TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT, THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE HEADLAMPS DID NOT PROJECT FAR ENOUGH AHEAD OF THE VEHICLE TO MAKE IT SAFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE PERFORMED AS INTENDED, BUT THE ISSUE WAS DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE HEADLAMPS AND THE WATTAGE OF THE BULBS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,500. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE GEAR BECAME STUCK IN PARK WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,496.
"TAKATA RECALL" DRIVING TO WORK MY CAR MADE A LOUD WHISTLING NOISE AND THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME OUT. I LET IT SIT DURING WORK AND AFTER WORK I STARTED IT UP. I THEN HOPPED IN AND WHILE DRIVING I NOTICED A BURNING SMELL COMING INTO THE TRUCK AND IT WAS SMOKING FROM THE HOOD AT A STOP LIGHT. I PROCEEDED HOME AND THE SMOKE WAS NOW INSIDE THE CAR. MY BABY COUSIN WAS IN THE CAR AND HE BEGAN COUGHING, THAT'S WHEN I LOOKED OVER AND NOTICED IT WAS VERY SMOKY IN THE CAR. I KEPT DRIVING HOME (THE STREET WAY) ROLLED THE WINDOW DOWN SLIGHTLY FOR VENTILATION AND NOTICED THAT MY PARKING SENSE LIGHT CAME ON. AT THE NEXT LIGHT, MY ABN LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND SEVERAL OTHER LIGHTS. THAT BEGAN TO SCARE ME AND I KNEW IT WASN'T JUST MY BATTERY. THE NEXT TIME I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE THE SMOKE FROM THE HOOD INCREASED AS WELL AS IN THE CAR. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS BEGAN GOING CRAZY, AND I COULD TELL THAT THE CAR WASN'T LETTING ME USE THE GAS ANYMORE AND THE WHEEL BEGAN TO LOCK UP. THIS REALLY MADE ME NERVOUS BECAUSE IT WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN IT. AT THIS POINT IM PANICKING AND CAUSING TRAFFIC. PULLING INTO A SAFE LOCATION,THE WHEEL WAS COMPLETELY LOCKED AT THIS POINT AND EVEN PUSHING THE BRAKE WAS HARD. AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP THE CAR WOULDN'T LET ME PUT IT IN PARK, THEN THE VEHICLE JUST SHUT OFF. THE SMOKING CONTINUED FOR A FEW MINUTES BUT I JUMPED OUT AS SOON AS IT CAME TO A STOP. LUCKILY I TOOK ANOTHER ROUTE HOME OR ELSE I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I THEN CALLED AAA AND WAITED OUTSIDE TO GET THE TRUCK TOWED. IT TOOK THEM 25 MINUTES TO COME AFTER A 5 MINUTE PHONE CALL REQUESTING THEIR SERVICES. I GOT MY BELONGINGS OUT OF THE TRUCK AND IT STILL SMELLED LIKE BURNT SMOKE EVEN AFTER WAITING WITH THE WINDOW CRACKED. I DON'T HAVE PICTURES, I HAVE VIDEOS.
MY SUNROOF EXPLODED TODAY. I WAS DRIVING AT 50 MPH, EXTERNAL TEMP. IS 30 DEGREES AND SUNNY. THERE WERE NO CARS AROUND ME TO THROW A ROCK. THERE WAS NOTHING OVERHEAD. I WAS DRIVING ON ROUTE 137 IN MAINE, A WELL PAVED ROAD IN A FAIRLY RURAL AREA. I HAD THE SHADE CLOSED, AS I ALWAYS DO. I HEARD AND EXPLOSIVE NOISE DIRECTLY OVERHEAD. THERE WAS IMMEDIATE LOUD WIND NOISE ABOVE MY HEAD. I PULLED OVER AND OPENED THE SUNSHADE. THE SUNROOF WAS SHATTERED AND THE ENTIRE CENTRAL PORTION WAS GONE. ALL OF THE SHATTERED GLASS AROUND THE EDGES WAS CONVEX, BOWED OUTWARD AWAY FROM THE CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE AWAY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ALSO STALLED ON ANOTHER OCCASION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,300.
