The front seat belts will not retract. Part seems to be broken. Jeep says not a safety issue and it will be a month till they can fix it. I asked how am I supposed to drive with a seat belt that doesn’t work/ response was- I don’t know. The vehicle has 103105 miles.
The capless gas system is cheap and coming out of the car. It leaks gas out of the bottom and every shop ignores me. I have found multiple conversations online with people having the same problem. This should be recalled. The system was redesigned three times in one year. It is poor engineering. It causes my car to throw codes over and over to no relief.it had happened multiple times over my past two years owning it.
The dashboard of the vehicle has delaminated, with the leather covering bubbling and warping. The uneven surface causes significant glare at certain sun angles to be reflected into the eyes of the driver. The dealership has inspected the vehicle and noted that Jeep had briefly extended the warrenty on the component due to known issues, but refuses to honor a repair or replacement outside of that warrenty period. The vehicle was purchased in this condition so it is unclear when the damage occurred.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Engine Failure and Lack of Accountability by the Manufacturer Dear NHTSA, I am writing to bring to your attention a distressing situation regarding the Jeep Grand Cherokee and its e$th ongine issues. I have been experiencing an ongoing nightmare with my vehicle, which was supposed to be covered by a 100,000-mile engine warranty. However, after only 8,000 miles, the engine suffered a catastrophic failure, and Jeep has chosen not to take responsibility for the problem. It is evident that this engine has a significant factory defect, as my research has revealed numerous cases of the same issue. Many owners have faced similar engine failures, and it is disheartening to see that Jeep has not acknowledged this widespread problem. Compounding the issue is the lack of available spare parts for the necessary repairs. As a result, my vehicle has become inoperable, leaving me with a substantial financial burden and an unusable car. I am writing to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) with the hope that you can investigate this matter further. The safety and well-being of consumers are at stake, and it is crucial to address this issue promptly and thoroughly to prevent further incidents and ensure accountability from the manufacturer. I kindly request that the NHTSA launches an inquiry into the Jeep Grand Cherokee's engine problems, assesses the extent of the defects, and holds Jeep accountable for their failure to address these issues appropriately. Your support in rectifying this matter would be greatly appreciated by the affected owners and the wider community. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any additional information regarding my case. I look forward to your prompt response and assistance in resolving this troubling situation. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, Luis Garcia
While driving vehicle it doesn't matter if it is highway speeds or street speeds , transmission shifts into neutral and makes car stall. Almost got into at least 4 accidents because of the issue , glad drivers behind me were paying attention and quickly avoid the accident. I have to wait at least ten minutes before car will start again, during those ten minutes car will try to start but without luck. No check engine light , been to at least 5 different shops and no one can say what is wrong because check engine light is not on. And issue happens randomly and technicians Haven't been able to replicate issue. It is a safety hazard. I know jeep Cherokee have a recall for something similar. But it doesn't apply to mine since mine is a Grand Cherokee. Model before mine 2011 to 2013 have a recall for a similar issue but it doesn't apply to mine because mine is a 2014.
Computer system on dash started flashing & going out while driving telling me to turn engine off engage in park is disabled . Would let me shift gears making loud noise in engine
Car is not reporting accurate speed, 20mph or more on display and shifting my be affected
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled with the battery warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V435000 (Electrical System) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.
My son started the Jeep Monday morning and the engine light came on which has never happened before. Then something occurred under the hood and there was a fire. Luckily my son was able to get to a garden hose and put out the fire but now I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has fire damage and needs to be taken into a Jeep dealership for repairs. I have only had the vehicle for a little over 2 years.
On several occasions, while driving between 30 - 70 miles per hour - car goes into neutral by itself leaving you trying to steer the car to the side of the road under multiple risky situations. When pulled over - car can be put into park but if your foot is on the brake pedal the car sputters and won't shut off until brake pedal is released. You can still steer the car to the side of the road but no acceleration is possible. Restarting the car isn't possible for about 20 - 30 minutes. Most occurrence have happened on the interstate. There are no warning signs prior to the occurrences and it's extremely scary trying to get to safety. Diagnostics have been completed by Jeep dealerships and other repair shops and it's been stated all recalls have been made to this car in the past. The fact the car goes into neutral itself is scary. The most recent event puts the total of occurrences at 15 since I have owned the car. No one seems to have an explanation --all I know is its very dangerous especially on the freeway. I would like to know what can be done to get this resolved before someone get hurt.
