There are 19 owner-reported air bags & restraints complaints for the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokeein NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
The front seatbelt latch on my 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not latch or secure properly. The buckle fails to engage when inserted, leaving the seatbelt unusable. This creates a serious safety hazard because the occupant cannot be restrained while the vehicle is in motion. The issue occurs every time the seatbelt is used and has not resolved on its own.
Seat belt does not retract. Nearly unusable.
ALL 5 seatbelt retractors have gone out at the same time estimated $2000, the dealership put in a claim to Crysler Customer Care that stated they would cover 40% and I would have the remaining 60% since the vehicle has 53,000 miles and is out of warranty. Although, even IF it were still in warranty that part IS NOT covered. This is a safety issue and the manufacture should be responsible.
As I was sitting in the back part of my jeep in the hatch out of nowhere the car shook and a large bang went off. I searched the car to find out what happened I couldn't figure it out. later when I got home my son noticed that the driver side headrest looked funny. I checked it myself and saw that the driver side air bag on the headrest deployed itself. My car has not been in any accident and the air bag deployed on its own. When I took my car for a routine oil change. I was informed that it's not jeeps responsibility and I didn't have any warranty coverage.
I was driving my Jeep on Sunday, [XXX] and the service airbag system light kept coming on periodically. When I took it to Szott dealership Service center in White Lake, Michigan. On my drive to the dealership the light never popped on. The service guy said it looked like it was the wiring under the driver's seat. I had to wait for a diagnostic tech to check it out. The tech confirmed it was a wiring issue under the driver's seat. The dealership said it is NOT covered under my extended warranty and it will cost $679 to repair. I realize I need to repair for safety issues. My question is an airbag is important safety feature and Jeep should be responsible and stand behind their product to ensure safety for their customers so, why should I have to pay out of pocket to repair a safety feature that should be functioning properly? I store my jeep in a garage. I have not been in an accident or in a flood...so why am I liable when it is a defective part or wiring? The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the air bag warning light erroneously illuminated and remained illuminated for more than two weeks. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact stated that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
With just under 40,000 miles on the vehicle, first the front passenger seat belt started to fail to retract, then a few months later the front driver side seat belt began to do the same thing. The dealer says they are out of warranty so it's my dime to fix. I wouldn't be concerned except that this is a huge safety issue, if the belt doesn't retract correctly when put on, it would fail to hold me or my passenger in place during an accident.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the driver's side and the passenger’s side front seat belts were no longer retracting. The contact stated that the seat belts often got caught in the door while exiting the vehicle. The contact had been working with a dealer for two years to have the seat belts replaced. The contact stated that the dealer had finally replaced the driver’s and passenger’s side front seat belts. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V716000 (Seat Belts), and the contact was informed by the manufacturer and the dealer that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.
Service air bag system warning appeared out of the blue. Warning turns on and off randomly. Assuming a faulty sensor. Have not been able to get in for service yet.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? -The rear driver side seatbelt does not click in and does not function. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - The rear passenger is unable to buckle. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -No Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? -No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? -No I recently purchased this vehicle on December 10th, 2022. During the test drive the salesman sat in that seat. He did not bring to my attention during the test drive. The following day I realized this issue and the dealer had stated that since I did not mention it during my visit that they would not fix it for free. This was at a dealer in Illinois, I am now back in Iowa and would like the get it fixed here. The car seems to be in a rear end accident, although the dealer did not specifically disclose where it was in an accident.
A few days after purchasing this car we noticed the front seatbelts weren’t retracting after unbuckling. After pulling out the seatbelt shoulder strap and inspecting it, it was cut and frayed, which was catching and not allowing it to retract. The front driver and passenger shoulder belts were both like this. We took the vehicle into a jeep dealer and had it checked out and had the seatbelts replaced for obvious safety reasons. The gentleman who worked on our Jeep said he had seen this on other Chrysler models as well.
Driver’s side airbag does not retract
Airbag did not deploy
Our Jeep just hit 9k miles and the Airbag Service Light has turned on and it gives a warning of it each time you start the vehicle.
