THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 6 TIMES IN 6 YEARS. THIS LATEST TIME CHRYSLER REFUSED TO HONOR THE WARRANTY. THE DEALER, WHO IS OUT OF BUSINESS DUE BECAUSE OF CHRYSLER SHUTTING THEM DOWN, WAS TO NOTIFY US OF AN INSPECTION WHEN IT CAME DUE. ALL THE OTHER DEALER I SPOKE TO CONFIRMED THIS, HOWEVER WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED. THE REPAIRS WERE $1065 AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN UNDER WARRANTY PER THE DEALER WHICH DID THE REPAIRS. CHRYSLER HAS RETROACTIVELY CHARGED OUR WARRANTY AS WELL FROM LIFETIME TO 3 YEARS, EVEN THOUGHT WARRANTY WORK WAS DONE IN THE SAME YEAR. WE HAVE A BOOK THAT SAYS LIFETIME AND SHOULD BE COVERED AFTER INSPECTION. THE DEALER WHICH DID THE REPAIRS HAD NO ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE OF APPROVING THE INSPECTION, CHRYSLER REFUSE TO DISCUSS WITH THE DEALER OR DISCUSS ANY FURTHER. YOU HAVE A SERVICE LIGHT FOR ALL SERVICES ON THE VEHICLE SO YOU DON'T FORGET, BUT YOU HAVE A 30 DAY INSPECTION WINDOW WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR NOTIFICATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY FAIL TO START. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, BATTERY, STARTER AND THE ALTERNATOR, BUT THE REPAIRS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER TOLD THEM THAT THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ENGINE SHUTS OFF WITH NO INDICATION OF WHY. NO STORED COMPUTER CODE. ENGINE LOSES ALL POWER AND DIES. MUST STOP VEHICLE THEN SHUT IGNITION AND RESTART. TRUCK WOULD START THEN DIE .. THAT HAPPENED TEN TIMES.. AND FINALLY STARTED. GAS TANK WAS THREE QUARTERS FILLED AND WEATHER WAS GOOD. BATTERY IS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER WITH PROPER VOLTAGE AND CHARGING SYSTEM IS IN WORKING ORDER. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AS A NEW UNIT. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER HARNESS AS THEY SAID IT HAD A BAD CONNECTOR. BUT THE PROBLEM IS NOW BACK AND I FEEL A LOSS OF CONTROL RESULTING IN CRASH AND OR DEATH MAY RESULT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE EXPERIENCED LOW VISIBILITY BECAUSE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD NOT PROPERLY CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL SHE NOTICED AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WOULD SWAY WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.

I AM NOT ABLE TO SHIFT THE TRANSFER CASE INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE LOW RANGE OR NEUTRAL AFTER THE SAFETY RECALL REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. *TR
VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO 4WD LOW BY ITSELF WHILE DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT. I PARKED THE JEEP IN A PARKING SPACE, AND AFTER PLACING THE TRANSMISSION SELECTOR IN PARK, THE JEEP STARTED ROLLING. I HAD TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE TO KEEP IT FROM ROLLING OUT OF THE SPACE. THE REPAIR SHOP REPLACED THE TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR AND HARNESS DUE TO THE TRANSFER CASE SHIFTING IN AND OUT OF 4WD, AND HAVING NO PARK, WHICH CAUSED IT TO ROLL. I PAID TO HAVE THIS REPAIR WORK DONE, JUST PRIOR TO JEEP ISSUING RECALL N23. JEEP HAS REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THIS REPAIR. ON THREE OCCASIONS, I HAVE EXPLAINED TO THE REIMBURSEMENT DEPT, THAT MY VEHICLE ROLLED OUT OF IT'S PARKING SPACE AND SHIFTED IN AND OUT OF 4WD AND NEUTRAL ON ITS OWN. CHRYSLER CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE REFUSES TO REIMBURSE PER THE STATED LANGUAGE IN THEIR OWN RECALL. I HAVE SENT CHRYSLER ALL THE REQUIRED REPAIR DOCUMENTS AND RECEIPTS.

THE CONTACT NOTIFIED BOTH THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT YET IMPLEMENTED A PLAN TO DETER THE FAILURE. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V567000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED FOR REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HEMI OVERLAND STALLED ON STREET TWICE. ATTEMPTING TO BACK INTO A SPOT AND IT STALLED TWICE, BLOCKING A LANE OF TRAFFIC. HAD TO PUT IN PARK, PULL KEY OUT, PUT KEY BACK IN TO RESTART. LUCKILY NOBODY WAS DRIVING THE POSTED 35MPH SPEED LIMIT SO I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY FOB MALFUNCTIONED, PREVENTING HIM FROM UNLOCKING AND LOCKING THE DOORS. THE FAILURE ALSO PREVENTED THE CONTACT FROM USING THE AUTOMATIC STARTER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN VERIFIED THE FAILURE AND ADVISED HIM TO CONTACT THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,520.
