THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE IN AUGUST OF 2017. THE DEALER (MILFORD AUTO GROUP-JEEP CHRYSLER DODGE RAM, 1470 BOSTON POST RD, MILFORD, CT, 06460) STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIR AND WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN JANUARY OF 2018. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT'S WIFE OWNS A 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE THE CONTACT'S WIFE WAS DRIVING, THE BATTERY INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. SUDDENLY, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE BATTERY AND THEN IT BURST INTO FLAMES. THE CONTACT DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND THE FIRE WENT OUT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A FIRE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN UNKNOWN LOCAL DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V435000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) IN THE MAIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. JEEP RECALL. I WAS NOTIFIED OF A RECALL OF THE ALTERNATOR IN AUGUST OF 2017. SINCE THEN THE DEALERS HAVE REFUSED TO REPLACE IT BECAUSE REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE RECALL STATED THAT A TOTAL POWER FAILURE COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY. I DRIVE HIGH SPEED FREEWAYS AND INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS FREQUENTLY AND AM VERY CONCERNED FOR MY FAMILY, GRANDCHILDREN, AND MYSELF. PLEASE HELP.

MY CAR TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING DIFFERNT TIMES OF THE DAY COULD BE IN THE MORNING OR COULD BE DURING THE DAY. IT JUST SHUTS OFF WITH NO SIGN THE LIGHTS ARE ON IN THE FRONT THE RADIO IS STILL ON ITS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. SOME TIMES DOES NOT WANT TO START RANDOMLY... THIS IS MY 3RD TIME TAKING IT INTO THE DEALER WITH THIS SAME ISSUE AND THEY KEEP SAYING NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT. THIS LAST TIME I WAS ON THE FREEWAY AND IT JUST SHUT OFF. I JUST WANT THEM TO REPAIR IT. THE FIST TIME I TOOK IT IN I WANT TO SAY I WAS UNDER THE WARRANTY MILES AROUND 34 OR 36000 I AM GOING TO CONFIRM WITH THE DEALER.
ON AUG. 29 2017 MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MULLANE MOTORS IN LOCKPORT NY, FOR REPAIR. I WAS TOLD A SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG SENSOR HAD SHORTED OUT AND NEEDED REPLACING, AND SPENT $332.57 TO HAVE IT FIXED. WHEN I ARRIVED TO PICK UP MY JEEP, I WAS TOLD THAT THE SAME SENSOR WAS STILL 'SHORTING OUT' AND THAT STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE WAS TO REPLACE THE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE. I ASKED WHEN THAT COULD BE COMPLETED AND WAS TOLD THAT THE 'PART IS UNAVAILABLE,' IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM, AND THAT IT WAS UNKNOWN WHEN OR IF AT ALL THIS PART WOULD EVER BE AVAILABLE. I TELPHONED FIAT CHRYSLER CORP IN AUBURN HILLS, MI CONCERNING THIS ISSUE, AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING, THAT THE PART IS 'CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE AND ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER' WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER, AND WAS TOLD I WOULD BE CALLED BACK IN 24 TO 48 HOURS. NO ONE CALLED ME BACK. I TELEPHONED THE COMPANY AGAIN A WEEK LATER AND WAS AGAIN TOLD SOMEONE WOULD CALL ME BACK IN 24 TO 48 HOURS. IT HAS NOW BEEN A WEEK, AND I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM CHRYSLER. AT THIS TIME, MY AIRBAG LIGHT IS STILL ON, AND IT IS INDICATED IN MY OWNERS MANUAL THAT MY AIRBAGS MAY NOT FUNCTION IN A COLLISION, WHICH I FEEL MAKES MY VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
DEALERSHIP RELATED THE FOUND STEERING GEAR HAD NO FLUID, IT WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WE PARK THE CAR IN THE GARAGE AND HAVE NO LEAKS ON THE FLOOR. WHERE IS ALL THIS LEAKING FLUID GOING?
BRAKES FAILED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. VEHICLE HAD 93,260 MILES ON IT WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE JEEP DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER, AND THE PROBLEM WAS REPAIRED. THE BRAKE BOOSTER ITSELF HAD BEEN REPLACED IN A RECALL IN 2014.
