WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHIFTED GEARS AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL WHILE RPMS SHOT UP RAPIDLY TO 3,000. IT THEN SUDDENLY LUNGED FORWARD AND PICKED UP SPEED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER A DAY OR SO, THE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF. IT WAS VERY SCARY TO HAVE IT CHANGE GEARS AND NOT BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN SPEED AND SUDDENLY SPEED UP AGAIN WHILE TRAVELING WITH VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME AND BEHIND ME. YOU ESSENTIALLY HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IN THAT MOMENT, NOR DO YOU HAVE ANY WARNING THAT IT IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. DRIVERS AROUND YOU ALSO HAVE NO WARNING THAT YOUR CAR WILL SUDDENLY SLOW DOWN OR LUNGE FORWARD. MOST OF THE TIME I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND THEN BACK INTO DRIVE FOR IT TO WORK. HAPPENS AT ANY GIVEN TIME, WHETHER IM GOING 5 MPH OR 65 MPH.. EVEN ON HIGHWAYS. CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
ALL FOUR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES AND ATTACHING MOUNTS ON MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ARE NOW CRACKED ARE NOW NOT USABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE, NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS TO DELMAR CHRYSLER GO UNHEARD AND UNANSWERED, AND THE COMPANY OFFERS NO SOLUTION OR RECALL TO THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURE OF THIS VEHICLE. THE PLASTIC USED TO MOUNT THE DOOR HANDLES IS BRITTLE AND WILL CRACK BEYOND REPAIR, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE, THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE EXITED BY PASSENGER IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH OR EMERGENCY. I SUPPOSE SOMEONE WILL DIE IN A CRASHED, BURNING, OR SINKING VEHICLE BEFORE CHRYSLER WILL STEP UP AND RECALL THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
ALL FOUR INTERIOR DOOR PANELS HAVE CRACKED AND BROKEN WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE DOOR. CONSEQUENTLY, THE DOOR HANDLES BECOME INOPERABLE BECAUSE THEY ARE ATTACHED TO THE PANEL WHERE THE CRACKING OCCURS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGERS ARE UNABLE TO EXIT QUICKLY IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY AND MIGHT NOT EVEN BE ABLE TO EXIT AT ALL. CHRYSLER OFFERS NO ASSISTANCE FOR THIS KNOWN ISSUE, WHICH APPEARS TO OCCUR FREQUENTLY WITH THIS MODEL YEAR. *TR
THE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL CRACKED WHERE IT IS ATTACHED TO THE DOOR AND THE HANDLE FALLS OFF, LEAVING THE PASSENGER UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT ASSISTANCE. THIS OCCURS WITH NORMAL USE, NO ABNORMAL USE OR ABUSE. *TR

SINCE THE DAY I PURCHASED MY CERTIFIED USED 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, THE INTERIOR INSTRUMENT PANEL AND DASH LIGHTS HAVE MALFUNCTIONED. THE BRIGHTNESS FLICKERS FROM LOW TO VERY HIGH, WHICH IS VERY DISTRACTING AT NIGHT, SOME OF THE PANEL CONTROLS HAVE SINCE COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING, AND SEVERAL TIMES, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH (SEATBELT, AIRBAG, CHECK ENGINE, ETC) FLASH ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT NUMEROUS SPEEDS AND TIMES OF THE DAY. I VIDEO TAPED SEVERAL INCIDENTS ON MY CELL PHONE TO PROVE IT. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THE VIDEO MEANS NOTHING. IT HAPPENS MORE OFTEN, OR IS MORE NOTICEABLE, AT NIGHT. THEY CHECKED IT IN THE DAYTIME. MADE NO OFFER OF ANY SOLUTION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE ESP WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V438000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE CONTINUALLY HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ENTIRE CONTROL PANEL SHUTTING DOWN, GAUGES GOING TO ZERO, A/C STOPPING, AND HEADLIGHTS TURNING OFF WHEN THEY ARE ON. RECENTLY THE VEHICLE STABILIZATION LIGHTS CAME ON AND A TERRIBLE GRINDING NOISE MADE. THIS HAS PROBABLY HAPPENED 30 TIMES OVER THE PAST YEAR. IT USUALLY HAPPENS IN ABOUT A 5-10 SECOND TIME SPAN. THIS PAST WEEK IT STAYED THAT WAY FOR AROUND 15 MINUTES. *TR
