I WAS BACKING INTO MY DRIVEWAY (JEEP WAS IN MOTION) AND HAD THE RADIO ON. I WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK AND THE COMMUTE TOOK 30 MINUTES. WHILE BACKING IN, I HEARD A POPPING NOISE (SIMILAR TO THE NOISE A POP-IT FIREWORK MAKES WHEN IT HITS THE GROUND) INSIDE THE CABIN. I TURNED THE RADIO OFF AND STOPPED THE JEEP TO LISTEN TO THE POPPING. THE POPPING STOPPED AND I IMMEDIATELY SMELLED SMOKE. I THEN SAW THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CENTER CONSOLE NEAR THE HEAT/AIR CONTROLS. I THREW THE JEEP IN PARK, REMOVED THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION, AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. AFTER 5 MINUTES, I OPENED THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND SMOKE POURED OUT. IT SMELLED BURNT BUT I DID NOT SEE ANY FLAMES (I COULD HAVE MISSED THEM IN THE 5 MINUTES I WAS STANDING OUTSIDE MY VEHICLE). I TURNED THE JEEP BACK ON IN ORDER TO GET IT INTO MY GARAGE FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. UPON RETURNING THE VEHICLE TO MY GARAGE, THE HEADLIGHTS AND INTERIOR LIGHTS BOTH TURNED ON. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE JEEP DEALER TOMORROW TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER. I HAVE NO AFTERMARKET PARTS ON THE VEHICLE THOUGH HAVE NOT YET GOTTEN THE VISOR RECALL FIXED. PLEASE PROVIDE INSIGHT IF POSSIBLE. VERY CONCERNED. THIS POSES AN ENORMOUS SAFETY RISK.
VEHICLE WAS SERVICED FOR RECALLS APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS AGO AFTER THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING. YESTERDAY, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SMELL LIKE BURNED RUBBER AND STALLED WHILE I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES PER HOUR IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY DIED AND NEEDED TOWING TO DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS ALTERNATOR IS BURNED UP, ALONG WITH COMPUTERS AND BATTERY AND DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE ONGOING ISSUES WITH THE ALTERNATOR OR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN THIS MODEL. THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE ALTERNATOR RECALL ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY MAINTAIN THIS IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE RECALL ISSUES (ALTHOUGH IT ACTS THE SAME). VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS. *TR
AS I WAS ENTERING AN EXPRESSWAY ON RAMP WHEN JEEP SLOWED DOWN, WIPERS CAME ON, TURN SIGNALS STARTED FLASHING ERRATICALLY. IT SLOWED TO CRAWL AS I HAD TO INCH MY WAY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND I COULD NOT FULLY GET OUT OF ROAD. A UTILITY TRUCK STOPPED AND PLACED CONES AROUND MY CAR TO KEEP IT FROM BEING HIT UNTIL TOW TRUCK ARRIVED. I SINCE LEARNED THAT MOST OF THE 2012 ALTERNATORS WERE RECALLED BUT NOT THE 180 AMP ALTERNATORS BUT IT APPEARS IT IS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND I HAVE LEARNED FROM MY MECHANIC AND OTHER WEBSITES THAT MANY OTHER 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE'S WITH 180 AMP ALTERNATORS ARE HAVING SAME ISSUE AS THE ONES EQUIPPED WITH THE 160 AMP ALTERNATORS. THE ALTERNATOR, BATTERY AND COMPUTER CONTROLLING ALTERNATOR ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $2,000. THE DEALER WANTED $3,000. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.

THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SIMILAR FAILURES AND WAS REMINDED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V115000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,566.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE DASHBOARD BEGAN TO CRACK. THE LOCAL DEALER (LANSDALE CHRYSLER, 722 BETHLEHEM PIKE, MONTGOMERYVILLE, PA 18936) STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.
TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM-7) FAILURE. THE SYSTEM CONTINUES RUNNING AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TURNED OFF.
