WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, 5.7L, QUANDRA DRIVE II TRANSMISSION. WHILE DRIVING YESTERDAY A POLICEMAN ON PATROL NOTICED A SUDDEN FIRE UNDER HER CAR. OFFICER SAID TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS LEAKING ONTO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND CAUSED IGNITION OF FIRE. OCCUPANTS EXTRACTED THEMSELVES WITHOUT PROBLEM. ENTIRE CAR ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND EXTINGUISHED BY LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT. CAR AN ENTIRE LOSS. VERY LENGTHY SERVICE HISTORY WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN THIS VEHICLE PRIOR TO FIRE. *TR
WHEN SLOWING DOWN APPROACHING A HARD STOP, MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LTD SHUTS OFF. THIS HAPPENS ABOUT ONCE EVERY SIX WEEKS. THE DEALER CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHY IT DOES THIS. I'VE NARROWLY AVOIDED GOING OVER A HILL, DRIFTING BACK INTO CARS BEHIND ME WHILE STOPPING UP A HILL, AND ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THE DEALER SAID UNLESS THE COMPUTER REGISTERS A CODE, THERE IS NO WAY THEY CAN FIX. THEY REFUSE TO SEND THIS UP TO THE DISTRICT MANAGER FOR REFERRAL TO CHYRSLER HQ. I SEE ON THE INTERNET THERE ARE NUMEROUS MODELS ENCOUNTERING THIS ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL THE DOOR HANDLES WERE CRACKED AND THE HANDLES MOVED AROUND INSIDE OF THE PANEL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS A RECURRING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE CRACKED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLES WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. MY RIGHT FRONT DIRECTIONAL STAYS ON ALL THE TIME. EVEN WHEN KEY IS OFF. I TOOK THE BULBS OUT SO BATTERY WOULD NOT GO DEAD. I AM DRIVING WITHOUT THE FRONT RIGHT DIRECTIONAL. CALLED DEALER, THEY TELL ME THE FRONT CONTROL MODULE IS OUT OF WARRANTY, AND IF I BUY ONE FROM EBAY AT $50 IT MAY NOT WORK AND HAS TO BE PROGRAMMED AT DEALER. THEY ARE GOING TO GIVE ME A DISCOUNT PRICE TO REPAIR OF $603. I TOLD THEM TO ORDER THE PART OVER A WEEK AGO, AND TODAY THEY TOLD ME IT IS ON BACK ORDER AND THEY WILL CALL ME WHEN IT COMES IN. IS THIS A COMMON PROBLEM, AND IF SO SHOULDN'T THEY HAVE A PART SOME WHERE TO REPAIR IT? THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP. *TR
ALL INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES HAVE CRACKED AND BECOME LOOSE. ONE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR HANDLE COMPLETELY FELL OFF. DEALER SAID $2,000 TO FIX ALL DOORS, HANDLES HAVE NOT BEEN REPAIRED. CANNOT EXIT CAR WITHOUT ROLLING DOWN THE WINDOWS AND OPENING DOORS FROM THE OUTSIDE. *TR

THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURES WHICH THERE NO RESOLUTIONS. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE ENGINE REVVED VERY LOUDLY. THE VEHICLE THEN SURGED FORWARD SIX FEET. THERE WAS NO CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED BY THE DEALER FOR THIS FAILURE ONE YEAR EARLIER. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 10,500.

OUR 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED 5.7L HAS STALLED OUT THREE TIMES AFTER PURCHASING USED IN 2007. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE WHILE TRAVELING 65 MILES PER HOUR ON AN INTERSTATE AND ONCE WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. EACH TIME THE VEHICLE STALLS OUT, THE ENTIRE CAR SHUTS DOWN, INCLUDING ELECTRONICS. EACH TIME THE VEHICLE HAS RESTARTED WITHOUT TROUBLE. *TR

THE CONTACT'S WIFE PREVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT PURCHASED FOUR NEW TIRES, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MAY 2, 2008. THE FAILURE ALWAYS OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNING LEFT AT LOW SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE HAD JUST BEEN SERVICED AT THE DEALER FOR ITS 30,000 MILE MAINTENANCE AND NO FAILURES WERE IDENTIFIED AT THAT TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,100.