IN LATE AUGUST 2017, WE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE INTERMITTENT FAILURES OF THE FUEL PUMP MANIFESTED BY DIFFICULTY STARTING THE ENGINE AND ENGINE CUTOUTS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (I.E., THE SAME ISSUES THAT REQUIRED THE R09/NHTSA 15V-115 SAFETY RECALL). WITHIN DAYS, THE ENGINE WOULD START AT ALL AND THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED. ULTIMATELY, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE EXTERNAL FUEL PUMP RELAY INSTALLED AS PART OF THE RECALL AND THE FUEL PUMP ITSELF WERE DEFECTIVE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED.*BF *TR
WHILE STOPPING AT A DRIVE-THROUGH ON MY WAY TO WORK, THE BRAKE SYSTEM EXPERIENCED AN ISSUE. I WAS AT A STOP WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL BACKED UP FROM THE FLOOR AND THE JEEP STARTED TO ROLL FORWARD. I HAD TO STAND ON THE PEDAL WITH BOTH FEET TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STOPPED. I WAS ABLE TO PARK FOR A MOMENT IN ORDER TO FIND A WAY TO GET THE VEHICLE SAFELY TO A NEARBY REPAIR SHOP. THEY IDENTIFIED THE ISSUE AS MY BRAKE BOOSTER. THIS PART WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED WITH SAFETY RECALL P14 BACK IN 2014. EITHER THE PART WAS NOT REPLACED, THE REPAIR WAS NOT EFFECTIVE, OR THE REPLACEMENT WAS ALSO DEFECTIVE SO AS TO CAUSE THE SAME FAILURE FOR MY JEEP NOW. ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND MY SECOND CATASTROPHIC SYSTEM FAILURE IN AS MANY MONTHS. SO GLAD I WAS NOT STILL ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED OR THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT!

THE DRIVER SAW FLAMES UNDER THE HOOD AND THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. NEITHER A POLICE REPORT NOR A FIRE REPORT WERE FILED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE CONTACTED (WESTBURY DODGE IN WESTBURY, NY, 855-477-5588) AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE THE INTERSTATE MY BATTERY LIGHT WENT ON A FEW MINUTES LATER AN IMAGE OF A LIGHTNING BOLT HIT THE BATTERY AND I LOST COMPLETE POWER. TOOK IT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP TOOK OVER A WEEK TO TELL ME ITS THE PCM AND THAT IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ALTERNATOR. TODAY I CAN PICK UP THE CAR. THEY DATED THAT I CAN PICK UP THE CAR AND THEN THEY TOLD ME MY BATTERY IS VERY VERY WEEK . THEY ALSO ASSURED ME THAT ONE THINGS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE OTHER WHICH IS TOTAL BULL,.
COMPLETE ELECTRICAL POWER FAILURE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY 70 MPH..NO PCM AS PER THE MECHANIC FRIED. BATTERY AND PCM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE ALTERNATOR, AS PER RECALL REPLACED.BUT STATED PCM AND BATTERY WERE UNRELATED. COST TO REPLACE PCM 912 DOLLARS , NEW BATTERY 300 DOLLARS. NOT INCLUDING COSTS FOR TOWING. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION NOT HAVING POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSTATE 476.
MY JEEP JUST CAUGHT FIRE COMING FROM THE SUN ROOF. IT STARTED SMOKING FAST AND THEN QUICK FIRE COMING DOWN FROM THE SUN ROOF. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHILE IT STARTED SMOKING. I PARKED IT AND THEN THE FLAMES STARTED COMING OUT FAST AND HARD.*BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE INSURANCE COMPANY DETERMINED THE FIRE MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY WORK DONE AT A LOCAL BODY SHOP RESULTING IN A WIRING SHORT. THE INSURANCE COMPANY FILED RECOVERY DOCUMENTS AGAINST THE COMPANY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED.*JS *TR

DURING THE INCIDENT, THE ABS AND STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEMS WERE DISABLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR WAS FAULTY AND DAMAGED THE BATTERY AND PCM, WHICH INCLUDED MELTING THE ELECTRICAL WIRING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) THAT INCLUDED 160 AMP ALTERNATORS ONLY. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.

VECHILE DOES NOT START. ENGINE STALLING AND ELECTRICAL WARNING LIGHT TURNS ON. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED.
THE ALTERNATOR WENT OUT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ON A MOUNTAIN ROAD CREATING A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION. THE VEHICLE STOPPED DEAD WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THIS RESULTED IN REPLACEMENT OF THE ALTERNATOR, BATTERY AND THE COMPUTER CHIP. TOTAL OF $2,000 PLUS TOWING. THIS VEHICLE HAS A 180 AMP ALTERNATOR AND THE SAME YEAR AND VEHICLE WITH A 160 AMP ALTERNATOR CURRENTLY HAS A RECALL BUT FOR SOME CRAZY REASON THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR.