I HAVEN'T HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH MY CAR. I WAS GOING TO MY DADS WHEN A BATTERY LIGHT POPPED UP. I WAS LESS THAN MILE FROM HIS HOUSE. WHEN I GOT TO HIS HOUSE I CUT THE CAR OFF SO MY DAD COULD CHECK UNDER THE HOOD BUT HE DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. WHEN I CRANKED THE CAR BACK UP MY RADIO WAS CUTTING ON AND OFF, I CUT THE AIR ON LOW AND IT STARTED BLOWED HEAT OUT THE DEFROST, AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS START GOING OFF BY THEIRSELVES. I CUT THE CAR OFF AGAIN SO IT WOULD STOP. WHEN I TRIED TO CUT THE CAR BACK ON IT WOULDN'T CRANK. MY DAD HOOKED IT UP TO A BATTERY CHARGER BECAUSE HE THOUGHT THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. WE GOT IT CRANKED AND LEFT HIS HOUSE TO TAKE IT STRAIGHT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP. WE GOT ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE RODE AND THE LIGHTS WERE FLICKERING, THE STEERWHEEL LOCKED UP AND THE CAR CUT OFF. UNDER THE HOOD STARTED SMOKING. WE WERE STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE RODE WITH MY 4 YEAR OLD SON IN THE BACK SEAT. WE HAD TWO PEOPLE STOP TO TRY AND JUMP THE BATTERY OFF BUT IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. WE CALLED A TOW TRUNK AND THEY TOWED IT TO THERE SHOP. THEY HOOKED UP TO THERE MACHINES AND SAID IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR. NOW I'VE PAID $800 TO GET THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED. WHEN THE ALTERNATOR WENT OUT IT FRIED MY POWER MODULE CONTROL.
2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SUFFERED RAPID FAILURE OF ALTERNATOR AFTER BEING DRIVEN FOR 2 MILES AFTER OIL CHANGE FROM DEALER. SMOKED FOR15 MINUTES AFTER BEING TURNED OFF. RESULTED IN TOTAL SHUTDOWN OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
HERE ARE THE ISSUES I HAD WITH MY TRUCK WHICH ALIGN WITH ISSUES NOTED IN RECALLS; TIPM ' ELECTRICAL ISSUES IN MARCH 2015, THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENT TO THE TRUCK KEY MALFUNCTIONED AFTER OWNING THE TRUCK FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS. THIS MALFUNCTION DID NOT ALLOW ME TO LOCK THE CAR USING THE KEY. I HAD THE KEY BATTERY REPLACED THINKING THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT THE KEY MALFUNCTIONED AGAIN ONE WEEK LATER. SUN VISOR AND FUEL PUMP RECALL- DECEMBER 12, 2015 I HAD AN APPOINTMENT WITH KEFFER JEEP ON EAST INDEPENDENCE BOULEVARD TO HAVE BOTH RECALLS LOOKED AT. I WAS TOLD THEY WERE BOTH TAKEN CARE OF. ALTERNATOR / ELECTRICAL ISSUES- NOVEMBER 4, 2016 MY WIFE WAS TAKING OUR SON TO SCHOOL WHEN SHE BEGAN GETTING A BURNING SMELL FROM UNDER THE HOOD. AFTER DROPPING OFF MY SON, SHE PULLED OVER AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. SHE CUT THE CAR OFF, INITIALLY THINKING IT JUST OVERHEATED. WE LEFT THE CAR IN THE SCHOOL PARKING LOT OVERNIGHT HOPING IT WOULD START UP THE NEXT DAY. I TRIED TO START THE CAR, BUT IT WOULDN'T START AND THE KEY GOT STUCK IN THE IGNITION. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC, WE LEARNED THAT THE ALTERNATOR SUDDENLY FAILED, DRAINING THE BATTERY AND CAUSING THE ENGINE STALL. WHEN I EXPERIENCED THESE ISSUES WITH THE TRUCK ON 11/4, MY MECHANIC TOOK THE TRUCK TO STATE LINE JEEP IN FORT MILL, SC TO GET THE COMPUTER REPROGRAMMED. DURING THAT VISIT, MY MECHANIC WAS TOLD THAT THE VISOR RECALL WAS STILL OPEN WHICH MAKES ME WONDER IF THE FUEL PUMP ISSUE WAS EVER PROPERLY RESOLVED. THERE ARE MULTIPLE ALTERNATOR RECALLS FOR THIS TRUCK, BUT NOT ONE SPECIFIC TO MY VIN NUMBER.