The right cylinder head is misfiring and needs repair. NHTSA previously investigated complaints on the left cylinder head. MOPAR issued a warranty bulletin (D-14-12) on June 10, 2014 for 2011 - 2013 model vehicles for left cylinder head extended warranty coverage period of 10 years/150K miles. Upon my further investigation, the cylinder heads misfiring is a known issue on model years beyond 2013, yet Mopar has not issued an extended warranty bulletin. The cost to repair it is thousands of dollars. My model year 2014 was manufactured in 2013. If this is not repaired, it will do permanent damage to the catalytic converter, and beyond. The dealer inspected the vehicle and confirmed malfunction. No prior warnings given prior to cylinder head misfire, when it happened the Check Engine Light came on.
The lower radiator hose clamp failed due to corrosion. This resulted in a loss of coolant which could lead to engine damage or complete failure. There was no indication that eh cooling system was leaking other than the loss of fluid in the coolant overflow tank. This type of spring clamp is used on many vehicles and in 40 years of working on cars have never seen one fail in this manner. Many otehr vehicles may use this clamp and I am sure it has been affected by weather here in the NE.
The Jeep will just get locked in either 1st or 5th gear. Which has almost caused me to wreck multiple times. From doing my own research I understand that is has been a problem with 2014-2015 year jeeps. I find it very disappointing that nothing has been done to recall these vehicles in order to have the issues resolved.
Engine oil cooler (OEM part number ) 68525212AA failed. Causing significant power loss on freeway. Had to immediately pull over on freeway with no warning. Oil temp causes car to have significant power loss and extremely unresponsive engine also while on freeway causing me to slow well below suggested speed and speed of traffic. The steam caused by coolant loss onto side of engine made it difficult to see out window. Also the temps got so hot that it burnt some heat shielding on a upper hose on engine and the engine padding melted to the top of the engine. it has been inspected by a professional mechanic and replacement of failed part will be installed by the dealership after part is available. Currently on back order. No warning lamps came on prior to engine power loss after my family pulled over the temperature gauge responded. After looking through the digital gauges the you can switch through - (however are not displayed while driving and cannot be switched while in motion.) the oil temp had been maxed out and maxed out prior to the coolant temp increasing above normal levels.
Turn signal malfunction. Right turn signal will not reset. Vehicle indicates a continuous right turn signal when in operation. Have had at least two instances where traffic has pulled out in front of me assuming I was intending to make a right turn. Dealer has diagnosed the problem to be a defective AIR BAG CLOCKSPRING (Jeep part number 1NJ70DX9AI). Copy of dealer inspection and repair report attached
Driving 20-25 MPH, Stopped at a stop sign. Accelerated , then all instrument panel lights started flashing ,then went out of gear. I let off accelerator , then re-accelerated. Got the car home, a short distance. Was not able to put SUV into park. Engaged parking brake. Hours later started car up and was able to place into Park mode. Engine light stays on now.
While sitting in my car with with it running in a parking spot my passenger side active headrest retention system failed and the headrest deployed violently. Luckily no one was sitting in the passenger seat however this could have caused serious injury of death had the seat been occupied. Upon further investigation by myself I noticed that the metal retention bar was still in place however the plastics that is supposed to secure the bar to the mechanism the bar has broken
Something is wrong with 2speed transfer case
Passenger side front seat headrest (active head restraint) deployed for no reason while sitting at a stop sign.
This happened to me today. I was driving and heard a really loud pop/ rattle noise (almost took me off the road it was so abrupt) and thought maybe it was something that hit my car on the road. Sound nearly took me off the road. I pulled over and after inspection I noticed the driver headrest had deployed and the clip is broke. This seems like a SERIOUS safety hazard. It is available for inspection upon request. The headrest has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representative or others as it just happened today. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.
