Headrest deployed without warning. Have read online that this is a very common problem with an expensive fix. Luckily no one was sitting in seat when it deployed or could have caused injuries. If it happens to drivers seat while driving this could be a very dangerous situation.
Passenger and driver side front seat seat belt fail to retract once extended, resulting in excess seat belt material across the body, and thus possibility of a delayed or insufficient tensioner reaction in an event. Vehicle is subject to a warranty extension for a similar concern (slow retraction), but after inspection by an authorized dealership, it was determined that the seat belts upper D-ring does not exhibit the damage that the warranty extension was released for. However, upon inspection it was found that other plastic routing components on the seat belt have begun to crack, fail, and separate. As this other damage was not specifically addressed in the warranty extension, no coverage for this defect applies.
On 6/14/2021 I got in my vehicle and noticed the driver side headrest was deployed outward. I can see broken plastic clips inside.
The front passenger seat headrest safety mechanism malfunctioned causing it to deploy. This caused a severe head injury to the passenger. Major concern of the driver seat headrest having the same problem and potentially causing an accident. There were no warning signs prior to the incident.
The headrest popped while I was driving and caused my head to fly forward. Yes it can be inspected. No No No
Driver headrest exploded into the back of my head while I was driving on a two-lane road (Hopper in Santa Rosa CA). Impact caused me to lose consciousness for several seconds, and I woke up on the wrong side of the road still in motion with my 6 year old daughter in the back booster seat. This problem is reflected in NHTSA online literature, a certified class-action suit, and online notices about potential recall. Headrest is being replaced for free but the Jeep dealer didn't have any in stock and there is no timeline to get it fixed. Currently working with Kaiser Permanente insurance plan and medical staff to help with neck, head, and back pain, and continuing dizziness on and off every day since the incident.
We were entering the vehicle, as I was getting into the drivers seat there was a terrible noise beside my right ear and pressure on my head. At the same time my grandson was entering in the rear seat behind me and was hit in left ear area with an exploding Active headrest restraint. The car had been remotely started but was not actually running yet and was in park with nothing behind it. I had no idea of this potential hazard, we drive long distances with grandchildren in the rear seat and if this would have or if the passenger headrest explodes while driving, it could be catastrophic. This is not acceptable. They should be replaced immediately, not wait until they actually cause a catastrophy !!!! I would rather not be in constant fear of the next explosion in my car which could have far worse results.
I was driving the vehicle when my drivers headrest popped and hit the back of my head. I pulled over to see what happened and it looks as though the headrest exploded but nothing came out. I’m not sure if an airbag was supposed to deploy but it did not. Luckily because my son was in the back seat, not sure if air bag was suppose to deploy or not. I did not hit anything when it happened and I was just driving. Consumer has notified the dealer to get it repaired.*JB
The passenger side headrest exploded open for no reason and cannot be put back. I looks like the mechanism failed and it deployed open with a lot of force. Looking online seems to confirm this is an issue.
An inadvertent deployment of the active headrest in the front passenger seat. Plastic holding clips broken, seems due to material or manufacturer defect.
I was sitting in the passenger seat in my driveway with the vehicle off getting ready for my family to go to the store. The passenger head rest busted open causing my head and body to jerk forward.
In May 2021, the headrest on the passenger side of the car was noticed to be partially 'popped out' one afternoon. The next morning, after being parked all night, the headrest was fully popped out. There was no damage to the car prior and no accident whatsoever. This active headrest could have popped out while a passenger was in the car and hurt someone. The driver side has not popped out (yet) but now i'm concerned it could deploy while i'm driving. I have not taken the vehicle to the dealer/manufacturer yet, as the car is being driven very little over the past 18 months (covid, work from home, etc). There were no symptoms prior to failure, no accidents, no damage to the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while attempting to drive, there was a loud popping sound, and the vehicle would not accelerate or drive. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that the parts were on backorder. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000.