WAS DRIVING THE CAR FINE ON THE HIGHWAY AT 50 MPH. THE LIGHTS FLICKERED AND AN EMERGENCY REPAIR NOTICE FLASHED ON THE DASH. AT THAT POINT, AN AIR SUSPENSION WARNING LIGHT AND OTHER LIGHTS CAME ON. THE CAR WENT DEAD SUDDENLY, NO LIGHTS, NO NOTHING. COMPLETE LOSS OF ELECTRICITY. WHEN I STOPPED I COULD SMELL SMOKE. WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET OUT OF THE CAR AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. DEALER SAYS THE ALTERNATOR IS DEAD AND POSSIBLY THE PCM (DRIVE TRAIN COMPUTER) IS DEAD. TOTAL REPAIRS FOR 2300.00. THEY ISSUED A SAFETY RECALL FOR THESE ALTERNATORS BUT BECAUSE THERE IS NO OPEN RECALL FOR MY CAR, THE DEALER IS NOT BUDGING. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR ALL THE ALTERNATORS 160 AND 180. MY INFANT SON WAS IN THE BACK SEAT WHEN THE CAR DIED. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR MALFUNCTIONED AND DAMAGED THE BATTERY. BOTH COMPONENTS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17B435000(ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE LOCAL DEALER (BRUBAKER DODGE IN MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA) WAS ALSO NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
WAS DRIVING AND ARRIVED AT DESTINATION ,EVERY THING WAS PERFECTLY FINE EXITED THE VEHICLE AND WAS GONE FOR ABOUT 30 MIN. ON RETURN FOUND VEHICLE COMPLETELY WITHOUT ANY ELECTRICAL POWER HAD TO BE TOWED AND FOUND OUT ALTERNATOR SHORTED OUT FRYING THE BATTERY AS WELL AS COMPUTER .I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE ARE GRAND CHEROKEES BEING RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT IT DOESN'T SEEM TO AFFECT MY VIN NUMBER EVEN THOUGH I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS VERY PROBLEM

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT DUE TO HER 180 AMP ALTERNATOR, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL STATES THAT 180 AMPS WERE INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD ESCALATE THE CASE AND HAVE A CASE MANAGER CALL HER BACK. I STARTED THE JEEP AND WAS HEADED HOME ON THE CITY STREET I HAD ONLY DRIVEN .5 MILES AND IT BEGAN TO MAKE A LOUD WHISTLING SOUND AS I PULLED INTO MY STREET. THEN THE JEEP BEGAN TO SHAKE AND DRIVE VERY ROUGH. I PARKED, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND SMELLED SMOKE WHEN I OPENED THE HOOD THE ALTERNATOR WAS SMOKING, IT SMELLED SO BAD AND TOOK OVER 20 MINUTES TO GET IT TO COOL DOWN AND KEEP IT FROM CATCHING FIRE. I HAVE LOST ALL POWER IN THE JEEP.

DEALER REPLACED BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR. MY ALTERNATOR NOT APPARENTLY PART OF ORIGINAL 160 AMP RECALL SO IT WAS NOT COVERED. $980 REPAIR BILL. CAR HAD 62,000 MI., ALWAYS SERVICE AT DEALER. CAR STALLED 2 TIMES, TOWED TO JIM CLICK JEEP IN TUCSON R09. MY FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED FOR $1284 AT ONLY 81,230 MILES. I BELIEVE THE GO AROUND FIX OF A CABLE VS REPLACING THE COMPUTER CAUSED MY FUEL PUMP TO FAIL PREMATURELY, AND I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT WHEN MY CAR STALLED 2 TIMES IN MOTION
AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, A LOUD WHINING NOISE CAME FROM WHAT WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE ALTERNATOR. THE ALTERNATOR PROBABLY SHORT CIRCUITED RESULTING IN THE DESTRUCTION OF THE WIRING SYSTEM TO INCLUDE THE VEHICLE COMPUTER SYSTEM. A BURNING ODOR WAS NOTICED FROM THE WIRING SYSTEM UNDER THE HOOD ( ENGINE COMPARTMENT). THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED REQUIRING THE VEHICLE TO BE TOWED TO THE NEAREST JEEP DEALER. THIS EPISODE HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN PARKED WITH THE DISTINCT ODOR OF BURNING. THE VEHICLE IS NOW AT THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AWAITING DIAGNOSIS.
