THERE IS A RECALL (#89275) FOR IMPROPERLY MANUFACTURED FRONT CONTROL MODULES ON CERTAIN 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES. I OWN ONE SUCH MAKE AND MODEL (BOUGHT IT USED IN JUNE 2011), AND AM BEING TOLD THAT I MAY HAVE TO REPLACE MY FRONT CONTROL MODULE BY A SERVICE WRITER AT THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER. IT WOULD NOT START THIS MORNING AT ALL. SINCE AUGUST THERE HAS BEEN INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS IN THE AUTOMATIC START, NAVIGATION SYSTEM AND POWER SEAT SETTINGS, AND PARKING ASSIST, TOO. I AM BEING TOLD SEPARATELY BY THE JEEP NATIONAL RECALL CENTER THAT THE RECALL IS VIN-SPECIFIC AND DOES NOT IMPACT MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE. IS THIS A LEGITIMATE EXPLANATION OF FACT BY JEEP? *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 80 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CONTACT HAD TO PULL OVER TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING BUT THE TEST RESULT DID NOT IDENTIFY A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE HE WAS STOPPED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE WOULD SUCCESSFULLY RESTART AFTER STALLING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE MAY BE DUE TO THE BATTERY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V059000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED IN 2008. ALMOST FROM THE VERY BEGINNING I'VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE & HAD BEEN GOING BACK & FORTH TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ONE REPAIR AFTER THE OTHER. ALTHOUGH THE PREVIOUS ISSUES WERE SERIOUS, THEY DID NOT RISE TO THE LEVEL OF BEING A HEALTH/SAFETY HAZARD AS MY CURRENT PROBLEM DOES. IN 2011, I STARTED EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL FAILURE; SPECIFICALLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD JUST STOP NO MATTER WHETHER I WAS DRIVING 70 ON THE HWY OR 30 IN A NEIGHBORHOOD. THE VEHICLE WOULD TURN OFF WITHOUT WARNING & I WOULD BE LEFT TRYING (W/OUT ANY POWER STEERING) TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH WHATEVER MOMENTUM WAS LEFT. ONCE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURNED THE IGNITION TO THE OFF POSITION & WAIT A FEW SECONDS. I WOULD THEN START THE VEHICLE RIGHT UP AS IF NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. I HAVE TAKEN THE JEEP IN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. I'VE GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE EACH TIME IT STOPS, I CALL THE DEALER SERVICE DEPT JUST SO THE RECORD WOULD SHOW THAT I CALLED, REPORTED THE PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED AGAIN & ALSO TO VENT MY FRUSTRATION OF THIS RECURRING PROBLEM. MY CONCERNS: 1) THE STALLING IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY 2) THE PROBLEM CAN'T BE DUPLICATED ON CUE 3) I CAN'T GET MORE THAN A CONDESCENDING, WHAT DO YOU WANT TONE FROM MGMT AT THE DEALERSHIP & 4) THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ANY SENSE OF URGENCY FROM ANYONE OTHER THAN MYSELF . MY QUESTIONS: DOES THERE REALLY HAVE TO BE SOME TYPE OF ACCIDENT OR FATALITY BEFORE SOMEONE ACTUALLY TRIES TO FIND OUT WHY THIS IS HAPPENING & FIX IT? WHY AREN'T THE SERVICE PEOPLE EQUIPPED TO DO MORE THAN JUST SPEAK TO THE VEHICLE OWNER AS IF WE ARE STUPID & LIKE I'M JUST MAKING UP STORIES. VEHICLE WOULD DIE UNEXPECTEDLY AND NOT RESTART UNTIL TRANSMISSION WAS PUT IN PARK POSITION. SEVERAL INCIDENTS IE STOPPED AT LIGHT, ACCELERATION TO TURNPIKE, SLOW STREET DRIVING THIS WOULD DISABLE STEERING AND CREATE DIFFICULT BRAKING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED AFTER USING HER WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND TURNING THEM OFF THEY BECAME JAMMED OBSTRUCTING THE DRIVERS VIEW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED HIM THAT THE CONTROL MODULE ON THE WIPER BOARD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.
I HAVE HAD AN ON GOING ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH MY 08 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHEN I AM DRIVING MY JEEP AT VARIOUS SPEEDS IT GOES OFF. IT HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. ON THE INTERSTATE AT 55 MILES PER HOUR IT HAS GONE DEAD AT NIGHT AND MY HEADLIGHTS, DASH AND STEERING ALL GOES OUT. I HAVE HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND RESTART THE CAR. IT HAS GONE OFF MORE FREQUENTLY JUST DRIVING AROUND TOWN, NO WARNING HAPPENS IT JUST DIES. I HAVE HAD MY CAR IN THE SHOP SEVERAL TIMES AND THEIR TESTS SHOW NOTHING WRONG AND WHEN THEY DRIVE IT "THEY SAY IT DOES NOT DIE ON THEM". IT IS IN THE SHOP NOW AGAIN AND HAS NOT GONE OFF ON THEM. THEY PUT A RECORDER ON MY CAR AND LET ME DRIVE IT AND SAID IF IT DIED TO PUSH THE RECORDER BUTTON AND IT WOULD RECORD THE INCIDENT AND THEY WOULD KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG. IT WENT OFF 6 TIMES IN TWO DAYS AND I PUSHED THE BUTTON 6 TIMES. THEY SAID THEY CHECKED THE RECORDER AND IT SHOWED NO INCIDENTS!!!! I KNOW THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN, I GUESS NO ONE WILL DO ANYTHING UNTIL THERE IS A FATALITY. I UNDERSTAND MY VIN# IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL FOR THE 2008 JEEP ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT, HEAD LIGHTS, RADIO AND THE DRIVER SEAT FAILED TO OPERATE PROPERLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,379.
MY ENGINE HAS SHUT DOWN AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM POWERED DOWN WHILE DRIVING MANY TIMES (MORE THAN 60 TIMES IN THE LAST 3 YEARS). THIS HAS HAPPENED AT MANY SPEEDS BETWEEN 0 (STANDING STILL) AND 60 MPH. WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN, STEERING BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT AND BRAKES WORK TO A MINIMUM. I'VE TAKEN MY GRAND CHEROKEE TO THE JEEP AGENCY MANY TIMES, AND THEY KEEP SAYING THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT. ONLY ONCE THEY TOLD ME IT WAS AN OXYGEN CENSORED, WHICH THEY CHANGED, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED CONSTANTLY. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THE VEHICLE CAN BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AT WHICH SPEEDS I BOUGHT MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 2008 IN MEXICO CITY. *TR