I DO NOT REMEMBER EXACTLY WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTED, BUT WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, MY LIGHTS STARTED FLICKERING AND THEN WENT OUT ALL TOGETHER. I THOUGHT IT HAPPENED WHEN I TURNED MY SIGNAL LIGHTS ON, BUT I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE CAUSE. I TOOK IT TO THE JEEP DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. EVERY NOW AND THEN, I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE, BUT NOTHING CAN BE FOUND. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR ME AND IT TERRIFIES ME THAT SOMEONE WILL THINK I AM FLASHING THEM AND BECOME ANGRY. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING WRONG IF THERE ARE SO MANY WITH THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM, BUT NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT. I PURCHASED AS A ONE PERSON LEASE VEHICLE FROM A DEALERSHIP AND WITHIN A YEAR HAD TO HAVE MY TRANSMISSION REPLACED. I COULD NOT ENTER TRANSMISSION IN THE PARTS SECTION. *TR
AFTER 4+ YEARS OF CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ABOUT HIS VERY SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD, STILL NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. THE DOOR HANDLES OF MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE STARTED CRUMBLING AND CRACKING ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO AT ABOUT 38,000 MILES. A YEAR AGO, THE FIRST DOOR HANDLE SIMPLY BROKE OFF AMONGST SHARDS OF PANELING AROUND IT, MAKING THE DOOR INOPERABLE. TODAY, THREE OUT OF FOUR PANELS HAVE DESINTEGRATED AROUND THE HANDLES TO THE POINT WHERE THEY ARE INOPERABLE AS WELL, EFFECTIVELY TRAPPING SOMEONE IN THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE IF I DARED TO TO HAVE PASSENGERS AND GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT. THE DRIVER'S SIDE IS HANGING BY A THREAD. I AM UNABLE TO DRIVE MY CLIENTS ANYMORE DUE TO LIABILITY ISSUES AND THE DANGER THAT STEMS FROM THIS AWFULLY POOR DESIGN AND QUALITY. I HAVE READ 100S OF TESTIMONIALS TO THIS AVAIL FROM OTHER JEEP OWNERS AND THIS GRAVE SAFETY ISSUE PERSISTS AND IS ALIVE AND WELL WITHOUT ANY OFFICIAL PUSH FOR REMEDIATION. THE DEALERS WANT ALMOST $3000 TO REPLACE THEIR SHODDY AND DANGEROUS DOOR PANELS. PLEASE. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT AFTER YEARS OF COLLECTING DATA ON THIS ISSUE, SOMETHING WILL BE DONE. THESE FAULTY DOOR PANELS ARE TURNING THE VEHICLE POTENTIALLY INTO A DEATH TRAP FOR ANYONE INSIDE... *JS
THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN STRUGGLING CHANGING GEARS AND THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR MANY YEARS. YOU MAY LOOK BACK AND SEE WHERE WE MADE THIS COMPLAINT INITIALLY AND THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN OCCURRING LONG BEFORE THIS AND CONTINUES TO GET WORSE. I KNOW THE 2005 JEEP CHEROKEES WERE RECALLED FOR HAVING THE VERY SAME ISSUE FROM THE MANY MECHANICS WHO HAVE DRIVEN MY CAR TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. ONE OF THE MECHANICS WHERE I TOOK IT TO WAS CHRYSLER JEEP IN ASHEVILLE, N.C. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT I DID HAVE A 2005 TRANSMISSION WHICH HAD BEEN ON YOUR RECALL LIST. I WOULD LIKE TO GET THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED AS I HAVE BEEN TRAVELING WITH THIS ISSUE FOR QUITE SOMETIME WITH NO RESOLUTION.