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY, THE RED BATTERY LIGHT CAME FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE I OWNED THE VEHICLE. WITHIN MINUTES OF THE LIGHT APPEARING, THE JEEP'S AIR CONDITIONING WENT OFF, ALL WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TURNED ON (WITHOUT PROMPTING THEM). ALL THREE OF THESE THINGS HAPPENED WITHIN SECONDS OF EACH OTHER SO I TRIED TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY BUT THE JEEP LOST ALL POWER AND STALLED IN THE RIGHT LANE OF THE HIGHWAY. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY ZERO POWER SO I WAS UNABLE TO TURN MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON OR PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL TO ROLL TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE (SEE ATTACHED PICTURE). I THEN HAD TO EXIT THE JEEP INTO ONCOMING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC IN THE LEFT LANE AND LUCKILY MADE IT SAFETY TO THE SHOULDER WHERE I CALLED 911 AND TRIPLE A FOR A TOW. THE JEEP WAS TOWED TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND THAT HE HAD TO UNPLUG IT FROM THE BATTERY SINCE IT WAS STILL PRODUCING EXCESSIVE HEAT HOURS AFTER IT ARRIVED THERE. I THEN CALLED THE FCA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REFERENCED RECALL T36, SINCE THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED AS THE DESCRIPTION PROVIDED (ALTHOUGH I DID NOT HAVE ANY RECALLS ON MY VIN). THEY PUT ME IN TOUCH WITH THE LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP TO SET UP AN APPT SO I PAID FOR ANOTHER TOW THERE. THE NEXT DAY I RECEIVE A CALL FROM THE SERVICE DEPT THAT MY ALTERNATOR FAILED, WHICH DRAINED MY BATTERY, WHICH BROKE MY MODULE POWERTRAIN CONTROL COMPUTER TOTALING $2,134 IN REPAIRS. THEY CANNOT CONFIRM NOR DENY THAT MY JEEP IS PART OF RECALL T36, BUT REGARDLESS SINCE MY VIN DOES NOT HAVE ANY RECALLS ON IT, THAT I HAVE TO PAY IN FULL AND THAT IF DOWN THE ROAD THERE IS A RECALL THAT I WILL GET REIMBURSED. I THEN CALL THE FCA CUSTOMER SERVICE BACK AND THEY CHECK THEIR INTERNAL SYSTEM AND CONFIRM THAT I AM NOT PART OF RECALL T36 AND THERE ARE NO OUTSTANDING RECALLS FOR MY JEEP.
DURING MY DRIVE HOME FROM ANOTHER TOWN WHERE I WORK APPROX 30 MINUTES AWAY MY ALTERNATOR SHORTED OUT AND BLEW OUT THE BATTERY. I WAS EXTRA LUCKY AND DID NOT WRECK BUT THEN WHEN MY HUSBAND GOT THERE TO JUMP THE VEHICLE IT STARTED THE JUMPER CABLES COMPLETELY ON FIRE!!! WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE FIRE OUT AND GET IT TO A PARTS STORE. THE ALTERNATOR IS COMPLETELY BROKEN AND WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE IT BURNED WHILE THE ALTERNATOR WAS BURNING UP. YOU COULD SMELL BURNING WIRES EVEN HOURS AFTER THE INCIDENT. WHEN I CONTACTED ABOUT THE RECALL ISSUE THEY SAID MY JEEP WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE ALTERNATOR RECALL TAKING EFFECT AUGUST 24, 2017 YET MY ALTERNATOR DID EXACTLY WHAT THE EFFECTED ALTERNATORS ARE DOING THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WAS I WAS ABLE TO NOT WRECK MY VEHICLE. THEN IT ALMOST CAUSED AN EVEN WORSE ISSUE BY STARTING THINGS ON FIRE AND BURNING UP WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE IN THE VEHICLE. WHY IS MY VEHICLE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL!!!??? I WAS DRIVING ON A SMALL HIGHWAY. I INCLUDED A PHOTO OF THE JUMPER CABLES AFTER THEY WERE CAUGHT ON FIRE.
THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY IN A LEFT TURN LANE AT A INTERSECTION HAD THE ALTERNATOR LIGHT COME ON. THE JEEP THEN SUDDENLY DIED AND OMITTED A ODOR OF SOMETHING BURNING. THE JEEP WOULD NOT BUDGE AT THAT POINT AND WAS COMPLIANTLY STUCK WITH NO POWER. I COULDN'T EVEN PUSH THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE INTERSECTION BECAUSE THE WHEELS LOCK UP, ALONG WITH EVERYTHING ELSE. LUCKILY IT DID NOT CATCH ON FIRE, BUT I SMELLED SMOKE. I HAD PEOPLE YELLING AND HONKING AT ME BECAUSE I WAS IN THEIR WAY, THEY EVEN YELLED AT THE POLICE OFFICER THERE TO HELP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LICENSED CHYRSLER DEALER...FROM THERE IT WAS DIAGNOSIS WITH A SHORTED OUT ALTERNATOR, WHICH ALSO SHORTED OUT THE COMPUTER AND BATTERY. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERED THE ALTERNATOR AND COMPUTER, BUT THE BATTERY WAS NOT COVERED. THAT IS $247 TO PURCHASE THE BATTERY AND THE $100 EXTENDED INSURANCE DEDUCTIBLE. THERE IS A RECALL P60 ON THIS YEAR JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND DODGE DURANGO, BUT THAT IS THE 160 AMP ALTERNATOR, OURS HAS THE 180 AMP. THE PROBLEM I EXPERIENCED WAS EXACTLY WHAT THE RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR. I BELIEVE MY VEHICLE AND OTHERS NEED TO BE RECALLED BEFORE THEY SHORT OUT AND CATCH ON FIRE.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE CONTACT COULD PAY FOR THE REPAIRS AND THEN BE REIMBURSED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
THE ALTERNATOR ON OUR JEEP HAD THE SAME ISSUE AS THE P60 RECALL FOR THIS MODEL YEAR AND ENGINE EQUIPPED WITH THE 160 AMP ALTERNATOR. OUR VEHICLE HAS THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR AND IS NOT COVERED. MY QUESTION/COMPLAINT IS THAT IF THE CHRYSLER WARRANTY REP TOLD ME THAT SHE IS SEEING THIS ISSUE MORE AND MORE THAN WHY ISN'T THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY ALSO. WE RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE 3 HOURS LATER AND WE COULD STILL SMELL THE BURNT WIRE SMELL. OUR DEALER TRIED TO JUMP START USING A POWER PACK AND IT INSTANTLY DRAINED TWO POWER PACKS THAT CAN JUMP SEAMS FROM A DEAD BATTERY. OUR VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. NOW WE ARE WAITING TO FIND OUT WHAT OUR CHARGED WILL BE. AS I SAID EARLIER, THE CHRYSLER WARRANTY REP SAID THAT THIS IS BEING REPORTED MORE AND MORE AND SHE ADVISED ME TO FILE A COMPLAINT HOPING THAT A RECALL WILL BE STARTED DUE TO THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS THEY ARE SEEING. JEEP HAS A CURRENT RECALL FOR THE 160 AMP ALTERNATOR, BUT I HAVE THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR. I REPORTED THE ISSUE TO JEEP AND THEY WERE ABLE TO CONFIRM THAT THEY HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED AN INVESTIGATION FOR THIS ISSUE. THIS IS THE EXACT SAME FAILURE AS IS DESCRIBED IN THE 160 AMP ALTERNATOR RECALL AND THE ISSUE WAS FIXED THE SAME WAY, BY REPLACING THE ALTERNATOR. THE CONTACT CALLED CROSSMOTOR CHRYSLER JEEP AT 502-459-9900 AND WAS INFORMED THAT PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGH WAY .MY GRAND CHEROKEE STALLED THEN STOPPED.AFTER A SHORT TIME IT STARTED AGAIN AND I DROVE IT TO THE MOPAR SERVICE CENTRE OF THE DEALER. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WAS NOT RECALLED FOR DETECTIVE ALTERNATOR. SO THEY WILL REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR AND DRAINED BATTERY AT MY EXPENSE AND ALSO CHARGE FOR THE LABOUR COST. I FIND THIS VERY STRANGE AND UNJUSTIFIED. THE CAR MAYBE WAS NOT RECALLED BUT THE FAULT NOW IS EXACTLY WHAT THE RECALL WAS FOR . SO HOW COME THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE WHAT WAS ORIGINALLY RECALLED. THIS IS AGAINST THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF NHTSA. PLEASE GUIDE ME.