ON THREE OCCASIONS IN THE SPRING OF 2016 THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS ON A SLIGHT INCLINE WITH THE ENGINE OFF, IN PARK WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED. ON ONE OF THOSE OCCURRENCES I WAS EXITING THE VEHICLE AND HALFWAY OUT WHEN IT BEGAN TO ROLL. I WAS ALMOST CAUGHT BETWEEN THE VEHICLE WITH AN OPEN DRIVERS DOOR AND A RETAINING WALL IN MY DRIVEWAY. I MANAGED TO JUMP BACK IN AND STOP THE VEHICLE. IN MARCH OF 2017 THE VEHICLE ROLLED FORWARD WHILE FACING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION ON THE SAME INCLINE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED. AFTER IT HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME I WAS ABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM TWO ADDITIONAL TIMES WITHIN A SPAN OF 2 MINUTES.
THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT (HEADREST) OF MY JEEP DEPLOYED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY CAUSING ME TO SWERVE INTO THE OTHER LANE. LUCKILY, THERE WEREN'T ANY CARS IMMEDIATELY AROUND ME SO I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL AND CONTINUE ON WITHOUT INJURY. I BELIEVE THIS COULD BE A VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT IN OTHER SITUATIONS. THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT IS INTENDED TO GO OFF IN A COLLISION TO PREVENT WHIPLASH FROM AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AS FAR AS I UNDERSTAND. MY VEHICLE WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT OR TOUCHED IN ANY WAY, SIMPLY TRAVELING STRAIGHT DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY AN INSPECTION AT THE LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP.
WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AND APPROACHING A BUSY INTERSECTION, MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED IN MOTION AND THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD LIT UP FOR A BRIEF SECOND, TO INCLUDE THE BATTERY LIGHT. THE STOP LIGHT WAS RED AND I FULLY STOPPED. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I STEPPED ON THE GAS TO ACCELERATE TO MAKE A LEFT TURN INTO THE INTERSECTION WHEN MY VEHICLE MOVED MERE INCHES BEFORE IT COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN. THIS ALL HAPPENED WITHIN A MINUTE WITH NO WARNING. TWO TRUCKS ATTEMPTED TO JUMP MY JEEP, BUT ALL THAT HAPPENED WAS THE JUMPER CABLES STARTED TO SMOKE AND HEAT TO THE POINT THEY WERE UNTOUCHABLE. I HAD TO HAVE MY JEEP TOWED TO A NEAR BY CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP WHERE THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS A SIMILAR RECALL FOR 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES DEALING WITH THE ALTERNATOR, BUT I WAS TOLD THAT MY JEEP WAS MANUFACTURED WITH A 180AMP AND NOT THE 160AMP LISTED IN THE RECALL.
Driver’s side active head restraint deployed while vehicle was parked in driveway over night.
VEHICLE WAS IN PARK AND WHEN I STARTED MY VEHICLE UP I LOOKED TO MY RIGHT AND NOTICED THE ACTIVE HEADREST ON JUST THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FAILED AND HAD EJECTED ON IT'S OWN WITHOUT BEING IN A COLLISION. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE HELFMAN DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM DEALERSHIP 7720 KATY FWY, HOUSTON, TX 77024. I AM BEING CHARGED FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF AN ENTIRELY NEW HEADREST WHEN MINE FAILED BY DESIGN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED AND THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND BRAKE FLUID NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V154000 (SERVICE BRAKES, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,800.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS BECAME INOPERABLE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED, AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