A YEAR AND A HALF AGO I WAS ON MY WAY BACK HOME FROM A HALF AN HOUR DRIVE FROM TOWN WHEN I DECIDED TO STOP AT MY PARENTS HOUSE TO GET A DRINK. I WASN'T INSIDE FOR LESS THEN TEN MINUTES, WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE MY JEEP WOULD NOT START AT ALL. AFTER A HALF HOUR LATER LOOKING EVERYTHING OVER I DID NOTICE THE FUEL PUMP FUSE WAS MELTED AND BLOWN. I WAS ASKED BYE AMERICAN CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IF I HAD SOMETHING PLUGGED INTO MY CIGARETTE LIGHTER THAT COULD OF BLOWN IT. I'VE BEEN A MECHANIC FOR 11 YEARS NOW AND I'VE NEVER KNOWN TO SEE THE FUEL PUMP FUSE RAN TO OTHER COMPONENTS MEANING INTERIOR OUTLETS. NOW A HALF YEAR LATER I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING MY JEEP AT TIMES AND HAVING NO POWER TO THE MOTOR AT ALL. I WANT TO GET RID OF THIS JEEP. NOW I HAD A RECALL ON THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH AND JUST TODAY I GET ANOTHER RECALL FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH. I KEEP HAVING AXEL POPPING SOUNDS OUT OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AND I'M FED UP WITH THIS JEEP. *TR
MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LARDEO HAS ALL THE SAME ISSUES AS LISTED BY EVERY OTHER JEEP OWNER. THE ENGINE RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THE DASH BOARD AND HEADLIGHTS FLICKER ON AND OFF CONSTANTLY. SOMETIMES WE START SOMETIMES WE DONT. WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC , MAYBE IT WILL GO, MAYBE IT WONT. I HAVE LOST MY BRAKES ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AS WELL. NOW THE JEEP SITS IN MY DRIVEWAY AS IT WONT START AT ALL, AND OF COARSE NOBODY CAN TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT AS USUAL ! NOTHING LIKE PAYING FOR A DEAD HORSE ! I HAVE CONTACTED THE CHRYSLER CORPORATION ONLY TO BE TOLD THESE ARE NOT "SAFETY" ISSUES. GOOD LORD WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET A DECENT VEHICLE THAT IS SAFE AND RELIABLE ? I GUESS THAT WOULD BE NOT BUYING ANYTHING CHRYSLER, DODGE, JEEP IN THE FUTURE IS THE ROUTE I WILL TAKE ! I ONLY HOPE WHEN ONE OF THESE TICKING BOMBS FAIL, MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARENT ON THE ROAD THAT DAY !
