SUDDEN LOSS OF ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. SMOKE, POWER BRAKE AND STEERING FAILURE, BATTERY DRAINED. VERY DANGEROUS!!
180 AMP ALTERNATOR BURNED OUT NEARLY CAUSING ENGINE FIRE. REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF ALTERNATOR, BATTERY AND PCU. SITUATION ADDRESSED BY RECALL NHTSA 14V-634 WHICH FCA SAYS NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF LARGER ALTERNATOR. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN BATTERY LIGHT ILLUMINATED. NO OTHER INDICATION OF DANGER UNTIL STOPPED. SMOKE WAS CLEARLY EMANATING FROM ALTERNATOR WHEN HOOD RAISED.
THE DRIVER SIDE ACTIVE HEADREST DEPLOYED UNPROVOKED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT MOVING OR ON WHEN THE HEADREST DEPLOYED, IT WAS STATIONARY AND PARKED IN A DRIVEWAY. THERE WAS NO WARNING THAT THE EVENT TOOK PLACE OR ANY NOTIFICATION FROM THE VEHICLE MESSAGE SYSTEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (BRUNSWICK AUTO MART LOCATED AT 3031 CENTER RD, BRUNSWICK, OH 44212; (877) 815-7437) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALTERNATOR CHRYSLER HAS A RECALL FOR ALTERNATORS FROM 2011 - 2014 BUT MY VIN IS NOT COVERED. SAME ISSUE AS THE RECALL. SUDDEN POWER LOSS, SMELL OF BURNT WIRES. TOTAL ELECTRICAL LOSS. CAR HAS 90,000 MILES ON IT. RECALL SHOULD EXTEND TO THIS ISSUE. $800 FIX

ALTERNATOR FAILED WITH NO WARNING. IT BEGAN VIOLENTLY SMOKING LIKE IT WAS ABOUT TO CATCH FIRE EVEN THOUGH IT WAS TURNING FREELY. TURNED CAR OFF AND IT WAS STILL SMOKING BADLY. GRABBED FIRE EXTINGUISHER BUT IT NEVER FLAMED UP. IN THE PROCESS, IT BURNED MY BATTERY UP ALSO. JEEP HAD A RECALL ON THE 160 AMP ALTERNATOR FOR THE SAME ISSUE BUT SAID MINE WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE IT WAS 180 AMP. I HAVE READ WHERE SEVERAL OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO FORMER DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM(HE WAS THE NEW CAR DEALER AT THE TIME), HE SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN A BATTERY THAT HOT AFTER SITTING FOR AWHILE AND COULDN'T UNDERSTAND HOW IT DIDN'T BURN UP. COST OF REPAIR WAS OVER $1000 FOR A NEW ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY
HEARD A LOUD 'BANG' UNDER THE HOOD WHILE CRUISING @ 72MPH ON A NEW HAMPSHIRE INTER-STATE. IMMEDIATELY LOST CONTROL AND CRASHED INTO A GUARD RAIL, BOUNCED BACK INTO THE HIGHWAY, HIT THE GUARD RAIL AGAIN AND WOUND UP BACKWARD INTO THE GUARD RAIL. SOME WITNESSES STATED THAT THEY SAW FIRE AND SMOKE UNDER THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. *BF *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT SMOKE EMITTED FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE THAT ORIGINATED FROM THE ALTERNATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. STANLEY WOOD IN BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,738.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE BATTERY WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND SMOKE AND A BURNING ODOR APPEARED UNDER THE HOOD. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING BEGAN TO FLICKER AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AND EVENTUALLY FAILED. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO JIM SMALLICH CHRYSLER DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER AND RADIO STILL OPERABLE, THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE. UPON RETURNING TO THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER AND RADIO STOPPED WORKING, BUT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES WERE MOVING AT SLOW SPEED. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO DRIVE, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING SLOWLY AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, SHIFTED INTO PARK, TURNED OFF, AND FAILED TO RESTART. THE VOLTAGE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A FAULTY ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY THAT NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE PARTS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE COMPUTER WAS DAMAGED AND COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE PCM NEEDED REPLACEMENT AND THERE WAS AN ALTERNATOR RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO JT CHRYSLER DODGE RAM OF LEXINGTON (LOCATED AT 4838 SUNSET BLVD, LEXINGTON, SC 29072 (803) 957-2010) FOR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V674000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,002.