ON FEB 10TH 2017 WHILE DRIVING TO WORK THE CAR LOST ITS POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY, ABS FAILED, POWER STEERING FAILED, AND EVERY INDICATOR ON THE DASH BOARD LIT UP. WHEN THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED, CAR SHUT DOWN WHILE IT WAS IN GEAR. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION AT THE JEEP DEALERSHIP, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT ALTERNATOR WAS AT FAULT AND CAUSED THE CAR TO STALL AND ELECTRONICS TO FAIL. COSTING $1,600 IN REPAIRS
THE ALTERNATOR STARTED SMOKING AFTER DRIVING IT 1/4 MILE AND THEN STOPPING. ALTERNATOR WAS SMOKING WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. ALTERNATOR CONTINUED TO SMOKE AFTER THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE ALTERNATOR TURNED A CLOUDY BLACK BECAUSE OF THE SMOKE AND THE CAR SUDDENLY DID NOT WORK. VEHICLE WAS TOWED (FOR FREE) TO RAF'S AUTO REPAIR IN KAPOLEI, HI AND FIXED. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE ERROR CODE FOR THE JEEP STATED THAT THE ALTERNATOR SUDDENLY FAILED FOR UNKNOWN REASONS. MOST LIKELY A FAULTY ALTERNATOR. THE GRAND TOTAL TO FIX THIS ISSUE WAS $863. I CALLED CHRYSLER TO SEE IF MY VEHICLE HAD A FAULTY ALTERNATOR RECALL. IT DID NOT. SO I COULD NOT GET IT FIXED BY CHRYSLER. I GATHER FROM THE 10 RECALLS ON MY VEHICLES YEAR MAKE AND MODEL GROUP, THAT THIS ALTERNATOR WAS A FACTORY DEFAULT AND I SHOULD NOT BE PAYING FOR IT. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION BY CHRYSLER COMPANY AND I BELIEVE THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD PAY FOR THIS REPAIR BILL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THERE WAS PUDDLE OF FLUID UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONDENSER LEAKED. THE CONDENSER, AIR CONDITIONER, AND TRANSMISSION FLUID NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,000.
I CURRENTLY OWN A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND HAVE HAD A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE WITH ZERO HELP FROM THE MANUFACTURER THAT INCLUDE ITEMS REGARDING MY LIGHTS SHUTTING OF DURING NIGHT DRIVING, MY ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN 3 TIMES WHILE PULLING ONTO A MAJOR HIGHWAY AS WELL AS MY BRAKES MALFUNCTIONING WHILE DRIVING ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE. I HAD HAD OTHER ISSUES BUT AS THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN UNCOOPERATIVE AND I AM STUCK WITH AN UNSAFE VEHICLE WITH A CHILD ON THE WAY I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE SURE I FILE A COMPLAINT IN AS MANY PLACES AS I CAN BEFORE I SIMPLY LOOK TO GET RID OF THIS VEHICLE. ALL ISSUES OCCURED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND ALL HAVE OCCURRED WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY DURING THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP BUT AS THE SERVICE CENTER NEVER DOCUMENTED MY ITEMS PROPERLY I WAS STUCK WITH A LEMON AS I PUT 50K MILES ON IN THE FIRST YEAR DUE TO MY COMMUTE TO MY EMPLOYER FROM MILFORD, NH TO BURLINGTON, MA BEFORE MOVING BACK TO MA WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE MOST RECENT ISSUE WAS MY BRAKE BOOSTER WHICH LEAKS WATER INTO IT AND FREEZES DURING COLD WEATHER AND MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN SITTING AROUND SINCE FEB AS THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT COVER IT AS THEY CLAIM TO HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE RECALLED ITEM SO I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF A DISPUTE OVER THAT NOW AS WELL. ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
