CV BOOTS ARE NOT PROPERLY SECURED RESULTING IN THE EXPOSURE OF CV SHAFT TO THE ELEMENTS AND LOSS OF GREASE. NOTIFIED RICK HENDRICK JEEP IN CHARLESTON, SC. THE PART IS ON BACKORDER AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL REPLACEMENT SHAFT ARRIVED. *JS
ON MAY 9, 2014 MY HUSBAND & I WERE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE SEAT BELT & AIRBAG LIGHTS STARTED ALARMING. I IMMEDIATELY REFERENCED OUR VEHICLE GUIDE AND FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS, CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP RIGHT AWAY. MY CAR WAS EVALUATED 3 DAYS LATER AND I WAS INFORMED THAT MY ENTIRE AIRBAG MODULE WAS NON-FUNCTIONAL AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT HAS NOW BEEN A MONTH THAT I HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITHOUT FUNCTIONAL AIRBAGS BECAUSE THE PART IS APPARENTLY ON BACK ORDER AT CHRYSLER. NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO DISABLE THE ALARMS WHILE AWAITING THE FIX, SO I HAVE TO DRIVE WITH THE DISTRACTION OF CONSTANT "DINGING" EVERYWHERE I GO. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN! IN GENERAL, THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN A PAIN SINCE I PURCHASED IT!! THREE RECALLS IN ONE YEAR, A TIRE THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED JUST AFTER PURCHASE (PRETTY SURE IT HAD A HOLE WHEN WE DROVE IT OFF THE LOT), AND NOW THIS. I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE AGAIN. *TR
I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ON 4/29/14. ON 5/8/14 (694 MILES), I NOTICED BLACK GREASE ALL OVER THE INSIDE OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION, I COULD SEE GREASE LEAKING FROM THE CV BOOT ALL OVER THE WHEEL, AXLE, SHOCK AND OTHER SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND A REPLACEMENT HALF AXLE SHAFT WAS ORDERED TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE ONE. I RECEIVED THE VEHICLE BACK WITH THE NEW HALF AXLE SHAFT ON 5/13/14. TWO DAYS LATER, ON 5/15/14 (817 MILES), I NOTICED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND ANOTHER REPLACEMENT HALF AXLE SHAFT WAS ORDERED. HOWEVER, THE PART IS NOW ON BACK ORDER AND THERE IS NO ESTIMATE FROM THE DEALER ON WHEN IT WILL BE AVAILABLE. THE DEALER WILL NOT RELEASE THE VEHICLE BACK TO ME UNTIL THE DEFECTIVE HALF AXLE SHAFT IS REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE LEAKING GREASE COULD GET ON THE BRAKE DISCS WHICH WOULD RESULT IN PROBLEMS STOPPING THE VEHICLE AND COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE ACCIDENTS AND/OR SERIOUS INJURIES. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AMONG NEW JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OWNERS. HUNDREDS OF AFFECTED OWNERS ARE DISCUSSING THE PROBLEM ON INTERNET FORUMS (SEE HTTP://WWW.JEEPGARAGE.ORG/F73/GREASE-IN-BOTH-FRONT-WHEELS-NORMAL-73976.HTML AND HTTP://WWW.JEEPFORUM.COM/FORUM/F309/FACTORY-DEFECT-WARNING-GREASE-FRONT-WHEELS-3-14-BUILD-DATE-2352729/). THE DODGE DURANGO USES THE SAME FRONT AXLE PARTS AS THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SO BOTH VEHICLES ARE AFFECTED BY THIS DEFECT. THERE ARE LIKELY THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE DRIVING THESE VEHICLES WITH NO IDEA THAT THE FRONT AXLES ARE DEFECTIVE. JEEP/DODGE/CHRYSLER HAS DONE NOTHING TO NOTIFY AFFECTED OWNERS OR REMEDY THIS ISSUE. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V483000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL , SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,800.