ALTERNATOR / ELECTRICAL ISSUES- NOVEMBER 4, 2016 MY WIFE WAS TAKING OUR SON TO SCHOOL WHEN SHE BEGAN GETTING A BURNING SMELL FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THIS IS MY SECOND TIME SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAINT WITH NO RESPONSE FROM YOUR ORGANIZATION.
NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 / CHRYSLER RECALL P60 ALREADY EXISTS BUT THAT IS FOR 160 AMP MINE IS 180 AMP, I THINK THAT IS THE ONLY DIFFERENCE. MY JEEP DIED AND WOULD NOT START UP AGAIN. ALL POWER WAS LOST 100%, LUCKILY MY FAMILY AND I WERE STOPPED AT A GAS STATION GETTING SODAS. IT SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE THE SAME ISSUE OF THE RECALL THAT IS ALREADY OUT BUT ALSO EFFECTS MY JEEP WITH THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR. ACCORDING TO CHRYSLER THAT IS THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IN THE TWO MODELS. MINE IS A 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH A 3.6L V6
THE SAME EXACT THING AS RECALL P60 EXCEPT MY MODEL SUPPOSEDLY HAS A 180AMP ALTERNATOR. I CAN'T BE FOR SURE SINCE THE TAG WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY MELTED WHEN THE ALTERNATOR WAS REMOVED. PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM JUST STARTED FLASHING AND GOING HAYWIRE. THE VEHICLE QUIT WORKING. WHEN I POPPED THE HOOD, THE ALTERNATOR WAS SO HOT IT WAS ALMOST GLOWING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
IN 2016, MY 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO HAD ABOUT 38K MILES WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT MY VEHICLES RACK AND PINION HAD A "MINOR LEAK" THAT THEY SERVICE CENTER RECOMMENDED I "KEEP AN EYE ON." THIS WAS SOMETHING I REALLY NEEDED TO SAVE FOR BECAUSE IT WOULD COST $3000 TO REPAIR AND I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE! LESS THAN A WEEK LATER I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE I LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING WITH MY FAMILY. THIS FORCED ME TO REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION AS WELL AS FURTHER DAMAGE. THIS IS PRETTY UNUSUAL FOR A CAR WITH MILEAGE THAT LOW. ADDITIONALLY, IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT THIS ISSUE HASN'T BEEN A SUFFICIENT IMPETUS FOR INVESTIGATION CONSIDERING HOW UBIQUITOUS THAT EXACT CLAIM IS AMONG JGCL OWNERS. THESE COMMON CLAIMS SUGGEST THAT THE ISSUE ISNT CAUSED BY THE DRIVER, BUT IS IN FACT, A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. APPROPRIATELY, THE MANUFACTURER IS OBLIGATED TO REMEDY THIS DEFECT.. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND CAUSED A FIRE. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIRS AS THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE FAILURE DESCRIBED IN A RECALL. *JS *JS*DT*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT DRIVEN THE VEHICLE SINCE THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
ON 10/15 AT APPROXIMATELY 9:30 PM A FIRE WAS NOTED WITH SMOKE COMING OUT OF HOOD WHILE ENTERING MY GARAGE. I SHUT OFF ENGINE AND THICK WHITE SMOKE FILLED GARAGE. AAA WAS CALLED AND CAME AT 10:15 PM . AAA TECH DIAGNOSED IT AS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE AND REFUSED TO TOUCH THE CAR. AAA WAS SUBSEQUENTLY CALLED ON 10/26 WHEN CAR WAS TOWED TO JEEP DEALER. ALTERNATOR, PCM ( ELECTRICAL "BRAIN") AND BATTERY( WHICH WAS FAIRLY NEW) WERE REPLACED AT A COST OF 1141.82 COMPLAINT FILED WITH JEEP - COMPLAINT #30355332. JEEP DECLINED RESPONSIBILITY.