OWNER HAS BEEN HAVING ONGOING ISSUE WITH HEAD UNIT IN 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED W/44K MILES. VEHICLE WAS ORIGINALLY BOUGHT BACK BY JEEP FOR ELECTRICAL ISSUES THEN RESOLD. RADIO UNIT WAS ALREADY REPLACED TWICE BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND THE NEW OWNER IS BEING ASKED TO REPLACE IT FOR A THIRD TIME OUT OF POCKET. HEAD UNIT FREEZES RENDERING THE FUNCTIONS UNUSABLE. ADDITIONALLY, THE SCREEN REMAINS BLACK ON START UP PREVENTING USE OF THE RADIO, PHONE, REAR BACKUP CAMERA AND USE OF THE HEAT CONTROLS SUCH AS TEMPERATURE AND AREA OF HEAT DISTRIBUTION. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WITHOUT WARNING, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE RISING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER (PHILLIPS CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM, 3440 S PINE AVE, OCALA, FL 34471, (352) 732-7577) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED AND THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) DUE TO THE AMP BEING 180 AND NOT 160. IT WAS UNKNOWN IF THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V435000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO SOLUTION OTHER THAN HAVING THE DEALER REPLACE THE PART. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. ...UPDATED 10/23/17 *BF *JS
FRONT SEAT, MIDDLE CONSOLE CUP HOLDERS, TRIM, HAS BECOME DANGEROUS! THE HIGH POLISHED SILVER COLORED ACCENT TRIM HAS PULLED AWAY FROM THE CIRCULAR AREA OF THE CUP HOLDERS. THE MATERIAL IS A PLASTIC METAL THAT IS VERY SHARP AND HAS CUT UP MY FINGERS OVER 10 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR. BECAUSE THE DESIGN ROLLS IN AND DOWN LIKE A BACKWARDS C THE PLASTIC METAL HAS FRAYED FROM USE AND DOESN'T LAY FLAT OR SEALED TO THE CUP HOLDERS. EACH TIME THE CUP HOLDERS ARE USE THE CUPS GET CAUGHT ON THE CUP HOLDERS AND ALSO CUT THE CUPS. I HOPE A COFFEE CUP DOESN'T BREAK ON ME OR A PASSENGER IN THIS SITUATION AND BURN THEM. MY OPTIONS ARE TO PEEL THE BAD TRIM AWAY AND HAVE IT LOOK WORSE OR PAY A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY TO REPLACE THE WHOLE MIDDLE CONSOLE UNIT, NOT PRACTICAL FOR THE CONSUMER. THIS IS ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE USER AND NOT THE VISUAL APPEARANCE.
I FILED CASE # 10854550 ON 4/9/16 FOLLOWING AN ACTIVE BRAKING SYSTEM MALFUNCTION WHERE MY VEHICLE BRAKED ON ITS OWN WITH NO VEHICLES OR OTHER OBSTACLES IN MY PATH ON 3/31/16. I FILED CASE #10948159 FOLLOWING AN INCIDENT ON 1/9/17 WHERE THE COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM WENT OFF AND THE ACTIVE BREAKING FEATURE ENGAGED, DESPITE NO RISK OF COLLISION. FURTHER, THE ACTIVE BREAKING FEATURE WAS TURNED OFF IN MY VEHICLE SETTINGS. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS REPORTED TO ME THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE, FOLLOWING AN INSPECTION. BUT YET AGAIN, ON JANUARY 31, 2017, MY COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM WENT OFF AND THE ACTIVE BREAKING FEATURE ENGAGED, DESPITE NO RISK OF COLLISION. THE FEATURE HAS REMAINED DISABLED PER MY VEHICLE SETTINGS. IN THIS INSTANCE I WAS DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC WITH MY COUSIN AND MY ALMOST 19 MONTH OLD SON IN THE CAR. OUT OF NOWHERE, THE SYSTEMS LISTED ABOVE ENGAGED. I REALLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. I FEEL AT RISK, AND WORSE, I FEEL I AM ENDANGERING MY CHILD BY DRIVING IN MY CAR. SHORT OF SELLING IT AND PASSING THIS RISK ON TO SOMEONE ELSE, I AM AT A LOSS IN TERMS OF WHAT CAN BE DONE.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY A DASH WARNING APPEARED THAT SAID TRANSMISSION FAILURE, PUT CAR IN PARK. AT THAT POINT THE GAS PEDAL STOPPED WORKING AND THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN ON ITS OWN. MEANWHILE ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WHILE TRYING TO MAKE IT TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE. THE FIRST TIME HAPPENED AT 19K MILES, 2ND 29K MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS COMPLETELY REPLACE, 3RD TIME 42K ALL 3TIMES ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS AN UNSAFE VEHICLE FOR ANY PERSON TO BE DRIVING. ALL INCIDENTS BETWEEN 5/2015 AND 1/2017
2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND: THE HO HEADLIGHTS TURN THEM-SELF OFF UPON NIGHT DRIVING. THIS IS WITH THE AUTO HEADLIGHT SWITCH ON AS WELL AS THE SWITCH TURNED ON. CONTACTING THE DEAL AS WELL AS MANUFACTURE ((800)-247-9753), CASE NUMBER 31082574, I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS IS NOT A RECALL ISSUE. I FEEL THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE.