I have 34,000 miles on my keep I am the original owner and my tires have been rotated every 5,000 miles. The tread is cracking on every tire. Tire size is 265/59/20 Fortera hl. I called Goodyear and they will do nothing they say rotting is only warranted for 4 years. How can that be? It’s a 60,000 mile tire. I brought it to Goodyear in Jericho N.Y and was told by Sean there is nothing he could do. I was also in touch with Pamela Pringle from customer support and she never got back to me. It is unsafe to drive on those tires and Goodyear should replace them.
The driver's side cylinder head failed and engine oil began leaking down the engine and onto the exhaust pipes. The cylinder head was kept by the dealership and is not available for inspection. My safety was put at risk of a vehicle fire from the fresh oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold and piping. I could smell the burning oil and saw it dipping under my vehicle. The dealer did not say that this was a systemic problem, but it is well documented on the internet that this is a common problem from this model (2015) Jeep Grand Cherokee. The component was not inspected by anyone other than the dealership that determined it had to be replaced. The engine light came on letting me know there was an issue with the engine. I brought the vehicle to the dealership within a few days.
HEADREST RANDOMLY DEPLOYED.
THE DRIVERS SIDE HEADREST RETAINING MECHANISM FAILED WHILE WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. IT WAS A VIOLENT EVENT, THAT HIT ME IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD WHEN IT HAPPENED. THIS COULD REALLY CAUSE SOMEONE TO LOSE CONTROL OF THEIR VEHICLE. WE WERE ON A SURFACE STREET AND THANKFULLY NOT ON THE FREEWAY. WE HAD JUST FILLED UP WITH GAS AND HAD JUST TURNED RIGHT ONTO THE ROAD, MAYBE WENT 100 YARDS AND THAT IS WHEN IT BLEW. WE HAD JUST DRIVEN ABOUT 150 MILES PRIOR TO GETTING GAS.*DT
Check engine light on. Recall issued, dealership contacted, recall repaired. Check engine light off for approximately 2 weeks only. Check engine light on from then until present.

On April 23rd at 9:28pm I was driving my Jeep Grand Cherokee 2015 on a highway at approximately 45mph when suddenly the transmission slipped to neutral without any human interference. I tried shifting it back to drive but the transmission did not respond. The Jeep lost momentum very quickly and came to a complete stop in the highway. As soon as it went to a complete stop it locked itself in parking position and l lost all ability to put it back to drive. I turned my blinkers and emergency lights on, but one minute later I got rear-ended by a car traveling at 50mph. My Jeep Grand Cherokee 2015 got totaled and I was taken to the hospital in stable condition. I was in a bad collision due to the Jeep slipping into neutral and locking itself in parking. I lost ALL ability to control my Jeep. The jeep got towed to a safe location. Two weeks later, we needed to move the car to another area for the insurance inspection. The car turned on and moved, yet again when the car gained velocity, the gear slipped to neutral and again came to a complete stop it, locking the transmission in the parking position. I always took my car for regular maintenance and it was a very well kept Jeep Grand Cherokee 2015.
AIRBAG SERVICE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND CITY STREETS.
SERVICE SHIFTER IS COMING ON AND IT'S A SAFETY CONCERN AS I'M STRUGGLING TO SEE WHAT GEAR I AM IN. NONE OF THE GEAR INDICATORS LIGHT UP.
THE VEHICLE TAKES A LONG TIME TO TURN OVER TO PUSH TO START. SO YOU HAVE TO REDO IT AND TRY IT AGAIN. ALONG WITH US, THE TOUCHSCREEN TAKES A LONG TIME FOR FOR IT TO TURN ON. WHICH OBVIOUSLY THAT CONTROLS YOUR AC OR HEAT. I'VE GOTTEN A NEW BATTERY TWICE IN THE PAST FOUR MONTHS. I'M SCARED I'M GOING TO GO SOMEWHERE ONE DAY AND GET STRANDED. I'VE TAKEN MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAVE A WARRANTY ON MY CAR AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX ANYTHING ELSE EXCEPT PUT A BATTERY IN IT EVERY TIME. I HAVE A FULL COVERAGE WARRANTY ON MY JEEP BUT I CANNOT GET THEM TO FIX ANYTHING AND THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME I'VE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WON'T FIX ANYTHING ELSE.