WE HAVE HAD THIS JEEP GRAND CHEROKE SERVICE THREE TIMES AND BEFORE HAVING IT SERVICE, THE CAR HAS CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT WARNING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT TURN OFF WHEN PROMPTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SMOKE DUE TO FAN THAT CONTINUED TO RUN. ON ONE OCCASION, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND LOST POWER COMPLETELY. MIKE SMITH JEEP OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE NUMEROUS TIMES, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE WATER PUMP WAS REPLACED AFTER THE COOLANT OIL BEGAN LEAKING INTO THE PUMP. IN ADDITION, THE TRACTION CONTROL INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND INSTRUCTED THE DEALER TO CHECK THE TIPM; HOWEVER, THE FAILURES RECURRED EVEN AFTER NUMEROUS REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
ALTHOUGH A RECALL ON THE 160 AMP ALTERNATOR MY 180 AMP ALTERNATOR FAILED EXACTLY LIKE THE 160 - SMOKE AND LEFT ME IN TRAFFIC, FAILED WHILE DRIVING IN HOUSTON TRAFFIC. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF CASES WITH THE 180 ONLINE BUT FCA WILL NOT DO ANYTHING UNLESS YOU SAY SO. SO FOR NOW $1995 OUT OF MY POCKET. WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY, BATTERY WARNING LIGHT LIT UP, FOLLOWED BY (INCORRECT) ERROR MESSAGES ON INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MENU THAT DRIVER SEATBELT WAS UNFASTENED. ALL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT IN THE VEHICLE CEASED OPERATION, INCLUDING AC AND STEREO. I PULLED OFF OF FREEWAY AND OPENED HOOD TO FIND THE ALTERNATOR SMOKING HEAVILY. THIS WAS THE EXACT SAME FAILURE SITUATION DESCRIBED IN CHRYSLER RECALL P60, BUT BECAUSE MY ALTERNATOR WAS 180AMP INSTEAD OF 160AMP, IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE P60 RECALL. THE ALTERNATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE ALTERNATOR FAILURE ALSO RESULTED IN A BLOWN-OUT PCM, WHICH HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FAILURE THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED A CAR FIRE, OR TRAFFIC ACCIDENT. CHRYSLER RECALL P60 SHOULD INCLUDE THE 180AMP ALTERNATORS, AS WELL, BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE SAME FAULT AND SAFETY ISSUES.

IN ADDITION, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ENGAGED INDEPENDENTLY, THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FLASHED AND IMMEDIATELY BECAME DIM, AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED A BURNING RUBBER ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HILL VIEW MOTORIST CHRYSLER DEALER IN LUXOR, PENNSYLVANIA (724-834-8440) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND CAUSED THE BATTERY AND POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE TO BURN. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE ALTERNATOR, BATTERY, AND POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE ALTERNATOR IN THE VEHICLE WAS ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY AMPS AND WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,407. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REARVIEW MIRROR AREA AND THE UPPER CENTER FRONT AREA ACCUMULATED WATER. THE ACCUMULATED WATER DRIPPED DOWN TO THE FLOOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED MOLD IN THE RUG. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-992-1997 AND STATED THAT THE SUN ROOF DRAIN NEEDED TO BE CLEANED OUT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
WATER ENTERING VEHICLE AND COLLECTING IN THE STORAGE BY THE GARAGE DOOR OPENER CONTROL. NOW ALSO HAVE A MILDEW PROBLEM. SCARED OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK AND INHALING DANGEROUS MOLD.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS DEFECTIVE AND THE BRAKE ASSIST ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE CARMAX DEALER IN BURBANK, CA WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THEY COULD NOT SERVICE THE VEHICLE DUE TO OTHERS VEHICLE THAT NEEDED TO BE SERVICED FIRST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.