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND SHUT DOWN. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE AND RESTART THE CAR TO CONTINUE. I'VE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE DOZENS OF TIMES AND I FEAR THAT ONE DAY IT WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHEN IT SHUTS DOWN ON ME. THE DEALER SEEMS TO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT AND I'M SCARED THAT I'LL GET HURT DRIVING THE CAR. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE JEEP IT DIES, WE COULD BE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 55/60 MILES PER HOUR AND THE JEEP WILL DIE, WE COULD BE DRIVING LOCALLY AT 20 MILES PER HOUR AND THE JEEP JUST DIES -- WE HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER MANY TIMES REGARDING THE PROBLEM BUT NOTHING IS DONE -- THEY KEEP ASKING US TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT NOTHING SHOWS UP -- WHEN THE JEEP DIES THERE IS NO INDICATION THAT ANYTHING IS WRONG -- NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, JUST THE RPM DROPS -- WE ARE WORRIED FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR FAMILY THAT WHILE DRIVING ON AN HIGHWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE JEEP DIES THAT SOMEONE HITS US FROM BEHIND AND CAUSES A MAJOR ACCIDENT OR WORSE -- WE HAVE TOLD CHRYSLER WE WOULD PAY FOR ANY WORK THAT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AS LONG AS THEY CAN FIX THE PROBLEM -- AFTER THAT STATEMENT THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED TO ANY FURTHER CORRESPONDENCE. *TR

JEEP STALLS WHEN TRAVELING. MOSTLY HAS OCCURRED WHEN YOU ARE SLOWING DOWN FOR A STOP LIGHT BUT DID STALL ONCE AT SPEED ON THE WEST SIDE HIGHWAY IN NEW YORK CITY. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 10 TIMES AND HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES WITH NO FIX IN SIGHT. THE DEALERSHIP CAN NOT FIND WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I HAVE CALLED JEEP AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ANY HELP. THIS PROBLEM IS AFFECTING A LOT OF JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AS IT IS WELL WRITTEN ON THE INTERNET FORUMS. A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH ON JEEP STALL OR HEMI STALL REVEALS MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. *TR
MY SON HIT A TREE AND SPLIT IT IN HALF, THEN TOOK OUT A 100FT LAMP POST AND THEN CRASHED INTO A GUARD RAIL AND NOT ONE AIRBAG WENT OFF! *TR
IN OCT. 2012 THE CAR WOULD NOT START. NO CLICK NO NOTHING. HOWEVER, THE LIGHTS, RADIO, ETC. STILL WORKED. IF YOU WAITED ABOUT 15 TO 60 MINUTES IT WOULD THEN START. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND THEY REPLACED THE STARTER. IT RAN FINE UNTIL APRIL 2013. THEN ONCE AGAIN IT IS DOING THE EXACT SAME THING. NOW THE $638.00 PLUS THE COST I AM INCURRING FOR RENTAL CAR. I PURCHASED THE WRAP WARRANTY AND THEY TELL ME THAT BECAUSE IT IS ATTACHED TO THE BATTERY CABLE IT IS NOT COVERED. I HAVE READ ALL OVER THE INTERNET OF HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS ALL RELATED TO THIS WIRING HARNESS. I AM NOT A MECHANIC BUT I WOULD THINK THAT THIS COULD CAUSE A FIRE. REGARDLESS, JEEP NEEDS TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES. *TR
VEHICLE STOPS RUNNING WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING. THIS CAN HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED. LOSE ENGINE, LIGHTS, BRAKES, STEERING, AND AIR BAGS. I NO LONGER FEEL I CAN SAFELY OPERATE THIS VEHICLE ON A HIGHWAY WITH MULTIPLE LANES. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO REPLACE THE PART(S) AT THEIR COST. I HAVE HAD MY JEEP GC LOCKUP. THIS HAPPENED 8 TIMES SINCE LATE OCT. 2012. THE CONDITIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS. THE ENGINE STOPS, I HAVE NO CONTROL, NO BRAKES OR STEERING. 2 TIMES I WAS DRIVING ONE OF THE TWO I RAN INTO A POST. THIS PUT A BIG DENT AND SCRATCH ON MY CAR. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS IN A PARKING LOT. IN ORDER FOR ME TO GET THE CAR STATED I HAD TO FORCE THE KEY TO MOVE. I CALLED CHRYSLER 3 TIMES. THEY PUT ME ON THE RUSH LIST. THIS WAS OVER A YEAR OR 2 AGO. THEY WON' EVEN TALK TO ME ANYMORE. ONCE I WAS DOING 70 MPH ON THE EXPRESSWAY. THE ENGINE JUST STOPPED AND I HAD NO CONTROL OTHER THAN BRAKING, BUT THERE WAS NO BRAKING ASSIST. I GOT A RECALL LETTER FROM CHRYSLER ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO. AND STILL NOTING WHAT IS GOING ON?
WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE THE GAUGES STARTED TO GO UP AND DOWN, THE RADIO WENT ON AND OFF, THE TURN SIGNALS WERE INTERRUPTED, ALL THE IDIOT LIGHTS CAME ON AND WENT OUT LEAVING THE ENGINE LIGHT ON. I CALLED MY GARAGE AND FOUND OUT THE FRONT CONTROL MODULAR IS GOING. THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2008'S BUT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED DUE TO MANUFACTURE DATE. MY VEHICLE IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD AND WAS USED PREVIOUSLY BY DIAMOND CHRYSLER. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY RECALLS. ACCORDING TO THEM MY VEHICLE IS CLEAN. NOW I WILL HAVE TO PAY CLOSE TO $1,000.00 TO GET IT FIXED. IF A RECALL GOES OUT IT SHOULD GO OUT TO ALL VEHICLES IN CASE ONE SUCH AS MY VEHICLE GETS MISSED. *TR
THE MOVING VEHICLE INADVERTENTLY STALLS. THE STALL HAS MOSTLY OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OF 70-75 MPH, AS WELL AS ON-RAMPS AND OFF-RAMPS. THE FREQUENCY OF OCCURRENCE IS APPROXIMATELY (3-4) TIMES PER MONTH. WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLS I HAVE TO QUICKLY PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND RESTART THE ENGINE. FORTUNATELY THE ENGINE RESTARTS IMMEDIATELY AND I AM ABLE TO RESUME DRIVING. THE PROBLEM WAS REPORTED TO A LOCAL (RI) DEALERSHIP, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM/DEFECT. I AM APPREHENSIVE ABOUT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, AND I AM A POLICE OFFICER WITH EXTENSIVE TRAINING. I WILL NOT ALLOW MY WIFE TO OPERATE THIS VEHICLE. *TR
THE ENGINE STALLS INTERMITTENTLY FROM TIME TO TIME SHUTTING THE CAR DOWN. IT USUALLY HAPPENS WHILE COMING TO A STOP OR AT REST. IN SEPTEMBER OF 2012 IT HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY GOING AT 65 MPH AND I HAD TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE CURB TO RESTART IT. IT ALWAYS RESTARTS EASILY. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY CAN NOT FIGURE IT OUT. *TR
STOPPED AT ROADSIDE STAND. TRIED TO RESTART, NO DASHBOARD LIGHTS, NO IGNITION ALL WINDOWS DOWN INOPERABLE, TOWED TO JEEP DEALER. IT IS A FAULTY WIRELESS IGNITION CODE. THE RECEIVER IN THE SYSTEM THAT CHECKS FOR THE CORRECT KEY FOB.THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO PUT THE OCCUPANTS IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION. IT SEEMS THIS IS A NATIONWIDE PROBLEM, BECAUSE THE PART MAY BE IN RE-ENGINEERING AND WON'T BE AVAILABLE FOR 1- 2 MONTHS! ONE AFTERMARKET SUPPLIER TOLD ME THERE ARE 300 OF THESE PARTS ON BACK ORDER. SOUND LIKE A RECALL TO ME. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE DIESEL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE OIL INTAKE TUBE WAS LEAKING OIL INTO THE INTAKE AIR MANIFOLD AND GOING INTO THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND THE AIR INTAKE HOSE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO LODGED A COMPLAINT FOR THE CONTACT AND OFFERED TO PAY FOR ONE THIRD OF THE REPAIR COSTS. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,726.