DRIVING, LOST ALL POWER TO STEERING, BRAKES AND ENGINE. CROSSED OVER DOUBLE YELLOW AND NARROWLY ESCAPED A COLLISION WITH THE GUARDRAIL. HAD ANY CAR BEEN IN THE OPPOSITE LANE, I WOULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED. I AM A MOTHER OF TWO. IT WAS SUDDEN AS WITHOUT WARNING. ADDITIONALLY I HAD TO CALL OUT OF WORK HENCE LOSS OF INCOME.
I WAS PARKED WAITING FOR A DELIVERY WHEN SUDDENLY I HEAR A LOUD POP, THE HEAD REST POPPED OUT OF THE SOCKET. NO ACCIDENT CAUSED IT. ONLY THE DRIVER SIDE WAS DEPLOYED. THIS HAPPEN IN A SHOPPING PLACE PARKING LOT. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE TURNPIKE, THE PASSENGER HEADREST DEPLOYED WITH MY SON SITTING IN THE SEAT. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR WHY. IT WAS AN INSANE SHOCK TO THE BACK OF HIS HEAD.
HALO LIGHTS IN 2015 JEEP CHEROKEE WENT OUT. THIS IS NOT A LIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT. YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND IT IS $1600 FOR JUST THE PART. THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY SO WHEN I CALLED JEEP TO COMPLAIN THE PERSON I SPOKE WITH ADVISED ME THAT SHE GETS THIS COMPLAINT FREQUENTLY. LIGHTING ON THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR VEHICLE IS IMPORTANT. WHY WOULD JEEP PUT A PART ON A CAR THAT YOU CANNOT REPLACE OR CHANGE A BULB AND IF IT HAPPENS FREQUENTLY IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS IS A DEFECT OF SOME SORT.
MY DRIVERS SIDE HEADREST DEPLOYED AND THE PLASTIC PARTS ARE BROKEN SO IT WON'T GO BACK INTO PLACE. I WASN'T IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND IT HIT ME IN THE HEAD WHEN IT DEPLOYED.
I HAVE BEEN ON A WAITING LIST AT JEEP ONLY, LAS VEGAS, FOR 7 WEEKS TO REPAIR RECALL W79/NHTSA 20V-699. THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT DOES NOT RETURN TEXT MESSAGE OR PHONE CALLS. MY SERVICE ADVISOR JOSHUA GAVE A 5-WEEK LEAD TIME FOR REPAIR MID MARCH, 2021. JEEP ONLY 5255 W SAHARA AVE, LAS VEGAS NV 89146. PHONE 702-602-0090
WHILE PARKED, THE FRONT PASSENGER HEAD REST EXPLODED, PART OF A REAR-COLLISION SAFETY FEATURE AS I UNDERSTAND IT. CONCERN IS THIS COULD CAUSE HEAD/NECK INJURY OR WORSE IF IT OCCURS ON THE DRIVER SIDE WHILE DRIVING, THIS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V699000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). LARSON CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (2001 N. MERIDIAN, PUYALLUP, WA 98371, (253) 845-1725) WAS CONTACTED AND IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT PARTS WERE NOT YET AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE MANUFACTURER INSTRUCTED THE DEALER TO NOT PLACE ANY ADDITIONAL CUSTOMERS ON THE WAITING LIST DUE TO A HIGH VOLUME OF CUSTOMERS STILL AWAITING PARTS FOR THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT IT COULD BE UPWARDS OF NINE MONTHS TO BE ADDED TO THE LIST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
Glockner of Ashland KY has determined that both front seats belts will not retrace. I understand that the warranty is extended for 15 years. I have been waiting for several months, they tell me they are on back order. My wife drives this vehicle every and this is s serious safety issue. Thank you in advance for your help. Please help us. FORWARD FACING CAMERA BEHIND REARVIEW MIRROR DEVELOPED AN INTERNAL FAULT, WHICH TRIGGERED VEHICLE'S COMMUNICATION BUS TO NOT FUNCTION AT ALL. VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND COULD NOT BE JUMPSTARTED. NO INTERIOR LIGHTS OR ACCESSORIES FUNCTIONED. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED AND AFTER DIAGNOSES, THE DEALER DISABLED THE FORWARD FACING CAMERA TO MAKE MY VEHICLE OPERABLE AGAIN, BUT WITHOUT FUNCTIONALITY OF AUTO HIGH BEAMS AND FORWARD COLLISION WARNING AND FORWARD COLLISION ACTIVE BRAKING FEATURES. THE FORWARD FACING CAMERA IMPACTS AUTO HIGH BEAMS, FORWARD COLLISION WARNING, AND FORWARD COLLISION ACTIVE BRAKING FUNCTIONS, AT MINIMUM. HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO OBTAIN A REPLACEMENT PART DUE TO EITHER BACKORDER OR THE DEALER NOT SUFFICIENTLY SEARCHING SUPPLY CHAIN DESPITE REPEATED INQUIRIES.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE PUTTING FUEL IN MY CAR SINCE I BOUGHT IT. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS JUST A PROBLEM WITH JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE XJ. BECAUSE IT IS DIFFICULT TO FUEL UP, TWICE I HAVE SPRAYED FUEL ALL OVER MYSELF AND ONCE I HAD THE RENTS MYSELF WITH WATER. MY WARNING LIGHT IS A NOW ON . NOW THE CAPLESS FUEL CAP ASSEMBLY CAME OFF WHILE I WAS FEELING. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN FEEL UP ANYMORE MAKING THE CAR USELESS UNTIL REPAIRED
DRIVER'S SIDE HEADREST POPPED OPEN AND WILL NOT LATCH BACK IN PLACE. WAS NOT DRIVING AT THE TIME BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS HAD IT POPPED OPENED DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE AND I WAS IN THE GARAGE AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE, DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS AT THE TIME, BUT I THOUGHT IT CAME FROM THE CAR. SO I OPENED CAR DOOR AND LOOKED AROUND INSIDE CAR BUT DID NOT SEE AN OBVIOUS REASON FOR THE NOISE. THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I GOT IN THE CAR, I NOTICED THE HEADREST WAS TOUCHING THE BACK OF MY HEAD UNCOMFORTABLY SO I TURNED AROUND AND THAT IS WHEN I NOTICED THAT IT WAS POPPED OUT. TRIED TO CLOSE AND SECURE IT BACK IN PLACE BUT IT WILL NOT STAY. I AM NOW DRIVING AROUND WITH IT POPPED OPEN.
MY WIFE AND I OWN THIS CAR, WHICH IS TITLED TO HER. TODAY I TOOK IT TO A JEEP DEALER FOR STANDARD, 60,000 MILE MAINTENANCE. THE DEALER DISCOVERED THAT MY RADIATOR WAS LEAKING. I REPLACED IT AT A COST OF $1,026.97. THE DEALER IS ROCHESTER HILLS CHRYSLER, JEEP AND DODGE IN ROCHESTER HILLS, MI.
SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING, HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, 5 DAYS LATER THEY SAID NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT SO I TOOK IT HOME. A WEEK LATER, SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT CAME BACK ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A SIDE STREET, ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON, UNABLE TO CONTROL ANYTHING, LOST STEERING, THEN VEHICLE SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. TRIED TO TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON TO NO LUCK, SAT WAITING, THEN AFTER 15 MINS THE ACCESSORY ENGINE CAME ON, LIGHTS FLASHING, WINDSHIELD WIPERS GOING AND THE MESSAGE "DO NOT PARK UNTIL SAFE AT YOUR DESTINATION." TOOK THE JEEP STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP, DEALER PLUGS IT IS 70+ MISCOMMUNICATION ERRORS PULL UP. DEALER CALLS ME 3 DAYS LATER TO COME GET MY JEEP AND SAYS NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT AND THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSE IT UNLESS THEY SEE IT IN THE ACT. I REFUSE TO GO PICK IT UP AS THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG AND I AM NOT DRIVING IT WITH MY 9MONTH OLD.
