CAR SEATS TO BE INSTALLED PROPERLY IN THE BACK SEAT DUE TO PERMANENT AND NON ADJUSTABLE HEADRESTS. RECEIVED LETTER FROM CERTIFIED NHTSA SAFETY INSTRUCTOR STATING THIS TO BE TRUE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THIS WAS ACCOMPANIED BY ALL THE GAUGES CEASING TO FUNCTION WITH A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE DASHBOARD PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT MOISTURE HAD COLLECTED IN THE JUNCTION BOX. THE JUNCTION BOX WAS REPLACED, BUT THE PROBLEMS PERSISTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE, THERE WAS A LOSS OF ALL VEHICLE POWER, AND THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. AFTERWARDS, THE ENGINE WAS EASILY RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE ELECTRICAL WIRES ALONG THE ENGINE WERE MOUNTED INCORRECTLY AND HAD WORN INTO. THE ELECTRICAL WIRES WERE REPLACED, BUT THE ENGINE STALLING PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. UPDATED 12/28/2006 - WHIKE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 5 - 60 MPH ALL THE DASJ LIGHTS WOULD FLASH ON AND OFF AND THE VEHICLE WOULD LOOSE POWER. SO FAR THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE CRANK SENSOR DUE TO WEAR, FRONT CONTROL MODULE. *NM
THE DASH BOARD COMPUTER FAILS TWICE AND INFORMATION PANEL SAYS BRAKES FAILING. ALSO TRANSMISSION FAILURE LEADING TO SUDDEN DEACCELERATION FROM 40 TO 20 MPH AND RPM SHOT UP FROM 2 TO 6. *NM
2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 4X4. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AT A BUSY INTERSECTION WITH WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN ABOARD IN NOVEMBER 2006. THE DEALERSHIP HAD TO CALL CHHRYSLER PRIOR TO ORDERING PARTS BECAUSE CHRYSLER HAD A HOLD"ON THE PARTS NEEDED TO MAKE THE REPAIR. THE HOLD PLACED ON THE PARTS WAS DUE TO THE FACT CHRYSLER KNEW THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND WANTED TO MAKE SURE THE DEALERSHIP FIXED THE PROBLEM CORRECTLY. SINCE THAT TIME, THE JEEP'S "NEW" TRANSMISSION HESITATES WHEN CLIMBING HILLS, ACCELERATING ETC. I HAVE TAKEN THE JEEP BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM CORRECTED. THE DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM WITH THE AUTOMOBILE. CHRYSLER DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM TO THE DEALERSHIP AS "FISH NIPPING AT BAIT". CHRYSLER'S TECHNICAL TEAM TELLS THE DEALERSHIP THEY ARE WORKING ON A NEW COMPUTER PROGRAM TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. IT HAS NOW BEEN 2 MONTHS SINCE THE DIAGNOSIS, AND WHO KNOWS HOW LONG SINCE CHRYSLER HAS BEEN AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND I STILL AM DRIVING, AND PAYING FOR, A VEHICLE THAT THE MANUFACTURER KNOWS IS FAULTY. IN ADDITION, I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO RECEIVE ANY SATISFACTION BY CALLING CHRYSLER'S NUMEROUS 1-800 NUMBERS. ALL I HAVE BEEN TOLD IS THAT THE APPROPRIATE PARTIES HAVE BEEN CONTACTED. WHO THOSE ARE I DO NOT KNOW AND THEY WOULD NOT TELL ME! MY DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLERS TECHNICAL TEAM HAVE ALREADY BEEN IN CONTACT AND THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM! I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE DEFECT THE JEEP IS EXPERIENCING WILL NOT HARM THE AUTOMOBILE. I HAVE NOT ONCE BEEN CONCERNED WITH THE EFFECT THE DEFECT HAS ON THE AUTOMOBILE BUT I HAVE BEEN CONCERNED WITH THE EFFECT IT HAS ON MY WIFE AND I WHEN DRIVING THE AUTOMOBILE. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT CHRYSLER PLANS ON DOING ABOUT SELLING ME A VEHICLE THAT HAS NOT WORKED PROPERLY FOR THE MAJORITY OF TIME I HAVE OWNED IT! THEIR LACK OF CONCERN REGARDING THEIR PRODUCT AND THE SAFETY OF THOSE WHO DRIVE THEIR PRODUCT IS APPALLING. *AK