MY JEEP TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAD TO PUT THE JEEP IN NEUTRAL AND RESTART IT. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 9 OR 10 TIMES. IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY AND INFREQUENTLY. NOT SURE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS BUT IT IS DEFINITELY SCARY WHEN IT HAPPENS. ALSO THE KEY FELL OUT OF THE IGNITION ONCE, THE CAR REMAINED RUNNING. *TR
8/8/12 DRIVING FROM TEMPLE TX TO TUNICA MS (STOPPING THERE BEFORE CONTINUING ON TO INDIANAPOLIS, IN). CAR GAVE NO ISSUES/INDICATIONS OF TROUBLE. 8/9/12 CAR WOULD BARELY GO 10 MILES PER HOUR LEAVING THE HOTEL, WOULD STOP FORWARD PROGRESS OF ANY KIND IF I STOPPED, HAD TO PUT IN PARK, TURN OFF CAR AND TURN ON AGAIN. HAD TO CROSS 4 LANE HIGHWAY, BUT COULD NOT GET CAR TO MOVE FORWARD FAST ENOUGH TO CLEAR ALL 4 LANES AND MIDDLE DIVIDER. TOOK IT IN 2 GREEN LIGHT TRIES AND PULLED INTO GAS STATION (1/2 MILE FROM HOTEL), GAVE CAR A REST, FILLED GAS AND SAME PROBLEM WHEN STARTED AGAIN. HAD TO CALL TOW TRUCK AND BRING TO LOCAL JEEP DEALER, 7 HOURS WAITING AT DEALER TO BE TOLD WE HAD AN EARLY MAJOR TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND IT WOULD BE 8/13 BEFORE IT WOULD BE READY. RENTED A CAR TO CONTINUE OUR VACATION. $3,934.73, TRANSMISSION REPAIRED, FAILURE OCCURRED AT 41,138 MILES, CHRYSLER ADMITS IT IS AN EARLY FAILURE (AND STATES WE ARE OUT OF ALL WARRANTIES), MS DEALER STATES EARLY FAILURE AND POWERTRAIN SHOULD BE COVERED, CONTACT CHRYSLER WHEN WE GET HOME AND LOCAL DEALER HERE STATES 5/50000 ON POWERTRAIN. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO REIMBURSE MORE THAN $1500 WHICH WE HAVE NOT ACCEPTED AND REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE 5 YEAR/50,000 MILE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS THE KEY GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND THE DEALER REPLACED AN IGNITION COMPONENT. AFTER THAT WAS REPLACED ON THREE OCCASIONS THE ENGINE TURNED OFF FOR NOW APPARENT REASON. JEEP COULD NOT DETERMINE WHY AND AT THAT POINT I PURCHASED A NEW CAR. I AM REPORTING THIS NOW AFTER HEARING ABOUT THE RECALL FOR OTHER VEHICLES WHICH TURNED OFF FOR NO REASON AND HAD CAUSED INJURY OR DEATH. ENOUGH ISSUES THAT A CLASS ACTION SUIT IN NEW JERSEY FOR THIS EXACT MATTER IS IN PROCESS. FAULTY SUNROOF REAR DRAIN TUBES BECOME PINCHED, LOOPED, OR OTHERWISE UNABLE TO DRAIN AWAY WATER. WHEN WATER COMES FORWARD (AS IN BRAKING ON THE FREEWAY AND NARROWLY AVERTING AN ACCIDENT) WATER COMES DOWN AND THROUGH THE A PILLARS AND OVERHEAD CONSOLE, AND OTHER AREAS OF HEADLINER. A BIT STARTLING WHEN TRAVELING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY. AFTER READING ABOUT THE COUNTLESS STORIES OF OTHER OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING, I BEGAN CONTACTING DEALERSHIPS INCLUDING THE OUT OF AREA DEALERSHIP WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT USED IN DECEMBER 2011. I AM WRITING TO DESCRIBE 5 INCIDENTS WITHIN THE PAST YEAR WHEN MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENED FIRST IN MAY 2012, WITH A FOLLOW UP INSTANCE IN JUNE 2012. AFTER BRINGING THIS INTO THE DEALERSHIP, WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS THE WIRELESS CONTROL MODULE MALFUNCTIONING AND THEY REPLACED. 6 MONTHS LATER, VEHICLE SHUT OFF AGAIN WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT CAUSE. VEHICLE SHUT OFF AGAIN OCTOBER 2013 WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OF ROUGHLY 20 MPH, FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER SHUT DOWN AT 70 MPH IN LATE OCTOBER 2013. I BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE INTO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP, WHO TOLD ME THAT THEY BELIEVED THIS WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE FRONT CONTROL MODULE (AFTER I TOLD THEM THE FIX TO THE WIRELESS CONTROL MODULE DID NOT WORK). DEALERSHIP ALSO ADVISED THAT A RECALL ON THE FRONT CONTROL MODULE FOR ISSUES EXACTLY AS I DESCRIBED WAS IN PLACE FOR 2008 GRAND CHEROKEES, BUT NOT MY VEHICLE IN PARTICULAR. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION WITH CHRYSLER, VEHICLES MANUFACTURED DEC 4 2007 - DEC 11 2007 WERE IMPACTED BY THIS RECALL. MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED DEC 3RD. CHRYSLER REFUSED TO COVER THIS UNDER THE RECALL BUT AGREED TO PICK UP THE MAJORITY OF THE REPAIR COST. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS ISSUE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS - I COULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT ANY OF THE FIVE TIMES THAT MY CAR SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT MY CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY THIS RECALL BUT WAS NOT. IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEMS - I AM NOW USING MY THIRD IGNITION SWITCH. THE FIRST ONE FAILED INSTANTLY, SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED THIS USED VEHICLE. I PARKED THE CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY AND WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART IT THE SWITCH WOULD NOT READ AND ACCEPT MY KEY FOB. THEREFORE IT WOULD NOT START THE ENGINE. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALER FOR A REPLACEMENT SWITCH AND PROGRAMMING. THE SECOND FAILED (APPROXIMATELY A YEAR LATER) INTERMITTENTLY WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY. WHEN I WOULD TURN THE KEY FOB TO START THE CAR AND THEN RELEASE THE KEY TO LET IT RETURN TO THE "ON" POSITION THE ENGINE WOULD TURN OFF. SOMETIMES IT WOULD STOP IMMEDIATELY, BUT THERE WERE OTHER OCCASIONS THAT IT WOULD TURN OFF AFTER I STARTED DRIVING. THE THIRD SWITCH IS NOW STILL WORKING BUT IS OPERATION IS NOT AS SMOOTH AS IT WAS ORIGINALLY. THIS IS THE CONDITION THAT PRECEDED THE FAILURE OF THE SECOND SWITCH. I'VE BEEN DRIVING FOR ALMOST FIFTY YEARS AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED FAILURES AS I JUST DESCRIBED. THIS IS MORE THAN AN EXPENSE AND INCONVENIENCE. COULD HAVE EASILY BROKEN OFF WHEN DRIVING JUST DUE TO VIBRATION AND CAUSED A SUDDEN LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE. I STARTED THE JEEP AND TRAVELED NORMALLY FOR ABOUT A THIRD OF A MILE ON LOCAL STREETS. THE PROBLEM STARTED WHEN I TURNED ONTO A COLLECTOR STREET FROM A LOCAL STREET APPLYING FULL THROTTLE. WHEN I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE THROTTLE PEDAL THE JEEP KEPT ACCELERATING. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL WARNING LIGHT WENT ON. I STOPPED THE CAR BY APPLYING THE BRAKE AND PUTTING THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV AT ABOUT 4000 RPM WITH THE JEEP STOPPED. I TURNED OFF THE JEEP AND CHECKED THE POSITION OF THE CARPET PROTECTOR TO MAKE SURE IT WAS NOT INTERFERING WITH THE ACCELERATOR. IT WAS NOT IN A POSITION WHERE IT COULD OVERLAP THE THROTTLE. I ALSO CHECKED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND FOUND IT OPERATING NORMALLY IN TERMS OF POSITION AND ACTION. I TURNED THE ENGINE BACK ON AND THE JEEP REACTED NORMALLY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP. DEALER NOT ABLE TO REPLICATED BUT REPORTED ERROR MESSAGE THAT BOTH BRAKES AND ACCELERATOR WERE BOTH DEPRESSED. ALSO REPORTED THAT CARPET WAS NOT INVOLVED. *TR *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE SHIFT ASSEMBLY INDICATING THAT THE SHIFT ASSEMBLY WAS NOT RELEASING FROM THE SOLENOID. THE CONTACT TURNED THE KEY INTO AN OFF POSITION IN PARK AND TURNED IT ON. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V567000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH HAVING MY JEEP RETURNED TO ME WITHOUT IDENTIFYING SOLUTION. MECHANIC'S BEST GUESS WAS THAT HE COULD REPLACE POWER MODULE - TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE WAS WHAT MECHANIC REPLACED. WELL, JEEP STOPPED FIVE ADDITIONAL TIMES IN LAST 21 DAYS. FOUR OUT OF FIVE TIMES, VEHICLE SHUT DOWN ON A SLIGHT DECLINE (NEIGHBORHOOD DIP OR EXITING GAS STATION). VEHICLE DID START IMMEDIATELY AFTER IT CAME TO A STOP. DEALERSHIP STILL CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. FRUSTRATED WITH NOT HAVING MY PRIMARY FAMILY VEHICLE AVAILABLE. *KB

THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE REGULAR SERIES GRAND CHEROKEE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V059000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , VISIBILITY). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT.