REAR SEAT BELT RETRACTORS DO NOT ADEQUATELY TENSION SEATBELTS.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while getting a routine oil change shortly after, the warning light for a throttle box illuminated. The contact stated that in the past after getting the same oil change, the warning light for the tire pressure sensor light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who determined no failure indicated for the tires. The contact stated that every time they brought the vehicle in for inspection no failure was indicated despite the contact filling the tires with air. The contact stated that while driving on the freeway when they were attempting to drive the speed limit of 65 mph their vehicle could not accelerate beyond being between 45-50 mph. The contact was able to pull off the ramp where the vehicle eventually came to a seize. The vehicle began to smoke on the front end. The vehicle never turned into a full-blown fire however it did remain extremely overheated for a total of about 2 days. There were no injuries or medical attention needed. There was no police report. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed that the head gasket had blown and the engine had melted. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.
HEADREST POP OPEN OUT OF NOWHERE AFTER I PARKED THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY AND WAS PREPARING TO TAKE OFF MY SEATBELT.
IT WAS FREEZING OUTSIDE, BUT NOT ICY ON THE ROAD. WELL LIT. I WAS NOT IN A RUSH. CAR WAS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE UP UNTIL THEN. I WAS GOING ~10 PMH DOWN THE INSIDE PARKING GARAGE DRIVEWAY. HAD TO PULL TO THE RIGHT DUE TO CAR COMING UP PARTIALLY ON MY SIDE. SCRATCHED THE SIDE WALL. ONCE THAT HAPPENED, THE CAR ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL. BRAKES DIDN'T REACT. ONLY WAY TO STOP THE CAR BEFORE RUNNING INTO OTHER CARS OR EVEN PEOPLE WAS STEERING THE CAR INTO THE WALL FRONT ON. THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED, THE WALL BROKE DOWN. THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T GO OFF, THE BRAKE ASSISTANCE SYSTEM DIDN'T KICK IN. FORTUNATELY NOBODY WAS HURT, BUT COULD HAVE EASILY HAPPENED. THE CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS. I WAS NOT UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS AND DON'T HAVE A SEIZURE DISORDER. WITNESSED EVERY SINGLE SECOND FULLY AWAKE AND AWARE.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that she heard a loud vibrating noise coming from the engine compartment while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed with needing the camshaft arms and gaskets replaced however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000. Consumer was informed by the mechanic 3.6 liter engine in this vehicle is experiencing a common problem in this make /model.
DURING REGULAR USE OF VEHICLE, HEADLAMP CASINGS APPEAR TO BE MELTING. VEHICLE HAS JUST UNDER 120K MILES.
A BIG WARNING COMES ON MY DASH BOARD SAYING BRAKES AND AUTOMATICALLY STOPS WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS HAPPENED TWICE. IT IS SCAREY BECAUSE THERE IS NO REASON I NEED TO BRAKE NOR CAN I CONTROL THAT THE CAR IS FORCE BRAKING IT SELF. I HAVE READ 2 OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND BOTH HAVE ENDED IN CRASHING THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE COMPUTER FORCE BRAKING ITSELF IN THE SUV.
THE CAR REFUSES TO START. IT WON'T TURNOVER. IT IS COMPLETELY SILENT. THE PUSH START WILL NOT WORK.
DRIVERS SIDE HEADREST DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON WHILE DRIVING.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY MY ENGINE SHUT ITSELF OFF AND WENT INTO NEUTRAL. I NOTICED A LOT OF SMOKE/STEAM COMING OUT OF THE BACK OF MY CAR. I PULLED MY CAR OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND STOPPED IT. I OPENED THE HOOD TO SEE IF I COULD SEE WHAT THE ISSUE WAS BUT WAS UNABLE TO IMMEDIATELY SEE THE ISSUE. THERE WAS A LOT OF STEAM/SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE HOOD. I GOT BACK IN MY CAR TO CALL AAA FOR A TOW AND WHILE ON THE PHONE I NOTICED AN ORANGE GLOW FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I IMMEDIATELY HUNG UP AND CALLED 911. THEN GOT ALL MY BELONGINGS OUT OF THE CAR AND AT THIS POINT THE FIRE HAD ENGULFED THE FRONT OF THE CAR. CHP AND FIRE DEPARTMENT SHOWED UP. THE CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS.*DT*JB