WHILE DRIVING BATTERY LOW VOLTAGE ALARM OCCURRED. SHORTLY AFTER,ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS BEGAN TO SHUT DOWN, LOST POWER STEERING,THEN ENGINE SHUTDOWN. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO SHOULDER OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY. VEHICLE HAD NO POWER :ALL ELECTRICAL INDICATORS,DISPLAYS,LIGHTS,INCLUDING SHIFTER WERE OFF AND COULD NOT BE TURNED ON
I BACKED MY 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OUT OF THE GARAGE TO A POSITION ABOUT 3' IN OUTSIDE OF THE GARAGE DOOR. I PUT IT IN PARK, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR, CLOSED THE DOOR AND WENT BACK INTO THE GARAGE TO GET AN EXTENSION LADDER. I CARRIED THE LADDER AROUND BEHIND THE JEEP AND PUT IT ON MY ROOF RACK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I WALKED BACK BEHIND THE JEEP AND INTO THE GARAGE AGAIN TO GET A STEP STOOL AND SOME BUNGEE CORDS TO ATTACH THE LADDER AND WENT AROUND THE JEEP AGAIN. I FINISHED SECURING THE LADDER TO THE RACK AND OPENED THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR TO PUT THE STEP STOOL IN THE FOOT WELL IN THE BACK SEAT. JUST AT THAT MOMENT THE CAR STARTED SPONTANEOUSLY ROLLING BACKWARD DOWN THE SLIGHT INCLINE. I GRABBED ONTO THE DOOR FRAME AND BRACED TO TRY TO STOP IT, BUT THE CAR WAS TOO HEAVY AND IT JUST KEPT GOING. SO I SLAMMED THE REAR DOOR, OPENED THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR AND DOVE INTO THE CAR. I MANAGED TO GET MY LEFT FOOT ONTO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT BROUGHT THE CAR TO A STOP. WHEN I TOOK STOCK OF WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED, I FOUND MYSELF WITH MY LEFT FOOT ON THE BRAKE, AND MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE DASHBOARD IN FRONT OF THE PASSENGER SEAT. I GOT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SET. FORTUNATELY, THE CAR DIDN'T HIT ANYTHING OR ANYBODY AS IT ROLLED BACKWARD. THIS VEHICLE ALREADY HAD THE RECALL INSTALLED TO FIX THE SHIFT LEVER PROBLEM. I NOW BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS NOT WITH THE SHIFT LEVER. I HAD ONLY SHIFTED FROM PARK TO REVERSE TO PARK AND THE SOFTWARE HAD 3 OPPORTUNITIES TO SET IT TO PARK: 1) WHEN I PUSHED THE SHIFTER INTO PARK, 2) WHEN I TURNED OFF THE CAR, AND 3) WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR. THIS SEEMS LIKE A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION - WHERE THE TRANSMISSION GOT SET INTO NEUTRAL AND THE SOFTWARE DID NOT KNOW WHERE IT WAS SET.
MY VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE EXACT PROBLEM ADDRESSED IN NHTSA REFERENCE #14V636000. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN 07/13 WHICH IS OUTSIDE OF THE RECALL PERIOD. I BELIEVE THAT MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. IT COMES ON SUDDENLY AND IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE.