WE PURCHASED JEEP ON APRIL 27TH, WE LOVE IT THEN FEW DAYS LATER, THE DRIVER CV AXLE WENT OFF AND SPILLED THE GREASE OVER WHEEL... TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP AND WAITED FOR WHOLE ONE WEEK TO REPLACE THE DRIVER'S... SO, I ASKED THEM TO REPLACE BOTH FOR ONCE BUT THEY SAID NO. SO OTHER ONE WEEK LATER, PASSENGER SIDE WENT OUT... TOOK 2 DAYS. ONLY 650 MILES THAT TIME. SO, AT 950 MILES, WE SAW SOME SMOKE COMING OUT FROM INTERIOR TRUNK. IT TURNED OUT THAT THE BULB TOUCHES THE INTERIOR TRUNK COVER AND IT CURRENT GOT A HOLE WITH PLASTIC BURNT. ALL UNDER 1K MILE?!? SO, WE CONTACTED CHRYSLER CARE LAST FRIDAY AND HEAR NOTHING FROM THEM.... *TR

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,500.
I HAVE A 5 DAY OLD CAR AND THE CV BOOT ON THE FRONT TIRE HAS COME OFF, SPREADING AXLE GREASE ALL OVER THE BRAKES AND OTHER PARTS OF THE AXLE. THE DEALER SERVICE REP SAYS IT IS UNSAFE. OBSERVED GREASE SPLATTERED ON THE INSIDE OF BOTH FRONT WHEELS. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY DETERMINED THE CAR NEEDED TO HAVE ITS AXLES REPLACED. BELIEVE BOTH CV BOOTS FAILED SPILLING GREASE ONTO WHEELS AND AXLES. *TR

HIT A PUDDLE AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH AND SHORTLY AFTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND SERVICE DEF SYSTEM - SEE DEALER MESSAGE APPEARED ON DASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND TOLD THE DEF (DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID) INJECTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DRIVEN UNTIL IT WAS REPAIRED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, WITHOUT WARNING, THE AIRBAG NEEDS SERVICE INDICATOR AS WELL AS THE DRIVER SEAT BUCKLE IS NOT FASTENED LIGHT CAME ON. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS ANOTHER FAILURE WITH THE ON BOARD PHONE REQUIRING SERVICE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE AIR BAG SENSOR WAS ON BACK ORDER AND DID NOT KNOW WHEN IT WOULD ARRIVE. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED THAT THIS PART IS NOT STOCKED. THE DRIVER SEAT BUCKLE IS NOT FASTENED BEEPS FOR SEVERAL MILES BEFORE IT ULTIMATELY STOPS. VERY ANNOYING. I WOULD THINK JEEP WOULD ENSURE THAT THIS PART WAS ALWAYS IN STOCK WITH ITS DEALERS SINCE IT IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE OVERALL SAFETY OF THE DRIVER IN THE VEHICLE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER SENT AN ENGINEER TO FURTHER INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,200.
WHILE TRAVELING HOME FROM A FAMILY VACATION AT ABOUT 40 MPH MY SEAT BELT LIGHT STARTED FLASHING SAYING THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR SEAT BELT WAS NOT ENGAGED ALONG WITH THE LIGHTS AND DINGING ALARM SAYING THAT THE AIR BAG IS IN NEED OF SERVICE, THIS HAS NOT GONE OFF AND THE DINGING IS CONSTANT. I CALLED AND SET UP AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WAITED 4 HOURS FOR THEM TO TELL ME THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE ISSUE THAT IT WAS ON BACK ORDER (AT LEAST 1 1/2 WEEKS) BUT WOULD NOT BE PROVIDING A RENTAL CAR SINCE THE CAR WAS STILL DRIVE ABLE AND THAT THEY WOULD CALL WHEN THE PART WAS IN. I AM VERY UPSET BECAUSE I AM IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY AND KNOW THAT THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN/ RISK. I HAVE ALSO BEEN EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH MY TRANSMISSION. I REGRET MAKING THIS PURCHASE. *TR