I HAVE A 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED, 5.7L ENGINE. PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED. AT APPROXIMATELY 60,000 MILES (2015) THE JEEP BEGIN TO RANDOMLY STALL WHILE DRIVING. IT ALWAYS HAPPENED WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF LEAVING MY HOUSE. FUEL LEVELS GOOD, DIDN'T MATTER IF TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT. VEHICLE STALLED, CAUSING STEERING TO LOCK. ALMOST IN 3 ACCIDENTS. ONLY REMEDY WAS TO PUT IT IN PARK, JEEP WOULD START RIGHT BACK UP. THIS HAPPENED IN JUNE, AUGUST AND OCTOBER. AFTER OCTOBER STALL, I TOOK TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING UNUSUAL, AND REPLACED THE BATTERY. THE TRAILER TAILLIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING AND THEY RECOMMEND REPLACE TIPM. THINGS WERE FINE UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2016. ON SEPT 2 JEEP STALLS TURNING RIGHT, FULL TANK OF GAS. ON SEPT 6 - STALLS SLIGHTLY TURNING INTO SUICIDE LANE. BACK TO DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP HAS IT FROM 9/7-9-9. CAN'T REPLICATE IT, AND NO ERRORS COME UP. THEY DO REPLACE RECALL SUN VISORS. SEPT 18 - STALLS GOING STRAIGHT ON ROAD. AGAIN, THIS IS IN THE MORNING, AND WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF LEAVING MY HOUSE. SATURDAY OCT 14. JEEP STALLS AGAIN AROUND NOON TIME. HADN'T DRIVEN IT SINCE FRIDAY 1PM, THE DAY BEFORE. FULL TANK OF GAS. DIED WHILE SLOWING DOWN TOWARDS A RED LIGHT, GOING STRAIGHT. ALMOST REAR ENDED AS A RESULT. THE DEALERSHIP CANT DIAGNOSE ONE THING THAT HAPPENS RANDOMLY. THERE IS A PLETHORA OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE REGARDING THE TIPM AND ALTERNATOR IN THIS JEEP. MY VIN ISN'T COVERED BY THE RECALLS, BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE A TIPM WOULD REMEDY THE SITUATION. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, AND CHRYSLER ISN'T HELPING. *TR

I DROVE MY CAR NOT EVEN THREE HOUSES AWAY FROM MY RESIDENCE AND HAD TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN. GOING ROUGHLY 10-15 MILES AND I COULD NOT STOP MY CAR. MY BRAKES WERE HARD AND NOTHING HAPPENED. MY CAR MISSED AN INCOMING CAR AND I SWERVED ONTO A CURB TO STOP MY CAR. MY BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY OUT! MY CAR HAD TO GET TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND COME TO FIND OUT IT WAS A RECALLED PART ON THE CAR THAT MADE THE BRAKES NOT WORK- BRAKE BOOSTER. DEALERSHIP SAID T WOULD BE REPLACED. THEY CALLED NEXT DAY TO TELL US IT WOULD NOT BE REPLACED DUE TO AN EXPIRED WARRANTY. AND TO CALL CHRYSLER 800 HOTLINE. IT GOT US NOWHERE. THE REP REFUSED TO PUT A MANAGER IN THE PHONE INDICATING THEY WILL CALL ME BACK AFTER THEIR 1 DAY POLICY. AND THAT MY CAR WAS ALREADY FIXED AND THAT I SHOULD PAY FOR IT AND THEY MIGHT REIMBURSE ME FOR IT IN 3-5 BUSINESS DAYS. CHRYSLER IS REFUSING TO PAY FOR THAT RECALLED PART.