MY VEHICLE (2019 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE) WAS ONLY 1 1/2 YEARS OLD AND WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45MPH WHEN I WAS STRUCK BY 4-DOOR CHEVY SILVERADO (DRIVER-TO-DRIVER COLLISION) THAT WAS ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN ON GREEN, SO ONLY GOING ABOUT 3-5MPH. THE TRUCK'S STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG DEPLOYED, BUT NONE OF MY JEEP'S DID. MY JEEP'S ENTIRE FRONT AREA WAS CRUSHED, AND DRIVER'S SIDE EXPERIENCED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE AS WELL; RESULTING IN MY JEEP BEING TOTALED. EVERYONE AT THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT WAS SHOCKED THAT MY JEEP'S AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. AS A RESULT, I BUSTED MY HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL, AND 6 WEEKS LATER, I STILL HAVE A KNOT ON MY FOREHEAD. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A GRAND CHEROKEE AGAIN! I AM COMPLETELY AMAZED THERE ARE ZERO RECALLS!
THIS VEHICLE WAS HIT BY A SILVERADO EXTENDED CAB PICKUP AT A 4 WAY STOP TWICE BY THE SAME TRUCK. THE IMPACT RESULTED IN THE JEEP BEING A TOTAL LOSS WITH EXTENSIVE DAMAGE FRONT AND REAR. THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED RESULTING IN INJURIES TO BOTH THE DRIVER AND MORE SERIOUS THE PASSENGER. THE JEEP WAS ACCELERATING FROM A DEAD STOP TO CROSS THE INTERSECTION. THE TRUCK DID NOT STOP OR SLOW DOWN AT THE INTERSECTION.*DT*JB
THIS IS IN REFERENCE TO AN ACCIDENT ON 1/22/20 AT APPROXIMATELY 5:45PM NEAR PITTSBURGH, PA. I HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE 'DRIVER SIDE' LOWER OR 'FOOT' AIR BAG, AS IT DID NOT 'UNDEPLOY' OR IF IT DID, IT IS VERY BULKY AFTER DOING SO AND BECAUSE OF THAT, IT CAUSED, IN MY OPINION, ADDITIONAL AND UNNECESSARY DAMAGES TO THE OTHER PARTY'S INVOLVED. SITUATION - IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE ACCIDENT, I NEEDED TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND COULD NOT DO SO BECAUSE THE AIRBAG WAS IN THE WAY OF MY FEET REACHING AND PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN DRIVE AND IDLING WHICH, CONSEQUENTLY LED TO ME PUSHING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME FURTHER THAN THE ACTUAL SPOT OF THE ACCIDENT AND 'POSSIBLY' INTO THE VEHICLES IN FRONT OF HER. I LITERALLY HAD TO PUT THE JEEP IN 'NEUTRAL' AND THEN PRESS THE 'POWER OR ON/OFF' BUTTON TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND TO KEEP IT FROM CONTINUING TO PUSH HER CAR. NOW ... DO I BELIEVE YOUR VEHICLE SAVED MY LIFE ABSOLUTELY! HOWEVER, THIS AIRBAG ISSUE SEEMS TO BE SOMETHING THAT COULD HAVE TURNED OUT HORRIBLY WRONG HAD I NOT KNOWN HOW TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF WITHOUT USING THE BREAK. IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN UNCONSCIOUS, THEN IN THEORY I L COULD HAVE PUSHED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME UNTIL WHAT I WAS PUSHING VIA IDLING WAS TOO MUCH WEIGHT FOR THE LOW RPM'S OF IDLING TO BEAR. ADDITIONAL DETAILS - WHILE EXITING THE HIGHWAY, BUT STILL ON THE EXIT RAMP, I WAS INVOLVED IN A MULTI CAR (4) ACCIDENT THAT I BELIEVE (AS I DID OVERHEAR CONVERSATIONS FROM THE OTHER DRIVERS BUT BEING THE 4TH VEHICLE OUT OF 4, I DID NOT EYEWITNESS THIS MYSELF) MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY AN AGGRESSIVE DRIVER WHO CUT OFF ANOTHER DRIVER IN FRONT OF THE 4 OF US AND THIS ACTION INEVITABLY CAUSED THE 4 OF US BEHIND HIM TO SLAM ON OUR BRAKES. UNFORTUNATELY, THINGS HAPPENED SO QUICKLY THAT I WAS NOT ABLE TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME.
VEHICLE STRUCT POLE ON PASSENGER SIDE, AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, AND SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE ENTIRE PASSENGER SIDE INCLUDING DOOR INTRUSION INTO THE CABIN. BOTH MAJOR SUPPORT PILLARS WERE BENT AND SIDE WINDOWS SHATTERED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT RECOGNIZE WHEN THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS OCCUPIED. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FIVE STAR CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF MACON (478-287-1907, LOCATED AT 3068 RIVERSIDE DR, MACON, GA 31210) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS KEPT FOR A WEEK. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ASSIGNED A CASE MANAGER. THE MANUFACTURER REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 350.