180 AMP ALTERNATOR EXPERIENCED CATASTROPHIC FAILURE CAUSING TOTAL LOSS OF ALL POWER, BATTERY FAILURE, PCM FAILURE AND SMOKING AND BURNING SMELL FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT. EXPERIENCED LOUD WHINNING FROM ALTERNATOR WHILE DRIVING IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO FAILURE. ULTIMATE FAILURE OCCURED AS CAR PULLED INTO PARKING SPOT. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE EXPERIENCED BY 160 AMP ALTERNATOR UNDER RECALL. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND CHRYSLER/JEEP SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO FIX THESE ISSUES.
JEEP STALLS SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING WITH NO INDICATION OTHER THAN THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THIS OCCURS REPEATEDLY AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS RANGING FROM 15 MPH IN THE CITY TO 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. STALLING HAS OCCURRED WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND ALSO WHILE TURNING.
POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKING; ACCORDING TO DEALER, POWER STEERING FLUID IS HIGHLY FLAMMABLE AND MAY CAUSE A FIRE FORCING ME TO PAY THE $1,600 FOR A NEW STEERING RACK. 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, 26K MILES.
2012 ALTITUDE. SOMETIMES WHEN I AM DRIVING THE ENGINE WILL CUT OUT. THERE ARE NO WARNINGS, NO GLITCHES IN THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS OR ANYTHING. THE ONLY WAY I KNOW THE ENGINE CUTS OUT IS THAT THERE IS NO RESPONSE FROM THE GAS PEDAL AND I LOSE POWER STEERING. I HAVE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL, EASE ON THE BRAKE, PRESS THE START BUTTON, AND THEN WHEN IT RESTARTS I SHIFT IT BACK INTO DRIVE AND PICK UP WHERE I LEFT OFF. LIKE I SAID, THERE ARE NO GLITCHES IN THE LIGHTS OR ANYTHING. NO CODES OR ENGINE LIGHTS OR ANYTHING. I BOUGHT IT IN SEPT 2016 AND ITS BEEN IN THE SHOP ABOUT 9 TIMES. THEY CANT EVEN GET THE PROBLEM TO HAPPEN, LET ALONE FIX IT. I EMAILED THE JEEP AND FIAT CEOS FOR A PAPER TRAIL IN CASE I GOT INTO A WRECK- WANTED TO COVER MY ***- AND THEY RESPONDED. THEY SAID THEY'D PAY FOR MY RENTAL CAR EVERY TIME I BROUGHT MY JEEP IN FOR SERVICE ON THIS ISSUE. SO THAT HAS LIMITED ME TO BRINGING IT INTO THE DEALER. THEY ARE GIVING ME A NUMBER TO ALLOW ME TO PURCHASE A NEW JEEP AT EMPLOYEE COST, BUT, CONSIDERING I BOUGHT A 2012 IN 2016, I CAN'T AFFORD A 2017 MODEL. I'D HAVE TO SACRAFICE A LOT OF MY CURRENT OPTIONS TO TRY TO FIND A VEHICLE PRICED TO MAINTAIN MY CURRENT PAYMENTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED FROM ALL SPEEDS. IT HAPPENED TO ME WHILE DRIVING AROUND 70MPH, 30MPH, AND EVEN AFTER I CAME TO A RED LIGHT, AND THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PRESSED THE GAS AND GOT NOTHING... THE ONLY THING THAT I HAVE NOTICED, AND I'M NOT EVEN SURE I REALLY NOTICED THIS, BUT IF I'M DRIVING HARD, AND GO FROM FAST TO SLOW QUICKLY, BUT NOT SLAMMING ON MY BRAKES, KIND OF LIKE FLYING DOWN THE STREET AND THEN THE LIGHT TURNS SO YOU GOTTA COME TO A STOP SOON. I HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE. I'M NOT EVEN SURE THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT. I HAVE AFTERMARKET HIDS INSTALLED (DDM TUNING WITH CANBUS PLUS OR WHATEVER IT IS) HOWEVER, IT'S HAPPENED DAY OR NIGHT, LIGHTS ON AND LIGHTS OFF.