DRIVER'S DOOR INTERIOR HANDLE HOUSING BROKEN RENDERING DOOR HANDLE INOPERATIVE. CANNOT OPEN DOOR IN NORMAL OPERATION AND IS A HAZARD IN AN EMERGENCY. JEEP IS UNWILLING TO FIX DEFECTIVE PARTS AND STATES THAT THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL HAS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OVER $700/EA., BUT THE PARTS ARE ON NATIONAL BACKORDER. DOING A QUICK SEARCH BRINGS UP NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM WITH NO CLEAR SOLUTION. I AM NOW CONCERNED THAT THE OTHER DOORS WILL FAIL SOON. *TR
INTERIOR PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF - WITHIN ONE WEEK'S TIME - NOTICED ALL REMAINING DOORHANDLES WERE CRACKING AND WILL BREAK OFF SHORTLY. NO EXCESSIVE WEAR AND TEAR HAS CAUSED THIS - SHOWS DEFECTIVE PARTS DUE TO THE FACT THAT ALL HAVE BECOME CRACKED/BROKEN AT THE SAME TIME. TWO OF THE DOOR HANDLES GET VERY LITTLE USE, SO IT IS NOT DUE TO EXCESSIVE OR ABUSIVE USE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD - IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT, MY SON WOULD BE UNABLE TO EXIT THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO BROKEN HANDLES!!!! *TR
AFTER BUYING A PRE-OWNED 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED (59K MILES) A FEW DAYS AGO, I NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE BACKSEAT INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES IS BROKEN. THERE IS NO APPARENT BREAK FROM WHAT YOU CAN SEE, BUT SOME PLASTIC MUST HAVE CRACKED INSIDE OF THE DOOR ITSELF. I'VE READ THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN 05-07 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES AND THERE IS NO RECALL. IT SEEMS THAT, ALTHOUGH IT IS ONLY THE ONE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE NOW, EVENTUALLY ALL FOUR WILL BREAK. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT PREVENTS PASSENGERS FROM EXITING THE VEHICLE WITHOUT HELP FROM OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. THE FIX IS QUOTED AT $400/DOOR, MAKING IT SOMEWHAT UNREASONABLE, ESPECIALLY FOR A CRUCIAL AND SIMPLE FUNCTION OF THE CAR. *TR
THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT STARTED TO GET HAIR LINE CRACKS IN IT. IT IS CRACKING MORE AND MORE WITH USE. AT SOME POINT THE HANDLE WILL COME APART AND I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF MY CAR. I ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT A REPAIR AND THEY WANT $800.00 TO REPLACE THE WHOLE DOOR PANEL. IT APPEARS THIS WILL HAPPEN WITH THE OTHER DOORS AS WELL. THERE ARE AFTER MARKET REPAIR KITS, BUT AFTER RESEARCHING AND FINDING THAT THIS IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH THE HANDLES, I BELIEVE JEEP SHOULD REPLACE OR REPAIR THEM FOR FREE. *TR
INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE CRACKING AND CRUMBLING ON THE CAR. THE ONLY REPAIR THE DEALER HAS IS TO REPLACE THE DOOR PANELS FOR $800 EACH. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER GROUP LLC CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE ([XXX]), THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.THEY WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR HANDLES. THEY WILL ONLY SAY THAT MY CAR IS TO OLD, HAS NO WARRANTY SO THEREFORE THEY CANNOT ASSIST ME WITH THIS REPAIR. WE BOUGHT A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SRT-8 AND THE FRONT TIRES HAD BEEN RECENTLY REPLACED SO WE WEREN'T TOO CONCERNED BUT WHEN I DID AN OIL CHANGE ON SUNDAY I NOTICED THE RIGHT FRONT TIRES TREAD WAS SEPARATING FROM THE REST OF THE TIRE. THIS IS OUR FAMILY VEHICLE SO BECAUSE I WAS WORRIED ABOUT SOMETHING HAPPENING TO THE TIRE AND PERHAPS US WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE THE VEHICLE. I ORDERED A NEW SET OF TIRES AND WILL GET THEM INSTALLED THIS WEEKEND. I AM KEEPING THE OLD TIRES FOR PROOF OF THE DAMAGE. *TR