THE COIL PACKS AND THE FINAL DRIVE CONTROL MODULE WERE REPLACED IN ADDITION TO A SOFTWARE UPDATE BEING PERFORMED BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,500.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000.

WHILE BRAKING GOING INTO A RIGHT-HAND-CORNER THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE VEHICLE CAME TO AN IMMEDIATE COMPLETE STOP ON THE ROAD. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO CAR FOLLOWING ME AS OTHERWISE THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A DANGEROUS REAR-END COLLISION. COULD NOT RESTART THE VEHICLE. IT WAS TAKEN BY TRUCK TO THE JEEP GARAGE. A FUSE CONNECTED TO MORE THAN 30 APPLICATIONS HAD BLOWN. WHEN REPLACED THE CAR FUNCTIONED. GARAGE SPENT 2 DAYS SEARCHING BUT COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE FUSE . CHARGED ME 300 USD. TWO DAYS LATER THE ENGINE STALLED AGAIN WHILE BRAKING IN A RIGHT-HAND-CORNER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOW BEEN IN THE GARAGE FOR 2 DAYS FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND FURTHER CHECKS. NO RESOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM HAS YET BEEN FOUND. THE VEHICLE IS 2 YEARS, 7 MONTHS OLD SO THE REPAIR IS NOT COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURES WARRANTY. *TR

ON MANY OCCASIONS BOTH MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE SMELLED GASOLINE WHEN GETTING INTO THE CAR AS WELL AS WHEN DRIVING THE CAR. THIS IS NOT AFTER FUELING THE CAR WHEN THERE MAY BE A SMELL OF GASOLINE. ITS WHEN IT HAS BEEN SITTING OR JUST DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. WE HAVE NOT NOTICED A LEAK. I HAVE SEEN ON THE NEWS TODAY THAT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY IS WANTING A RECALL OF CERTAIN MODEL JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE'S BUT THE CORPORATION IS NOT PLANNING TO MOVE FORWARD WITH RECALLS. ALTHOUGH MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IS A 2008 MODEL AND NOT ON THE LIST OF YEAR MODELS, THIS ISSUE WITH FUEL LEAKAGE AND DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WITH REAR END CRASHES CONCERNS ME SINCE WE HAVE AND CONTINUE TO SMELL GASOLINE WHEN GETTING INTO AND DRIVING OUR CAR. CAN YOU PLEASE DOCUMENT THIS AND PROVIDE ME MORE SPECIFICS AS TO WHY AND HOW THE LEAK MAY BE OCCURRING AND IF THERE IS ANY ACTION I NEED TO TAKE TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. *TR

WHEN THE CONTACT USED THE SPARE TIRE THERE WAS NO TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM INCLUDED. THE DEALER STATED THAT EVEN THOUGH IT STATED THAT THE SPARE HAD A MONITORING SYSTEM IN THE MANUAL,THEY DO NOT PUT THEM IN THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 44,000. WHEN I FINALLY SPOKE TO CORPERATE, BOTH CORPORATE MANAGERS WERE RUDE AND CONDESCENDING, DEALERS ALL GOING OUT OF BUSINESS LOCALLY IN NJ BUT NO WILL CONFIRM THAT. LOTS ARE EMPTY. I FOUND SERVICE IN ANOTHER COUNTY. HE FIXED IT. HE CLAIMS IT WAS A WIRE CONTROL MODULE AND MY KEY FOBS ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THESE ARE IDENTICAL PROBLEMS TO OTHER COMPLAINTS FILED. WHILE STUCK ON ICE IN OUR DRIVEWAY, MY WIFE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT BACKING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY TO RETRY GETTING TO THE HOUSE, SHE HAD THE 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IN PARK, I WENT TO ASSIST IN BACKING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY, SHE HOPPED OVER THE CONSOLE AND HIT THE GEARSHIFT WITH HER LEG OR FOOT THE JEEP GEARSHIFT THEN WENT FROM PARK, INTO REVERSE WITHOUT THE BRAKE BEING DEPRESSED AS IS THE DESIGN, THE JEEP RAPIDLY WENT BACKWARDS THE OPEN DOOR "SCOOPING ME TOWARD THE UNDERSIDE OF THE JEEP, I WAS ABLE TO ROLL AWAY FROM THE JEEP, MY WIFE THEN GOT INTO THE DRIVER SEAT AND PUT INTO PARK JUST BEFORE CRASHING INTO THE WOODED AREA ALONG OUR DRIVEWAY.