SERVICE DEF CAME ON AT 34,000 MILES. DEALER SAID THAT THE DEF WAS CONTAMINATED WITH CRYSTALS AND THE PUMP NEEDED REPLACED. REFUSED TO COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO CONTAMINATION. ONLY PEAK BLUE DEF WHICH MEETS ISO 22241 HAS BEEN USED IN THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP THEN TOLD US TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE BACK ORDERED PART WAS AVAILABLE. WHEN QUERIED ABOUT THE VEHICLE GOING INTO "LIMP MODE" THEY AGREED IT WAS A POSSIBILITY. THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE A LOANER VEHICLE UNTIL THE PART ARRIVED AND WILL NOT COVER UNDER WARRANTY. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF CASES ON JEEP FORUMS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE IF A DEALER TELLS YOU TO DRIVE A VEHICLE THEY KNOW WILL GO INTO LIMP MODE, ESPECIALLLY ON A FREEWAY. WE ALSO HAVE A 14 MONTH OLD CHILD AND LIVE IN COLORADO, BREAKING DOWN ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IS NOT AN OPTION. THE DEALER DOES NOT RETURN PHONE CALLS AND CHRYSLER CUSTOMER CARE SIDED WITH THE DEALER AND PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE.

THE VEHICLE ROLLED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY WHEN IT WAS IN PARK AND THE IGNITION WAS OFF. IT DID NOT SLIDE, IT ROLLED. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DIFFERENT ISSUE BECAUSE THE IGNITION WAS OFF WHEN THE ROLLAWAYS OCCURRED.
WHEN I ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY, THE CAR SEEMS TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL (ALTHOUGH IT DOESN'T DISPLAY THAT IT IS IN NEUTRAL ON THE SCREEN) AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE. THE ENGINE STILL REVS WHEN I PUSH THE ACCELERATOR, BUT THE CAR ACTS AS IF IT IS IN NEUTRAL AND THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES IN MY VEHICLE, AND EACH TIME I HAVE BEEN TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF GREATER THAN 40 MPH AND IT HAS OCCURRED WHEN I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE QUICKER THAN NORMAL, SUCH AS WHEN I AM MERGING ON TO THE HIGHWAY. I FILED CASE # 10854550 ON 4/9/16 FOLLOWING AN ACTIVE BRAKING SYSTEM MALFUNCTION WHERE MY VEHICLE BRAKED ON ITS OWN WITH NO VEHICLES OR OTHER OBSTACLES IN MY PATH ON 3/31/16. FOLLOWING THIS INCIDENT, I WENT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE WITH A SERVICE ADVISOR WHO CHECKED FOR ERROR CODES (THERE WERE NONE) AND EXPLAINED THAT THIS MODEL AND YEAR OF JEEP HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE ACTIVE BRAKING FEATURE, STATING THAT KEEPING THE CAMERA CLEAN CAN HELP, AND HE PROCEEDED TO CLEAN MY CAMERA. BUT BECAUSE THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE, I DID NOT LEAVE MY VEHICLE FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. AT THE TIME OF THIS INCIDENT, MY NOT YET NINE MONTH OLD SON WAS IN THE CAR WITH ME, SO TO AVOID ANY SAFETY CONCERNS SURROUNDING THIS BRAKING FEATURE, I TURNED THE ACTIVE BRAKING SETTING OFF IN MY CAR TO DISABLE THE FEATURE. THE FEATURE HAS REMAINED OFF SINCE THAT TIME. HOWEVER ON 1/9/17 I WAS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC AT A RED SIGNAL. THE LIGHT CHANGED TO GREEN SO I PROCEEDED TO MOVE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME HESITATED IN MOVING FORWARD, SO I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS. BEFORE I HAD THE CHANCE TO USE THE BRAKE, THE COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM WENT OFF AND THE ACTIVE BREAKING FEATURE ENGAGED. I WAS SHOCKED, TO SAY THE LEAST. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND CHECKED MY VEHICLE SETTINGS. THE FEATURE WAS SUPPOSEDLY STILL TURNED OFF. AT THIS POINT I WAS EXTREMELY WORRIED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY NOW 1.5 YEAR OLD SON WHO WAS ONCE AGAIN WITH ME, SO I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO RECREATE THE ISSUE, AND THEREFORE NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO ADDRESS IT. I HAD PREVIOUSLY COME TO TERMS WITH THE FACT THAT I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO USE ONE OF THE VERY USEFUL SAFETY FEATURES OF MY VEHICLE DUE TO ITS KNOWN MALFUNCTION, HOWEVER NOW I AM AT A LOSS AS I AM CLEARLY UNABLE TO DISABLE THE FEATURE AND HAVE ANY CONFIDENCE IN KNOWING THAT IT WILL NOT ENGAGE ANYWAY.