PASSENGER REAR DOOR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HAS BROKEN. THERE WAS NO ABUSE, THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE WAS OPENED BY AN ADULT AND THEN WHILE OPENING THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE, THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BROKE DUE TO JUST OPENING THE DOOR. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ON MANY BLOGS AND MANY OTHER JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE AREA IS TOO WEAK TO HANDLE THE STRESS OF CASUAL OPENINGS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER FAILED. THE CONTACT COULD ONLY MOVE THE GEAR SHIFTER WITH FORCE AND IT WOULD BECOME STUCK BETWEEN FIRST AND THIRD GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED AT THE GEAR SHIFTER MODULE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
STARTING IN FEB. 2012 THE ENGINE WOULD QUIT RUNNING WHILE DRIVING. WHEN THE ENGINE WOULD QUIT WE LOOSE STEERING AND BRAKING. THE VEHICLE STARTS RIGHT BACK UP AND IS DRIVABLE. WE WOULD EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM ONCE EVERY 2-3 MONTHS. THE FREQUENCY IN WHICH THIS IS HAPPENING HAS INCREASED WITH THE LATEST INCIDENT OCCURRING 3-18-15 WHILE EXITING THE INTERSTATE AND NEARLY AVOIDING A CRASH OFF THE ROADWAY. WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM JEEP (P41) BUT EVERYTIME WE CALL THEY TELL US THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO CONTACT JEEP BUT AM LEFT ON HOLD FOR OVER 40 MINUTES. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP US WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SHIFT SOLENOID FAILED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN ONE YEAR. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH A DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SOLENOIDS SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 136,000. *TR
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL HAS STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY. THE LIGHTING IN BOTH IN THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS THE EXTERIOR FLASHES AND SOMETIMES GOES OUT COMPLETELY. MULTIPLE DEALERS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM. IT HAS CAUSED NEAR CRASHES BEFORE WITH THE DISTRACTION OF DRIVING AT NIGHT. THE CRUISE CONTROL ALSO ACCELERATES WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHILE THIS OCCURS AND THE CRUISE MUST BE RESET BY TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON. THIS TOO HAS CAUSED SOME NEAR CRASHES AS THE CAR ACCELERATES DUE TO THE FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL. *TT
WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (55MPH), ENGAGED CRUISE CONTROL AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UP TO 85 MPH. HAD TO HIT BRAKE TO DISENGAGE CRUISE CONTROL. TRIED TO USE IT AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE AGAIN WENT TO 85. AFTER 4 OR 5 ATTEMPTS, THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY AND STILL DOES NOT WORK TO DATE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING ONTO THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THE TRANSMISSION'S ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR HOUSING WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED WHEN THE PART BECAME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

SUDDENLY EVERY DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT, A/C, HEADLIGHTS, ETC. TURNS ON AND OFF. DEALER RECOMMENDED TO REMOVE EVERYTHING FROM THE KEY CHAIN (?!) SO THEY KNEW THEN THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH. IT HELPED FOR A WHILE UNTIL SAME THING HAPPENED FEBRUARY 2013, BUT THIS TIME ENGINE STALLED FOR A COUPLE SECONDS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND CALLED CHRYSLER. CHRYSLER SAID IT'S GOING TO BE MY PROBLEM UNTIL NHTSA ISSUES OFFICIAL RECALL. DEALER WILL CHARGE ME $360 FOR A NEW IGNITION SWITCH TOMORROW. TAKATA RECALL: I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT WITH MY 2006 GRAND CHEROKEE. THE ACCIDENT WAS DUE TO THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE VEHICLE POWERING DOWN WHILE IN DRIVE, OR IN USE. INJURIES WERE SUFFERED DUE TO THE AIRBAG'S NONE DEPLOYMENT. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND ATTEMPTING TO HAVE TWO RECALLS REPLACED, I WAS TOLD THERE PRESENTLY WAS NO AVAILABLE FIX, OR REPLACEMENT FOR RECALL P41. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED IN 2015 AT FITZPATRICK'S CHRYSLER JEEP (430 E MAIN STREET, ANSONIA, CT 06401 (203) 734-3318) FOR RECALLS P41(IGNITION SWITCH) & N23(POWERTRAIN TRANSFER CASE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). IN JANUARY OF 2012 WITH 37K ON THE VEHICLE THERE WAS THE FIRST OF TWO ACCIDENTS THAT RELATE TO RECALL P41. THIS ACCIDENT WAS DUE TO UNRESPONSIVE BRAKING AND STEERING, WHICH WAS CAUSED BY THE IGNITION SWITCH MOVING FROM THE ON POSITION TO THE OFF POSITION WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE, OR IN USE. THIS ACCIDENT HAPPENED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE (RTE. 80 EAST HAVEN, CT) I NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS UNRESPONSIVE. I USED BOTH FEET AND HANDS TO APPLY THE BREAKS, WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY WRAPPING BOTH HANDS AROUND THE LOWER HALF OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND PULLING UPWARD WITH MY BICEPS TO APPLY ADDITIONAL DOWNWARD MOMENTUM TO THE BREAK PEDAL, BUT STILL I COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED AND OUT POCKET COSTS FOR THIS ACCIDENT TOTAL OVER $7000 DOLLARS. THE SECOND ACCIDENT HAPPENED IN 2016. NOT REALIZING THE VEHICLE WAS OFF WHILE ATTEMPTING TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A FULL STOP ON THE HIGHWAY (RTE.15 NO HAVEN, CT.), I HAD A COLLISION. THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT SLAMMED MY FACE INTO THE STEERING WHEEL. I WAS DAZED AND CONFUSED, WONDERING, WHY HADN'T THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT I'VE HAD WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT WAS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE IGNITION SWITCH. AND, IN BOTH ACCIDENTS AIRBAGS WERE NEVER DEPLOYED. ANY ASSISTANCE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO EXIT THE VEHICLE THE DOOR HANDLE CRACKED THE DOOR PANEL AND RELEASED THE DOOR HANDLE FROM THE DOOR LEAVING IT UNUSABLE AND THE DOOR UNABLE TO BE EXITED. WAS ATTEMPTING TO FLEA VEHICLE AND WAS TRAPPED INSIDE DUE TO WEAK PLASTIC FAILING IN THE DOOR HANDLE. IN THE EVENT THERE WAS A FIRE OR EVEN TOXIC GAS IN THE CAR CABIN, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A FATALITY. EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
The vehicle when it driven for a while it does a slight kick and gets hesitant when you step on gas pedal. I notice when recently bought the lights on the dashboard all lit up. I took to Werner where I bought car but see attached. They sold during winter time , during cold weather it DOES NOT manifest hesitancy. Have to turn off so computer regulates or reboots and is good then. If day is hot it happens more frequent. Winter time have no problem. If stopped in stop sign or light and go have to be gentle on gas pedal to avoid again hesitancy or laziness and drivers behind me probably don’t understand why I take my time stepping on gas eventually drivers start passing me. Within a minute or 2 then it’s ok, I can step on it. Bought car during winter in cold weather no problem it’s great. Summer came and started noticing the laziness and hesitancy. On highway sometimes have issues doesn’t go beyond 40
INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR DOES NOT OPEN DOOR. THE DEALER TELLS ME THE WHOLE DOOR PANEL HAS TO BE REPLACED. COST IS $700 JUST FOR THE PANEL. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT SEEMS TO HAPPEN TO A LOT OF JEEP OWNERS.