I SAW THE NEWS THIS MORNING THAT CHRYSLER JEEP HAS ADMITTED TO A DEFECT WHERE THE JEEP CHEROKEES (2005) TURNS OFF UNEXPECTEDLY AND THERE ARE ISSUES WITH THE AIRBAG. MY JEEP HAS TURNED OFF/STALLED SOON AFTER I HAVE STARTED DRIVING IT ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS. IT SORT OF STALLS WITH NO POWER GOING TO THE ENGINE AND THEN A FEW SECONDS LATER KICKS IN AND MOVES. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS RIGHT AFTER I PULL OUT OF A PARKING SPACE OR PULL AWAY FROM THE CURB TO START DRIVING IN A LANE OF TRAFFIC. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR IN AND DISCUSSED THE PROBLEM A COUPLE TIMES AND BEEN TOLD THERE IS NO PROBLEM. AS A SEPARATE OR RELATED ISSUE, DURING ONE OF MY FIRST SERVICES AT A JEEP DEALERSHIP WHEN I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP WARNING LIGHTS TURNED ON -- I WENT BACK TO HAVE THE ISSUE ADDRESSED AND WAS FINALLY TOLD ON THE FOURTH VISIT THAT THERE WAS A FAULTY SOFTWARE UPGRADE AND NOT TO WORRY UNLESS A LIGHT WENT ON AND STAYED ON (I DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO PURSUE THE ISSUE AND I GOT NO WHERE WITH THE DEALERSHIP). MORE RECENTLY IT HAS BEEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT THAT GOES ON AND OFF (IF IS NOW OFF). FINALLY, I WENT TO THE CHRYSLER WEBSITE THIS MORNING AND ENTERED MY VIN AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL OR NOTICES. I HOPE THAT THE NHTSA REQUIRES CHRYSLER TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND/OR IT IS ADDRESSED THROUGH A CLASS ACTION. *TR
I OWN A 2005 JEEP, GRAND CHEROKEE WITH 39,000 MILES. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN SUDDENLY I HAD TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN APPLYING THE GAS. I COASTED THE VEHICLE OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE RODE AND APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK AND GOT OFF THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL FORWARD. I HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING EVEN THOUGH IT WAS IN PARK. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS. *TR

2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4.7 LIMITED. PURCHASED CAR ... 2ND OWNER... WITH 21K ON THE ODOMETER. CAR CONSTANTLY STALLED... I HAD ONE SPELL WHERE JUST ABOUT EVERYTIME I STOPPED THE CAR STALLED. HOW DANGEROUS AND CRAZY IS THIS? I BROUGHT THE CAR UNDER WARRANTY AND JEEP KEPT TRYING TO FIX IT. 2 WEEKS LATER ISSUE WOULD BE BACK. AFTER 5 DEALER VISITS NOW THE CAR HAS ONLY STALLED TWICE IN THE LAST 3K MILES. STILL ITS RIDICULOUS. DAIMLER CHRYLSER NEEDS TO STEP UP AND FIGURE THIS OUT NOW B4 MORE PEOPLE GET HURT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT PROPPED UP THE HYDRAULIC HOOD IN ORDER TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. THE HOOD CAME DOWN ABRUPTLY ONTO THE CONTACT'S HEAD AND BACK. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HEAD INJURIES. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,315 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,260.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V396000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED. A FEW MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY DISCOVERED THAT ONLY PART OF THE RECALL WORK WAS DONE. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER ARE REFUSING TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR BECAUSE THE CONTACT IS THE THIRD OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