SINCE PURCHASING MY 2012 JEEP GC, LUGNUTS HAVE BECOME LOOSE AND AT TIMES FALL OFF THE STUD WHILE DRIVING. REGARDLESS OF HOW WELL, OR HOW MANY TIMES THE LUG NUTS ARE TORCHED DOWN, THEY BECOME LOOSE AND FALL OFF. I HAVE REPLACED OVER 5 WHEEL STUDS BECAUSE THEY BREAK OFF UNDER PRESSURE AND TWICE AS MANY LUG NUTS AT $12 A PIECE. EACH REPAIR HAS COST ME OVER $150 A VISIT FOR STUD REPAIR. WHILE MOVING FROM MINNESOTA TO CALIFORNIA, MY LUG NUTS BECAME SO LOOSE ON MY WHEEL THE WHEEL ALMOST FELL OFF GOING 80 MPH. THIS IS A SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 85,000 MILES ON IT.

BATTERY DIED AND DEALER REPLACED BATTERY AND PERFORMED RECALL REPAIR FOR SUN VISOR WIRING. WITHIN FIRST 20 MILES, WHILE IN MOTION ON ATLANTA RD. IN SMYRNA, GEORGIA, CABIN FILLED WITH SMOKE FROM ELECTRICAL FIRE BENEATH FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, WHICH IS WHERE BATTERY IS LOCATED.
2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH THE ENGINE LOSING POWER, WARNING LIGHTS FLASHING WITH THE SMELL OF HOT OR BURNING ELECTRICAL WIRING ENTERING THE CABIN. I WAS LUCKY I WAS ON A CITY STREET GOING ABOUT 30MPH, AND NOT ON THE INTERSTATE MOVING AT A FASTER PACE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE NEXT DAY THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AT A COST OF OVER $1,000. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A DIFFICULT JOB TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR. BASED ON YOUTUBE VIDEOS, IT SHOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN MORE THAN AROUND 30-40 MINUTES. THE ALTERNATOR WAS AVAILABLE FOR $405-$450 FROM NUMEROUS MOPAR OEMS ONLINE. THE DEALERSHIP CHARGED ME OVER $730 AND LABOR OF OVER $250 FOR A TOTAL OF OVER $1,000. THE RECALL WAS FOR THE 160AMP, FOR THE SAME EXACT STATED SITUATION THAT I HAD WITH THE 180AMP, SO IT WAS NOT COVERED. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CHRYSLER/JEEP DEALERSHIP SEEMS TO USING THIS AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO GOUGE THE PUBLIC.
YET ANOTHER DEFECTIVE ALTERNATOR. WAS DRIVING ON CITY ROAD AND COULD SMELL SOMETHING BURNING IN ENGINE. PULLED OVER AND THOUGHT MY CAR WAS ON FIRE FROM THE AMOUNT OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. ALTERNATOR LOCKED UP. COULDN'T START VEHICLE AFTER I STOPPED.