I HAD MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DIAGNOSED AND FOUND TO BE THE ESM SHIFTER, AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE THAT CONNECTS THE GEAR SHIFTER TO THE TRANSMISSION. IT WAS SAID TO ME THAT THIS HELPS REGULATE THAT THE TRANSMISSION STAYS IN THE CORRECT GEAR WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSION STICKS IN A CERTAIN GEAR EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT THE CORRECT GEAR I AM DRIVING IN. I HAVE FOUND THAT I HAVE HAD TO PULL OVER, PUT THE VEHICLE AND PARK SO THAT IT CLEARS BEFORE GOING BACK IN GEAR. I HAVE ALSO FOUND THAT THAT PROCESS DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK, WHEN THAT HAS NOT WORKED, I WOULD HAVE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON FOR IT TO SHIFT PROPERLY. I ALSO HAD AN INCIDENT THAT WHILE USING CRUISE CONTROL I WAS GOING UP A HILL SO THE CRUISE CONTROL KICKED IN TO GIVE THE EXTRA BOOST BUT IT DID NOT SHIFT BACK DOWN. I WAS QUICKLY ACCELERATING (ALMOST TO 90 IN ABOUT 5 SECONDS) AND BEING CLOSE TO REACHING 5RPMS I HAD TO TURN OFF CRUISE CONTROL AND SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL FOR IT TO STOP ACCELERATING. DUE TO THE EXTENDED WARRANTY I PURCHASED IT WAS NOT COVERED. I HAVE TALKED TO A FEW MECHANICS AND THEY ALL HAVE SAID THEY HAVE REPLACED MULTIPLE RECENTLY. WHEN TALKING TO JEEP HEADQUARTERS, THEY STATED THAT IT HAS NOT BEEN REPORTED AS A DEFECTIVE ITEM. I WAS ADVISED TO CONTACT NHTSA TO REPORT THIS IN HOPES THAT OTHER HAVE DONE SO SO THAT JEEP IS REQUIRED TO MAKE THIS A RECALL ITEM. MY VEHICLE STARTED ORIGINALLY SLOWING DOWN LIKE IT SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR. I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION BUT WHEN I REPLACED IT I STILL HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE STAYING IN LIMP MODE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, RPM RUNNING HIGH AND NOT GOING INTO OVERDRIVE. THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY AFTER SPENDING OVER $1500.00 ON IT. FROM MY RESEARCH I HAVE ARRIVED AT THE ESM TO BE CAUSING THE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE NOT INDICATING WHAT GEAR FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO SHIFT INTO. I HAVE CALLED THE JEEP CORPORATE OFFICE AND EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED A REPAIR WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT WITH 17,000 MILES ON IT THEY STILL DID NOT FEEL THEY WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR MY TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. TO ME THAT ARE JUST AVOIDING THE FACT THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURE ISSUE WITH EITHER POOR DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION OR QUALITY OF PARTS. VEHICLE SINCE 2011 HESITATES AT ACCELERATION. TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ENGAGE SO THE ENGINE RPMS ARE UP TO 3.5 BEFORE IT AUTOMATIC LAY SHIFTS TO THE NEXT GEAR. THIS HAPPENS A DAILY NOW AND GETTING WORSE. GEARS SEEMS TO AUTOMATICALLY INTO NEUTRAL THEN HANGS THERE WHILE TRYING TO EXCEL. I HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER LAST YEAR AND RECENTLY TO CHECK FOR RECALLS AND ONLINE. I AM TOLD THAT THERE IS A RECALL N23 ON 4 WHEEL DRIVE IN MY MAKE,MODEL AND YEAR BUT MY VEHICLE IS A 2 WHEEL DRIVE SO THIS N23 DOES NOT APPLY. ALTHOUGH IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THIS RECALL. I CAN NOT SEE THE ROADS AT DARK, I HAVE HAD TO DRIVE WITH MY BRIGHTS ON FOR YEARS. I ALSO SEE THAT THE NADA HAS A RECALL ON THE REFLECTORS IN THE HEADLAMPS! I HAVE A 2006 JEEP CHEROKEE LAREDO AND 3 OUT OF 4 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE COMPLETELY BROKEN. I PURCHASED THIS JEEP IN DEC OF LAST YEAR. SLOWLY BUT SURELY THE PLASTIC COMPONENT THAT HOUSES THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HAS CRACKED, WITH PIECES FALLING OUT. NOW ON THE RIGHT SIDE REAR DOOR THE HANDLE HAS FALLEN OUT BECAUSE THE PLASTIC HAS COMPLETELY FAILED. THE OTHER THREE PLASTIC PIECES ARE ALSO ALL CRACKING WITH HANDLES ALREADY GETTING LOOSE. DRIVING APPROX 50 MPH, THE JEEP QUIT, NO WARNING SIGNS, NO POWER STEERING. MOMENTUM GOT ME OFF THE ROAD. DEALERSHIP WASN'T ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS HAPPENED IN MARCH 2011. SEPT 2011 I WAS PASSING A TRANSIT BUS ON THE WAY TO WORK AND AS I STARTED TO PULL BACK INTO MY OWN LANE THE JEEP QUIT AGAIN. NO WARNINGS, IT JUST QUIT. I HAD TO COAST INTO THE FRONT YARD OF SOMEONES HOUSE BECAUSE I HAD NO STEERING. I SAT FOR A FEW MINUTES, STARTED IT UP AND DROVE BACK HOME. THE ONBOARD DIAGNOSTICS LIGHT, ESP, BAS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS WERE ON. FROM THAT POINT THE JEEP WAS RUNNING VERY BADLY. DEALER HAD MY JEEP FOR 6 DAYS AND SAID IT WAS A MAP SENSOR ON THE MANIFOLD. GOT THE JEEP BACK AND BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, IT QUIT. A COUPLE TRIES AND IT RESTARTED. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE DOOR HANDLES WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND PROVIDED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN, BUT THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,000.