I HAVE A 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT I'VE OWNED 2 YEARS AND HAVE PUT 28,000 MILES ON IT AND MY BATTERY IS DEAD. NOT REALIZING WHAT A PAIN IT WOULD BE TO GET A NEW BATTERY I THOUGHT OH WELL. WELL UPON CONTACTING EVERY AUTO PLACE AND MULTIPLE DEALERSHIPS WITHIN A 25 MILE RADIUS I FOUND OUT THAT NO ONE CARRIES THIS MOPAR/CHRSYLER BATTERY. IT HAS TO BE SPECIAL ORDERED AND TO TOP IT OFF IT GOES FOR BETWEEN 120-150 AND THIS IS THE ONLY CHOICE FOR THIS SUV. PER THE DEALERSHIPS THE BATTERY DOES COME WITH A 72 MONTH WARRANTY AT LEAST. SO I CALL CHRYSLER TO SEE IF THEY WILL PRORATE THE BATTERY BEING I'VE ONLY THE JEEP 2 YEARS AND IT'S ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. WELL OF COURSE THEY SAY NO. WHEN YOU PURCHASE ONE OF THEIR CARS THE BATTERY IS ONLY WARRANTED FOR 36 MONTHS OR 36,000 MILES BUT IF I GO BUY THE EXACT SAME BATTERY NOW THEY WILL WARRANTY IT FOR 72 MONTHS. TO ME THIS DOES NOT SOUND ACCURATE BUT THEY REFUSE TO HELP IN ANYWAY. THEY SAID THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I AM NOT ASKING FOR SOMETHING FOR FREE BUT I BELIEVE THE BATTERY SHOULD BE PRORATED. *TR

I OWN A CAR WASH IN BELVIDERE, IL AND ON 4-6-08, WE HAD A CUSTOMER BRING THEIR 2005 JEEP CHEROKEE IN, WE PUT IT IN OUT TUNNEL AND RAN IT THROUGH OUR AUTOMATIC WASH IN NEUTRAL, AND AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL A DRIVER GOT IN, PUT THE JEEP IN PARK..STARTED IT, AND THE JEEP TOOK OFF RACING DOWN A DITCH AND ONTO A MAJOR STREET. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP WHEN THE DRIVER CRASHED IT INTO A CEMENT LIGHT POLE. THE JEEP IS TOTALED, AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES, BUT IT CAME CLOSE TO RUNNING OVER FOUR CUSTOMERS THAT WERE STANDING, WAITING FOR THEIR CARS TO BE DONE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH THIS SAME JEEP AN ANOTHER WASH FACILITY. THIS IS THE SECOND ONE WE HAVE HAD AT OUT SITE IN TWO YEARS. HELP!! *TR
FRONT DOOR HAS POOR QUALITY PLASTIC WHICH CAUSES DOOR TO BECOME INOPERABLE IN JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2005 MODELS. I'M THE ORIGINAL USER OF A JEEP GRANDCHEROKEE LAREDO,2005, WITH A 64,000 MILES. THE HAZARD IS THAT ALL(4)INTERIORS DOORS HANDLES BROKEDOWN DUE TO CHEAP PLASTIC MATERIALS AND BECAUSE THEY MADE THE DOOR HANDLES AS AN INTEGRATE PART OF THE COMPLETE DOOR PANEL.THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE DOOR OPENS ONLY FROM OUTSIDE, PUTTING ALL OCCUPANTS LIFE JEOPARDIZED. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING OF HEAVY USE OR DUE TO BEHAVIOR OF THE OCCUPANTS. AS A FACT THIS CAR WAS MY COMPANY CAR SO NO MANY PEOPLE WAS SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT. THE COST OF THIS FOUR PANELS(INCLUDING THE HANDLES) IS ABOVE THE $2,000.00. I SAW OTHER COMPLAINTS IN OTHER SITES ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM INCLUDING PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT THESE SUV'S IN EUROPE. AFTER EXAMINING THE VEHICLE SHE NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE ROTOR HAD SEPARATED INTO TWO PIECES. THE ROTORS HAVE NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNAVAILABLE.
OUR 2005 JEEP CHEROKEE HAS 16,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT. I MADE A RIGHT TURN AND IN THE MIDDLE OF MY TURN, THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL FELL OFF. I LOST MY BREAKS BUT BECAUSE I WAS GOING SO SLOW I SOON CAME TO A STOP. I CALLED LONE STAR JEEP CHRYSLER AND HAD IT TOWED TO THEM. A CHRYSLER ENGINEER CAME TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED I HAD A COLLISION. IN ESSENCE THEY SAID I WAS LYING. NO AIRBAGS WERE DEPLOYED AND I STATED THE INCIDENT EXACTLY AS IT HAPPENED. THE VEHICLE IS STILL BEING REPAIRED AND IT WILL BE AT OUR COST. THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS HAS REPORTED TODAY THAT THERE HAS BEEN A HISTORY OF THE UPPER BALL JOINTS SEPARATING IN JEEPS YET CHRYSLER REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. *TR