I WAS ABLE TO CHASE THE VEHICLE DOWN AND GET IT STOPPED (FORTUNATELY THE RIDING MOWER KEPT IT FROM GOING ON THRU). I HAD THIS VEHICLE IN PARK. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY YOU CAN GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE IF IT IS NOT. IT WILL IMMEDIATELY TAKE OFF WHEN YOUR FOOT IS OFF THE BRAKE. IT EVEN HAS A SLIGHT FORWARD ROLL WHEN YOU HAVE IT IN PARK AND TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE THAT GETS MY ATTENTION. I NOTIFIED JEEP AND THEY INSPECTED. WAS TOLD BY THE INSPECTOR A FAULT WAS FOUND, BUT ONLY "JEEP ENGINEERS KNOW WHAT THE CODE MEANS". I HAD TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE 3 HOURS TO WHERE I PURCHASED IT TO MEET WITH THE INSPECTOR AS WELL. AT THAT TIME THEY DID THE REPAIR FOR THE GEAR SHIFT THAT WAS AVAILABLE (I ONLY RECEIVED THE CARD THAT THERE WAS A FIX IN THE WORKS). I WAS TOLD BY THE INSPECTOR THAT THE FIX WOULD MAKE THE VEHICLE STOP WHEN THE DOOR WAS OPENED WHEN NOT IN PARK. WE TESTED THIS ONCE I PICKED MY VEHICLE UP AT A HOME DEPOT PARKING LOT AND GUESS WHAT, IT DID NOT STOP. WE WENT FORWARD AND OPENED DOOR AND WE WENT IN REVERSE WITH DOOR OPENED AND NEITHER WORKED. TRIED AGAIN AFTER A 3 HOUR DRIVE HOME ON THE DRIVE WAY, BOTH TIMES IT DID NOT WORK. THE FOLLOWING MORNING I TESTED BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, THAT TIME IT BOLTED INTO PARK. TESTED AGAIN AT ANOTHER DRIVE WAY, IT DID NOT WORK THE FIRST TWO TRIES AND THEN DID ON THE LAST TRY. THIS IS ALL BESIDE THE POINT OF MY INCIDENT. . I HAVE $9,000 DOLLARS DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE AND $1000 TO MY GARAGE THAT THEY WON'T FIX OR REPLACE. THEY KNOW THEY HAVE A DEFECTIVE GEAR SHIFT.

THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THE FORWARD COLLISION WARNING (FCW) AND ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL (ACC) SYSTEMS 1) SYSTEM WILL ISSUE FALSE BRAKE WARNINGS (AND APPLY BRAKES IF ENABLED) ON CLEAR STRAIGHT ROADS WITH NO OTHER CARS OR OBSTRUCTIONS. 2) SYSTEM WILL DISABLE ITSELF AT RANDOM INTERVALS DISABLE ITSELF FOR A PERIOD OF TIME (10-20 MINUTES). ONLY NOTIFICATION IS BRIEF "FCW/ACC SYSTEM DISABLED" NOTIFICATION IN GAUGE CLUSTER - NO AUDIO WARNING THAT IMPORTANT SAFETY SYSTEM DISABLED ITSELF. 3) WHEN USING ACC, WHEN VEHICLE RESUMES SET SPEED AFTER AUTONOMOUS BRAKING, VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE INTO BACK OF NEXT VEHICLE AHEAD - HAVE TO MANUALLY INTERVENE AND APPLY BRAKES TO PREVENT COLLISION. NOTE THAT THIS VEHICLE USES A BOSCH LRR3 RADAR SENSOR SYSTEM FOR THE FCW AND ACC FEATURES. VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO JEEP DEALERS FOR SERVICE FOR THIS ISSUE FIVE TIMES, AND EVEN AFTER OPENING STAR CASE WITH JEEP/CHRYSLER FCA, STILL NO FIX FOR THIS SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.