I INITIALLY PURCHASED THIS JEEP AT 45,000 MILES. IT NOW HAS 98,000 MILES. THIS ISSUE HAS NOW HAPPENED AT LEAST 5 TIMES IN THIS TIME SPAN. THE FIRST FEW TIMES I THOUGHT IT MAY BE JUST A COINCIDENCE BUT NOW IT IS STARTING TO SCARE ME THAT THERE COULD BE AN ISSUE. BECAUSE IT CAN NOT BE REPLICATED AT THE MECHANIC,S NO ONE CAN PINPOINT WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE. THE JEEP WILL JUST DIE SPONTANEOUSLY. THERE IS NO WARNING THAT IT IS COMING. LUCKILY I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN GOING SLOW THROUGH A PARKING LOT WITH NO OTHER CARS IN MY WAY. I AM ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR TO A STOP AND THEN RESTART IT. THIS PAST WEEK I BECAME MORE NERVOUS HOWEVER AS IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN FROM A MAJOR STREET ON TO A RESIDENTIAL STREET. I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE RESIDENTIAL ROAD WHILE TURNING HOWEVER, IF THERE HAD BEEN CARS ON THE STREET I WAS MAKING THE LEFT TOO OR I HAD NOT GIVEN MORE TIME FOR THE CARS COMING AT ME DURING THE TURN THIS COULD HAVE EQUALED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I AM SEEING THROUGH MY RESEARCH THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS. *TR
DRIVER SIDE INTERIOR DOOR TRIM BEHIND THE DOOR HANDLE HAS BROKEN AWAY. WITHOUT THE TRIM THE DOOR HANDLE DOES NOT REMAIN IN THE CORRECT POSITION. DOOR HANDLE HAS TO BE SET BACK INTO PROPER POSITION BEFORE DOOR CAN BE OPENED. THIS IS CONCERNING WHEN I CONSIDER EXITING THE VEHICLE QUICKLY IN AN EMERGENCY. ALSO THE HANDLE/TRIM CONDITION IS DETERIORATING AND IT WON'T BE LONG BEFORE THE HANDLE FAILS COMPLETELY. *TR
MY DASHBOARD LIGHT WAS FLASHING AND CLICKING MANY TIME FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES THIS IS THE 4 TIMES THIS HAPPEN, I TOOK MY CAR 3 TIMES BEFORE TO THE DEALER AND THEY DO NOT FINE ANYTHING IN MY CAR AND THIS PROBLEM STARTED AT BEGINNING THESE YEAR AND MY CARD JUST HAVE 68,564 MILES. I LEFT MY CAR LAST SATURDAY 08/28/11 AND THEY TOLD ME IS NOT ANY THING IN THE COMPUTER, I SAW ONLINE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ON THE INTERNET.