THE DEF INJECTOR FOR THE 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ECODIESEL IS LOCATED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE BEHIND THE REAR WHEELS. IT IS VERY BRITTLE AND SENSITIVE AND IF A ROCK OR SPLASHING WATER FROM THE TIRE HITS THE INJECTOR IT WILL BREAK. THE JEEP WILL THEN GIVE ONLY 200 MILES TO THE DRIVER AND THEN WON'T START. THIS SEVERELY AFFECTS THE CONFIDENCE OF LONG DISTANCE TRAVEL OF THE DRIVER. THERE IS NO SKID PLATE OR PROTECTIVE PANEL TO MITIGATE THIS ISSUE EXCEPT IT BREAKING AND GETTING IT FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. EVEN WITH THE OPTIONAL OFF ROAD PACKAGES DOES IT NOT GET A PROTECTIVE PANEL. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A GUARDRAIL WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE ABRUPTLY CUT THE CONTACT OFF. THE VEIHCLE WAS THROWN 15 FEET INTO THE AIR AND THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE CRASHED NOSE-FIRST INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE THEN FLIPPED OVER AND A CHILD PASSENGER WAS PARTIALLY EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CHILD'S UPPER BODY THEN BECAME PLUNGED UNDERWATER IN THE EMBANKMENT. THE CHILD SUSTAINED BRUISES TO THE HEAD AND LUNG FAILURE FROM ALMOST DROWNING. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BACK INJURIES AND A FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED NECK INJURIES. ALL OF THE VEHCLE OCCUPANTS REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE AND THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. RACKS AND RECREATIONAL OBJECTS SUCH AS KAYAKS, CANOES, SURF BOARDS AND BIKES ARE ATTACHED TO THE RACKS THAT ARE IN TURN ATTACHED TO THE FLUSH RAIL. THE FLUSH RAIL FAILED AND TWO KAYAKS WERE PULLED OFF THE ROOF DURING MILD TO MODERATE DESERT WINDS. THIS FAILURE RESULTED IN TWO KAYAKS AND THE THULE RACK EQUIPMENT BEING THROWN OFF THE ROOF ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THE ROOF RAILS ARE ONLY ATTACHED TO THE ROOF WITH COMPRESSION NUTS AND THE ROOF IS NOT REINFORCED IN THE AREA OF THE FLUSH RAILS. THIS DESIGN IS SERIOUSLY UNDER ENGINEERED AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THE THULE RACKS AND STRAPS HELD THE KAYAKS TOGETHER WHICH RESULTED IN 100 POUNDS OF KAYAK, APPROXIMATE 17 FEET BY 4 FEET THROWN IN THE PATH OF ONCOMING VEHICLES. WHILE ENTERING A BUSY INTERSTATE AND ACCELERATING FROM A STOP TO 65 MPH ON THE ONRAMP, THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE DRIVE TRAIN BEGAN SHUDDERING VIOLENTLY AND WOULD NOT STOP. IT FELT LIKE THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING OVER SEVERE BUMPS IN THE ROAD YET THE SURFACE WAS FREE OF DEFECTS. I WAS DISORIENTED BY THE SHAKING SENSATION WHICH WOULD STOP IF I DECELERATE BUT RETURNED IMMEDIATELY WHEN ACCELERATING TO MERGE. I WAS FORCED OFF THE ROAD BY FASTER TRAFFIC AND MY INABILITY TO SPEED UP. I HAD TO STOP ON THE ROADSIDE AND ATTEMPT TO MERGE AGAIN WHEN TRAFFIC CLEARED. MY RE-ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE CAUSED SHUDDERING AGAIN AT 45 MPH. I PULLED OVER AGAIN AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. I RESTARTED AND, ON MY THIRD ATTEMPT, ACCELERATED VERY AGGRESSIVELY WITH THE VEHICLE SHUDDERING AT 45 MPH UP TO 65 MPH. WHEN I QUITE ACCELERATING TH E SHUDDER QUIT. THIS VIOLENT DRIVE TRAIN SHUDDER HAS OCCURRED OFTEN SINCE THEN. I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS OCCURS MOST OFTEN IN THE FIRST 10 MILES OF OPERATION AND I CAN MINIMIZE THE SHUDDER WHEN IT OCCURS BY ACCELERATING AT FULL THROTTLE WHICH IS UNSAFE. MY ONLINE RESEARCH INDICATES OTHERS ARE COMPLAINING OF THIS SAME ISSUE IN VARIOUS AUTO FORUMS. I HAVE HAD MY JEEP DEALER APPLY SERVICE UPDATES AND TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE BUT JEEP HAS YET TO FIX THIS ISSUE. I HAVE A LONG NARROW DRIVEWAY WITH A BIT OF A SLOPE TOWARD THE HOUSE. WHEN GOING OUT THE DRIVEWAY I SEEN A TRASH CONTAINER TIPPED OVER. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, LETTING IT IDLE, WHILE I EXITED THE VEHICLE TO REMOVE THE CONTAINER. LOOKING BACK I SEEN THE JEEP BACKING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY TOWARD THE HOUSE UNDER IT'S OWN POWER. I TRIED CATCH IT,BUT IT HIT THE SIDE OF THE HOME ON A GARAGE WALL. TOTAL DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE IS AROUND $9400 I'VE YET TO GET THE HOUSE DAMAGE ESTIMATE BACK. I DIDN'T SEE IF THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK OR REVERSE WHEN I EXITED. I PUSHED THE SHIFTER CLEAR FORWARD TILL IT STOPPED, THEN EXITED. THE SHIFTER HAS TO GO THRU REVERSE BEFORE IT GETS TO PARK. IN THE PAST I'VE NOTICED THAT IT DID NOT ALWAYS GO INTO PARK WHEN I HAD PUT IT THERE. I DRIVE LIKE NORMAL PEOPLE DRIVE. I HAVE 55+ YEARS OF DRIVING EXPERIENCE. WE SHIFT BY FEEL AND NOT ALWAYS LOOKING DOWN AT THE SHIFTER. WHEN A SHIFT LEVER GOES THRU THE MOTION FORWARD AND STOPS, WE EXPECT IT TO BE IN PARK, NOT REVERSE. THIS IS A MAJOR FLAW IN THE VEHICLE. I LOVE THE NEW 8 SPEED TRANSMISSION, BUT DON'T TRUST THE SHIFTING MECHANISM. MY WIFE IS VERY RELUCTANT TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. I'VE CONTACTED CHRYSLER ABOUT THE ISSUE. DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE FREEWAY WITH ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED. CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATED ON ITS OWN, MIL ILLUMINATED AND THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN SLIPPING SEVERELY RESULTING IN DRASTIC LOSS OF POWER AND VEHICLE SPEED IN INTERSTATE TRAFFIC. AT 1:00AM IN THE MORNING OF APRIL 3RD, OUR JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SLIPPED OUT OF PARK AND ROLLED BACKWARDS THRU OUR GARAGE. BROUGHT THE JEEP TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY. AFTER 5 DAYS THEY TALK TO CHRYSLER AND INFORMED US THEY HAD FOUND NO PROBLEMS. ON DECEMBER 25TH AT AROUND 9:00AM THE JEEP WAS AGAIN ON A HILL. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU HAVE PROPERLY ENGAGED PARK FEATURE. I HAVE GOTTEN ONE LEG OUT OF CAR WHILE AUTO STARTS MOVING.THIS ELECTRONIC FEATURE IS UNSAFE. CHRYSLER STATED THERE WAS CORROSION PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE BOOSTER, CAUSED BY A SMALL AMOUNT EXPOSED, UNCOATED SURFACE AT THE CRIMP JOINTS, THAT ALLOWED WATER TO ENTER THE BOOSTER AND FREEZE. CHRYSLER STATED IF WATER DID NOT ENTER THE BOOSTER, THERE COULD STILL BE A LOSS OF VACUUM THAT WOULD REQUIRE THE DRIVER TO PUSH HARDER THAN NORMAL TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE. ON 3/27/14, MY BRAND NEW 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SPONTANEOUSLY BURST INTO FLAMES AND ALMOST GOT IN MY FACE. AFTER SMELLING AND SEEING SMOKE, I PULLED OVER INTO A DIRT PARKING LOT AT A BUSINESS AND THE DASHBOARD OF MY NEW VEHICLE BURST INTO FLAMES, AFTER I HEARD A "WOOSH."