The head rest on the passenger side has dismantled. I believe it’s an air bag system but am not too sure. The cushion and the plastic part have split and show a few wires. I have not been in any type of collision for the head rest to go ahead and give out like that.
The head rest deployed into the back of my head while driving through an intersection. No collision. No bumps. No contact. Smooth driving and then it deployed. It’s a hard and shocking deployment that hits you in the back of the head very aggressively causing my head jolt forward from the impact.
While highway driving at 62 mph the passengers seat head rest suddenly blew apart with a loud bang, This scared both my wife and I as it was totally unexpected. We found ourselves looking all around trying to figure out what had happened. This was a totally dangerous distraction. There were no bumps in the road or any indication that would of caused the problem. Upon inspection it looks like a small plastic piece holding a metal pin broke. It has not been taken to a dealer yet. It is available for inspection, but I hope to get it fixed shortly.
2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. CONSUMER WRITES SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS MADE RELATED TO NHTSA SAFETY RECALL. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE HAD BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE DIED WHILE IT WAS BEING DRIVEN. ALSO, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING DURING THIS INCIDENT.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 75 MPH, the front, passenger side headrest deployed without warning. The contact's wife was sitting in the front passenger seat during the failure and was hit in the back of the head. The contact stated his wife had experienced headaches since the incident but had yet to seek medical attention. The contact notified the dealer of the incident but was offered no assistance. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 153,000.
Driving down the road in the middle of the night- the entire dash went black and only warning lights blinking across. Several error messages appeared and went black again.
Dash board leather cover bubbling de lamanting. Causing stange reflections in windshield while driving.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while the vehicle was receiving routine maintenance at the local dealer, the contact was informed that the motor mounts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the parts being on backorder. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 69,300.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and it was confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that while driving at 75 MPH, an abnormal popping sound was coming from the engine and the vehicle started to lose motive power. Simultaneously, several unknown warning lights appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle failed to accelerate upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The contact was able to coast the vehicle to the shoulder of the highway. The contact made multiple attempts to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer where it remained in their possession. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure and the contact was given a case number. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The passenger side headrest popped out violently by itself. Was driving up the interstate when the headrest randomly popped out. The headrest is unable to be reset. This could have been a very dangerous issue had someone been sitting in the passenger seat when the active headrest system deployed.
My passenger side headrest deployed randomly while my girlfriend was in the seat. She currently has a headache, we are looking into this further and what steps should be taken. Vehicle was driving maybe 10 mph when this took place. I understand this design for deployment is supposed to take place during an accident to protect the passenger from whiplash. Again, this incident took place randomly (no accident) A plastic clip broke off, causing the headrest to spring and deploy. This is a dangerous safety design flaw and Jeep should have a recall for this component. There were NO warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The incident occurred on August 4, 2022.
I was driving my car this afternoon when the car automatically slipped into neutral, thankfully I had just gotten off the main road and was on a gravel road. The car literally came to a halt, stopped, I could not restart, and the steering wouldn't move. I was able to get the car towed to a local garage, who said the issue was more than likely the fuse box, they will not touch it as they believed there may be a recall for the fuse box. I have searched for recalls via my vin, and I do not see a recall for my specific car for this issue, but do see that this has been an issue. How are recalls identified? I have a call into a Jeep Dealership and I am hoping to get an appointment tomorrow and get the car towed once more. This truly was a safety issue as if I was on the highway that I had just left I would have been driving at 55MPH. I do not have an estimate as I am working to secure an appointment with the dealership.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the contact became aware that the headlights illumination was very dim. The contact checked to verify that the headlight was in the on position. The contact stated the high beam was activated and the vehicle then lost headlights functionality temporarily before regaining headlights functionality. On another occasion, she drove over a speed bump and the high beam headlights turned on independently. The vehicle was taking to the dealer several times but no cause for the failure was found. The manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 59,000. The contact stated that the solution was to replace the headlight bulbs and repairs have been made.
This has happened three (3) times to me. The instrument cluster on my 2014 jeep Grand Cherokee just blackouts and the windshield wipers go on, then multiple cluster warning lights illumination and a loss of anti-lock brake system (ABS) / electronic stability control system function stops. The vehicle slows down because of loss of power. A loss of instrument cluster illumination and/or loss of ABS function while driving could cause a crash.