I WENT TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PEDAL IS STIFF AND WILL NOT PUSH DOWN. JEEP DOESN'T WANT TO STOP. ALMOST CRASHED INTO CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I HAVE HAD NO BRAKE WORK AT ALL.
I HAVE A SAFETY RECALL ON MY VEHICLE, REGARDING THE WIRING ON THE VANITY LAMP ON VISOR. I CONTACTED THE DEALER THAT I PURCHASED IT FROM AND SCHEDULED THE 'WARRANTY RECALL' APPT TO REPAIR. WHEN I ARRIVED, THEY HAD ME TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE WITH THEM. I RETURNED LATER THAT DAY TO PICK IT UP AND WAS INFORMED THEY DIDN'T HAVE PART. I ASKED IF THEY WOULD CONTACT ME WHEN THEY GET IT AND THEY NEVER DID. IT'S BEEN 4 MONTHS NOW. WHAT DO I DO?
HAVE CONTACTED DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES TO ADDRESS TWO RECALLS. THEY STATE STILL WAITING FOR PARTS. HAVE BEEN WAITING MORE THAN ONE YEAR TO HAVE THESE RECALLS ADDRESSED.
LEATHER DASH COVER PEELING UP, BUBBLES LIFTING HEATER VENTS COVERS AND TRIM. AFFECTS VISION. FAILURE STARTED 5/2017
SUV WOULD NOT START, TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, REPLACED AIR METERING VALVE, STILL DID NOT START. WAS INFORMED BY MY MECHANIC THERE IS A RECALL ON THE SENSOR IN THE FUEL TANK BUT I WAS NOT TOLD BY CHRYSLER ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WHEN THE TRUCK WAS IN THE SHOP FOUR OTHER TIMES FOR TWO OTHER RECALLS. TRUCK MUST BE TOWED TO CHRYSLER SO THEY CAN LOOK AT THIS PROBLEM.
ALTERNATOR FAILED WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS. HEAVY SMOKE POURED FROM ENGINE BAY. FAULTY ALTERNATOR CAUSED PCM FAILURE. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WITH NO ISSUE. STOPPED FOR GAS. UPON RESTART, VEHICLE HAD HARD START AND THEN BEGAN SMOKING.
FRONT RACK AND PINION STEERING BOOT LEAKING. CAR BOUGHT NEW AND HAS 59,000 MILES. ON LINE REPORTS MANY OTHER VEHICLES WITH SAME PROBLEM. SAFETY ISSUE FOUND ON YEARLY INSPECTION.

IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND MASTER CYLINDER WERE LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V572000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC), BUT THE DEALER STATED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILURE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE MASTER CYLINDER TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.
ON REGULAR OCCASION VEHICLE WILL FAIL TO START, OCCASIONALLY VEHICLE WILL STALL WHILE DRIVING CAUSING LOSE OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKE ASSIST RENDERING VEHICLE HARD TO CONTROL. FUEL PUMP RELAY RECALL HAS BEEN COMPLETED AND WCM HAS BEEN REPLACED.

I HAD THE CAR FOR 3 YEARS AND DIDN'T HAVE ANY ISSUES. LAST SATURDAY EVENING 4/14/17 WE HAD JUST GOTTEN HOME FROM RUNNING TO THE STORE AND BLACK SMOKE STARTED TO COME UP FROM THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE OF THE HOOD. I BACKED THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE AND WENT AROUND THE CAR TO SEE WHAT THE ISSUE WAS. SAW SPARKS, GRABBED MY SON FROM THE BACK RAN AND CALLED 911. WITH IN 5 MIN THE FRONT OF THE JEEP WAS ON FIRE. TOOK 30 MIN TO PUT OUT AND THE CAR IS TOTALLED.

WHILE JEEP IS IN DRIVE MOTION, THE ENGINE GOES OFF, CAUSING THE POWER STEERING TO BECOME VERY HARD TO HANDLE AND STALLING. PROBLEM HAS ESCALATED. CONTACTED JEEP AND THEY MADE ME AN APPOINTMENT AT MY EXPENSE. THIS IS VERY SCARY WHEN IT HAPPENS AND YOU HAVE NO WARNING. IT HAS HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE AS WELL AS COUNTY ROADS.