ISSUE: TRANSMISSION FAULT LEADS TO UNEXPECTED "CREEP MODE" IN DRIVE, OVER-PRESSURIZED TRANS EXPELS TRANS FLUID ONTO MANIFOLD LEADING TO ENGINE FIRE. DETAILS: WHEN STOPPED & IDLING IN DRIVE FOR PERIOD OF TIME, TRANSMISSION GOES INTO CREEP MODE OF SOME SORT & WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM STOP IT DOES NOT MOVE. THIS CAN HAPPEN AT A LEFT-TURN RED-LIGHT AND WHEN LEAST EXPECTED, HAVING DISASTROUS RESULTS. TRANSMISSION FAILURE FROM OVER-PRESSURIZATION ALREADY LED TO TRANS FLUID BEING EXPELLED FROM DIPSTICK TUBE ONTO ENGINE MANIFOLD RESULTING IN AN ENGINE FIRE. VIDEOTAPED EVIDENCE SHOWS THE TRANS IS AT NORMAL OPERATING TEMP, YET TACHOMETER IS SHOOTING UP TO 25,000RPM'S & CAR ONLY CREEPS FORWARD. AT THAT MOMENT SMOKE BEGAN POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE AS ONCE AGAIN FLUID WAS BEING EXPELLED ONTO MANIFOLD. ONLY THIS TIME OWNER DID NOT OPEN THE HOOD SO THE LACK OF INFLUX OF FRESH O2 DID NOT IGNITE FLUID LIKE IT DID THE FIRST TIME. VEHICLE IS UNDER 100,000 MILE DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY & JEEP DEALER ENTERED DIAGNOSIS AND REQUEST TO "REPLACE TRANSMISSION, COOLER, O2 SENSOR, & WIRING HARNESS" WHICH FCA USA, LLC REJECTED. FCA RREFUSES TO SAY WHY. DEALER HAS HELD VEHICLE NOW FOR 2MONTHS & 2WEEKS WHILE DEALER TRIES TO CONVINCE FCA TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE DRIVETRAIN. FCA REFUSES TO SUPPLY WRITTEN DOCUMENTATION OF WHY CLAIM IS BEING REJECTED. YET HE KNOWS NOTHING OF TRANSMISSIONS & SPOKE TO NO ONE AT DEALER ABOUT THEIR DIAGNOSIS AND ISSUE. WHILE DRIVING, BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON, MADE IT TO A SAFE PLACE. TURNED OFF CAR NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER HOOD. WHEN I OPENED HOOD I COULD SEE SMOKE AND SMELL ELECTRICAL BURN AT THE ALTERNATOR. AFTER TIME PASSED, I TRIED TO CRANK CAR, MADE A TERRIBLE NOISE AND ALTERNATOR SMOKED AGAIN. HAD TOWED TO LOCAL DEALER. APPARENTLY A RECALL WAS SENT OUT ON THIS, WHEN CAR WAS IN FOR SERVICE REPAIR WAS NOT DONE? WAITING TO HEAR FROM DEALER.
CAR WAS MAKING HUMMING SOUND DURING A 3 MILE DRIVE TO WORK. LEAVING WORK THAT SAME EVENING, CAR HUMMED FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THE RED BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. DROVE HOME THE 3 MILES AND MY HUSBAND COULD NOT GET ANY "CODES" TO COME UP ON THE READING DEVICE HE PLUGGED INTO THE CAR. NEXT MORNING DROVE 2 MILES AND THE LIGHT LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, NO CODES AGAIN. TWO HOURS LATER DROVE 3 MILES TO HAIR SALON, LIGHT CAME ON AND WHEN I PARKED AND TURNED OFF MY CAR, STEAM/SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT THE FRONT OF THE HOOD. LUCKILY A PEP BOYS WAS IN SAME SHOPPING CENTER THEY CAME TO ASSIST ME. THEY TRIED TO START MY CAR TO DRIVE IT A FEW DOORS DOWN TO THEIR SHOP, CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD AND WOULD NOT TAKE A BATTERY CHARGE AFTER TRYING OVER AND OVER AGAIN FOR A FEW HOURS. FINALLY HAD A TOW TRUCK PICK IT UP TO MOVE A FEW DOORS DOWN TO PEP BOYS. THEY REPLACED ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY AND NOW THE LIGHT HAS COME BACK ON AGAIN, THE DAY AFTER PICKING IT BACK UP. FURTHER TESTS ARE NOT BEING DONE, BUT REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY AT A COST OF $938.