Headrest popped open out of nowhere driving down the road. Luckily I was leaning forward
While driving down the road the vehicle lost power. No warning lights had come on prior to losing power. Luckily I was able to get it pulled over off the road before it died completely. After that it would not start but the check engine light was now on. I had vehicle towed to a shop close to my house. After the shop’s diagnostics, I was informed the problem was the high pressure fuel pump.
Severe oil leak and oil loss from engine. Unknown source of leak.
My vehicle has a recall with the parts not available, I crash without prior warning, and injured. I have contact FCA US and other customer care numbers provided. My vehicle was repaired for the outer damage due to the collision, but my vehicle does not pass emission due to parts not being available. My car is drivable with very little power and can only drive a very low speed and locally. I have called about this matter for over a month and afraid that I will get in to another accident. I have not received information on when parts will be available. I had it checked and most probable other components require replacing due to the recall. This put me at risk and could have put my children at risk.
With less than 16,000 miles, the driver side seat belt just stopped recoiling. Wife stated one day when she got back from running errands, she unbuckled the seat belt after driving and heard a click noise and the seat belt did not retract. Ever since then the seat does not retrack and whenever someone drives the car, they need to ensure the seat belt is placed within the car so it does not get caught in the door being closed. This will only work for so long until it gets caught in the door before the belt gets frayed and is degraded.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle stalled with the check engine and various other unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that she pulled over and the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was then towed to a local dealer who diagnosed that the high-pressure fuel pump and fuel related components needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer awaiting the parts. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.
There is a known issue with the seat belt frame latching unit part #1vl07dx9ag for the driver and the front passenger seats. This issue prompted Jeep to provide an extended warranty to fix faulty units. The bigger problem here is, the parts are back ordered for weeks and months. As this is a seat belt operational issue, and a major safety defect, this should be a recall and not a warranty item. I have been waiting since July 20 for the part to be installed. My front seat belts, both sides, do not tighten or retract and I risk serious injury in the event of a collision. Jeep must be held responsible to provide the parts to all dealerships as a backstock item, given that this is (in the words of my Jeep Service Center) not a matter of if but when the part fails. NHTSA should convert the warranty status to recall, similar to the recent recalls on other vehicles having seat belt issues.
While on freeway at 50 mph. My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 3.0 diesel ,. loss motive power. I was very fortunate to not crash the vehicle, but the situation was horrifying! I received the recall notice for the HPFP ( High pressure Fuel Pump) , Z46/ NHTSA 22V- 406 but Crystler Corp doesn't have the part available to fix. Iam currently have a loan on my vehicle and can't drive it!
Having issues with Jeep stalling and loss of acceleration . Dealer says there isn’t a fix yet? Recall but no fix? Please advise what to do if it completely fails. [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Both driver and passenger seat belts have issues with retracting.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
There has been a safety recall since June of 2022 out on my car, and the manufacturer has failed to provide a timely remedy for the situation. I have since taken it to have work done for a permanent code (caused by the recall), and spent time and money trying to resolve the safety issue that the manufacturer has failed to. I am concerned that I am driving a car with a safety issue that has not yet been resolved after nearly 9 months.
The AHR on the driver's side activated while the vehicle was parked and the driver was hit in the neck. Upon inspection, the plastic tabs that keep the pin in place, keeping the whole apparatus in the off position, broke off.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while attempting to open the liftgate manually, the liftgate failed to operate as designed. The contact was however able to use the key fob to operate the liftgate. The contact stated whenever the vehicle was not in use the battery would be drained. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V393000 (Structure). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,000.
While traveling on vacation, we pulled over at a gas station (thankfully I was not driving, for I believe I would have been in an accident). While sitting at the gas station, my drivers side Active Headrest Restraint deployed suddenly and struck me in the back of the head. I was leaning forward a bit and didn't receive the full blow, but it did cause me neck pain, a headache, and my left eye was throbbing.
The breaka locked up and i went to go around so i wouldnt hit the person in front of me. When i did the front axle cv joint totally snapped off the passenger side that hold the tire on. And i couldnt steer or anything