NO EVENTS LEAD TO FAILURE THAT CAN BE RECALLED. THE UPPER DRIVER'S SIDE BALL JOINT SEPARATED FROM THE KNUCKLE, CAUSING COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL, FORTUNATELY, THE CAR WAS TRAVELING AT ONLY 15 MPH. THIS WAS WITNESSED BY AN OAKLAND COUNTY (MICHIGAN-HOME OF CHRYSLER HEADQUARTERS) SHERIFF. WATER POURS IN THROUGH THE A PILLARS AND WHERE THE GARAGE OPENER IS. THIS ONLY HAPPENS IN THE WINTER MONTHS, WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS REALLY COLD. THIS HAPPENED 2 OR 3 TIMES LAST WINTER (2006) AND NOW IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 4 DAYS. THE PATTERN IS WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS SNOW ON ROOF AND IT GETS REALLY COLD THEN WARMS UP A LITTLE THE WATER POURS IN. THE CARPET IS SOAKED. I CAN HEAR THE ICE MOVING AROUND IN THE A PILLARS WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THE DEALER CAN'T SIMULATE THIS. THEY PUT THE VEHICLE IN A ROOM AND RUN WATER OVER IT. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS FOR YEARS IN MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE DOOR HANDLES ON THE INSIDE ARE ALL BROKEN. ONE IN THE BACK IS COMPLETELY BROKE OFF AND THE 2 IN THE FRONT ARE HANGING BY A WIRE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE AND I GET NOWHERE WHEN TRYING TO TALK TO JEEP OR EVEN JEEP DEALERS. RECENTLY I SAW ONLINE MANY MORE PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM AND SOMEONE EVEN SAID JEEP AGREED TO A $50 COPAY IN 2010. I BROUGHT MY JEEP INTO THE DEALER WHEN IT WAS STILL COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY BOUGHT FROM JEEP WHEN I BOUGHT IT IN 2006, AND THEY TOLD ME IT IS COSMETIC AND NOT COVERED. THIS IS THE SECOND COMPLAINT I HAVE FILED CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A CONTINUAL ISSUE THAT, IF LEFT UNCORRECTED, WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. MY 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE (4.7L AT) STALLS OR NEARLY STALLS WHILE COMING TO A STOP, OR ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. THE LAST REPORTED INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE APPROACHING A STOPLIGHT. SINCE THAT INITIAL COMPLAINT, I HAVE SPENT 19 HOURS OVER 3 VISITS TO THE DEALER TRYING TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. AFTER REPLACING A SOLENOID IN THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY, THE CONDITION SEEMED TO IMPROVE, BUT HAS SINCE REGRESSED TO PRE-REPAIR STATUS. I HAVE RECEIVED NO FEEDBACK CONCERNING MY ORIGINAL COMPLAINT FROM NHTSA, NOR HAVE I BEEN NOTIFIED BY DAIMLER-CHRYSLER OF ANY DEVELOPMENTS IN CORRECTING THIS PROBLEM. RELYING ON DC'S INITIATIVE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE AND NECESSARY REPAIR FOR THIS ISSUE SEEMS IRRESPONSIBLE SINCE THEY HAVEN'T DONE SO IN THE TWO YEARS THAT MY MODEL HAS BEEN ON THE STREET. WHEN THEY COULD PERSONALLY OBSERVE THE EVENT, AND CAPTURE IT IN THE VEHICLE COMPUTER, THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE FURTHER TO SEE IF ANY REPAIR WAS WARRANTED. THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE HAS BEEN REPLACED (3) TIMES AND WORKS FOR A LITTLE LESS THAN A YEAR AND THEN THE PROBLEM RETURNS. I FIRST HEARD OF THE SAFETY RECALL - IGNITION SWITCH P41/NHTSA 14V-438 (AS I LATER LEARNED) FROM THE MEDIA. I CALLED THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE ON WHEN I COULD BRING THE CAR IN FOR REPAIR. THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PART AND TO CALL BACK WHEN I GET A LETTER SAYING THE PART IS AVAILABLE; THAT WAS ALMOST 6 MONTHS AGO. IN THE MEANTIME I HAVE ALSO RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHRYSLER INFORMING ME OF THE RECALL. THAT CAME ALMOST 3 MONTH AFTER THE RECALL WAS ON THE NEWS.YESTERDAY, WHILE DRIVING MY CAR ALL THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON AND OFF AND MY CAR MOMENTARILY STALLED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THESE ARE THE SAME ISSUES I'VE BEEN HAVING WHERE THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE HAS BEEN REPLACED AND READING THE SYMPTOMS OF THIS IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEM, I THINK THEY ARE RELATED. I CALLED CHRYSLER'S RECALL ASSISTANCE CENTER TODAY AND WAS ON HOLD FOR 2 HOURS BEFORE I GAVE UP. THERE WAS NO WAY TO LEAVE A MESSAGE FOR CHRYSLER TO CALL ME BACK. THE RECALL HAS BEEN IN AFFECT SINCE JULY 2014 AND HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED IN A REASONABLE TIME. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE AS IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD TO MYSELF AND OTHERS.