ALTERNATOR SUDDENLY FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN BUSY INTERSTATE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET TO SIDE OF ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT. I SEE THERE IS A RECALL ON LIKE YEAR/MODELS FOR THIS VERY THING, HOWEVER MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL, SO I AM HAVING TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR TOW, ALTERNATOR AND LABOR....AND POSSIBLE NEW BATTERY AND OTHER ELECTRICAL THINGS, BECAUSE ALTERNATOR GOT HOT AND BURNED CAUSING COMPLETE ELECTRICAL SHUTDOWN OF VEHICLE, SO WE ARE STILL UNAWARE OF COMPLETE DAMAGE DONE.
ANOTHER 2012 JEEP GC OWNER WITH THE 180AMP ALTERNATOR FAILING HERE. IT FAILED JUST LIKE MANY OTHER 160AMP AND MANY MANY 180AMP JEEP GC'S. IF THE 160AMP WAS RECALLED FOR SAFETY ISSUES THEN WHY IS THE 180AMP NOT BEING RECALLED. IS THERE A DEATH INDICATOR THAT WARRANTS A RECALL? AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. IT WAS ON WHEN I WAS AT THE DEALER SO THE SERVICE CONSULTANT COULD CHECK THE CODES. HE SUGGESTED THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG INSIDE THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. I HAVE SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE HIM TAKE THE DOOR APART AND INVESTIGATE FURTHER.

2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED INTO AN ADVANCE AUTO PARTS THINKING IT WAS JUST A BATTERY ISSUE. THEY TURNED THE CAR OFF, HOOKED UP THE COMPUTER AND RESTARTED THE CAR. WHEN CAR WAS RESTARTED, IT MADE HORRIBLE SCREECHING NOISES UNDER THE HOOD. THEY SHUT THE CAR OFF, GOT THE COMPUTER READING, AND THEN SMOKE CAME POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD.. LOST ALL POWER EXCEPT WINDSHIELD WIPERS AUTOMATICALLY CAME ON. IT SMOKED FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES. HAD CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. THE ALTERNATOR SPIKED SUCH HIGH VOLTAGE THAT IT BURNT UP THE ALTERNATOR, BURNED THE METAL ID TAG ON THE ALTERNATOR BEYOND RECOGNITION AND BURNED UP MY BATTERY SO BAD THAT THE BATTERY WARPED. CHRYSLER INFORMED ME THAT MY ALTERNATOR WAS A 180 AMP, BUT WE CAN'T READ THE BURNT UP TAG ON THE ALTERNATOR SO I'M NOT EXACTY SURE WHAT AMP IT IS. I WAS TOLD MY 3 DIFFERENT MECHANICS THAT WE ARE LUCKY MY CAR DIDN'T CATCH ON FIRE.

DROVE STRAIGHT TO DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THE ALTERNATOR WAS BURNT OUT AND THE BATTERY SHOT. I COMPLAINED TO FCA. THEIR ESPONSE THERE IS A RECALL ON 160 AMP ALTERNATORS BUT IT .DOES NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT HAS A 180 AMP ALTERNATOR.

NEXT THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND THE BATTERY WAS TESTED AND DEEMED IN GOOD CONDITION .. THEN THE CAR STALLED AND WOULD NOT TURN ON UNTIL IT RECEIVED A BATTERY JUMP .. IT THEN TURN ON AND COMPLETELY OFF AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THE ALTERNATOR HAS BEEN DEEMED THE PROBLEM AND I AM REQUESTING MY CAR BE FIXED UNDER THE 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ALTERNATOR RECALL

MY 180 AMP ALTERNATOR BURNT OUT AND IN THE PROCESS BURNED THE COMPUTER AND OTHER PARTS BECAUSE OF THE WAY IT FRIED. WHEN I HEARD OTHERS HAD THE SAME ISSUE I WAS SHOCKED TO HEAR IT WAS NOT A RECALL YET. THEN EVEN MORE SHOCKED TO HEAR THERE IS A RECALL BUT ONLY FOR THE 160 AMP ALTERNATOR AND DOES NOT COVER THE 180 AMP MODEL. REALLY???? JEEP SHOULD TAKE MORE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUE AND REPLACE ALL OF THE ALTERNATORS. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DANGEROUS ISSUE IF IT FRIED WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND LOST POWER THE WAY I DID. THE ALTERNATOR ON MY 2012 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SUDDENLY FAILED WITHOUT ANY WARNING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL WHILE DRIVING, BURNING ODOR ENTERED THE INTERIOR OF VEHICLE, ALTERNATOR WAS SMOKING. ON 8/13/16 I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE THERE WAS A SUDDEN BURNING ODOR THAT ENTERED THE VEHICLE ALONG WITH SLIGHTLY INCREASED BELT DRIVEN WHINE NOISE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, OPENED THE HOOD, BURNING ODOR AND SMOKE ARISING FROM ALTERNATOR. I WAS ABLE TO GET CAR TO START UP AGAIN AFTER 15 MINUTES AND DRIVE LESS THAN A MILE TO MY HOUSE. CONTINUED BURNING ODOR AND ALTERNATOR WHINE NOISE. CONTACTED CHRYSLER/JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE SPOKE TO REPRESENTATIVE AND REPORTED PROBLEM. I WAS INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE HAD THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR. THE 160 AMP ALTERNATOR FOR THE MODEL AND YEAR OF MY VEHICLE WAS RECALLED UNDER P60 RECALL. I WAS INFORMED BY REP THAT BECAUSE MY ALTERNATOR WAS 180 IT WAS NOT PART OF RECALL. DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THE FAILURE OF MY 180AMP ALTERNATOR WAS EXACTLY THE SAME REASON WHY THE 160AMP WAS RECALLED EARLIER FOR MODEL AND YEAR OF MY VEHICLE. GOT THE VEHICLE TOWED TO JEEP DEALERSHIP WHO CONFIRMED ALTERNATOR FAILED. SPOKE AGAIN TO JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO STATES THE ALTERNATOR FOR MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF RECALL CASE#29914869. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE SUDDEN FAILURE OF THE ALTERNATOR ON THIS MODEL AND YEAR HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AND RECALLED FOR THE 160 AMP VERSION, SIMILAR FAILURE IS OCCURRING ON THE 180 AMP VERSIONS AND NEED TO BE RECALLED TO REMEDY THE DANGEROUS SITUATION OF SUDDEN STALLING WHILE DRIVING AND FIRE RISK THAT EXISTS FROM EXCESSIVE HEAT OF THE ALTERNATOR DUE TO SUDDEN FAILURE. MY VEHICLE IS METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AND JUST PASSED MULTI POINT DEALER INSPECTION 2 WEEKS PRIOR.
TWO ISSUES SUDDEN ENGINE STALL START BUTTON FAILS TO START JEEP
MY STEERING WILL AT VARIOUS TIMES, SHAKE WILL DRIVING, SOMETIMES VIOLENTLY. THE SHAKING GETS WORSE IF I APPLY THE BRAKES. THIS IS AN OFF AND ON PROBLEM AND DOES NOT OCCUR EVERYDAY. IT MOSTLY OCCURS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (55 MPH+) I HAVE VIDEO OF THIS OCCURRING AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING.(MP4 FORMAT) I HAVE BEEN TO THE JEEP DEALER (THOMPSON CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP IN EDGEWOOD MARYLAND) 3 TIMES (HAVE SHOWN THEM THE VIDEO) IN THE LAST YEAR TRYING TO GET THIS CORRECTED, BUT THEY CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG. I'M AFRAID THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL ONE DAY CAUSE ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT WHERE I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHILE DRIVING.
